i just want to say, as a blanket statement... if i ever talk about not liking a tv or film adaptation of a book where they diversified the characters by casting actors of color rather than sticking to mostly or all white casts... i do NOT have a problem with that choice, or with the actors. i'm all for that! the actors are doing a great job. i have a problem with writing choices

the shadowhunters show is so wild to me for so many reasons but ones of them is that i am so baffled by how they manage to hit most of the major story beats of the books and yet mess them up SO BADLY?

here's every major fuck up i can remember in chronological order because i feel like ranting

they go to the silent city but instead of finding out about magnus's block on her memory, they find out that valentine is clary's father through a conversation that she overheard between luke and her mother

simon is kidnapped by the vampires on purpose instead of accidentally because they want the mortal cup from clary since it can control demons, which is the stupidest thing ever because raziel gave jonathan shadowhunter the cup so that he could make more shadowhunters with the objective to kill demons, not control them

oh and they're not allowed to use the cup to make more shadowhunters, so mundanes can't ascend (do none of them have the sight?) and the cup has no purpose other than to sit there and look pretty

all of them were in on rescuing simon, not just jace and clary and the wolves are not there at all, but for some reason camille is and has a weirdly sexual relationship with simon

they go see magnus to get clary's memories back and they end up having to give up their memories like they did with azazel except it's to this random demon who magnus gave clary's memories to for the plot but then clary kills the demon so she never gets her memories back

instead of getting the cup from madame dorothea, they sneak into a police station to get it while luke is being questioned for MURDER

simon is turned into a vampire except it turns into this whole uprising where everyone turns against camille and it's this whole moral dilemma for clary

they still find out clary and jace are related while at renwick's except the scene is just very different and valentine had been glamoured to look like michael wayland this whole time because there's a shapeshifting rune now!

jace goes with valentine at the end of season one

they wake up jocelyn at the end of season one and she fully believes that jace is her child and tries to kill him

also jace finds out that he "has demon blood" at the very beginning of season two while on valentine's ship from valentine himself

he is imprisoned in the silent city and the attack on the silent brothers happens while he is there, but he is also put on trial and for some reason it is more about his feelings for clary than about his actual "crimes" (which was just being basically forced onto a ship with valentine in order to save his friends from being murdered)

instead of imogen herondale distrusting jace it's a weird british dude, also maryse just straight up equates jace to a cancer that they need to kill and didn't just tell him to leave the institute in an attempt to protect him from the inquisitor like she did in the books

the weird british dude gives izzy yin fen, except its made from vampire venom and not demon poison in what is the worst storyline to ever exist and is basically just shadow world heroin (not a tmi major plot point but i literally cannot not mention how much i fucking hate this storyline)

izzy and clary visit the iron sisters to find out why valentine wanted the mortal sword where they find out that if an angelic being and a bolt of lightning touch it then it will be able to emit a heavenly light that can kill anyone with demon blood (raziel really had no faith in these guys)

they actually imprison valentine and are just using a rune to torture him (idk why they had a rune to torture people considering that all of their runes were given to them by raziel and i don't know if he wanted them torturing each other? also i looked up the rune on the shadowhunter books wiki and it was the super powerful healing rune that clary used on jace in cohf - kind of the opposite of torture)

clary and jace find out they're not related halfway through season two (not entirely objecting to this but it did mean a full climon relationship)

they still go to the seelie court, except it's just simon, jace, and clary and the seelie queen makes jace and clary kiss in order to show simon that shadowhunters always choose "their own kind" over anyone else because she's obsessed with him and his daylighterness

sebastian still attacks max because max tracked him with a single hair from the bottom of the baby jc box except max survives (not really objecting to this either because max was so sweet but like what was the reason for changing this!!)

ok, time to go into the jace + sebastian fight - instead of jace goading sebastian into a fight by making him realize that valentine will find out that sebastian just killed him in cold blood and didn't give him a fair fight and then hate him for it, not by just making him really angry - jace literally passes out several times on the way to where they fight and sebastian just keeps dragging him along. this is just a little change that irks me so much because it shows a lot about their character imo. here, they have a fight on a random bridge where we get the line "care to find out who's the best jc once and for all" which should be considered a crime against humanity. izzy does intervene but she does not get to cut off sebastian's hand and then jace stabs sebastian in the special spot on the back and kicks him into the river, sebastian somehow survives long enough to float all the way to a beach and summon lilith

jace does get possessed by lilith except he's turning into a weird looking demon who possesses mundanes to kill their loved ones and serve lilith and not whatever the fuck was going on with him in cofa that was definitely not turning into a demon and possessing other people

jem is american

instead of maureen being maureen she's another person their age named heidi who forces simon to drink his sister's blood which leads to his mom throwing him out like she does in the books, and then heidi proceeds to try to take over the entire downworld until maia kills her in the same way she kills maureen in the books

clary gets the twinning rune instead of jace and instead of it being an instant thing clary is just slowly becoming more like sebastian except she's not and she still has free will which jace didn't really have in cols - they're more like equals instead of one having power over the other like in the books

instead of raziel giving them glorious because simon was like "if you don't i'll just use my mark of cain to annoy you for all of eternity" izzy has a woman in stem moment and remakes the sword herself with particles of glorious that she extracted from a serum that the weird british dude was using to turn downworlder prisoners into mundanes again in an illegal project

instead of having the two family swords made by wayland the smith, they have one sword that has the ability to open rifts into hell and release demons and getting that sword is sebastians goal for the season instead of making the endarkened

sebastian does have a relationship with the seelie queen but then he kills her

izzy gets the heavenly fire instead of jace even though clary was the one who was stabbed with glorious because izzy gets hit by shrapnel from the sword exploding

they still go to edom but it's to save magnus from lilith because she wants to start a war with him so she can go to earth and he's there because he's holding closed the rift the sebastian opened with the family sword

clary loses her memories instead of simon because making her own runes went against the will of the angels - especially the one that tied shadowhunters to downworlders even though that was literally what won the mortal war in the books

magnus and alec still temporarily break up except it's not because alec was trying to remove magnus's immortality (although they did have issues with that earlier in the season) it's so asmodeus will give magnus his magic back after taking it in exchange for giving magnus the power to free jace from lilith's possession

anyways that's everything i can remember - there's probably more

Hm: Michael Wayland

He’s up here because I don’t care about him one bit, I’m sorry. I forgot he existed, lol. To me, his character just kinda exists for Robert to have some kind of internal conflict.

1. Maryse Lightwood

Is this kinda unexpected?? Idk. I remember rereading TMI and just thinking about how cool and great she is. I think her and Luke have the most interesting turn around when it comes to the circle! I cannot wait to be getting my dearest Maryse crumbs when we get Claces BIB story.

2. Luke/Amatis Graymark

The Graymark siblings are sharing a spot here because I actually really love them both. Now obviously Amatis doesn’t really get all that much page time, but I’ve always really loved her- she stood out to me when I first read city of glass. And LUKE, him in the first three books was always such a delight!! Him and Clary’s fatherism deserved to be shown more. I wish he still had a more prominent role in the last three books loke he did the first three!!

3. Celine Montclaire

SHE is probably one of the most interesting circle members, I could talk about her forever and forever and forever and forever. The way the constant loneliness and helplessness she felt throughout her child impacted her relationships and also her actions is really interesting. All she wanted was to fr just be happy. Her story in GOTSM is a blessing.

4. Jocelyn Fairchild

Jocelyn should probably be higher but I never connected with her as much as I maybe wanted to. HOWEVER; I would go down defending her, she’s so mischaracterised 99% of the time. She’s actually a pretty cool character, she’s always had a lot of scenes that stood out to me- and I could talk about her relationship with Sebastian forever!

5. Robert Lightwood

I have never really been connected to Robert as a character, and the first couple of times I reread tmi I just didn’t really care for him. I HAVE however changed my opinion a bit, I find him an interesting character. And I think the way his character is TFTSA and beyond is pretty cool- I have however thought killing him was a bit stupid.

6. Stephen Herondale

I actually don’t really share the common opinion on Stephen that he’s the worst person ever. I feel like people always only look at him as acting on his own thoughts and feelings when he too was manipulated by Valentine- but that’s a rant for another day. Stephen’s OKAY, he’s just one those character where I don’t think we really get anything from him. For the most part he’s always just a side character.

7. Valentine Morgenstern

It’s actually crazy how he lowkey changed the shadowhunter world. Valentine, while he’s definitely not a better villain than Sebastian- he’s definitely a good villain. The scene in COA where he literally goes to Simon’s house and kidnaps him always makes me laugh!! Like oh… okay! He’s definitely an interesting character, and I find the way he was able to manipulate everyine fascinating, like wow… every shadowhunter is easy to manipulate.

8. Hodge Starkweather

Hodge is here because while I think his character concept is interesting, I don’t think his character ever did anything that genuinely stood out to me, personally. I could talk about how I think he’s a really interesting case of how classism works in the shadowhunter community and how I think his punishment affected him: but yeah he’s just a guy to me in all honestly !!

Mark and Julian’s relationship makes me so insane the first time I read the books I don’t remember feeling that way about it? I think I payed most attention to Ty&Livvy + Ty&Jules + Livvy&Jules out of the dynamics so those stuck out most in my memory there are also shifts in what’s focused on most in LM vs Qoaad so that’s part of it but like… Mark and Julian is so funny and compelling to me because they do not understand each other at all! No scene encompasses how much Mark does not get Julian like the scene post whipping where Jules goes on that speal about how he wouldn’t want to live if Emma died and knows it’s not healthy but he might do what Malcolm did for Annabel if she did did and Mark is like “no my baby brother you are too good a person you would never ever do something like that ik you don’t mean any of it” had me in stitches ajdjdj as a reader who’s been in Jules’ head and knows that yes, he absolutely did mean all of that (codependent king love him for that <3). And then in LoS there’s a scene where Mark is tasked with watching the kids and minor things go wrong (well I mean someone does get injured. But for Shadowhunters that is still p minor) so he’s like “oh my god Julian would Never have let things go wrong like this he would know exactly what to do” bestie no… he wouldn’t have known better he would have just faked it till he made it and never let anyone know he was struggling to begin with lolz. That’s not even getting into the Emma thing which is just a whole cycle of them projecting their own feelings onto the other person Mark assuming Julian loves her platonically because he does and Julian assuming Mark’s would be in love with her because that’s normal existence to him usually I don’t care for set ups like that but this one is fun somehow.. and that scene after Emma and Jules argued and then fucked in that cottage so Jules comes back in a good mood and notices that Mark is constantly on edge around him because he’s accidentally been so snippy/cunty to him since the fake dating started and he’s like “oh have I been that bad?” And then tells Mark he’ll be cool now because he knows they weren’t really together Andjjd. also they’re both sooo bad at being teenage boys in completely different ways so the juxtaposition of their traumas is fun “I don’t understand how to be a teenage boy because I’ve been raised to be a “feral” (only using the word because they use it to describe Mark so many times in the books) creature and feel trapped by being among humans” vs “I don’t understand how to deal with teenage boy emotions or think through that aspect of life so I repress all of them while clinging to my responsible adult mask + using my political strategist wiles to get through life”. Idk why but I just really like their whole thing…

Things about shadowhunters mortal instruments cassandra clare

Big Name Fan in the harry potter fandom for a very long time, and notoriously unpleasant. huge bully. Tried to get a girl kicked out of university over fandom drama. This is all old drama but she just buried it when she got successful rather than ever own up to it

Frequently plagiarised for her fics. suspicions have long been if her books feature any stolen ideas, but she 100% did plagiarise for her fics a number of times

my main fan community for a very very long time has been Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve and this is where the true personal beef lies. Mortal Engines is similar in name to Mortal Instruments (oh the mix ups). Mortal Engines book 3 is named Infernal Devices (just like her prequel series huh). The villain of the first Mortal Engines book is a man named Valentine who winds up being the secret father of the red-haired protagonist. I don't like how deeply into incest she is. I'm not crazy for the fact 'Mortal Instruments' was first the name of her ron/ginny fanfic. I find it weird she made her whole series about faux maybe-maybe-not sibling incest because she's finds it hot.

it was one of those fandoms you saw a lot which was pretty exclusively made of people into the one gay ship. I also remember a lot of fighting over shipping an aroace character and ignoring his identity. this wasn't very endearing to observe

the shadowhunter logo looks a lot like the odal rune, which is used by white supremacists. this is a coincidence, but once as a teen at my job I met a grown man with a tattoo I thought was the shadowhunter logo and was like 'weird. bad taste.' and then many years later was like 'wait a fucking second'. obviously if you know them, it's different. but I don't like making that kinda mistake

Malec meet pre-canon divergent

(considering tv-show canon only, as I don't know much about the books) I personally found it a little weird that Alec and his siblings had to be briefed about the High Warlock of their territory, by Hodge. Shouldn't Alec, as the acting head, have been aware of the most prominent downworld leaders in the city his institute is in? Wouldn't Magnus have been in the institute before, for ward maintenance or things like that? Wouldn't they have had to call him to close rifts that demons were popping out of? (Not like those kinds of things were ever shown or discussed in the show, but then again, the show was very stingy where details and backgrounds were concerned.) Anyway, I would like to propose a series re-write, where Alec and Magnus get to know each other pre-canon, and Magnus has the chance to bolster Alec's self-worth and confidence a little. And then exploring what effect this might have, as Alec wouldn't be such a pushover where his siblings are concerned. (I actually just really like re-writes of given plots that explore changes to said given plot, so that personal guilty pleasure might heavily play into this prompt…. 😉 )

possible scene:

They could meet on site for rift closure, and Alec is laying down a plan of attack, because some demons have already gathered. And then Jace is trying to propose another plan (that's less tactical than Alec's was and more of a 'run in head first' kinda deal). And Alec is not confident about his own plan versus Jace's, and he is about to give in, but then Magnus is like: "I agree with the pretty boy." And Jace smirks and goes: "See, the high warlock thinks it will work." And then Magnus goes: "Oh no, I was talking about his plan. Yours sucks."

I think, if a relationship between them (platonic heading for romantic) exists for some time, Magnus would probably let slip about Maryse and Robert having been in the circle. Not in a malicious way. I think Magnus assumed that Alec knew. So maybe one day Magnus offers to check over the wards, and Alec accepts and wonders loudly about why his parents didn’t commission check ups for two years,

and Magnus just "Well, they have tried to limit their business with downworlders as much as possible. Which isn't surprising, seeing as many of us feel that they haven't been sufficiently punished for their crimes while they were in the circle. But it's not as if I would have refused the job. I just see them having lots of little conversations that help build Alec up, while not just being simple compliments. Like, when Alec doubts his leadership qualities and asks Magnus about his opinion, as Magnus has fought in a few wars and known a few figureheads. "I believe being a good leader comes down to knowing and trusting in yourself." "Shouldn’t that be 'knowing and trusting my people'?" "That, too. But it's important to know your own strengths and weaknesses. For example, I'm one of the most powerful warlocks out there with a deep and varied understanding of my craft, and I look dashing in silk. I have been following you for some years now. Wow can't believe this.

But I am in the process of creating a podcast which discusses art, books and movies.

In one of the episodes, we are talking about books being made into movies and one of the segments is fanfiction into movies. I wanted to gather some first hand opinions of fic writers and their thoughts on this.

Why is it always hetro-fics being made into movies and would a fanfic writer be open to it.

And why the choice of stories bad?

Have you watched a fanfic movie, which was good and that you felt like it did justice to the writers.

I think that fanfics being turned into movies are okay, as long as they change the source material until it can't be linked to the original inspiration. I'm thinking of say, 50 Shades. Like, if you know it's Twilight fanfiction, then you relate it back to Twilight. That being said, it can stand on it's own without you saying every two seconds 'Oh! That's Edward!' Same for things like Shadowhunters. I know it's Harry Potter fan fiction because I'm an old dweeb on the internet, but it doesn't define the story itself because there is enough original ideas to keep it unique.

Please note, I'm not endorsing 50 Shades or Shadowhunters as good. Just relating.

I think you could also say like The Chronicles of Narnia is kinda fanfiction. It's like the retelling of Jesus with Aslan, but you don't need to be close to the original source or inspiration to enjoy the stories. You can appreciate them as separate.

We all know why it's hetero fics that keep getting turned.

I will say though, as I'm sure you're relating this to the new movie coming, making a fanfic about an actual living person into a movie is just - absurd. Like, how can this not be copyrighted? It's one thing to self insert fantasize on your little corner of the internet. It's another to create a movie that is so closely related to not only one person - but five. I think we all are upset about the use of Harry as a prop, but he's not the only one being referenced in this movie. I do wonder how the other boys feel being basically back up dancers to someone's wattpad fantasy about their friend.

October 2024 books 🧡

I started the month by finally finishing my entire read of the Shadowhunters Chronicles. And let me tell you, even though I did enjoy it, I’m glad that it’s over. And I’m not touching those books again until the next (and final) series comes out… probably.

This girlie is Percy Jackson obsessed so of course I read the newest book as soon as I could and I fucking loved it. Although I do have a couple of questions about how the timeline works here because it’s not making any sense.

I bought Not For the Faint of Heart a while ago, because I loved Lex Croucher’s first book (Gwen and Art are not in Love, if you want an amazing queer read, read that one!) that being said, this book was… not as good as I hoped it would be, not as bad as it could have been. I hated some of it, loved some of it and was quite indifferent about the rest. Over all not a bad book, but I enjoyed Lex Croucher’s first novel a LOT more.

As many of us did, I also watched Heartstopper season 3 this month (so many tears) and it made me decide to finally give Alice Oseman’s books a go. Since I read pretty fast and I usually finish graphic novels in like half an hour, I thought I’d try to novels first instead of the Heartstopper graphics and let me tell you, I’m glad I did because these books are awesome.

I related to Tori on so many levels… which is maybe not a good thing. Oh well. Solitaire definitely felt like some kind of fever dream at times, but I’m appreciating it for what it is.

Now, Radio Silence was an actual amazing book. I loved every moment of it. Also if Carol Last has no haters, I am dead, because what the actual fuck was that?

Anywho… I greatly enjoyed all of these books but I need something different now, so I’ll be reading my two other Alice Oseman books later in November (I think) and switch genres for a while until then.

They’re in the Waylay sharing a Moscow Mule and Old Fashioned and you cannot convince me otherwise (this is a fanfic I’m planning on writing too).

Fun Activity You’d Really Like to Get Into: Book binding!! I think it’d be so neat. I’ve got this hand bound journal that I sketch in and it’s one of my favorite things. I’d love to learn leather work and how to make your own paper! This just combines those two in a perfect way.

Last Video Game: Played? Stardew Valley! I will marry Harvey or Sam come hell or high water. Now, watched about eight hours of lore videos over? Faith: The Unholy Trinity. Horrifying game. Delicious lore. SO good. Father Garcia, my beloved <3.

Last Comic/Graphic Novel: Truthfully, it was the garbage, totally inaccurate comic called “Samson: Judge of Israel” for my Old Testament class but I don’t wanna talk about that unless you want me to rant about modern Christians reading Jesus into the Old Testament where He shouldn’t be read into (*rasa frasas in Catholic Religion Major*). I will say that the art was stunning in it though. The last one I read out of choice was Blue Exorcist! I don’t think I’m caught up with it anymore but that is my favorite manga of all time! 1. Of the fics you’ve written, which is your favourite and why?

Honestly the fic I'm the proudest of is not an RWRB fic, it's a shadowhunters/malec song fic: Achilles Come Down

My best works and best creativities come from me projecting myself and putting my actual feelings into the fic. What happened with this fic is I had a really shitty day, went out for a run while listening to Achilles Come Down, thought of the fic and proceeded to dump all my feelings, spend the next entire day writing the fic, finishing it within 24 hours. Till this day I think it's the best thing I've ever written, ever.

But for RWRB, I'm gonna say I’d Hang the Moon for It to Shine on Him Sleeping. It's also partially me venting through both Henry and Catherine, but there's also this part where I wish we could see more or less what I wrote on screen, hopefully in the sequel. Writing in Catherine's pov was really fun. I'm really proud of that one.

2. Which scene was your favourite to write in I Need Comfort (But I Hate Being Comfortable)?

Oh, this was pure vent and very raw. I was going through a depressive episode those couple of days, so I kind of wrote down what I did for Henry and copied a couple of lines from my own diary for Henry's inner monologue. So my favourite scene to write was actually taking what's my own feelings and reframing it to fit Henry's narrative. So this part:

It’s what he always wanted, he’s what he thought he would never get. The constant fear and despair of hiding his sexuality for his entire life, the thought of pretending to be straight and getting married to some noblewoman, the feeling that he doesn’t fit in the space, the dread that sticks to his skin and dyes his blood a dull shade of black like some toxic, viscous tar, that’s truly gone for good.

I'm kind of happy something so negative inside me can be translated into some sort of creative outlet.

8. Which scenes did you cut, and which were added in Can I Have This Dance?

I'm not sure if this counts as cutting because I didn't actually write it, but I considered putting the Paris scene for the first section instead of DNC night, but 1, I ended up deciding I wanted actual dancing, in the traditional sense of the word 2, I wasn't really ready to write smut at the time and felt like Paris was too heavy for me just to stuff it as a quarter of a fic. So I wrote DNC instead.

As for what scene was added, Alex and Henry dancing to their playlist was a later decision. I initially kind of just thought of them slow dancing in the kitchen or something, but then I remembered that playlist exist and added it in.

top 10 atrocious shtv plotline

let me preface by saying i do not hate shadowhunters. it camp demon fighting hot people in leather with not enough lighting and candles as regular guest stars. this list is my personal opinion, a little something something rage filled silly little rants of my favorite show and its clown moment. picture this as the inner monologue of the lead in an indie romcom who speaks in metaphors and has a letterbox account. so sit back, grab your set and stele because you will need so much iratze for your sanity.

10. magnus lost his magic

magnus is magnificent in everything, so that is why this plotline disappointed me. it has so much potential and they end up doing the bare minimum. there's no way magnus fricking bane has no one to rely on when he lost his magic besides alec. no fricking way. we should have gotten magnus to work out alec's deal with asmodeus by himself. i'm also of the opinion that magnus should be the one to figure out a way to get his magic back (there are lots of good fics exploring this, i recommend you check it out) it end up in this position cause overall it a good and interesting premise and magnus outsmarting his father and using his portal (something that magnus invented) to defeat him is a good conclusion

9. heidi took over dumort and planned to dominate the shadoworld

i mean this happened in the book, but it was given way way more screen time than necessary in the show. please dont tell me a newly born vampire is suddenly a master manipulator and leader and makes every vampire bend to her will. you're trying to be serious not comedy shtv. and how about we give all of heidi screen time to flesh out clary and magnus plotline in S3B more?? or idk, give the lightwood trio A PLOTLINE this season besides being the supporting partner

8. jordan redemption arc

he's an abuser. he's an abuser. HE IS AN ABUSER. we don't need him sobbing and crying and then ‘dying’ in front of maia. i loathe how for a second i thought they gonna make maia go back together with jordan again. the only good thing come out of it is maia getting somewhat closure, and i used that term loosely

7. the owl

jace spent S3A being mind controlled by lilith, struggling, begging to be killed, being mind control again, then free. he doesn't have a single moment after all that bullshit to process because oh we need the plot to move along and another fresh trauma has arrived at the jace station. and oh remember the soul sword thing??? when there's an attempt to write the payoff of jace unintentionally killing a bunch of people? i dont know about you but the show writers sure do not. the rules and influence of lilith over jace is so confusing it is ridiculously hilarious

6. alec and jace's parabatai bond

i've already done a recap of all the wonderful moments of jace parabatai career so i will keep this really simple. picture the parabatai bond as group final assessment. alec is pulling all-nighter, groupchat urging to finish tasks on time, one on one meetings with professor for feedback, two hours finalizing and fixing the final product. jace is "why do i have to do so much" and submitting work late two hours that don't pass the plagiarize check

5. team evil (evil clary + S3B jonathan)

i would like to remind you she turns fully evil in episode 18 and is cured of it in episode 20. they build this evil plotline up through clary burning her hand, snapping at simon once and losing it at aline (who btw i believe is justified in her rage how many people sebastian/jonathan/ginger incest bread have killed) clary turning evil means she now will sexily whisper her line, wear tighter/revealing dress and stare at people with smoldering eyes. because of course, evil female characters are like that. i also need writers for that clace scene in the club when jace's on seelie drug to answer for their crime against my sanity

jonathan S3B is bad. and not even the fun kind. when you compare this character to the one in S2B, he got clear on every possible aspect i almost shed a tear. he, like evil clary, has so much potential. but the way the writing goes makes him just hilariously pathetic. yes i am in fact referring to him yelling 'YOU WILL NEVER LOVE ME' at clary and then flying away in his devil cosplay

4. merlion getting taken to the silent brothers

alec is shit for blindly following the clave's order, jace betrays his parabatai and along with izzy and clary conducts a stupid plan that can create an all-out war and involves two of the downworlder leaders in all that. also, magnus steal alec stele aka the acting head stele…because bad decision is infectious in this episode. considering how serious they’re trying to make the political aspect of the show to be, the fact that this exists. literally insane. this whole plotline is to highlight how clary is the hero who stands up for justice and morals and all of that when she the one contributing the least. she just stands around lets everyone do stuff for her and they're trying to convince us she's the hero. then she and jace fuck off to another dimension after roping people into their mess because that is what a good hero does.

3. alec's mental health

alec try to jump off that balcony and the only person they show having any concern over it is magnus in the next episode. oh no no, not even in that lightwood family talk in the same episode of the balcony thing, with you know, his mom and his parabatai, not a word. and the only one who says anything related to it is clary of all people. im convinced the whole alec killing off jocelyn is for alec to feel guilty and then ease him into a friendship with clary because this is no way to handle this type of story there is no way. and it is not like they say oh well, here's the end of this. because they include shots of alec pinching his hands at that hospital scene. what was the reason? has alec not had enough on his plate already? friendly reminder, iris's spell at that party caused people to project their insecurities and everyone was fighting each other. and who does alec blame? who does he fight? who he thinks is worthless of living and no one will miss? himself. do they drop this storyline faster than clace romance? yes!

2. clace

ah, instant love that makes no sense because we are supposed to believe it is the way it is. the writers keep telling us there is nothing compared to their love but doesn't show us SHIT when it comes to that. don't believe me? oh, okay, the number of dates that they have before crusty lord of the lifetime valentine morgenshit breaks the fake sibling news is that time when jace stands and watches clary get encanto and tough inappropriately by a vampire and their rendezvous with fake dad. then in S2A they mostly interact when clary is in trouble and needs jace help. clary dates the first person she knows already has feeling for her, jace goes around very around. they don't bond or try to talk or interact besides jace constantly looking sulkily at clary and simon. then 2x14 it all reveals she loves jace she desires jace no one for her but jace. and i totally forgot jace's confession via the soul sword about loving clary, not the way you would love a sister and all that. their first date as an again couple is 3x02…the love confession is ridiculous because he's saying all these things despite us literally never seeing that on screen. they bonk when clary still links with her psychopath brother, that whole scene alone should pay for my therapy. we kept being told they are in love, but we are never shown that. hey, maybe some advice. slapping romantic music over a scene will not make the scene romantic, you actually need to write it too. this relationship goes nowhere because itself and the two characters inside it doesn't change. it's always clary wants something so jace push everyone and everything under the solar system out of the way to give it to her. this wouldn't be a problem if, yk, it is only in the first season and they have character development. but let me remind you S3B they summon lilith back to earth despite magnus losing his magic to help defeat her (didn't make it to this list but a very strong honorary mention) with the worst possible plan. relying on a guy simon knew for less than the time clary and jace spent thinking through their plan. it like you are asking for him to betray you

aldetree izzy raphael and yinfen 

one of the only major plotlines izzy has. and it's this. because of course this addict seeks a provider then both fall in love and the provider becomes addict again is super duper appropriate to happen to these two. two of the poc characters who are prominent in the show. one of the few female characters. of course very splendid decisions right there. and at the end of the series izzy gets together with someone who can make her relapse again. all because this storyline that could have been cut off and replaced with something more decent. but nope! sexily blood drinking time!
