Monster Popularity Contest: Legends of Innistrad
Well, it's been quite some time since I last posted anything here (all the way back in April, in fact!) but my long summer hiatus is finally over, and I'm happy to be back on a regular schedule once again. That starts with new Weekly Releases, including this brand-new series of monsters from Innistrad, the gothic-horror setting for Magic: the Gathering. Terrify your players with Kurbis, the huanted treefolk; whip-up a mad science mini-boss using Oglor, Devoted Assistant; or put your players firmly in celestial crosshairs using Sigarda, Font of Blessings!
And if you'd like to get early access to more releases like this, vote in weekly polls to decide what I make next, and get access to exclusive patron-only content (like a d100 table of Local Tavern Meals for your fantasy bar of choice), all for as little as $2/month, you can sign up to support me over on Patreon!

oglor, devoted assistant used to be only in the flavor text of stitcher's apprentice and was printed as digital only in alchemy: innistrad. it this was printed to work in paper this would definitley go hard in like pioneer for dredge. it is a very fun card nonetheless.

Homunculus fact! While Homunculi on Ravnica, Fiora, and Kylem have been shown to have vowelless names, that is not the case on Innistrad, as with Geralf's assistant, Oglor.

The door to the study slammed open. A furious stitcher stood in the doorway.
“Oglor! I called for you two hours ago! What was so important in here that you couldn’t even respond?”
The mad scientist’s one-eyed assistant was silently poring over a stack of books in the cramped study.
Geralf glowered at the homonculus for a time before finally shrugging in defeat. “Ah, forget it. I suppose we’re not subduing a test subject or doing any live experiments today, anyways. Regardless, judging from the size of that pile of books, you’ve been in here all day. You should probably eat something.”
As soon as the words left Geralf’s mouth, Oglor exploded into a mess of eyes, limbs, and mouths. Now mutated even further, the creature reached for the pile of books it had already finished reading, and began shoveling them into the new mouth that encased its original eye. Meanwhile, Geralf stared on in horror.
Tumblr media
“Oglor…! That one was personally signed by Ludevic! I realize you’re voracious and likely bloodthirsty, too, but must you be so…undiscerning in your palate?”
The homonculus ignored the stitcher and continued its meal.
“Right. You probably didn’t understand that. Oh, and I guess you’ll want to kill me after you finish eating those books, too. Well, I’ll just leave you to it!”
Without another word, Geralf shut the door to the study, locked it from the other side, and sprinted away, grumbling as he ran.
“I swear, that creature has no manners…”

Do you think we'll get any lore for the Alchemy unique cards?
Like, the Legends? They're all returning characters. Gitrog and Ishkanah are obvious.
Captain Eberhart has been a flavor text character for years.
So has Oglor, who is Geralf's homunculus assistant.
Rahilda was the leader of the Vildin Howlpack, full of werewolves that were murderers BEFORE they became werewolves.
Gutmorn is one of the demons working for Davriel in Children of the Nameless.

vikings: hoarded literally thousands of coins with arabic writing
i am have mentioned several times how the norse appeared to have a lack off interest in ancient roman and ancient roman jewellary
(although not a total lack, do not get me wrong, one finds ancient roman jewellary in swedish iron age tombs, but if you compare it to some other interest of them the interest appear lacking)
but you know what they LOVED, and hoarded in gigantic piles? in particular in what is today south sweden?
coins with arabic writing on it!
seriously, i have mentioned this before, but they had a bit of a islamic coin addiction on the south east coast of scandinavia. thousands upon thousands of coins with arabic writing has been found in sweden.
one of the more famous hoards of that type in sweden is the vårby treasure. the vårby treasure has both original coins (and some jewellary perhaps? unsure) from regions which used the arabic writing system during the epoch ( 800 - 1099 CE), and some stuff which were actually made in scandinavia but imitated being arabic writing (so the text is actually nonsense, and does not use actual writing. but norse be like: “this looks good enough!!!” because the absolute majority could not read arabic writing ya know)
anyway some pics of the vårby treasure, a treasure hoard from cira 800-1099 CE, found in vårby, in modern day sweden
Tumblr media
the treasure hoard is just filled to the brim with silver objects
Tumblr media
a close up of some of the coins, which has been altered into pendants. some of these coins are according to the source actually originals, while some are iron age copies created in scandinavia. i can’t tell which are which but!
Tumblr media
close up of the some of the items. the objects in the treasure hoard stand out by showing influence both from the medieval islamic world, and from the local nordic art traditons.
there are both imports from different regions, but ALSO locally made objects. togheter it forms a very culturally diverse treasure hoard, which showscases the international contacts that were possible for someone living in south - east scandinavia during the iron age.
who the owner of the hoard was we can’t know. it is ofcourse fully possible they were from another cultural context than the norse althogheter. but still, the exemples of diverse styles showcases what kind of cultural influences one could be in contact with in mälardalen during the viking age.
also, vårby is today a suburb to stockholm. and stockholm is in mälardalen. just to help people with the geographical location.
(and also because there are more than 1 vårby in sweden. vårby= village of signal beacons)

In today’s adventures of Odric Doesn’t Know How to DM
-Group arrived in port town of Praydeth on the continent of Thedia
-Kadeem, during one of his fasts, collapses in the town square
-Hearing the commotion, each member of the group rushes to the scene where they find Kadeem being tended to by a tall man with orange hair
-Aya heals Kadeem of his fatigue just enough to get him to an inn for some food and rest
-Seeing that the group before him is capable of handling themselves, he strikes up an offer for gold in exchange for work - helping him get a book
-The group accepts, and heads to a nearby shop - The Sunken Chest - for supplies to prepare
-Rather than a shop keep, the group finds a mean spirited homunculus
Tumblr media
-Tricking their way in, they find that it is actually two homunculi (one standing in top of the other), who have beaten and bound a third homunculi in a closet in the back
-The group narrowly avoids killing the two homunculi and free the third
-And find out that the three homunculi are brothers
-Their parents, the original shop owners, left the shop in their will to “Oglor”
-Only each of the three homunculi are named Oglor
-So they can’t decide among themselves who gets to run the shop
-Kadeem: “You know, if you all stack on top of each other...you’ll all be...’Oglor’.”
-The realization hits the brothers like a ton of bricks, who reward Kadeem for helping them with a necklace
-Nothing is special about the necklace
-HOWEVER, it’s actually a locket, and inside the locket is a ring, which is special as fuck [Consumable, if the wearer is at 1hp, the wearer’s health is restored to full. Disintegrates upon use.]
-Plus some other common items

Request: Scotty Tries to Ask You on a Date
Tumblr media
Anonymous said: Could I request an AOS Scotty fic where he has a crush on Reader but she is oblivious to his advances
Author’s note: To any Star Trek artists out there: if you draw Scotty jumping off the warp core, fireworks and everything, I will be forever grateful.
ALL REQUESTS ARE OPEN! - | Support me on Ko-Fi |
Scotty had tried everything, ranging from subtle flowers left outside your quarters, to love poems uploaded onto your PADDs. But Scotty felt that even if he threw himself off the warp core (with a parachute, of course), with fireworks going off in the shape of your name and dramatic trumpet fanfares, you’d still be clueless that he had a crush on you. But tonight, everything was going to change.
The crew of the Enterprise had been invited to a function hosted by the wealthy alien nobility of Oglore Prime. Many of the crew were going with dates, and Scotty wanted to be one of them. He’d go with you on his arm, or not at all. Actually, he’d probably have to go anyways, but he didn’t tell you that.
Seeing you heading back to your quarters from the mess hall, Scotty waved to you. You were thankfully alone, no coworkers in sight to see Scotty make a fool of himself. He had wanted to make his proposal alone, and it seemed as if Lady Luck was smiling upon him for the moment.
“(Y/N)!” Scotty called you, trepidation making his brogue more noticeable than usual. “I need to ask you a question.”
“Is it about the antimatter relays, Commander?” you asked. “If so, I’ve already sorted those out.”
“You’re a gem, but that’s not what I was going to ask,” Scotty replied, barely keeping himself from stammering. His carefully planned speech was flying out of his head faster than warp nine, and Scotty paused to recollect his thoughts.
“You know the party on Oglore Prime?” Scotty asked, immediately wondering whether what he was saying sounded right.
“Yes, of course,” you replied. “What about it? Do you need me to retrofit a few shuttles for the trip down? Put some PADDs together with our engineering information as a sign of good will?”
“Nah, nah, no need,” Scotty interjected. “I… I was just wondering whether you’d like to come with me to the party.”
“Scotty, you didn’t need to ask!” you replied cheerfully, and Scotty looked at you in surprise. Could it have been as easy as that? It didn’t seem likely.
“Don’t we always go to parties together?” you asked. Scotty groaned internally. Of course it wasn’t that easy.
“Yeah, but we go as friends,” Scotty tried to explain.
“What on earth would you want us to go as? Enemies?” you continued to question Scotty, who was reaching his wit’s end.
“Of course not!” Scotty replied. “I wanted to go as… I wanted to go as a…”
But before Scotty could get the words out, you began to walk away, a slight bounce in your step.
“I can’t wait, Scotty!” you cried out over your shoulder. “I’ve been looking for an excuse to wear my new dress shoes!”
As you vanished around the bulkhead, Scotty let out a sigh of exasperation he didn’t know he was holding. It seemed that he’d have to go back to the drawing board– but at least you were coming.

Hi Mark, I'm not opposed to alchemy existing as a part of arena, but I wanted to say it feels bad to see legendary creatures in alchemy. For commander players, it's disheartening seeing legendary characters that we know from the story or flavor text (oglor from innistrad, most recently rusko) that we aren't able to play in card form. Thanks for listening to all the player feedback on here, hope you're having a good day!
I’ll pass the note along. I’ve gotten it from numerous sources.

You mentioned that the Community Team has been calling the Curious Homunculus Dewey. Does this mean that we can all rest assured that everyone's favorite assistant to Geralf, Oglor, is happily still tentacle-free? There was a lot of concern over that after seeing the card.
Oglor survived years as Geralf’s assistant. Oglor can survive ANYTHING.
