I like that Charon's new shop theme in Hades 2 has the strings sound so forceful and it has that undercurrent of electronic beat similar to his Hades 1 battle theme. His oar's got a silver blade with moon decor, signifying his alliance to the Unseen, and now the ornaments are on both edges instead of one. The man seems chill but you could definitely see he is BIG MAD right now.
His little brothers, one asleep for literal decades at this point and the other imprisoned with his mother; his sisters taken and banished; his darling professional associate has not returned from the war and he's lonely; to top it all off, Chronos ruined his obol monopoly and the entire dying cycle so he's out of business.
I wouldn't be surprised when Olympus update gets released and we find out there's a new assist character in the third/fourth surface region, it's just Charon shelling the entire mountainside from his flagship.

Charmes idea that for centuries, Charon and Hermes had a casual sort of deal going on that Hermes first proposed since they're both busy so why not be professional associates with benefits? Mutually beneficial and all, just a way to let off steam. Doesn't have to mean anything and it didn't as he's visit, drop off souls and contraband, chat Charon's ear off, hopefully get taken to pound town if the boatman was in the mood, and theyd part the same as they came together. Except as time goes on, it absolutely does start to mean more to Hermes but he holds it back and ignores it because why would he ruin this thing they've got going on with a big ole crush that Charon probably doesn't reciprocate?
And maybe he does pretend a little bit that it means something more in the moment. In those rare occasions when his stalwart ferryman does not immediately stiffen in the afterglow and send him off as there is work to be done. When Charon holds him for a time, ringed fingers gentle in his hair and his feathers as they rest and Hermes can pretend it has meaning beyond a brash agreement.
Then all the stuff with Chronos happens and they dont get see each other anymore for anything, not the friendship or business or pleasure and the distance and the time apart has made him realize how deep that little crush has truly turned. And by god, is it hurting him; Hermes' thoughts drifting often to Charon, about the time they spent together, hoping he isn't lonely, that he's doing okay, thinking all the things he would say that he wasn't brave enough to before, and why oh why didn't he when he had the chance...
But there's always doubt. Always a chance Charon wouldn't see him the same, yet the thought of just returning to how they were fills him with the same kind of dread as Charon rejecting him if things return to normal. So inbetween zipping around being a sneaky little shit, he's wallowing in his feelings like a lovesick puppy missing his not-so professional associate and dreaming of returning to Charon's embrace with love on his lips and the sentiment returned in kind.

"Eratosthenes recounts in his Hermes that Hera unknowingly gave milk to the infant Hermes, but when she came to realize that he was Maia's son, she pushed him away; and this is why a bright trail of spilled milk can be seen among the stars." (Hyginus, Astronomy 2.43)
Hera: Ow, random baby. He must be hungry- EWWW, it's Maia's brat!

I just finished chapter 12 of the the Iliad and Athena is so fond of Odysseus.
He's freaking out on the beach because he doesn't know he's on Ithaca, and she comes up disguised as a shepherd boy and is like "this is Ithaca, dude", and Odysseus immediately swallows down every single emotion and spins a whole story about being an exile from Crete because he killed the king's son, and Athena just laughs at him and says "There aren't many who can keep up with trickery, but I'm also well practised in intrigue" or something along those lines
And then she removes her disguise and says "you didn't recognise me, though!" and it has like the clear undertones of, 'haha, I win this round!'
and then she assures him that he is on ithaca, and points out landmarks to prove it, and they hide all his treasure, sit down and plot about how to murder all the suitors, before she disguises him as an old man and flies off to grab Telemachus from Sparta
It's the best. I love them both.

A doctor rushing to a small town on horseback, praying diligently to Hermes for safe and speedy travel so that they may make it before the patient is too sick to help. Hermes hearing this - and curious by it. People often ask for safety from thieves. Thieves ask for luck amongst the roads, potential targets to snag and steal. Merchants request shortcuts so they may sell their wares quicker. Rarely does he ever hear prayers for safety, for speed, for luck so that someone may help another.
So he follows silently, a little sparrow soaring above. Slips down from the air to the ground, as tiny as a mouse, and darts rapidly behind running boots. Watches from the corner of a room as a child weakly breathes and a doctor patiently attends to them.
It's interesting to him, the care. He's not yet seen it much in travelers - seen it in families, of course, in friends. But never in strangers. People are wary of those they meet on roads. Strangers on hidden paths, far away from helpful eyes and warrior swords, prickle with potential danger.
And yet...
It's interesting to watch the colour rise back to a pale face, cheeks flushed, lungs drained of fluid and now breathing clearer. A medicinal paste is rubbed into a lanced wound. Clear words, clear instructions.
The doctor stays for a few more days, attending to small ailments, checking in on the child. And then they're off to the next town, praying for safety and speed so they may help those who need it before it's too late.
He follows. He watches. He learns.
It fascinates him. Healing, helping. Traveling roads endlessly to take care of others. Even at cost, it's baffling. The effort, the drive - how do they manage it? Aren't they tired?
All travelers settle down eventually. Nomadic lifestyles run thin as age impacts movement. Energy. And yet on and on this doctor roams. And others soon follow.
Please, Lord Hermes, they whisper into rushing wind, please let me make it in time. Before someone falls prey to Death's cold scythe. I just want to help.
Okay, he whispers back, inaudible to their ears but not to their growing spirit. Run, my child. You will make it. You will help.

Hail Zeus for my sister's protection! She's going to school on an island and was potentially going to get hit by the surges on the edges of Francine, and wasn't sure if she would have to evacuate. A category 1 storm earlier in the season wiped out the power there for a full week and they were already waterlogged this time around from recent rain, so the chances of things going well if they got hit at all was slim regardless of whether or not the university put out an evacuation order.
I'm thinking of and worried for those in the path of Francine. May Poseidon and Zeus protect you and Hermes guide your feet should you have to leave home.

basically do you prefer to play solo or do you prefer to get the story run with the scions and then play with others or do you hate support/trust etc etc
this occurred to me when I was making the least favorite dungeons polls and people were mentioning other players as reasons they didn't like certain dungeons which is something I didn't consider for my own choices in later dungeons since I always run them as trusts unless I'm with a friend

All dogs have personalities of their own, yeah, and any breed can have dogs with big personalities. But the biggest personalities? The dogs who are The Most Dog, who are fun to sit around and watch and even just be near them, who have so much personality and individuality they might as well be people? Dogs who are raised with consent and allowed to communicate and set boundaries, and who trust people to respect those boundaries because those boundaries have been enforced by their owners/handlers.
The difference is absolutely shocking, even between dogs trained mostly positively but without consent focused training and dogs who are trained with consent as a focus. When dogs feel incredibly safe to be themselves and display their natural behaviors you get to see so much more of who they are and develop much more of an equal relationship with their individual personalities.

Hermes: Gentlemen, gentelmen let's be civil about this. Let's make a deal. You surrender and you don't die? Human: And how you intend to kill us? Hermes: Oh, no. I can't kill you. But my brother can. Say hi Ares. *ares standing behind Hermes with killer eyes*: Hi, I give you two seconds to run.

one thing i realized about fandaniel's dynamic with xande that really fucks me up is, like.... there are the obvious parallels that canon draws between meteion and xande, and their roles in hermes/fandaniel's lives. and there are also the parallels between fandaniel and meteion. there's a lot to unpack.
but it hit me recently that one of hermes' deepest, most devastating regrets is having failed meteion, with abuse and hypocrisy and the project he had the authority to make her a part of.
he was painfully aware that he wasn't fit to be a father; that he'd put them in a bitch of an unsatisfactory situation with his lack of foresight; that he was currently fucking things up in ways he did not know how to understand or articulate, much less address. he knew that there was no support system for this; not just for his mental health issues in general, but to educate him and hold him accountable about how to be decent to her, because he knew no one would give a fuck. the closest thing anyone would have given him to advice would be to just kill her and start over.
he says he hopes she'll find a better parent out there in space somewhere, because he knows there is not one to be found for her anywhere on this star, including him. she was one of the most helpless, vulnerable people in their society, and there was no backup for her if he mistreated her, if he failed. and he did.
so of course his next attempt to find a meteion would be an emperor. of course he'd be at the very top of the most powerful empire in the world, at the time. of course he'd position himself as his servant, devote himself to him utterly, and value his authority above all. he wanted someone he could never hurt the way he hurt meteion again.
#final fantasy xiv#ffxiv#ffxiv hermes#ffxiv meteion#ffxiv fandaniel#ffxiv amon#anyway. kill me. just fucking kill me#they hurt me so bad#ffxivtag#FF tag#to dyn#abuse cw#honestly it's one of the things that makes hermes and meteion stand out to me among#'abusive parent under massive pressure with a lack of access to education or support; who feels guilty about it and is trying to fix things#narratives#which usually end up pushing my buttons hard#for one thing the majority of the time the parents in these narratives *absolutely do* have access to those things#and just refuse to actually seek those resources out; so they can keep abusing while avoiding responsibility for it#and while actively fishing for pity and sympathy over being abusive; muscling the victim's pain out of the way; in-narrative or out#'we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas!'#hermes really and truly did not have *anywhere* to turn about this that he could trust#even more often than that though the thing that really fucking gets me is that the abusive parent is *always* shown to take out their guilt#by *blaming and punishing their victim for showing signs of the abuse*#because how Dare you inconvenience me by being traumatized and how Dare you be helpless living proof of what i have done#hermes does not ever *ever* blame or punish her for things that make him feel guilty and that he does not know how to fix#and that does not make it The Good Acceptable Kind of Abuse by Comparison(tm); it is *far* below the bare minimum#but it makes me feel some kind of way.#endwalker spoilers#dyn: fish inside a birdcage

Don't know if I've gushed about this here yet but I will gush about again!!!
I love how loving the gods have 'tricked' me into loving parts of myself I have forsaken. I could never claim to be as cunning or witty as Lord Hermes or let alone as ferocious and driven as Lord Ares- BUT I still see traits of them in myself.
How can I take my silver tongue for granted if Lord Hermes so graciously gifted it to me?
How could I look down on what others deem to be 'bad emotions' if it's what helps Lord Ares win the war?
It's been a long journey and it's going to be a longer one still to love myself fully but I think I'm starting to truly love the journey and not just tolerate it for the sake of surviving.
