First of all, sorry for taking so long, this ask is extremely old. You can read it on AO3 in a few days for more pictures and tell me if I forgot anyone.

NARUTO/BORUTO CHARACTERS NINJA RANKS ACCORDING TO OFFICIAL SOURCES.

All available information about these characters is official and has been published by Studio Pierrot, Viz Media, Shueisha and their Jump magazines in their anime, manga, databook and novels.

It doesn’t include third party information, retailer sold items, leaks or potential fake information. Please read the end of the post for clarification.

Before I begin, let’s consider the ninja ranks and the promotion system:

Academy Students undergo a final exam where they have to perform a basic ninjutsu technique. In the case of the Rookies, it was a clone technique.

After passing the exam they get put in a genin team and go through a Genin Certification Exam carried out by their assigned jōnin team leader. For example, Team 7’s was the bell test. If they fail, they are sent back to the Ninja Academy.

Genins (下忍) complete the countless missions, large and small, that constantly pour into the village and would never been completed without their aid.

When their leader considers they are eligible for promotion, they participate in the Chūnin Exams, which happen twice a year, to test if they have the capabilities to lead a team.

Chūnins (中忍) are in the center of the ranking, but their abilities require them to lead small shinobi teams of shinobi and to have good judgement as commanders. Skilled chūnin usually monitor the Chūnin Exams or lead other teams outside the battlefield.

If one of these chūnin is particularly adept in one area, they could be appointed to Tokubetsu/Special Jōnin (特別上忍) and be asked to lead entire village departments.

On the other hand if one of these chūnin has reached elite skills, they could be appointed to Jōnin (上忍) and complete the most difficult missions by themselves, or even instruct genin teams. Jōnins are also expected to command military divisions, and they are represented by the Jōnin Commander.

Any shinobi eligible for the Kage (影) title is or are selected by the village Council, a group consisting of the heads/leaders of ANBU and Medical Department, the Jōnin Commander and the daimyō of the country. The candidate is later approved by the Jōnin Council.

Due to Tumblr's image limit, I will only share the last piece of evidence about their rank or the first piece of evidence for Jōnins as their rank does not change later.

Naruto Uzumaki (Genin/Kage):

He graduated from the Ninja Academy at 12 and became a genin member of Team 7. He didn’t get a promotion due to leaving Konoha before the second Chūnin Exams, unlike his classmates.

He is a genin in the first, second, third, fourth databook and Retsu no Sho.

Officially, Naruto is a genin and recognized as one until the time he was appointed Kage of Konoha between the Blank Period and Boruto: Naruto the Movie.

In an interview from Boruto: Naruto the Movie in 2015, Masashi Kishimoto confirmed that Naruto was never promoted to either chūnin or jōnin before he was named Kage.

Studio Pierrot wrote a filler episode during the end of Naruto Shippūden where Naruto was encouraged to study in order to be promoted to the next ranks before being allowed to become Kage. The animation studio is infamous for coming ahead of manga pace or author statements and writing nonsense.

In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations episode 48, Naruto confirmed that he had never been promoted and is indeed considered a genin.

Sasuke Uchiha (Genin/No rank/Nukenin):

He graduated from the Ninja Academy at 12 and became a genin member of Team 7. He didn’t get a promotion due to going rogue before the second Chūnin Exams, unlike his classmates, so Konoha no longer considers Sasuke as a ninja.

In the third, fourth databook and Retsu no Sho, Sasuke’s rank appears blank and is considered to be a rogue ninja/nukenin.

In an interview from Boruto: Naruto the Movie in 2015, Masashi Kishimoto confirmed that Sasuke was never promoted to either chūnin or jōnin before he was branded as a rogue ninja/nukenin.

Sakura Haruno (Jōnin):

She graduated from the Ninja Academy at 12 and became a genin member of Team 7.

After the failure of her generation’s first Chūnin Exams, she participated in a second examination and was promoted to chūnin at 14 with the rest of her generation, a rank she maintained until the manga ended and the story continued in future projects written by Masashi Kishimoto.

In the third and fourth databooks she is a Chūnin (中忍).

Between the ages of 17 and 19, after the Fourth Shinobi World War and before the Blank Period, Sakura became the only one of Konoha’s kunoichi to be promoted to jōnin, and second of her generation after Temari. She was promoted together with Shikamaru Nara.

In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, it is also reiterated in episode 171 despite being a known fact.

Sai (Chūbu):

He graduated from the Ninja Academy at 9, became a chūnin at age 10 and as a member of ANBU Root, became an ANBU, a rank he maintained until the manga ended and the story continued in future projects written by Masashi Kishimoto.

Between the ages of 17 and 19, after the Fourth Shinobi World War and before the Blank Period, Sai was demoted and became a chūbu, however this rank is exclusive to him and does not belong to the official shinobi rank system. Chūbu means something like “aid branch”.

Note: Despite being the Chief of ANBU, his rank has never been addressed, so he is a chūbu despite seniority within the organization. Chūbu must be a rank inferior to jōnin and superior to tokubetsu/special jōnin, otherwise he would be named jōnin.

Neji Hyūga (Jōnin):

He graduated from the Ninja Academy at 12 and became a genin member of Team 3. After the failure of his class’ second Chūnin Exams, he participated in a second examination and was promoted to chūnin at 15 with the rest of his generation (remember Team 3 are one year older than the rookies).

Between the ages of 15 and 17, during Naruto Shippūden or Naruto part II, Neji was the first shinobi of his class and Konoha’s generation to be promoted to jōnin, and the only one of his generation with Suna’s Kankurō.

In the third, fourth databooks and Retsu no Sho he is a Chūnin (中忍).

Between the ages of 17 and 33, after the Blank Period and before Boruto: Naruto the Movie, Rock Lee was the second shinobi of his class and fourth in Konoha’s generation to be promoted to jōnin after Neji Hyūga, Sakura Haruno and Shikamaru Nara.

In the third and fourth databooks he is a Chūnin (中忍).

Due to his last rank data being in the Blank Period and not being shown in the Zai no Sho databook, and the lack of information in the anime, manga, databooks, novels or official material published by Studio Pierrot, Shino’s rank remains to be chūnin and he was never promoted.

Note: The settei circulating from a Japanese manga shop that listed Shino as jōnin is an old draft from Studio Pierrot that never made it to the story and is information never made public by the animation studio in any book or material. Mandarake is a retail shop that purchases items from anime studios and animators and sells them, in other words, animators sell their portfolio and Mandarake sells them in a pack. Several anime drafts displayed by this shop have also never made the final cut in the anime, like the family chart that listed Tenten and Rock Lee as divorcees. Furthermore, the anime confirmed in episode 6 that "Shino sensei has jōnin-level skills", not that he's a jōnin, meaning he is a chūnin with jōnin-level skills, more confirmation about the discarded chart. There are currently no manga panels, anime episodes, novels or databook sources that hint the chart is canon. Shino is a chūnin according to all official and available sources.

In the third and fourth databooks she is a Chūnin (中忍).

After the age of 17, Hinata retired a chūnin and has lived as a common housewife according to Naruto Shinden and Naruto Retsuden.

In the third and fourth databooks he is a Chūnin (中忍).

Between the ages of 17 and 19, after the Fourth Shinobi World War and before the Blank Period, Shikamaru became the first shinobi of his class and second in Konoha’s generation to be promoted to jōnin after Neji Hyūga. He was promoted together with Sakura Haruno.

Between the ages of 14 and 16, Gaara was named Fifth Kazekage, a rank he maintained until the manga ended and the story continued in future projects written by Masashi Kishimoto. It was never confirmed whether he also obtained the promotion to jōnin.

In the third and fourth databooks he is Kazekage (風影).

Between the ages of 17 and 19, during Naruto Shippūden or Naruto part II, Temari was promoted to jōnin with Kankurō and became the first kunoichi of her generation to become one, a rank she maintained until the manga ended and the story continued in future projects written by Masashi Kishimoto.

In the third and fourth databooks she is a Jōnin (上忍).

He graduated from the Ninja Academy at an unknown age and became a genin. At the time of his debut in Naruto Shippūden or Naruto part II, he was a chūnin at age 16, a rank he maintained until the manga ended and the story continued in future projects written by Masashi Kishimoto.

In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations episode 166, it was said that a group of jōnin from Kumogakure confronted Deepa, Omoi being one of them. This could imply that Omoi was promoted to jōnin between the ages of 17 and 32.

Hanabi Hyūga (Jōnin):

In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations she is given a genin team, so she must have been at least a Tokubetsu Jōnin in order to become a sensei.

In the second Boruto novel written by Ukyō Kodachi, she is confirmed to be a Jōnin (上忍).

Konohamaru Sarutobi, Udon Ise and Moegi Kazamatsuri (Jōnin): He graduated from the Ninja Academy at an unknown age and was a genin at the age of 12 during Naruto Shippūden or Naruto part II, a rank he maintained until the manga ended and the story continued in future projects written by Masashi Kishimoto.

In Naruto Gaiden character descriptions, they are all described as Jōnin (上忍).

Konohamaru is described as a Jōnin (上忍) in Zai no Sho.

She graduated from the Ninja Academy at an unknown age and became a genin. At the time of her debut in Naruto Shippūden or Naruto part II, she was a jōnin at age 18. She was already a Kage when the manga ended and the story continued in future projects written by Masashi Kishimoto.

Between the ages of 18 and 33, after Naruto Shippūden or Naruto part II and Boruto: Naruto the Movie, Kurotsuchi had become the Third Tsuchikage.

Chōjūro (Jōnin/Kage):

He graduated from the Ninja Academy at an unknown age and became a genin. At the time of her debut in Naruto Shippūden or Naruto part II, he was a jōnin at age 19. He was already a Kage when the manga ended and the story continued in future projects written by Masashi Kishimoto.

Between the ages of 19 and 34, after Naruto Shippūden or Naruto part II and Boruto: Naruto the Movie, Chōjūro had become the Sixth Mizukage.

Darui (Jōnin/Kage):

He graduated from the Ninja Academy at an unknown age and became a genin. At the time of her debut in Naruto Shippūden or Naruto part II, he was a jōnin at age 26. He was already a Kage when the manga ended and the story continued in future projects written by Masashi Kishimoto.

Between the ages of 26 and 41, after Naruto Shippūden or Naruto part II and Boruto: Naruto the Movie, Darui had become the Fifth Raikage.

However, the writer of the Boruto manga at the time, Ukyō Kodachi, changed his rank and demoted him to Tokubetsu/Special Jōnin (特別上忍) in chapter 11.

Omoi was a chūnin in Naruto and was later mentioned in a team of jōnin in the anime.

Naruto Uzumaki confirmed his genin rank in the anime.

Sakura Haruno has been a jōnin since Zai no Sho, Retsu no Sho and the anime.

Shikamaru Nara has been a jōnin since Zai no Sho, Retsu no Sho and he is now a Kage in the manga.

Summary: Damon Maitsu wants to become a godparent no matter what. Kai Monteago should be his ticket to becoming one early, but he isn't. Fortunately, they manage to graduate from Fairy Academy and officially be godparents together. Things aren't great at first, but they adjust to the other as time goes on. It can even be said that they like being with the other, maybe even more than being with anyone else. After thousands of years helping thousands of children, Toshiko Kayura gets them as her godparents. She already knows what she wants to do: Get into Eden's Garden Academy and become a respected matchmaker. Getting godparents should make the process easier, but they end up bringing more trouble than expected, especially with Tozu and Eva Tsunaka in the picture. Toshiko ends up being a challenge for Damon and Kai, too, since they never had a godchild who made them struggle so much. Before. At the end of the day, their problems won't be solved by anyone else, meaning this group of three has no one to rely on but each other. the pilot episode

Lately, Kai had been wondering if it was all worth it.

Each day, was the same as the last. Every time, it was the same results. He could put in all the effort he was allowed to put in, or he could put none at all. It didn't matter. There was no difference. If he went away now, nothing would change other than everyone else getting less work.

It made him wonder what he would do if he left, though. Would he just rot until the end of time? Would he try to take his own life? Those were the only options he could see if he quit. It was so pathetic what his life was turning into.

Really, though, there was no point in continuing. It was a dead end. There was nothing to come from it.

It was then when Kai saw him for the first time. He didn't know his name, but he didn't know a lot of people's names. His face, though... It looked familiar if he squinted, but he was sure he never met this person before. It was weird that this person approached him when it didn't look like he was being forced to. He was so calm and professional about it, too, like he was just here to get a job done. Upon noticing that, Kai was sure that this was some new guy who got hired to take care of him like he needed a babysitter. He was getting so sick of all these people. Most of them didn't even last that long.

Kai was going to tell him to go away and leave him alone. He even prepared a threat and everything, since these people were so easy to scare. It was good he didn't, though, since before he could say it, the "new guy" asked, "Do you want to be godparents together?"

season 0, episode 1

Fairy Academy required more physical exercises than Damon Maitsu thought was necessary. They were only training to take care of godchildren, and their magic would help them in the worst scenarios. The training at Fairy Academy disagreed with him, though, since push-ups and wand-ups were mandatory. Loud instructions and other Fairies struggling from the intensity were what he had been forced to get used to.

Sitting in Wolfgang Akire's office was the quietest place Damon had been in since coming to Fairy Academy. The only sound was the rustling of Wolfgang going through papers and a clock ticking with every second.

Damon kept his posture straight enough to look professional but relaxed enough to look like he wasn't phased by the uncomfortable silence. His eyes had been focused on Wolfgang sitting across the office table, but he was getting bored at looking at his pale skin and slicked-back hair. In an attempt to get rid of that, his eyes wandered to the fairy sitting next to him.

Unlike Wolfgang, who easily achieved the professional-yet-relaxed look Damon wanted, the fairy next to him kept his yellow eyes trained on the table. His black hair was falling over his face, and his shoulders were hunched like he was trying to curl into himself. He looked pathetic, but even though Damon knew he wasn't the only fairy who thought that at least once about Kai Monteago, he couldn't say that out loud now.

Damon's attention was brought back to Wolfgang when he put the papers back onto the desk. He sent him a smile. "I must say, Damon, you're a very hard worker. While your physical stamina can be improved, you would make a decent godparent despite being here for only a few hundred years. You could become a good one if you treated children a little better, though."

That wasn't what he was hoping to hear, but if he was going to hear it, he had to be polite for now. "Thank you, Mister Akire. I'm trying my best to be better every day."

"It's good to hear that. And please, just call me Wolfgang." His gaze went to Kai. The polite cheerfulness in his voice was gone. "I don't need to talk about how your training is going."

Kai didn't respond.

That tone from before returned to his voice. "From the looks of it, Kai, Damon could help you with your weaker areas. Since you have always been good with children, you can help Damon with his weaker areas as well. I'm surprised you've met someone who can help you as well as Damon can."

"Yeah. Real lucky..." Those were the first words Kai had said since entering Wolfgang's office.

Wolfgang drummed his wingers against his desk. "Despite how interested I am in this idea, I'm worried how it might go, though. I've never had anyone request to be a godparent with another fairy. Actually, I'm sure no one has ever asked that. I'm not surprised Kai is one of the two fairies asking, though.

"How about this: Since Kai knows everything there is about Fairy Academy's training by now, you two will train together until Damon has enough knowledge to graduate. Your final test will be modified to fit two godparents. I will oversee it myself. If you cannot complete the test in one go, or you prove to be incompatible during the rest of your training, your request to be godparents together will be denied. However, if you work well together during training and pass, you will both immediately graduate, and you'll be assigned a godchild within two weeks. Are we all in agreement?"

Damon was sure there was a better deal than that, but he didn't want to risk trying to negotiate with one of the headmasters at Fairy Academy, who was also the leader of the Fairy Council. At least to him, it was better to have a bad deal but keep Wolfgang happy than to have a good deal but make Wolfgang unhappy. "That works for me."

"And me," hurriedly added Kai.

Wolfgang smiled. "This will be exciting times. I'll be interested to see if you two can make history by being the first, and I'm sure Mister Wilhelm would agree. However, I'd like to talk to Damon in private."

Without hesitation, Kai stood and left the office, leaving Damon alone with Wolfgang. Damon forced his attention to stay away from the door and on Wolfgang.

With the door shut behind Kai, Wolfgang's calm face shifted into an expression that had a mix of worry and suspicion. "You understand what you're getting into if you become a godparent with Kai, right? I don't have to walk you through every consequence that could come from spending so much time with him?"

"If I didn't, we wouldn't be here right now," replied Damon.

"I just wanted to make sure. If Kai ends up becoming too much of a problem for you, please come to me as soon as you can. I'll make sure he won't become a problem for you anymore."

"That isn't necessary."

"For now, it isn't. I want to make sure you know your options, though." Wolfgang smiled politely. "If this agreement between you and Kai doesn't work out, remember that it isn't your fault."

Damon could hear the unspoken words saying it would be Kai's fault. Damon could destroy Earth, and Kai would be the one everyone would blame. Granted, Damon didn't have enough power to destroy Earth, but it was still good to know that.

Their conversation ended there, and Damon was excused to leave. Outside, he found Kai standing outside near the door. Their eyes met for a few seconds before Damon broke it by going in the opposite direction. He resisted a sigh when he realized Kai was following him.

"I have a question," Kai said as he began to fly next to him as if they were friends. "A lot of them, but the main one and probably the only one you'll answer... Do I know you?"

"I know you," Damon answered dryly without looking at him.

He rolled his eyes. "Everyone knows me. But I don't even know your name. I mean, I don't know a lot of people's names, but I think I know yours now. It's Damon, right? I heard Wolfgang say it."

"It is Damon."

"Damon...?"

"Damon Maitsu."

"So, Damon Maitsu, have I seen you before? Because if I did, I don't remember it."

"If you don't remember, then you haven't seen me before."

"But then why would you want to be a godparent with me? This is a huge responsibility, you know."

Despite how short it was with Wolfgang, he didn't want to this conversation again. He made sure his voice made it clear he didn't want to talk about it. "I know what I'm getting myself into."

Kai seemed to get it to an extent. "You can be as mysterious as you wanna be, but at least tell me why you want to be godparents with me."

Damon let himself sigh this time. There was no reason to hide it, but the reason was so obvious that it almost pained him to have to say it. "I was hoping I could reduce the time I need for training by being godparents with someone who obviously needs the help, which is you. Since that isn't happening, I can at least become more respectable if people know how much time and effort I'll be putting in to being godparents with you."

"Are..." His tone became accusatory. "You're using me to make yourself look better."

"There isn't any other reason for why someone would willingly spend time with you, let alone make history with you."

Kai was silent before he went off in the other direction. Damon was fine with that. Wolfgang would only be monitoring them during training, and they technically weren't training right now. Besides, it wouldn't do Kai any favours if he hid this from him. It would be too cruel of a fate to let someone think someone else could like their presence. He already risked Kai thinking that when he approached him out of, to be fair, nowhere and asked if he would like to be a godparent with him. There was no need for that anymore.

Tomorrow, Damon would have to come up with excuses upon excuses as to why he and Kai were going to be godparents together. He would also have to start tolerating Kai tomorrow. Wolfgang would be watching them, and Damon couldn't disappoint the person who could either make or break his career as a godparent.

season 6,401, episode 1, part a

"I changed my mind."

Those four words were what Toshiko Kayura despised the most. They were mostly rephrased depending on the person, but that was always the simplest way of them expressing their opinions. Toshiko might be 13, but she was turning 14 in November, and she had helped clients find their true love. She didn't help a lot of people, though, and she was always annoyed at how that number could be bigger if people trusted that she could help them despite how young she was.

Today, she heard those four words again. If that couldn't make today any worse, she heard she had a babysitter coming today. She was sure she was old enough to not need them, but as always, her complaints to her parents went ignored.

When she came to her house, she saw the car outside and felt relived that at least the babysitter wasn't here yet. Toshiko headed for her bedroom. She wanted nothing more than to sleep and forget about today, but she knew she couldn't. Sleep wasn't that merciful. She looked around the room for something to do when she spotted it.

A Magic 9 ball. It was a gift given to her by a costumer—the same one who just stood her up. The costumer thought Toshiko was an adult when giving her the gift, and it was the first time Toshiko was given something by a costumer. She thought it would mean something special was going to happen, but no, it was the same as most of her potential costumers.

Toshiko picked up the Magic 9 ball. It was ugly. The font used for the 9 was ugly, the old-looking yellow was ugly… She hated it. She hated looking at it. It needed to be out of her sight.

Her body reacted before her mind could. The Magic 9 ball went flying out of her hand when she threw it against the far wall. It cracked as it hit it and fell to the ground split perfectly in half. Toshiko couldn't begin to wonder how she was going to throw it away when mist came out of it. She squeezed her eyes shut and held her breath, using her fan to get as much of it away from her.

When she was sure the mist wasn't there anymore, she covered her mouth with her fan and slowly opened her eyes. Her bedroom looked the same at first, but then she noticed the two men.

"Hey, hey, don't be scared!" the one with the pink hair said when Toshiko screamed. "We're not here to hurt you."

Toshiko grabbed the first thing she could for a weapon, which was her pillow. "Who are you? What are you doing in my house?"

The pink-haired one held up his hands and backed away. "My name is Kai Monteago, and this"—he gestured to the blonde one—"is Damon Maitsu. We're your fairy godparents!"

"Fairy…godparents?" She scoffed at the neon lights spelling Fairy Godparents that seemingly appeared out of nowhere. "Do you take me for an idiot? Those aren't real!"

"We have floating crowns and wings," said Damon, gesturing to his and Kai's feet that were a bit above the ground. "We're real."

"How did you even get here?"

Kai winked. "You're one of the lucky kids chosen to have godparents! We're here to make you happy and grant you any wish you want!"

"So long as it follows some rules," added Damon. "You can't wish for anything that harms living creatures, that ruins the fundamental laws of nature, that gets in the way of love…"

"Why would you be godparents of a matchmaker if I can't wish for my clients to be in love?" If she could do that, then she might be able to be seen as responsible despite her young age.

"I never said you can't wish for love. What that rule means is that, for example, if you want someone to stop being friends with another person but that person has a crush on that other person, you can't wish for them to stop being friends."

"What happens if a match turns out to be completely wrong, though? What if one person needs to get out of the relationship, but the other person has some sort of love for them? Does that mean I cannot wish them out of the relationship, and everything that happens to them is all my fault?"

Damon shrugged. "Those are the rules. If something like that ever happens, we can help you find a loophole to save them."

"Well, this is all beside the point." She pointed towards her bedroom door. "Get out of my house before I call the police!"

"If you tell anyone we're here, we'll disappear forever!" warned Kai.

"That's what I want."

"No, you don't! We're here to grant wishes! Here, make a wish. We'll prove we're genuine!"

"I'm not falling for any scams."

Kai frowned and looked over to Damon. Damon muttered something about kids becoming more untrusting with every decade before saying, "Let's make a deal. We'll stay here for the rest of the day. After the day is over, you can choose if you want us to stay or leave. If you choose for us to stay, we'll obviously stay, and if you choose for us to leave, you'll never hear from us again."

Kai's frown deepened. "But if she makes us leave… What are we going to tell Wolfgang?"

"I'll handle it." To Toshiko, he asked, "Do we have a deal?"

Toshiko looked between them. These two men were probably going to be annoying if she didn't agree to it. This deal was probably the best she was going to have. She held out her hand towards Damon. "Fine. We have a deal."

Damon shook her hand less firmly than she thought he would. She didn't have long to wonder about it before Kai jumped in. "So, what are you doing today, Toshiko?"

"I have a babysitter coming in," she answered. "I haven't met him before. I heard his name is Tozu, though."

"Oh, I know a Tozu, but I never actually met him. It's a fancy name," said Kai, "but aren't you too old for babysitters?"

"I am, but my parents think I'm still childish and need them. Fortunately, I will be gone from babysitters soon."

"Why's that?"

"That is a secret I'm not sharing with strangers."

"But we told you our names!"

"That doesn't mean I know you. It's weird for you to know my name before I know yours, anyway. What even are godparents? Just people who grant wishes?"

"Fairies who grant wishes in our case," answered Damon. "Not everyone can do it. As we said before, our job is to grant your wishes and give you a happier life."

Toshiko was going to brush him off before the last part of the sentence kicked in. "You can make my life happier?"

"We grant wishes for a reason. They usually make people's lives happier."

"Alright then." She expanded her fan, hiding her smile. "If you truly are my godparents and can grant any wish I want, I have a wish for you. How do I make those wishes?"

Kai answered before Damon could, but it didn't look like Damon had any intention to answer. "It's easy! All you have to do is start your sentence with, 'I wish,' and finish it with whatever your wish actually is!"

"It does sound simple." She cleared her throat as she stood up straighter. "I wish to be accepted to Eden's Garden Academy."

Kai held up a wand, but his hand was pushed down by Damon who said, "We can't grant that wish."

"You said you would grant any of my wishes," she pointed out.

"I said we could grant you any wish that follows the rules in Da Rules."

"'Da Rules'? Did a child name that?"

"You're a child," Kai said while Damon nodded.

"I am a mature child," argued Toshiko. "I know all about adult matters and can handle them perfectly. My studies are perfect—"

"What is the approximate age of the universe, according to current scientific estimates?" asked Damon.

"My studies are almost perfect," she corrected, "but I can handle more. I would also consider myself to be the best matchmaker in the world, and any of my clients who gave me a chance can tell you that my work ethic is top-tier. I will be able to transfer that work ethic to my studies. I should be considered a good student to be let into Eden's Garden Academy, so this wish should be granted."

"How does any of this relates to that Eden-Garden thing?" asked Kai.

"Eden's Garden Academy is the most prestigious university in the United States of America, perhaps even the whole world."

"Aren't you 13?"

"I'm turning 14 in November."

"That's still pretty young. When I was 14… I was still a baby, actually. What's 14 in fairy years again?"

"It doesn't matter." Damon shot Toshiko a look. "You're still too young in human years to be attending a university. It's June, which means you just graduated from middle school. They're not going to accept you unless you're very talented."

"I still made that wish, so you should grant it."

"Even if we wanted to, we can't. Da Rules say you can't wish to succeed in something like a test and, in this case, being accepted into a university."

Kai looked more disappointed than Toshiko felt. "Can't we just make her the perfect choice with all these special talents?" he asked.

"They'll go away by the time she's accepted, which will do her no good. Speaking of which, how do you get into Eden's Garden Academy?"

"Through exceptional talent…" she reluctantly answered.

"By being the best of the best?" asked Damon.

"Basically. What they're looking for changes every year. Last year, there was someone who was perfect at robotics, and everyone was sure that he was going to get in. Eden's Garden wasn't searching for someone like that, however, so he didn't get any letter at all."

"Wait, so talent's all you need?" Kai grinned. "Da Rules say 'competitions' only for stuff like races, right? Being the best at a talent isn't the kind of competition Da Rules say no to! And it isn't interfering with love if we're just making her the best at being a matchmaker! That's not against any rules, right?"

Damon hesitated. "I guess that's a loophole…"

"Great! We can't wish anything for you that you didn't wish for yourself," Kai informed her, "so go ahead and make your wish!"

"Alright! I wish—"

Toshiko stopped talking when she heard her mother call her to come downstairs. She glanced at the fairies, but they disappeared. There was no time to worry about now, though, and she exited her bedroom. She crossed the second floor to get to the balcony. There, she didn't need to go down the stairs to the first floor to see her parents talking with a man with a goat head that looked like it was made of stone.

Before she could make her presence known, her parents' conversation with the man ended, and they left the house. Toshiko took slow steps down the stairs, her gaze focused on the man.

His mask had no mouth, unless that curved black line she thought was a nose was actually a mouth, but there was a hole for one of his red eyes, if it wasn't the only eye he had. At first, it was looking over the living room. Then, it trained onto her and had an emotion she couldn't place as her feet stepped onto the first floor. He nodded towards her. "Good evening, Miss Toshiko! My name is Tozu. I'll be your babysitter for today."

"Hello, Tozu," she said as politely as she could.

"You have a nice house," he complimented. "May I take a look around?"

"You can, but please don't go into my bedroom. It's the only door on the right when you go up the stairs. The other two doors on the left are my parents' bedroom and the bathroom. My parents most likely wouldn't like you going into their bedroom either, so please only go into the bathroom if you need to."

"Understood! I'll come get you later." Tozu headed towards the kitchen.

Toshiko went back upstairs. Kai and Damon had appeared in her bedroom again. "Where did you go before?"

"We were some toys," Kai answered like he was answering what the weather would be later. "How was meeting Tozu?"

She could ask them more about transforming into toys some other time. "He was fine. He hasn't done anything to make me like nor dislike him. The worst thing about him so far is the goat head."

Kai's smile fell. "Goat head?"

"I thought it was weird too, but I suppose it's just a preference or part of some costume I don't know about. It looked like a mask, but it's a very bad one in my opinion. It looks like it was made from rocks, and like rocks, there are cracks everywhere. One of his horns is broken, and there's a hole for one of his eyes." She shook her head. "If that isn't a costume and is just what he wears every day, I suppose I'll have to get used to it."

She was expecting one of them to tell her it wasn't nice to say that about other people, but she noticed the look the fairies shared. When they did talk, it was Damon who said, "Let's do something. What do you like to do, Toshiko, or what do you want to do?"

"Well, I'd like to know how you can transform into toys," she slowly said.

"It's because of Fagiggly Glands. Do you want the long answer or the short answer?"

"The long one." Toshiko was going to be part of Eden's Garden Academy one day, after all. She could handle hearing long explanations of topics she vaguely found interesting. Plus, listening could help her learn more about these supposed fairies.

yeah no. the number of times you've had to watch those damn rich kids and their fancy ass limos stop by the gate while you get off at the bus stop. everyone else on the bus is staring at you and your uniform— a member of a prestigious university on a jam-packed bus? rumors start circulating. you must be some sort of charity student.

on your first year, you received many of these curious and haughty stares from your fellow students too. it isn’t easy, being a scholarship student, but you wouldn’t be where you are if you let some snobby rich kids embarrass you. so what if you took the subway and had to chase after buses? none of these would matter as soon as you graduate and get yourself an elite job.

when you (unluckily) win the affection of your harem, many if not all of them start devising plans in order to use your situation to their advantage. man. you just wanna go to school. why the fuck do they keep messing this up for you?

it’s the protag powers. the twins use the same subway line as you and have the pleasure of escorting you to class every day. you were a bit surprised when you saw two new students on the subway and mistakenly thought them in the same boat as you, poor background and all. they’re really not; they just like walking a lot. they’re generally pleasant to be with— aether making friendly conversation and entertaining you while lumine smoothly wraps her hand around yours. they protect you from unsavory strangers groping you in the crowded area... and other competitors hoping to have a sneak in some time with you.

they’ve figured out your routes. they know the exact times when you get off and on the bus and trains. they expertly use the motions of the crowd to get themselves near you while hiding at the same time. doesn’t do anything much except stare at you for so long that you start feeling the creeps. honestly the other passengers are scared too. if they get close enough they’re lucky to get a smell of your freshly washed body and experience the familiar smell of your soap for themselves. breaking into your house and sneaking around your bathroom is one thing, but actually smelling it on you is a whole thrilling thing.

Tumblr glitched out one of my posts again so I’m making a separate post about The Trix’s backstories here. Their designs and a brief description of the founding of the group that follows The Three Grand Ancestresses who lead The Attempted Siege of Domino can be found here!

Info on their start in the covens and their meeting and history (primarily Darcy’s, which is super important to my au) below!

They each joined separate factions of the coven at different ages and engaged in rigorous training exercises, each excelling quickly with their magic. Icy was born into it, Stormy’s family joined when she was 6, and Darcy was enrolled in their “academy” a little before turning 8.

The reason the Solarian Staff has a small piece of The Dragon Flame imbued in it is because Solaria was a close ally to Domino back when it was still around . A exchange of culture, artifacts, and knowledge was common. However, after The Fall of Domino, Solaria became much more secretive and coveted their knowledge and shared past with Domino due to the threats they now faced being associated with The Flame. However, members of the royal family are given this knowledge as it is their “right” to know by rulership and emphasizes the importance of keeping The Staff safe and keeps the knowledge hidden from the public. As Darcy’s mother was one of Luna’s many sisters, she had knowledge of this, although never told Darcy as she wasn’t in any need of knowing because she wasn’t close enough in the line for the throne, therefore she didn’t have the “privilege” of having access to this information. She only knows because she overheard her mom whispering to Luna off to the side during Stella’s coronation and Anointing Ceremony.

Cut to her rummaging through old forbidden texts and stuff and learning more about it and then, upon showing great proficiency with her magic at a young age, her mother enrolled her at this very prestigious coven that’s actually aligned with that cult type group (it’s one of the 3 main coven headquarters actually) lead by one of the head honchos for it (there are always 3 Ancestral Witches, each stationed at the big bases of operation (with the title of Ancestral Witch being basically the equivalent of Nymph for witches) in honor and accordance with continuing the legacy of the origins of the 3 Grand Ancestresses, who’s spirits still exist in the physical realm. They choose who shall be their representative and are prayed to for guidance often).

When she is approached by The Ancestral Witch that happens to be stationed at her coven as the head of that faction to ask if she wishes to be trained directly under her as an apprentice at the age of 10, she’s ecstatic. It’s from their she begins to be groomed by the coven to follow their real beliefs and goals of finding The Flame and securing it for them, without that knowledge being shared to her mother, due to the loyalty they begin to instill in her.

Stormy was approached and began her apprenticeship at the age of 12 and Icy began hers at the age of 5.

Once Darcy is made aware of the groups real goals and has sworn her proper loyalty to them at an initiation ceremony at age 13 ( this is masqueraded as a sort of graduating to a higher level of study to the general public), she reveals her knowledge of The Solarian Staff holding some of The Dragon Flame within it to The Head Ancestress and her advisors. This knowledge is shared then with the other 2 Head Ancestresses and they make a plan to secure it using Icy, Darcy, and Stormy as they are their apprentices and are in line to be the next potential Grand Ancestresses. They’re told to see this as their final test to officially become the next in line. At the age of 14, the 3 of them meet and begin a rigorous training regime (even more rigorous than before) to properly learn how to fight together, merge spells, and get their dynamic figured out. The Ancestresses know Stella will be attending Alfea, and that it’ll be easier to secure the staff there as there are less guards and protection spells than there are at the palace. When the 3 girls come of age, they are sent to Cloud Tower (a year before Stella) to get a proper feel for the area and get a plan sorted out.

The next year, Stella attends, and The Trix are ready to enact their plan, only that Stella blows up the science lab and is expelled, leaving them like. “Uh,, now what?” They’re told to just stay there for their second year and learn more and be thorough. This only means they’ll have no excuse to fail their mission next year. And so they do, and then, in their senior year, Stella attends, as does Bloom and everyone else. The events of season 1 are set into motion.

Obey Me Headcanons: Devildom and the RAD

Just a collection of bits (HCs, speculation, and OM lore fixes/sidestepping to keep things consistent) that I’ve put together so far from my work on Community Magic (in which Evie, occasionally mentioned below, is my OC). I may add to this over time {I’ve added to this like 3 times already since originally posting a couple hours ago} as the fic takes shape and as OM adds new content to serve as my own reference. :)

Obviously, may contain spoilers below, so read at your own risk.

If you have your own speculation/fixes or I’m missing information that clarifies some bit of confusing OM lore, I’d love to hear it! The OM core story is still ongoing and the way a lot of this is gleaned from the chats and side bits, it’s very possible that something will be fleshed out further after writing this. The manga in particular will probably help to flesh out more of the actual OM world/background stuff. I’m knowingly shaping a lot of things to help fit my story into OM.

Royal Academy of Diavolo

The abbreviation ‘R.A.D.’ is one I can see people referring to as both ‘the RAD’ and ‘RAD.’ Evie routinely says ‘the RAD,’ while Lucifer more formally uses ‘R.A.D’ (with all the damn periods).

I noticed this after I kept typing “the RAD” but then noticed in-game that no-one prefaces it with ‘the’... I wonder if there are any stores that I can similarly butcher by adding an ‘s’ to the end of the name that doesn’t actually belong there. Maybe Goetia (Asmo’s hair salon)? I can see Evie turning that into “Goetia’s.”

I have the RAD set up as a combination of facets of school types.

It offers a multitude of classes on just about anything one could imagine and more. While it has tenured faculty on staff, it also brings in guest instructors on a rotational basis to lead classes and/or lectures on their niche/specialty area.

Most classes are offered in the official language of the Demon Realm (which I named ‘Devil’s Tongue’), but many classes are also offered in other languages found throughout the Demon and Human Realms (I HC that through prior unregulated travel to and from the HR that many common HR languages had taken hold in areas of the DR).

There’s no real “completing” or graduating RAD. You can take higher and/or more specialized classes as you pass classes.

You can become certified/ranked/qualified through taking certain class paths, however, but these need to be maintained.

Newcomers are given an entrance placement exam and current students are routinely reassessed for proficiency, sending them back for remedial classes as needed.

I don’t believe for a second that Diavolo, Barbatos, and Lucifer are “students” and actively taking classes (possibly ones here and there on whims). They are far too busy actually running and managing things. The “Student Council” is far more a governing body of the students and RAD matters. There doesn’t appear to be any other RAD governing body (like a board or headmaster or principal).

I think Lucifer makes his Brothers take a minimum of classes as ambassadors of Diavolo’s program/vision to provide a presence at the RAD but also to ensure that they are striving to better themselves. And to give them that much less time to get into trouble.

Diavolo is Student Council President by simple virtue that he created it. I think it’s possible that once the RAD lifts off the way he truly wants it to as a unifying hub between the three realms that he and the rest of the council will step back and allow for a more democratic voting process for council president and council members.

He may stay on as a kind of principal or director that the Student Council would then report to for a time after that before then also handing off that position.

While Celestial and Demon Realm leaders choose their own respective exchange students to send to the other realms, the Human Realm (which lacks a central leader or governing body [magic or otherwise]) candidates are magically chosen (maybe a la Goblet of Fire spitting out a number of qualified names? lol) at random after certain criteria are accounted for and then Diavolo and Michael pick from the proposed candidates.

Diavolo uses the experience and input gleaned from each new rotation of exchange students to better adapt the RAD and the Devildom to their human and angel visitors.

Things like ensuring that the RAD cafeteria has human-safe options.

I HC that he takes this further to establish laws like having clear warning labels on all pre-packaged foods for known detrimental effects on humans, etc.

Though even though they’re there (like on the Lunatic Pudding), even he isn’t the most diligent about checking before attempting to feed his human exchange student.

Given Evie’s very specific dietary needs, maybe he’d go as far as to ensure the RAD cafeteria options all have ingredient lists available.

One of Evie’s chief complaints at first is that there’s no handbook or crash course for humans on adjusting to life in the Devildom (and there likely does not exist the opposite for other exchange students, either). Without constantly asking someone, she doesn’t know what foods are safe or dangerous to eat.

In the scheme of things, the RAD is still very new and novel in the Demon Realm.

As such, I HC that many demons are still very skeptical of it and Diavolo’s goals. There may even be other schools in the Demon Realm at large that are considered prestigious and “better” than the RAD simply because they have the established tradition and age. However, because it is Diavolo’s pet project and he’s the soon to be King, many nobles/upper class demons would still be taking advantage of attending the RAD and “getting in early” to gain points with Diavolo and possible future boasting rights.

I don’t think it’s yet at the point of where it needs to be choosy over admittance as it’s not yet anywhere near capacity. If you want to attend the RAD, you are welcomed. Tuition is free and there is assistance for those unable to afford things like the uniforms.

The Demon Realm and Devildom

In my HC, Demon Realm =/= Devildom. ‘Devildom’ refers only to Diavolo’s immediate kingdom within the greater Demon Realm. He’s still ruler beyond the kingdom walls, but it’s more like the Realm’s “capitol city.”

This makes it easier to imagine other cities and non-Devildom locations within the Demon Realm.

Those other cities would be home to other academies/schools, giving rise to the various sports and academic teams that may visit RAD for events.

The Celestial Realm would be ruled similarly, but the Human Realm, being the baby of the three, I HC as still very much finding its own legs. Here, the Human Realm doesn’t have a central governing body at all, but is broken into the many factions we’re more familiar with. As such, there are many magical bodies of governance over their own regions/peoples and not a whole lot in the way of unified standards beyond magic and magical beings as a whole being kept secret from the rest of humanity.

Because of this, the HR doesn’t have much say in its own exchange students. The demon and angel students sent to the HR are very much acting as agents gauging how to best establish some kind of unification with the HR (or that’s at least what Diavolo has charged the demon exchange students with working towards). The students to the HR likely normally have longer stays by virtue of them being immortal. Human exchange students are normally given a year’s stay in their respective realm as they often do want to return home at some point and because they normally have much shorter life spans.

The other levels of Hell have their own proxy-rulers (lords) that govern in Diavolo’s stead and each level is completely different from the next. It’s apparently technically possible to walk between them, but I hear ‘level’ and I get the image of, like, planes floating over each other, the top most being the first level you could descend to from the Human Realm and the bottom most being the plane with the Devildom. Maybe “walking” would consist of walking to the edge of each one and finding a way down to the next, smaller plane (or up to the next, larger plane).

Flat Earth confirmed. Y’know, maybe demons visiting the Human Realm got really confused over how the Earth is round when the Demon Realm planes have distinct edges (maybe the CR does too) and sparked the whole flat earth ‘debate.’ I was gonna write something about how Demons may not have even been to space (...do they have Space?) with their technological level and had to remind myself that we had rockets before the first Gameboys and way before the modern cellphone. Probably harder to reverse engineer a working rocketship, though, haha. Or maybe a/some demons outright told humans the Demon Realm has edges/isn’t round like Earth and someone took that completely the wrong way.

Someone write about space demons.

Maybe the first level is the largest and they get progressively smaller, with the Devildom plane being the smallest. Weaker level demons may make up the majority of the first plane and as they progress towards the Devildom plane, there are more higher status, stronger demons. Weak level demons would be common and strong level demons (like the Brothers and various Devildom nobility) would be far less common. There are no laws preventing demons from moving between the planes - it would be more ‘you can go to another plane if you can get there, but then you also have to be able to survive there or you’ll, you know...die.’

More extreme weather events occur the lower down in Hell you go. That’s why we get events for bizarre weather in the Devildom so often.

It’s canon that the Demon Realm (and likely the Celestial Realm) is much less technologically advanced than the Human Realm. This could be due to the DM/CR having much more of a reliance on magic and therefore less of a reason to develop tech, of which they likely both take frequent inspiration from the HR (if not outright adapting HR technology when they can). It could also be due to angels and demons being immortal - time is on a much longer scale to them so they don’t have some of the same innovative drives as humans (who can do astounding things under the duress of time and life). This is the basis for me throwing Evie at the Devildom’s ancient utilities infrastructure (much of which will be/is based on my own experience in the industry).

While the Brothers help Diavolo run the RAD, I think he’d have other kingdom/personal advisors for Devildom and Demon Realm governance (though the RAD also seems like it could outright be Diavolo’s version of his main governing body that just happens to also have school functions). With as busy and drowning in paperwork as Lucifer is, he may also be advising on this with how close he is to Diavolo.

The Brothers seem to have other higher level jobs/duties (like Levi being a/the(?) Grand Admiral of Hell’s Navy), but I get the impression that they are often circumstantial and not constant, which lands them taking random jobs here and there at places like Hell’s Kitchen and The Fall. Though with being immortal, job hopping is probably a frequent, normal thing for demons.

I’ve clashed a few real-world governing systems together to create the idea of various Bureaus, how they’re run, and the hierarchy of who they report to.

Like the Energy, Resources & Utilities Bureau that Evie ends up interning at.

Ex: The Bureau Director (in this case, Director Thrallhammer) heads the Utilities Bureau Board. The Director then reports directly to Diavolo.

The Chief of X (Finance, Field Operations, etc) then reports to the Director. (Not to be confused with terms like CEO/CFO/COO).

Special project/interest committees may then form from various groups of Board members.

I think that major retail spots may strive to advertise themselves as more (compared to the rest of the DR) technologically “modern.” I designed the main mall in my fic to be like a combination of the standard Devildom architecture but with heavy influence from the US 90s aesthetic (weird shapes, bright colors, questionable patterns!). So to MC/Evie, it would almost feel like taking an uncanny step back in time even though it’s perceived as modern, even “fresh” in the DR.

However, places like Majolish and The Fall rely more on a “modern magic” aesthetic (and less on non-magic-tech overall) and end up looking more modern/advanced to the MC/Evie (and more towards what they would expect).

By canon, in the Demon Realm, there is no sun, the day progresses in various shades of dark (the CR is the opposite in that the sun is always shining and there is no dark night).

HC: So make sure your human is getting enough vitamin D and other supplements! Diavolo keeps a doctor on retainer who’s more well-versed in human health and anatomy than most other DR doctors/healers, but they probably still aren’t on par with a good HR doctor for knowing human ailments. I would bet that many human (and angel) exchange students begin going through a kind of depression at some point due to lack of enough sunlight.

It’s discussed at some point in the lore that mushrooms and some plants in the Demon Realm contain far more vitamin D to make up for the lack of sunlight which is why Demon Realm cuisine is heavier on them.

Maybe fungus is more palatable and varied due to a much larger industry of growing it, but you might be stuck with supplements if you’re the exchange student who finds mushrooms unpalatable. :(

Maybe demon exchange students to the CR have the opposite problem with too much sunlight being harmful to them in the longterm?

The (physical being?) relationship between demons and angels is pretty unknown/vague in OM canon.

What is known: Angels can “fall” and turn into demons. Whether that’s literal or metaphorical, idk. The Brothers got kicked out of/”fell” from the Celestial Realm, transforming from angels to demons. That leads to the following different paths of my further speculation:

1. They are two sides of the same coin when one looks at their religious inspiration, with at least some population of demons forming from fallen angels and the demon Realm/”Hell” being created after the fall of the first angels and/or spirits (well before the Brothers fell). The Demon Realm possibly being created from a corrupted form or part of the Celestial Realm.

This also opens the theory of the Human Realm being created “in the image of” the Celestial Realm, further pulling from religious inspiration.

2. Or they formed independently in completely separate but ostensibly adjacent Realms. Angels can become demons from losing their holy magic, and I guess their bodies “falling” to or being corrupted by the influence of Demon Realm magic.

Question: can the reverse happen and demons become angels in this scenario?

Lesson 30 discusses how the Celestial and Demon Realms came into existence separately at the same time (I stumbled on this after writing this portion).

But doesn’t entirely discount all of speculation 1.

Angels and demons aren’t the black and white “good and evil” as many people view them. In the world of OM, they’re mostly treated as different beings with drama between them and possibly different types of magic.

They can’t really have different Realm-level sources of magic or angels and humans wouldn’t be able to use their form of magic in the Demon Realm. MC learns magic while in the DR and Solomon frequently uses magic, so unless what they’re learning and using is solely “Demon Realm” magic, the source for magic is universal. There may be things preventing certain types of that magic from being used in the opposite Realm and/or a person’s link to that specific magic can be severed (fallen angels losing their holy magic).

From Simeon’s story arc, we learn that angels can be stripped of their powers (banished to the Human Realm), and seemingly become human, too. So there’s some kind of further change that happens when they are banished to the Demon Realm - either in general with angels becoming demons or uniquely with the Brothers and possibly something Diavolo or the prior Demon King did for/to them. Maybe being stripped of ‘being’ an angel makes them vulnerable to DR magic that influences them. (I am not quite this far in the main story though because I’ve been slacking due to the constant events >.>)

I’ll dig more into the CR stuff in another post since I have dived into that side quite as much yet.

Hello there! Love your fic, got to the chapter where Kaien reunited with Rukia. Found your tumblr, saw you answered questions, and here's one I thought I'd get your two cents on.

Do you think Kaien knew that Rukia had a crush on him? He's a pretty smart guy so I don't think he wouldn't have noticed, just ignored it because he saw Rukia as a protégé/subordinate/little sister. I honestly think he filled in a supportive brother role (as much as he could given he was still her direct superior) for Rukia since at the time Byakuya was still very emotionally constipated. But given it was the first bit of support Rukia had gotten in ages, no wonder she latched on quick.

Although, if guys like Kaien are Rukia's type, he has a very available younger cousin...

Good morning! I'm glad you've enjoyed it so far. Writing their reunion(s) was fun and I hope you continue to enjoy what's in store for the future.

Oh, Kaien definitely knew about it. As a Lieutenant and generally a very social affable guy, Kaien strikes me as a student of human behaviour.

I wager he understood that Rukia's attachment to him stems from her extreme loneliness brought upon by her circumstances; an Inuzuri street rat brought into nobility by an adopted brother whom evidently only did so because she resembled his late wife.

Already that's an off-putting situation and enforces a message that she herself is not valued, only her appearance is. That, and her closest friend, her brother she'd grown up with, all but told her to go when she's already struggling to fit in during every day life.

So Kaien, the first safe harbour in this tumultuous whirlwind of changing circumstance, is someone she'd latch onto instantly. Especially since he doesn't give to licks or a toss about her new nobility - and the Shiba canonically don't buy into that crap either. In his eyes, she's a new raw recruit who failed to greet him properly and needed a kick up the ass to be reminded who's in charge.

He went out of his way to give her solo remedial lessons to cover the things she missed at the Academy thanks to her early graduation; teaching her how to fight, how to commune with and activate her Zanpakutou, and freely offering her guidance and reassurance when she was feeling low or depressed.

How could Rukia not fall a little in love with him for that kindness alone? (helps that he's super easy on the eyes too. ;) )

From his side of things, I figure Kaien saw her as a mix of protégé, little sister and I'd even so far as to say daughter, depending how much older he is.

Had Kaien not died when he did, I think he would've successfully broken Rukia out of her shell and helped her overcome that loneliness to find a place in the 13th.

(Though you have to wonder if some in the 13th blamed her for Kaien's death despite the circumstances being what they were.)

And since ya brought it up; I mean... Kukaku's planning on recognizing that same 'veryavailable younger cousin' as an official member of the Shiba, and the Kuchiki and Shiba could - for whatever reason - require a marriage pact to seal an alliance... you never know~! (I jest)

Spark academic/rank flowchart

Made this while procrastinating on some revision lol but this is a rough view of how the school system + promotions in the Spark world work! A lot of my notes for the fic are worldbuilding and I hope to cover most of it in the actual fic but I’m also aware some of this stuff is kinda. Superfluous detail 😅😅😅

This system I do intend to expand upon in the actual fic at some point but it isn’t a spoiler by any means so this is really just to give the ppl who check this tumblr a head start on understanding some of the details of the world! I’m also gonna reserve the right to maybe tweak some details of this system later on but I’ll update this post if I do :] (also pls excuse my handwriting I was too lazy to type it all up lmao)

Aptitude test: ~6 years old, required for entry into any shinobi academy (the Academy isn’t the only academy in Konoha, just the most famous - will expand on this later in the fic!). These aptitude tests are more for non-clan kids than clan kids - they measure your chakra control + reserves to see if you could really make it as a ninja. Clan kids typically meet this criteria easily, the tests are more to catch potentially gifted civilian kids who otherwise wouldn’t become shinobi

General studies: 6-12 years old, essentially what we see in canon: students are taught basics skills in all disciplines with very little ability to specialise yet

Specialised studies: 12-16 years old. This is where for example Sakura and Kakashi took the module “Seals and their History”. Students would begin to separate out more here into their future roles, e.g. more combat focused vs support

Genin: graduate at 16 years old. The rank of your teacher is based on your grades at the academy: Kakashi for example states that Sakura performed very well and was assigned a jōnin teacher. Someone who performed less well would be assigned a chūnin teacher and then below that they would enter the genin corps where they wouldn’t really be assigned an official teacher. This is also an indicator of how far up the ranks they’re really expected to go - a jōnin teacher means you’re likely to rise through the ranks quite quickly meanwhile the highest someone could expect to obtain from the genin corps is chūnin really. Here nepotism strikes again: clan kids will pretty consistently get either chūnin or jōnin teachers

Chūnin: in the fic, Sakura was offered a promotion after only 2 years but it would typically take quite some time longer (though as someone with a jōnin teacher this wasn’t unheard of). The norm is that they are promoted through recommendation but a few would be promoted by taking part in the chūnin exams - that’s typically reserved however for the best of the best who will represent their village in the exams

Jōnin/special jōnin: as in canon, a special jōnin is a kind of inbetween rank for someone with high skills in one area but not well rounded enough to gain the rank of jōnin. If you’re given the rank of special jōnin however it is pretty likely you aren’t going to then achieve the rank of jōnin - if you were then higher ups would likely wait before recommending you to jump straight from chūnin to jōnin

ANBU: organisation, not rank, but typically hold ranks from chūnin to jōnin. Their commander is considered above your average jōnin but below both council and jōnin commander

Jōnin commander: basically no. 2 in the village to the Hokage and is the biggest indicator of who will next get the hat - if the Hokage for example died suddenly the jōnin commander would act as an interim leader. Kakashi currently holds this position (which explains why Sakura was so shocked to see him in the hospital - it was basically like the deputy prime minster suddenly dropped in on her lmao)

Council: Power equal to that of a jōnin commander though usually hold just the rank of jōnin or, sometimes, special jōnin. Can be appointed both by the Hokage and recommendation (though a significant number of people must recommend them). Don’t really change much during Hokage transitions (UK ppl think I guess House of Lords?)

Hokage: the Big Dog, the Head Honcho. Appointed by the council and the Daimyo, although the latter doesn’t really have much of a say in it (again UK ppl think royal family approving prime minster: technically allowed to say no but it is just a formality atp). Sarutobi Hiruzen is the 7th Hokage (and also the 9th if we consider him taking over after the 8th again - and yes, before you ask, I am playing with the history here >:] ). Long since rumoured he is soon to retire for a second time and have Kakashi takeover - but Kakashi isn’t the only candidate for the job.....;)

NOT SHOWN:

Konoha military police: like ANBU it is an organisation, not a rank. And also like the ANBU commander, the commander of the police is considered higher than your typical jōnin but lower than the jōnin commander. Though their commander is chosen from within the organisation NOT by the Hokage There’s a few other groups I’ve left out (e.g. how medics fit into all this) bc this would get WAY too confusing if I included everyone, but this should give a good overview of who fits in where and a little teaser of how power is distributed towards the top

Summary: League of Extraordinary Gentleman/Vampire AU;

Within the FBI there is a specialized team full of an elite selection of people. Unique individuals with very particular skill sets. And their job is to take the unusual cases: the ones that need to not only be solved, but are undetermined if the unsub is human, or something else entirely.

In a world filled with Vampires, non-human creatures, and subspecies unknown, there is only enough information to have them vaguely regulated. Rules that are so easily, and violently broken, all while hidden in plain sight among the unsuspecting public. Unrivaled for eons.

That’s where the BAU comes in.

(TW/CW: This is pretty tame, Emily is just a little intense and eager because Spencer is... well, Spencer, and when she realizes all he can do? Oh she is chomping at the bit. Some trance-like things and witchy stuff and Hotch being territorial without being able to admit it.)

(the story so far/what you need to know for this clip at least: this takes place in chapter 02, what you will all see on Saturday evening, and this version is insanely unpolished (I’m about to go through and fix it up and give it a good make-over) but basically this is the first time Spencer is meeting Emily Prentiss and it makes... an impression. Also, Emily has been at the BAU for about 0.2 seconds and Hotch is already done with her. The sibling energy I love to see. It’s also hella long, as an apology for missing last week and being a day late. All you’ve missed is Spencer about ran into Emily turning a corner and she saved him from spilling his case files and coffee all over the floor. Now they are talking)

“I apologize, I thought you were an intern or still in the academy.”

“It’s alright, everyone does,” Spencer says without taking offense. He wouldn’t have gotten where he was or lasted very long if he did; however, if he had a nickel for every time someone had been surprised by his age, he’d be as rich as Father Rossi. His full hands actually aids him as he mentions, “I don’t usually shake hands with people, so don’t think me rude. I’m Dr. Spencer Reid.” He offers her a smile in exchange, and it is mirrored on her face just as her surprise kicks up another notch.

“Doctor, my my I am in for a trip on this team, aren’t I?” she laughs, and it’s a melodic thing that stretches over an expanse of time and history. Ballrooms in Russia and palors of France, Elizabethan and the roaring 20’s and everything in between all rolled into one. He’s not sure how he sees it, an impossible thing, but he can read it like a book and that must have something to do with what she is. “Emily Prentiss, it is a remarkable pleasure to meet you Dr. Reid. Now, I have to ask--” her tone is so charming and playful and probing he barely notices the nuance, “And I’m sure it’s taboo around here, but I have to know -- your regeneration process. Tell me what it is or what you do. You look so young.”

“I am young,” he states simply, finally stunned by a question he’s not usually asked.

“Yes, yes, we all can’t be a thousand years old like your fearless Vampire leader,” she waves off and Spencer’s eyes widen because… he hadn’t known Hotch was that old. Sure he’d said he’d been alive for the better part of a millennia, but he always said it like a hyperbole. A turn of phrase that’s off by a couple centuries. But --

A thousand years old.

That would put him…

God, that would put him alive, as a human, just before the start of The Crusades.

“Oh, did he keep that to himself? Oops, my bad. Pretend you don’t know. Anyway -- so are you a Shifter? Or use a particular spell? Oh, or is it a curse? I’m fascinated by curses, I don’t use them often myself but the rigidity of terms using a power so chaotic is just such a fun juxtaposition that I--”

“No, no, I’m… normal, human,” Spencer interrupts her, still the smallest bit shell-shocked, but now connects a few dots himself as she speaks. Realizes very suddenly that Ms. Prentiss appears ageless because she is ageless. She’s also a Witch. One of the broadest terms for subspecies categories, which really doesn’t do it justice. A Witch could be a number of things. Someone who uses magic and science and the very Earth itself paired with the spiritual planes to do impossible things. Witches are beings so powerful they should be uncategorizable. Something Spencer is fascinated by as well. He’s never met anyone like Emily. “I look young because I am young. I’m 27, I’ve only been with the BAU for the past three years. I’m a little excited to not be the newbie on the team any more,” he tries to joke, but Emily’s gaze has gone distant and sharp all at once.

“You’re only 27? And you’re a doctor?” She asks in clarification, Spencer nodding along each time. “You’ve been a doctor, since becoming an FBI agent?”

“Um, well -- I’m not a medical doctor. I do have three doctorates, though; in mathematics, chemistry, and engineering,” he finds himself shrinking a bit under her intensely interested gaze. “What?”

“Chemistry?” she asks, vaguely more distant.

“That was my first doctorate,” he murmurs back, not sure what has her looking so contemplative.

“You’ve achieved all of this: three doctorates, FBI agent, BAU -- in 27 years?” she questions, a grave yet wondrous sound.

“Technically I did all of that in 15 years. I graduated high school when I was 12,” he manages to do more than mumble, and Emily’s wide-eyed stare has him spewing forth information like it requires an explanation. “I have an eidetic memory, and I can read 20,000 words a minute, and my IQ is 187 so by human standards yes -- I’m a genius, and borderline on the advanced brain developments scale. But I’m still human. Nothing paranormal or extraordinary.”

The pause that follows is palpable.

“Oh,” she says in an exhale, “Oh, you young soul. You have no idea, do you? What you are capable of...” She tilts her head as she steps closer and Spencer is very suddenly aware that he’s not sure she’s blinked since they started speaking about his qualifications. What he can do, how he got to where he is. No one usually shows this much interest, he makes them uncomfortable for reasons he doesn’t always understand.

Emily doesn’t look uncomfortable, she looks… hungry.

“You are so very, very extraordinary. Exceptional, really. Look at all of what you’ve accomplished with just 15 years of life.” That astonished sound again, like she can’t believe her luck--

And then she’s in his space, gaze boring into his, and Spencer can see galaxies in the depth of her eyes. His breath stolen from him and feet rooted to the floor. So he doesn’t step away as she leans just the smallest bit closer, words resonating with echoes across ages.

“Imagine what you could do with a thousand.”

“Prentiss,” the deep voice of Hotch’s monotone (edged in something vaguely aggressive, and more than a little aggravated) breaks through their moment. The trance fading like a fog from Spencer’s eyes. “No recruiting. It’s in your contract.”

“You have such a gift, it’s a shame to waste it,” Emily whispers in a rush as Hotch approaches them from down the hall. More earnest than intimidating, now.

“Prentiss!”

“Think about it,” she winks, and then turns to give Hotch a smile that’s all teeth so sharp she resembles a shark. “Oh, what a sour face. What’s wrong? Were you planning on asking him first? You snooze, you lose.”

“Conference room,” he instructs, pointing the way Spencer had just come. “Team meeting in 20 minutes. Try not to summon anything between here and there.” She sticks her tongue out at him childishly as she leaves, and sends a quirk of a smile Spencer’s direction that shifts her whole expression into something comically entertained. He’s never seen Hotch interact with someone like this, like they were… familiar, even exasperatingly so. The closest in comparison is probably Father Rossi. But this is less like old friends and more like sibling rivalry.

The space Emily had just vacated is suddenly filled with Hotch, an overwhelmingly welcomed presence and it eases the tension out of Spencer’s spine and shoulders that he hadn’t even realized was there.

“Are you okay?” he asks, low and quiet. They’re the only ones in the hallway, but secrecy is a hard habit to break.

Spencer nods, still gaining his bearings once more. “I think so. That didn’t feel like hypnotism. I don’t know what that was.”

“Prentiss doesn’t manipulate minds or the wills of other people,” Hotch tells him, which is soothing if not for the foreboding question of what just occurred. “She doesn’t need to. She can do a lot of things: change her face, her voice, make illusions and talk circles around anyone -- even you.” Spencer looks up to him at that, aware that his level of intelligence is the only thing that keeps him safe from JJ or Hotch’s influence. His mind can’t be bent, or tricked.

“Then what was she doing? I felt compelled but… not against my will. What was that?” he asks, also quiet but much more high in pitch as his confusion turns his voice to a winded sound.

Hotch’s thin, stern frown does nothing to alleviate the apprehension caught up in his chest like a bad cold.

“Possibility,” he states, grim and not liking that Spencer had fallen prey to such a short moment with Emily Prentiss and her promise of what her craft could do for him. Hotch is well aware that Spencer’s gift of soaking up every speck on information he’s given like a sponge isn’t something to let wither and die like so many before him. There’s so much he could do with an infinite life, such as his and Emily’s, but the curse of living forever alone is not something to be taken lightly. And not to be decided by someone who still has so much more life to live unaided by other forces.

However, Emily was right about one thing. Hotch can’t deny that he’s thought about it. More than considered it as a definite possibility.

Shannon Foraker Headcanon

Fanart of Shannon, in a bit of a uniform mashup, because I was tired when I drew this. She's not wearing her hat because she doesn't enjoy wearing such things.

I'm new to tumblr, so I'm still learning how to use this site.

I'm working on a headcanon for the backstory for this Honorverse character I'm obsessed with.

Here's some stuff from my notes (more will come later).

Shannon's born 1875 PD, because in her first appearance in Flag in Exile, she sounds young. I wanted to make her much younger than Honor.

She's got two cousins in the SDF, Eimear and Orla.

Eimear was born 1878 PD, and Orla's born 1880 PD. The year Duchess Orla Foraker's born, the PRH government takes over the system.

Things aren't good, for the cousins. Officially, the nobles have to stop using their titles, and Shannon stops getting training on how to be a good royal. This will be an issue, as an adult. The people of Elvana don't like the annexation, and there's some minor resistance.

1896 PD Shannon graduates SDF academy at 21, and makes Ensign by end of year.

1899 PD Eimear graduates SDF academy at 21, and makes Ensign by end of year.

Both girls are addressed with ma'am, however when no people from the PRH's government, or informers are around, both get addressed as milady, which makes them, especially Eimear (who's too young to remember pre-annexation life) uncomfortable, until they get used to it.

1900 PD On Basilisk Station happens Shannon is a full Lieutenant in the SDF, and gets stolen by the PRH.

While officially, these officers are "loaners", everyone knows that the PRH steals officers for good, and retrains and demotes them. Under the Republic of Haven, things are fixed, so the officers aren't demoted and are treated much better, but under the PRH, it was a second-class status.

Shannon hacks her officer file for her own safety, as it's not safe to have your file say that you're really Grand Duchess Shannon Foraker of Elvana under the PRH. This saves her life under the Committee, later. Eimear is an Ensign in the SDF, and doing well. Orla is at the SDF's Academy.

1901 PD Orla graduates from the SDF Academy and makes Ensign by very early 1902 1902 PD Eimear is stolen as a Lieutenant, like her older cousin. 1903 PD The Honor of The Queen happens Shannon graduates from the accelerated 3 year program PN Officer Academy.

Howdy, Y'all! So this is bound to be a super long post, one because I am super excited to find some more penpals, and two because I can’t ever do anything half way! So to sum up some of it I’m a seventeen year old ADHD Legal Studies college senior in Arkansas with a background in Political Science (USA) addicted to coffee looking for some penpals!

I’m currently sitting under the sunrise daydreaming up some new plots for a couple of stories I'm probably going to end up starting. In the process, I obviously started wondering deeper into the cosmos and questioning everything about life, for example, with the way 2020 is going, what's the probability of the zombie apocalypse breaking out? This pondering has lead me here, searching for some friends that hold the intellectual capability to have a serious not serious conversation, because in my opinion penpals and snail mailers are some of the greatest friends yet!

My name is Allison, though I’ve got a whole slew of nicknames that you could pick from if Allison is too much of a hassle ;D! Allie, Elle, and Allis being a few of them!

I’m your normal run-of-the-mill College student, besides the fact that I’m a college senior at seventeen and I graduated high school at thirteen! I’m studying Law, though I have a degree in political science as well! For reference, I will be turning eighteen within a month.

My goals in life include bringing light to the corruption and corrupted in politics and government, helping as many people as possible to better their lives and improve their state of living, and being as much happiness and joy to the world as I reasonably can! My career goals include achieving all the above through politics, public speaking, corporate ventures, and government!

So yeah, I’m a pretty ambitious gal, to the point that some people have claimed I’m overbearing and too interested in myself! While I might come across as overbearing or self-interested, I’m one of the most selfless people I know, and on top of that, I try to be as self-aware as possible so that I can continue to emotionally, intellectually, mentally, and physically improve myself! One of my motos in life is “to know where you're going you must first know where you’ve been”! Plus... I’ve just got a really really big personality!!

Let’s see, I am a Sagittarius, ENFP-t, and enneagram of 8! I am also a Slytherin! In my professional life, I like to compare myself to a much nicer version of Katerina Petrova… or Clarke Griffin (if you ignore the manipulative and kinda bitchy part of both… sometimes)! Though in my private life I tend to take on more of a child-like nature, in the sense of being cheerful, energetic, always curious, and kinda oblivious in certain situations! I do tend to be a bit bratty, blunt, and bossy though!

Moral of the story, you can probably expect some rambling and super cute designs slash miscellaneous things in your letter if we go the snail mail route!

I kinda have some pretty diverse and interesting taste when it comes to things I enjoy! I like to think I have the interests of an elderly person and personality of a child, but you can be the judge of that!

* I love politics, linguistics, diplomacy, history, stock markets, real estate, law, and philosophy!

* Hiking and swimming are probably two of my favorite outdoorsy activities!

* I adore the gun range, it is probably one of my favorite places to go (after malls and libraries)! Very American of me.... I know 😀

* Beekeeping is something I’ve been doing since I was a child, I currently have over four-thousand hives!

* Reading, writing, and painting are also some of my favorite things to do!

I’m a painter, who absolutely loves bright colors (I.e pink and yellow)! I don’t particularly have a favorite music genre, from rock to country and pop to opera/classical I’ll listen to anything (it all depends on mood)!

I like to consider myself the reigning queen of over-energetic happy-go-lucky bubbly people! *Bow down peasants!* Some people have claimed I’ve got major crackhead energy, without the crack! I just blame it on my caffeine addiction paired with really really bad ADHD!

I’m a bit of a girly girl, with a love for the preppy look, and a love for hair bows and leather jackets! I love dancing in the rain, going to parks, blowing bubbles, watching Disney, playing make-believe or whatever, and acting like I’m high on sugar 9/10! I mentioned I had a childish personality, though as I said, some people find it overwhelming!

I love reading and writing (both originals and fanfics... yeah I’m a groupie when it comes to tv/movie/book fanfics)! Currently, I’ve been really invested in fiction works, I’m nearly finished with the CL Stone Academy Ghostbird series (It's a reverse harem for those that don't know, I highly suggest it), which I started last week! Though I obviously have been keeping up with my lovely textbook readings and such (seeing as this week is Midterms and all)!

Oh!! I almost forgot I know three languages (not including English)! Spanish, French, and Russian! Though I’ve never had anyone to use the languages with, and I’m still in the process of learning Russian!

Side note, I'm a full-time college student that has multiple entrepreneurial businesses that I run, so I'm fairly busy! But I'm also super chatty and talkative, so there's that!

As for what I’m looking for! I’d love a best friend, someone that can put up with my amazingly hectic self, while also being able to hole and intelligent conversation.

I’m cool with an email pen-pal, a messaging pen-pal, or a snail mail pen-pal! Admittedly I’m currently in a crafty mood, specifically because the holidays, so snail mailing is probably at the top of my list at the moment! I just moved to a new location, which has been a blast, mountain people are so super sweet (coming from someone who grew up in the city) and I’ve officially managed to get my address and everything squared away! So that should be spectacular!

Age and gender identification don’t really matter to me, though I do connect with people older than myself a tad bit easier because my interests normally don’t line up with my peers! Similarly, people who have life goals, ambitions, and/or self-aware people are a serious weakness of mine, what can I say, I'm a sapiosexual, both in regards to romantic relationships and friendships, the brain is the most beautiful part of the human. Similarly in that fashion, I am also demisexual and pansexual.

I'm looking for something long-term, whenever I start something I pour 100% into it, and I expect 100% back! My time is a delicate thing, and even though I'm ridiculously busy I love sharing it with others! I would also be interested in exchanging photos early on with people that pique my interest, both for verification purposes, and because I prefer to put a face to a name. Similarly, your location does not particularly matter, domestic or international pen pals are welcome! I would love to be able to put some of my languages to use, however, but all cultures are welcome!

here are some thoughts from my (first, somewhat late) watch of 10.15!

we start off with adam intimidating a minion and threatening his life while they’re reburying three bodies. cool. this is totally something he can come back from.

joanna! danny’s mystery woman has a name! i very vaguely caught some annoyance/confusion about her name here on tumblr because apparently somewhere else (outside of the episodes, i assume?) she’d been called something else, if i understood correctly? but seeing as i missed most of that, i’m honestly just glad she has a name now.

also! joanna texting her sister/friend (i don’t really know who she is for sure?) that she met a guy at a bar - thank god, tbh, because last episode it looked like she just randomly had sex with a stranger (which is fine) and then got into his car to let him drive her home (which is not fine, because we may know danny is an okay guy, but she had no earthly way of knowing that).

“it wasn’t your fault. you did everything you could. it means a lot to me that you’re here.” kudos to sister/friend for not falling into the trap of blaming danny and piling onto his guilt subplot!

STEVE is WAITING OUTSIDE when danny leaves the morgue, oh god. that makes total sense and i’m glad for it, but i somehow didn’t expect them to show that.

steve: “you wanna talk about it?” nothing super clever to say here, but it just make me really, really happy every single time steve asks danny if he wants to talk about something (or just pushes him into it, ocassionally) because!! that’s good!! that’s healthy!! that’s a really good friendship, and i’m proud of steve. (on a slightly related note, i’ve been watching a lot of 9-1-1 and reading some fic and while a lot of that fic is really fun, i kind of feel like many of the writers in that fandom give eddie at least double the capability to deal with emotional turmoil in himself or others that he is shown to have in canon. eddie diaz is basically what danny sometimes accuses steve of being, only eddie is actually closed off and struggling with repressing everything he ever feels that much, and steve has by this point had years to learn healthier ways of coping and he is not that person anymore, at all. he knows how to talk about emotions and he does it, too, and the funny thing is that i’m pretty sure he learned a lot of that by making danny talk to him about danny’s emotions, which steve did all the time right from the very start because he cares about danny and wants him to be mentally happy and healthy, and tl;dr, steve and danny’s friendship makes them both happier, more emotionally stable people and that makes me emotional.)

tani teaching a class at the police academy and bonnie (grover’s niece) absolutely acing all her classes and tani and bonnie hanging out and getting lunch together and tani subtly mentoring bonnie IS ALL VERY GOOD.

fdjfkdjkfd oh god. i was so happy with this scene and then suddenly bonnie has a boyfriend and it’s the dude who buried bodies with adam a moment ago. so... is he a bad guy (i hope not, because i’m already a little tired at the idea of another cool female character getting in trouble all the time because she’s dating yakuza and that’s for some reason the most interesting thing the writers could think to do with her), or is he undercover? is adam undercover? are they BOTH undercover but they don’t know it about the other guy so they just keep committing crimes to look like badass criminals when really they’re just both trying to catch the other in a seriously bad crime?

oh god, there’s this whole scene with the academy recruits on the shooting range and tani keeps drilling them on shooting faster (which i have... thoughts about, too, but let’s not get into that) and they make it really explicit that bonnie is the fastest and definitely faster than her boyfriend and this, uh, really looks like foreshadowing for bonnie ending up having to draw her weapon on the boyfriend at some point.

adam to lou: “thanks for the coffee date.” i must say, very unexpected ship they’re pushing now. :p

adam: [starts saying things, possibly making up excuses] lou: “no, no, come on, you don’t have to explain anything to me.” let the man talk, lou!!! if you don’t want to hear it, i do.

ahhhh, lou is keeping adam occupied while steve searches adam’s apartment. things are making more sense now. (though lou does call steve to tell him to wrap things up like a minute after his coffee date with adam started, and also at most a dozen feet away from adam where chances are definitely above zero of adam being able to hear him, fjdkdf.)

steve had “a feeling” about adam. no need to be so jealous, danny.

wait, wait, adam is back on five-0? i... they probably showed or mentioned that in a recent episode, i think, but apparently i’ve really just been turning my brain off during this subplot because i do not remember that at all. (this is why i like bingewatching things, because at least then i have a clearer picture of what happened in the episodes right before, gosh.)

danny: “... but the point is that if i was a human being...” love it. love the subtle implication that danny is not a human being, but in fact an alien from new jersey, which as we all know is in outer space.

bonnie’s boyfriend is not officially bonnie’s boyfriend yet and she thinks he might be seeing someone on the side, and this is sad because as viewers we all know that that someone IS ADAM (and three dead guys). just not like that, though. probably.

bonnie: [tells tani her potential bf has two phones] tani: “hm, okay. this one’s easy: run.” YES. PLEASE DO.

quinn!!! i was starting to wonder if this was one of those mysteriously quinn-less episodes.

oh nooo, bonnie sneaks around potential bf’s house and then STEPS ON A TWIG. c’mon, girl.

fdjkfd the guys catch her and now i remember that this episode description said she was going to get kidnapped and adam would help get her back. this will be... interesting.

quinn’s awkward face while lou is yelling in surprise about bonnie having a boyfriend is absolute gold.

lou yells at tani for not telling him anything about the boyfriend yesterday but honestly, she does not deserve that.

also: all those dramatic shots on adam’s face, oh dear. is the rest of the team seeing that expression he has? are they seeing all these close-ups?

adam threatens his yakuza rival in an effort to help get bonnie back. is this supposed to be redemption for adam? i’m confused.

lou says it’s not tani’s fault and he apologizes! this is an episode of people realizing they shouldn’t put the blame on innocent bystanders (instead of one that attempts to heighten the drama by milking misplaced anger for all that it’s worth) and i like it.

siobhan has been tied up in some shed in the woods and endo (the potential boyfriend) is feeling bad about it but is unwilling to untie her, god. (quick detour, though: i’ve been wondering this since the beginning of the episode, but how is siobhan even at the hpd academy now? i was under the impression during her first appearance this season that she was in her last year of high school, so when did she even graduate?)

i do feel for endo (which i like! it’s cool to see a Bad Guy be not pure evil but believably conflicted), but leaving your almost-girlfriend in a cabin in the woods for your godfather to “take care of it” with a sad look and “i’m really sorry” is not the best of moves, my dude.

tani and quinn: we have good news! hpd intercepted endo and steve and lou are about to question him! adam: [sweats]

endo lies his ass off in interrogation which makes him interesting but also costs him a lot of sympathy points from my end.

lou pretty much assaults endo while he’s cuffed to a chair in the interrogation room. i get why these emotions make for good tv, but uh, hm, maybe five-0 should at some point consider a policy of not letting people who are personally involved in cases near suspects, because this does kind of seem to keep happening.

jfdkfd, adam confronts endo in lock-up, endo taunts him and says adam can’t tell anyone in five-0 what he knows because he’d have to tell them how he knows endo, the team finds out that endo has yakuza ties and go to confront endo about it and he’s gone. omfg, adam, how are you managing to fuck your own life up this effectively in such a short amount of time, after you fought all those years to get away from everything you’re doing now?

siobhan gets herself free!!! and then runs right into guys with guns outside the cabin, of course, because this is tv timing, but still, WELL DONE.

fdjkfdkjfd, adam’s brilliant plan to solve the situation is to call up the rival yakuza boss and threaten to kill his godson out of revenge. this is. this is maybe not a great idea.

adam: “in case you haven’t been paying attention, kenji, i’m not afraid of much these days.” oh adam, buddy, don’t brag about misplacing the entirety of your common sense.

the team is watching adam load endo into the back of a car on tape and it’s honestly kind of hilarious. steve asks danny how he would explain this and that’s hilarious, too, because they’re seeing their (ex-?)friend load a stolen suspect into a car to run off with him, thereby betraying all of them and everything they stand for, and steve is taking this opportunity to turn to danny and go “see, i was right”. fjdkfd.

steve’s gut says adam will come through for them in delivering siobhan, and we all know steve’s gut is secretly psychic, so that’s a spoiler. :p

and it does happen!!! i’m glad to see bonnie back in a safe place.

oh god. adam randomly appears from between the foilage to look serious and share a meaningful nod with steve. is he... is he officially on the other side now? they’re not still going to let him be part of five-0, are they?

domestic steve and danny in the(ir) kitchen!!! steve is giving eddie danny’s breakfast!!! and then there’s something about endo having hacked into hpd’s database, because of course they need to attach some ongoing threat to this, but honestly, who cares about plot when there’s “don’t shame my dog. i’m cooking you eggs, alright?” and danny saying steve doesn’t have to cook him eggs but steve already doing it anyway while danny is once again randomly sitting on the kitchen counter and steve cuts danny off before danny can request his eggs a little burned because steve already knows how danny likes his eggs, obviously, because steve is a stalker when it comes to danny. yes!! this is stuff i like a lot.

danny is saying he could probably get out of steve’s space soon and steve has the excuse of very intently (and yet somehow also very badly, it looks like) scrambling those eggs, but he’s also definitely, 100% avoiding looking at danny in that moment, and then he starts saying how there’s no paint yet and that’s bad and danny should stay. just. just move in together officially, you guys. just do it. nobody would be surprised. you know it would make both of you very happy. this is not even a ship thing, but just, oh my god, these two humans so clearly want to be in each other’s space and they keep coming up with excuses and getting this close to admitting that maybe neither of them wants danny to leave and then yelling at each other about eggs and how it’s not bacon day. it can be bacon day, steve. it could even be pancake day. it could be pancake day every day for the rest of your natural lives if you just told danny you wanted that.

overall, this was a very fun episode! i’m honestly just really happy with this season in general - quinn being added to the team does maybe not look like much progress on the subject of female characters, because she’s just one person, but there have been SO MANY scenes of her and tani together by now and genuinely, their friendship is healing my soul and watering my crops. i’m still not sure what to make of the adam subplot, but if they’re doing what it kind of looks like they’re doing - permanently putting him on the other side of the fence, back with the yakuza - that could actually be somewhat interesting. i’m just really, really scared that even after all of this they’re going to try to give him some kind of redemption arc that just has no chance of making sense anymore after everything that’s happened.

In this world, children are born as “blank slates” and given a typical childhood experience and allowed to mingle equally. As their minds develop, their roles begin to form, and by the time they are thirteen, every child will have a mark appear behind their right ear that will mark them as either a submissive or a Dominant. This is determined by some kind of spiritual inner force, everyone just wakes up one morning to find they’ve been marked. Their family has until they are eighteen to teach them what their new role will mean for them before the rules fully apply to them. At twenty-one they are required by law to attend a BDSM academy where their training for whatever role life has given them continues on a more serious, official level. Anyone that resists will be taken to a higher security academy by force. Once you’re at an academy, you can’t leave. Students remain at these academies until they graduate. Submissives can’t graduate without a claim, and they’re aged out of academy at 30– at which point unclaimed submissives are sent to the slave markets to be sold off before they’re too old to be trained to get the best years of service out of them.

In Ohio, the most prestigious boarding BDSM academy is located with its campus split into two; Dalton Academy for Dominants and McKinley Preparatory for Submissives. Each school has their own building but they are considered one campus, with a courtyard in between. In this world, many families are known in the world for breeding Dominance, and the Headmaster is from one of the most notoriously Dominant families. Because of his prowess, Dalton is known to mold infamously powerful people and McKinley is known to birth above average submissives. THE GLEE ACADEMY is the best of the best.

Kisekae Insights #11: Sea Princesses Part 1 (Introduction and Rider List)

You thought five months of Sea Princesses content wasn’t enough? Why don’t we make it six then? Oh, I’m sorry, you thought this was going to be one part like the other shows we’ve gone through so far? Oh no, the Sea Princesses series has so much significance in my project for a niche (and almost forgotten) series that it’s going to take three instalments to cover everything I want to cover.

I was planning to cover my versions of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger and Kamen Rider Decade first, but I’ve been so busy with other stuff that I haven’t had time to prepare those instalments ahead of time. Also, I thought it would be better to cover Sea Princesses while it’s still fresh in my mind. In case you didn’t know, Sea Princesses content has taken up the majority of my Tumblr posts in the last six months under the coronavirus lockdown; from April to June, I reposted my reviews of the cartoon series that I wrote in 2019, then from July to September, I fulfilled an item in my bucket list by translating and reviewing the books that inspired the cartoon series. You can check them out here.

In the next three instalments, I’m going to take a look at the involvement of Sea Princesses in my personal project, as well as share some theories about the series that I’ve implemented in my project and teased in my reviews.

A brief introduction

The first mention of Sea Princesses in my personal project was in 2010, when I assigned them warrior names like I did with the Flowertots. Unlike Lucky Star, however, whose characters were divided into five different clans, the characters of Sea Princesses form only one clan, namely the Uesugi clan. In the Moushouden Series, the Uesugi clan would also be known as the Salacian Army.

After being inspired by the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XI segment Night of the Dolphin, I drafted up some mock battle fixtures for a storyline named Salacia Rebellion. The storyline wouldn’t get made into actual stories until 2017 with Three Kingdoms Series 3.

Sure enough, the Sea Princesses made it into Doctor Who as well, crossing over with two sea-related animes. They had appearances in Series 7 Part 1 (the Salacian Time War arc) and the Next Gen Series (a two-parter in Series 8 and then a minor appearance in the Series 9 finale two-parter). In the Moushouden Series, they became Kamen Riders, which I’ll elaborate on later.

Regarding timelines

Most of this series’ involvement in my project is based on the timeline of the animated series. When I bought the books, I was hoping that I could implement them into the series as well, but I decided to stick to adapting the animated series because the timelines for them and the books are very different.

So what is the series’ timeframe in terms of this project? Officially, I decided that the events of the series would be set in 2004, the release year of the first book, assuming that everything in the series takes place in one year as there is no indication anywhere in the series that the class has moved up a grade. This means that the characters would have been born around 1996-1998. You can calculate for yourself how old they would be during the years my stories are set in.

Original characters

What would any adapted series be without any original element to them? There are four original characters that I’ve made, but one of them isn’t as “original” as you may think.

The Squid Princess: Squid Girl

You thought I couldn’t make an original character for this series with a character from another series? Haha Rider machine go brrrr.

Yes, that’s right, Squid Girl is, in fact, a Salacian. Her father, the Squid King, was killed by Maurice Mouseling at the fourth Battle of Kawanakajima in 2006. He was the first king to suggest an invasion of Dryland to prevent Drylanders from coming into Salacia. Initially, the other kings were not willing to join him, but they eventually warmed to his cause, given the damage the Drylanders were doing to the ocean. Following the Squid King’s death, his daughter went onto Dryland to take revenge, but she ended up in the wrong place and well, you know the rest if you know about her series.

Squid Girl was one of the two who worked behind the scenes with the Master to bring about the Salacian Rebellion of 2010. She is seen fighting Maurice during the final battle as she attempts to take revenge for her dead father. She also served at the catalyst for the group’s backup plan when the Salacians were defeated by the Dryland armies, eventually starting another conflict amongst the Drylanders before returning to her home at the Lemon Beach House.

In 2012, Squid Girl met the Fourth Doctor in an episode of his spinoff series before she became a companion of the Fifth Doctor, alongside Tsukasa Hiiragi in Series 6 Part 2 and Series 7 Part 1, and alongside Clara Oswald and Takeru Aizawa in the 50th Anniversary Series.

In 2018, Squid Girl was part of a faction of princesses who became Amazon Riders thanks to Narutaki and Nozama Pharmaceuticals. She gained the Neo Amazons Driver and fought as Kamen Rider Amazon Neo.

The Squid Girl anime also featured a girl named Kozue Tanabe, who is implied to be an octopus. She is only mentioned once in Three Kingdoms, but I stated that she was related to the Octopus Royal Family.

The Mermaid Prince: Zhuge Shu (and son, Zhuge Sōta)

Originally, I created this character in 2012 out of nowhere and it wasn’t until 2018 that I actually gave him a backstory. Believe it or not, this was going to be my answer to the Barracuda Kingdom saga until I thought better of it and kept it separate by making him the Mermaid Prince. He was also one of Hiroki’s echoes created when he split himself all over his timeline.

A long time ago, the Mermaid Kingdom was notorious for frequently breaking the First Law of Salacia, which stipulates that Salacians are not to be seen by Drylanders. This resulted in the other kingdoms turning on them, forcing the royal family onto Dryland. The Mermaid King transformed into Agito and fought with all his might, but was killed in battle. His daughter, the Mermaid Princess, was saved by a Drylander before they could hunt her down. They eventually got married and had a child named Seretao. When Seretao was still a baby, the Shark King invited the Mermaid Princess and her husband to discuss a treaty, but his real intention was to kill them.

Luckily, Seretao was left in the care of the Wolonggang Academy, the same academy where Parker trained when he was very little. Upon graduating, Seretao became a mercenary for hire and changed his name to Zhuge Shu (courtesy name Hutiao, made from separating the characters in his name – 虎 and 儵, the latter is made up of the characters 條 and 黑).

Sometime in 2005, one of his jobs led him to the city of Hiroki’s primary school army, where he overheard two girls plotting to kill him. He eventually managed to find Hiroki and tell him to escape to Honnōji, which only served to delay the inevitable.

Over the next few years, he became acquainted with Salacia and worked odd jobs both there and on Dryland. At one stage, he took on the name Magoichi Saika and fought for the Date Army, led by Doctor Eggman. He was the other person who worked with the Master to facilitate the Salacian Rebellion and he was also the Shark King’s strategist, supplying him with weapons and strategies.

Later on, after Squid Girl executed the backup plan, Zhuge Shu, now the leader of the Saika Renegades, defected to Parker’s army. Not much was seen of him, even after they disbanded, until the Salacian Time War in November 2012. Zhuge Shu meets Parker again and helps him set up a delta wave generator, which is actually a trigger that would fire the Harmony Signal once it was charged. Following the battle, Zhuge Shu was entrusted with Akeno Shiranui, a woman who Parker accidentally married following events that led him to see her true form as a mermaid. The two got married and had a baby boy named Zhuge Sōta, who was born in October 2013.

Salacian General: Lorah

Lorah is a Salacian general who fights as Kamen Rider TheBee, with his underlings, Hugo and Tata, fighting as Drake and Sasword. He isn’t known to be a part of any royal family (that never came to mind when I created this character), but given who his underlings are, you could argue that he is affiliated with the Turtle Royal Family.

At the end of his debut episode, Lorah would be revealed to be a Roidmude alongside Hugo, Tata and the goddess Salacia; Narutaki had kidnapped their templates and had some Roidmudes copy them so she could trigger the Global Freeze. After Narutaki’s plan was foiled, Lorah and the others were rescued and they continued fighting as Kamen Riders.

Characters and Riders

When I first implemented this series in 2010, I wasn’t able to include all the characters because I was unable to find or keep records of them at the time. All I had was the characters that had descriptions on the official website at the time, including Agostinha and Dinho, even though the former had no lines and the latter had no appearances (I thought he did at one point, but after watching both series, I was proven wrong). Naimo was also added as I did remember watching The Babysitters back then.

Jaune, Goldina, Flourison, Matilda, Veto, Caton and Caramelo, the “forgotten characters” (who had no descriptions), were implemented in 2017. The speculations I had for them weren’t added onto the wiki until 2019 for the sake of completeness.

The great thing about Sea Princesses having so many characters is that I can make armies of Riders out of them. The characters’ Rider designations are derived from Ryuki, Hibiki, Kabuto, Agito and Amazons. Most of the Riders were featured in Kamen Rider Decade, while some additional Riders were added in Soulbound Series 3 and 4 because god, I can’t stop thinking about Rider War storylines with them. The Salacian Riders are split up into factions typically consisting of Riders from one series.
