I’m a sucker for Steve learning about the party’s interests, do you have any thoughts about the kinds of things he’d do for each party member? (E.g. he has the ability to recognize tony hawk, despite his inconspicuousness, because of max’s skateboarding)

Actually now I'm obsessed with the idea that Steve is one of the few people who are not personal friends with him who is able to identify Tony Hawk without a skateboard. Like. Steve is an athlete and respects athleticism, and gives credit where it is due. (He does NOT allow making fun of Olympic athletes, even the weird sports, just because some people don't appreciate how hard you work for it.) So he's like "wow that Tony guy sure is talented. He is so high in the air. Good for him." And never forgets his face. At some point someone shares one of those "didn't recognize actual skate legend Tony Hawk " stories except it ends with "and then the guy in pastels standing beside Eddie Munson slapped his (Eddie's) chest and went "hey!! That's Tony Hawk!! Let's see if we can get an autograph for Max!" And I realized I had been making awkward small talk about cocktail weenies with sports legend Tony Hawk while working up the courage to ask Eddie Munson for an autograph."

He also tries to learn how to Ollie but he's actually really nervous and wears all the protective gear possible and is only able to go forward. (This is from my personal experience being post concussive and not a good skater. It's scary! My brain meat is delicate!) But Max tells him it's okay and talks about the skatepark in California and some of her old friends from there, and he tries to teach her how to make fried rice.(one of the only actual meals that isn't breakfast food he can cook really well completely from scratch) She gets him to do her hair with El because Steve is the only other person who understands that for El hair is a means of control, and that taking care of it is something important to that feeling.

He and El do jigsaw puzzles together and listen to folk music I think. El would appreciate having the option to talk or not, and likes listening to Steve talk too. Also I like jock El so he gets her overly invested in the Cubs like tells her all the lore and she's obsessed with the goat and she joins a softball team. When she first yells at an umpire for a bad call Steve almost cries of pride. Like. Finally. He's not the only one who Gets It.

Lucas and him bond over basketball yes. But Lucas doesn't yell at refs, and Steve gets why but thinks it's very fun when people yell at officials. Also I think they watch clouds together after practicing. Just nice peaceful, laying on warm blacktop and staring at the sky. Maybe El joins them and Lucas and El can bond this way too. Steve and his little jock siblings. (Why does no one consider max a jock for skateboarding? I guess it wasn't really seen as a sport for a long time...hm..)

Steve also bought a flat of new coke before they stopped selling it and keeps it for Lucas on movie nights or whatever and everybody always yells and groans because where is getting that!! It was discontinued!! Also they watch anime together. Erica and Robin join.

I can see him getting into some video games with Dustin and Mike and Lucas. Only the two or more player ones though he doesn't like playing alone. Like. Okay this whole post has anachronisms but please imagine him playing Lego Star Wars (complete saga) with Dustin. The chaos. The yelling.

He's absolutely a pinball guy. They go to the arcade and everyone does their thing but then end up cheering Steve on as he goes for idk star trek pinball glory. Without even tilting it! Idk what to tell you but Steve def loves pinball.

Also before his dad cut him off or after he gets some kind of inheritance he does a very financially secure impulse buy: he purchases an arcade game. Full size. I am partial to Asteroids because that's what my dad impulse bought in the 80's and had it in our basement growing up but let's keep this going he has a themed pinball machine. Icon.

He 100% reaches Dustin to drive. Mrs. Henderson asked him because Steve just looked sad when she mentioned teaching him and she was like well...we could BOTH teach him :) (because she has mentally adopted him. She told him to call her Ma and he does and Robin is like Steve. That's your mum now. And Steve's like no... Everybody calls her that. And she saysnSteve. Only Dustin. Her actual literal son. I wish tamagotchis were out in the 80's because Steve would be so diligent a Tama babysitter Erica would sell his services to her friends if they needed it lmao. He'd get all squinty and concentrated you know he'd highscore jump rope but not get the shapes game (me too buddy). Alas. Not to be.

Instead he listens to her talk about her elementary and middle school drama while looking for four leaf clovers. He also has watched MLP with her and may have teared up a little. Also, of course, she is his one true Game Master. Sorry Eddie

Mike is harder...maybe they bond over making snarky comments about people in movies, and then talk about how actually is car racing a sport? And it'd be sort of awkward because Mike has Nancy as an older sibling (even if they don't get along) and he's holding on to animosity that's pointless now. Plus Dustin and Lucas both seem to see Steve as a big brother and friend figure, but like. It's a bit weird for Mike. But still, Mike knows if he bikes to Steve's at two am he'll be hauled in and forced to sit down and asked if he wants a hug and hot chocolate.

Same with will, except Will has Jonathan (El does to but it's different) so at first they're sorta🧍🧍 staring at each other. Steve has to be like sooooo wanna. Tell me about Wizards? Or something? Cool...rocks? And Will would realize that this guy's just, y'know. A guy. Probably similar to Mike except he's not begrudging about it.

I guess a lot of Steve and the party is him listening to them and letting them actually be silly and kids, making snarky comments about the highschool dramas happening, and encouraging them to try different things (he did!) And figure out what they like outside of what they think the rest of the party likes.

World

In the country of Neotokyo, year 20XX, youth with no hope for society's future form Tribes to find a place to call home.

With time, the disputes between Tribes continued to grow more and more violent. The situation was very intense in the eyes of the Neotokyo government, so they enforced the XB Law, which limited the quarrels between Tribes to only Extreme Baseball.

Pitch, bat, and trade blows. The youths were crazy over this radical pride-staking game.

XB (Extreme Baseball)

A duel method similar to baseball, designed to settle conflicts between Tribes. As determined by the XB Law, the loser must obey the winner's order(s).

Runners and the fielder with the ball can initiate battles with each other for the right to reach a base. The slugfests between players equipped with body-enhancing gear are XB's greatest trademark.

Rules

The games must be played late at night when there are no longer any onlookers.

The games will use the entire City as its field.

Batters are only out by tag out or by strike out.

There is no home run. In case of an extra-base hit, the runner(s) can run through the bases until they initiate a battle against the fielder with the ball.

A fielder with the ball is allowed to initiate a battle against a runner, staking the runner's right to reach a base.

Players can equip XB Gear to enhance their physical abilities.

Anything can be used as XB Gear, as long as it's approved by the Judge Robot acting as the umpire for the game.

The win condition is either scoring more points than the opposing team or knocking out the opponents in battle.

The winner can give any order to the loser.

Characters

[This section will have some character profiles for a few Tribes, but before that, I'll have to go over some elements that were only explained in a previous interview and in the stream. The game will contain 23 Tribes, each themed after one of the 23 wards of Tokyo. The names of the Tribes here all match the names of the wards they represent. Their base concepts will be all about local stereotypes, of course, but in the stream, Kodaka compared them to One Piece pirate crews in terms of how much individuality the characters will get within the team.]

Minato Tribe

A Tribe famed as the strongest in Neotokyo. They value the bonds between teammates and genuinely enjoy XB.

[The Minato ward is the ward where the Tokyo Tower (also called Minato Tower) is. Due to holding the symbol of the city, Kodaka chose it to be the ward of the anime's protagonist Tribe.]

The founder and leader of the Minato Tribe, as well as the main reason why they're considered the strongest. He is one of the very few Beam Bat users. He's as top tier as you'd expect as a pitcher and batter, not to mention he's unmatched at a fistfight.

He enjoys unchallenged popularity on the XB field, but he also has a more goofy side. His antics include giving his teammate incomprehensible nicknames and getting hungover on coffee, among others.

A hot-blooded boy who came to Neotokyo from the other side of the ocean in pursuit of one dream: winning against the strongest man, Kamiya Shun! He joins the Minato Tribe along with Haru. He's a novice in XB and struggles to memorize the rules, but he keeps challenging his opponents with his dauntless courage and the brute strength he's so proud of.

The Minato Tribe's vice-leader. Despite her frail looks, she's an outstanding catcher, capable of stopping even Kamiya's blazing fastballs. She takes charge, commanding Minato's ensemble of oddballs since Kamiya is too careless to be a real leader.

No one values the members of Minato's team more than her, but she is extremely strict about rules and morals, never hesitating to unload a cartridge of her favorite airsoft gun on a transgressing teammate.

A member of the Minato Tribe. He claims to be the ace of the team but is actually just a reserve pitcher. He's a pervert and a sleazeball and often gets punished by Arisugawa for it, but he shows no signs of wanting to fix his flaws.

He tends to abuse his seniority over the new members, but he's as caring and friendly as he is unreasonably bossy.

Daimon Manami

He seems to have some kind of goal in approaching the Minato Tribe, but what could it be?

Chiyoda Tribe

A tribe under the patronage of the king of Neotokyo. They have been suppressing many other Tribes all over the country to ostentate their power.

COURT DIMENSION

The match is played at Mall of Asia Manila the volleyball court 18 meters (59 feet) long and 9 meters (29.5 feet) wide, divided into two 9 m × 9 m halves by a one-meter (40-inch) wide net placed so that the top of the net is 2.24 meters (7 feet 4 1/8 inches) for women's competition (these heights are varied for veterans and junior competitions).

EQUIPMENT

The different equipment’s used in UAAP are:

Solid Ball(MIKASA)- color blue and yellow a heavy medicine ball type that allows setters to strengthen their fingers.

Jerseys( sleeveless and cycling shorts)- The Lady eagles(Atenean) wore a jersey that is color blue at the body and white at the shoulder part while their libero wore a jersey that is color white at the body and blue at the shoulder part all of them having different jersey numbers at the center in there jerseys , while the Lady spiker(Lasallian) wore a jersey that is color green and white with their school logo in the upper right and jersey numbers at the center.

Knee pads- are protective gear worn on knees to protect them against impact injury from falling to the ground or hitting an obstacle, or to provide padding for extended kneeling.

Proper Footwear- it can be observed that each player wore a comfortable and proper volleyball shoe for the match that enables them to be nimble.

Elbow Pads- Elbow pads are protective padded gear worn on the elbows to protect them against injury during a fall or a strike. I can observe that not all player wore this equipment it really vary to the comfort of the player.

BASIC SKILLS-

The six basic volleyball skills are passing, setting, spiking, blocking, digging, and serving.Passing is often thought of as the most important skill in volleyball. If you can't pass the serve, then you won't ever put your team in a position to score a point.The importance of serving is often undervalued. La salle(Lady Spikers)

Serve- it can also be observed in la salle that almost all of their serves are in and they don’t use underhand serve, mostly jump overhand serve or overhand serves.

Passing- just like in the ateneo team their passing is immaculate and almost by instincts, they precisely pass the ball to the person that they want to receive the ball, but the only problem is they are always caught off-guard by the lady eagles that’s why sometimes they can’t pass the ball correctly.

Digging- it’s also like the other team they don’t frequently use the dig during the match and they only use dig in the early match or in every first sets of a match.

Setting- they also frequently use setting in their gameplay especially after receiving a pass from their teammate, the setter then set the ball to the spiker.

Spike- just like in the other team the spiking in this team can also be observed in the later part of the match where the game is heated they are now mostly using spike as their attacking tactic to pressure and get the opponent off-guard.

Diving, rolling, sliding- they usually do this especially if they encounter a spike or a surprise drop ball from the other team.

Communication- their communication is also good as the other team, you can say that they have great bonds that are honed through different their experiences and training together, they are professionals, and you can really observe that they don’t need to shout they just need to signal each other in order for them to understood each other’s minds.

RULES OF THE GAME

*6 players on the floor at any one time - 3 in the front row and 3 in the back row

*Maximum of 3 hits per side

* Points are made on every serve for wining team of rally (rally-point scoring)

* Player may not hit the ball twice in succession.(A block is not considered a hit.)

* A ball is out if it hits an antennae, the floor completely outside the court, any of the net or cables outside the antennae, the referee stand or pole, the ceiling above a non-playable area.

* Ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a serve.

* A ball hitting a boundary line is in.

* The match goes to a fifth set this game is only played to 15 points. In order to win a set, a team must win by two clear points.

* New ball introduced for the first time at the Olympic Games with complete new design, two colours and a complete new panel design. New ball has only 8 panels.

* For FIVB and world events for senior teams there is the possibility introduced, within the Specific Sports Regulations, of up to 14 players being nominated for the final team roster. Where a team chooses to register more than 12 players, it is mandatory to register two liberos: the coach may for any reason exchange the original libero with the reserve libero – but only once in the match.

* Quick substitutions system implemented.

* Net fault: only hitting the top band of the net or taking support from the net classed as interfering with play. Contact with the opponent’s court with any part of the body above the feet also permitted, in conjunction with the net rule. This extends current centre line rule. But if the contact interferes with an opponent physically, or with the opponent’s ability to play the ball, then it would be considered a fault.

*Check ball if any of the opposing opponent touched the ball in any part of their body may it be arms hands or fingertips the score will be from the other team.

OFFICIATION OF THE MATCH

A first (or main) referee, second referee, a scorer and two line judges are required to umpire an official game of volleyball. Just like most sports, the main referee upholds the rules throughout the whole game and their decision is final. A volleyball team is allowed to make a formal protest with the scorer. The second referee stands opposite the main referee and is responsible for all substitutions, timeouts and the actions of the scorer's table. The official scorer keeps track of the score throughout the volleyball game and they also note down all the players' names. two to four line judges are needed to govern each game but in this match they have 4 line judges.

ANALYSIS OF THE UAAP MATCH

The match between the Ateneo and La salle is very heated but I can clearly see that the Ateneo team will win because they won the 2 sets of the game and also the last set, I can say that it was heated because their scores are not far from each other for the first set Ateneo got 25 while La salle got 23, second set is 26:24 and the last set is 25:21, all of their scores doesn't have a huge gap in it because both teams are competent and very professional, the Ateneo only got the lead because of their deadly attacks specifically their spikes and also their unexpected drop balls that leaves the La salle team to be flustered and pressured, because of those sneaky attacks the perfect passing of the La salle team is destroyed which leads to the victory of the Ateneo (Lady Eagles).

Cubs vs. Reds

Wow I wrote this for literally no reason at all!! Also I’m not really a writer or anything I’m just very passionate about baseball and Stranger Things. *for context* I did actual research to write this thing lol. Indiana doesn’t have an MLB team to represent them so people usually root for the Cincinnati Reds or the Chicago Cubs (depending usually on location or personal preference.) The Cubs were still DEEP in their losing streak so of course I had Dustin rooting for them. I made Lucas a Reds fan simply because it was the other option and I like it when these two fight-banter.

No one in Dustin or Lucas’ group of friends had ever been very athletically inclined. They would occasionally go throw a frisbee around in the park or play catch together if the weather was nice, but nothing that could get them onto the school’s team or anything like that. This was fine with them, they were perfectly content being spectators. They preferred it actually. They were really big into the whole “discussion” aspect of liking sports. They loved statistics, and trivia, and arguing with each other about things that made them feel less nerdy for liking them, or sometimes secretly even more nerdy which was ok too.

The problem was there had never been anyone they felt comfortable spectating. Until this spring, when Max mentioned excitedly at lunch that she had made it onto the Hawkins Middle School Softball team. They had been practicing for a couple weeks now and this afternoon would be their first official game. Finally, they had a reason to loiter by the sidelines and do their best impressions of TV sports commentators! Dustin and Lucas walked their bikes over to the diamond around the bottom of the second inning. They were already deep in a heated conversation about the principal of liking something simply because it’s “the underdog.”

“Why would someone willingly root for a team with the nickname, ‘The Loveable Losers’ it’s just pathetic!” Lucas rolled his eyes, already tired of having this argument.

“Not as pathetic as refusing to admit your team came down from their hot streak over five years ago.” Dustin quickly countered and dropped the kick stand on his bike next to the sand box in back of home plate. He grabbed his binoculars from his backpack and started searching for Max.

“It wasn’t a ‘hot streak’ it was a dynasty! And we still have three of the Great Eight on our team! Including Pete Rose!”

“Pfft. Yeah as manager.” Dustin mumbled under his breath, still peering through the binoculars for their friend. Lucas pushed them away from his eyes and pointed subtly to the catcher on the field. Her hair was mostly covered by head gear, but the short tufts of bright red peeking out from her helmet were unmistakeable. The boys looked at each other and smirked, planting themselves down behind the protective fence of home plate.

“Whatever. At least the Reds have a chance at winning the series. Face it, your team is cursed.” Lucas said, plucking a dandelion out of the ground and tying the stem into a knot.

“Not this year, baby. This year we’re winning it all!”

“You say that every year.”

“No, I can feel it. This year is our year, I can tell. We got so close last season! It’s a sign! The drought is finally over!”

(*the drought, in fact would not be over this year, or any year close to it. It would not be until the Summer of 2016 when Dustin is a 44-year old man that the Cubs would win a World Series. But that’s a different story.)

It was the umpire.

The game had been put into time-out.

Everyone on the field, and in the dugout were staring directly at them.

Dustin tenuously glanced at their friend. She had turned around part way, and her catchers mask was up so he could see her face. Her forehead and cheeks were shiny from sweat and her face was bright red with embarrassment. She was taking large angry huffing breaths, and was staring loathingly at them for disrupting her first game of the season with their idiotic bickering.

“You’re distracting the players. Go sit on the bleachers if you wanna yell like that.” The umpire pointed with his mask over to the dilapidated bleacher seats several feet away and waited with his arms crossed as Dustin and Lucas grabbed their bikes, tried to make apologetic eye contact with Max, and rode toward the playground side of the park to continue their debate.

Only Serena Williams herself knows whether her shocking meltdown at the end of the most controversial US Open final ever staged – in which she was beaten by the brilliant 20-year-old Naomi Osaka – was down to a surrender to emotion or, as she framed it in the chaotic aftermath, an impassioned stand against sexism. But what, to one of the sport’s fiercest and most unsparing competitors, could be scarier than being outplayed by a young lion who appeared more athletic, who was serving faster and returning everything fired her direction with metronomic consistency? What could be more unsettling for Williams, who turns 37 this month, than watching another opportunity to tie Margaret Court’s record for grand slam titles slipping from her grasp when there’s no telling how many more chances lie ahead?

Williams simply didn’t have answers on Saturday afternoon for the demands put forth by Osaka. At once the feelgood vibe of Serena’s much-publicized comeback following the birth of her daughter, celebrated in lucrative ad campaigns and a glossy five-part documentary series, felt like it was crashing down around her. It’s one thing to have the end of your career in sight, but perhaps Williams felt like her time was passing right in that moment.

Then one harsh call and boom.

The regrettable denouement of Saturday’s match is a Rorschach test for tennis fans: some think Williams was the victim of a gross injustice from an overzealous umpire while others believe her response was conduct unbecoming of a professional. The one thing everyone can agree on is that officials intruding in this way is unwanted, even if chair umpire Carlos Ramos was correct under the rules in all three code violations that prompted Williams’ outburst: the first a warning for illegal coaching, the second a point penalty for racquet abuse, the third a game penalty for verbal abuse. What’s most unfortunate is that Williams either couldn’t or wouldn’t let it go. And not just for herself: it means that the day afterwards we are talking about Williams rather than just how brilliant Osaka was in victory.

If you’ve watched Osaka for any length of time over the last year or two, but especially over the last fortnight in Flushing Meadows, you knew that Saturday’s match had the chance to be special. The pressure on Williams as the favourite meant Osaka was playing with house money and could swing freely. Had she been beaten, there would have been no shame in losing to the greatest player of all time playing before a partisan crowd.

The only question was whether a 20-year-old in her first grand-slam final could hold her nerve. It wasn’t long before it was obvious she could. Even after Osaka broke Williams in her second and third service games and cruised to the opening set, it was inevitable the American would make her trademark surge. It was far less clear whether it would be enough. The genius of Williams’s late-career renaissance is her knack to shift her level seemingly at will. If the serve is betraying her or a few loose points cost her an opening set, she’s proven time and again capable of elevating her game: flattening her groundstrokes, putting more on her serve.

But against Osaka it wasn’t clear if third gear would be enough – or if fourth is even there anymore. Maybe that’s where the fear creeps in. And maybe that’s where you look for a way out, not unlike her infamous loss to Kim Clijsters in the 2009 US Open where Williams was called for a foot fault serving at 4-6, 5-6. Her reaction, to threaten the lineswoman while on a code violation, expedited a finish that had taken on a sense of the inevitable: the tennis equivalent of Mike Tyson biting Evander Holyfield’s ear. Now a rule is a rule whatever the score is, but Ramos’s call in context was dubious. On Saturday, Ramos might not have been wrong, but that doesn’t make it right (indeed, Williams is not the first player to clash with him: Rafael Nadal has also complained about Ramos’s exuberant adherence to the rulebook).

It can’t be said enough that we are lucky to be living in Williams’s time. The story of an African American woman from Compton teaming with her older sister to rewrite the record book of a sport predominantly owned, played and watched by affluent white people is the ultimate American folk tale – and it’s still being written in real time. Slights rooted in sexism or racism are for Williams not paranoid delusions but everyday realities. To hear a stadium of more than 20,000 spectators rain boos and jeers on the court surely evoked harrowing memories of Indian Wells in 2001. She is a superhero, but every superhero has their weakness – and Serena’s is the red mist.

You can acknowledge the twin burdens of racism and sexism that Williams has shouldered – and it is true that male players regularly argue with umpires and are not penalised in the same fashion – and still admit she could have handled Saturday’s final stages better. Her comments on court, during the trophy ceremony and in her post-match interview demonstrated her uncanny habit of conflating the good with the bad, mixing everything up to excuse her poor behavior. Consider her response to a reporter who asked if she would have done anything differently.

“[Umpire Ramos] has never taken a game from a man because they said ‘thief’. For me it blows my mind. But I’m going to continue to fight for women and to fight for us to have [equality] – like Cornet should be able to take off her shirt without getting a fine. This is outrageous,” she said. “I just feel like the fact that I have to go through this is just an example for the next person that has emotions, and that wants to express themselves, and want to be a strong woman. They’re going to be allowed to do that because of today. Maybe it didn’t work out for me, but it’s going to work out for the next person.”

This sort of self-exoneration through obfuscation undercuts the massive strides made by Williams over most of the last decade in sportsmanship, which for years was the only criticism you could lob toward an otherwise unassailable character.

Williams, who like all true icons is many things to many people, can still tie Court’s record in four months at the Australian Open, a tournament she’s won seven times, including last year while eight weeks pregnant. She will be duly celebrated if it happens, but there’s no question Saturday’s regrettable episode will be long remembered as the night Williams’s house went up in flames.

Joe Mauer's Perfect Ending

Minnesota Twins™ legend Joe Mauer hasn’t officially announced he is going to retire next year, but many speculate that he will. If in fact Mauer does decide to hang up his cleats, he couldn’t have asked for a better send off than the Twins™ gave him during their last game of the 2018 season.

Mauer was drafted #1 overall straight out of high school by the Twins™ in 2001. He made his MLB® debut in 2004. Over his illustrious 15-year career, Mauer racked up some pretty amazing accomplishments. In 2006 he became the first catcher to win the AL batting title by hitting .347, a title he went on to win in 2008 (.328) and 2009 (.365) as well. Mauer also won the AL MVP in 2009 and in a 3 year stretch from 2008 – 2010 he won the Golden Glove for being the best defensive catcher. Mauer also racked up 5 silver slugger awards and 6 All – Star game appearances over the span of his career. He is widely regarded as one of the best offensive catchers of all time. If today was Mauer’s last MLB® game, he will have finished with some impressive stats including a .306 batting average, 2,123 hits, 428 doubles, and 923 RBIs.

On Sunday, September 30, the Twins™ wrapped up their season with a 5 – 4 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Although the game meant nothing in regard to the post season, it will be forever be one of the greatest games many fans have ever attended at Target Field™. Fans in attendance got to see what could possibly have been the picture-perfect ending of Joe Mauer’s playing career.

Before the start of the game, Mauer’s daughters ran out onto the field to greet him and stand with him during the national anthem. Hitting leadoff, Mauer received a standing ovation from the crowd during his first at bat. During his last at bat of the game, he hit a 3 – 2 ball to the opposite field, narrowly beating the throw to second base.

Head injuries made Mauer move from behind the plate to first base, but he’s always missed the feeling of being a catcher. The Twins™ gave him just that when they put him behind the plate for the first time since 2013. Mauer caught just one pitch at the top of the 9th but he’ll remember it for the rest of his life. He came out to huge cheers and another standing ovation from everybody in attendance. Both the umpires and the White Sox™ let Mauer enjoy this moment, recognize the crowd, and tip his cap before getting into position. After one pitch from Matt Belisle, Mauer went out to the mound, hugged Belisle and left the field.

Mauer stayed in the gear until after the game ended and joked that they were going to have a hard time getting it off him. In his emotional post game interview, Mauer thanked the fans, said he was undecided about the future, and reinforced the idea that he never wants to take the Twins™ uniform off.

COURT DIMENSION

The match is played at Mall of Asia Manila the volleyball court 18 meters (59 feet) long and 9 meters (29.5 feet) wide, divided into two 9 m × 9 m halves by a one-meter (40-inch) wide net placed so that the top of the net is 2.24 meters (7 feet 4 1/8 inches) for women's competition (these heights are varied for veterans and junior competitions).

EQUIPMENT

The different equipment’s used in UAAP are:

Solid Ball(MIKASA)- color blue and yellow a heavy medicine ball type that allows setters to strengthen their fingers.

Jerseys( sleeveless/ t-shirt and cycling shorts)- The Philippines wore a jersey that is color blue while their libero wore a jersey that is color white and all of them having different jersey numbers at the center in there jerseys , while the Vietnam wore a jersey(t-shirt) that is color red and white while their libero wore a yellow and black jersey with and jersey numbers at the center.

Knee pads- are protective gear worn on knees to protect them against impact injury from falling to the ground or hitting an obstacle, or to provide padding for extended kneeling.

Proper Footwear- it can be observed that each player wore a comfortable and proper volleyball shoe for the match that enables them to be nimble.

Elbow Pads- Elbow pads are protective padded gear worn on the elbows to protect them against injury during a fall or a strike. I can observe that not all player wore this equipment it really vary to the comfort of the player.

Setting- they also frequently use setting in their gameplay especially after receiving a pass from their teammate, the setter then set the ball to the spiker specially their mvp which is jersey no. 3.

But if the contact interferes with an opponent physically, or with the opponent’s ability to play the ball, then it would be considered a fault.

*Check ball if any of the opposing opponent touched the ball any part of their body may it be arms hands or fingertips the score will be from the other team.

OFFICIATION OF THE MATCH

A first (or main) referee, second referee, a scorer and two line judges are required to umpire an official game of volleyball. Just like most sports, the main referee upholds the rules throughout the whole game and their decision is final. A volleyball team is allowed to make a formal protest with the scorer. The second referee stands opposite the main referee and is responsible for all substitutions, timeouts and the actions of the scorer's table. The official scorer keeps track of the score throughout the volleyball game and they also note down all the players' names. two to four line judges are needed to govern each game but in this match they have 4 line judges.

Analysis

1st set (Philippines)=both teams are quite stiff, maybe because of the nervousness I can observe that both of their plays are mostly contain serve and spike not much interaction/passing to the both teams, and another reason is maybe they are still observing each other’s strengths and game play,both of the teams are neck to neck but Philippines

2nd set (Vietnam) = in here both the teams are now warmed up they can now get the spikes of each other, I can also observe that no. 3 of the Vietnam team is a good strategist and spiker, because the early spikes that she made are explosive but she the changed it quickly and turned it to a drop ball to disorient the defense of the Philippines, there was a time where the Vietnam was in the lead and the Philippines began to play aggressively to make up the points that they are lacking but in the end Vietnam still won the 2nd set.

3rd set (Vietnam)= Vietnam won the 3rd set due to their very explosive spikes , nice digs and also very nice blocks.

4th set (Philippines)= the Philippines are now aggressively playing with their deadly spikes and their nice digs which earned them a big lead, but kudos to Vietnam for being level headed despite the pressure they are experiencing.

5th set (Vietnam) = in this set the Vietnam has already strengthened their defense which enables the deadly spikes of the Philippines to pass through , as the game progressed I can observe that the Philippines are weakening their defenses, while Vietnam began to play aggressively thus the outcome of Vietnam being the winner of the match/gameplay.

PM Imran Khan promises referendum for Kashmir,s independence

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday promised the people of Kashmir that his government will hold a referendum in which they can choose to join Pakistan or become an independent state if they wish.

Addressed an election campaign rally in Tarar Khal, he rubbished talk of him "wishing to turn Azad Jammu and Kashmir into a new province of Pakistan".

"I do not know where all this talk has sprung from," he said, dismissing any notion of such an idea.

"But what I want to make clear now, is that in 1948, there were two United Nations Security Council resolutions which granted the people of Kashmir the right to decide their own future. According to the UN resolutions, the people had to decide whether they want to join Hindustan or Pakistan.

"I want to clarify to all of you today. InshaAllah, a day will come, when all the sacrifices made by the people of Kashmir, will not be wasted. God will grant you that right. There will be a referendum, InshaAllah.

He expressed the confidence that the people on that day will choose to live with Pakistan.

The premier went on to state that after the UN mandated referendum, his government will hold another referendum, where the people of Kashmir will be given the choice to either live with Pakistan or become an independent state.

PM Imran Khan said the freedom struggle of Kashmiris pre-dates partition and began more than a 100 years ago, when the people stood up time and again against the Dogra government.

The Dogra family was a dynasty of Hindu Rajputs who ruled Jammu & Kashmir from 1846 to 1947.

Moving on to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election, due on Sunday, the prime minister said that there is already talk that "there will be rigging".

He said when he used to play cricket, it was standard practice for countries to have their own umpires, and teams that were fearful of losing against a powerful team, would preemptively raise a hue and cry about losing the match due to the other country's umpire officiating.

"The Noon League, which I truly believe has never done a single thing with honesty, have begun talk of rigging already.

"The government is yours, the staff is yours, the Election Commission is comprised of people of your own choosing, and it is we who will do elections?" he asked the party.

Sharing an anecdote from when he used to play cricket at Lahore's Gymkhana Club, he said that one day he and his friends noticed a "plump man, seemingly very enthused about playing cricket" visit the club.

"That man was Nawaz Sharif," the prime minister said.

PM Imran Khan said "everything he will go on to say from that point is true", adding that people who used to play at the club in those days, will back him.

The premier said that Nawaz's cricket "was about as good as his politics".

"But then he became a finance minister. When he would come to play a match, he would bring his own umpires to the ground: one a deputy commissioner, one a commissioner. Whenever he was out, they would declare it as a no ball. Since then, the Noon League has fallen into this bad habit. For them, good umpiring is only when it is their own man," PM Imran Khan said.

The premier said that in 200 years of Test Cricket history, it was Pakistan that brought neutral umpires and the man who was captain at the time "is standing right before you all". He said at a time when West Indies was the most robust team in cricket, when even losing against them gracefully was a tall order, Pakistan brought neutral umpires to the match, back in 1986.

"And today, there are neutral umpires the world over."

The prime minister said that the government had been asking the Opposition for the past year to come work with the government on electoral reforms "but no one ever comes".

"We recommended electronic voting machines. What happens is that right after the election ends, the result is out with the press of a button.

"You don't have to worry about going through boxes of votes. Neither is there any fear of the boxes being stolen, nor of double-stamping. This is the marvel of technology. The result is instantaneous," the premier said.

He said the Opposition "refused to listen and is now crying rigging".

PM Imran Khan said that one can rest assured that Pakistan "will become a great nation".

He said that over his half-an-hour ride to the rally venue he was surrounded by immense beauty and it made him realise that if even a little bit of effort is put, Pakistan can earn big from tourism.

The prime minister regretted the effects of the war on terror on Pakistan and said it was "this region that suffered the most".

He said after his government came into power, in 2013 and 2018, according to a UN report, poverty registered a significant decline in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The premier said that the province to spend the most on human development was KP. In 2013, there was a coalition government and then in 2018, "the province that never votes for a party twice, had PTI win with a two-thirds majority".

"So my first and foremost efforts will be geared at reducing poverty in Azad Jammu and Kashmir," he said.

He cited the Ehsaas programme, in which by December, 40% of the underprivileged will have access to subsidised food.

Also citing the Kamiyab Pakistan programme, he said one person of every family will receive technical education and the family will have health insurance worth Rs1 million. In addition, one person will be granted an interest-free loan to start a business.

"We have set aside Rs500bn for this programme," he said.

The premier asked whether in the last 10 years, anyone had fought as hard for Kashmir on international forums. "You can assess the two governments over the last 10 years and just the three years we have been in government."

"Did anyone go to the United Nations? Did anyone give an interview abroad?

"What to say of all these things, Narendra Modi is instead being invited to weddings. He is bad-mouthing Pakistan, blinding the people of Kashmir with pellet guns and torturing them. And he is being invited to weddings after much begging and pleading," the premier said.

Referring to a book by Barkha Dutt, he said that it states that Nawaz Sharif "held secret meetings with Modi".

"He held a secret meeting because he was afraid of the Pakistan Army. Then, he goes to India but does not meet Hurriyat leaders out of fear of angering Modi.

"These leaders of yours. Ask them. What did they do in the five years they has been in power here?" he said, as he continued to criticise the PML-N.

He did not spare the mention of PPP either.

"And that Zardari. He would think of Kashmir if he had time to spare from counting his money," the premier said.

PM Imran Khan promised he would continue to raise his voice for the people of Kashmir. "Pakistan will always remain by your side," he added.

"I wish to salute Ali Geelani who is in jail in occupied Kashmir, and his struggle. And Yasin Malik," the prime minister said.

He said when there was an earthquake 16 years ago in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Yasin Malik and he visited the affected areas here. "He had brought money over with him from Kashmir and he distributed it among people here. I will never forget that."

"Continue to exercise patience, Yasin Malik. InshaAllah, good times will come soon. The entire nation of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir are with you and praying for you and the people of Kashmir."

"It is our belief. Kashmir will get this right, to decide its own future," he reiterated, as he concluded his address.

The badminton court is 13.4 meters long and 6.1 meters wide. For singles, the court is marked 5.18 meters wide. The lines marking out the court are easily distinguishable and colored white or yellow. The lines are also 40mm wide. A court may be marked out for singles only. The back boundary lines also become the long service lines and the posts or the strips of material representing them are placed on the side lines. The diagonal full length of the full court is 14.366m.  

In playing badminton, there are four basic equipment's and gears for this game, which are:

Badminton Racket - Badminton rackets can be made from several types of materials. Depending on the material selection, this can result in different combinations of racket weight, balance points and string tensions. Some popular badminton brands are Yonex, ProKennex, Wilson, ProTech and Li-Ning.  

Shuttlecock - There are two types of shuttlecocks, plastic and feathered shuttlecocks. Plastic shuttlecocks are far more durable compared to the feathered types, which are commonly used. However, plastic shuttlecocks are only recommended for beginners. This is because feathered shuttlecocks are expensive and fray easily, especially if the wrong technique is used. During tournaments, badminton players usually used feathered shuttlecocks.  

Badminton shoes - Badminton shoes are designed to give you better traction and grip to stop in time to return a shot. They should be lightweight and have good cushioning to absorb impact when you jump or land. This is also used for safety precautions instead of using slippers which could cause injuries.  

Badminton Attire - For casual non-competitive players, a comfortable pair of shorts and cotton or dri-fit t-shirts will do. Some players may want to equip themselves with hand grips, wrist bands and ankle guards. Each of them serves different purposes which might also add a dash of color to the outfit.  

Basic Skills

To be good at any sport, you must master the basics. Mastering the basic techniques and skills allow you to play better and consistently. Which is why Badminton has some basic skills which are:

Knowing how to warmup properly – warming up is a combination of skill and a bit of know-how. Player of any level should know how to warm up properly before stepping on court for a match. It is very important to help us avoid injuries.

The basic forehand and backhand grip – learning the forehand and backhand grip is a fundamental skill. It’s very important to get this right as it is the building block to learning every shot in Badminton.

The basic six corners footwork – footwork is crucial in Badminton. It has been known that some coaches in China do not teach the players any racquet skills until the players have mastered the basic footwork's.

The split step/ the ready stance – the split step is a technique used to get ready for the next shot. It’s the basis of building good footwork and speed around the court.  

The basic shots – there are many varieties of shots in badminton which are the serve (forehand or backhand), the lift, the net shot, the block, the drop shot, the smash and the clear.  

The hand-eye coordination – this is very essential for badminton since you cannot play badminton if you cannot connect the racquet and the shuttle.  

Playing catch – it is a simple but effective way of improving the hand-eye coordination. This is when you practice throwing or catching with someone else or with the wall.

Rhythm and timing – badminton players must get the natural rhythm of the game to develop a good footwork and to create consistency in the game. It can serve as a huge purpose for playing matches.

Technical and Tactical Skills

The technical skills in badminton learning the basic skills which are the grip and serving. Once you have learned that, you move to the next techniques which are the overhead clear, overhead drop shot, low serve and high serve. These are the 4 technical skills used in badminton.

The tactics of the game are hitting to the corners, central base position, and moving opponent around the court. These are very important in the game since they help benefit your performance during the game.  

Rules of the Game

A match consists of the best of three games of 21 points.

The player/pair winning a rally adds a point to its score.

At 20-all, the player/pair which first gains a 2-point lead wins that game.

At 29-all, the side scoring the 30th point wins that game.

The player/pair winning a game serves first in the next game.

A badminton match can be played by two opposing players (singles) or four opposing players (doubles).

A competitive match must be played indoors utilizing the official court dimensions.

A point is scored when the shuttlecock lands inside the opponent's court or if a returned shuttlecock hits the net or lands outside of the court the player will lose the point.

At the start of the rally, the server and receiver stand in diagonally opposite service courts.

A legal serve must be hit diagonally over the net and across the court.

A badminton serve must be hit underarm and below the server's waist height with the racquet shaft pointing downwards, the shuttlecock is not allowed to bounce. After a point is won, the players will move to the opposite serving stations for the next point.

The rules do not allow second serves.

During a point a player can return the shuttlecock from inside and outside of the court.

A player is not able to touch the net with any part of their body or racket.

A player must not deliberately distract their opponent.

A player is not able to hit the shuttlecock twice.

A 'let' may be called by the referee if an unforeseen or accidental issue arises.

A game must include two rest periods. These are a 90-second rest after the first game and a 5-minute rest after the second game.

There are three types of officials in the sport of Badminton, which are:

The referee

Umpire

Linesman

The Referee takes responsibility for making sure the tournament is run according to all the rules, is fair and that sportsmanship is being upheld.  There must be one Referee at all MBA Sanctioned Events.

The Umpire takes responsibility for running individual matches.  He or she is responsible for making all final decisions for points awarded in a match.  Umpires are mandatory for final matches in the MBA Provincial Closed and Junior Closed, as well as any Badminton Canada or World Badminton Federation tournaments.

Linesmen take responsibility for making line calls on shuttles that land on the floor of the badminton court.  They are there to assist the umpire in making the best decision possible.  Linesmen are not mandatory for any provincial tournaments, but are frequently used in more important matches.
