-at some point between chapters 9 and 10-
Jason was frequently a fitful sleeper, tossing and clinging and squeezing me. He didn't sleep over often, but when he did we settled into a bit of a routine easily enough. We dozed off, my back pressed against his chest. When his tossing woke me I would turn over and stroke his hair and kiss the top of his head until he settled down, and that was usually enough. I would go back to sleep, and in the morning he made breakfast.
His nightmares were usually accompanied by soft murmurs at most. So my brain took a minute to process the sound of a hoarse scream behind me as I woke in the dark. Jason was trembling, I could feel it, and gasping sharply as if he couldn't breath.
When I realized what had woken me, I jumped up, flipping over. “Jay??”
He jolted, flinching back. “D- Don't!”
“... O- ok. It's gonna be ok, Jason. … I'm just gonna turn on the lamp, ok?” I whispered, slowly reaching for the bedside table.
He slowly nodded, and I flipped the switch. The green flecks in his eyes had taken on an electric quality, making the deep blue of his eyes look darker and duller. He watched me like a cornered animal, curled in on himself in a little ball.
“... Was it a nightmare?” I whispered. He shifted, grimacing slightly, and nodded. “... Do you want to talk about it?”
“No.”
I nodded slowly. “Do you want to cuddle?”
He blinked a bit, taking slow, deep breaths. “... I … I just … I need a minute.”
“Ok. I'll go get you a glass of water.” He nodded slowly, and I went to the kitchen.
I took my time, humming softly to myself, and pretended not to hear the muffled sobs coming from the bedroom. The sounds died down, and I brought a glass of water and a canister of trail mix. I continued humming, so he would hear me coming, and by the time I returned he was sitting up, leaning against the headboard. Jason's cheeks were a bit pink, but otherwise he looked ok.
I smiled softly, offering him the glass. “I brought something to nibble on too, in case you want it.”
He took the glass, breathing slowly. “... Why?”
“Having a snack is grounding. It can help your nervous system remember that you're somewhere safe, cause if you weren't you wouldn't have stopped to eat.”
“Huh…” he sipped the water, gesturing for me to sit next to him.
I smiled brightly, climbing into bed, and he wrapped an arm around my shoulders. “... Sorry I woke you …”
“Don't be sorry, baby. I got you, and you got me, right?”
He nodded slowly, leaning against me more. “... Still sorry…”
I ran my fingers through his hair gently; “I'm glad you didn't have to wake up alone.”
He sighed softly, setting the glass aside and wrapping his arms around my waist. “... Can … can I just … lay here? And you keep doing that?”
“Of course, Jay, anything.” I stroked his hair more, and he rested his cheek against my tummy.
After a few minutes, he sniffled softly. I gently massaged his scalp; “are you sure you don't want to talk about it?”
“... I just … I can still hear him laughing … he's taunting me …” he sniffled, clinging to me more. “... I can't make him stop … he's just in my head now …”
I frowned deeply, holding him close. “... He's not here, Jay. I won't let him hurt you ever again. I promise.”
He chuckled weakly. “... Batman couldn't even save me … what can you do that he couldn't?”
I leaned down to kiss the top of his head, whispering; “Batman has a very strict no killing policy. … I have made no such vow.”
He blinked a bit, looking up at me slowly; “... You … you would try to …?”
“If he was here in front of me, there isn't a force on this planet that could stop me.” I pushed his hair out of his eyes. “He doesn't get to chase you into my home and make you feel unsafe.”
Tears filled his eyes as he buried his face against me. I continued stroking his hair, humming softly until he finally dozed back off.

**Spoiler-free summary ahead**
Joker: Folie à Deux
As soon as the word “musical” surfaced about this film, everyone immediately decided to take a massive shit on it without even giving it a chance. Me, personally, I can’t stand musicals. HOWEVER. Joker: Folie à Deux is **not** just strictly a musical. There’s a story and plenty of dialogue. The songs throughout the film are incorporated in a fun, zany way.
The attitude of the movie overall goes hand-in-hand with the wild and somber tone of its predecessor.
Lady Gaga provides a unique and captivating take on Harley Quinn. Her character representation is more along the lines of a troubled soul rather than “Daddy’s Little Monster”.
In all, I really, really liked it. 🙂

played more strikers today. loved the 1-2 punch of Awkward cop talk immediately followed up by the thieves following zenkichi and his daughter to a cemetery in a horrifically embarrassing scene to watch. at least we got the funny phantom thief fan scene with akane that was good.

The more Zack Snyder talks about his ideas for DC characters the more glad I am he is no longer making movies about DC characters.

The batfam trauma candy salad would go absolutely insane.
Dick: Hi. I'm Dick Grayson and when I was 8 I watched my parents fall to their death in front of me, then I had to move away from everything I love and spend the rest of my life in some weird American city. And I brought the sour gummy worms.
Jason: This is so stupid- my mother used to kick me out when he drug dealer would come over so I didn't see her spending our very small amount of money on drugs.
Steph *off screen*: what did you bring?
Jason: nerds.
Cass: I was raised to be a weapon, a murderer. I brought peach rings.
Steph: I'm Steph and My dad was an alcoholic who thought he could go head to head with batman and outdo the riddler. And I brought Reese's pieces.
Tim: I'm Timothy Drake Wayne and I had left the house to try and find some guy before he killed my dad, just for him to kill my dad when I was gone. I brought sour rainbow strips.
Duke: My parents are in a mental ward, high on joker toxin. No one knows if they'll ever get better. And I got m&m's.
Damian: I am a highly trained assassin and-
Steph: cut. Cut. Damian. Civilian identities. Ok. Restart.
Damian: My mother randomly dropped me on some weird man's doorstep when I was ten. I brought rock candy.

Two-Face is a way better arch-nemesis than Joker.
What does the clown brings nowadays other than gore and violence for violence ? He doesn’t have a backstory because his character does not allow one, his ties with Bruce and Batman are nothing more than him being obsessed with the Bat and his clown villain schtick is barely relevant anymore.
(That and as long as the clown lives, Jason (and maybe Babs) are doomed to always have their story and life revolving around him instead of allowing their characters to grow and move on)
-
Harvey got his life fucked by a corrupt system who crushed his dream to be a lawyer and make Gotham better. He’s a long time friend of Bruce but also one of the Batman’s longest villains, who might see the Bat as a failure for justice or an obstacle to it. He completely changed Dick’s view of vigilantism, relationship with Bruce and the meaning of Robin while the « Two » schticks is deeply linked into his dualism, fatalism and determinism.
The potential to explore him and Batman/Bruce’s relationship, how the two of them approach justice and how they lived through their trauma is so much more compelling, filled with angst and intense.
(While I’m at it, shoutout to Riddler, deserves more attention too.)
I feel like the fandom agrees that the Joker can just kick rocks. In all fanfic I read so far he:
1. Isn’t there at all. 2. Only mentioned when talking about Jason, Babs, Duke etc. 3. He’s a vegetable.
And even fanon oriented DC content agrees: Gotham Knight and WFA never saw the Joker. He’s only mentioned sporadically.
I need DC to start using Two-Face more because I need a writer who thinks exploring how Bruce and Harvey's friendship was impacted by Harvey beating Dick half to death with a baseball bat as a 10-year-old is worth doing.
We've had multiple explorations of the Bruce-Harvey friendship & how it survives Two-Face's existence, and we've had several stories address Dick's lingering trauma from Two-Face's beating, but never how BRUCE dealt with Robin: Year One re: his interactions with both of them.
I need an answer for Bruce putting a reformed Harvey in charge of Gotham during 52/One Year Later over literally anyone else when that beating had been canon since the 90s and Robin: Year One had come out less than 5 years before but I'm never going to get it because DC is too obsessed with putting out stories about the clown man to do actual character development
