The thing I think about is that despite all the lip service to progressive politics, it was always clearly secondary to his own feelings, whether they be positive or negative, and was always a means of gaining social capital. And also the degree to which is maleness, whiteness, thinness, southerness and prettiness (etc.) served to reinforce the harmless progressive soft boy persona he created and benefitted from. The way that protected him from being talked out about, and from being spotted for what he was.

He was considered "one of the good ones" by so many, after the comment he made about how teenager girls interests are always belittled (a sentiment he did not correctly attribute to the women that first pointed it out) he was in tiktoks for "men i'd feel safe in a lift with" and "men i'd leave my drink with".

When like, ultimately he was and is a self pitying labour cunt who engages in politics as a means to gain social standing rather than actually fight for the liberation of people. His abuse is an extension of his misogyny, and it is an extension of his views on others. As sophie said, "when every character you create is a self centered and narcissistic egomaniac, it makes me think it's not a character after all"

I'm frustrated at myself for extending the benefit of the doubt to him and presuming the jokes and relationships styles he had with people were discussed behind the scenes, and that he was playing a character when he was not. This is the case for niki, but also for tommy, tubbo, philza, eret and others. (I regrettably did not see much of him and shubble as she fell outside of my twitch sphere)

My take away from this is gonna be being aware of how easy it is to manipulate public image and how easy it is to talk about progressive politics as a means for social capital, rather than it being an expression of internalized ideas.

My other take away is to never presume that mistreatment of others is pre-discussed as a joke even if the people involved don't argue against it, especially if the people involved have a pre-existing power dynamic (e.i. mens misogynistic treatment of women).

I'm going to dissect what is happening in Wilburs appology, partially for my own sanity, partially because there is merit in dissecting what is being said here, what is being implied, and understanding manipulative tactics (even when they are so poorly done because he is too blinded by his own misogyny to effectively manipulate the narrative.)

In conclusion:

He only believes the harm he did was making her clear his apartment and being selfish

Does not believe he did anything wrong in regards to ignoring her safe word, pinning her down, or causing her pain she did not want.

As such, he necessarily her feelings as irrational and his perspective as more accurate, a further case of misogyny.

Hey y’all, I’m making a quick post about sootbur/sootcest/bursonas just because I wanted to talk about it as a fandom, because people have a tendency to misjudge what it is and that often leads to hate and it can get really nasty.

First off, it is a character-centric* fandom. It mostly follows consistent characters put on by ccWilbur (though occasionally we do latch onto one off bits). These characters have no resemblance to their creator besides occasionally looks, but it is really popular in the fandom to alter their heights and looks and to further differentiate them and for fun. 

They are NOT ccWilbur unless specifically stated, and that distinction is important. To say they are him is like saying ccTommy and cTommy are the same person, or Ranboo in Genloss is the same person as ccRanboo.

They are characters put on by an actor, ccWilbur is not a murderer, a misogynist, or a zombie. (We hope.)

*There are people who include ccWilbur in their sootbur, of course, but I personally haven’t run into them in the tumblr sootbur fandom as it is bursona focused in ships. I think it would be unfair to paint this side of the fandom as rpf writers.

Second off, fandom is for the fans, acting like otherwise is a bit silly.

There is a need in the MCYT fandom (especially the DSMP side) to make sure everything is approved of by content creators, is “ok” with their boundaries. Sootbur is just for us though, how Wilbur feels about it really doesn’t matter as he will never really know about it unless you go and tell him.

Yes, he knows about the bursona side of the fandom and has interacted with it on twitter, but sootbur is, once again, for fans! It exists only in extremely small pockets in fan communities. Content creators do not and should not be heavily involved with these communities imo. This is common place in nearly every fandom.

Sootbur isn’t hurting anyone, it is just a silly set of ships. There’s no need to treat it like its somehow so much worse than DSMP ships like eretbur or fundbomb. Those ships also exist without “permission”.

Sure, maybe to you it inexplicably yucks your yums, but rather than jumping to the ship being the problem and harassing folks I implore you to consider why. Because the answer “just because its weird,” isn’t a good justification. 

This fandom is a community space, and on tumblr, is almost entirely sfw. It is not hurting anyone and is just a group of people being passionate about a specific creator’s/actor’s characters.

i full heartedly believe that the ending for the dsmp wasn’t what like, a vast majority of people had planned.

tubbo stated he didn’t like amnesia endings and starting over and it felt like a cop out and i believe he said he had other plans. like two weeks before the finale he said he and tommy had tried to end it for months but a particular person wouldn’t get back to them.

tommy had just gone on a rant about how awful cdream was and how people who are apologists for him just don’t make sense and he said verbatim he was an abusive character and then like a week later we got that ending

not only was it incredibly rushed, but these people had said months before that plans they had for their endings would be good. tommy said ctommy deserved a good ending and that so did chat. wilbur said the same thing about his character.

they talked before about how bad it’d be for characters who went through the specific depictions of abuse and trauma to not get at least a decent ending.

and of course in real life not all things end well, but when you have a story about a kid being abused in nearly every way a person can be, end up coming to an ‘understanding’ with his abused and then dying alone with him, it’s not a good message for fans who, if you remotely even step foot onto the fandom space on twitter or tiktok, clearly can’t understand that that was wrong.

there is no excuse, not one, for someone to abuse or hurt or harm another person, and there shouldn’t be a moment of understanding. not to mention c!dream’s final reasoning being he just wanted it to be how ‘things used to be’ is complete and utter bullshit. if that was his goal since the beginning, he wouldn’t have hurt his friends like he did. he on numerous occasions straight up said they meant nothing to him or he very actively used them for personal gain and didn’t bat an eye. if he’d wanted things to go back, he could’ve relented and gone and lived with his friends who’d literally made their very own space all to themselves, he could’ve forgotten about everything else.

exile was not a step in that direction. nor was doomsday, or fuck november 16th.

cdream egged techno on in chat on november 16th to set off the withers.

he used an revive book to experiment and torture people to ‘understand death’. he assisted in doomsday purely for enjoyment and to break tommy and effectively kill l’manberg, only to tell tommy at the end of it all that he’s doing it because it’s ‘fun’ and their story has only ‘just begun’. or did we forget about in the prison when he wanted tommy to be his lab rat and be immortal with him, to be someone he could kill and revive over and over. ‘wanted things back to normal’ who spat in the face of anyone who every offered him forgiveness and a chance and actively betrayed them anyway.

bullshit. it was an ending tacked on where it seems the only people who genuinely enjoyed it were people who thought tommy was the bad guy in the story because he was annoying. it was also awfully convenient for the story to wrap up with the ending of understanding an abuser and giving cdream a sympathic reasoning for all of his truly heinous actions in the heat of a controversy that dream himself was in which featured accusations of him taking advantage of the power imbalance he has with fans and messaging underage people online genuinely the announcement for the small ending marathon came out days after that came to light.

and cwilbur, oh cwilbur. ccwilbur had gone on about the importance of the stories we tell and the themes he shared. he said he might not be able to promise a happy ending but he could at least a bittersweet one, or one that wasn’t bad.

but then we had the ‘apology’ streams where almost all of them had him apologize for things he genuinely wasn’t at fault for, such as the ‘betraying technoblade’ bs, don’t get me started on that one, or everything involving phil who was textbook definition neglectful of his son, which according to both their characters seemed to happen well into c!wilbur’s youth.

you had him apologize to eret for… what? being betrayed and being murdered and holding a grudge? and yeah they came to a half assed ‘we were both wrong’ conclusion. need i mention that the person who claimed to help with eret’s part of the script was very very much antil’manberg.

over and over wilbur apologized and got shit on

he had a few good moments with tommy but then he just fucking left. he found out about exile and had such intense feelings that he wanted to kill dream himself, but settled for a trick and apology to tommy and left him there on the beach with some lighthearted jokes. suddenly forgetting that if dream really cared about the discs he would’ve stopped when he had them before. utah, fucking utah, which is an ending i wouldn’t even mind if after the fact we weren’t told it’s an ‘allegory for death’ and that somehow any backstory his character had (knowing tommy long before the smp, growing up with and playing in snow and sword fighting ) is suddenly gone because he was an adult when he was suddenly transported to the smp. all of any sort of prior history we had before is gone. and he’s become a stranger.

and utah wouldn’t be a bad ending if it had something else with it, or if it didn’t mean that wilbur just gave up to forget everyone, or allegory for death died anyway, or whatever it’s supposed to mean now. it could’ve been made bittersweet, i could come up with so many ways that his character could’ve ended without any grand ending, how it could’ve ended in a whisper but still fit.

and GHOSTBUR. what so half of wilbur’s soul is stuck in a separate dimension to suffer for all eternity because the gods abandoned the world. well, save for one god who only rescued one maybe two people from limbo because they were friends with her husband. she couldn’t do that to half her son’s soul, or done that earlier in limbo no. only now, when it meant so much to her husband who doesn’t even really care about his son to begin with.

but i’m meant to sit here and accept that everything ended they way it did when months and months before they talked about these characters being beloved and getting endings they needed and that they deserved, giving chat and viewers the endings they deserved, only for it to very suddenly be rushed with an announcement for ‘season two’ and all the hype of that, which isn’t going to happen and we could tell wasn’t going to happen long before it was even properly announced, and everyone had to go go go wrap up. and i get it they need to move on from the dream smp, they’re doing other things right now that are frankly, really cool.

but i personally think that if that was the case, and they were tired and bored and couldn’t get people to get online at certain times, that they could’ve written out all they had planned, said they wouldn’t be able to complete it in full but here is what we wanted to do, and send it

with as much love for that server as they seemed to have.

it just. those endings were so rushed. and they joke about it. and they talk about how they wanted to do things differently. and they talk and it just.

i don’t know what i’m trying to say anymore i’m just so distraught and hearing that we can’t even have a sucky ending have ambiguity for it being good or bad, and now it’s just ‘oh yeah that escape this character made? it was an allegory for death’ its bs and it sucks it sucks.

i’ve watched these characters since the start. i never missed a strea i watched multiple perspectives. i’ve watched everything and i’ve not forgotten details that these creators seem to and it feels like they crumbled up their characters and shoved them in a drawer to forget about after spending so long writing up these grand and frankly beautiful stories. it’s a novel with an ending chapter that is only a page. it’s a novel with footnotes for an epilogue and it feels so bad.

i still love the story, i love the characters, and there were faults all along in the story but those were nothing but blemishes opposed to the absolute black out ending that meant nothing.

Thank you for giving me the go ahead to ramble for a second! Qwilbur has been mischaracterized pretty much since he left, he’s been called a deadbeat dad because Tallulah was affected by his absence and it sucks because ccwilbur physically could not log on the server and despite that still made it canon that he wrote to her every week even when he couldn’t do it irl. The people saying that he doesn’t care about her or that tallulah would choose qphil over him simply have not watched Wilbur’s pov or payed attention to anything tallulah said about him.

Now, most recently today, people have started to call him selfish and entitled not because of his fight with qphil (which would still be wrong), but because he interrupted baghera’s fish joke and then left. Not only was that not lore and no one was in character at that specific moment, but if you watch any of Wilbur’s content you’d know that, much like quackity, he doesn’t have a big stamina for streaming; at that point he clearly wanted to wrap up stream to do his final bit of lore for the day and go to bed and to use that to call his character “the worst” is just not right imo.

So yeah, it’s very clear who watches wilbur and who doesn’t, qwilbur can be a bit of a brat sometimes but not without reason and nowhere near the level some people are implying

After tommy was revived, he finally made sense of the core of dreams desire for the server, he cannot understand why dream had to do the things he did to make that happen, why simplier times had to be the way he wanted them to be or why he hurt everyone in an attempt to achieve it, but he gets the core desire of his views, just showing how compassionate tommy is despite dream having tortured and abused and killed him for the past 2 years.

Dreams sees that and imidiently tries to use it into manipulating tommy to join their side, pretending to be all simple and just wanting to be friends. Of course that is untill he realizes that he is gonna die and that it was a trap.

Tommy saying "I'm sorry" wasnt him apologizing to dream for what he did but more for that he had to kill him, bc in the end, tommy never wanted to kill anyone, but to save the server he had to.

The nuke only hit the prison, like it intended to do.

However somehow the 5 people that were in the prison woke up somewhere else. Prehaps it was still the same server, just far away from everything or maybe it was a completly new world. They all had their memory wiped, but prehaps memory can be recovered?

(Also a lil theory im case that the whole server was nuked and everything was reset)

What cdream and ccwilbur said about the server got me thinking

Cdream said "how do people just apear on the server?" And ccwilbur said "prehaps ctommy and cwilbur met on another world, parted ways but met again on the dream smp."

It makes it seem like the server just started existing at one point and one after another, people joined. That doesn't make sense tho considering certain people have memorys from befor them officially joining the server that played on the server tho? (Like ranboo, puffy, eret) or that karl can go back in time to stuff existing on the smp and also the egg existing for a long time on the server. It makes no sense!

But what if the server is a loop? What if this isnt the first time that the server existed? What if dreamXD just resets the server everytime things go bad?

It would mean everyone has amnesia, but only some are aware that they have a past they forgotten. And that would mean that while the server gets reset, its possible to regain the memories of the past loop.

I would also like to think that there is people who were/are not part of the loop bc they came from somewhere else. Techno came from somewhere, so he would have no memories of a past life he forgotten. Same goes for phil and wilbur. However, phil might be part of the cycle now considering he was on the server when it was reset. Or prehaps he is not. I'd like to belief that wilbur isn't effected by the loop since he is not on the server, so if he ever returns he would be the only one who can remember the old dream smp. Maybe also foolish keepe his memories considering he is a demi god. He just didn't interact with anyone befor beside eret so he would not know that the server gets reset. Maybe also connor bc it would be funny.

Even if I am wrong about all this, a saw a lot of takes on the ending that kinda saved it for me? Considering that tommy raged about cdream defenders in his offline chat before I think it wasn't intentional made to sympathize with cdream. Was it well executed? Not at all but again, the people on the dream smp are not writers in any way and I can see how it was hard to convey the message they wanted to give. I am already happy with alot of stuff that happened and the way ctommys character was handled. Because after all, ctommy is a compassinate person who always tries to see the best in people(we have seen that many times in people like techno or wilbur) who tries to belief there is good in everyone and that even small speeks of good are worth fighting for. No matter how much cdream hurt ctommy, he wanted to do all he could to not have to kill him in the end. Unfortunatly it was too late the moment tommy stepped into that prison.

i thought ccwilbur said "ctommy was written as the main character in my writing" ? he also said he saw cquackity as the main character in the ravine.. i see it as ccwilbur expressing how he planned out his characters story around others by using certain characters as main characters in his own text, i dont see it as him saying it "ctommy is the main character" <- no hate twards you at all just saw some people saying it as well when ccwil was not saying it like that at least to my understanding

yeah that's a fair interpretation honestly, i could have misinterpreted the summary i saw as i missed that part of the stream and wrote that post at four am with the beginnings of a migraine lol

i just personally dislike the "[x] is the main character of the dsmp" thing at all- its just not how a group roleplay works. i've played in group roleplay games since i was eleven and on paigeeworld and im still in one of those groups from that time! it would be fantastically rude of me to call my character or any other character the main character of that roleplay, because there are other players right there alongside me who have their own arcs and plotlines. and you can say this about any group roleplay or tabletop rpg- like you wouldn't say that taako is the main character of the adventure zone balance, for example, because magnus and merle are also right there and have their own character arcs and plotlines! the medium itself makes it so that this way of describing a character is inaccurate and reductive to all other characters

and i don't mean this to dunk on ccwil or criticize the way he plans or the arcs he wrote- i just think that saying it like that just kinda sucks, and also is a part of the ccrimeboys centric view that a lot of the fandom has that leads to "side" characters and smaller streamers getting ignored yknow?
