Martyn said he considers his celestial body to be a meteor or comet, and it made me think about this. Always moving, always crashing, never able to find a home to rest.

So I see you often on Twitter and on here ranting about Ranchers so I got to ask. Why do you love em so much as a fellow romantic rancher shipper?

The most appealing thing about ranchers in my opinion, and it’s doesn’t have to be seen as a romantic thing, is how they both treated each other in Double Life despite how things went in their previous teams.

Jimmy in third life with Scott was treated horribly (and I’m so tired of fanon erasing their toxic & abusive aspects). Not only does Jimmy get bullied by the entire server, but his own teammate, deemed “flowerhusband”, was going around behind his back and trashing his builds. Not to mention Jimmy telling Martyn “If he (Scott) starts hitting me what can I do y’know”. And, maybe controversial take, but the southlands were not great either for Jimmy. Tango, never really had something stable in 3rd life, and he was constantly used in Last Life and betrayed by one his closest allies while his whole team did nothing and watched, sometimes even encouraging the behavior.

You’d think after all that they would have their own divorce quarter arc but they didn’t. Both of them were constantly apologizing for their deaths and things they did, while the other reassured them and stayed by their side. They uplifted each other and complimented each other’s builds. They were always making sure to hear the other out and get their opinion on things and allowed each other to go out and act independently, not trying to trap each other in a box to survive and not die first. In my opinion, they were the healthiest pairing in Double Life- and dare I say team-up in the whole life series. It’s a death game and yet they somehow made it sickeningly sweet and domestic.

After Double Life, it really looks like their partnership healed a part of the ranchers. Jimmy and Tango have both been doing amazing since, both performance wise and team wise- knowing what to expect and how to handle it. There might be some small hiccups here and there, but that’s all part of the healing process and moving forward.

I’ve actually been meaning to write a whole essay going into depth about their relationship & dynamic through the life series and explaining how healthy and beautiful it is. One day I’ll get it done…
