Lute and Ratha1 Headcanons
Mostly cobbled together from the vibes I get from them in where I currently am in game (Geo-Fulkright), and what I hope is happening with him in the timeskip and through what's going on in MHST2.
Lute
local mountain child off the see the world (voluntarily)
His parents were craftsmen and so weren't bound to the Riders' Code of never being able to leave the village. Unfortunately, they passed away when Lute was very young, so rather than recalling the exact details of stories from the outside world that they would have surely told him, he just has a fierce longing for it that he can't quite explain properly.
Loves a good city walk whenever he gets to a new place. He wants to see all the popular spots and eat the local cuisine. His coinpurse is always a little flat from buying souvenirs to send back to his friends.
His base state of being is that of a real easy-going sort of fellow. It has somehow been amped up since living in Reverto's house in Gildegaren. This initially distressed Popola, who already has to deal with ONE Reverto, but thankfully Lute seems chronically incapable of staying home long enough to create a messy house.
Since Reverto moved to Lulucion, Lute's taken over Reverto's house in Gildegaren as his base of operations when he's in the city. You can tell when he's in town because his Velocidrome can be found at the harbor, trying to convince the sailors to slip him a treat.
"Mr. Lute can you please stable your dinosaur?" "Oh my bad, let me get on that right now." Now repeat this process multiple times a day. The Velocidrome is having a refreshing drink in the town fountain. It is what it is.
Can cook and is quite good at it!
Used to be a crybaby as a child. He doesn't cry nearly as much nowadays, but he's definitely the most open about showing when he's down when compared to Lilia and Cheval.
Lent his Viper Bite to Cheval when the latter was investigating a Nergigante in Terga. There's a decorative eye on it, see? It'll be like he's also there taking in the sights.
He does try to maintain a neater hairstyle just because he's on the go so often and it annoys him when it gets all over the place (he truly does not understand how Cheval handled it free for so long). But he's also a bit vain and didn't want to cut it all short, so he maintains a fade and lets the rest grow long enough to be tied back. Now he looks "stylishly windswept."
He looks scrawny but there's a shocking amount of weight behind his punches. Please I hope we can punch Cheval I didn't get to punch Kyle and I still feel robbed of that let me punch the rival.
Wears modified Arzuros armor if he's not dressed down in his Hakum village wear. (I am trying to see how far I can get without changing armors because I just like the look of it the best OK)
It won't be until he's older that he can freely admit that he didn't take Cheval seriously enough when the latter first started talking about leaving the village. He thought that it was in line with Lilia, who was thinking about her future options and daydreaming of the big wide world, like he did. It makes Lute uncomfortable to consider how his venture out of Hakum Village would have been like if he had been more attentive to Cheval, mostly because he's not confident that he would have looked for Cheval with any more urgency even if he had.
Ratha
The Black Blight has stunted his growth. Spending the better part of a year and a half living on his own while attempting to suppress the Blight has also upped his naturally aggressive tendencies. Fully grown, he's a small gold crown.
Always walks behind Lute's right shoulder so that Lute covers his blind side. His hearing is also a bit muffled on that side after taking Dr. Manelger's attack head on, so it's reassuring to have his Rider there.
Always curls up counter-clockwise to cover his blind side.
Occasionally plops down next to Lute when they're out camping so that he can drop his head into Lute's lap. He's making up for a year and a half's worth of lost snuggles.
Popular with the sailors at Gildegaren port, who love to rib him about that time he dropped in and caused havoc among the cargo.
Deeply distrusts Nargacuga
Enjoys making Cheval's life difficult as payback for the Incidents he'd been put through, much to Rathi's exasperated ire.
Loves a cuddle with Rathi, when circumstances permit.
#one day I will have a thing where Lute and Astrea meet#mostly because I think it would be hilarious for Astrea to have to explain about that one time people thought she was him#Lute of course already heard about the whole thing from Avinia#And also finds it hilarious#must be a Rathalos rider thing#mhs lute#mhs ratha#monster hunter stories

Things the newly self-aware Pokemon gang have heard the Voice™️/God say:
“No! Stop eating your own shit, I just built you an outhouse! I run a cult full of idiots…” (Cult of the Lamb)
“Who would ever think that statuette was a clock?!“ “Seriously, judge?! I accidentally use the evidence I already presented and that got me sent to jail?” (Phoenix Wright game.)
“No wonder nobody messed with Kirby… He’s the reincarnation of a universe destroyer...” (Kirby Star Allies)
“Brilliant decision making me a grass type when every boss is flying or, I don’t know, supereffective against grass, Gardevoir.” (Rescue Team DX)
“Could the imposters escape extreme air jail if they linked their… tentacles or appendages or whatevers together?” (Amongus)
“On one hand, I saved a Rathalos before. On the other, I’m helping to exploit the species for materials now. Ratha would be so angry considering I had to save him from his evil eye infection.” (Monster Hunter Stories vs Monster Hunter)
“Have the generic ghosts just forgotten who they were or…? A little worrying they aren’t like the ghost family from the first game.” (Luigi’s Mansion.)
“Don’t tempt me to do a Genocide run, Sans. I’m getting a little sick of Undyne kicking my ass and hearing the soul shattering sound.” (Undertale)
“Huh. I really do spawn rain often.” (Scribblenauts).
“Yaaaaaaaaay. Frisk/Chara can finally touch grass by possession.” (Deltarune.)
“…I hate you, Nook. But I get to live rent-free on a private island I can literally shape however much I want. So, you are spared for today.” (Animal Crossing: New Horizons.)
“This feels illegal.” (Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, getting the gift Mew and gift Jiriachi in Floraroma Town).
[Basically, the Voice clearly manages a lot of worlds and poke-gang has no context.]
It's a constant guessing game and can cause humerous moments.
Though it's often just confusing if they only get bits and pieces.
Some chalk it up to you being a god, so of course they aren't going to understand your musings. Why would they? Clearly you are overseeing something, and talking about it, or to it!
...But depending on if they can or can't see what you are doing, it definitely leaves a lot open to interpretation...

Here’s another post of me rambling about Monster hunter stories 3 ideas:
So i see a lot of people complain about every stories game forcing us to have a Rathalos, and not just any other Rathalos, a Rathalos named Ratha that we can’t change it’s name (🖕🏾), the idea i had in mind is most likely not really changing it (since i feel like it’d be impossible for the devs to give us a choice with the main monsties) or even less likely to happen, but, What if the main monstie of the story was a SEREGIOS?

Recently, I’ve started to predict amongst myself (in private, not on the internet, you missed nothing) what the monster hunter stories 3 would look like, and of course it’d definitely not be like that because when i imagine it, i imagine how my FANFICTION would play out, and of course, as we all know, the Arsism AU adds more to the story than it is in-game and sometimes makes big changes in the game (like Cheval lecturing Ena instead of Vyffor and even comforts Vyffor who got scared from his loud tone which is straight up wholesome, or like MHST1 having 2 protagonists instead of 1, or like the Ebon riders having a fifth member who’s Sam’s evil uncle, or like the stories 1 protagonists, the stories 2 protagonist and Red all being related, and of course: the protagonists + Red being anthropomorphic animals instead of humans, it may not be that much in stories 1, but in stories 2 it really affects the story since Zellard is literally racist against HUMANS), so that is most likely not gonna happen, tbh if there’s ever gonna be a main monstie thats not a Rathalos i feel like it’ll be either Rathian (cuz FEMALE Rathalos) or Tigrex (cuz is the mascot as well), so in my mind, i imagine the protagonists (which i currently plan for 2 protagonists trope again, except they are unrelated to Vyffor’s lineage, so it’ll be a fresh start, it feels complicated to make all protagonists + Red related to each other in a game like this) to have a Seregios, this Seregios is unique, i can’t come up with whats special about this Seregios (can be another scar like in stories 1, can be another special power like in stories 2, can be whatever), this Seregios is named “Serge”, Serge is gonna take the Ratha role, of course: i have absolutely NOTHING against Rathalos, it is my favourite monster in the whole franchise, but i find the concept of having another main monstie pretty interesting

Welcome to my Roleplay blog! This blog belongs to @atlaswingsofruin ! My pronouns are He/Him, im a nature lover, im a mhst fan, i an a trans, im pretty new to roleplaying with people who aren’t my family or people who aren’t Character AI, im pretty shy so i never actually had the courage to actually try, but now i wanna try! Im a bit lazy, im below 18 and i am in high school so i don’t always have time for roleplaying, i roleplay with everyone, mutuals or not, but i may change things later on, i will start with roleplaying with either pokemon RP blogs or Monster hunter stories RP blogs, I’ll be roleplaying as all my Monster hunter Stories OCs & their monsties, heres explanation about them:
Vyffor: Vyffor is the protagonist of monster hunter stories 2 and is the son of the 2 legendary riders that saved the world from the black blight (Sam & Sivan), he is a furry, and not the way you know, furries are a species of anthropomorphic animals who have both human & animalistic mentality and can survive in both nature & human environment, its all their choice of course, his fur is white, he has red & blue mane, has golden eyes, has a pink-ish mark on his belly & some purple stripes, he is very thin due to living in the streets & not having enough food to eat, he used to live with his grandfather Red but when he died he couldn’t afford an house anymore & was too young to even start working so he had to live in the streets, he was also bullied by some kids of the village, his relationship with Kayna was not the best (lets say) but Kayna still cared for him, but after he beat Oltura Cheval adopted him (before knowing he is Vyffor’s adoptive grandfather because he was Sivan’s adoptive father) & Kyle became his boyfriend, they both also had a child later on, the child is Kiri, who is also a furry.
Sam: Sam is Sivan’s boyfriend, he’s a furry, his fur black with some white markings, purple stripes, yellow mane & red eyes, he’s very violent towards anyone who dares to even TRY hurt Sivan, he’s usually very bitter towards everyone but to Sivan he’s very gentle, but will be nice to people who he likes, he holds a grudge against Cheval & Gale (that anime-exclusive character who’s Avinia’s brother) even though they both changed already, his mother is dead & his father, Red, left divorced his mother before her death (but did not hate her nor she hated him), his Uncle, Hayato, was intentionally killed by him, Sivan & the crew because he’s a fucking bloodthirsty psychopath.
Sivan: Sivan is Sam’s girlfriend, she’s a furry, her fur is white with some black markings, purple stripes, blue mane & blue eyes, she’s very gentle & has a lot of patience, but will not tolerate evil people, she’s Cheval’s adoptive daughter, her biological mother is dead & her biological father, Hayato, was intentionally killed by her & the crew cuz he caused only harm to everyone, she hates seeing her friends fight with each other & tries to be the mediator role, usually between Sam & Cheval/Gale.
Ender: Ender is Sam & Sivan’s son & Vyffor’s brother, he’s lives in a completely different island than everyone, in the Serpentis Terra island, where the 2 legendary serpent monsters who created everything lives, he used to live with Cheval but Cheval was dealing with his trauma from the black blight & had severe anger issues & threw it out on Ender, causing him to leave & run away with a girl named Alice.
Vyffor’s monsties: Losi (Razewing Rathalos), Kadachi (Tobi Kadachi), Nidhogg (Grimclaw Tigrex), Dylan (Lagiacrus), Lil Kitten (Nargacuga), Mizu (Mizutsune) & Laika (Dragon Palamute)
Sivan’s monsties: Ratha (one eyed Rathalos), Ivory (Ivory Lagiacrus), Avmar (Velocidrome), Sandfang (Sand Barioth), Zing (Zinogre) & Arzu (Arzuros).
Sam’s monsties: Ruthi (Rathian), Coldflame (Silver Rathalos) & Sunny (Gold Rathian).
Ender’s monsties: Kitsune (an Pluma Ignifera, an original monster species made by me), Velkhana & Paolumu.

Mari presents him an inked sheet of leather, fastened with twine to the tip of a rathalos's quill. The scale itself is a wild, sapphire blue, meaning that it must have come straight from one of Ratha's wing joints. The leather strip is inscribed with indiscernible runes, likely Mari's written language. "Back home, we carry these charms for good luck. If you stumble upon a shedscale or a tooth of a rathalos out there, it means the spirits are keeping a good eye on you." She fastens the charm to the red strap on the joint of his prosthetic. "Of course, it helps to have a rathalos around so you can use shedscales to make charms for friends. Consider it a gift from Red, as well."
"You really didn't have to get me anything, you know?" Vash chuckles before watching as she attaches it carefully onto his prosthetic. When it came to his Birthday it was only something Brad and Luida celebrated with him so to have more than just them wishing him a good day and getting him something? It was new but something he wasn't against completely.
When she takes a step back he's quick to look at the charm before turning his gaze back to her and offering her a gentle smile. "Thank you, though. I really like it."

*slams hands on table* YOU PLAY MH STORIES????? I THOUGHT YOU ONLY PLAYED THE MAINLINE MH GAMES OH MY GOD
OF COURSE I PLAY STORIES IT'S MY FAV MONSTER HUNTER GAME IT'S SOOOO GOOD
I have spent... way too much time playing it. I went in completely blind after playing the demo (oh my God I just realised I got the full game a few days after it came out) and like... I have so many memories with it! It's how I know about most of the monsters too, like Seregios, Diavolo and... actually no, I got further in this than Gen XD

97hrs oh my God-

And my team before I left. I had a Blue Yian Kut Ku from the demo and two different Azure rathalos, one named Miku before I realised they were all male XD
I remember spending time grinding egg fragments so I had the highest chance of getting the Silver Rathalos and managed to get it in my first egg and I freaked out XD Sadly ended up with his special gene where the one in the tower has it (in the middle) but I don't care I love him
Oh! And I remember having a neat strategy for online battles that utilised Ratha's Savage Fireball while I used Spreading Beam to take out lotsa enemies at once
But yeah! Used to play Monster Hunter Stories! I might get into it again someday, but I should probably play MHS2 XD
#after seeing your ask i rushed to find my 3ds#the amount of serotonin that filled me when i saw it cannot be described djdbdnsk#such a fun game...#the gene feature made searching for new monsties so worth it#dont think i ever finished the post game cause jeez theres a lot to do XD#but yeah! mhs good!!!#thanks for the ask!!!#answer box#mhs#kirsten plays

One thing I hate about mhs2 is the fact that they took away everything that made Ratha unique. His cool fire wings? Nope. The unique animation for savage fireball and his kinship skill you see during the [REDACTED] fight? Nope.
And literally the scene of him saving you was cool and everything, but he should've at least kept his stunted wings. They could've let us have him as he was, and maybe like he could use the fire wings when flying or smth. But of course instead he just ends up being a slightly different rathalos reskin that you're likely to replace the second you can.
#his wings were so much prettier before they 'healed'#they reminded me of a crows feathers#mhstories2#mhst2 spoilers#mhs2 spoilers#mhs2#monster hunter stories 2 spoilers#monster hunter stories 2

MonHun Stories Ask Game
Since I’m really excited for the release of MHST: Wings of Ruin in July, I thought I’d make an ask game based on the first Stories game! These asks are written primarily for platonic and familial F/O’s, but can still be applied to romantic F/O’s when necessary!
This is the first ask game I’ve done, so I hope people at least have fun with it!
Remember to practice reblog karma if you want to take part in my ask game! :>
✨ The Black Blight - Is your F/O a villain? Or did they become one over the course of their canon story? Would they still treat you the same why they did when they were good and would you be willing to join them by their side if given the chance?
✨ Egg Carton - Do you have any F/O’s who are familial to you? Siblings/cousins/parents/grandparents etc. Why do you view them that way? Do they play a role in your selfship stories in any way?
✨ Hakum Village - Which F/O do you turn to when you need comforting, letting you know you’re loved and appreciated? And, how do they soothe you? Blankets/hot chocolate/move night etc.
✨ Kinship Attack - Who is your closest and dearest non-romantic F/O? How long have you been friends for and if one of you was in danger, what would you do to protect the other?
✨ Navirou the Felyne - Does your F/O have any hidden abilities that are with them from the start, or suddenly activate during their canon story? Do they gain any new skills/abilites in your selfship and how?
✨ The Numbers - Oh no! The Big Bad is about to destroy the world and only you and your F/O’s can stop it! As a team of 6, yourself included, which F/O’s are you bringing with you to stop the villain and why?
✨ Ratha the Rathalos - If you F/O had been forced to turn evil but you were the key to bringing them back, what would you do to snap them out of it?
✨ Rite of Channeling - Is there something about your F/O (personality/design/backstory etc.) that you would change permanently? Alternatively, how much do you change your F/O from canon to your selfship?
✨ The Scriveners - If put together in one room, how would 5 F/O’s of your choosing get on? Would they be calm and civil, or would they end up annoying one another?
✨ The White Dragon - Are any of your F/O’s viewed as gods/powerful entities? Are they respected or feared? And, do people know you have a relationship of some kind with this F/O and if so, how are you treated because of it?
💩 Pros/hippers go eat sh!t somewhere else 💩

Niké i have a few questions about Rider culture after talking to a few Hunters that, not to mince words, don't take too kindly to Riders. If Riders are meant to maintain the balance of nature, isn't the act of stealing eggs from monsters considered going against such ideals? Also what if the monster wakes up and attacks and dies defending the nest? Doesn't that mean the whole nest is doomed now that the mother is dead and negatively impacts the population? Also isn't it rather cruel to raise monsters and then force them to fight their own species? Finally, I heard the Kinship Stone forcefully stunts the growth of 'Monsties', since they're so small. Is that true?

“Okay, we’re going to go down the list one by one.
No, it is not. We look for nests where we are definitely sure it won’t upset anything, and also it helps handle overpopulation in areas. Not every monster in the world is suitable for riding or hatching.
Most of the time, the mother or father is gone. And that means taking the egg can happen with no consequences. If they happen to wake up or come back, at least in my case, I just blind them with a flash bomb and leave. I don’t like killing the parents if I can help it.
The idea you think we raise them simply to fight is misguided and disrespectful....as well as your assumptions about Kinship Stone.....”

“I’ll start with the Kinship Stone..” She holds up her own. “It bonds us to our partners, it’s not controlling, it’s a partnership. It doesn’t stunt any growth as far as I know. If you look at Ratha, he’s normal for his age. He’s about five now, and he looks like a five year old Rathalos.
And the fact you think we use them just to fight is very disrespectful. Of course, we ride them to protect our villages. I know in Hakum we use them to patrol the areas around the village. We have Aptenoth to help us plow, or various other functions. We are grateful for their help, and we show them this appreciation in everything we do.”

“It is hard to change the opinions of others when it’s been ingrained in them for so long. Thats why I try to make sure Hunters understand that we want the same thing: survival and to make sure the balance of nature in the process. The only difference is our methods. Riders were originally Hunters after all...
In any case, I hope that cleared some things up. I’m not an expert Rider or anything...”

(The foes the first group was dealing with found that, with their “prey” no longer bound and ambushed, they were no longer the “hunters”. The Predacons present were not holding back, especially with Predaking still captured. The monsters, similarly, were angry enough to not run away, and thus let loose (after feeding on some kept food, of course). Ratha also was particularly set on protecting the eggs he took an interest in…and soon a flash of green passed by. It wasn’t Plasma, however (different group). No…it was a Rathian, who had come to protect her eggs…the same ones Ratha was guarding. The two Wyverns shared a brief look after quickly putting two and two together, then went right back to tearing into enemy forces. Meanwhile, the second group kept getting deeper into the castle, Uzi leading the charge. Soon enough, Waspinator noticed a certain familiar detail…one he knew would lead to Predaking. As for the final group…the Crimson Gaurd was tough, but the group was tougher. That…and Plasma was extra hungry today.)
Ross: Are all the charges there set? *Sanford had placed the final charge after having used his hook to get the spot quicker* Great! We should probably move back a good bit since I have no clue how big the explosion will be.
*Eberwolf had translated what Ross had said to the monsters present so they could all get away from the explosion*
(Meanwhile with Group 2)
Waspinator: Wait!! Thizzz is Masked-bug's throne room!...But where izz he?...*The two things that were in the room still was the cocoon Predaking was in and a note on the throne itself that said "Meet me at the top of my kingdom's castle."*
Jackrow, after readying his blade: Even if he expected us to come, we'll still bring him down...*He soon slashed a large enough opening for the king of the Predacons to come out*...I didn't accidentally cut him, did I-?
*A giant metallic dragon that reminded the heroes of a rathalos but much bigger had soon burst forth and when a battalion of insects had arrived, Predaking had incinerated them all with white hot plasma...He soon turned to them with a piercing look in his eyes*
Uzi: He knows that we're on his side right?...(Serial designation N:...Maybe...?)
Predaking, after noticing Jackrow's Spirit blade: You chose to free me from this prison, for what purpose?
Jackrow: We need all the help we can get in order to defeat King Hive Blight once and for all! Do you wish to help us?
(Meanwhile with Group 3)
*Suddenly, more Insecticons had arrived!...Looking like they've been running a marathon...Which to be fair, it would feel like that if you were running away from a dragon mech riding Golden Mantis...And low and behold, The same mantis was here now*
Luz: Is that a dragon mech?!

Monster Hunter: Open Ocean chapter 2 ( One Piece x Monster Hunter Stories)
"I wanted the Dragon Lady to join us", Luffy pouted.
SMACK!
"Owww! What was that for?!", Luffy whined, holding his head where Nami and Sanji had smacked/kicked him.
"First she threatened to kill us!", Nami shouted angrily, "Second, we don't have room for a dragon!"
Nami regained her composure after a moment, if only slightly.
"Besides, we're just here to get supplies, then it's off the Little Garden", Nami explained, "Getting Vivi to Alabasta is our top priority. Anyways, she said there was a village here, guess we just follow the path."
The Straw Hats trekked up the path leading away from the cove. The forest around them seemed to bustle with small animals, and giant trees towered above the rest of the forest. As Vivi knelt down to pick a small, pink flower, a nearby bush began to rustle. She went to take a closer look, when suddenly something jumped out.
It was a bipedal feline creature, with tan fur marked with dark brown, including a paw print on its belly. In its paws it held a large egg almost as big as its body.
Suddenly two more creatures jumped out of the bushes, and they did NOT look friendly. They stood almost as tall as Luffy, and were light blue with horizontal, dark blue stripes running along their backs. Their slender faces were yellow, and an orange crest topped their heads. Their most terrifying features were their slender jaws lined with needle sharp teeth, and their talons, seven on each hand and four on each foot.
"NYAAA!", The cat shrieked, "GO AWAY BIRD BRAINS!"
The raptor like creatures lunged at the cat, who swiftly jumped and dodged, using the head of one raptor as a springboard. The other raptor snapped its jaws and the cat pivoted mid jump, just barely avoiding having its tail bitten clean off. Still holding the egg, the cat landed and began running, disappearing into the bushes with the two raptors chasing it.
"Well that was weird", Sanji commented, "anyways, we should get go-"
"NYAAA! COMING THROUGH!"
The crew looked to see the cat emerge from another set of bushes, with the two raptors still chasing it. This time another raptor had joined in the chase as well. The three raptors all lunged at the cat, who quickly jumped to avoid their jaws. The three raptors crashed into the underbrush, and several loud squawks were heard.
"Phew, that was close", the cat said, wiping his brow, "Thought they were actually gonna catch me."
He then puffed his chest out in pride.
"I mean, not like they could actually catch me, the great Navirou!", the cat declared confidently. Navirou then noticed Luffy and co.
"Sorry about that folks, just dealing with some persistent Velociprey", Navirou explained, "I swear those guys never give up. So, who are you guys?"
"I'm Luffy, and I'm gonna be king of the pirates", Luffy stated boldly, "and these guys are my crew."
The others introduced themselves to Navirou.
"So what were those things exactly?", Nami asked, referring to the Velociprey.
"They're monsters called Velociprey. They're bird wyverns that hunt in packs led by a Velocidrome. Thankfully their boss isn't around otherwise we'd be in-", Navirou started, but froze when he felt something behind him.
He slowly turned around, and paled when he saw a Velocidrome towering over him. It looked much like a Velociprey, but with a larger, brighter crest, longer claws, and it was much taller, taller than Zoro even. Navirou gulped nervously.
"Trouble", he said nervously, finishing his earlier statement. He tried to slowly back away, but the Velocidrome let out a loud screeching roar, causing Navirou to stumble back in a panic. He was about to use his lightning powers, when suddenly he heard Luffy shout.
"Gum gum…PISTOL!"
Luffy pulled his arm back and punched forward, causing his arm to stretch like a rubber band and driving his fist into the Velocidrome's face. The impact sent the bird wyvern flying into a nearby tree, knocking it out. Navirou's jaw dropped at the sight of the unconscious Velocidrome. He'd never seen anyone take down a monster with just a single punch.
"HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!", Navirou exclaimed, "NO HUMAN CAN STRETCH LIKE THAT!"
"I ate the Gum Gum fruit", Luffy said cheerfully, "Now I'm a rubber man."
"How does that work?", Navirou questioned.
"Haven't you heard of Devil Fruits?", Luffy asked.
"Nope", Navirou replied, "I'm not exactly from around here. Me and my pawtner just wound up here about 2 weeks ago."
"Pawtner?", Zoro questioned.
"Yeah! She's a super awesome monster rider!", Navirou shouted with glee, "You've gotta meet her!"
Grabbing the egg, Navirou jumped up onto Luffy's shoulder.
"Come on, the village is just up ahead. There shouldn't be anymore monsters", Navirou said.
…
"So much for those pirates being a threat", I huffed, checking the sharpness of one of the spikes on my sword, "They're just passing through. Still, that Alabasta place sounds like a great place to find a challenge. I think they said that guy's name was Crocodile, right? Maybe he'd be a worthy foe."
I set my great sword down and took off my helmet.
"I hope Navirou didn't run into any trouble. That Velocidrome is still out there."
I stood up and grabbed my sword, before heading into town.
"Better go check and see if he made it back."
…
"We're here!", Navirou exclaimed, hopping off of Luffy's shoulder. Of course, the villagers seemed less than enthusiastic to see pirates wandering about their settlement.
"Why is everyone acting all scared?", Navirou wondered, noticing the nervous villagers.
"According to that dragon rider woman, the villagers think we're here to attack them", Zoro explained.
"Dragon rider? Oh, you guys met my pawtner then", Navirou said, "She's the coolest isn't she?" His eyes sparkled.
"She's…something", Zoro and Usopp remarked, remembering how she had almost taken Zoro's head off.
"Navirou!", a familiar voice called out. Both the pirates and the villagers turned to see the silver-clad hunter walking towards them, "Good to see you made it back!"
"SAURUS!", Navirou cried out with joy. He ran over to her and jumped into her arms. "These guys saved me from that Velocidrome.". Saurus looked up at Luffy's crew. "Is that so?", she questioned.
"Luffy knocked it out with a single punch! It was so cool!", Navirou explained, eyes sparkling.
Saurus's eyes widened at that. A single punch?! Just what was this kid?
"I see why the villagers were scared of you", Saurus said, "Taking down a monster with just a punch is almost unheard of, even if it was just a Velocidrome. Still, you did save Navirou, so it's pretty obvious you aren't all bad."
Saurus then turned to the villagers.
"Pirate kid and his friends are alright, let them stay", she said, "They aren't here to cause trouble."
The villagers seemed wary at first, unsure if they should let the pirates stay.
"Glad to see you finally made some friends, Saurus", an elderly voice said.
The group turned to see an elderly woman emerge from the crowd.
"They are hardly my friends, elder Kirika", Saurus said, "They just saved Navirou, that's all."
"Whatever you say dear", Kirika replied, turning to Luffy, "I am elder Kirika, chief of Kori Village. I apologize if the others are wary of your presence, we've had trouble with pirates before. They and the marines frequently come and harass us, taking our supplies, so we do not frequently tolerate newcomers."
"Saurus and I chased some of those guys away last week", Navirou explained. Kirika nodded. "These two have become sort of like our protectors", she said.
"Well, we're not here to steal", Nami said, "We just need to restock and wait for the log pose to reset."
Kirika nodded once more. "You are welcome to stay at my home for the time being. Saurus and Navirou are staying there as well. My home has plenty of room, so don't worry."
…
The Straw Hats followed Kirika, Saurus and Navirou to the house in the woods. Inside the house it was quite spacious, with several bedrooms, which Kirika explained were more frequently used when the island received peaceful visitors. However, the number of invasions in recent months have reduced those visitors' numbers significantly.
In the main room there was a fireplace, a table, and several chairs surrounding it. There was a medium sized kitchen, and a dining room which a table that could seat all of them comfortably. Once everyone was settled in they decided to go out and explore the village.
"If they are going out, so am I", Saurus said, "Besides, that Velocidrome is probably awake by now and needs to be slain."
Saurus grabbed her silver Rathalos sword, put on her helmet, and left. She called for Ratha, who flew over to her. She hopped on his back and they took off to hunt down the Velocidrome.

“Is that so?” Doriane would ask, giving Ratha a look-over. It’s actually quite odd; a rath wyvern of this size wouldn’t usually display such clear sexual dimorphism. Usually they’d have rather drab colouring, and there would neither be the chin spike nor jaw crest that these wyverns are known for as adults. That was beside the point, though, and Doriane would hesitantly reach out a hand to Ratha, only to change her mind about whatever she wanted to do and retract it.
“… Well, nice to meet you, Niké,” she’d then mumble, loud enough to be heard, and perhaps still trying to figure out what had this young Rathalos mature so quickly. “The name’s Doriane. And, well, sure. Always happy to teach what I know.”
With that said, Doriane would reach into a bag slung over her back, pulling out a large, thick book positively overflowing. She’d then sit onto the ground, opening the book over her lap, her gaze turning back to Niké in order to ask, “What is it you wanna know?”
Ratha eyes her warily for a moment, and was content to let her touch him if she wanted. She seemed like a calm person, and with Niké obviously excited about meeting her, how could he try and nip at her? He almost seems disappointed when she moves her hand away. Aww.
Niké however, is still beaming with excitement, and digging through her bag to pull out her own book, looking worn but well-cared for, and sit across from Doriane. She would see that the book was written in, dogeared and generally well-used, with a few, rather inelegant, drawings of monsters in them. She flips to a new page, and Ratha moves to lay down next to Niké head near her knee and watching Spike carefully as the two humans conversed.
“Thank you!” She starts, before getting right into questioning. “What does a Nergigante usually eat? Is there anything they don’t like? Are there any differences between males and females? Have you ever seen what a baby one looks like?” Of course, she’d have to ask about the babies, and Ratha makes a noise that almost would sound like a chuckle.
“Are there any other Elder Dragons from the New World?”

The only reply the rider would receive was an ear-shattering roar, one somehow louder than the warning he gave initially. It was almost as if he said, “Fuck your donuts!” as he took an earth-shaking step forward, every fibre in his body thoroughly angered. He shifted weight on his hind legs, looking just about ready to lunge forward and crush her head like a grape!
He leaned back…!
“STOP!!!!!”
Another voice sounded, one deep yet distinctly feminine. The Nergigante visibly flinched at the shout, and he gave another snarl. This one, however, seemed more along the lines of annoyed rather than agitated, and he’d look up to the source of the shout. It was a woman, perhaps in her early thirties, sliding down a steep slope towards the conflicting pair.
“Spike!! How many times have I told you not to run off like that?!” her tone was loud and scolding, and the Nergigante seemed to almost pout like a teenager being told off by their parent. “And! How many times have I told you not to pick fights when I’m not around?!?”
By now the taller woman was by the elder dragon’s side, giving a deep sigh as one hand rubbed the back of her head while the other would be placed on Spike’s snout. She’d then turn her gaze to the young girl, giving a meek smile.
“… Sorry about that. He tends to, uh… He’s generally not that aggressive.”
A lie. A complete and utter lie.
Niké had covered her ears from the roar and braced herself for the worst before she realized that the inevitable wasn’t happening. When she looks up, she sees the woman and her eyes nearly sparkle at the fact that the monster had stopped when she told it to (she didn’t even see a Kinship stone!). It was obvious her Rathalos had heard the roar, because he had flown down mere seconds after the woman had stopped her monster and stood protectively in front of Niké.
“Ratha, no!”
Niké has to hold the Rathalos back, and calm him down, whispering that she is okay and she wasn’t hurt (although undoubtedly shaken from the encounter). When he calms down, but still standing in front of her, she regards the older woman with a smile of her own.
“What is he? I never seen a monster like that before! He’s so...angry...and spiky.” Of course, she’s not worried about almost dying. Of course not.
