An African forest elephant in Odzala-Kokoua National Park, Western Cuvette Department, Republic of Congo. Long listed as a subspecies, the African forest elephant is now considered to be its own species. Africa therefore has two different elephant species, the Africa savanna elephant and the African forest elephant. Does anyone know the main differences between these two species? #africanforestelephant #forestelephant #elephant #pachyderm #odzala #odzalakokoua #odzalakokouanationalpark #congo #africa #mammal #mammalsofinstagram #wildlife #wildlifephotography #wildlifeplanet #wildlifeaddicts #wildlifeconservation #animal #animallovers #nature #naturephotography #naturelover #naturephotographer #mammal #wildlife #animal #tropicalforest #rainforest #africageo #africanparks #AfricaGeoPhoto #yourshotphotographer (at Parc National d'Odzala-Kokoua, Congo) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUtGM9YgwLF/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Good Life by Daniël Nelson, The Netherlands
Daniël met Caco in Odzala national park in the Republic of Congo. Here, Caco is feasting on a fleshy breadfruit. He is about nine years old and preparing to leave his family. Western lowland gorillas are critically endangered, threatened by illegal hunting for bushmeat, disease (notably the Ebola virus), habitat loss and the impact of climate change.

Repost from @africanparksnetwork Did you know that the African Grey Parrot, one of the world’s most popular avian pets, is an Endangered species? Populations are undergoing rapid decline across most of their range in Africa due to trapping for the bird trade, with between 2 and 3 million taken from the wild in the last 40 years. Last year their international trade was banned when 95 nations voted to award them the highest level of protection at the CoP17 conference in Johannesburg. We’re working to monitor and secure these gorgeous birds in Congo’s Odzala-Kokoua National Park.
