i randomly stumbled upon a 2010 kids movie based on a book series id never heard of called "Rainbow Magic: Return to Rainspell Island"

based solely on the art style looking nice i decided to watch it and ended up on a rainbow magic rabbit hole. The movie is standard kids stuff but i do really like the art style and its even got a bit of magical girl feel to it. the girls have to basically save their gay fairy friends from the Ice King while being bullied irl by other girls for believing in fairies. they stand up to the bullies and save the day. its a cute movie and it looks pretty nice animation wise. i find it really interesting that they had a japanese studio producing it despite being a british series? i kinda wish there was more.

anyways from there i got curious and decided to go "what is rainbow magic" and spent like 30 minutes scrolling through the literally 200+ fairies in the book series. my friends further informed me that greta thunberg is a fairy as well

last but not least i came back on here to tumblr to see if there was any fan stuff. blessedly i found some Rainbow Magic memes which is everything i could want. furthermore apparently a lot of the fandom turned out gay and autistic? stellar work, could not be more proud

so uh can you talk more about those tags you left on the rise of the guardians post. I barely remember that movie but I remember thinking all the characters were oddly fuckable. clearly some deeper thoughts were at work in you though

ok so this was in the peace corps, i hope that explains at least half of why my brain was already nonfunctional.

rise of the guardians was one of maybe 30 movies I had dowloaded onto my hard drive from the communal volunteer library while I didn't have access to any kind of streaming service. there was a second secret volunteer movie library that was roughly 1 full terabyte of porn that admin didn't know about but we're not going to talk about that.

I was living in a house for I think $80/month, sleeping bag on a floor mattress kind of situation with no insulation in the walls. the only heating was this little ""space heater"" I bought that was 3 glowing lights and it was so fucking useless, but it was the only appliance that wouldn't instantly fry the wiring in this tiny ass house.

and it got fucking cold at night. like, see your breath in your bedroom cold, the sleeping bag I had was rated for 0 degrees C but that just means it's the temperature you won't die at, not the temperature you'll be comfortable at. I remember watching a large centipede literally crawl all the way across my room to curl up in front of my stupid fucking space heater and I didn't even have the heart to sweep the thing outside, he was as miserable as I was.

so I developed severe sleep problems during winter as a result of being too cold to sleep until sunrise, and my circadian clock was absolutely fucked. I would roll out of bed at around noon on only a handful of hours of sleep, and this sleep phase shift ended up carrying on out of winter into the warmer months.

so I was like. okay. this has to stop.

I had already watched all my movies a ton of times already so they were inherently good candidates for putting me to sleep. but this was 2014 before the mcu got totally out of control otherwise I would have picked one of those.

I needed something with the perfect blend of subpar visuals (causing me to close my eyes), inoffensive and unremarkable dialogue and soundtrack (blending together into white noise), and a pleasant but NOT interesting emotional tone. it needed to be both soothing and boring. it needed to be a warm glass of 2% milk.

I went through a couple movies before landing on rise of the guardians. it was better than melatonin. so unremarkable and so pleasantly just, there, in a way few movies ever achieve. like for a movie where a child dies within the first 10 minutes it evokes absolutely nothing in the audience and says nothing by the end. in retrospect it genuinely feels like an AI-generated film designed to specifically put me to sleep.

anyway. having watched the first 30-45 minutes of that movie at least, I want to say 100 times over the course of this self-induced psychological treatment, I can say that I barely even remember what happens in those 30-45 minutes. like I know there's a sexy rabbit in the film but my mind can't even conjure what he looks like.

but yeah, I eventually stopped and switched to pavloving myself with music because I got scared of the consequences. the unintended side effect now is that every time I see a gifset from the movie or that stupid twink's face in a meme, I have vivid wartime flashbacks to my time in the peace corps shivering until 7am in the morning and staring at my roommate the large centipede whom I shared my warmth with.

Last Movie/Show: I'm trying to remember if I've seen any movies since Christmas Eve, which was the last one I named when I most recently did this meme. If we can count the audio of movies and shows I've downloaded to listen to while I'm at work, then the last movie, oddly enough, was Bratz Rock Angelz, and I will stand by that being So Bad It's Good. In that same vein, the last show by that same metric was Mystery Science Theater 3000. (If that movie counts, then technically the last movie was Girl in Gold Boots.)

Relationship Status: Single and happy about it!

Current Obsession: I guess technically it's Lightlark. I don't know why I'm wired to like it so much, but it apparently hits the perfect level of So Bad It's Good for me. I'm still trying to process the implication that some Wildlings were specifically hunting Starlings for food and the fact that the author either did this unintentionally or does nothing else with it.

Three ships: only three??? How am I supposed to narrow this down? I suppose I'll go with one ship from three different categories I have a weakness for:

ships between cynics and the idealists who make them a little less cynical, such as Jeff/Annie from Community.

ships between people who are isolated together, either physically or metaphorically (e.g. by their mutual experience of things nobody else will ever believe or understand), such as Mike/Sam from Until Dawn.

the oddly specific 'creepy person who hovers between ally and antagonist'/'determined protagonist who has an intense relationship with aforementioned creepy person and doesn't know how to feel about that', such as Hinata/Komaeda from Danganronpa 2.

Special mention to Nate/Elena from Uncharted, who don't fall into any of these categories but always spring immediately to my mind when I think about ships I love.

First ship: Squall/Zell (Final Fantasy VIII). I've always been a little surprised it's not a bigger pairing; Zell definitely seemed into Squall!

Last song: The last song I actually listened to was 'Little Talks' by Of Monsters and Men. The song I currently have stuck in my head is 'Hurricane' from Death Note: The Musical.

Last movie: Birds of Prey. It was pretty fun; I enjoyed what a disaster Harley Quinn was. The last film I saw in the cinema was Suzume, which was absolutely gorgeous.

Currently reading: A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers. I always enjoy her sci-fi; I'm sorry that the Wayfarers series is over!

Currently watching: Having seen Death Note: The Musical on stage and absolutely loved it, I'm rewatching the Death Note anime! I love Light. He's such a terrible person, but he's just so good at murder that I find myself weirdly proud of him.

(I went to the musical with a friend. 'The moment Light came on stage and started singing, I looked over at you, and you were smiling so fondly,' my friend commented afterwards. 'It was like we were watching a school play and your child had just come on.')

Last thing I wrote: This little Death Note ficsnippet in response to a concept suggested by @winter-literature. I've never written anything about soulmates before, but I couldn't stop thinking about the idea; it did seem fitting for Light and L! I ended up scribbling the ficlet down on my phone in the middle of preparing supper.

Currently writing: I don't know whether I'll actually finish it, but I've been playing around with a Death Note fic concept in which Light is forced to kill someone with his bare hands. He's used to killing from afar, so I think it would be interesting to see how he copes with committing hands-on murder, and whether that would make it harder for him to accept his own actions.

Mun Vs. Muse

Similarities:

we both appreciate and will make jokes/puns/reference memes. it is not always done correctly (whether on purpose or due to not actually understanding in the first place). 

we will also say the Wrong word than what we actually intend on occasion.

we have a similar and broad taste in music, and we are both open to listening to things that are less appealing to us personally if someone we care about likes it, even if we never want to hear it again afterward.

we both have the same type of calmly competitive nature in the sense that we are going to TRY OUR BEST to win regardless of who we are against (friends or not), but we are not sore losers. also, we don’t get competitive about Everything nor want to be better than everyone; it’s just specific things, like playing games.

I don’t always feel like it’s true, but people in real life and online’s opinions/reactions to my presence seems to indicate that I have a lot of patience/softness/Mature Energy. Like, there were occasionally individuals in college (including one that I barely knew) that would Ask me for advice about something PERSONAL/WHAT I WOULD CALL PRIVATE and I answered honestly and thoughtfully the best I could. Optimus experiences and does the same, although he doesn’t feel oddly about it like I do.

we can be or sound self-righteous, but it doesn’t usually mean we’re close-minded or unwilling to give second chances. there are lines we will not cross, however, if at all possible to avoid, and have never changed our mind on those select morals.

we are fiercely protective, even if there have been very few times I’ve had a reason to be compared to him.

Differences:

this fellow is way above average size in his own universe. i am just average height, and absolutely not built like a truck.

he is stronger in many ways than I am, both physically and psychologicaly. like, if you insulted me personally rather than as constructive criticism, I might cry.

follow up to that: I try to avoid confrontation due to my sensitivity. op does prefer peace, but also, he will insult with 0 hesitation and throw hands if he has a reason (or he feels like it). I may insult/fuss about things that I dislike privately with my friends, but not publicly.

op will speak to anyone confidently. I am shy and awkward until I am comfortable with someone. 

also, he Speaks better than I do, I have difficulty transferring the thoughts in my head into coherent wording sometimes.

I’ve never been in straight up combat/a fist fight much less warfare.

if I have died before, I have no memory or knowledge of it.

I’m more Mom Friend energy than BBQ Dad energy, if that makes sense hfkjsdh

2. do you have any oddly specific love languages?

When someone I care about trusts me enough to vent about something, or let me support them through something. It makes me feel very loved. Some of the most precious moments I shared with my best friends were when they were feeling bad about something really big and serious and they chose to come to me with that. I don't know if that counts sfjgjdjgsdgj It actually makes me feel guilty sometimes, because even though I hate when my friends are hurting, it's like I'm enjoying sharing a really hard time they're going through.

11. how often do you listen to music?

Not that often, actually. Music doesn't keep the mind busy enough while I'm trying to do things, like draw or clean. So I listen to audio books and podfics, if I'm listening to anything. By the time I'm in the space for music, I'm too overwhelmed and need quiet. I miss listening to music more. I like translating Hebrew songs I like for my close friends to share with them.

My best friend. It's really not fair that they live so far away from me. We deserve cuddles! With their girlfriend too. ONE DAY I'LL GET MY CUDDLE PILES.

What's a tidbit you could say is unique to your main games community? It's kind of a meme in our community that our game is a glorified rythym game. Actions Essentially only update on 0.6 second intervals, and as such a good portion of the high level community gravitate towards 100BPM music because it syncs with the game and helps them time certain things.Got curious if other random games out there have their own oddly specific relations. Parties at Saltburn always make Cecelia think of The Great Gatsby and that very specific line. I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties, there isn’t any privacy. Saltburn let you get lost in a crowd. Easier than ever when everyone is in a mask. You could disappear down a hallway, have the best sex of your life and never know who it was that blew your tiny mind. Cee can't help thinking that it would be a brilliant place for a murder. All those dark rooms, too many people.

Drunk on champagne, and possibly a little high on something stronger, she's not in the mood for dancing anymore. Oddly enough, everyone is giving each other too much space. It's why she likes partying in London; you find yourself in the right sort of club, with rave music and flashing lights, you can never tell when you end and where the next person begins. Bodies pressed together, assuring Cecelia that she is, in fact, a real person. Living, breathing, alive! She doubts herself in this state. That tingly feeling in her limbs from the champagne only adds to the idea that she's not real. A figment of someone's warped imagination, or a ghost of Saltburn. She wants someone to reach out and grab her, hold her down and assure her she's seen.

A hand from the crowd answers her prayers. Gently she's turned around before she can leave the room. This isn't a Disney film, where her Prince Charming is conveniently unrecognisable in the mask for the sake of the plot. It's his jawline that gives him away. The fact that they have basically shared a bedroom every summer since Cee and Vee claimed each other as best friends at the tender age of thirteen.

He leans closer to say something to her, but before he can speak, and wraps her arms around his neck and presses her lips against his. It's not Felix she was looking for, but he'll do. Even in her state of mind, she's aware of how funny it feels, to kiss someone she's considered something akin to a brother for so long. Strong arms move around her and she's so thankful he didn't pull away; it could have all gone so terribly wrong.

The Future Villain Plan

Hey there, live-action adaptations. Well, at the end of today's review, we'll already be halfway through Avengers Undercover. That's pretty exciting, huh? This one's practically zipping by. Heck, let's zip on by ourselves and get into it~

Here's the cover:

…Hey. Hey, Zemo. Z-Zemo. Your pen, Zemo. Your pen is leaking. Like, pretty bad. That's gonna fudge up the contract, I just know it. Also, given this was published in mid-2014, does this mean Baron Zemo pioneered the "hand holding a gun" meme format? Maybe you'd be right to sign with him, in that case. He's got some forward-thinking ideas. My only other complaint with this cover (it's actually very good and symbolic) is how closely he's holding that gun to his armpit. Now I've never shot a gun myself, especially not a comic book laser pistol, but that just seems uncomfortable.

So in our last few issues, the teen survivors of Child Murder Island (at least, the non-marketable ones they didn't have plans to use elsewhere) all team up to find Cullen, only to find Cullen has sold out and joined Baron Zemo's Masters of Evil. He then pressures them into the ultimate signing bonus: murdering Arcade in his home during a party. Hazmat does the deed, and everyone gets caught by SHIELD--only for Hellstrom to warp them back to Villain Land. This is all so Zemo can offer them a contract and some Nazi imagery.

At everyone's hesitation, Zemo realises he might've come on too strong. He splits the groups up among his main minions: Cammi, Hazmat, and Anachronism go with Madame Masque, Daimon Hellstrom takes Nico Minoru, and Chase and Deathlocket go with Constrictor. Cullen has already sold out, and therefore can just hang out (but he decides to go with Hellstrom and Nico anyway). They'll go on some tours, and then decide at the next breakfast. No second breakfast loophole. I guess we're going on a field trip! Or several field trips, I guess.

So Hellstrom, Nico, and Cullen go down to Hell Town. I feel like that might be a country music song, but I'm not certain. This is the section of the city where dark wizards, vampires, and other evil magical stuff lives and hangs out. A huge horned demon suddenly crashes in front of them, and Nico gets all tensed up. But Cullen says it's nothing to worry about. That's just Mephisticuffs, the local fight club and eatery. Hellstrom suggests they go there after the tour. Apparently they have delicious paella. What the heck is the tone here~?

Anyway, Hellstrom takes these two teenagers to his house, and then greets them with the phrase "This is where the magic happens." Nico rightfully calls him out on how creepy this sounds, but he means literally. He shows Nico a big fiery sphere made of strings of fire. Like a yarn ball of flames. He calls it a demon cage, and this is how Cullen's been learning to control his monster side. He lets it out piecemeal inside the cage, which puts it in a dormant state. Nico comments that it's weird how happy Cullen seems, and Hellstrom replies that they haven't hexed him to be happy or anything. That seems an oddly specific denial~

Meanwhile, Chase is already won over because the Young Masters have invited him to play basketball. While he's showing off his dunk, Deathlocket hangs back to talk with Excavator, who was doing a flirt with her a couple issues back. He explains that basically all they do is get told "go beat this guy up" or dropped out of a plane and told to smash, and the rest of the time they just goof around and hang out without responsibilities. Locket laughs aloud, and Excavator agrees it must sound kind of dumb. She replies that no, dumb is good. She could do with some dumb right about now. Ah, the inner conversations of the Marvel offices when they greenlit this series~

Over with Madame Masque, she introduces herself by saying that she watched the whole series of Child Murder Island, thinking half the cast were useless cannon fodder and the other half were superweapons waiting to go off, but she knew these three were special. I hope none of them are buying this. They continue their elevator ride, with her saying the lot of them are clearly leaders, and this offer is basically power and influence. Once the elevator stops, she gets in a helicopter, flying off. She can't waste her whole evening trying to convince them to grab the silver platter she just offered them. God, I hope they're not falling for this.

And thankfully, as soon as the chopper leaves, Cammi asks the other two that they know they're all being played, right? Hazmat and Anachronism both reply affirmative, but like… they are kinda right. Their options suck: stay here and hope the villains don't have a secret agenda (which they have to, they're villains), or go to jail forever. Hazmat suggests something else. Heroes get away with shit all the time. Maybe they could say they're possessed or whatever. And if nobody thinks they're heroes anymore… well, maybe they can do something so big, it covers over the bad stuff.

As promised, Hellstrom's group goes to Mephisticuffs. Nico's in the ring with two big but generic demons. She knocks one down with an ice spell, but he punches her from behind, which sets her off. She cuts loose, ends up blasting the demon to death. Upon realising what she did, she runs from the barbeque/fight pit horrified. She doesn't like that she just snapped and became a killer instinctively, just like her parents wanted. Hellstrom points out that it's just a demon, but how long until it becomes "just" a person?

Nico doesn't really sidle up to Hellstrom's attempt at bonding, embarassingly evil parents in common or not, and he replies that she needs a better friend than him. And here's where shit goes really south. Hellstrom gestures with his pitchfork and resurrects Alex Wilder. Now, if you didn't read at least the first arc of Runaways, first of all, shame on you. It's one of the best comics ever, go read it. But secondly (and spoilers for that first bit), Alex was one of their fellow runaways until he revealed himself as an inside traitor working for their evil parents all along. He is a teen genius, and he is ''big problems''.

Oh, and he and Nico were a couple, if that wasn't enough for you~

So, later on, Chase and Nico meet up with Cammi's group, and by the conversation, you can tell Nico hasn't told Chase--her fellow runaway--about Alex's resurrection (because that won't come back to bite her or anything). Deathlocket's still buddying up with the Young Masters, and obviously Cullen isn't invited because he's already shacked up with the villains. But Hazmat reveals her plan: let's join the bad guys in order to take them down from the inside. Cammi and Anachronism are also on board. Nico's a bit out of it, and Chase just thinks it's a terrible idea--not the least of which is because their whole plan so far is literally "we join up and take 'em down from the inside".

So we cut back over to Baron Zemo in his tower, where he's finishing a call with a minion, who's surprisingly on top of things. The kids enter, and they all tell Zemo they're in--except for Cammi. She's decided to split, go back home to mom. Zemo comments that it's disappointing, but it's her decision. He's really pleased the rest of them decided to join up, though. And so the comic ends with Cammi rocketing home, fuming about everyone "playing villain". Except, despite what Zemo just said about "her decision", she's suddenly lassoed out of the air by Constrictor and swung into a wall, knocking her out. It was her decision… and it was the wrong one.

Well, then, I guess that this is where the "Undercover" in the title comes from. I love when a title only explains itself literally halfway through the story. But anyway... It might not be the most thought-through plan, but I appreciate it. I like that even Anachronism and Hzamat are on board with it. Like, I didn't enjoy Anachronism to start with, him being one of the Braddock Academy OCs and all. But he's got a neat character concept and it's moments like this where he's growing on me. And honestly, this comic is also growing on me. I like that the characters are being mostly heroic (to the best of their ability) from the start, and we also have this very interesting wrinkle with Alex, and the other wrinkle with Cammi's capture. Unlike its predecessor, I'm actually looking forward to seeing where this goes~

In all honesty I feel like I'd melt from her flirty and gung-ho attitude after a couple days. But I feel that she isn't the worst person to be friends with from AL specifically so I think given a week or two we could hit it off pretty well.

I've been told by my friends on several occasions that my taste in music has been "stuck in the 2010's" or "complete weeb trash". Which is a very oddly accurate way ti describe my playlist of songs that can go from idol trash, to the song that never leaves the radio, and then some game OST

The only time I really don't listen to music while writing is more serious RL related work or when I want to focus on a bigger project section (i.e fics lmao). But once you get into a song rhythm it's really hard to get off it.
