It’s day 7 of the #nnghalloweenvinyl challenge by @nickynogood315: Shaun Of The Dead: Mix Of Styles. Various - Russ Meyer's Lorna / Vixen. / Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! / Up! Megavixens / Beneath The Valley Of The Ultravixens / Supervixens (Original Motion Picture Soundtracks) (Q.D.K., 1995) “There’s something for everyone in small town America,” says the narrator in Russ Meyer’s Beneath The Valley of the Ultravixens, and that goes for this soundtrack too. Everything from Mexican cantina music to country to jazz to Richard Wagner - and anything in between - is represented here alongside the combative and seductive dialogue from these legendary grindhouse pictures. Also posting in memory of Francesca Isabel Natividad, professionally known as Kitten, who starred in the last two films here and who Meyer called his favorite of all the kickass women he worked with. She’s in the middle photo on the back cover as shown above. #octobervinylchallenge day 31: most important in collection. I came into my freshman year of college only listening to Christian music after I threw out my secular music the spring before. After praying about it for a while, I decided it was okay for me to listen to nonchristian music. I decided to check out The Mars Volta’s De-Loused in the Comatorium. That listen remains one of the most spiritual experiences of my life, and it completely tore down the wall between sacred and secular art. It’s day 30 of the #nnghalloweenvinyl challenge by @nickynogood315: Ghost Ship: Killer Opening Track. Led Zeppelin - In Through The Out Door (Swan Song, 1979) On their (sadly) final album, Led Zeppelin delivered a spectacular opening track in keeping with their tradition. Arising from a murky beginning as if from the depth of a broken man’s soul, Page’s bludgeoning riff kicks off the album with high energy, Plant joining in with howls of “I’ve got pain!” and Jones adding pumping bass the underpin Bonham’s furious grooves. The slowed down section that leads into the guitar solo is beautiful and mysterious…and then Page goes OFF, playing like a man possessed before spiraling out some more lyrical lines. During the solo, there are moments where it sounds like something is breaking and I have no idea what they did to make that happen, but it just FEELS so good. Day 𝟏𝟎 of #MyBloodyVinylChallenge 🩸: Mummified: Unique packaging @lorde’s latest album ‘Solar Power’ had a couple unique packaging choices that I found to be quite endearing. First, the outer sleeves the records arrived in are compostable and second there’s a slot in the deluxe gatefold packaging to house the 7” of the bonus tracks which I think is so cute.
