One of the most terrifying times in my life being fitted under the blade on the table from the film The Pit and the Pendulum I forget all the people here but that is Basil Rathbone taking my next of kin if the bloody thing falls on my head, LOL, and the girl in the back is the French Director that built the Pendulum to stop on my body dimensions Susanne Deprey. The man in the back barely seen Alan one of Mario Bava's cameramen. October Horror and Monster Madness, We had filmed the fall of the house of usher, the pit and the pendumlum, and haunted mansion all at the same time, and Roger Corman needed more people for Haunted Mansion, asked around and some of the cast of Dark Shadows came over to work with us, this is me in a promo shot from Usher. October Horror and Monster Madness Working with my best friend in the world, she and I worked together on something like 30 films or more I never mention her name because she left acting for a different career but lives happy with her husband and children. I will mention that her performance in this awarded her with the Italian Silver Venus for best actress and a Star in Italy. For Lamberto Bava's A Blade In The Dark we made my make up to turn me into John Derrick's mirror image, this was of course after his accident, we reused this make up in several films. October Horror and Monster Madness Working with Lysette Anthony in "House Of The Long Shadows" Here we are two of the three Desi Arnaz Jr's together at last we always wanted to do a film with all three of us together, but we shall see. The interesting thing about this film is every single person, no matter how small, even the field mice were stars in horror films prior to this production except for Desi, he was our alice through the looking glass so to speak. Lysette and I worked for a week both together and apart to create our characters. Even though out part in the film is small, we had to be so perfect and so opaque that the audience would not recognize us, realize us, or compare our film characters to our off camera lives. Not easy since we had done "Who Should The Stars Marry" for the BBC prior to this. But even to this day most don't realize who we are from the film. A very tough measure pleasing Christopher, Peter, and Vincent, but very enjoyable, and a memorable performance. October Horror and Monster Madness One of my fondest memories on set was working with Norman Mitchell. I do a lot of supporting, extra and minor roles so I can always appreciate when someone has something they really want to do in a film. Norman had talked to me about how he had been in many Hammer films, but he had never been allowed to die, and he really wanted to do a death scene, I said well let’s try one, when he looked at me I said what is the worst they can do, call cut and reshoot it, come on lets have fun. So we did the scene as written, he knocked over the jar of eyeballs, and I went to pick them up. I said “Ruined absolutely ruined, I’ll have to get more.” In the script I have an ice pick in my hand and I’m supposed to place it on a table or something, I kept it in my hand, came up and I stuck the ice pick in the board of the set next to his head making a thump, from the camera angle I stabbed him in the eye, and he acted perfectly and had his death scene. I looked around, thought about what I needed, perhaps took a prop or two, and left, from memory I may have done something else, then I walked back saying well that’s about all I can think of to do more I’ll have to talk to Terrence, and Terrence said “Oh, cut, wow, what a scene, I almost can’t believe what I just filmed, let me take a look at it, lets reshoot it the way we scripted it so I can compare the two.” And we did, he after talking with several people decided to drop the death scene because he couldn’t figure out how I would then be captured and taken to the asylum.
