Production photo Frankenstein and the monster from Hell, often times I come across someone that asks about some of the cut scenes, understand Peter and I did about 30 scenes together that were either cut from the film or never in the movie but used for publicly “See the Thing From Hell” “Frankenstein drinks the blood of the fiend” “The creature that bent bars to escape” and so on, but those scenes are work they are not memorable for the actors doing them. October Horror and Monster Madness One of my fondest memories on set was working with Norman Mitchell. I do a lot of supporting, extra and minor roles so I can always appreciate when someone has something they really want to do in a film. Norman had talked to me about how he had been in many Hammer films, but he had never been allowed to die, and he really wanted to do a death scene, I said well let’s try one, when he looked at me I said what is the worst they can do, call cut and reshoot it, come on lets have fun. So we did the scene as written, he knocked over the jar of eyeballs, and I went to pick them up. I said “Ruined absolutely ruined, I’ll have to get more.” In the script I have an ice pick in my hand and I’m supposed to place it on a table or something, I kept it in my hand, came up and I stuck the ice pick in the board of the set next to his head making a thump, from the camera angle I stabbed him in the eye, and he acted perfectly and had his death scene. I looked around, thought about what I needed, perhaps took a prop or two, and left, from memory I may have done something else, then I walked back saying well that’s about all I can think of to do more I’ll have to talk to Terrence, and Terrence said “Oh, cut, wow, what a scene, I almost can’t believe what I just filmed, let me take a look at it, lets reshoot it the way we scripted it so I can compare the two.” And we did, he after talking with several people decided to drop the death scene because he couldn’t figure out how I would then be captured and taken to the asylum. Remembering our quiet, gentle, loving, silly mime who would rather be a Force behind a voice, than ever speak. David Prowse passed away today at 85. He would often say "Sometimes I wonder about animated characters, I wonder if they are happy with the voices attached to them, or if they wish someone else did their voice, or if they feel they are not good enough for such a voice."
