The Agustins

The Agustins of Vault 60 can clearly trace their lineage to pre-war days. Pre-war Agustins hail from a long line military men and women, and as Vault 60’s doors closed, they continued to serve under the overseer/datu as law enforcers. When Vault 60’s doors eventually reopened, the Agustins redefined themselves as legendary deathclaw hunters.

Agustins begin training when they are only eight years old, and the family’s rite of passage into adulthood is tracking and killing a fully-grown deathclaw mother and taking the largest egg in her brood as proof of the deed to the rest of the family (plus the deathclaw’s head, so the family knows for sure you did your job). Back in the olden days, they’d eat the egg, too, ‘cause times were rough and it’s not good to just waste a perfectly good source of protein, but most Agustins by the 2200s opt not to do that anymore because it’s kind of unnecessary.

Sometime during the late 2100s, the first Agustin became Vault 60’s first datu. It’s traditionally passed on from parent to child, but one datu failed to ever come back from a hunting trip. An Agustin was voted to become datu, but the results were close. The Agustins only beat another family, the del Rosarios (the the Rosarios, that is so redundant), by twenty votes. By the time Wally and Marius are born, the Agustins have been in power for only three or four generations. Although their rule over Vault 60 has been rather successful, the growing number of individuals who would rather have a del Rosario in power weakened the Agustin’s hold on Vault 60. Eventually, the in-fighting made the Vault susceptible to being overtaken by Legion.

Valentino Agustin/Valerius/Wally Augustine

Birthdate: 2263 (18 years old during the start of New Vegas)

(uhm, I don’t have any good sketches of Wally, but if you want to know what he looks like, he looks like Yamato Takeru from Eyeshield 21 lmao)

Born Valentino Agustin to Helena Agustin, datu of Vault 60, with Michael del Rosario. Helena and Michael’s marriage was supposed to bring peace between the two families, but after it was clear that Helena could not be convinced to pass on the title of datu to Valentino, the marriage just put a larger strain between the families.

Valentino was just four years old when the Legion overtook Vault 60 and enslaved most of its residents, including Valentino and his older half-brother Marius. He was renamed Valerius and aspired to become a Legion scout until the Battle of Hoover Dam when he chose to defect instead.

After gaining his freedom, he became a courier for the Mojave Express and chose “Wally Augustine” to be his new name. Wally because it’s similar to Valerius, and “Augustine” simply because he didn’t remember how to correctly spell or pronounce his original name the Filipino-way.

Now a free man, Wally simply wishes to find a new family to make new memories with. He’s extremely friendly and charismatic on the surface, but he’s still deadly. He loves animals (especially nightstalkers). He isn’t too keen on dogs until he develops a big ol’ crush on the King, and the King asks him to help Rex out.

Fun fact: He can breathe through his mouth and his nose at the same time.

Marius Agustin/Joseph Augustus

Birthdate: 2257 (24 during the start of New Vegas)

Datu Helena Agustin’s oldest son with an “unknown man” (it’s fucking Joshua Graham. I’m sorry. It’s Joshua Graham. Helena has trash taste in men. I’m so sorry.) After nearly all Vault 60 is enslaved by the Legion, Marius is recruited into the Legion at just eleven years old. His height, training as a deathclaw hunter, and relatively cozy life inside Vault 60 gave him an edge over the other recruits.

Marius became a centurion at only 18 years old, but there are many rumors that he simply got his position because he is related to another high-ranking Legion officer. Shortly after Great BBQ of 2277, Marius helps other Legionaries and slaves escape the Legion. When asked by NCR officials why he decided to defect and feed top-secret intel to the NCR, Marius simply replies, “I made a promise to my mom a long time ago.” During the events of the game, Marius changes his name to Joseph Augustus (the change to Augustus was deliberate on his part, unlike Wally who is just a DITZ) and has a small farm in NCR territory where he lives with his adopted children, Sadie and Logan, and his dog, Lovely.

update:

his name is Rex Marius, IPC Repossession Agent and self-taught inventor/mechanic, Fire element and Erudition path. He’s a ten year old pyromaniac’s dream come true lmao

Lives and works on an IPC-controlled artificial planet with three suns. The planet is far enough out in the system that it would be completely frozen with only one sun but three of them keep it pleasantly cool for most humanoid life forms. Constant jacket weather.

Former joyrider, got jailed for a while before an IPC repossession department head got ahold of his files and decided to headhunt him. Now he repossesses vehicles from customers who make it extra difficult to find or take the vehicles.

Keeps a garage of hoverbikes and self-designed assistant bots he works on in his off hours and makes his own weapons.

Versa finds him entirely too wild and unpredictable, also dirty and pedestrian, and specifically is annoyed that he’d dare ask to see how Versa’s articulated joints work. Herta’s designs are not for study, they are proprietary, not to mention he’s busy using the body to live in, and he’s seen the sorts of ‘robots’ Rex has made. (Why would he let someone who makes scrap heaps like that open up Madam Herta’s OOAK modified android puppet?)

Potential combat kit (and yeah I know Hook’s fire and robots too but you can’t have too much of that ok? besides, she’s destro path lol)

Fire/Erudition

Basic Atk: Improvised Weapon - Way better than the old lighter and flammable spray trick! Fire damage on one enemy + blast damage to the two next to it. Animation alternates between the home-made flamethrower gun that launches a nitroglycerin fireball and swinging with a flaming sword (also home-made)

Skill: Roll Out! Sends out his assistant wheelbots to ram into the enemy and cause 125% atk dmg, with base chance 100% to cause Burn. If the enemy is already burned, it takes extra damage. (Or, move the fireball launcher to skill status with the same major damage + burn application)

Talent: Tick, Tick... : Every time an enemy takes damage from Burn, Rex gains 1 stack of Countdown. When it reaches 5 stacks, Rex lights up an explosive to do extra blast damage to a random enemy and the two next to it.

Ultimate: Cool Guys Don't Look At Explosions: AOE! This is essentially a drive-by bombing. Causes explosion damage to each enemy, detonates all existing stacks of Burn for major damage and adds another stack of Burn to each enemy

I made a rival/nuisance for Versa but I have no idea what to name them
