summary: Wednesday has witnessed some strange behavior from the new kid in Nevermore, and she won't stop until she finds out if he's connected to the recent attacks.

Another day had passed at the Nevermore Academy when Wednesday was on her way to return to her shared dorm with Enid after her past midnight walk. Her impenetrable and focused eyes travelled to an odd spot in the corner of the hall. You see, she never lets her attention linger on most students, not even for a split second. She judges that most of them are stupid and frivolous teenagers and a waste of time that she has to share the space at the school, but an unusual scene catches her attention.

Eugene was struggling to help a boy that seemed pretty beaten up. He was way taller than Eugene and had his arm around the shorter boy’s neck, Eugene and the stranger boy seemed to be in a hurry. Wednesday frowned a little whilst watching the boys disappear when turned on the hall, the mysterious boy hissed a bit while walking.

The brunette’s eyes stared at the floor for a second, thinking about who was this guy she never saw in the surroundings, why he was hurt, and why Eugene was helping him. They looked like had trouble obviously and that was the weirdest thing to the girl because Eugene was literally a weak dull person. In a good way.

Eugene was like her little brother, Pugsley.

She looked up again and went to her dorm sure that she’d find out what she just witnessed tomorrow.

Wednesday has been watching Reed for a couple of days. You were presented in her class the day after she saw you and Eugene at the school hall. Weems said Reed’s name, and age and that he was a hybrid, just the basic information needed.

But as soon as the days passed by, rumours started as it was expected. But one of them was true, Reed was expelled from his last school because of his aggressive behaviour, even when was in his human form. The principal Weems did not want to tell, which only intrigued Wednesday more. I mean, it wasn’t long since the first and second attacks on the town and no one had any idea who was doing that, and yet the council admitted a new student, which could be very dangerous when turned into his real form.

It was all odd to Wednesday. But it was Nevermore, she wasn’t a bit surprised at this point.

She decided to follow you without your notice, of course. Reed spent most of his time in his room, a dorm just for himself. It was isolated as well, the last one at the end of the hall. Reed didn’t seem to talk to anyone, just sometimes with Eugene, but that was it. Always alone with a book in his hand and earphones plugged into the phone, Wednesday heard through the students’ scattered conversations that he was the outcast of the outcasts.

You also seemed to really, really enjoy drinking coffee. He was an assiduous customer at the Weathervanes, even though he exchanged some weird glares with Tyler. Especially if he was talking to the raven girl.

She even told Thing to spy on him, but he was like a book very well looked at. Much harder to read. Thing wasn't able to find anything that would be interesting.

She had shared her suspicions with Enid. Wednesday kind of was obliged to because the werewolf girl noticed the slight difference in the schedule of her friend and how she was acting, more secretive than usual. The Wednesday usual, better saying. Sometimes Enid amazed Wednesday, but the raven one never took the friend by dumb. Too talkative, joyful, nosy, and a nuisance, but not dumb.

Wednesday was writing her novel on her desk by the window. The night was breathless with the stunning pale moon and foggy weather. It was very dark outside if wasn’t for a frail yellow moving light moving at a hurried pace. Wednesday stood up and got her binoculars that were hanging on the rack, it was Reed.

The raven got her coat and finally seemed to get attention from Enid shift to her. The girl was glued to her phone talking to her boyfriend and listening to music, she refused to listen to Wednesday’s weird songs that were playing.

— Where are you going? — Enid said watching her. Wednesday was at the door already and didn't turn around to answer:

— Find out what is going on with this new guy.

— Wait, Wedn-- 

Enid tried to talk, but the raven left. The werewolf growled but put her shoes on and followed Wednesday right after, she couldn’t let the raven one goes alone and follow Reed through the dark forest.

— Wednesday! 

The raven scoffed and returned to Enid, letting her face express just a little bit that she was annoyed. 

— Can you not yell? We are not supposed to be out of our dorm at this time. I have to go, I might lose track of Reed if I continue this conversation. Goodbye.

— Why are you so obsessed with this boy? — Enid followed her once again. — Does Tyler know that?

— I'm not obsessed, I just told you, Enid. I think he might have something to do with the attacks — and then she knits her eyebrows to look at the girl. — Why are you bringing up Tyler? What does he have to do with this matter?

— Isn't he like… your boyfriend or something? He's always been all over you — she smiled suggestively.

— It's intriguing how you can make such assumptions based on nothing, Enid. It is almost astonishing, really — Wednesday fixed her clothes and got a flashlight. — But to answer your question about my private life, no, we have nothing. He's just an acquaintance. I have to see if my coherent suspensions are correct now. Goodbye.

— I don't understand. It all happened before he came here, right?

— Yes, but he seemed to be very harmed a night before Weems presented him as a student. Without the fact that he has a dorm isolated just for himself and gets to the principal’s office way too much — Enid listened attentively while looking at the slightly shorter girl, she didn't realize that one of the employees of the school was passing by and almost caught the to girls, but Wednesday was faster and took Enid's hand and managed to hide behind the door. — And he's a puzzle to me, I know there's something wrong and I'll find out tonight.

— Ok, Sherlock, I know you're not gonna let it go. Even though I think you're just oddly obsessed with this mysterious boy, I'll go with you — Enid sighed.

— Why?

— I won't let you go out by yourself through that dark forest, Wednesday! People are getting attacked, you just said yourself that the Reed could have something to do with this.

— I can take care of myself just fine, Enid.

— I know — the werewolf gave her a small smile. — But I just want to make sure you're not gonna like… die out there because I'd literally freak out if I had to listen to your horrible music for eternity because I don't know to turn off that damn record player.

Wednesday cracked a little smile with that girl's little speech. She then agreed with the werewolf with a simple nod. Enid raised her eyebrows in pure shock.

— That was the first time I saw your smile! — she jumped excitedly. Wednesday’s stoic face returned immediately, but Enid did not care. — OMG, I can't believe I made you smile. You have to work on showing that you're genuinely happy with this smile, but I'll stick to what I have for now.

Wednesday wanted to roll her eyes, but they were running out of time.

— Control your emotions and write about this fascinating fact you just saw in your journal later, Sinclair — Wednesday started to walk again, with Enid by her left side. — You may join me, but if you mess up, I'll feed you to the monster myself.

— Well, that's lovely.

— Can you sniff him? — Wednesday asked, ignoring the bothering on the werewolf’s voice when they silently left the inside of the building. No trace of the boy. They talked too much.

— Now I see why it was so easy to convince you to let me come along.

Once again Enid was quick to read Wednesday.

It wasn't long until Enid found the trace that Reed could be, and both of them wandered through the silently screaming forest. Only the sound of the animals of the night and their silent breathing was heard. Along with the cracking of dry twigs as they made their way through the forest, that was all that the two girls heard when a sudden, out of nowhere, a force made them fall on the ground and roll over. The sound of footsteps was a crescent sound, but before the two of them could process, they were thrown to the ground.

Wednesday fell a foot away from Enid, who was unconscious with the thud.

— Enid?! — Wednesday was a little bit dizzy and felt a sting on her forehead, with a warm thick liquid that she immediately knew was blood and was starting to slowly run down her head.

She didn't care about it though, she was exclusively concerned about the werewolf girl who wasn't responding. 

Not with her balance recovered enough, she tried to stand up and go to Enid and help her friend, but when she was about to, footsteps noises were heard. A tall figure, it was a shadowed silhouette of someone Wednesday who couldn't identify obviously. It was approaching them and the raven girl was ready to accept her fate for her presumptuous self to think she could find a good thing coming here and follow a mysterious boy. Possibly the same boy that'd kill her now. 

But the only thing on her mind was Enid, she shouldn't let the girl come with her. 

— Are you out of your mind, Addams? What the hell are you doing out here?!

Yes, it was Reed. All bruised up and with clothes basically looking like rags. His wavy black hair was a total mess, not that usually it wasn't, but right now it was a real mess.

— It seems like I came to make your services easier — she tried to prop herself up, and almost fell, so Reed took one step forward to help her, which made Wednesday flinch and step back. Reed got the memo and went to his earlier place. Wednesday managed to stand up by herself. — I know you're the monster, but I just want to ask you to leave Enid alone. She didn't see your face. 

Reed stared at Wednesday in disbelief for a second and then scoffed, breaking eye contact for a second. Wednesday kept glancing at him, well she had to try to at least plead for the werewolf’s life. She knew she wouldn't stand a chance against the boy in front of her.

— I'm not the monster, Addams, and I don't intend to hurt you or your friend either.

— And what are you doing here then? And in that state? — Wednesday looked at him from bottom to top.

— I asked you first — he retorted.

Wednesday remained silent. She thought if she continued talking about her certainty of him being the monster, Reed would not think twice and kill her and Enid.

— Let's get out of here, it's not safe for you two — he said and went to Enid, to pick the unconscious girl up, but Wednesday stood in front of her, shielding Enid and stopping the boy who was lowered in front of the body. — I'm not gonna hurt your friend, Addams. I need to get y’all out of here before it comes back, I won't be able to protect you two.

— You're really not the monster? Why should I believe you

Reed sighed, annoyed. He was hurt, his body was sore from the fight with the monster and Wednesday's insistent accusations were starting to get on his nerves.

— You want to pay with your life and see that I'm not the monster or do you want to come with me and leave this forest alive with your friend? — he snapped, trying his best to let his tone low.

— Let's go — Wednesday decided to go with him. It wasn't like she had too many options anyway.

Reed carried her in a bridal style through the entire school until the three of them got to the girl's dorm. They had to be very discreet and thoughtful to not be caught by any school employee, but they managed to do it successfully.

Fortunately, Enid was fine. It wasn't anything serious but was enough for Wednesday's worry. She didn't know she cared that much about the girl until she thought she was dead. She only noticed that one tear had run down her cheek when a comforting hand touched her shoulder. She was startled a bit by Reed's strong yet delicate touch on her clothed shoulder. Wednesday had forgotten about him while looking at Enid, sitting beside her in her bed.

After he said “Don’t worry, Addams. I'm sure she'll be okay”, she kicked him out. 

Reed didn't even get the chance to ask if Wednesday was fine, because of her wound on the head, and when she looked at him, she saw that he was honestly concerned about her looking at her head. And that irritated her.

In any case, Wednesday was sincerely relieved and swore she would never ever again expose the werewolf girl to that danger again.

2 days passed by after the incident in the forest. Reed should attend 4 classes shared with Wednesday, but he didn't show up. Nor was seen at all at the school. 

Maybe he had left because Wednesday discovered his secret, but when Wednesday asked some of the teachers about his absence, they said that the principal informed them he was sick and that's why she was absent from the classes. Wednesday then went to the medical wind, the nurse said that he never stopped by.

She decided to confront him once and for all. Wednesday expected to talk to him, but since he hadn't shown up, she'd go to him.

The string about Wednesday is that she wouldn't settle down while she didn't solve this puzzle.

Wow honestly I love this take.

The only time I got the "Mary Sue" accusation was when I posted a summary of a Doctor Who fanfic I was working on (I made a Tumblr blog to post it on and had filled out the summary area of the blog theme but hadn't posted any of the fic yet) and some random person anon-messaged me to basically tell my idea was stupid (actually the f word was used), ending with "Mary Sue much?" or something like that. Just because I had come up with a fanfic where my OC saves The Doctor from having a bookcase fall on him (this was pre-Jodie Whitaker) at the library she works at.

Now...to be fair this OC, Alys Reed, had essentially started her life as "me on the TARDIS" with very little changes, likely because I was a newbie Whovian and, as I am with most of my interests, diving into the fandom rabbit hole headfirst (it's an Asperger's thing I think) and somehow got the crazy idea to write a fanfic about this show I knew very little about at the time. But because of this dumb anon, I went to the trouble of trying to make her different from myself - I'm a brunette, so I made her blonde; I'm from California, she's from Vermont; she had a large family whereas I do not, etc. At her core, though, I think she still kinda is "me on the TARDIS," and the fic itself is very influenced by things I wanted to explore about the show (like The Doctor's powers and the TARDIS's personality) and by my own interests (the Romanovs, Paris, Japanese history, Tron). The fact that Alys ended up ironically looking a lot like Rose Tyler (one of my favorite Companions) probably wasn't an accident either (though the fic also ships Yowzah pretty hard). And, now, a little over 10 years later, I think I might be ok with that. Now if I can just finish the dang thing (it's nearly 200k words as is 😅)

Scott tried to reach out to me, presumably to keep me from getting hurt by all the inaction or something, but I shrugged him off. Instead I went to go check on Chad, Eric, and Tyler. Tyler and I weren’t what I would consider friends but we had chatted briefly in the halls during my short time at Liberty and were polite to each other. “Are you guys okay? Did he hurt you at all?” I asked, concerned.

“Nah, we’re good Becca. Nothing we haven’t dealt with before. Dude’s got a temper.” Eric responded. Chad chuckled behind him and Tyler scoffed harshly.

“I thought he was actually pretty nice about it comparatively. Kind of like he has some shit going on but he had a reason to contain himself. And he hasn’t been as violent recently, not that I’m complaining. Still an asshole though.” Chad added. Tyler stayed quiet but he didn’t look as scared as I had heard he usually does. Maybe Chad was right. Maybe Monty is cooling off.

I shook my head and shrugged, “boys. They’re a mystery. Maybe Coach told him he has to start keeping his shit together if he wants to stay on the team?” The boys nodded, seeming to agree with me.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Zach pull Monty aside and begin to talk to him in a hushed tone. They must have gotten him to cool down. I heard Cyrus call to his friends in the background but my attention was now on my boys. When did I start thinking of them as myboys? Zach seemed to be trying to get Montgomery to listen. It didn’t seem to be going very well. Stubborn, stubborn boy. Monty saw me watching them and started towards me, his expression still a little clouded. Zach grabbed his arm firmly and pulled him back, shaking his head. I saw him whisper in his ear and Monty sighed. I wish I knew what they were saying. As the warning bell rang, Zach motioned for me to go on ahead to class. He would handle Monty for now. I pulled my bag farther up my shoulder and called out to Scott, who was watching our strange interaction with some interest. “Come on Scotty. Zach has him under control. We have to head to class. Don’t need all four of us getting detention for skipping.” I called out.

“Yeah, I’m coming. Do you know what that was about?” he asked as we walked back into school.

“No. I mean, Monty and I are friends, but I don’t know the inner workings of his mind.” I replied, trying to get him off our trail. This lying to my friends thing is getting easier and easier. He shrugged and left it at that.

“Hey, if you’re free later, did you want to go grab some dinner? We could go to Rosie’s and I could show you what a real sandwich is.” He asked.

“Tonight? Actually I have plans after school.” Sorting out your best friend. “Maybe tomorrow? You’re only supposed to have practice until 5:30.” I told him, offering a solution. I realized my misstep as soon as the words left my mouth.

“How… how do you know when practice is supposed to end?” He asked, clearly confused. Need to think fast.

“Oh. Zach told me when he swung by last night.” I lied again, smoothly.

“Right. Sure, tomorrow after practice works. Meet me at Rosie’s say 6:30?”

“I’ll be there. I have to go and try and figure out a way to get Zach out of class without causing too much of a stir. See you at lunch Scott.” I agreed, having arrived at my class. After we said our goodbyes, I quickly took my seat as attendance was beginning. When Coach got to Zach’s name for attendance I spoke up. “Zach wasn’t feeling so well this morning Coach. He asked me to tell you. He said he will try and be here tomorrow so he doesn’t miss practice.” Coach Rick nodded and seemed to accept that as an answer. I breathed a sigh of relief and class went on as usual.

As soon as the bell rang, I was up and out of class, hoping to catch a glimpse of Zach or Monty before lunch so I could find out what the fuck they were talking about. Unfortunately, they were nowhere to be found on my way to English and I didn’t have the time to find them. I tried to stay focused in English, but I couldn’t get my mind off of what happened before class and the tension between Monty and I this morning. Tony tried to get me to relax but before we could discuss anything that happened, the bell rang, signalling the start of class. We barely made it through half a chapter before people interrupted, whispering about the almost fight this morning. The longer students whispered, the more frustrated Mrs. Matthews became. Unwilling to deal with the disruption anymore, she decided to end class early and dismissed us on the condition that we wouldn’t cause disruptions for any other teachers. Tony and I made our way to the cafeteria well before lunch casually discussing anything but the morning’s unfortunate events.  

After what seemed like hours, the lunch bell finally rang. Tony got up in pursuit of some lunch and his own table while I remained at the jock’s table. People seemed to realize that I was a drifter and that wasn’t changing by now, so no one really said anything about it. I anxiously watched as students began to crowd the room and find their seats. I hoped that Zach or Monty would show up first, but they seemed to be taking their sweet time or not showing up at all. Scott arrived first and we quickly fell into an easy conversation. It wasn’t until Bryce and Zach came to the table with Monty in tow that the mood shifted. I tried to discreetly motion for Zach to take Monty’s usual seat, but he didn’t seem to take the hint. I tried my best to act naturally but knowing that Scott had suspicions at this point, honestly had me on edge. Bryce took his usual seat next to Matt, not needing to save a seat for Chloe at this point. As Zach took his usual seat and Monty took his, the two men sharing a look I didn’t quite understand, I waited with bated breath for Scott to comment. When he didn’t, I felt myself visibly relax and was able to make conversation with my friends freely for a time. Lunch went well until Bryce decided to open his mouth and ask the question we were all avoiding. “Hey Monty, what was with you and Tyler Down this morning? Not that I don’t think the little leech could use some straightening out.” The mood at the table immediately shifted and I made eye contact with Zach as I instinctively grabbed Monty’s knee, my nails pressing into the fabric of his jeans. Thankfully, he merely blinked for a millisecond longer than normal in reaction. I released my grip and he answered, trying to be as vague as possible.

“Nothin’ really man. Just a bad mood I guess. All good now though.” He tried to explain.

“Uh huh. And that’s why you’ve been keeping a level head? You hadn’t been in a fight for like, what, a month before Standall went off the deep end?” Bryce asked, his disbelief evident in his tone.

“What can I say, I’ve been in a good mood recently.” He replied, trying to brush it off. Oh boy. He’s taking on water and sinking fast. Shut up Montgomery. I shot a quick look to Zach, hoping he could help explain away the problem.

“Tyler was saying something about Monty being soft.” Zach interjected, hoping that would help. Fucking boys I swear.

“It’s Tyler Down guys. What does it matter why? It’s not like it was out of character for Monty to give the poor kid a hard time.” I said, rolling my eyes. The boys looked surprised at my comment but after considering it, agreed and dropped the subject. Crisis averted.

By the time we had explained away Montgomery’s behaviour, lunch had come to an end. I took my time gathering my books and getting organized so I could talk to Monty alone. Unfortunately, he didn’t wait for me. At least, that’s what I thought. As I was making my way from the cafeteria, I felt a hand grab my arm and pull me into an alcove away from view.  For the first time all day, Monty looked at me the same way he usually did when we were alone. As though I was the only thing that mattered in the world to him. Whatever Zach said to him this morning must have helped him realize my intentions were good. I smiled up at him as he leaned down to kiss me deeply. It was refreshing after such a long period of tension. “Are you free tonight?” I asked.

“Yeah, I was going to swing by your place. Don’t know if I’ll be able to spend the night though baby girl. My mom is getting curious about where I’m spending the night all the time.” He replied, placing his hand on my hip.

“That’s okay. I have some reading to catch up on anyway. I’ll see you tonight babe.” I placed a quick kiss to his chest before running to class before the bell.

Warnings : Monty is in it and Bryce is mentioned - so if you're not ok with it, please don't read. Some curse words..!?

It's actually poorly and kinda confusing written 😅

Penelopee's mouth went dry, her heart either threatened to burst or totally stopped beating at all. She couldn't tell right now. Everything was numb. Her thoughts. Herself. Everything around her. Tears ran down her cheeks. They felt like they would burn her face to ashes.

Charlie put his hand on her shoulder, she saw it but she did not feel it.

His words were just some noises in her ears. Just some rustle. As he carefully took her in his embrace her tears turned into a loud sobbing, shaking her whole body like crazy. 

Charlie knew that his words would break her but he wasn't exactly ready to see his friend like that.

He was fighting with his own tears while he gently stroke her hair.

After what felt like hours she stopped her heavily sobbing and faced him. She could barely see him through her swollen eyes but she knew he had that caring and also worrying expression. 

She took a deep breath.

"Thank you for telling me.." she sniffled.

He just nodded and forced himself to smile a little.

"I … would you drive me to him Charlie? .. i know this is much to ask but .. would you!?" She asked while trying to calm down her breathing.

"Yes. Yes sure whatever you need Phee" , he said kinda rushed while fiddling his car keys out of his pocket.

As they both were on their way to the most horrible conversation she would probably ever have in her live, her breathing raised until the point she felt like vomiting all over Charlie's car. She opened the window with shaking hands, hoping fresh air would help. But it actually felt like a slap on her face.

"Uhm .. do you want me to call Luke!?" He nervously asked.

She immediately, almost violently shook her head. 

"He's got enough trouble with his parents because of the steroids and i don't want him to… i don't know i just wanna talk with him when i'm calmed down.."

He nodded.

"You didn't tell him, did you!?" 

"No he just knows that Monty is in jail but not why .. i guess he would have told you himself if he knew. I'm sorry you had to hear it from me i guess hearing it from your boyfriend would have been much better. "

There were those tears again, building rivers down her cheeks, finding their way out of her nose, down her lips. She hated that taste. It immediately reminded her of the other fucked up things that happened the last years.

"No. It is good you told me and not anybody else." She assured him.

"Tyler was so brave to talk to the police. I admire him for it and .. i'm proud of you for supporting and encouraging him to do it.." she added. He thanked her but he felt rather guilty than like he did something good. Back than in the locker room when Bryce confronted Montgomery with what he did he just couldn't believe it. He never thought his friend could do Something like that. And hearing it out of a guys mouth who had raped a bunch of girls seemed even crazier. But when Tyler stood up as a survivor to Jessica's speech he realised that it really happened and to whom it happened. And he realised he could do something.

It was hard for him to turn his friend in even after what he did but telling Phee what her best friend did was the hardest thing he ever had to do. He knew how much she loved Monty. She lost Jeff and now she was about to lose Monty too. He wasn't dead. But he was kinda gone. He went to a place not even his best friend could pull him out anymore. 

As they entered the parking lot in front of the building where Montgomery de la cruz was held behind bars she noticed his father's car. The hair on the back of her neck immediately stood up. She hated that man with all of her heart. How many times did she fear that he would actually beat Monty to death!? How many times did she hide him, cleaning his bruises!? She couldn't even tell. 

Her legs were slightly unstable as she got out of the car. With Charlie by her side she managed to enter the building. She would have cried again as she realizes where she was but apparently there weren't any tears left. Her face remained dry and her expression went blank.

After the security man searched her from head to toe and gave his ok, they guided her to the visitors area while Charlie stayed back. She had to face him alone.

 There he sat. His father standing in front of him. She couldn't hear anything but his father was angry as always. She understood him this time but when she saw he actually spit in his son's face she was deeply shook. The guards removed mister De la cruz from the area immediately. Monty's Expression was so sad, she had never seen him that broken before. As he struggled to clean his face while still being chained up she walked right up to him, using her sleeve to dry his face.

As she sat down in front of him she wanted .. what did she want!? Shout at him? Hug him? Slap him? Comfort him? She didn't know exactly. Her feelings were so torn that she just stared at him for a minute.

" I'm so sorry Phee..", he started but as soon as he said those words anger overcame her.

"You better be, boy. I always, always had your back. I always defended you, always told people you were not just a violent, stupid jock on steroids. I told them you were so loyal, caring, funny and actually a really damn good friend. But Now you proved everyone they were right, that deep down you are a fucked up psycho instead. What you did is not excusable. You did not just mess with Tyler. It was not just a joke. How could anything like that ever be a joke!? Wake the fuck up. I know your Dad fucked you up but he honestly did more damage than i wanted to see. This is serious, it's not just beating up some kid. It's rape. Fuck Monty, i'm so dod damn disappointed and grossed out i can't' even tell you. God i'm so tired of your shit" she shouted at him. Now it was him that had tears in his eyes. What had he done!? He had ruined lives. How could he not have noticed how serious things got!? He and Bryce apparently were just alike. Apparently they both didn't know how to be a normal emphatic human being. For Monty it had always been his friends that bought him out of trouble, for Bryce it had been his parents. They never had to think about their mistakes, never had to work things out. And they never tried it any other way. Shit always turned out good for them until now. Now they lost everything. For good.

" I know … i know that now. I don't know why i .. i don't know anything to be honest" he whispered, tears covering his orange overall.

She took some deep breaths. The anger obviously was still there more than ready to burst out again. Things would never be like they were before between them. She could never forget the reason he was here but she also could never forget what he did for her. Honestly to her he had been a real friend. He never ever would have hurt her and without him and Scott she would have lost her mind after Jeff was gone. Speaking of Scott. Monty had been the sweetest support when her boyfriend of almost 2 years broke up with her. Scott got a scholarship for a sportschool in England. It was his great chance and she was so happy for him. They wanted to give long distance relationship a chance but after four weeks he texted her he met somebody new. She was shattered but Monty managed to build her up again. He took her with him wherever he could. He introduced her to Charlie, who had become a really good friend to her and Luke Holliday, the boy she was in a relationship for three month now. Well she knew Luke for quite some time already but it never really clicked until then. She felt like a hypocrite. Crying over Scott that hard and then after just a few month finding herself falling in love with someone else. But he didn't judge her like other people from school did. He never did. But now he did something.  Now it was him who shattered her much more than a breakup ever could. He had her worried many many times. Worried about his future. Worried about his health. But now she wished she was just worried. But she wasn't. She had so much emotions boiling inside of her she couldn't sort or figure out. She couldn't think straight in any way. She hated herself right now. She hated herself for apparently going blind for Monty's actions after Jeff died. She even hated herself for not being able to just hate him right now. She really wanted to. Things would be easier. She wanted to see just his dark side and not love some part of him anymore.

"Please, Penelopee i .. i can be better. I can change." he managed to say, his words almost breaking under his emotions.

She stared at him without any expression. Apparently all those emotions at once lead to not having any at all. 

"That you can change i can see pretty clearly now…" she said monotonous.

Her coldness made him frown and shudder. He would have prefered her shouting at him. Crying at him. Shaming him. But he couldn't handle her having no emotions towards him at all because that meant she gave up on him. Did she!? She didn't know it herself but he saw it in her eyes. She really did. And he kind of understood.

She took his hand in hers. Her warmth almost made his heart jump but the coldness in her following words brought it back and shattered it on the ground of reality.

"I loved you. I may still love you but .. i don't know right now. I know nothing anymore but I'm done saving you because i obviously couldn't .. and it's breaking me. I can't forgive and forget what you did to my friends Monty .. but i ..", tears started running down her cheeks once more. She brushed them away to be able to continue. " But i will never forget our time together as friends. You were actually really good at it...Jail is a chance for you, Monty. Use it. Please. I believe you can be the boy i called my best friend again one day. This can be a new start for you. I don't know if there is a new start for us but … just try your best." She stroke his cheek, collecting some of his tears.

He just swallowed hard and nodded slightly.

"Thank you for being by my side all those years. I wish i wouldn't have fucked us and .. other lives up. I really do. And i swear i will use my chance. I will be better." He meant it. She could tell.

"I believe you.. or at least i really want to .. i think. I'm not sure about anything right now. I will visit you again when i've made up my mind .. but i can't guarantee that you will like my final decision. "

He gave her hand a last squeeze before she stood up.

"You do whatever is best for you. I know Luke will take care of you. I know it. He really loves you… Thank you for everything." 

She nodded. " I know he will .. and i will look after Winston i think he could use a friend right now as well." 

He looked at her confused as hell. He never told her anything about his attraction to men or about this cute boy he met at this rich kids party back then. 

" Yeah i obviously did not know everything about you but i know some things." She said softly. "Farewell and thank you too Monty." She managed to break half of a smile at him for her goodbye.

He wanted to say something, wanted to explain why he hadn't told her but it wouldn't have mattered so he just watched his other half walking out of his life for good quietly. She didn't turn around. She just couldn't. 

Charlie stood up as soon as he saw her coming his way.

" Penelopee. Are You good!? I mean how do you feel, how are you!? Not good i guess but .. yeah" He asked tensed.

She pulled her shoulders up. "I'm alive so i'm .. ok i guess" she said. As she said so he could see that a heavy burden had fallen off of her. But he could see her pain as well.

She gave him a hug.

"Sorry i was so caught up in myself i totally forgot he was your friend too .." she apologized.

He shook his head. " Don't apologize. You have every right to think about yourself for once. We weren't as close as you guys and not for such a long time. I'm good." He assured her. 

"Thank you so much for everything. For staying, for telling me  .. can we see Luke now !?" 

"Yes, sure. Let's go" he said.

As they got back into the car she texted her boyfriend a short message so he knew they had to talk with him about something quite serious.

As they arrived at Luke's House her head was almost smoking.  She had tried to figure out the best way to tell him that another of his friends had done the unthinkable and had been locked away now. But she figured there was no good way. That's why she asked Charly to tell him. He did a great job telling her so he was the better choice for that.

Luke was speechless. His first instinct was to hug his girlfriend. He was so sweet. She knew he was sad as well but his first thought was her wellbeing. 

"I'm so sorry Baby" she mumbled into his chest.

"Don't worry i can handle it sweetie" he told her.

He was strong so she knew he could but it still would be pretty hard on him. Those boys were like a family. Every family is messed up in their own way and sometimes it ends up in seperation. Some are for the bad but some are for the good. Penelopee's parting from Bryce and Monty was for her good but she understood or tolerated that it might be different for others. Luke and some of her other friends for example kept in contact with Bryce and some would probably with Monty. Not everything about them was bad, they had been quite good friends back then actually. She had absolutely no idea if she would stay completely away from Montgomery from now on but fate actually decided for her.

The next day she left school earlier because she did not feel that well and her teacher told her to go home and sleep a little. So after welcoming Clay back and having an emotional talk with Tyler she did.

She woke up due to her doorbell ringing like crazy. As she opened the door she was standing right before her boyfriend who looked filled with consternation.

"What now..!?" She asked deeply concerned.

" You might wanna sit down for this.."

She slowly turned around, waddling into the living room, letting herself flop on the couch. Her whole body felt like pudding. Did they call in Clay for murder again? Did Luke have to face some serious consequences because of the steroids? Did they find Bryce's murderer? Her head was spinning.

" Do you need to throw up!?" Luke asked, patting her back slightly.

" No… not yet please just tell me.." she whined.

He took a deep breath.

" I met Tim at the Gym today. Baby .. he told me they found Monty dead in his cell .." he said in a shaking voice.

Penelopee went as pale as porcelain immediately. She opened her mouth but there were no words coming out of it. There they were again. All those fucking emotions. Sadness. Desperation. Pain. Anxiety. Relief. Why the relief? Because there was no need to make a decision now. Or maybe because there was no suffering for him anymore. For him and all the people he hurted.

But now there was no second chance for him anymore unless you believe in reincarnation. 

Luke wiped her tears out of her face as he squeezed her carefully. 

"I will miss him like crazy even though i already lost him ..and i should hate him. God why aren't feelings just simple and controllable... but i guess there is nothing standing in the way of a new start now .." she sobbed. "Oh no now i've probably cursed it .."

" No Baby, there is nothing like that" he assured her.

She was sure he was right. He calmed her down until she wasn't crying anymore. Then they laid down on the couch and fell asleep right away. They were both really exhausted. Now everything was going to be ok. Things would be hard but they would be ok. So she thought. Until the boy named Winston woke them up in the middle of the night by banging on the living room window. What he had to say made Things complicated again. So much for a new start. Here we go again.

I know there are many people who do not understand how anyone could ever have a nice thought on Monty or Bryce and i respect that but please respect my decision too 💐
