Whump/Hurt Prompts

I always have trouble finding darker prompt lists for practice or ask games without a lot of hunting, so I decided to make some of my own. Feel free to use.

Hurt them with:

◈ A knife

◈ A hammer

◈ Pliers

◈ Crushing or severing a limb

◈ An animal or creature

◈ A whip

◈ A kitchen implement or appliance

◈ Thorns or brambles

◈ Rope, wire, or chains

◈ A bear trap

◈ Poison

◈ One of their phobias

◈ A ritual object

◈ Lighter or candle flame

◈ An ice-filled bath

◈ Electric shocks

◈ Drowning or waterboarding

◈ Something they asked for

◈ A memory

◈ A loved one or companion forced to suffer instead

◈ One of their own possessions

Give me more impossible choices for characters. This is something I don't see enough of in whump here and it's my jam.

Make them pick between two loved ones. Or make them choose between a loved one and a core value or belief, or even other people they don't know. Let them decide what is saved and what is hurt or horrifically destroyed and then force them to live with the guilt.

Bonus points for it being a defiant, hopeful, or incredibly strong willed character who hasn’t cracked under the strain until this point.

Have them carry that, and come to terms with it, wrestle with it, make peace with it and eventually heal.

Or not.

Let it destroy them. Eat them up from the inside because they can’t reconcile what they did. Give me more downward spirals, more dark character arcs, more negative character growth, more villain origins that dig into the meat of why.

Just, more characters being forced to choose between the things they love in ways where they can't just sacrifice themselves or take a third option.

man, I would love to see more toxic/unhealthy/abusive ships in the whump community that aren’t just black and white. like, give me relationships that are messy. give me ones that start out consensual, happy even, and gradually go downhill

give me toxic codependency, give me mutual destruction, give me manipulation and gaslighting, and give me the frog in the boiling water with a whumpee who either doesn't realize or realizes to late that this isn't actually what they want but by the time they want out whumper has their claws in so deep it's nearly impossible

just, overall, give me more nuance. give me gray areas, and antiheroes, or straight up villain protagonists. sweet, meek, good-guy whumpees and ones totally brainwashed to be obedient and 'love' their whumpers are fine, but I would love to see more of the messy side of bad relationships trotted out

give me whumpees who come out the other side meaner, angrier, carrying bad habits they picked up from their whumpers, give them things to unlearn, to struggle with. give me survivors who fought tooth and nail and did what they had to do to get out, but carry guilt because does doing something to survive justify the hurt they caused?

hell, give me survivors who walked into bad things willingly, who made a deal with the devil, who know that the world isn't going to forgive them for the shit they did just because they suffered for it too

idk I just want to see more fucked up little guys do their fucked up little things in ways that aren’t always simple or clean or black or white

also I want more horror-whump but that's neither here nor there
