4. Who can’t keep their hands to themselves? 

Del. Joseph walks around shirtless all the time, and he’s got a banging bod. She can’t help herself.

7. What do they get up to on a night out? 

Lmao, there is fuck all to do in Hope County after nightfall. Probably, like, walks along the Henbane. Stargazing. Things like that. In a no cult AU, Joseph def likes non-standard, but very intimate dates. Jazz clubs, blues dancing, things like that.

10. What two songs, two books and two luxury items do they take to a desert island? 

Obviously answers for Joseph are Amazing Grace, The Book of Joseph, and a shirt.

Not obvious answers are Summertime by Ella Fitzgerald, Immanuel Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason and - for Joseph - a bed is the height of luxury. So definitely a king sized bed with a big fluffy duvet.

You know Del is bringing Toxic by Britney Spears, one of those novels they sell at the grocery store - either a bodice ripper, or something with a Greek symbol on the cover and a Jason Bourne lite plot - and her phone. It may not work, but she can play games.

18. When they fight, how do they make up? 

Sex. Del prefers make-up sex, but Joseph wants to talk it out. King of communication wants to clear the air and make sure there are no lingering bad feelings. It’s the kind of talk that leaves you feeling emotionally wrung out, but all the better for it. And then they have sex.

Day Twenty-Three, Witchdoctor

Pittyober Day 23- Witchdoctor/Shadow

Delphine hadn’t had a dream like that in a long time. Thought, perhaps not a dream, more like a nightmare. Ever since she had grown accustomed to the Queens Vagabond crew, and accustomed to the ship itself, once she felt safe, the nightmares became less and less frequent. Never gone, but far less prevalent than they had been before, they no longer plagued her sleep every single night. But tonight was different, she had woken up in a cold sweat from a nightmare of him. She was back there, back on what used to be her parent's ship which had become his ship, that had become her prison and personal hell for years. She supposed it was the stress of the Marleybone and Valencia war that prompted it, or perhaps her mind had thought she had been given more peace than it should have allowed her. Either way, it didn’t matter, it had led Delphine to the same place either way. 

She hugged her form as a deep chill settled over her form, a shiver racking through her body. She grimaced, she never liked the cold, it always brought back a strew of horrible memories along with it. The ship was cold, and the nights in the sleeping dens of the Krokotopian fighting pits were always cold; neither of those were happy periods of her life. Delphine shut her eyes tightly, squeezing them to try and will the cold away, but it didn’t work. Even the view from the balcony of the Rooke family manor wasn’t enough to distract her from the cool night air of Marleybone, nor the feeling of phantom hands around her waist, her throat, her-

“Delphi?” 

Her thoughts were cut off by the accented voice of Penelope Rooke. She didn’t know whether to be relieved that her mind couldn't venture further or to be upset by her solitude being interrupted by the sorceress. She heard Penelope’s heeled boots approach her, taking her place along the edge of the balcony next to her, leaving a decent amount of space between them. Delphine found herself grateful for Penelope’s thoughtfulness. Penelope stayed quiet for a few moments, from what she saw of her she was still fully dressed, coat and all. Delphine slumped over the balcony railing, while Penelope stood tall, her back to the railing as she leaned against it, her concerned gaze falling on Delphine. A part of her wanted Penelope to stop looking at her, she felt vulnerable, like all the wounds that horrible creature had left her with had been ripped open and lime juice and salt were rubbed into them. But the other part found a strange comfort, one that she still wasn’t used to receiving. There was no judgment in her gaze, no harm meant, no predatory look in her twin hazelnut eyes, just concern.

Penelope must have realized she had begun to stare and tore her gaze away, turning her head to look out into the open night sky. She cleared her throat, “I thought you might be out here, I was in the library when I heard your room door slam shut. You are very light on your feet, you know?” Delphi flinched, she heard Penelope gulp nervously, “I-Its not a bad thing, I just couldn’t find you. I…” she sighed softly as she turned her head to look a the marble floor or the balcony, “I just wanted to make sure you were okay. You are a guest in my family’s manor after all. I would certainly not be a good host if I allowed my guests to feel uncomfortable, now would I?”

Delphine surprised herself when she snorted, she shook her head, “Well we are hardly guests. Your family doesn’t even know we are staying here, now do they?” She grimaced as another frigid breeze past her, her silver curls flying into her face as another shiver racked her frame.

“I suppose you are right, though I hardly doubt they would mind,” Penelope chuckled softly. The Marleybonean frowned, taking off her dark brown wool coat, folding it over her arm, and offering it to Delphine, “Here, you seem to need this more than I.”

She looked at Penelope with wide shocked eyes, “You don’t need to do that. I can manage.”

“Yes, I’m sure you can manage, darling,” Penelope huffed as she shifted, casually yet slowly closing the distance between them and opening up her folded coat. “But you should not have to.” She gestured for Delphine to straighten so she could put her coat around her and she begrudgingly abided. Penelope was gentle with her movements, carefully aiding Delphine’s arms through the arms of the coat, guiding the wool garment around her form with cautious movements. Penelope smiled with pride as she finished, backing away to give Delphine space when she was done, “There, problem solved.”

Delphine pulled the coat closer to herself, relishing in the added warmth and protection from the night air. The garment…it had the scent of old parchment and floral perfume, it smelled like Penelope. She hid her face from the other woman as she felt her cheeks heat up when Penelope settled along the balcony, this time closer to Delphine. “Thank you,” she muttered softly.

“Do not mention it, Delphi. You are a friend, I do not like seeing my friends in distress, dear,” Penelope assured, putting her hand on the railing next to Delphine’s, her pinky brushing against her own. 

Delphine glanced at their hands, biting the inside of her cheek as her gaze lifted carefully to meet Penelope’s, only to find the other woman had a matching blush to her own. She looked away abashedly and Delphine frowned. “Pen, what…what are we? I don’t think we ever came to a decision of that,” her words trailed off into the darkness around them.

The sorceress turned her head back to look at the witchdoctor, she smiled softly, “We are whatever you want us to be, Delphi. We don’t have to rush into anything, we don’t have to be anything yet, not until you’re ready.” Carefully, Penelope moved to intertwine their hands together, Delphine didn’t protest. “We can take this as slow as either of us want, and that means that we can take this as slow as you need, dear. Is that okay with you?”Delphine managed a smile, giving Penelope’s hand a gentle squeeze. Suddenly her fears of her nightmare seemed to slip away, and the remnants of the cold around her seemed to disappear as she looked into those warm hazelnut eyes. “Yes. It’s more than okay with me.”

Not really a duo with another OC but I think Nathaniel and Rook would be interesting to see. One would proclaiming about the beauty in the world, while the other is busy being a pessimistic narcissist. I like to think that if Nathaniel was bragging about how good he has it (Eg: I have a castle, a crown, a title.) Rook would whip out the old ‘I have a s/o’ card and that would shut him up pretty quickly. Now that I think about it I think Nathaniel would observe how Rook would act around his s/o and try to replicate it. Perhaps he could be a good influence?

Although Anna and Delphine have close friends I don’t think they are close knit enough with anyone to be considered in any kind of squad or duo. I would love to see it though.

Del denies it, but she’s superstitious as hell. She reads her horoscope every day, throws salt over her shoulder, never crosses under ladders or opens umbrellas in doors, and knocks on wood. She draws the line at black cats, though, because she loves black cats.

Uli really loved the woman he was with when he met John, but more as a friend than a lover. She was mainly to keep his ultraconservative coworkers from finding out he is bisexual. He was completely honest with her about his preferences, because he knew she wouldn’t say anything, but it still hurt her when they broke up. He regrets that. A lot. 

April’s oldest son is in the Hope County Sheriff’s Department - Nancy wasn’t the only spy in the office. When the Reaping begins, he joins Jacob at the Veteran’s Center as one of his Chosen, and everyone is none the wiser.

There is no room in Mavra’s life for normal people (or as normal as anyone can be post-Collapse). That’s why her only friends are damaged souls (like the Judge). She tends to befriend people who are so preoccupied by their own inner demons that they don’t force her to confront her own. She’s afraid to open up to people, because that makes her vulnerable, and there’s nothing more terrifying.  

Jessie likes to play hooky with Arthur. She’ll say they’re going out to scout for a robbery, or because she heard of a house with pots of money around, when really she just wants to take him to this spot she found. There’s a bend in the river, and a willow tree with the fronds almost touching the ground for shade, and she really wants to take a nap there with him.

Evaline is used to people believing that she’s a sex worker because she used to work in a bath house, but she never bothers correcting them. People believe what they want to believe. And anyway, sticks and stones, etc. It’s only when Micah propositions her, saying that “she’s a whore anyway, what’s one more man?” that she loses her temper. He’s lucky the scratches didn’t scar.

Lovisa walks the nighttime streets of St. Denis without fear or incident, because she’s never had an incident before. She thinks it’s because of the innate goodness of the human soul, but really, it’s that the gang leaders know that she’s a valuable resource and don’t want any harm to come to her. Not until she loses her usefulness, anyway.

Mailys is fascinated by the Nauts, to the despair of her tutors who quickly tire of the endless questions. As a child, her mother said that if she didn’t behave, she would be given to the Nauts. To the princess’ considerable shock, Mailys came down from her room later with her bags packed, ready to go. Imagine her considerable excitement when she is appointed Legate and they make ready to travel to the island, only for the excitement to be quickly overtaken by nausea. Seasickness was not a feature in her very romantic daydreams about ship life.

WHY NOT BOTH?

Del:

After my family...well, after I moved in with the Pratts, I used to have terrible nightmares. I was afraid of the dark, afraid to sleep alone. I used to sneak into my sister’s room, or into Staci’s room, I slept under the bed. I even begged Mr. Pratt to stand outside of my door to keep the bad man from getting me. For months, the only way I could fall asleep was if the hall light was on and I could see Mr. Pratt’s shadow in the hall. I remember one night, Mr. Pratt brought home a teddy bear in a deputy’s uniform and told me that it would keep me safe while I was sleeping - probably in the desperate hope that he would finally get a decent night’s sleep. That night, he put me to bed with Deputy Teddy, and was woken two hours later by me running into their room, sobbing. Apparently, the family dog decided that Deputy Teddy wanted to play with him and dragged him into his lair under the kitchen table, and I woke up alone. After that, Deputy Teddy got backup, in the form of four more stuffed animals.

3) Who is more into taking showers/baths together? Who tries to make it relaxing and who tries to make it sexy time?

Okay, so both of them know that they have to shower separately if they don’t have time, because hanky-panky will be happening. If they do have a little time, Del is the one more likely to slip into the shower with Joseph and start a little something. Baths are generally for relaxation, or a little intimate alone time, so sexy time is pretty much expected.

5) Who sleeps on the couch when they get into a fight?

Del, being the dramatic ho that she is, will huffily remove herself from the bedroom mid-fight and flop down onto the couch with threats to stay there all night. Joseph always follows her out and brings her right back into the bedroom to resolve things. He refuses to go to sleep angry, and he’s not going to sleep without her. Not when he’s already spent so long sleeping alone.

7) Who said “I love you” first? and who ends their arguments in a fight with “Because I love you”?

After pining for each other for months like idiots, Del said it first.  Joseph is much more likely to end fights with the “I love you” (see above).

🖊 - Del isn’t a bad cook, but she did once hear that the way to test if spaghetti is finished cooking is to throw it against the wall. She didn’t know you’re only supposed to do one noodle, so Staci once came home to her just flinging spaghetti at the kitchen wall. That’s how they learned that overcooked spaghetti sticks like wallpaper paste.

🖊 - It’s hard for Del to make room in her bed for anyone. Not emotionally, but physically. She has her two cats, four full size pillows, and innumerable throw pillows. But she also has a queen size, and Joseph only has a full size in his small home. As he says, he was never expecting to have anyone to share it again.

🖊 - April loves to wear lingerie, even if she’s the only one who knows what she’s got under her clothes. It gives her a huge rush of confidence and it makes her feel sexy. And when she knows Jacob is going to come by, well, then that’s when she breaks out lingerie designed to stop blood from flowing above the neck and stop heart beats.

🖊 - April comes from old money - her grandfather was a senator, and her grandmother was an heiress from one of those turn of the century businesses whose name is now so synonymous with a product that people forget they were actually people and think of it as a brand alone. When she joined the cult, she signed over power of attorney, and by default, most of the money, over to John.

🖊 - Uli once broke his grandmother’s window with a slingshot and lied about it when he was seven. For weeks was afraid to go to sleep at night because of the “if I should die before I wake, I pray the lord my soul to take” childhood prayer, because he thought he was going to hell. He broke down crying one night because of it and his parents had a hard time containing their laughter long enough to put his mind at ease.

🖊 - Uli has always wanted to try pole dancing, because he’s heard it’s an amazing work out, but also because it’s sexy as hell. He’s never actually going to do it, because he’s super conscious of his image, but that doesn’t mean he’s not tempted the few times he passes by a signpost or a light pole.

🚙 + Del!

Okay, first off, Del is never the first driver.

Driving first is a scary, jittery feeling and she doesn’t like it. Generally, she likes it when there are three people on the trip because she likes to nap for like the first hour or so and then she likes to argue about who controls the music. She’s completely useless as a navigator unless using google maps. If there’s no service, they’re definitely going to get lost and add a good 3 hour detour to their trip.

She and Staci like all the same snack foods, so generally they get a big tub of red vines, two kinds of popcorn (white cheddar and caramel), and a big bag of starburst. (Growing up together means that they learned to like different colors so they could have equal amounts. Del likes red, Staci likes pink).

For their first road trip, Joseph packed the snacks. Imagine Del’s horror when she opened the bags and found sugar snap peas, baby carrots, and fresh fruits. (The clementines were fine. But plums? Joseph, really?) and after that he was no longer allowed to pick snacks. Or music.

His music makes her sleepy. And she blasts hers at a volume that will make your eardrums melt, so he complains that he can’t sleep while she drives. And then she says that he should be keeping her company, not sleeping. And then he says he can’t do that anyway because the volume of the music and turns it down. Then Del pouts for the next 20 miles or until she forgets what they were fighting about.

The good thing is that once Del is in the driver’s seat, she could go for hours. She’s got the stamina and the staying power for those drive through the night trips. The minute she switches out, though, she’s down.

15. What was your OC’s childhood like?

Up until the age of six or so, it was very idyllic. She was the youngest of five children - three older brothers and one older sister - and they squabbled, sure, but they were very happy.

16. What is your OC’s strongest childhood memory? Why and how as that impacted him/her?

Del’s father ends up snapping under the pressure of medical bills, losing his job, and looming bankruptcy. One night, he kills her mother and her brothers. Her older sister dragged her from bed and the two of them run, barefoot and nightgowned, to their closest neighbors - who would be the Pratt family, and I also headcanon that Papa Pratt is a sheriff’s deputy at this point - and they call the authorities.

This is her strongest childhood memory and a source of, like, so much trauma.

17. What is your OC’s imagination like?

Let’s put it this way, she spent more time off playing with the fairies than not. Rather prone to daydreaming.

18. How many times did your OC move as a child?  Which area was his/her favorite?

Twice that she can remember: once to Hope County, and then into the Pratt house. She LOVES Hope County.

19. What does your OC think of children- either in general or about having them?

So, Del loves children. She really wants them, but she and Joseph never have any biologically. They do end up adopting eight, though: Elias, Killian, Aubrey, Cece, Tessie, Jessie, Charlie, and Noah.

20. What kind of mother/father would your OC be?

Del is the kind of mom who keeps all of the baby mementos, remembers the names of all imaginary friends and teddy bears, mom dances to her kids’ music, and definitely smothers them in kisses in front of their friends solely to embarrass them. She always ends up caring for all the animals that get brought home, even though she said the only way they could come home was if (child) took care of them.

21. Who are your OC’s closest relatives?

One older sister, no grandparents that she knows of.

22. Who is/are your OC’s closest friend(s)?

Staci Pratt. Brother from another mother. Tweedledee to her Tweedledum.

23. Who are the people your OC surrounds him/herself with?

Nick Rye is a good friend, so it hurts when he and Kim cut her out when she takes up with Joseph. She likes hanging around Hurk. She finds him hilarious, and she loves his stories.

24. Who are the people your OC dislikes/hates?

Del isn’t the type to hate people. Burke. Megan.

25. If your OC has a soulmate, who is it?

It’s Joseph.

🖊 - Del loves pineapple on pizza. It’s delicious. Don’t fight her on this, because you’ll just die tired and mad.

🖊 - Her favorite movie of all time (aside from The Princess Bride, which is everyone’s favorite movie) is The Court Jester (1955). She quotes the part where they say, “get it, got it, good” all the time. Staci is the only one who gets the reference for the longest time. Until one day, one fateful family dinner, Jacob quotes it back at her.

🖊 - Del likes to ask Staci stupid questions when they’re on patrol together. Like, Yahoo Answers stupid kind of questions. The kind of questions you think are really profound when you’re totally stoned, but are just really stupid. Things like, “if space is the final frontier, what is it a frontier to?”

But Del is just like that all the time, no weed required.

Ivy’s normally a lovely person, but she has absolutely no patience for people who make the same tired joke about a woman called Ivy studying botany and becoming a florist 🙄

No Poison Ivy jokes, got it.

The whole reason Del goes by a nickname is that she was saddled with the name Delphine at birth. It’s one of those names that never gets spelled right at Starbucks, that you never find novelty name keychains for, and then you get the recorded messages calling her Del-puh-hine and you have a recipe for a miserable youth.

She has the same problem as Ivy as far as dumb jokes go. It’s the old “haha, yeah, I’ve NEVER HEARD THAT BEFORE” 😐😐😐

🖊 🖊 🖊 - one each for Del, Uli and April 👀

🖊  - Ngl, John and Jacob are not huge fans of Del’s originally and not just because she was the deputy sent to arrest Joseph that night. They find her silly and a bit flighty and irresponsible. That all changes during a family dinner when she says something that makes Joseph laugh so hard he can’t breathe. It’s been years since they’ve seen him so happy, and they warm up considerably after that. Faith thaws towards her when she sees that Del has no intention of usurping her position as Faith.

🖊  - Uli doesn’t believe the collapse is coming, and it puts considerable strain on his relationship with John. Especially when the reaping begins. John honestly considers just kidnapping him and locking him in the bunker. Eventually, it gets to the point where the anxiety gets to be too much for John and he kind of...breaks down. Crying, hands shaking, and he confesses that he loves Uli so much, and he’s afraid he’s going to lose him. So even if he doesn’t believe Joseph, he knows that John does. So Uli heads to a bunker and gets the shock of his life when the bombs actually do go off.

🖊  - April was really well-respected in Hope County before the events in game. She was known for “forgetting” to bill patients if they couldn’t afford her services. She ran a free clinic, and she was always on hand for emergencies if people couldn’t get to the nearest hospital. All of that goodwill dried up during the reaping and she became a cult VIP with a target on her head. Or so she thought. She was in a convoy that got hit by the resistance, and her driver and bodyguard were both shot, but the resistance member who was supposed to take her out hesitated at the last minute and let her run away, because she had treated his infant daughter.
