Three days later, April had decided that she preferred Jacob Seed comatose. The drugs had slowly started to work their way out of his system, and since then, he had been fighting her every step of the way, even if he couldn’t stand on his own without falling. He had even tried to check himself out at one point.

“As thrilling as the sight of your bare ass is, I’m going to have to ask you to get back into your bed, Jacob.”

The glare he sent her way made April check her eyebrows - she was actually afraid they might have been singed off.

This was really hard, because I’m super happy with what I have in progress, but I don’t want to spoil it.

“Person gets a look in their eye when their time is running out.” Arousal coated his voice thickly, glinted in his eyes. April had to squeeze her own eyes shut as the barrel of the gun, so recently pressed between her eyes, slid down to her jaw in a sick facsimile of a caress.

From his place, kneeling in the dirt beside her, her bodyguard - Ben, his name was Ben - lurched to his feet. He swung his body hard into their captor and sent them both sprawling.

“Run!” He shouted. “Run now.”

April lurched to her feet, sick with terror, nearly blind with it. She stumbled on the mulchy grass, nearly slipped, before she righted herself and kept running. She heard the curses, the crack of twigs beneath her feet as she fled. And she kept running, the scream echoing in her head when she heard the gunshot.

13. What do they do for fun? Do they have a favorite activity or do they like to switch things up?

Sex. These two tend to get stuck in a rut, honestly. Hanged Man, drinks, wicked grace, more drinks, kill slavers, rinse, repeat. Kirkwall is not exactly a lovers’ delight on a moonlit night, if you know what I mean.

But they like being together most of all. Fenris likes to read in front of the fire, either each reading their own books or Fenris reading aloud - especially as he gets more confident. They like cooking together, going to the market together. Normal, domestic, couple-y things that they almost never get to do.

 45. Any special dreams or goals they have as a couple? Any heartbreaks? Regrets?

Aside from the normal, everyday heartaches and disappointments that come with living, they have few regrets. One of the big ones was Hawke becoming the Viscount of Kirkwall. The other was the decision to put off having a family while everything was so volatile, but it was definitely necessary at the time. The ultimate goal is to retire from being Hawke and go live somewhere quiet and peaceful.

They would die of boredom inside of two weeks, but it’s the thought that counts.

13. What do they do for fun? Do they have a favorite activity or do they like to switch things up?

They’re both so busy with the Project that they don’t really have a lot of time for fun, but any time spent together is a favorite activity. In the no-cult AU, though, they like to take the motorcycle out into the hills - especially in the fall, when the leaves all change colors. They just like to be together, where it’s quiet and peaceful in any universe.

45. Any special dreams or goals they have as a couple? Any heartbreaks? Regrets?

Listen, these two are doomed to heartbreak, no matter which way you look at it. Surviving the Collapse was the goal, lbr.

I was married once, before Henry, while I was in medical school. It was a silly thing to do. We were both young, we had barely been dating for more than six weeks. The marriage itself barely lasted four months before my parents got wind of it. They arranged a very discreet divorce and then I had to move back home, as they believed I had proved I wasn’t responsible enough to live on my own without making stupid decisions. It was my first taste of rebellion, and those four months were the sweetest time in my life, up until the birth of my first child.

Del denies it, but she’s superstitious as hell. She reads her horoscope every day, throws salt over her shoulder, never crosses under ladders or opens umbrellas in doors, and knocks on wood. She draws the line at black cats, though, because she loves black cats.

Uli really loved the woman he was with when he met John, but more as a friend than a lover. She was mainly to keep his ultraconservative coworkers from finding out he is bisexual. He was completely honest with her about his preferences, because he knew she wouldn’t say anything, but it still hurt her when they broke up. He regrets that. A lot. 

April’s oldest son is in the Hope County Sheriff’s Department - Nancy wasn’t the only spy in the office. When the Reaping begins, he joins Jacob at the Veteran’s Center as one of his Chosen, and everyone is none the wiser.

There is no room in Mavra’s life for normal people (or as normal as anyone can be post-Collapse). That’s why her only friends are damaged souls (like the Judge). She tends to befriend people who are so preoccupied by their own inner demons that they don’t force her to confront her own. She’s afraid to open up to people, because that makes her vulnerable, and there’s nothing more terrifying.  

Jessie likes to play hooky with Arthur. She’ll say they’re going out to scout for a robbery, or because she heard of a house with pots of money around, when really she just wants to take him to this spot she found. There’s a bend in the river, and a willow tree with the fronds almost touching the ground for shade, and she really wants to take a nap there with him.

Evaline is used to people believing that she’s a sex worker because she used to work in a bath house, but she never bothers correcting them. People believe what they want to believe. And anyway, sticks and stones, etc. It’s only when Micah propositions her, saying that “she’s a whore anyway, what’s one more man?” that she loses her temper. He’s lucky the scratches didn’t scar.

Lovisa walks the nighttime streets of St. Denis without fear or incident, because she’s never had an incident before. She thinks it’s because of the innate goodness of the human soul, but really, it’s that the gang leaders know that she’s a valuable resource and don’t want any harm to come to her. Not until she loses her usefulness, anyway.

Mailys is fascinated by the Nauts, to the despair of her tutors who quickly tire of the endless questions. As a child, her mother said that if she didn’t behave, she would be given to the Nauts. To the princess’ considerable shock, Mailys came down from her room later with her bags packed, ready to go. Imagine her considerable excitement when she is appointed Legate and they make ready to travel to the island, only for the excitement to be quickly overtaken by nausea. Seasickness was not a feature in her very romantic daydreams about ship life.

🖊 - Del isn’t a bad cook, but she did once hear that the way to test if spaghetti is finished cooking is to throw it against the wall. She didn’t know you’re only supposed to do one noodle, so Staci once came home to her just flinging spaghetti at the kitchen wall. That’s how they learned that overcooked spaghetti sticks like wallpaper paste.

🖊 - It’s hard for Del to make room in her bed for anyone. Not emotionally, but physically. She has her two cats, four full size pillows, and innumerable throw pillows. But she also has a queen size, and Joseph only has a full size in his small home. As he says, he was never expecting to have anyone to share it again.

🖊 - April loves to wear lingerie, even if she’s the only one who knows what she’s got under her clothes. It gives her a huge rush of confidence and it makes her feel sexy. And when she knows Jacob is going to come by, well, then that’s when she breaks out lingerie designed to stop blood from flowing above the neck and stop heart beats.

🖊 - April comes from old money - her grandfather was a senator, and her grandmother was an heiress from one of those turn of the century businesses whose name is now so synonymous with a product that people forget they were actually people and think of it as a brand alone. When she joined the cult, she signed over power of attorney, and by default, most of the money, over to John.

🖊 - Uli once broke his grandmother’s window with a slingshot and lied about it when he was seven. For weeks was afraid to go to sleep at night because of the “if I should die before I wake, I pray the lord my soul to take” childhood prayer, because he thought he was going to hell. He broke down crying one night because of it and his parents had a hard time containing their laughter long enough to put his mind at ease.

🖊 - Uli has always wanted to try pole dancing, because he’s heard it’s an amazing work out, but also because it’s sexy as hell. He’s never actually going to do it, because he’s super conscious of his image, but that doesn’t mean he’s not tempted the few times he passes by a signpost or a light pole.

So, my OC April has three children who are fully grown by the events of FC5. I can’t stop the thought of one of her kids being the junior deputy. I can just imagine them walking into the church with Whitehorse and Burke.

Joseph holds out his hands and instead of slapping on cuffs, the dep takes his hands and just says, “Father.”

And then just fucking turns and hugs Jacob and says, “dad.”

From here. I’m going to do canon divergent April/Jacob (where April takes charge of his care after he gets discharged), because my slow ass still hasn’t finished any of their fics and I want to talk about them.

Let’s just hope this blue hellsite doesn’t mess up the formatting.

1. What are things they both find funny?

Jacob loves old school comedians - Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, and Danny Kaye (because of course he does). April really likes improv comedy - she’s very smart, but she could never come up with stuff like that on the spot and she really enjoys it.

2. If they could each describe each other in one sentence, what would it be?

It depends entirely on what stage of their relationship they’re in. In the beginning, April uses the phrase “stubborn pig-headed bag of Brussels sprouts” (she has three kids, she has to get creative and not swear) to describe Jacob, and he calls her a starry eyed idealist.

Of course, with time comes familiarity. Eventually, as they grow closer and events eventuate, April comes to think of Jacob as her rock. Solid and dependable. Jacob thinks of April as his water (bear with me on this one), since she adapts when he’s stubborn and doesn’t budge, and she wears away his rough edges (boom, came through with the metaphor at the end)

3. If they complimented each other, what would they say?

April likes to compliment him by telling him how much better her life is with him in it. She also likes to compliment his brain every now and then, because he’s been treated like just a tool for so long, and he’s much more than that.

On the opposite side of that coin, April has been treated like - idk, webmd? - she was always expected to be smart, but emotionless. I think Jacob compliments her on her kindness, and her compassion.

Neither of them are super effusive, but in quiet, tender moments, these are the things that will slip out.

4. What would be their ship name?

Japril? Aprob? Jacril?

5. What activities do they enjoy together?

Morning coffee is the biggie. They like to connect in the morning before life, work, and duty pull them apart. Outside of that, both of them enjoy being outdoors. April isn’t really the camping sort, but she likes going on walks with him when the sun just starts to go down. (Jacob gets a motorcycle and even though April likes to call it a death machine, they def go on rides into the mountains in the fall when the leaves change color. Just imagine his therapy dog in the sidecar, floppy ears trailing in the wind)

Also, family activities with April’s kids.

Days at the lake, baseball games in the park. In short, everything Jacob wishes he had growing up, but never did. I just imagined him thinking of Joseph and John and wishing they were there to enjoy it with him and made myself sad

🖊 🖊 🖊 - one each for Del, Uli and April 👀

🖊  - Ngl, John and Jacob are not huge fans of Del’s originally and not just because she was the deputy sent to arrest Joseph that night. They find her silly and a bit flighty and irresponsible. That all changes during a family dinner when she says something that makes Joseph laugh so hard he can’t breathe. It’s been years since they’ve seen him so happy, and they warm up considerably after that. Faith thaws towards her when she sees that Del has no intention of usurping her position as Faith.

🖊  - Uli doesn’t believe the collapse is coming, and it puts considerable strain on his relationship with John. Especially when the reaping begins. John honestly considers just kidnapping him and locking him in the bunker. Eventually, it gets to the point where the anxiety gets to be too much for John and he kind of...breaks down. Crying, hands shaking, and he confesses that he loves Uli so much, and he’s afraid he’s going to lose him. So even if he doesn’t believe Joseph, he knows that John does. So Uli heads to a bunker and gets the shock of his life when the bombs actually do go off.

🖊  - April was really well-respected in Hope County before the events in game. She was known for “forgetting” to bill patients if they couldn’t afford her services. She ran a free clinic, and she was always on hand for emergencies if people couldn’t get to the nearest hospital. All of that goodwill dried up during the reaping and she became a cult VIP with a target on her head. Or so she thought. She was in a convoy that got hit by the resistance, and her driver and bodyguard were both shot, but the resistance member who was supposed to take her out hesitated at the last minute and let her run away, because she had treated his infant daughter.

5. Do they have any unappealing habits (ex: picking their nose, hawking loogies)?

She’s a surgeon, she tends to overshare on grisly details during mealtimes, because it just...does not register that other people may not have the stomachs of concrete elephants.

23. When engaged in an irritating conversation, how to they conduct themselves?

Stoneface right here, April gives nothing away with her face, but she will extricate herself at the very first opportunity.

31. What story gave them nightmares as a child?

Any and every version of Pinocchio.

46. What is something they’ve always wanted to do, but know they shouldn’t?

She’s always wanted to get a body piercing, but she’s never been brave enough.

🍓 - April was never very religious, but going through confession with John changed that. Sitting down and confessing was a surprisingly cathartic experience. She wasn’t thrilled about getting Pride carved into her, but the whole thing was very freeing. (I may or may not have a WIP about this 👀)

🖊 - Del loves her little catnaps. She can go on very little actual sleep at night, provided that she can take a little 20 minute nap (preferably in the sunshine, because, you know, catnap) at some point during the day. After her nap, she’s fresh as a daisy, but any longer than 30 minutes and she gets a nap hangover.

🖊 - Uli plays rugby and he likes to give John really tight hugs after games, when he’s all sweaty and gross, because he knows John hates it and he’s a little shit. That ain’t all he ikes to do after a game, but John insists on a shower first. Or in the shower.

🖊 - April smoked one (1) cigarette during her rebellious phase (it lasted about an hour) and she got really really sick. So, when her children started going through their rebellious phases, she let them sneak that bottle of bourbon or that cigarette they thought no one would notice. And she let them get really really sick, and then she just waited until guilty consciences kicked in and they confessed. She just asked if it was worth it.

✍ - a memory of their mother

When she was six years old, she remembers being afraid of the dark. She wanted to sleep in her parents’ room, but she remembers her mother taking her by the hand and putting her back into bed, with the door shut so she couldn’t see the hallway light. She was told to not be silly and go to sleep.

(I’m not on mobile, so I’m assuming the second one was the moon, because it’s just a square on desktop, and it was a purple moon when I checked my phone, so let me know if you want another one)

☽ - a memory of their father

When April graduated medical school summa cum laude, she saw her father get to his feet and applaud. It’s the first time she can ever remember him telling her that he was proud of her.
