Hiii here's what I've been cooking up 😳

I've had this idea for a while actually! This is a laidback thing, a proper zine takes much muuuuch more effort and time to manage than I what I have, but as a friend project it'd be fun I think! A couple friends already showed interest so I got some courage to post haha

I made a little form for anyone interested, if you have any questions lmk!

If someone wants to do the same after seeing this I'd appreciate a mention btw ^^

Here's the sketches so far 💖

I planned to use the first one as a cover for either the gen zine or the Piraticus one, depending if I could get ppl interested or not. But for Piraticus I got the idea for the trio yesterday and I'll go with it, since I have an idea to connect it with the backover too >:3

I wanted each of the six pages to be for each chara and show more of them. (order so far would be Conrad / Tink / Krok / Clyde & Figaro / Gwen / Percy & Jude)

So far we'll have Tink pranking Heartslabyul with the growth/shrink cookies (rip Deuce). And for Krok I want to try a more Nouveau style relating to time.

I've yet to get inspiration for the others but I'm taking it easy

Winter was the coldest season, but that was only half true when it came to Piraticus. Its unique warm climate, seeming almost tailor made for playing all day comfortably, meant that during winter it became a hub of meaningless errands that other dorm students had come up with while seeking a respite from the harsher cold outside. The fairy heating system was excellent all over the school, but Crowley had insisted that completely nullifying the change of seasons wouldn’t do any favours to the student’s health. Gwen, though, guessed it had more to do with his pockets than a sudden naturalistic streak.

All considered, it was strange she found no other students waiting at the gates of the dorm. She spared a fond glance at the mermaid statue proudly holding the rainbow atop the mirror gate before crossing, now adorned by a thin branch sporting roundish leaves and white berries. Immediately she was welcomed by a gentle sun warming her to the very tip of her ears, and a surprised Captain.

— ”Gwen, my girl! Whatever do we owe the visit to?”

There is a pout of her lips as she brings her eyes up, thinking of an excuse before simply shrugging.

— “No particular reason then? Why, that’s the highest compliment, you know! But, ah, this week might be a tad…” 

As Conrad makes a flourish with his hand, searching for the right word, Gwen leans to the side just in time to see further ahead a redheaded boy lurch for Tink- and getting jumped on like a gymnastic’s vaulting horse in quite the spectacular fashion. 

— “... lively, so to say. It’s mistletoe week!”

Right at the edge of the palm tree leaves sits another little mistletoe, its white berries almost glowing with joy at the mischief they promote. Gwen can’t help a smile as she notices a couple more around the beach.

— “Let me guess, you boys made it into another game.”

— “Spot on, my dear! A harmless one I assure you, taking place entirely inside our little island. You can imagine the disastrous results it’d have to extend it over school, let alone the other dorms!”

True, quite a bit of Piraticus was used to 'european greetings' as she called them, a term that had confused about everyone else, so it wasn't that unusual. Elsewhere... Gwen spares a thought of sneaking one of the mistletoes into Heartslabyul or Scarabia before dismissing it with a giggle. Conrad doesn’t miss the twinkle in her eye, and continues on with a smug smile.

— “Now now, we kiss on the cheek. Or forehead, nose too, perhaps eyelids when there’s no time to aim properly. The fun part is tricking your target to stand in the right spot and catching them by surprise! And of course, to foil any attempts at such from others.”

— “The spots, uh, change at the night. You know… keeps it fresh.”

A drawling voice comes from the bushes, and now that she trains her ear Gwen can also hear the lazy ticking of a clock. She peeks over the foliage to find Krok resting sideways in a little spot of flowers and sunlight, tail swishing up and down bemusedly.

— “Chas-”

— “Hunting.”  A hand sticking from behind the bushes corrects.

— “Yes, ‘hunting’” — Conrad rolls his eyes dramatically when using the word, gesturing at his laying companion — “is as valid as any other way of playing. So is ambushing your target with the help of others.”

— “Tink.”

A pause.

— “He, uh, is the one they do it to, I mean… ‘cuz flying’s pretty, um, unfair... And all.”

Even with the extra help he must be as slippery as they come, she imagines. Looking further up the beach she can see the aforementioned fairy mocking several students from above, as they curse him for being a cheater. If one knows the students it’s clear both parties are having fun despite looking close to starting a brawl, and if one truly knows them then they’d know the brawl is another part of the fun for them.

— “Wanna join?”

The question comes from a now reclining crocodile. Conrad makes a face at that, composing himself when Gwen and him exchange glances. Cocking her head in thought for a moment, she replies with a smile a second later.

— “Yep! It looks fun! But absolutely no wrestling, roughousing or horseplay for me.” — Gwen pulls up a finger for each one with one hand, and rests the other on her hip.

— “Well, yes… As the little lady of the dorm it ought to be fine. I doubt any of the lads could find it in themselves to be rough to you. But! In the case they should overstep-”

— “It will be fine Captain Worrywat. I plan to play as a lady should, with wits and grace!”

Literally, Gwen has no choice but look up at Conrad, but figuratively she very much has the smug aura of someone looking down at her present company. Childishly he sticks his tongue out to her, and she replies in kind. With a pat or two on her head Conrad sends her forwards.

— “Yeah yeah, miss worldly wisdom, go ahead and put us all to shame! You’re getting none of the usual welcome smooches until the game ends, so you best earn them!”

With a giggle and a skip on her step Gwen sets out to survey and scheme. ☆
