#oc: Danica Yamamoto

Baking is something Cyrus has never really considered for himself. Even now as he takes his recent attempt of poffins out on a tray. Danica was always better at the craft, and yet she still encouraged him to at least give it a try. Maybe for him to develop a non-tech based hobby now that he was able to live on his own. He can appreciate the effort,but he doubts it's -

"Heeeeeeeey Cyrus, how's it going!"

"Cynthia."

Cynthia stands near his main doorway, having slammed it open - he could have sworn he locked it- a grin on her face akin to a child causing problems on purpose. She never fully changed from her child self, he thinks.

Cynthia opens her mouth to say something, but her eyes quickly lay upon the tray of poffins that Cyrus has just baked. Fortunately, she near the door, so by the time she rushed over to grab one, Cyrus has pulled the tray up and held it slightly behind him. Now there's a kitchen island and himself in the way of her thieving endeavors. But knowing Cynthia, that will most likely not stop her.

" You understand it's rude to barge into others' homes uninvited," Cyrus says calmly, eyeing Cynthia's movements. Cynthia simply smiles, that smile that always knows something that he doesn't even though he knows she doesn't- Cyrus shakes his head before he can get annoyed.

" I was just checking in," Cynthia says cooly, " And be thankful , it was supposed to be Flint today,". That made Cyrus shutter a little, " Also can I have a poffin? Pretty please?"

Cyrus huffs, " So you do know manners,". If he was stubborn, he could deny her. A small act of revenge for ruining his peaceful tranquility. Though ...knowing how easy she can take things, it probably wouldn't bother her. She could leave here and yet whatever flavor of ice cream without a second thought. It wouldn't hurt to have a taste tester, either. Cyrus thinks. He sighs, putting his tray back on the kitchen island.

"Only one," he says sternly, just as Cynthia's hand hovers before a poffin. She rolls her eyes, only picking up one, and then flicking the pastry into her mouth. Cyrus can't help but tense up as she chews, caring for the results of his pastry.

" .....So?"

" Pretty bland," Cynthia says bluntly. Cyrus doesn't know whether to be annoyed or not, " But it's a good effort! If you keep practicing, I'm sure -"

" Please save your champion speeches, Cynthia," Cyrus sighs, taking a poffin for himself.

"Champion- I was being encouraging!"

"Mm-hm"

" You- whatever!" she grabs a handful of poffins for herself, and turns around in a huff. If the world knew that this was their beloved Cynthia, they would simply faint from the shock. Cyrus smirks at the thought.

" Please close the door on your way out," Cyrus dryly, " And I'm doing fine. You forgot to ask that,"

Ever since he got a place of his own after bunkering with the Yamamoto family, the league has decided to do monthly check one with Cyrus to ensure he isn't planning anything. He wasn't. He long since abandoned his plans after his time with the Yamamoto's. Though he understands the concern. Cynthia's visits, however, tend to check on his well being more than anything. How are you adjusting, has anyone talked to you, anything interesting has happened, etc etc. At first it was annoying. Very annoying. And confusing- though many acts of kindness confuse him, even now. He knows she's still wary. He knows their "friendship" of the past cannot be easily fixed. But he's trying to at least accept she cares, somewhat. Cares enough to barge into his home and eat his bland poffins, anyway.

"You're making poffins, Cyrus," She turns around with a small smile, " Just to get a new hobby. I don't think the old you would have done that. You're doing fine,I think".

Cyrus doesn't need validation.....and yet he smiles back.

" Thank you, Cynthia," as soon as the smile appears, it's gone again, " Please knock next time."

Cynthia just shrugs, waving a free hand before closing the door behind her. Cyrus looked at the poffin in his hand. He takes a bite......and frowns.

It's not that bland.

I cannot stress this enough, this woman is generally unfazed by the shit she see's( she saw the embodiment of anti-matter and named him Mr.Cuddles for fun). Telling an evil and dangerous villain twice her size and 5 times her strength is something she does on the weekends

Good Talk

Summary: Kiran tries to be more vulnerable with his travel mates.

Notes: This was going to be hurt and comfort but it ended up just being hurt. Whoops! Takes place during the Platinum Arc of the Legendverse.

" Hey." Kiran speaks up. He doesn't look at either of them, eyes fixated on the campfire flames. Even so he looks…. hesitant. Unsure. But he takes a breath.

" Are....you guys okay?" He speaks out slowly, bashfully turning his gaze to his….comrades. Danica and Barry look at each other, before turning to Kiran with a shrug.

" I feel fine," Danica says bluntly, her voice ever so monotone.

" Yeah, I don't feel sick or anything!" Barry chimes in, also missing point. Kiran frowns, eyebrows furrowing slightly.

" No- I don't mean physically," He shakes his head, " I mean emotionally. Are you guys okay, emotionally," he clarified, and that had a reaction from his travel mates. Immediately they both tense up, Barry looking away, while Kiran can see Danica's often hidden eyebrows lower. Her mouth is often hidden behind her scarf, but Kiran knows by now she's frowning.

Neither speaks, so Kiran speaks up again.

" I…I just think this is a lot," he starts, his mind thinking back to the past year. A lot was an understatement. None of them would have expected to be facing off a literal terrorist group. Danica, especially, who seems to be the one constantly running into them the most. The explosion in Pastoria City and Lake Valor was scary, to put it simply. While they weren't allowed to see the damage within The Great Marsh, but seeing all those water type pokemon dead it was….it was a lot.

" And there's more ahead so….I just wanted to, you know, check in,".

Danica and Barry were still silent. Danica, he'd except, but from Barry? That's how he knows it's bad. He is about to push again when Barry speaks up.

" I hate them," Barry mutters, and Kiran isn't sure if it's the fire or something else, but Barry's eyes burn with rage, his usually cheery demeanor replaced with something so…foul. It was a bit unnerving, " We have to stop them. We have to,"

Kiran tries not to frown. That didn't answer his question, but seeing Barry's rage makes him back off a bit. He didn't want another argument between the two. Not when he's trying to be vulnerable, for Arceus sake.

" Danica?" Kiran eyes the youngest of the three, so is ironically facing off against Team Galactic the most. It makes his stomach turn, really. She's only 11…..though he supposed being 12 and 13 aren't any better.

Danica doesn't speak, as usual, simply looking at Kiran. Dark brown eyes- red, with the fire's light reflecting off of them ( Kiran adds that to another list of things that make Danica a tad unsettling)- meets lighter brown ones. She says nothing. But, for a second, Kiran sees it. Fear. And as soon as Kiran is even able to recognize it, it's gone, her eyes showing absolutely nothing. A dark void, emotions hidden in its depth. She turns away too.

" I agree with Barry," she says, monotone as always, but always as soft as a whisper.

It's….irritating. It's clear that none of them are okay with being in the center of this mess. Even with Cynthia's and Looker's help, it always falls back to them. They are not okay. So why can't they just say it?! ( ….he supposed he's no better. Alas)

Kiran doesn't push further after that, giving up before the battle has even begun.

" Alright then," he says, looking at the fire as well. They continue into the night in silence. Emotions only continue to bubble underneath the surface.

Danica loves baking, and is a huge murder mystery fan ( she got into it from Cynthia)

Alexis is really into music and theater. Now he won't actually perform but if your really quite and sneaky you can hear him singing to his pokemon to sleep. He has a lovely voice.

Noami has her cousins taste for music. She's also really fond of dancing. In her spare time as champion, you could either jamming with Marnie, or practicing a dance number she made up.

Jude would never tell their mom this but they actually like ryhorn racing. Not to the extent of dropping everything they have and becoming a racer, but enough to appreciate the sport. Other than that, their into fashion, but this is Kalos where talking about, so that's a given.

Eva loves technology! She's always trying to either build something, or take down something to rebuild it. Like Elliot, no one ever expects that from her, but she pays them no mind. She's also big on exercise, and if often seen out jogging.

Aster is a surfer true and true. Mantine surfing and regular surfing is her go-to, but she has picked up archery, as courtesy of her starter, and weaving.

There's two other Oc's that have yet to be made ( one for the Johto games and one for emerald) but these are the main guy, gals, and nonbinary pal so far!

It's hard to define what exactly counts as the "old" and "new" protags since they're constantly growing, but here's a run down of how I see the older protag ocs when they were kids....as in actually protagonist.

Jin- Angry, has daddy issues. Wanting to prove themself despite no one asking them to. Petty rivalry with Amber that turned into a big crush. Calms down around Wally, only cause they don't want to scare him. Actively questioning why they- the 12 year old- is fighting eco-terrorist.

Amber/Kohaku - Energetic yet awkward gal, very athletic. Started on the wrong foot with Jin, starting their rivalry....which turned into a big crush ( but that happened a tiny bit later for her). Loves pokemon and wants to know as much as she can about them. Amazing battler but that isn't her priority. Wants to get closer to her dad via studying pokemon ( so she too has daddy issues)

Kenji- Another energetic kid, dreams of being a hero like the famous Red. Very excitable, occasionally loses focus and tends to be reckless. Likes helping in any way he can, even if he finds it boring. "I'm gonna be the very best >:D". Wants everyone, both people and pokemon, to be happy and hate seeing people hurt.

Aiko- Just as excitable as Kenji, though wasn't that interested in battling til Silver called her weak. Not sure what she wanted to do with her life, not sure if she wanted to take up her dad's mantle as a pokemon professor. Stubborn with a strong sense of justice, is not afraid to throw hands.

Beryl- Only planned to be a professor's assistant to Professor Elm. Was not expecting to be the babysitter to two energetic 10 year olds. She takes it the best she can, aiming to fill the Pokedex. They want to prove her older brother wrong, in that being a professor's assistant is worth something. Level headed and honestly very chill, keeps Aiko and Kenji on a leash, while also being the first person Silver properly opens up too.

Danica- Very quiet, borderline creepy girl. Doesn't emote much, no thanks to her scarf covering her mouth and her bangs over her eyebrows. Only friend is Barry, who isn't put off by her at all. Always had an interest in battling and pokemon, and had the goal to be a champion for a while. No one knows what she's thinking, and has an eerieness around her. But she has a good heart, willingly putting herself in danger even at her own risk ( reminder that this girl is 11). May or may not be a bit battle hungry. People think she's the brains for Barry's brawn but honestly they tend to share the same braincell.

Kiran- Son of a problem professors aid, Kiran is Rowans professors assistant that is honestly rather lazy. Rowan forces them to go out with him one day and all of a sudden he's now taking a journey all over Sinnoh, something he was not planning to do whatsoever. But Rowan is insistent that he accompany Danica and Barry so here he is. He's trying ( key word: trying) to fill up the Pokedex for professor Rowan, all while getting wrapped up in Team Galactic which again, he did not plan for. Wants nothing more than to go home and crawl back in his bed....but he would be lying if the situation didn't urk him. Often it is the one raining Danica and Barry in so they can think of a proper plan. May or may not also be trying to stick it to his little sister who somehow has gotten more academic awards than him.

Alexis: A shy kid with big dreams of being champion. Cautious to a fault, Alexis tends to worry about what his journey might bring. He had a right to worry; he is a nuzlocke protagonist. His anxiety and depression grows worse over the course of the journey, but also his ideals and conviction to stop Team Plasma and help N. His friendships with Cheren, Bianca and his twin sister Elliot keeps him together, as well as the surviving members of his team. He's still not in a good mental state by the end of it all.

Elliot: Alexis' rebellious and loud twin sister. She's younger, don't believe her lies. Ready to take on the world and become champion, she wasn't exactly prepared to face Team Plasma and N. However she saw the way they affected her brother and those she cares about and saw red. She has a fighting spirit, and is stubborn to a fault. She hates seeing the ones she loves hurt, and vows to use all the power she has to give those who caused such pain a severe ass kicking.

I think B2W2 and XY are the transition point of the old era to the new, so I won't be going over them here.

Okay I had an idea.

In their search to find Kiran, Danica , Barry and Zora ( Kiran's little sister), with the help of Volo, stumbles across something that can potentially help them find Kiran. Before they could, however, something happens. Just as Danica is about to touch this item,Silver with Celebi besides him bursts into the scene, yelling at them to stop- but it was too late. Time slows down, and Dialga's Roar of Time is heard by all ears. And everything turns white

Barry, Zora and Silver all wake up in a familiar yet unfamiliar place. The surrounding area is absolutely horrific, decay and darkness all around. Barry and Zora are rightfully confused, especially when Danica and Volo are nowhere to be found. Silver, however, has some answers.

The place that they are in is a Doomed Future. One that was caused when Danica was about to touch whatever it was that would hypothetically help the group find Kiran. Silver doesn't know all the details though, but he knew he had to stop this future from happening. Zora points out that they could easily just go back to where they were before with Celebi,which is true but. Celebi isn't with them either. And Silver can't sense it, nor is his powers working. So to put it simply, they're stuck until they find Celebi or another method to get back home. And thus begins their quest in this horrid world.

To cut right to the chase: this Doomed Future was not caused by Cyrus, as Barry would have believed. It was created by Danica and Volo. When Danica touched and used the item they found, Barry and Zora disappeared. Alongside that, Zero ( who probably would have been with Volo btw) crumbled into dust right before him. Volo has changed a lot throughout the years he spent traveling the earth. He has changed for the better. But at that moment, he threw it all out the window. No matter what he does, the gods always punish him. Rip the one he loves right out of his arms again. He's so tired. He's so angry. As for Danica....she lost them all. Her most beloved friends. Two of them right before her eyes. She was completely alone. She couldn't take it. She couldn't.

Now they tried to get them back. They really did. They begged and pleaded but came up with nothing. So they decided to just bring it all down. And that's how this doomed future came to be. Danica was its Queen. Danica has Celebi. So the group knows what to do.

Fast forwarding again, they defeat Danica thanks to Zora ( arceus blood), make the Doomed Future not so Doomed, and get Celebi to get the fuck out of there. This doesn't take as long as pla does. In fact, for Barry, Zora and Silver, it's just a matter of days( thanks Barry) and for Danica and Volo in the present time, it's literally a few second( time did stop lol).

Side note: Silver is progressively getting worse throughout their journey. Somehow, whatever is being done to Celebi by Queen Danica is affecting him, so these three are really on a tense clock to fix shit, or else Silver fucking dies.

And that's the idea! No clue if it'll be canon or not! Also just saying this now, this entire thing was inspired by pokemon Rejuvenation and pokemon explorers of time!

Context: This is maybe a year or so after Danica drags Cyrus out of the distortion world. Because of everything that has happened, he had pretty much been living with the Yamamoto's,with the International Police and the pokemon league ( particularly Cynthia) keep an eye on him. Danica believes in him, if just a tiny bit. Cyrus does not. And right now they're having some hot cocoa Danica made.

Danica: I remember when I beat you the first time. You said that we both suffer from human emotion. That I knew, deep down, the loneliness emotion can bring.

Cyrus: ......

Danica: I knew of the loneliness. But assuming that I thought the same as you was simply incorrect. It was still sweet. How you were trying to reach out I mean.

Cyrus: ( narrows his eyes) I wasn't being "sweet" and I definitely wasn't "reaching out". I was simply stating what you refused to see.

Danica: ( shrugs) You were alone, and you saw how I was alone. You tried to form a connection between us both, even if you were wrong. That's sweet.

Cyrus: ......( Looks down at his drink) You must be incredibly naive to think an attempt at manipulation was "sweet".

Danica: You said something similar when I dragged you out of the distortion world. That I was "naive" to think you would oblige to me and live under the same house as me. ( She takes a small sip of her drink). You haven't exactly proved me wrong though.

Cyrus: ....hmph.

Danica: ....Maybe I am naive. I'm not the type to assume the best in others but I'm also not the type to not too. I just......follow my heart, I suppose.

Cyrus: Your heart told you to foster the man who could have killed you.

Danica: I did not want you to die.

Cyrus: ........ ( He slowly raises his drink to his mouth, taking a sip. It's a bit cold. But still warm) You are truly a foolish, naive girl.

Danica: And you have yet to prove me wrong.

There's no doubt in my mind that the protags are often compared to the previous champion once they gain the title, regardless of who that champion was. But I do think that the Sinnoh and Galar ones have it the worst.

Cynthia is constantly treated as this major threat by the fandom. In game maybe less so, but I wouldn't be surprised if people thought of Cynthia as The Cynthia, you know. So here comes this kid, an 11 year old I must add, who just takes up Cynthia's title? Impossible, there must have been a fluke! Or better yet, Cynthia went easy on her, there's no way someone like Danica would become champion, right? I don't think in the early years of Danica's champion reign she ever really noticed these comments. They weren't exactly the majority and for the most part Danica was living her best life, battling others, training pokemon, gaining an interest in baking. But it's when she gets a little older she actually starts to hear these things said about her. About how she's an imposter. A mere shadow of what Cynthia was. I think that got her really depressed for a while, honestly. Which sucks bc this girl loves battling. Being champion was something she earned and loved, but that small majority just made it so hard. However, I do think that Danica was able to overcome this. At least until Kiran went missing, since at that point she stepped down as Champion. Mostly to focus on finding Kiran, but I wouldn't be surprised if the girl was just tired.

Galar is a while other story, since we can really easily get a sense of how people could react to a champion. Again, while I believe - for the most part - the general public was happy that Naomi was their champion, you can't tell me that the transition from " The Unbeatable Champion Leon!" to " Naomi" isn't jarring to the more die hard fans. Again, like Cynthia, I wouldn't be surprised if some people called Naomi's victory a fluke, that she cheated somehow and that she should be dethroned as champion. Unlike Cynthia n Danica, I think this small majority is waaaay louder than what Sinnoh has to offer. Tabloids talking about Naomi, "analyzing" her battle with Leon, people picking apart everything she does ( mind you, she is just 15. A 15 year old with anxiety mind you). Leon and the rest of the league honestly do a good job at blocking this noise out, making Naomi's reign as champion as smooth as it possibly can be, but shits tough. Especially for Naomi who's still building her confidence as time goes on. Again, she has a large support system that makes things easier, and eventually she's able to not give a damn....most times. But the first year or so was. Rough. It does not help that she's a Chosen and has to deal with Chosen Shit. ( Though, the wolves also pull in their weight in making sure Naomi is feeling as good as she can be. Fogging up cameras is a signature move of theirs~)

Last thing before I end this off is that the most scrutiny that Kenji has faced was when he proposed the splitting of the league. Which, I mean, fair, that's pretty big and it wasn't surprising to hear people not be a fan of that. But I also think, in smaller doses, Kenji does get compared to Red a lot. I mean. Kid from small town that turned out to be a pokemon battling prodigy and single handedly defeated team rocket? Not hard to compare the two. And at first, it was something that Kenji loved. Red was his hero after all. But then he met Red. And then, after that, he grew up and started to do his own thing, make his own path. The phase " Wow, your just like Red!" started to lose its warmth. He didn't take offense to it! Just that it wasn't like how he was as a kid. And then the phrase turned into " Why can't you be more like Red?", mostly in the fact that Kenji was a very extroverted, energetic kid, while Red is " cool calm and collected". The phrase doesn't come up often, in fact it was pretty rare, but when it does, it hurts. Kenji is already dealing with his own self doubt as is, wanting to live up to what he assumes everyone's expectations of him, as well as ( as mean as this sounds) to be what Red couldn't. So to hear " why can't you be like Red", fucking hurts. Blue can attest to this, it's not fun. It's no fault of Red of course. Kenji knows that Red is just as hurt by the pedestal he's been placed on as Kenji is the one being compared to him. But it hurts. It's like what he's already doing isn't enough. Like he isn't enough. Why can't he be enough?

Something something Danica's name meaning morning star, one of the brightest planets and the complete irony that is with Danica loving the dark and wearing neutral colors with the exception of her red scarf and blue hair. Something about Cyrus, the sun, and Danica, the morning star, that I can't seem to verbalize.

Type Specialist is making me think of my ocs training their pokemon. Danica comes to mind given she has some arguably pretty high risk pokemon? She raised a very prideful Garchomp. Fortunately, from a gible, so she had the time bond and tamper it's pride just a bit, but it's still a prideful, pretty battle hungry Garchomp. I imagine it was the most difficult to train, especially as she kept evolving. And on top of that, this Garchomp naturally had rough skin as an ability. I think the ability itself only really activate when in battle, but it still meant Kade's scales/skin was rougher than usual. Hmmm. I think when meeting Cynthia, she- Cynthia- realized that Danica was raising a Garchomp herself and probably gave her tips onto caring for one, especially one with tougher scales. Maybe even give her a spare grooming kit, so she can groom Kade safely?

Going onto her Froslass, Rin,I think was another pokemon she had difficulty training. Not bc Rin's personality ( though the girl was admittedly a little too lax about her training), but rather the fact that she became a ghost type upon evolution. Again, the fact that Danica raised Rin from a Snorunt helped, but the fact is that Rin had ghost powers now, which made things a bit more dangerous for her and Danica. It took a lot of training to really regulate that power.

Like. Okay in general, I think each of Danica's pokemon had their own challenges in training ( Kit being a grass type and thus needing a lot more care to stay healthy. Fortunately grass types in Sinnoh are a little more susceptible to the cold weather). But Kade and Rin were the ones that came to mind first, so I wanted to talk about them.

Again, bc of how fast paced my au kinda is, it's not too big of a deal,I suppose, but it's still important.

....I think Caitlin and Danica would have this petty rivalry over who's Barry's bff. Like think about it. Both of these girls are people who are generally very stoic and absolutely loves a good battle. Caitlin has a slight arrogance to her that would tip Danica slightly off, but what really kicks things off is Caitlin going " hm, well, I suppose you're worthy of being Barry's friend if you battle like that..." or something like that, and that's what really started their rivalry. I think Barry is completely oblivious to this. He sees Danica and Caitlin glaring at each other and goes " I'm so glad my two best friends are getting along :D!"

I can never ever truly get my thoughts into words but I utterly love Danica's and Cyrus' friendship. Post Platinum arc, post Cyrus gets dragged out of the distortion world. Local 12 year old dragging 28 year old former cult leader to therapy. Obviously, a child shouldn't be responsible for an adults well being, but Danica just has a big heart, okay. And it isn't like Cyrus goes to therapy immediately ( even though he totally should). It's more of him unwillingly becoming Danica's roommate and everyone having to deal with that. Cause the thing is, I don't think a lot of people believe in Cyrus at this point. They don't think he can change. Cyrus doesn't think he can change. And yet this little girl who kicked his ass a year or so prior firmly believes in him and is insistent that he takes care of himself. And in doing that she already wormed her way into Cyrus' totally non existent heart.

Like Danica talks to him about stuff, unprompted, drags him to the kitchen to make poffins together, even allows Kit( her Leafeon) to rest on his lap now and again ( this quickly turned into Their Thing, Danica often finding Kit on Cyrus' lap, both of them snoozing away). Just. OUGH. I have so many thoughts but I can't explain them all. Their friendship means a lot to me okay. Cyrus gets particularly soft around Danica and Johanna THEY MEAN A LOT TO ME.

Had a thought about Danica. Gonna make her a wee bit angstier.

So Giratina has been in contact with Danica since childhood. Not as a Chosen or anything, but as her "imaginary friend". They had no malicious intent....they simply wanted a friend. And friedns they were! Though people gave danica odd looks whenever she talked about her new friend (sans Barry, who was upset that he doesn't get to meet said friend), it didn't really bother her. SHe was as if she was in her own little world, her and giratina( she called Giratina Friend)

So that's tha already established stuff. Orginally, Giratina just stopped visiting Danica one day, and they obly meet again in the distortion world. But here's the thought.

What if Giratina tried to Choose Danica? What if he momentarily gave her powers? And what if she accidentally hurt someone with them? Maybe that's the reason Giratina left; ashamed in his poor choice of actions, not wanting to burden his friend and cause anymore pain ( cause poor Danica was horrified when she accidentally harmed a person. Fortunately it was nothing fatal, but it would definitely scar a child).

Little Danica was heartbroken when Friend left, and between her already "odd" mannerism and now accidentally harming someone, she wasn't seen in the best light by others. Except Barry. Barry was by her side through it all, vowing to protect her any be her best friend forever. Giratina would be glad to know that Danica had an amazing friend in Barry.
