the ugly sweater party | kook friend group
I pairing: platonic kook friend group x female reader, platonic (non-canon) rafe cameron x reader, platonic topper thornton x reader, platonic kelce x reader
I précis: ugly christmas sweater party with your friends!
I word count: 1,125
I content + warnings: mentions of alcohol, mentions of food, cursing, mentions of being drunk, mentions of throwing up
On Figure 8, any holiday was an excuse for all the college kids to come home and throw parties. You’d been to ragers the night before Thanksgiving for God’s Sake. You love Christmas time. You and your friends always end up drinking too much eggnog at a party and regretting it the next morning. But your favorite is when someone throws an ugly sweater party. You and your best friends have gone every year since high school, and this year would be no different.
“Alright, no complaining okay? I don’t want a repeat of Halloween.”
“We didn’t give you that hard of a time.” Rafe whines, scowling.
“We didn’t, you did.” Kelce reminds him, nudging his side.
“Shut up.”
“Anyway,” You cut off their bickering before it can fully start, glaring at the boys. “This year, I picked them out, and—”
“How is that any different, you pick them every year?”
“Because no one else ever offers to pick.” You narrow your eyes. “Remember two years ago when I let Rafe be in charge?” You wonder.
“It wasn’t that—”
“You wrote merry x-mas on a white t-shirt in sharpie.” You cut him off. “That was so fucking stupid.”
“We didn’t even get top three for best sweater.” Kelce frowns, shaking his head in disappointment.
“Anyway,” You start again. “Imagine if I could speak without getting interrupted. I was going to say that Kelce and I picked them together.” Kelce smiles, moving off the couch so he can sit by you.
You pull out two large bags, giggling slightly. “Oh-kay,” You say slowly. “Who wants to see?”
You and Kelce share a look, matching grins on your faces. You nod at Kelce, watching as he hands a folded sweater to Rafe and to Topper.
“Santa’s nice little boy?” Topper splutters—incredulous. You and Kelce burst into laughter, leaning against each other.
“Santa’s naughty little boy?” Rafe says, flipping the sweater around and holding it to his chest.
“You guys can switch if you want,” You manage between laughs. “But Kelce and I thought those would suit you pretty well.”
“Are these baby clothes?” Topper wonders seriously. The writing on the white sweaters does in fact, emulate Christmas onesies that say things like—my first Christmas—Kelce went above and beyond finding the design your own sweater site.
“This sounds so wrong,” Rafe frowns, shaking his head. “That’s fucking messed up.”
Kelce is practically cackling now, laying on the carpet.
“What do yours look like?” Topper wonders, glaring at you.
“Oh!” You giggle, nudging Kelce again. You pull two more white sweaters out, checking the tags before handing the correct one to Kelce.
You unfold them, unveiling the matching sweaters to Rafe and Topper. Yours says Merry in red cursive, Kelce’s says Christmas in green.
“They go together!” You say, tone saccharine. “Just like yours do!”
“What the hell?” Rafe complains. “How is that fair?”
“Think of it as payback for the sharpie incident.” You grin, laughing evilly with Kelce.
“You didn’t want to help pick them out.” Kelce points out. “And we asked. Many times.”
“What was it you said, Top?” You wonder, furrowing your eyebrows. “’I don’t care what they are, just pick them. I don’t have time for this shit.’”
Topper’s face reddens, the sweater falling limply in his lap.
“We wanted to do those big sweaters, like the two-person ones, but a four person.” Kelce says. “But we decided not to, because we knew y’all would hate that.”
“That would have been hilarious, come on.” You grin, looking to Kelce who nods in agreement.
“Thank you?” Rafe says like it’s a question. “Don’t know if I should be saying thank you for something that alludes to me having an inappropriate relationship with santa.”
“Hey, you said it, not us.”
“Come on guys, we’re gonna be late!” You call up the stairs. The four of you decided to pregame at Topper’s house, since his parents were out of town.
It ended up being much less of a pregame and much more of a listen to Rafe whine about the sweater he hadn’t even put on yet. You and Kelce had each taken a shot of peppermint schnapps though! In an attempt at Christmas spirit.
You and Kelce went all out, deciding to match your whole outfits—ripped jeans and Converse—to pair with the sweaters.
Finally, Rafe and Topper trudge down the stairs, Rafe quite literally dragging his feet, his footsteps reverberating on the staircase.
“Oh, look at that!” You coo exaggeratedly, placing a hand on your heart. “My boys, looking so cute!”
Topper gives you a dirty look, Rafe muttering curses under his breath. Kelce snickers at their obvious disdain, even more so when you share a look with him.
“I’m never forgiving you guys for this,” Rafe declares, looking between you and Kelce. “Just so you know.”
“Oh no,” Kelce feigns a pout. “____, he said he’s not gonna forgive us for this.”
“Shut the fuck up,” Rafe groans, effectively cutting off whatever snarky comment you were preparing to make.
“Okay, whatever, no more complaining.” You announce, giving pointed looks to Rafe and Topper. “You’re so grumpy, Rafe, we just need to get some eggnog in you,” You giggle, happy when a smile—albeit a small one—finally makes its way onto his face.
“Alright boys, get together so I can take a picture!” You giggle, whipping your phone out of your pocket.
“Get closer together,” You scold. “Rafael, smile for God’s sake.”
“Please, enough with the mom photos, can we please go now?”
“Someone grab my hand, please!” You whine. “I can’t walk without a hand.”
Rafe sighs, holding his hand out for you to take. Topper has his arm around Kelce, trying to guide him to the car.
“____, come on sweetheart, we need to get you in the car.” Rafe says, tugging your arm gently.
“Want a snack,” You whine again, leaning all of your body weight onto Rafe. “I’m so hungry.”
“If we get into the car, we can go and get something.”
“By the way,” Kelce is slurring his words as he turns to face you and Rafe. “____ and I are picking the sweaters every year. First place in the ugly sweater competition, baby!” He cheers.
You squeal gleefully, pumping a fist in the air.
Topper is mid-pushing Kelce into the car when he jerks away, bee-lining for a nearby bush. He’s emptying his stomach, bent over at the waist.
“Aw, Kelcey,” You coo, rushing over to him. Despite your intent to comfort him, the second you’re close enough, you’re throwing up as well.
“Every fucking year.” Topper sighs, shaking his head.
“Merry Christmas.” Rafe laughs, rubbing your back.

HIDDEN FEELINGS
FRAT!RAFE CAMERON X FEM!READER
Summary: You’ve been single for way to long and ask Rafe to set you up with one of his friends. Will he listen to you or will other feeling be revealed?
A/N: My first post!! English isn't my first language so please let me know of any spelling mistakes or weird grammar!
Word count: 1,6K
Warnings: swearing, kissing, partying, underage drinking
“What?”
“I want you to set me up with one of your friends.”
Shocked was an understatement for Rafe. He's waited all these years just for you to tell him you want one of his friends? The underlying feeling of jealousy made him pull his mouth into a thin line.
“Didn't you just say you hated them?” He looked at you and narrowed his eyes. “No?” You furrowed your eyebrows. He just silently nodded his head. Had you said that? You couldn't recall even if you did. I mean, frats weren’t exactly the type you would go for, yeah the parties were great but other than that majority of them would just want to stick their tongue down some cheerleaders throat. Your thoughts were interrupted by his soft voice. “Yeah.” “Yeah?”
“Yeah I can fix that.” He continued nodding. “Really?!” You threw your arms around his neck and he lunged forward, catching you by the small of your back. You got this weird feeling in your stomach but shook it off. I mean, it had gone a couple of weeks since your crush on the boy had faded away. At least you thought it did? That's what you told yourself. He pulled back and held you by your shoulders. “You owe me.”
You just rolled your eyes. “Yeah, yeah.” He let out a laugh under his breath and gazed down at you. You could see his eyes traveling to your lips. The tension was high. To break the silence you let out a nervous laugh, “maybe I can set you up with one of my friends.” “Huh, yeah we’ll see about that.” He threw his arm around your shoulder and steered you towards the entrance of the school. You threw your arm around his waist.
You pushed through the sweaty bodies of college kids the best you could. The smell of alcohol filling your nose quickly. The loud music booming in you ear. With a low grunt you managed to get out to the backyard. You looked for a familiar face but couldn't find anyone. You took a lap around the giant pool and peered around. Who owned this house? It was huge. Rafe and his other ‘frat bros’ had invited you and your friends to tag along. Of course you agreed, you’d never turn down some free alcohol, plus your night was gonna be boring anyway. Consisting of you probably doing another movie marathon alone.
A hand on your shoulder made you jump around. A grinning Sarah Cameron stood in front of you. “Jeez Sarah what the fuck.” She just laughed. Rafe was your bestfriend and therefore Sarah became one of your close friends. You peered around her and she grabbed your hand dragging you over to a group of people. You greeted your other friends with a hug. JJ whistled at you. You gave him a look of disapproval but soon couldn't hold it in and you both laughed. “You look hot. Who are you trying to impress?” “No one.” He tilted his head at you and narrowed his eyes. “JJ.” You laughed. He threw his hands up and dropped it.
It felt like hours had passed. The liquor in your cup swirled around the edges. You bit at the rim of the cup. Where's Rafe? You had already asked Sarah but her answer didn't do much. You sighed and looked around the backyard. Some people were passed out on the lawn, others were making out against the wall. The shine of the moonlight lit up your face and you rubbed a hand on your head. This music is really giving you a headache.
That's when you saw them. Rafe and some sorority girl. What? You couldn't stop yourself from letting out a scoff. Kie turned to you and got ready to question you. She didn't have to, only followed your gaze. “Is that Rafe?” She asked. “Sure looks like it.” You answered with furrowed eyebrows. Why did you even care? Your feelings had dropped. Right? Still you couldn't deny the bubbling feeling of jealousy in the pit of your stomach. You watched him pull away and snake his arm around to the small of her back. She was gorgeous, you couldn't deny that. Long brown hair, perfect curves, manicured nails, cute face, a shining smile. She had it all.
His gaze met yours and you could see his smile falter. You sucked on your teeth and only gave him an eye roll. Turning towards the group again you catched him making his way over to you.
“Y/n.” Rafe. You thought. You only gave him so much as you whipped your head around. There he stood, behind him the sorority girl. You ignored her for now and turned your focus to him. “What?” You asked. “Can we talk?” Your tongue glided over your teeth and you suggested the two of you go inside. “Without you.” He clarified while glancing at the other girl. Hannah was her name you think. “Oh, yeah of course.” She said and strutted towards another group of frats.
Inside Rafe turned you towards him by your shoulder. “Look…” He started. “Weren't you supposed to hook me up with your friends?” You interrupted him. You were angry. Angry because he ignored you. Angry because he didn't even try. Angry because he went to another girl- “Do I have to play some sort of babysitter or what? Why can't you just do it yourself?” Now it was his turn to be angry. You scoffed. “Oh so now it's my problem?” You raised your eyebrows and crossed your arms. He looked around the room quickly and shook his head. “You seemed pretty content in JJs company.” You opened your mouth to say something but he quickly continued speaking.
“Do I really need to hook you up with someone when you have him?” He gazed down at you with pursed lips. You stared back. JJ? “JJs my friend Rafe.” The answer you got was a grunt. “Yeah right” he whispered under his breath. “Weren't you the one pushing your tongue down some girl's throat just now?” You shot back, your voice falling. “Hannah.” “What?” “Her name’s Hannah.” Fucking Hannah. “Since when do you even care?” He let out. Since forever you thought. A sigh left your mouth. It felt like you were trapped. What were you supposed to say? You felt it get hotter around you if it could even get hotter. The burning sensation in your throat didn't help.
“Y/n?” Your eyes traveled up to his. “Since forever..” You whispered. “What?” He leant in with his ear. “Since forever Rafe.” He only looked at you with a questionable gaze.
“That was supposed to be me. Kissing you.” Your mouth is moving faster than your brain at this moment. His mouth opened and closed but no words came out. You closed your eyes. Great, you just embarrassed yourself.
After a moment he broke the silence. Your eyes shot open. “But what about my friends?” He asked. “Rafe. You don't get it.” You sighed. “So tell me.” He pleaded. You could feel his hand grip yours. Butterflies erupted inside your stomach. It went quiet again and he slightly leaned forward. “Show me.” He whispered. You wasted no time connecting your lips to his. It was a heated kiss filled with passion. You could taste the bitterness of the liquor he had downed before. He sighed into your lips and his hands made their way around your waist. His grip firm but soft on your skin. Your lips moved in sync and you only pulled away for air. He chased your lips once again but you stopped him. Both of your chests heaved up and down and you catched your breath. “Oh you don't understand how long I've wanted to do that.” He smiled. “Really?” You said and let out a breath. He only nodded as a response and pulled you in once again by the small of your back. You let out a laugh before sharing yet another passion filled kiss. Pulling away you bit your lip. “But what about Hannah?” Your smile fading. “I don't care about some random sorority girl. Hannah was a distraction.” “For what?” “You. Y/n I've liked you for an eternity.” You let your head fall forward and land on his chest. “Why didn't you tell me!?” You let out. He stuttered. “ I dont fucking know, I was scared.” He breathed out. Only laughing when he saw you trying to hold it back. He leant forward once again only now connecting your foreheads to each other. His eyelids closing, you doing to same. This was the first real intimate moment between the two of you. Far from the last.
“Come on.” He mumbled and led you outside by your hand. You struggled to keep up with him but soon made your way over to the rest of your friends. Topper was the first to notice. “Hey where were you guys? We were looking for you but gave up.” He said, swallowing his sip of whatever drink he had. Sarah was next to question you. “Yeah. Come on here, sit.” She motioned to a place on the sofa they were sitting on. Her gaze landed on your connected hands. “Oh I see…lovebirds” She half smirked. A small smile broke out on your face.
You dropped Rafes hand, about to take a seat before he swiftly sat down and pulled you with him by your thighs. You landed right on his lap. His hands made their way around your waist and held on tightly. Raising your eyebrows at him he only pecked your lips. Kelce let out a laugh. “About time Rafe.” All he got was a punch to his arm as an answer before the rest of the group laughed along. “Yeah, yeah. I got the girl now.” Rafe said and looked at you lovingly. “And I got the boy now.” You whispered to him before connecting your lips once again.

Absolutely loove you’re writing. By far one of the best oneshots/drabbles I’ve ever read.
My favs that you’ve been writing for so far are rafe and jj, though I’ve seen recently you’ve included John B! Definitely underrated character amongst the obx ffwriters. Was wondering if you’d consider writing for topper, kelce, or even pope.
I could definitely see reader being in a little poly relationship with the kook boys or the pogues, idk just a thought. Obviously do whatever you want, whatever you’re comfortable with this message is mostly just a compliment to you’re writing.
Again, love love love it!
I think you have written a few fics but I just can’t remember which specific one made me follow you lol
Anywayy thanks for reading and for quenching our thirst for these obx characters.
Love, follower xx
this was literally sooo sweet, and such a nice message to kick off the new year !! people seriously underestimate how much kind messages like this motivate writers / just make our day, so thank you so much for being so lovely and taking the time out of your day to compliment me. happy new year angel ! 𐐪𐑂

something, something; the kooks
summary: rafe, topper, and kelce cheers you up after being stood up on a date.
warnings: vaguely based on that one episode from new girl, profanities, violence, sexual innuendos, ending: money in the jar whenever someone makes a douche-y comment. gif credits to @ptersparkers
word count: 1181
“-and are you really sure that you won’t come with us instead?” topper asked for the nth time.
he, rafe, and kelce, were all crammed on your queen-sized bed as they watched you get ready for someone that isn’t them.
as much as you loved your best friends, it was time to put yourself out there.
“c’mon, it’s the annual bonfire, y/n/n. are you really going to miss out on it for that dickwad?” kelce sought, fiddling with the throw pillows on your bed.
“his name is james, and yes, i will.” you replied, focusing on doing your eyeliner.
when you leaned against your chair to admire your work, you caught the eyes of the three of them. “what?”
“ditch him.” rafe said, his voice bored and nonchalant.
you frowned, turning around to face them. “don’t be like that, alright? just- go out, have fun. i really want to go out on this date, but if it all goes wrong, then i’ll be in my room, sobbing my eyes out while i watch a walk to remember again.”
they sighed, exchanging hesitant looks before standing up.
“m’kay, have fun with the dickwad.” kelce snickered, but not before he and topper planted a kiss on both sides of your cheeks.
kelce and topped went out ahead but rafe lingered a bit longer. he pulled you into a side hug and kissed your temple. “just call us if you need anything, yeah?”
“yeah.” you smiled, you walked him out and leaned against the doorframe as they got into the car. “stay safe, you morons!”
“yes, mama bear.”
“don’t call me a moron,”
“we will, don't worry— you look gorgeous, by the way!”
the boys were an hour and a half through the party, not even that drunk yet when they bumped into james and his friend.
“hey, where’s y/n?” rafe abandoned the girl he was talking to, catching kelce and topper’s attention.
“oh, dude, she texted me seven times. like, long ones,” james laughed, pointing his beer at them. “i just wanna hook up.”
topper furrowed his eyebrows, stepping forward. “so is she waiting for you to show up, or did you call her?”
james and his friend exchanged amused looks before snorting. “yeah, that’s what i did. i called her.”
“are you kidding me?” rafe scoffed, his patience growing thinner by each second.
“nah, man,” he chuckled, gulping down more of his beer. “you know how girls are.”
“i don’t actually,” rafe gritted his teeth. “but i do know that they don’t deserve assholes like you.”
and with that, rafe swung his fist towards the guy’s face, making him stumble down from the impact.
kelce and topper grabbed his arms and pulled him away before another fight broke out. “c’mon rafe, y/n needs us.”
you were somehow glad for the loud chatter and clatter echoing throughout the whole restaurant. you played with the free appetizers that the waitress provided for you as you accepted the fact that you got stood up. again.
when the waitress approached you once more, you looked up at her and asked, “do you have anything else that is free but also has bread in it?”
“-because the, the- like, good bread i ate, and the… all that’s left is, like a- it’s like- it’s kind of like a health bread…” you trailed off, blinking away the tears forming in your eyes as you looked down.
“i’m sorry,” she sighed, offering you a sad smile. “we’re gonna have to ask you to give up the table.”
“uhm,” you swallowed the lump in your throat. “can i please stay a little bit longer?”
“we’re here!”
“yup.”
“we’re here, y/n! we’re here,” you snapped your head towards the entrance where rafe, topper, and kelce were running in. “-here for the date.”
“date thing.” topper grinned at the people looking at them.
the waitress gave the four of you a weird look. “you’re all on a date?”
“yeah,” rafe nodded, jutting his bottom lip out. “we’re her, uh, her boyfriends. we are reverse-mormons,”
“one man just isn’t enough for her.” kelce quipped, a small smirk tugging at his lips.
“okay…” she trailed off before walking away to grab more menus.
“hey, y/n, that guy was a dickwad.” kelce pointed out, as he did many times beforehand.
“yeah, he’s a clown.” topper agreed.
“you guys missed the bonfire to come here and see me?” you sniffed, your lips wobbling as you had a difficult time keeping your cries in.
“yeah, we, uh… we care about you.” rafe whispered, threading his fingers through your hair. “we love you, y’know.”
“aww.” you pouted, tears slowly falling down your cheeks.
“aw what is that,” kelce mocked, resting his hands on his hips. “don’t start crying.”
“come on,” topper chuckled. “s’cool,”
“it’s very, very cool.” you let out a teary laugh as you played with the table napkin.
“come on, you crybaby,” rafe sighed, he pursed his lips for a moment when an idea popped into his head. “for i’ve had the time of my life,”
kelce and topper exchanged surprised looks as soon as rafe sung the song that you’ve been singing for the past few days. “what is he doing…?”
“-and i’ve never felt this way before.” he continued, scrunching his nose up as he cringed. “yes it’s true… na na na na na…”
rafe elbowed kelce in his stomach, which made him sing along even though he didn’t know the lyrics. “and it’s something, something, something… there’s beer in my house—“
“it’s the song that makes you really happy,” rafe hummed off-key.
“i’m not participating in this.” topper shook his head, but rafe slapped his chest which made him sing a completely different song. “just remember, you’re the one thing that i can’t get enough of,”
you laughed out loud as the three of them started singing three different songs. you weren’t even sure if they were songs at all.
people started staring as they all sang indistinctly. there were murmurs of complaints when the manager approached your table. “i’m gonna ask you to leave. all of you.”
topper helped you up from your chair and wrapped his arms around you as you all went out of the mingy restaurant, laughing at rafe’s whines about making him sing in front of all those people.
“you were right, y/n,” topper sniffed as the four of you watched jamie and landon on the screen. “this movie’s pretty good.”
you smiled, looking away from the television as you passed the tub of ice cream to kelce. “seriously, thank you guys so much for tonight.”
“listen, y/n, i know you’ve had a really rough go of it,” rafe looked at you as he wrapped his arm around your shoulder. “and i just want you to know that, i mean, for me at least, that no matter what… i would still totally do you.”
“aw, that’s so sweet.” you pouted mockingly, putting a hand to your chest, before pointing to the douche jar. “jar.”
“jar.”
“money in the jar, cameron.”

"You're a sweet little thing," he whispered. Rafe dived his head in her neck, leaving hot, and open mouthed kisses along it, his tongue swirling and sucking on the hot skin. He pulled his head back up, and leaned in. He licked her bottom lip, then sucked it, letting it go.
Rafe untwisted his hand from her hair, and wrapped it around her neck, keeping her in place. "So sweet."

(platonic) kook friend group x female reader
Apple picking
ty<3
“If you do anything to embarrass me, I swear to god, I’m leaving all three of you here.” You threaten, swinging the basket you were given, in your hand.
“Relax mama, we’re fine.” Rafe says smoothly, earning an eye-roll from you. Topper gives you a reassuring nod, that does absolutely nothing to reassure you—especially when they all speed up, running towards a farther away tree.
“Idiots.” You sigh to yourself, speed-walking to keep up.
You make yourself busy, plucking crisp apples from the branches, and quickly filling your basket. The lack of sound makes you worry, so you quickly make your way to another area until you spot your friends.
You sigh, rolling your eyes once again.
Kelce, Rafe, and Topper appear to be in some sort of apple-throwing competition—each one tucked behind a different tree, popping out to hurl apples at one another—before ducking back behind the trunk.
“Hey!” You call, earning all of their attention. “What the fuck?” You hiss as you step closer. “I was gone for five minutes. Someone is going to see y’all, and we’re going to get in trouble.”
“Sorry hun.” Topper says, at least having the decency to look ashamed.
“I wanted to do something cute with the four of us.” You pout, knowing that’ll get to them.
And sure enough, Rafe and Kelce drop the rest of their apples, and hurry on over to you and Topper.
“We’re really sorry.” Kelce ducks his head, eyes locked on his sneakers.
"Yeah sweetheart, I promise I'll be on my best behavior from here on out." Rafe adds.
“S’fine. Can we just go pick some together now? Then we can—“
“Ma’am, we’re going to have to ask you and your friends to leave.”
“Shit.”

| genre: fluff, angst, kook friend group
| warnings: language, mentions of food
| précis: ur besties help u through a breakup :(
| word count: 1,272
You were nestled in your bed, buried beneath a mountain of blankets and your comforter. Clad in Kelce's old lacrosse hoodie, the sleeves stained with the mascara leaking from underneath your eyes.
In typical breakup fashion, you had Sour on repeat, Olivia Rodrigo’s voice blaring into your earbuds.
Other than your mother, no one else knew of your breakup. It had happened less than 12 hours ago, and you wanted to collect yourself before telling anyone else, including your best friends.
Three weeks before you were set to go back to college, and your long-distance boyfriend had texted you, texted you, to inform you he no longer wanted to continue your relationship when you were both back on campus.
So, it's safe you say you're pretty heart broken.
However, you weren't surprised when you hear multiple sets of heavy footsteps on the stairs, right before the door to your room flings open.
"Oh, for fucks sake," You sigh, yanking out your earbuds.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Kelce wonders immediately, popping a hand on his hip.
"Hey guys, come on in. I totally remember inviting you over."
Topper snorts, setting a bag down on your desk before flopping onto the end of your bed. "Since when do we wait for an invitation?"
"Yeah because you guys are rude," You groan, nudging his shoulder with your foot.
Topper grabs your ankle, tugging you down the bed to sit next to him, before slinging an arm over your shoulders.
"Are you okay?" He wonders softly, turning to study your face.
"Hm." You affirm, eyes locked on the ground.
“Hey,” Rafe says softly, crouching on the ground in front of me. “We’re here okay? You don’t have to tell us everything—or anything—but at least tell us if you’re okay.”
“Okay as I can be for getting dumped.” You whisper, hanging your head in embarrassment. You can feel heat rising on your cheeks at your admission, not noticing the look the three boys share with each other.
“He fucking texted me,” You say, tears building in your eyes again. “A text. He couldn’t even call or facetime.”
Topper rubs your back soothingly.
“What an asshole.” Kelce frowns. “I’m so sorry baby.”
“S’fine.” You sniff, using your sleeve to wipe your nose this time.
You notice the bag on your desk and look up curiously. “What’s in the bag?”
Rafe grins, grabbing it before bringing it back to you. “All of your favorite snacks.”
“Brought to you by all your favorite people.” Kelce adds, starting to pull things out when Rafe takes too long.
“Oh, shit wait, is Harry Styles here too?” You wonder, perking your head up.
“Ha. Ha. Very funny.”
“Where’s Ted?” Kelce wonders, looking around your room.
“His name is Teddington dumbass.” Topper rolls his eyes, shaking his head in disproval.
“Ted’s his nickname.” You say. “And he’s in the laundry, I got makeup on him, so I had to wash him.” Kelce looks at you sympathetically before exiting your room, heading towards the laundry room.
Ted—or Teddington—is a big stuffed teddy bear that your best friends got you. In seventh grade, the four of you were supposed to attend the Kildare County fair together—your first year without your parents—but you got grounded and had to stay home while your boys went without you. You practically had to force them, they were planning to sit in your bedroom with you all night.
But a few hours later, they’d tapped on your window, and after you let them in, they revealed the bear, apparently they won it for you in what Kelce described as a “pretty epic” game of ring toss. They chose the name Teddington, which you found unbelievably dumb, but kept it anyway. You cried that night, feeling so grateful for your friendship, but you still deny that part, even to this day.
Kelce returns from the laundry room, a fresh and clean teddy bear in his hands.
“Thank you Kelcey.” He pats your head, before pulling a bag of your favorite chips out.
“Open em up,” You crack a smile, holding a hand out so he can shake the bag into it.
Topper grabs the television remote from your bedside table, turning your tv on before flopping back onto your bed. “Okay bug, what do you wanna watch?” He wonders, flicking through the different streaming sites pulled up on the screen. “The Proposal, 13 Going on 30, Sex and the City…?” He trails off, naming a few of your favorites.
“No, no rom-coms.” You pout, nuzzling into Kelce after he slings his arm around you. “Wanna watch a movie that you guys like, the shitty ones.”
“Rafe loves rom-coms,” Kelce says. “Which ones are you talking about?”
“Fight Club is not shitty,” Topper frowns.
“It is after the tenth time, Top.” You giggle.
The four of you finally agree on some random horror movie on Netflix, and you’re starting to drift off when Kelce gets up to turn the lights off.
“Where’re you going?” You murmur, bolting upright.
“Shit, I didn’t mean to wake you up--”
“You didn’t, I was awake.”
He gives you a look, narrowing his eyes.
“How did you guys even know?” You ask suddenly, prompting Topper to pause the film.
“Know what?” Rafe wonders, before Topper slaps his arm.
“Ow—fuck,” He hisses, closing his mouth after another look from Topper.
“We hadn’t heard from you all day,” Kelce starts. “So, we texted your mom, just to make sure you were okay. And she told us.”
“Dammit,” You curse. “She said she wouldn’t.”
“Don’t blame her,” Rafe says. “We were worried, and she just told us what was going on, it’s okay.”
“You don’t have to be embarrassed though.” Topper says gently. “You know you can tell us anything.”
“I know, I just, I don’t know…” You trail off. “I felt stupid, and I wanted to wait to say anything.”
“You’re not stupid sweetheart,” Rafe sighs, sliding his arm over your shoulders. “He is.”
“It’s fine.” You sigh slowly, feeling your eyes well up again. “Love you guys, a lot.”
“We love you more,” Topper coos, pulling you into a hug.
“Not a competition Top.” You groan, leaning your forehead against his chest. Rafe and Kelce join too, wrapping their arms around you.
“Love you kid.”
Once you settle back in and continue the movie, you start falling asleep again, and roll onto your stomach.
“Gonna kick that kid’s fuckin’ ass,” Kelce mutters, watching the way you burrow into his side. His heart broke when they entered your room and saw how devasted you were, and the other boys make noises of agreement.
“No, you’re not, shut up.” You grumble, turning over.
“If I see him—“
“When will any of you see him?” You ask with a sarcastic laugh. “You gonna fly out, just to kick my ex-boyfriend’s ‘fuckin’ ass’?'”
“Yeah.”
“So, you’ll come to see him, but not me?”
“I, wait no—”
“Just shut up,” You giggle. “All of you looking for trouble—is more likely to end with y’all hurting yourselves.”
“That’s not true!” Rafe pipes up. “Remember Jason from sophomore year, he didn’t talk to you ever after we were done with him.”
“Okay, okay, tough guys.” You acquiesce. “Let’s just go to bed, kay?”
“Yes ma’am.” Kelce chuckles sarcastically.
“Shut up.” You grumble. “Love you guys.” You add quietly, earning smiles from your friends.
And the next morning when your mother comes to wake you for breakfast, she finds you, and the three boys who came to comfort you, all shoved onto your mattress, sleeping peacefully.

You weren’t even sure when the feelings had started. You and Rafe had always been a little flirty with each other. You used to blame it on the fact that he was the newest addition to your friend group, not already used to the sibling-like dynamic that you shared with Topper and Kelce.
Nothing actually happened for years, other than the casual flirting that never went unnoticed by the other boys. It was one night, when the four of you were back home for the summer. You all attended the same university on the mainland, but that didn’t mean you wouldn’t spend every waking second with each other over the summer. Topper was out to dinner with his parents, and Kelce was stuck babysitting his little sister. Rafe had invited all of you over to watch movies in his basement, the massive flat screen and reclining chairs making it the perfect spot for your movie nights.
The tension between the two of you was so heavy you could feel it crackling in the air. You spent a painful thirty minutes watching Jaws, retaining absolutely nothing because all you could focus on was the boy sitting next to you.
And suddenly, movie forgotten, your lips were on Rafe’s as you were climbing over the armrest to straddle his lap.
The two of you had agreed on two things: One—that it wasn’t just a one-time thing and two—that you couldn’t tell Kelce and Topper. You honestly didn’t think they would have a problem with it, but you weren’t ready to face the constant teasing that would surely ensue once you tell them.
Fast forward, you and Rafe had been keeping your relationship a secret for a few months now, a little easier now that you were back on campus and had more spots you could meet and not run into your friends.
Kelce and Topper weren’t stupid though. They had an inkling that something might be going on between the two of you, but they couldn’t prove it. Lingering touches, and gazes when you thought no one was paying attention, had helped to guide them in their suspicions.
“Your door’s locked right?” You whisper, cuddling against your boyfriend.
He nods, pressing a kiss to your forehead. Rafe, Topper, and Kelce shared an apartment, and the boys often barged into each other’s rooms without a second thought, so a locked door was crucial to your not getting caught.
Almost as if you predicted it, a fist bangs on the door, less than a moment later, a loud shout of Rafe’s name reverberating in the room.
“Fuck do you want Top?” Rafe calls, sending you an apologetic smile.
“Kelce and I are bored. I think we’re gonna go to that bar down the street. You wanna come?”
Normally Rafe can never turn down an offer to go to a bar or party, and drink with his friends. But right now, you’re in his bed and he cares way more about that.
“Not tonight man, I think I’m gonna nap, I’m not feeling great.”
“Okay.” Topper responds, heading into the kitchen where Kelce is. “Let’s see what ____’s up to.”
“I already texted her.” Kelce pipes up. “She said she’s busy.”
Topper sighs. “Alright guess it’s just us then.”
Rafe wants to tell Topper and Kelce about your relationship. From day one, he was fine with it being out in the open. He claims that they like you too and they need to know you’re taken, but you don’t want to ruin your friend group dynamics.
“They’re gonna make fun of us!” You whine against his chest, pulling his duvet over your head.
“They already do!” He chuckles, chest rumbling under your head. “And baby, you’re the meanest out of all of us. They’re gonna be too scared to make fun of you.”
“No, I’m not.” You pout, poking his chin.
“Hm, you kinda are.” He hums, straining his neck to kiss the tip of your nose. “Remember when you made Topper cry during basketball?”
“I was twelve, Rafe,” You groan. “And he didn’t catch the ball.”
“And you yelled at him at recess, I know, I remember all of it.” He can’t stop the laughter that tumbles from his lips. “I wouldn’t mess with you mamas.”
“Shut the fuck up,” You pout, shoving at his shoulder.

As soon as Rafe is done with class, he texts you, and the two of you meet at your favorite spot for ice cream. Rafe grabs the corner booth while you go up to order both of your favorites. He’d shoved his wallet in your hand before letting you go up, but it’s at the bottom of your purse now—your card already in your hand.
Once you have both ice cream orders, you walk to the table, a smug smile on your face. Instead of taking the seat across from him, you slide into the booth he’s in, nuzzling up against his side.
“Thank you.” He murmurs, pressing a kiss to the top of your head before starting on his ice cream. You rest your head on his shoulder while he tells you something that happened in his chem lab that day.
Eventually, the bell above the door dings, catching your attention. Save for you and Rafe, it’s been empty, and you’re a little curious.
Familiar voices fill your ears and you’re putting it together, the wide-eyed look on Rafe’s face being the final piece of the puzzle.
Kelce and Topper. Fuck.
“What the fuck?” Kelce mumbles, meeting your gaze.
“Hey guys,” You cough out, waving awkwardly.
“Y’all were hanging out without us?” Topper asks sadly.
“No Top, ya fucking idiot.” Kelce sighs, running his hand over his face. “They’re together. Like dating.”
“Well, I—” You pipe up, in attempt to cover yourself.
Kelce raises an eyebrow. “Am I wrong?”
You drop your head. “No.”
Kelce sighs, dropping into the booth.
“Are you mad?” Rafe wonders.
“No.” Kelce shakes his head. “Y’all are my best friends and I want you to be happy.” He looks at Topper who nods in agreement. “However, I have a couple of ground rules.”
“Rules? Kelce you’re not my dad, you can’t—”
“Hush,” He scolds. “As I was saying, no sex while we’re in the house—”
“Uhh,” Rafe chokes out, cheeks blooming bright red.
“Shut up.” You hiss, elbowing his side lightly.
“Ew, what the fuck?” Topper complains.
“And if Rafe hurts ____, we’re kicking his ass.”
“What?” Rafe exclaims. “You really think I’ll hurt her? We’ve all been friends forever, I’m not gonna—”
“Rafe.” This time it’s Topper who cuts him off. “I don’t give a literal shit that we’re all friends, if you break her heart, we’ll drop you so fast it’ll make your head spin.”
“Jesus.” You mutter under your breath.
“Understand?” Kelce asks.
“Yes.” Rafe answers.
“Yes, what?”
“Yes sir.”
A bout of laughter spills from your lips before you can stop it. “Come on Kelce, that’s enough. Now both of you, get the fuck out of here.”
Topper grins sheepishly, sliding out of the booth, Kelce right behind him.
“Remember what we said.” Kelce says, smiling, despite his serious words. He grabs your cup of ice cream, scooping some into his mouth before he and Topper exit the store.
“Fucking idiots.” You groan, leaning your head back against the seat.
“Hey, at least I don’t have to do this in secret anymore.”
“Do what?”
“C’mere.” And then his lips are on yours.
