Ah, it’s too late to post this on Halloween. But here is a little story about ghosts, and roommates, and roommates who are ghosts.

it must be said that i simply love to watch a character destroy all their relationships in an attempt to get what they think they want only to achieve their goals and be lonelier and more depressed than ever. and to realize they can never go back and are trapped at the top of the hill playing their part. its the dream you never wake up from!!

another thing abt reigen is that he’s a conman who thinks if you don’t provide some kind of useful service to the people who hire you than you don’t deserve respect as a conman. which is an objectively hilarious ethical position for a conman to take.

The (unintentionally) funniest things in the very serious vampire novel Dracula by Bram Stoker, in my most humble personal opinion
Count Dracula, whose only topic of interest is his own glory as a warlord of times past, dressing up as a servant and cooking, setting the table and folding sheets among other housework to fool Jonathan, probably while muttering to himself 'it's okay Vlad you're still cool you're still cool' over and over again
Dracula throwing a fit at Lucy's window while in bat form like 'You shut out Dracula? You shut him out like the mosquito? Oh, vampirism for you! Vampirism for you for all eternity!'
Dracula, once again at a window while in bat form trying to listen to Van Helsing planning his demise, and being fucking shot at by Quincey Morris and having to flee like 'wait what the FUCK was that???'
On the topic of how trigger-happy Morris is; Van Helsing going on about all the traditional lore on how to figh vampires and Morris saying 'how about we just fucking shoot him' 'yes we'll take that into account too, extra credit'
'oh lmao it's that bitch Harker, can't believe he made it out of my cas- shit he's got a knife' *immediately jumps out the window and flees the country*
Mina, fully and acutely aware of evertything relating to Lucy's death, otherwise the most sensible character in the novel: Last night I dreamed about the creature from hell that lives literally next door and I woke up this morning feeling absolutely awful. I'm sure it's nothing worth mentioning tho
Dracula's demise being larlegy in part due to the fact that he spends most of his time dealing with English bureaucracy and leaving his mail lying around. like the lord of darkness himself sitting in an office to buy a ship ticket, being cryptic and edgy while the worker is just like 'yeah whatever here you go, next' is something that actually happens in the novel
#dracula daily#prev tags ->#dracula works on the logic of a 16th century nobleman who expects everyone to crawl before him#meanwhile most people are like 'huh that guy is creepy and weird. anyway'#the original dracula novel is the prime genre shift of 'what if medieval vampires but in modern day' and it SHOWS

i love you female characters who make selfish choices they know will be bad for everyone. i love you female characters who think they're making the right choice but make things worse. i love you female characters who are making the right choice but noone else understands it.

What are Old People Names from other languages?
Like I know in English there aren't many young people named Carl, Howard, Minerva, Agnes, Matilda, Beatrice, Pearl, Violet, Viola, Alvin, Albert, or Earnest (at leat not in Canada) but I've come to the realization that I don't know ANY non-english old people names
Alternatively, YOUNG people names- Blaze, Hunter, Jackon, Savannah, Tanner, Taylor, Mackenzie, Ocean, River, FTeegan, and Zach
And what makes names fall in and out of style???

I think there’s a remarkable way in which the isekai doomed villain aspects of my next life as a villainess and the bisexual harem aspects gel together to create a metaphor for queer childhood. to me the most interesting way to view katerina is as a girl who is convinced from a young age that people around her are eventually going to subject her to a fate beyond her control and she’s going to be cast out, and this colors her entire perception of the world around her.
it feels very gay experience (though ofc not universal) to be like i have to overcorrect for the fact that one day everyone is going to hate me and exile me for something i can’t help through being so kind and helpful to them. i have to heal everyone around me. or i will DIE. they will KILL ME. i need to make myself essential to the people around me because something is inherently wrong with me that only i know about. and then of course she self-conceives what is in large part her earnest desire to help the people around her as like “i am masterminding a dastardly plan to change my fate" (read: feelings of duplicity and monstrousness as a gay child).
i also think there’s a way in which her revelation of her past life’s memories could have given her an uncomfortable or even predatory power over the people around her but it does not. instead she reads very much as a child but like a child with an adult’s sense of responsibility for the other children around her (in a world with horrible real adults)? + mildly related point on the game mechanics aspect, i also like how neatly katerina’s backstory solves for some of her oblivious and quirky tendencies. like of course she doesn’t think her friends are in love with her, she’s worried about them killing her.
anyway, on katarina/maria: it’s also soooo interesting that everyone is in love with her by the time she meets maria and the possibility she is going to be the “villain” who “dies” is 0 but she just doesn’t know it. but she meets her and is like she is so beautiful and charming and cool, that’s why i’m so sure to meet an evil fate. . it’s so on the nose for like, the evil anvil that is going to fall on me which is proof that i’m doomed… is how wonderful and captivating this other girl is! because of course it is, the crux of the issue is gay childhood. [astronaut meme] “wait it was all about gay feelings?” “always has been”

God I'm a sucker for characters who are so utterly loyal to someone that they're completely unhinged. Characters who have no moral compass except their overwhelming devotion to whoever they've chosen to listen to. That's the good shit

“Makima would call you slurs” absolutely brainless take. Makima would tell you she’s got your back and to let her know if anyone’s giving you trouble, then quietly out you to your most homophobic coworkers. She’d make a vicious public example of them right before they crossed a socially acceptable line, filling you with relief but further isolating you. When the whisper campaign forced you out she’d hug you a little too hard at your going-away party and murmur that she wishes you the best. Six months later when your savings are running dry she’d show up at your doorstep and explain that she was just in the area and thought she’d invite her old work buddy out for a drink. She’d be wearing the same white dress shirt even though it’s pouring rain and you’d go along even though your girlfriend is due back in less than an hour. At the izakaya she’d tell you she heard about a new job opportunity that she thinks would be a great fit, as long as you don’t have any other commitments right now. You’d ignore your girlfriend’s texts to listen to her. It’s in a new town. You’d have to move. She needs an answer before the end of the night.

has the suicide squad isekai made a version of Harley/Joker is that I'm kind of vibing with? like so far the joker isn't an abuser in this one. which means they're just super fun clown themed serial killer duo. and he seems to actually be into her. which isn't common. normally he's always just using her. there's never any real attraction. they could change it later but for now this is an interesting dynamic.

something about foreshadowing being more prominent the second time around reading a story but in a way that the meaning is changed forever and you can never view a story the same as you once did before. do you know what i mean.
