Criccieth Castle

🌟You can find this print on my Etsy, link in my bio!🌟 This painting is of Criccieth Castle.

Most castles in North Wales were built by the English as places for the gentry to exist and potentially repress any rebellions from the local people. Criccieth is uniquely both Welsh and English, having been built by the Welsh Princes before being captured by King Edward 1 who altered existing structures and added new elements.

The castle was partially destroyed in the 15th century and now sits as a dramatic ruin against often moody skies. Though I was lucky to go on a day where the weather was kind⛅️

I always sit down to paint flowers thinking I’ve chosen a nice simple composition, and that I’ll just focus on one or two stems and get it done in an hour, no problem. And then as soon as I start painting I remember that flowers have leaves and that those leaves have all sorts of colors and shadows and shapes and that they’re constantly shifting and moving in the breeze and there are, in fact, /Many Problems/. That’s painting I guess~

In spite initial panic, this turned out roughly flower-like - we’ll count that as a win!
