Valentine's Day OC Ship Gushing: Gay Dad Pirates
Still over the moon that y'all happened to prioritize Red Kraken stuff. Hope you all enjoyed the Dancefloor one as well, bcause I know I enjoyed writing it up!
Once again, the gushing will begin after the readmore
Obligatory mention that the details of these two are still a work in progress. In fact, these two aren't nearly as developed as I'd like them to be, but I can give details as to why I like the ship (hehe....pirate ship)
So I realize in my last post I didn't really elaborate what The Red Kraken was ABOUT for those who wanted to know. So in short, the Red Kraken is a story about the eponymously named crew of pirates who want to explore the world. That opportunity is presented to them after a strange mystical wall of fog is lifted from half of the entire world. (Also, they may have been responsible for getting rid of the wall of fog, but that's another story). Samba and Tango are the two founding members of the crew.
(Also there hasn't been much art made that I know of, so you might have to use your imagination for some of these. Specifically for Tango, whose only visual reference was from when he was an NPC in a DnD podcast. Anyway, if you want me to give a detailed description, I'll do so later. Until then, Amanda DID make a Samba that I liked a good bit)
Samba, the captain, lived a relatively privileged and somewhat sheltered lifestyle, but always loved hearing the stories of treacherous pirates, specifically how they would sail the seas in hunt of great treasures. Also, he was a theater kid (which explains a lot of his personality moving forward). Eventually, he would go on to join the military, believing that the resources would allow him to see the world, and possibly expand the capabilities of his empire by discovering new lands and finding new treasures, hoping such an incentive would motivate the military to his side. He quickly found himself to be incorrect, since the military was far more interested in imposing their will upon those outside the empire rather than his adventurous flights of fancy.
[No art for Tango, but he's basically big and muscular, with short spiked black hair and olive colored skin. He has a beautiful tattoo of a shark on his left bicep, and he usually wears a red suit with red dresspants, although the sleeves of his suit are completely ripped off]
Tango, on the other hand, was born into almost the completely opposite circumstances. He was born into near poverty, with his parents dying at a fairly young age. He had joined a crew of pirates shortly afterwards, out of necessity rather than out of choice, feeling that at the very least, the crew would at the very least act as a sort of family. Something which he had yearned for. However, that quickly turned when a raid went awry, and the rest of his crew abandoned him to be captured and interrogated by the military. It took a long time for him to realize that they weren't coming back for him. Even so, he refused to give them any information.
And so these two meet. Samba realizing his dreams of joining the military weren't going to give him the life he had wanted to live, and Tango, having what he believed to be his family completely abandon him. Samba then gets a really stupid idea, and offers to start a new pirate crew with Tango. After stealing a ship and breaking Tango out of prison, the two of them officially form the Red Kraken.
But this is Valentine's Day, not Pirate Day, so we should talk about their relationship. Similarly to how Disco and Tap acted as a foil to one another, Samba and Tango are foils for one another, with their relationships helping to temper one another's extremes. Samba, meant to represent an idealism for what he imagines The Pirate's Life to be (as captain, he constantly speaks in a Pirate Voice, and when he loses both his arm and leg, he's partially excited since he'll be getting a pegleg), and Tango, who has experienced what the reality of a "pirate's life" would be: a group of criminals constantly fearing the law, ready to stab one another in the back at a moment's notice. I believe what drew them together was Samba's ridiculous optimism for keeping up an ideal that a pirate's crew is a family (an ideal he holds resolute, remaining faithful to every member of the crew no matter the cost), and Tango's ability to remain objective and realistic, helping to ground Samba.
They also very much rely on one another for leading the crew of the Red Kraken. While Tango is incredibly experienced, has a breadth of insider knowledge towards other pirate crews, and is incredibly skilled at thinking logically and accounting for details that many would miss, he isn't much for socializing, and finds himself at a terrible disadvantage when working alone, being more comfortable in using his skills in tandem with others. Meanwhile, Samba is INCREDIBLY charistmatic, with his aesthetic of being a pirate captain perfectly inspiring a crew, along with his optimism and drive pushing for the crew to do things no one else thought possible, he also constantly finds himself getting way too over his head, getting lost in his own fantasy.
Throughout their years upon years of falling in love with one another and seeing the beauty in what the other held, they've grown incredibly close as captain and first mate, finding the other the most valuable thing in their lives. Upon inadvertently adopting Waltz after saving her from a burning building, Tango found himself fulfilled in becoming a father, which he had always wished he could become, all while having a family surrounding him. And Samba manages to live out his wish of exploring a new world searching for untold treasures.
I'm really glad they get to do that together.
#red kraken#krakenposting#i barely ever get to talk about these two because i worry theyre so underdeveloped but i still love them so much#at this point the only rk character who is truly underdeveloped is maaaaaaaaaybe jig#oh and dougie#but thats kinda the point with dougie

Imagine: Reuniting With Izzy Hands On The Revenge (And The Crew Finding Out About Your Past)
MASTERLIST | AO3 | KO-FI
Relationship(s): Izzy Hands x gn!reader (implied romantic; possibly platonic)
Warnings: References to (non-real) minor violence and vomiting, swearing. (Let me know if I need to add any)
(A/N: It took me way too long to get around to watching the gay pirate show (in full, at least). I watched the first four episodes ages ago, then spent ages avoiding the show for reasons I don’t really understand. I may or may not have spent a couple of months reading Izzy x reader stuff, which means that I may or may not have developed a fondness for this man prior to me fully watching the show. I had a semi-fleshed-out idea as to the reader and Iz’s backstory, but you can think of your own for this one (I’m trying to cut down on exposition in my reader-insert stuff, especially my imagines and ficlets, which I now realise is an ironic thing to say because of how long this A/N is). Feel free to ask me about said idea, though. [Insert obligatory begging for OFMD requests])
You’d (narrowly) managed to avoid him in Spanish Jackie’z.
Only Lucius noticed that you’d seemingly returned from checking on the hostage, only back away from the bar with wide eyes. He just assumed you were avoiding the conflict between Izzy and Stede (after all, that’s what he was the most focused on).
It wasn’t until Izzy locked eyes with you for the first time that Lucius realised that something was up.
“L/N.” Izzy hesitated.
You wouldn’t have been surprised if only you had picked up on the fact that he was caught off guard. To anyone who didn’t know him like you did, one would have thought he had been expecting you.
You cleared your throat. Your heart hammered with every step he took towards you.
“Alright, Iz?”
Your voice still trembled.
Several confused stares heated up your face. Your eyes darted around to your crewmates until your gaze finally met Izzy’s once again.
“So, how’d you end up with this lot, then?” he sneered. He gestured vaguely to your crewmates.
If they weren’t so awestruck by the presence of Blackbeard and his first mate on board (and somewhat intimidated by them), you were certain they would have protested against the insult beyond muttering amongst themselves. You suspected some of them hadn’t realised they were being insulted.
“You say that like it’s a bad thing.” you argued.
The confidence of your words was somewhat betrayed by the fact you looked a bit like you wanted nothing more than to lean over the side of the ship and empty the contents of your stomach into the ocean, or, at the very least, scurry below deck and quiver in one of the ship’s dark crevices.
A mocking laugh escaped him in the form of a hum and exhale. The corners of his lips almost twitched into a smirk.
“I don’t know about you, but I’d say going from Blackbeard’s crew to sailing with the fancy man who ran his own fucking ship aground’s a bit of a downgrade.”
You ignored Lucius’ incredulous whisper of, “You sailed with Blackbeard?”
The crew’s eyes were as wide as yours had been when you saw Izzy at the Republic of Pirates. It was a fair reaction, you supposed. You hadn’t protested against Black Pete’s tales of his days of sailing with Blackbeard, at least no more than the others had. For all you had revealed about your history and your past crews, the name ‘Blackbeard’ had never rolled off your tongue.
You took in a deep breath. Exhaling, you forced a smile. Your cheeks felt as if Izzy had just ran the blade of his sword along the contours of your face. He faltered in that moment, knitting his brows.
“It’s nice to see you too, Iz.”

Monday's child: An annotated playlist for "Baker boxer teacher grief"
I should give the obligatory warning that my SnowBaz fic “Baker boxer teacher grief” is VERY SAD and therefore, unsurprisingly, these songs are VERY SAD. I think they’re best listened to when you’re wrapped up in a cosy blanket and/or sweater, with a hot drink, cuddled next to someone that you love.
Annotations below are probably at least a little spoilery, so if you haven’t already, why don’t you read the fic that inspired this? Here it is on AO3: Baker boxer teacher grief (Or: The thing that lasts)
“Black Star” - Gillian Welch
This is a cover of a Radiohead song, and in my head, it was playing in the first chapter, during the drive from Watford to Hampshire. The lyrics don’t really relate to this story specifically (I listen to a lot of Radiohead to set the mood, rather than for the lyrics) but I love the aching, wavering way that Gilian Welch sings:
Blame it on the black star
Blame it on the falling sky
Blame it on the satellite
That brings me home
“Seventeen” - Sharon van Etten
“Seventeen” - Sharon van Etten feat. Norah Jones
In an earlier draft of this story, there was a lot more focus on Baz and Mordelia’s relationship, exploring the tension between them, and how they each relate to their father quite differently. That angle got chucked when I decided to tell more of the story from Simon’s POV, but I’m still very fond of the Baz/Mordelia relationship in this story.
I always imagined the original “Seventeen” being the version for Mordelia, especially the building intensity in Sharon van Etten’s Tiny Desk performance. And the version with Sharon & Norah Jones seemed to me more of the Baz version, tinged with nostalgia and fondness, while he thinks of his sister who reminds him so much of himself.
I used to be free
I used to be seventeen
Follow my shadow
Around your corner
I used to be seventeen
Now you're just like me
“Spring and Fall” - Natalie Merchant
Again, a song where I had a very specific version in mind - in this case, the performance in Natalie Merchant’s TED talk “Singing old poems to life,” with the intro on Gerard Manley Hopkins. Manley Hopkins wrote, “It is to explain death to a child, and it deserves a piece of plain-song music.”
This is a song for Swithin up in his treehouse, playing jacks with acorns.
Margaret, are you grieving
Over Goldengrove unleaving?
Leaves, lake the things of man, you
With your fresh thoughts care for, can you?
“Song to the Siren” - This Mortal Coil
I had toyed with the idea of pulling the thread of The Odyssey through more of the story, but I abandoned it in order to reference a lot of other stories instead.
“Song to the Siren” is lovely and haunting and full of longing, and I imagined it as part of the backdrop for the late-night conversation that Simon and Baz have in bed, after the wake.
Did I dream, you dreamed about me?
Were you here when I was full sail?
Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks
For you sing
Touch me not, touch me not
Come back tomorrow
“Undertaker” - Bry Webb
This is the first of three songs which I think of as “the funeral songs.” A fascinating song about death, somewhere between merciless and merciful.
Whether debutante
Or bone shaker
Husband, wife
Or heart breaker
I am known by everyone
I will be standing by
I will be standing by
“Videotape” - Radiohead
The second of the funeral songs. I don’t think I really have to say anything. It’s fucking “Videotape.” This is the version from “From the Basement.”
This is my way of saying goodbye
'Cause I can't do it face to face
I'm talking to you before
No matter what happens now
You shouldn't be afraid
Because I know today has been
The most perfect day I've ever seen
“Company of Friends” - Danny Schmidt
The third of the funeral songs, and a good one to end on (especially if you’re still feeling a bit raw from “Videotape”).
I found out about this song from the podcast Our Plague Year, which I listened to a lot during the pandemic. I like to walk by the river close to my house, and more often than not, I’d wind up in tears while listening to this podcast. But it’s okay, because trees and squirrels and birds don’t judge.
Again, I feel like I don’t actually need to add much commentary to the song itself or how it relates to “Baker boxer teacher grief.” It’s best if you just listen for yourself.
When I die, let them judge me by my company of friends
Let them know me as the footprints that I left upon the sand
Let them laugh for all the laughter
Let them cry for laughter's end
But when I die, let them judge me by my company of friends
If you end up listening to any of these songs, do let me know. <3 Take care.

PLAYING: Breath of Fire 3
So we're getting really close to beating the game. I can not wait till this is over. It's weird to want games to end, but games like this with a clear linear plot can too easily overstay their welcome. Truly, BoF3 doesn't really have enough mythology to warrant 40 hours, but they do their best to stretch it...
SO - we get the sea chart to the legendary mariner. I have no idea how to look at the sea chart, so I looked on the internet. We found the mysterious "section" and there's this maze of navigable waters, but you have about 30 seconds to get to the legendary mariner.
...it just hit me that the sea chart is the mini-map during this section...
This took a few tries. I felt bad for my son, having to watch me fail. I was also getting frustrated, because I didn't want to waste his time. I got to the house with 1 second left, but I wasn't facing the right direction, so we had to start over. This made my son extremely mad. We had to set the game down and discuss feeling frustrated. It seems my own frustration was fueling his. So we talked out our feelings and got on the same page about how to proceed.
Then we got it on the next try!!
Legendary Mariner admits he didn't actually sail across the sea. Forget how he came, actually... He says the only way to get across is to use the Black Ship. I mean...duh. So we ram the Black Ship and begin one of my favorite sections from when I was a kid.
For some reason, I thought the ship was filled with more mini-games and puzzles. Not so much, which is good--so we can keep the story moving. There's an obligatory boss fight and then we reach the other side. Not as mind blowing as I remember, but still a cool idea for a "medieval fantasy" game.
We find some folks working an industrialized dock and they seem really confused by our presence. I don't spend much time here and move on. The characters make a comment about the people not seeming human.
...are they androids?
Next, we find a factory. I'm really annoyed at this point. CAN WE JUST FINISH THE GAME?! We get it, the machines come from here...
We then find a new place with an Antenna. Wonder what that is? Inside is a transporter room Nina, Rei, and Honey used to escape the castle. How interesting...We decide to activate it. The puzzle here was borderline intimidating but it turned out to not be so bad. We get it activated and are auto-zipped back to steel beach.
My son was not happy about this. He wants to move forward, not backward.
A quick recalibration of the antenna using a cool minigame, trying to point away from static signals, and we're back to the other side.
But this time we go to Dragnier. Turns out, this place is filled with The Brood that have surrendered their powers to become human. It was an attempt to hide from the Goddess and Guardians...why they hid on the same side of the sea as the Goddess, I'm not sure. But after a creepy scene of an old man trying to get girls to kiss him in exchange for information, Ryu is granted the ultimate dragon power: Infinity.
The citizens of Dragnier have been expecting Ryu and they believe he will be their savior, and avenge their defeat at the hands of the Goddess. Why they didn't kill the Goddess at full force?...Anyway, Nina is concerned about whether Ryu is a "good" or "bad" dragon. The elder Dragnier laughs. Dragons are neither good or bad. Basically, they're just people. But they're also very powerful and could destroy the world if they chose. The Goddess feared this power...maybe, I don't know...
Next comes the desert part. This part is clever. You have to walk across a desert using the stars for navigation. You also have limited water supply. Walking during the day exhausts more energy, so walk at night. This sequence takes a looong time, and it's easy to mess up. I respected this part, but I didn't want to waste too much time with my son walking.
So I looked up a short cut and set the emulator into fast-forward mode. (Emulators are the best way to play).
On the other side of the desert, there's a boss fight and Nina is overcome with heat exhaustion. So we have to kill our Yakda to help her heal. This is an interesting part because the Yakda is the only way to save yourself from the desert. So you're basically committing to never returning to safety. While BoF3 isn't necessarily a well-told story of deep characters, I'm always impressed with how few punches they pull. The game creates a lot of touch scenarios, with complicated motivations and morality.
Anyway, we find a village, that may feature some racist grammar stylings. They help Nina and the team recover then refer us to the "ruins" of Caer Xhan. There, we find a futuristic city with paved roads, automatic doors, and laser traps. Simple puzzle and we activate an elevator to the Orbital Station Myria.
We're in the Endgame now.
After crossing the ocean, the game's pacing is a little weird. Everywhere you go is a quick stop, and you don't normally return to these locations. Very much unlike the starting side of the game, where you're constantly returning to the same locations over, and over again. It makes the game feel a bit uneven. While I like retracing my foot steps as an adult and seeing how things changed, it was a little too excessive. And now there's a whole half of the world that's never been seen, and we're barely stopping for a breather before moving on.
Really, I think once you cross the ocean, that just needs to be the ending chapter. All this expectation of meeting God and it's just one delay after another. The other side of the sea could have combined several dungeons and story beats (Dock, factory, transporter) -- and then arrive at Dragnier, and finally cross the desert to the ruins.
We'll see what we get done tonight!

No one asked, but I made a little recap of the “Safe again” gif & drawing, if you are interested. I hope it adds some light to the process without destroying the magic, lol.
Before going futher, I must admit that I cannot remember all the details and there were a lot of trials and errors. I made the first sketch at the end of April, continued it a bit in May and left it alone for weeks until finally finishing it in June. Also, the psd file with all the layers is such a mess that it would not help you, so no screen caps about that.
So, this is not a tutorial but more like a recap or the backstory of the thought process and the finished drawing.
Preparations: - watch the best show in the world (Black Sails) - reach episodes 4.01 & 4.02 and weep at the beauty - let the season finale destroy you (and lift you up)
Ingredients:
- an idea, textures, references, time, drawing software, pen tablet
Steps:
Initial idea. Silver surrounded by the light and warmth of his two important people, him radiating golden light and illuminating the others’ features (the other two are relieved after getting him back safe and sound)
- or all three of them as gods, stories, legends, constellations etc.?
- or just Silver's sad dream years later when he is gazing at the stars, figures on the night sky etc...?
- sketch a doodle in a hurry, think about the stars and how to add them quickly to try the initial idea
-> remember the picture serie of noodle soup you took a while ago. Remember how cool "the whirling galaxy" aka “oily broth before adding noodles” looked like in the kettle (I have used or considered using other food textures before, e.g. blueberry-pie, the remains of burned macaroni casserole, foam, tea). Keep your eyes open and collect your own cool textures :D Or use free textures etc.
- edit in photoshop to bring out dots, shapes, whatever (or just skip this part and paint the splatter on the get-go with brushes...lmao). I just like to find surprises with textures, like the randomness or what sort of new things and ideas they may add or provoke. You can do this with any abstract splatter or shape and so on...
- This was the noodle broth and there’s the used area. (The circles and green clumps didn’t look as good as I first thought, so I used the area without them).
Some other examples, not used in this one:
- let it marinate and haunt you for weeks, do other stuff, learn new things, read fanfiction, rewatch earlier episodes, hone your skills, cry
- start working with the idea, look at references (important!), figure out how six hands work?? what's visible, what's in the shadows etc... what doesn’t need to be shown and still have the composition work...
- continue the doodle, add layers, shapes, slowly build the composition, let it alone for a day, a week, a month...
- Look at it with fresh eyes and remember to mirror image once in a while to see any mistakes. Grunt with frustration, re-do things, look more references
I couldn’t quite decide where to put James’ hand, so I kept testing. Madi’s hand was always supposed to be over John’s heart (yeah I know the heart is more in the center, but you get the gist ;) I also wanted James and Madi to have some sort of connection -> in the final piece their pinkies are touching :)
- add another texture layer (I had colour dodge on), move it around to find the best place and see the sparks flying accidentally (this was actually done quite early on but anyway)
-> go WOAH! (ʘ‿ʘ)
- continue drawing, occasionally play with the texture layers, try giffing, listen to Finnish (symphonic / power) metal music, have an epiphany, cry about feelings
- Stop at some point. Let it brew more, do not look at it. Next time you look at it, is it ok? No? Yes? Ok, good. Spent a while concising all the thoughts to a few obligatory sentences to have an explanation, fill the tags with ramblings, post it, go for a run walk, preferably to see the sea. Look at the sunset, listen to seagulls and sigh. Return to read other people crying about their feelings that the drawing evoke. Grin and eat more cheap noodles.
Some random notes:
Flint’s blinking moon was a last minute addition (the tattoo was there, but I thought it would be cool to emphasize it more and it fit the overall theme)
To mirror that, Madi’s shining earring represents the sun (or a bright star)
All three of them have their rings, although it may not be clear
that splotch that flies past them has no special meaning, I just liked it. Not sure if it’s a piece of leek or something in the soup. At some point I considered making it look like a crown or a shooting star or a lantern or something.
Working music ended up being Nightwish’s “Nemo”:
Oh how I wish For soothing rain All I wish is to dream again My loving heart Lost in the dark For hope I'd give my everything
My flower, withered between The pages 2 and 3 The once and forever bloom gone with my sins (ಥ‿ಥ) Walk the dark path ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Sleep with angels (˵ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°˵) Call the past for help (*whispers* get Thomas to end Flint’s war...) Touch me with your love And reveal to me my true name
(and so on..)
“Nemo” is Latin for “nobody, no one”. Silver is “a nobody from nowhere”.
favouritealias also pointed out the BS quote:“There is freedom in the darkness, once someone has illuminated it." and I can’t believe I didn’t realize that 8D
Lastly. Silver can’t quite believe the luck he has (to have these two in his arms again and in overall), Flint’s finally able to sleep peacefully now that he is back and Madi and John cannot stop smiling at each other. Madi inspects John’s little scratches and wounds and he’s happy to have had a bath before they laid down for the night. Flint keeps sniffing his hair. He also made secret unspoken promises with Madi to keep Silver (and each other) safe in the future (pinky promise).
tl;dr: read later then, lol ;) (if interested in the first place)
I’m not very good at putting my thoughts into words, but there you have it. Thank you for reading! ( ˘ ³˘)♥
#i did this draft/post weeks ago but then forgot it#starting with a really shitty doodle takes the edge off#and it helps to just put it on paper and return to it later without forgetting the idea#that's why most of my first bs doodles are well... doodles (or as I sometimes like to think: stage 1)#dundunduu#nowadays I leave the first draft for a while and return to them later#I have also learned shitton of things and gained more confidence#most of it is thanks to black sails and its fandom#so thank you#you have no idea how much i appreciate you all

I been running a long, long time Trying to flee that life But I can't seem to leave it behind Wanna visit the windswept shores of a time before When the moon and the stars were aligned
Sons of Witches. a Huey/Elmer playlist
Listen Here
Tracklist with relevant lyric excerpts + a few explanations under the cut, so if you’re on mobile it’s gonna be long, sorry.
1. We Intertwined. The Hush Sound (Reminiscence about Elmer and Monica from the perspective of older Huey)
Like vines we intertwined / Carelessly growing up and growing old Frantically searching for her / Inside my head she's somewhere
2. Ghosts. Laura Marling (1700s era Huey opening up - in this case let’s pretend ‘ghosts’ refer to his village rather than to past lovers.)
Opened up his little heart / Unlocked the lock that kept it dark / And read a written warning / Saying 'I'm still mourning / Over ghosts that broke my heart before I met you' Lover, please do not fall to your knees / It's not like I believe in everlasting love
3. Feelgood Inc. Gorillaz
You got a new horizon, it's ephemeral style / A melancholy town where we never smile Take it all in on your stride / It is sinking, falling down / Love forever, love is free / Let's turn forever, you and me
4. Which Witch. Florence + the Machine (this is The post-1711 Humer song)
I'm miles away, he's on my mind / I'm getting tired of crawling all the way I'm not beat up by this yet / You can't tell me to regret / Been in the dark since the day we met / Fire, help me to forget While tried and tested, it's mine / And it's my whole heart / Trying to bleach it out / And it's my whole heart / Burned but not buried this time
5. Any Other World. Mika
In any other world / You could tell the difference / And let it all unfurl / Into broken remnants I tried to live alone / But lonely is so lonely, alone / So human as I am / I had to give up my defences So I smiled and tried to mean it / To let myself let go
6. Sound the Bells. Dessa (post-Monica’s death feels if you want some)
Looks like our writing on the wall / Is lorem ipsum after all / A higher tide will wash it all / Wash it all away Go lift your sails up / For one last swell / Go lift yourselves up / To sound the bells
7. Unsafe Safe. The Hush Sound
No you won't disarm my heart / The last gift you'll ever get from me / Is the combination or the key
8. Sick of Losing Soulmates. Dodie Clark (this whole song tbh)
What a strange being you are, God knows where I would be / If you hadn't found me, sitting all alone in the dark Watch how a cold broken teen / Will desperately lean on a superglued human of proof 'Cause I'm sick of losing soulmates, so where do we begin / I can finally see, you're as fucked up as me / So how do we win?
9. Mona Lisa (When the World Comes Down). All American Rejects
Here's another pity / And there's another chance / Try to learn a lesson / But you can't. If we can burn a city / In futures and in past / Without a change our lives will never last.
10. Every Time You Go. Ellie Goulding
And it starts with forever / And it ends with a touch / And I know that you're clever / And I don't ask for much.
11. No Light, No Light. Florence + the Machine
A revelation in the light of day / You can't choose what stays and what fades away And would you need me / If I told you what I've become? / 'Cause it's so easy to say it to a crowd / But it's so hard, my love / To say it to you out loud
12. The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot. Brand New (SOME ELMER PERSPECTIVE)
If it makes you less sad, I will die by your hand / Hope you find out what you are; already know what I am / And if it makes you less sad, we'll start talking again / You can tell me how vile I already know that I am It'll be a brand new day in a life that you hate
13. Buy the Stars. Marina and the Diamonds
You bought a star in the sky tonight / Because your life is dark and it needs some light / You named it after me, but I’m not yours to keep You bought a star in the sky tonight / And in your man-made dark / The light inside you died
14. Make You Better. The Decemberists (prime “codependent assholes” Humer)
And when you bend backwards / I wanted you, I needed you / To make me better But we're not so starry-eyed anymore / Like the perfect paramour you were in your letters / And won't it all just come around to make you / Let it all unbreak you to the day you met her And all I wanted was a sliver to call mine / And all I wanted was a shimmer in your shine / To make me bright
15. Two Birds. Regina Spektor
Two birds of a feather / Say that they're always / Gonna stay together / But one's never goin' to / Let go of that wire / He says that he will / But he's just a liar
16. Laughter Lines. Bastille (This Is Some 1711 Farewell Shit)
I'll see you in the future when we're older / And we are full of stories to be told / Cross my heart and hope to die / I'll see you with your laughter lines
17. Dear. Maria Mena (Farwell pt.2)
I thought I’d seen it all when you first walked in / But you shut me up / And challenged every wrong perception I’ve had of myself / And you haven’t ever stopped.
18. I Will Be Back One Day. Lord Huron (pt.3)
You made me swear I'd never forget / I made a vow I'd see you again / I will be back one day and I'll find you
19. From Eden. Hozier
There's something tragic about you / Something so magic about you / Don't you agree? You're familiar like my mirror years ago / Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on its sword / Innocence died screaming, honey, ask me I should know / I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door
20. Solitaire. Marina and the Diamonds
Hard like a rock, cold like stone / White like a diamond, black like coal / Cut like a jewel, yeah I repair myself / When you're not there And all the other jewels around me / They astounded me at first / I covered up my heart in boundaries / And all the fakes they called me cursed
21. Stardust. Mika
I could be staring at somebody new / But stuck in my head is a picture of you / You are the thunder, I was the rain / I wanna know if I'll see you again
22. You Hurt the Ones You Love (I Don’t Believe That). Maria Mena (On the subject of “I’ll mercilessly experiment on everyone except Elmer”)
How can you expect more of me? / I come from chaos / Brought up in tragedy But I don’t believe that / I don’t believe that / You hurt the ones you love
23. Stall Me. Panic! at the Disco
I had a rosy dream / You gave up on you / And I gave up on me / Well, love came along and said, “Leave them be.” Hold on death, the moon / The star’s a sliver of you
24. I Found. Amber Run (I think this song was maybe literally written about Huey and Elmer)
And I'll use you as a focal point / So I don't lose sight of what I want / And I've moved further than I thought I could / But I missed you more than I thought I would
25. Should Have Known Better. Sufjan Stevens
I should have wrote a letter / And grieve what I happen to grieve / My black shroud / I never trust my feelings / I waited for the remedy
26. King. Lauren Aquilina
There's method in my madness / There's no logic in your sadness / You don't gain a single thing from misery / Take it from me
27. Drops of Jupiter. Train (obligatory ‘estranged friends’ song)
Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star / One without a permanent scar? / And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?
28. Old Stone. Laura Marling
Old stone / Ten thousand years and you're still on your own / Don't you love / Don't you love me that way? And if you swear that you're alright / I'm not gonna try and change your mind.
29. Skin and Bones. Motion City Soundtrack
What if there's nothing more to me? / I'm just skin and bones. / There's no mystery. / What if you're just an empty shell? / All your spare parts were used up by someone else.
30. Hardest of Hearts. Florence + the Machine
There is love in your body but you can't get it out / It gets stuck in your head, won't come out of your mouth / Sticks to your tongue and shows on your face / That the sweetest of words have the bitterest taste
31. New Perspective. Panic! at the Disco (Elmer ‘let’s destroy the world together and make a happier one’ C. Albatross)
I wanna live a life from a new perspective / You come along because I love your face / And I'll admire your expensive taste / And who cares divine intervention / I wanna be praised from a new perspective It's not fair, just let me perfect it / Don't wanna live a life that was comprehensive / 'Cause seeing clear would be a bad idea
32. Mercy of the Fallen. Dar Williams (hmmmm look at all that star imagery. this is so Huey’s perspective on Elmer)
Oh my fair North Star / I have held to you so dearly / I have asked you to steer me / To one cloud scattered night And the mercy of the fallen / Who say, hey, it's not my place to know what's right There's the weak and the strong / And the many stars that guide us / We have some of them inside us
#they look happy on that cover image but this isn't actually a super happy playlist#baccano!#huey laforet#elmer c. albatross#a couple of these were on my mask maker playlist#but that playlist is shot now#so that doesn't really matter#;music

TWWS: Info Dump
Yes, I know, it’s been ages, hence the quote dump. Also, some new stuff/updates:
I was flipping through my old D&D stuff and it turns out one of my favourite quotes is incorrect (I’d suspected as much for some time). So that’s been fixed in this one.
The next update is going to be a “best of D&D.” I want to try and set up a voting system so people can vote for their favourites and then narrow them all down to The Ultimate Quote.
Certain quotes have links on them for reference. Hopefully they show up well enough.
Some lines in quotes are reactions/facial expressions. Fun with emoticons!
TWWS now has awards! See below:
TWWS MVP AWARD:
This entry’s MVP award goes to MR for his constant D&D witticisms! Congratulations, M!
Each entry will feature a new MVP. The choosing is based on quote quality and/or frequency. In M’s case, it’s both. People can be MVPs more than once, but not two entries in a row.
Anyway, on with the show!
Overheard at Random
Book recommendation: KCB: "Mafia elves." KH: "...SOLD!"

Tavern woes: (Player or DM?): "When I say 'microbrew' I mean I charge you double and give you less beer."
Pluralisation issues: Probably KH: "Wouldn't it be orifi [instead of orifices]?"
Going overboard with the somatic component: (Player or DM?): "The Arcane Macarena."
Almost certainly about a holy sword: (Player or DM?): "She's swinging around a flashlight for Jesus."
No idea what it's from, but I think I'll use it as a slogan: Player: "I am the terror that quacks in the night."
Fourth Ed Goodberry equivalent...I hope: (Player or DM?): "You're up, you're alive, somebody shoved nuts in your mouth..."
Probably dealing with a were-rat: Almost certainly RJ: "Regener-rat!"

Better without context: MGW: "When you're that big, you can explode as much as you want."
Adventures with the Polymorph spell: AS: "What's the AC [armor class] of a puppy?"
Horrific and chaotic evil regarding aforementioned puppy (which, to be fair, was originally a fire giant): AS (IC): "Don't worry, we can find a bag of holding and a river." MR (IC): "...There is a line, [character]." (gestures one way) "There is the line," (gestures way past it) "there is you."
Be careful who's listening: KH: "She's the pervy character; she scares everybody." (notices preteen with shocked expression) "You didn't hear any of that."
About the pervy paladin having a "moral" conversation: KH: "She's 'good cop'ping him instead of copping a feel?" SW: "She's good copping him instead of getting a good cop. There you go."

Tactical thinking: MR: "We may need to light his mansion on fire to cover our tracks."
Wizarding limits: JS: "You may not polymorph your zombies into t-rexes."

Activating the mysterious device: BC (IC): "We did it! I wonder what we did?"
Creative swearing: JS (IC): "By Baphomet's giant bull cock!"
Alternative to "cheese" during a picture take: JS: "Everyone say 'Jesus Christ, thank God I'm alive!'" We all said it with big picture smiles.
Ultimate cringe: KH: "My mom doesn't have a nerd bone in her body." MR: "She met your dad..."
Business as usual: KH: "This seems like a bad idea, but go ahead."
Bone club + bags of loot = asking for trouble: JB: "I hang the sacks off my bone."
The loot bags again: JB: "I thought I saw it fly out of my sack." MR: "You should have a healer look at that."
Overheard During A Crazy-Ass Night of D&D

About aforementioned druid: AS: "Here, I'll ride you now."
That damned club yet again: AS: "He can smash the Vonindod!" SW: "More like the Bone-indod."
I give up: JB: "...And I wanna bone the hell out of it."

About the war cleric and flying bear: JB: "If they're riding each other in the air, are they part of the mile high club?"
As is per usual: MR: "We may have once again survived this by the skin of bullshit."
The only proper reaction when large objects swing: in this case, a gargantuan golem head: KH: "I came in like a Voooooonindooooooood!"
About 5e drow society: MR: "It's now more of an egalitarian dickbaggery."
When web-casting spiders give gifts: KC: "See? I even gift-wrapped him for you."
