anbu tattoos remain one of my favorite things in naruto purely because they’re like a sign of ownership. anbu ninja are tools moreso than than the normal shinobi of their village. so much so that the village marks them with a signature that everyone recognizes. and even when that anbu—that tool—is allowed to rest, manages to leave anbu ranks, or dies, they remain branded by the village that owns them. they don’t truly escape, they can always be called on again because a tool does not have feelings, it does not have choices, it’s only made to be utilized by those who know how to wield it.
anyway. anbu is so fucked up and minato…i love minato but the illusion that he’s a pure little guy who’s a wife guy and a little shy nerd is crazy. he saw kakashi, someone he’s seen grow up, someone he’s guided and taught, some he’s supposed to care for. and he thought, ah yes, i need to keep you close to me. how best to do it? perfect! you are now forever marked as an asset to me and the village! and he does it with what he assumes to be love in his heart.
and i’m not saying this is a good or a bad thing, the morality of minato’s choices within the context of the story is nothing entirely out of the ordinary, but the way in which he’s portrayed, how we see him and his demeanor… it’s all very much a sweet facade to mask what’s hidden underneath. he’s twisted and calculated and ugh, i love him. because he genuinely thinks he’s doing the best thing he can by kakashi and also by the village. kakashi is talented. he has a sharingan and he’s vulnerable. of course minato wants to help but he also sees an opportunity and he strikes. now they have kakashi of the sharingan in their highest ranks, and he won’t ever be able to escape the duty instilled in him. not unless he becomes a nukenin but everyone knows by that point that kakashi is so indoctrinated, the thought of leaving never crosses his mind.
and then minato dies. and kakashi is still a tool. his feelings should not affect his use. but they do. and for the first time…
kakashi of the sharingan, anbu hound, thinks maybe… leaving the village might be a good idea. if not to get away from everything. he can’t be a good tool if he’s rusty and broken. he can fix himself, he can he can. he doesn’t want to keep breaking over and over again. it hurts it hurts it hurts and the village never puts him back together the right way and for once he just wants to feel whole.
so when kakashi disappears, it’s quiet. it’s full of guilt. ashy tongue, scratchy throat, tears in his eye, and aches in his joints. but he leaves because he needs to be whole to be useful again. but it hurts. it’s not right. he’s not supposed to feel this way. he’s a tool he’s a tool he’s a tool. a weapon. an extension of the village’s wide reach. he almost can’t bear it. he throws up bile all night, on the verge of returning and getting on his knees and begging for forgiveness. he didn’t mean it, he’s sorry he just wants to be better. to feel better.
he doesn’t return that night if only because he can’t make himself get up. his body weak and feverish. he’ll go back the next day.
but he doesnt. he feels better the morning after. only a little bit but it’s enough. maybe he can take care of himself. he can mend his wounds, tighten the loose screws, clean off the rust and dirt. he can do it.
and for every day he stays away, he feels better. more whole. he’s still a shinobi. he does odd jobs when he can but mostly, he takes to helping out villages in need. he likes to help out on different farms, it feels right to him, like something in his muscle memory. he’ll also help with construction if needed, anything that uses his hands in a thoughtful, meaningful manner is good. it makes him feel good.
he likes being a shinobi, he thinks. it doesn’t feel quite right when he says that anymore. but he loves the way it feels when he builds something instead of destroying it. when he uses chakra to make the kids in all the villages he visits eyes light up with joy and wonder. he loves using katon for fires that create. he loves it he loves it he loves it.
it takes time to learn what he’s feeling, and the ever remaining guilt and shame linger in his chest when he remembers that’s he’s supposed to just be a tool and he has to return back to his wielder at some point. but for a long time, years even, kakashi lets himself be something else. something that feels close to human and he thinks he can put off going home a little longer.

Sakumo being a super popular borderline sex symbol in his era will never stop being my favorite hc, I need to see more of it
All the people his age and younger had a crush on him. It was just a Thing(tm) where 9 times out of 10, a Konoha shinobi's first crush was probably Sakumo. Even other villages young shinobi hung up his bingo book picture above their bunk and dreamed of both killing him, being killed by him (in a hot way), having a battlefield fling with him, and more. There was blackmarket fanfiction. He was incredibly popular among civilians all over fire country. Some popular romance novels had love interests very blatantly based off him.
Even before they were on a team together, Obito and Rin both had a silly kid crush on Kakashi's dad (Obito more than Rin) and he was aware of it. This did not help make him like them any more. (By the time hearing smthn positive ab his dad would have made Kakashi softer, they'd both gotten better at hiding the crush, so to Kakashi it looked like they'd gotten over Sakumo.) Even Minato had a bit of a thing for him, not really but like— strong, popular, feard and very friendly ninja who is now paying him some attention (bc hes his kids teacher) he's not immune. Kushina understands, she is also not immune. (Kakashi is going to throw a fucking fit)
Even after his failed mission, when his reputation crashes and burns within the village, he still can't completely shake his admirers— they possibly just get more disrespectful ab the attraction when it mixes with the hate. (Which tbh could make for an interesting discussion all on its own)
Kakashi is haunted by his father's insane popularity for decades after his death. He does his very best to ignore the lingering evidence of people being insane ab his father.
One day he realizes one of his favorite romance novels has a romance interest based off Sakumo and has a break down ab it and can never read the series again.
When raiding an old abandoned enemy camp w Team Ro, he finds an old, autographed photo of his dad covered in lipstick marks in the communal bathroom. He chooses to ignore it but it's quickly spotted by his teammates, who do not know who Sakumk is, and v quickly begin to remark on the poster, who this mysterious Konoha nin is, and ahaha damn he is kinda good looking, huh? (Kakashi wants to DIE)
Shisui ends up taking the poster back to Konoha with them and hangs it up in the ANBU communal quarters where it is VERY quickly recognized. And also some of the people in that room recognize it so quick bc they also used to own a similar poster. (Kakashi wants to DIE someone PLEASE kill him now)
Its only when he's given team 7 that he finally thinks he's escaped the legacy of his father as Konoha's Most Sexiest Shinobi. Only for Naruto, when being trained by Jiriyah, to find his drafts for Icha Icha very clearly inspired by his dad. Which he can never publish for multiple reasons (lingering respect for Sakumo. Also for Kakashi, who is his biggest fan and would probably never look at him again.)
Naruto somehow accidentally brings this up with Kakashi who like. Has war flashbacks and immediatley stands up and walks away as Jiryah scrambles to try to explain himself and Tsunade looks on in scorn (she will approach him later to carefully ask for the drafts while trying to seem like she's not really asking for them bc she's too proud to admit it)
Naruto and Sakura discover Kakashi-sensei's dad was a sex symbol. I don't even know how they'd react but like. Oh my god. Oh my god you guys.
Funniest option would be they accidentally revive his popularity a little bit by being so loud ab it they like, remind people ab him. + introduce another generation to the idea of him
Kakashi is crouched on the floor with his face in his hands. When will he be freed from this hell.
Sasuke does not escape tho, he goes to sound and finds a picture of Sensei's dad in Orochimaru's office (???????)
This is such a shitty sketch but the vision:
Tumblr media
Itachi, who learned who Sakumo was from that poster thing, goes on to find a photo of him in ""Madara's"" belongings and gets super weirded out but ultimately doesn't. Super care. But also. Like. What. What.
After Itachi finds the photo, which Obito genuinley forgot he fucking had and keeps in part just bc its like one of the only belongings that remained from his Konoha days, he shoves it somewhere in Kamui to forget about.
But then in the Obito vs Kakashi Kamui fight, it fucking flutters down in the middle of the fight and Obito fucking dies of humiliation as Kakashi realizes he will truly Never Escape and that this reality is his own personal hell
Uhh endgame Kakashi becomes Hokage and accidentally retreads his father's path in becoming the new Konoha Sexy Man. Which simultaneously crushes him (he will never escape) and fills him with delight (he will now be able to impart the pain of having your father figure be lusted after by all ur friends and acquaintances onto his students)

(incomplete) Backstory  (will be updated...)
Naomi Senju is the only daughter of Lady Tsunade and The Toad Sage Jiraiya— a result of a one-night stand between the two legendary sannins who shared a complex relationship. She was raised by her mother, unaware of who her father was until she was 4 years old due to her mother’s wariness on Jiraiya’s stance on fatherhood or his ability to commit to such a life. But he adored his daughter once finding out about her, despite still being gone most of the time to ‘research’ for his novels or on actual missions. When he would visit the village, he’d spend days with both his daughter and Tsunade. Bonding with both of them and even training Naomi little by little— and she was a little prodigy. Her chakra control and output being her strong suit even when just enrolling in the academy– which she did early at just age 4.
As Naomi aged, her mother’s gambling addiction grew ‘worse’ and she too was often gone— Leaving a young Naomi to become self-sufficient early on. She studied on her own, and with the sensei’s from the academy more often than she’d do anything else. However, her years in the ninja academy were vital for her— making a select few friendships that would last a lifetime with her fellow classmates. The young Senju struggled with making friends, though mostly due to how hot-headed she came off at that age. Not tolerating bullying around her, and not hesitating to fight others that tried to push her too far. She would have gotten in trouble if it wasn’t for how the adults seemed to favor her, be it for her young talent or sannin parentage.
The competitive prodigy she was, once Naomi heard wind of her friend Kakashi taking the graduation exam early, she couldn’t bear falling behind. Frustrated, the young girl stormed off in a fury without thinking— not paying attention to if anyone was watching her or where she was going. She found herself lost in the forest outside of the village before several large, ferocious animals approached her. Snarling and sniffing at her before relaxing, rubbing against her extended hand for them to smell. It was confusing and odd, both for Naomi and Orochimaru who watched from a distance. The scene before the sannin taught him not to move any closer, expecting the animals to be sensitive to who could get to whatever they were guarding. But for some reason, Naomi was allowed— in fact, one of the oversized hounds began to lead her further into the woods. It was in this forest she’d find the Senju Clan’s hideout for the first time, reading a small inscription that guided her on entry before making her way inside. Curiously and anxiously looking around before spotting scroll after scroll, and book after book. She stayed in the hidden temple for hours, reading and attempting to replicate what she’d learned. When she finally left the building, Naomi knew she had learned something that would for sure convince the academy to allow her to graduate early too.
When she returned to the village, being guided out of the thick of the forest by the oversized puppies(in her eyes), Naomi went straight to her sensei and insisted he’d watch her perform a jutsu for graduation. Once given permission, she led the teachers outdoors and began to form hand signs in quick succession before a beam of wood protruded from the palm of her hand. Extending towards a tree only 3 yards away from the young girl, before falling onto the ground. With an annoyed huff, she stomped and released the jutsu- allowing the wood to fall from her hand before she crossed her arms over her chest in a pout as she complained she didn’t do it correctly. Despite this little tantrum for not being ‘perfect,’ both the teachers and Orochimaru in the distance were astonished to see the young girl performing wood-style release even if unpolished. She was instantly granted the right to graduate alongside Kakashi. Although neither of them would be placed on teams of 3 until later, they instead did small solo assignments within the village until the rest of their class graduated.
It was due to her unexpected ability to hone wood-style jutsu that Orochimaru would take an initial interest in her- her potential rather, especially considering the experiments he was actively working on at the time in secret. He’d start to come by more often, offering her guidance in her training until she would eventually be placed on a team of 3 alongside her friend Anko under the sannin’s tutelage. Like Anko, Orochimaru would bring Naomi to his laboratory and teach her. Both the young girls looked up to him, and Naomi even felt pride at how well she retained information or would actually assist in his work- even if she didn’t understand what was going on with it, or any of the real details. Years would pass of Naomi growing close to her sensei, attached to both him and the lab itself– almost seeing it as a safe place to do and say as she pleases. And yet, it was one fateful day when Orochimaru would bring Naomi to his lab that would change her life, and how she’d view those ‘happy’ memories of training with him for years to come. The day he would place the curse mark on her before doing the same to Anko days later, the original version of it— with Hashirama cells, curious to see how she’d react compared to the Senju children like Tenzo he was experimenting on. It was painful, confusing, and horrifying for the young girl— but she survived, and that was a positive. Soon after both she and Anko return to the village, the third coincidentally finds out about Orochimaru’s experiments on the different children and humans. Leading the girl’s sensei to abandon both them and the village altogether.
Following Orochimaru’s disappearance, Naomi struggled to manage her curse mark while still training for the chunin exams– Seeing as when Orochimaru was still both her and Anko’s sensei he recommended the team for promotion. All three of his previous students would pass the exams and become chunin.
For 4 years, Naomi went on missions with other chunin or assisted Jonin on any assignments she could get in between her solo training– trying to make up for the loss of a teacher on her own. Although, she finally got some solid one-on-one training with her father, Jiraiya, in this period of ‘peace.’ He’d finally teach her about his hair manipulation technique or more specifically the Needle Jizō technique.
When the nine tails attacked, Naomi was 14. Despite all she’d seen and gone through up to this point, the destruction left on her home by the nine-tails was unlike anything she’d ever seen before. The horrors she saw from the attack caused her to put her studies and training into overdrive as if she wasn’t already overworking herself. In just two years after the nine-tails attack, Naomi had successfully passed the exam and additional requirements to be promoted to Jonin at age 16.  (I will make posts with art of her I get commissioned over time to describe and talk about her life during the series !! and potentially write more about her as a whole.)

Why Naruto as a manga could never reach its full potential
currently thinking of what other Naruto meta-related posts to do (I have like two posts in works that I've been ignoring for weeks at this point + a few other ideas, but feeling too lazy at the moment)
so I've actually decided to talk about the actual meta meta of Naruto and that is how it was produced as a manga and why we must keep these circumstances in mind when we begin analysing the plot of Naruto
To start off, I find it really bizarre how almost no one is aware or at least acknowledges the realities in which Naruto was written. This is from my own experience, at least, maybe people keep this in mind and simply don't point it out in their analyses, which is okay, but it is still really weird when Kishimoto's writing is treated as some sort of absolute "set in stone" thing with rigid power system, lore and character abilities. And while this is certainly applicable to some authors, Kishimoto is simply not one of them and you know it.
Who is going to win this fight? Whoever Kishimoto wants to, because he needs the narrative to move in a certain direction. How will these characters interact? How Kishimoto wants them to to move the plot, or outright won't if he doesn't want to (I'd even go and say Team 7 would be the most consitent in terms of charatarization, but this comes at the cost of EVERYONE and EVERYTHING in the plot bending to fit their actions/decisions/ideas/arcs, especially by the later parts of manga). Which ability is the stronger one? Whichever Kishimoto chooses. He might pull a new one out of his ass if he wants to! Even if it contradicts the previously established lore! Even if the characters now turn out to be assholes/psychopaths/dumbasses for not using this or that ability in the earlier events!
You get the idea. Kishimoto is an incredible artist, that can not be argued, but as a writer he certainly does not deserve the reverence that I see some people show him. When he has the time and puts in the effort, Naruto is great, but when he doesn't... well, 95% of what we can see in the last 100 chapters speaks for itself. A hot steaming garbage of loosely connected scenes that are cool in a vacuum, but with close to zero proper set up just fall flat on their face (hi, Obito's ENTIRE CHARACTER ARC🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗)
But this post is not to bash on Kishimoto (honestly I do it enough in my other posts and will continue doing so...), but rather to put out all the things that I believe hold back Naruto from being a consistently great manga.
Circumstance number 1: the time
This is about how long it takes to write a manga like Naruto. Naruto was released in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1999 to 2014.
15 years. Kishimoto spent actual 15 years to finish this story. And while some things might be planned in advance, the process of writing, especially something that involves as many characters as Naruto does, does not work like "okay, I've got the plan, and I'm gonna finish it all exactly as I envisioned in the beginning". No, things change, people change, author changes, readers change, etc, etc. This is why you can twist yourself into a pretzel, but you still won't manage to find a good reason why your GOAT didn't use his broken ability introduced in, like, chapter 500s, if they theoretically should already have it in 200s - the answer is simple, and Kishimoto just did not plan for it. He was doing it for the cool moment/dramatic reveal, etc etc. He did not care about how it would make the events look in retrospect, he was too busy working on the current thing.
The time also has an opposite problem: while the readers have a lot of time to analyse and remember stuff about their favorite characters, the author (and we can even include Kishimoto's assitants and editors in this definition, editors in Shonen Jump have a pretty big part to play and I remember somewhere Kishimoto stating that he did discuss the plot plans with his team) has to juggle everything by himself, which is why certain interactions are forgotten/characters stagnate/abilities don't work the way they did, so on and so forth. This issue could have been avoided if not for another circumstance, but this is gonna be discussed later.
Finally, another factor I believe that might have been in play when we look at Naruto and where it ended up at is Kishimoto getting bored with the original concept and gaining a newer, "cooler" one in his mind. I'm talking about ninja alien bullshit, of course, the one that was partically never mentioned until the last two years of Naruto's serialization rolled around, which is... yeah, chapters 600s🤗
There's a number of factors why I think Kishimoto might have truly gotten this idea into his head that mixing ninjas, aliens and whatever other sci-fi bullshit he could come up with was a good idea: the first one being what we can actually see in the manga. Kaguya is mentioned (not appears, MENTIONED) for the first time in fucking chapter 646. If Kishimoto's schedule was not that different from the rest of Shonen Jump's, that means that the final bad guy of our 15 year long manga was introduced ABOUT A YEAR before the finale. Her appearance is even later, so that would be what? Some months before the ending? Obviously, any fucking sensible editor would look at this and go "this is dogshit, don't shove it into the manga, keep to the characters you already have", but either Kishimoto's editor at the time was a complete idiot, or Kishimoto was really insistent about adding aliens into the plot and the editor was a pushover who couldn't say no due to Kishimoto's status as a seasoned mangaka, or the editor simply didn't give a shit, Naruto was already a successful IP, it's too big to fail, let Kishimoto add this shit, who cares, the money will still flow. Anyway, Kaguya's bullshit somehow got greenlit, and Kishimoto got his wish to introduce a thing literally no one asked for, but I guess it did give a reason for that abortion victim's existence which is generally called "Boruto", otherwise it's a bit hard to make up the plot when Naruto is a dang messiah with godly powers who got the entire world together in a few days with his speeches about power of friendship.
The second reason why I think Kishimoto geniuenly believed the hype of this concept is due to the manga he produced later, after Naruto finished - Samurai 8, which follows about the same idea that Kishimoto ended up driving Naruto lore into. Welp, obviously, it didn't last very long, as now alien ninjas weren't attached to a beloved and established series like a joy-sucking parasite, so the manga got axed after about a year (which is a lot longer than most axed series in Shonen Jump get, I imagine Kishimoto's status had to do a lot of the lifting here).
(also a random fun fact but Kishimoto's editor during Samurai 8 days was actually the same guy who was the editor for Horikoshi during BNHA's early 300s chapters. so if you ever wondered why Horikoshi's writing plummeted so hard during the Dark Deku arc, here's why. the guy had the fucking Midas's touch when it comes to greenliting the shittiest plot executions)
So, overall, the time is the reason why things in Naruto's past don't make sense, why things in Naruto's future don't make sense, and Kishimoto changing his mind about things and how the plot should go forward to be awesome are behind why there are some elements that are completely out of place in the manga.
Now, Kishimoto losing interest in the work he's been doing for 15 literal years would have been fine, it's not unusual for artists to do that, however, this is where the second circumstance raises its ugly head.
Circumstance number 2: Naruto is a commercial product produced by a company with awful working conditions
I know, very surprising. But this is a point I see a lot of people miss when they are trying to analyse the events in Naruto, but the thing is - the plot is not solely affected by what was previously established and what Kishimoto has in mind, there are other factors at play, because the manga is not some sort of passion project, it's a product intended to be sold to audiences, and that's a big fucking issue as it can seriously mess with the plot.
Now, what are the important factors that might (but in reality did) affect Kishimoto's writing? Well, there's two things, because Naruto as a manga was sold via two different channels: the volumes as assortments of approximately 10 chapters and individual chapters printed in issues of WSJ (Weekly Shonen Jump).
And here I start rambling about the way the WSJ manga production works, as it's pretty important to understand to realize why things happen and where everything might have gone wrong. Beware that I am retelling the model that is employed currently (so first half of 2020s), so some things might have evolved from the time Naruto was released (1999-2014), but I'm pretty sure I know the places where the old model diverges and it pretty much concerns only the digital part of the business (which would pretty much be absent during the times of Naruto's release).
So, without further ado, here's what is the commercial side of manga production looks like: (almost) every week WSJ releases a magazine issue that includes the newests chapters of whatever roster of mangas they have at the time. Sometimes certain mangas are absent in different magazine issues, which is either due to difficulties in production on author's side (you can read it as "mangaka is in the hospital, because Japanese work culture will bleed you dry before you can leave the workplace") or scheduled breaks (which is actually a pretty recent invention on the editorial's side :D and it is only given to major mangakas who are already very successful, so the ones that I have seen being put on this "work-rest" schedule are Oda, Horikoshi, Gege, Tobata before his leave for GIGA, etc etc; obviously, this was not an option during Kishimoto's times, so both the veterans and newbies were equal in the fact that you draw this shit until your fucking arms fall off, no excuses). But there is an important thing about the order in which the chapters of different mangas are positioned, and most of the time they are arranged according to popularity rating (more on that later). Of course, new mangas are given a boost in positioning to have readers give them a chance/any sort of cause for a colored illustration (they are usually shown at the beginning of the chapter, so if you are seeing one while reading it nowadays as part of the volume - they were already in the magazine previously, unlike omakes in between chapters and volume covers, those were created later than the chapters in the volume) also usually results in a jump in positioning to promote the manga to other readers, yada yada, point is - most of the time the order in the magazine is a good indicator of how successful a manga is, at least in the eyes of the editorial department, which are the most important eyes for mangakas at WSJ.
So, after a while, the manga gains a bit of a backlog of chapters, which are then released as a volume and sold with a pretty cover and omakes. And here's the important thing: the chapters in the volumes are different from the ones released in the magazine. The magazine has everyone run on a damn tight schedule, and every single week you need to have 15 pages ready, with backgrounds, dialogues and so on and so forth, everything needs to be agreed with the manga's editor, and then sent to the printing department, and from there it's logistics, sales, yada yada. Why is this important? Because the weekly versions of the chapters end up looking a bit shit because of the way the magazine operates - you can draw like a god, but if you, realistically, have a very limited time to finish the chapter, even with the help of assistants, mistakes, white backgrounds, weird poses and expressions will still slip through - the mangaka has no time to fix everything before the editor arrives for a new chapter, and asking for more time is not an option, it's a giant system employing thousands of people working on a schedule, and more time for yourself means holding back everyone else in the magazine. So, the volume release is an author's last opportunity to fix things or make them fit better with the vision they had for this or that moment. Regarding the volume of work needed to be done - it really depends on the chapters that are getting released. I speak based on the experience working as a fan translator of BNHA, and sometimes Horikoshi and his team would just add a bit of line art to the chapter, but sometimes we also had like 5 pages fully redrawn and two more spreads (and a spread in manga is 2 pages) added.
As for how large a backlog of a manga is, it also depends on the author, but usually by the time the volume releases there is about 10 chapters that are going to be put into that volume, then there is about 10 chapters already released in the maganize and only then there is the chapter that is being released at about the same time as that specific volume.
So, why is it important to understand the model under which WSJ operates? Well, as you can now clearly see, at the time of publishing that or this chapter of Naruto (that we as readers can see), Kishimoto had not just been working on that specific chapter, he has been juggling at least 20 already made ones (for the upcoming volume releases) and at least several future ones. So, on top of working on the plot/character designs/abilities/whatever else, Kishimoto is also responsible for working on artwork of about 25 chapters. Simultaneously.
This is not counting the additional artworks done for the volumes.
This is not counting additional artworks done for WSJ promos that they do every now and then.
This is not counting the consulting he would need to do for the anime adaptation.
This is not counting the promotional materials he would need to make whenever the executives decide to pump out another Naruto movie (and 90% of the time the original creator has nothing to do with those).
This is not counting whatever exhibitions major mangas would get (and Kishimoto would need to be involved in those as one of the organizers).
Oh, and all of the additional stuff? Kishimoto would not get time off from the manga for that. As a matter of fact, he did not go onto his honeymoon with his wife until after the end of Naruto (2014). He married in 2002.
You get the picture. Naruto is a product which was made in an absolutely cut-throat industry. And honestly with the amount of bullshit producing this thing would involve, a part of me honestly does not blame Kishimoto for choosing to do the plot in an easier, but brainless manner rather than elaborate and well-executed set-ups which would take time and energy to plan.
But let's return to the commercialization aspect, shall we?
Circumstance number 3: Ratings
The sales for the volumes are not a good indicator of how well manga is currenly being received (and currently is an important factor, as manga is being released on weekly basis, while the overall run took 15 actual years). The volumes release once every 3-6 months, and they are very much behind the current events in the manga, which means that in that time you can take manga in a boring direction which would make the majority of readers drop the manga, which, in returns, hits the finanacial indicators of WSJ, and they do not like it.
So this is where the kinda popularity rating for WSJ mangas comes into play, because it gives the author and the editor a good idea of the reception they are getting on the current events in the manga. Now, I'll be honest, I am not exactly sure how it was calculated during Naruto days, as right now, with the official app, e-surveys, so on and so forth, Jump can easily collect and analyse this data, but none of that would exist for the majority of Naruto's run, so I guess a paper survey or something? No idea. But point is, it is there and it's pretty damn important, because the rating is a good indicator of who is going to be axed next.
Now, the term "axed" is something that is frequently used to describe a forceful end to a manga, and the axe is in the hands of the editorial department. But why would the editorial department want to shut down a manga forcefully? Why not let the author finish? Surely there are readers who are following it, even if the ratings are not as high as for the other mangas?
And the answer is simple: money.
WSJ is first and foremost a physical magazine, yes, nowadays there is an app which gives you access to all the latest chapters for a subscription fee, but the editorial department is very much focused on the health and prosperity of the physical magazine. An average chapter for a manga in WSJ is about 15 pages. There are also ads, announcements and such, so you can safely add like 1-2 page of that to the count per each chapter. Now here's the fun part: WSJ at all times has about 20 mangas run concurrently.
And suddenly you realize that a single issue of the magazine is about 300 pages long. 300. And you need to print hundreds of thousands, if not millions of these issues every. single. week. Huh. That's really expensive!
You can also add on the fact that WSJ is a really famous magazine, it's been going since the 60s, and over the years Japanese manga industry had A LOT of hits come from here. Jojo's, One Peace, Naruto, Bleach, Boku no Hero Academia, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man - and those are only off the top of my mind, all of them at some point or always were released in WSJ. It's a widely successful magazine, and there are many mangakas desiring to get into it and show off their ideas to the millions of WSJ readers, but there is only so many mangas the editorial department can accomodate.
Which is why if you got inside, but you are unable to show any results to the editors - bam, you are out. You are given some time to finish up the plot, obviously, but after a month/two/maybe if you're really lucky three - pack up your things and leave the place, you're holding up the line for new mangas.
"But!" you will ask me. "How is this related to Naruto? The chopping block is usually reserved for new mangas that did not manage to gather enough popularity with their first chapters, surely Kishimoto with his established manga would not care for that after a certain point, right? Naruto could never end up in a position where an axe would be considered an option, right?"
Well, you will certainly be right that seasoned mangakas are not as harshly scrutinized as people without a name in the industry, but nope, WSJ would absolutely not allow a dead weight of a manga to continue running if they can have the next billion yen hit instead. I mean, look at what happened to a good buddy of Naruto - Bleach :D
Bleach's ending is awkward and sudden, which is the first sign of Kubo not really intending to go out this way. But a lot of the shonen endings are weird and not really fitting with how epic the earlier plot was, so surely that can't be the only proof, right? Well, here we come to the positioning in the magazine. Bleach's been in the tails of WSJ for years. I, being a teenager, remember looking at the positions of the titles in weekly issues and being surprised at how consistently low Bleach was, even if it was the part of the Silver Era of Shonen Jump on the One Peace - Naruto - Bleach axes. And in retrospect I realize that Bleach was not doing well, at all (and this is in contrast to One Piece which remained consistently high in the positioning, top 5 99% of WSJ issues). I think the fact that I could see Bleach scraping at the bottom for so long is a good confirmation that the editorial department tried to carry its weight for as long as they could, either hoping that Kubo would be able to get the popularity back on track, or something wonderous would happen, but nope, salvation did not arrive. In the end, Bleach, even if at some point it was a giant comparable to Naruto, was shut down, because there is so much patience that a company has.
So, yeah, point being - Kishimoto could absolutely lose it all if the manga did not cater to the tastes of the fans, which is why the plot might have been changed to fit with the demands of the market. I believe we even have an arc which has actually been confirmed to be cut down due to external influences - and that is Akatsuki Suppression arc.
Personally, while this arc does not include that many of my favorite characters, I still consider it one of the best that Naruto has to offer. It's fun, it explores relationships between different characters (not named Naruto or Sasuke) and their values, it tries diving deeper into the worldbuilding and stuff, and the battles don't end up being a competition for who is going to drop the biggest nuke. However, as it's been stated by Kishimoto in one of the interviews, there were changes introduced to this arc both due to health issues Kishimoto was dealing with and editor's involvement, and I think even from the readers' standpoint it's obvious what and why it happened.
First of all, the main character for this arc is Shikamaru. And let's be honest, who is paying Kishimoto's bills? That's right, the fans of the most popular characters - Naruto, Sasuke and Kakashi - none of whom are that much involved in that arc. Sasuke has pretty much nothing to do with that story line, and the plot mostly focuses on team Asuma, which makes involving Naruto and/or Kakashi weird and awkward (which is exactly what happens come the end of this arc :D). So the first problem shows itself - the manga is in an arc in which a big chunk of the fanbase has no interest in, which translates into sales and rating falling. Then we have a problem with the characters involved in the arc - team Asuma and the immortal duo. The only one among them who can be considered popular is Shikamaru, so the drop in interest will be pretty significant regardless of what you make these characters do. And Shikamaru himself is a problem, but not from the readers' point of view, but Kishimoto's - Shikamaru's fights are not flashy due to the nature of his characters, they are more about tactics and twists. And these (regardless of their quality, yes, I am looking at you, the final battle of this arc), unfortunately, require time and effort to make - things, as we have established, Kishimoto did not have, as he is already overworked and sick as hell.
Yeah... everything about this arc is a pain in the ass for mangaka doing it in the moment. Yes, theoretically the arc might become more appreciated later, but why risk and punish yourself now for very little reward. And this is why Hidan and Kakuzu are very much the weakest members of Akatsuki - whatever ideas Kishimoto had for their abilities had to be scrapped because he was rushing to put an end to this arc and move on to the "good stuff" involving more Naruto and Sasuke. Hidan got particularly bad with it, the guy's stats in the databooks make zero fucking sense (very high on ninjutsu, hand seals and genjutsu - THINGS HE NEVER USES IN THE PLOT). This is why Naruto appears out of nowhere, makes a big boom and saves the day - to finally get the main character involved in the story and salvage the ratings. This is why Kishimoto even needs to resort to big explosion go kaboom - because it allows him not to waste time on Shikamaru type fights which require characters analyse each other's abilities and weaknesses to go for a strike and which will not be popular with the audience anyway, but rather focus on drawing people throwing nukes at each other and surviving by the power of plot.
And, as we can see, as the years went on, this is exactly the path Kishimoto chose for the manga to go to, because if it sells well, why bother working twice as hard, especially when the conditions you are in already very much suck? And that's how we ended up in the disaster that are the last 100 chapters of Naruto.
Conclusion
Sooooo... yeah, I think this pretty much covers all the major things I believe are important to keep in mind when analysing Naruto's plot. Naruto, unfortunately, was not written in a vacuum, and I am not sure it would have been better if it was (alien ninja bullshit go brrrr), as editors' involvement sometimes brought some fantastic ideas into Kishimoto's writing (Sasuke's entire character and Chunin exam arc as major examples), cut out the shitty ones, but also sometimes led to us losing good chunks of plot and ideas because the readers at the time were not satisfied with the manga.
Overall, these things are a pretty important to understand when you are attempting to think through Naruto's story. If things don't make sense in-universe, sometimes the answers can not be found in the material, because the manga was written by a real living human being with a ton of problems, and these problems end up seeping through into the pages.
(not that it's going to stop me from bashing Kishimoto for lazy writing. I can understand the circumstances, but that does not entail forgiving the shitty quality of the final product)
Anyway, thanks for coming for another Tobitalk, here's something funny I found while working on this post: an interview from Kishimoto given to someone named Kobayashi sometime in 2015, and it's fucking hilarious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kishimoto's editor, in thunderous voice: drop the old man fight already🫵😡
And another one
Tumblr media
And entire fucking scene introduced in the manga just to give studio Pierrot some time because of the shitty model Naruto anime operated under? Oh, my sides

Angsty GOS thoughts I had.
While Kakashi was mortal, was there no one else who could make it rain? Not even a little? Imagine the devestation the world might be in 32 years (adding conception. So 31 + 9 months),and not one drop of rain around the globe.
Yamato must be struggling to stay alive with no rain for his forests.
Rivers, lakes, ponds must be depleting/ almost dried up everywhere.
Whole continents are threatening to turn to deserts.
The air must be so incredibly dry all the time.
Are the clouds above super condensed and heavy, due to them never raining. Or are they nearly unexistent, drying in the atmosphere beneath the hot sun.
All the while I'm sure gods are trying to find any way they can to moisturize/ wash the earth. And its taking a lot of combined efforts to cover Kakashi's job... but all the while, Sakumo is fighting for his son's mortal happiness, he loves him more than the world. He's doing everything to ensure Kakashi gets to live as long as possible.
Which made me wonder...was it an really a random mugger that cut down Kakashi one day? Or did someone take matters into their own hands...
And then I wondered... what if it was Obito who decided to kill his own brother, in order to save the world.
Obito, a god of Death. He who could get around his father by making him think he would side with him. Obito who knew of Kakashi's bond with Gai and how meaningful this relationship must be to both of them...
But Obito who also knows how responsible Kakashi is. How dutiful. How he cares about others above himself. Who would never forgive himself if Yamato were to perish, who must be feeling all sorts of wrong in a world without his storms.
And so, with a cloak, a dagger and a human disguise, Obito takes matters into his own hands. Causes a scene in a way he KNOWS Kakashi would try and stop...and takes his brother's human life, in order to bring about the rain and save the world.
And he hates himself for doing it. And he's not sure if Kakashi will ever forgive him, he hates the devestation this causes his father, Kakashi's human, elderly parents, and Gai, who through so many life cycles and reincarnations, was someone he considered a friend. Maybe he even did it at a time Kakashi and Gai were discussing expanding their family. And he knew he HAD to stop that, just on the basis of stopping Kakashi from seeing his mortal children eventually grow old and die like his lover... his now husband.
Obito knew he had to do it for the greater good...but it kills him inside, to have done so. And he doesn't know if he'll ever be able to wash his brother's mortal blood off his hands.
He's not sure he wants to be forgiven.
Hey hey HEY THAT HURT!!!! My heart, it is wounded! *lays down to cry*
Ok, so to clarify
Yes by the time Kakashi is 31 in his mortal life, things are really bad. At first the world continued moving. Water evaporated and rained back down. The biggest thing is that Kakashi controlled when it rained, but without him clouds continue to gather until there’s just a huge dump of water, at which point they would have moved on Temari’s wind. Thus they gathered water in one area and dumped somewhere completely different.
This cycle doesn’t continue forever though and without Kakashi there to keep the rain replenished, the available water began to dwindle.
It’s not just Tenzo suffering at this point. Nakano’s river’s are almost empty and if they dry up completly she dies.
The world is suffering major droughts and people are beginning to fight over water. Greed is becoming rampant even before Kakuzu returns, but with Water as such a scarce resource it continues to be rampent.
So i think Obito would take that task on himself.
He would see Kakashi’s precious people, gods and mortals alike, suffering and know that Kakashi would not want this.
He would not want to live to be 100 with Gai at his side if it cost him Tenzo and Nakano.
He would not want people to suffer for what he would preceive as his own greed, which is exactly what he was fighting against when him and Kakuzu killed each other.
And that’s how Obito knows his brother will never blame him.
Kakashi never thinks of himself first. He never hordes greedy thoughts, and is actively the complete opposite of greed. He will give every piece of himself away to ensure other’s are alright and that is why him and Kakuzu clash so bad.
Kakashi represents duty and sacrifice
Kakuzu represents greed
They can never get along.
So as much as Obito knows this will hurt Kakashi, and as angry as he knows Sakumo will be about it, he does this not just for the world but also in a way for Kakashi.
So Kakashi won’t come back to a world without his precious pup in it, or his adorable Kohai.
So Kakashi won’t live the rest of eternity with the guilt that his personal desires were considered over the needs of others.
Obito will wear his brother’s blood on his hands for all of eternity so that Kakashi doesn’t have to wear the blood of countless others

@depressedhatakekakashi
TLDR: I think Itachi is worse because he committed genocide and tortured Sasuke while never feeling any explicit regret about it. Also Omoi is cute and funny.
I wanted Omoi to lose so luckily my side was victorious. I do not like Itachi. I do genuinely feel sad for him, and he is an incredibly tragic character but nonetheless he committed genocide and proceeded to torture Sasuke. He was groomed from the age of 4 to despise the Uchiha and ultimately made the choice to proceed with the genocide.. My heart absolutely breaks for him as a child.. A kid who was traumatized by war and just wanted a way to avoid more battle, a kid who was used, manipulated, and groomed by a village system that is founded on racism against his clan. He was so genuinely put through so much turmoil at such a young age that although I dislike him as a child, I cannot hate him. My feelings for Itachi would still be negative but generally mixed had he not gone out of his way to torture Sasuke…. That was *entirely* his doing and had no influence from anyone else. That was his decision alone. Not only did he use the Mangekyou Sharingan to make Sasuke witness and rewatch Itachi killing his entire clan and parents over and over and over again for days (MULTIPLE TIMES!), not only did he tell Sasuke that he did it to ‘test his ability’ and that Sasuke was too pathetic to kill, not only did he not allow Sasuke to even attempt to heal but excessively fuelled his anger and desire for revenge, manipulating and controlling him as a child (sound familiar?), not only did he leave Sasuke entirely alone in a village he knows *hates* the Uchiha in a literal systemic way, but even when he died and was attempted to be painted as a saint instead…. He was still not good! It took him until he was dying the second time to *finally* question whether he *might* have not made the right choice by leaving Sasuke in the dark. He also planned to die having Sasuke never know the truth of the Uchiha massacre, he never intended to stop lying to Sasuke, Obito spoiled that for him. People tend to forgive him so easily because they think he’s hot. Whether that’s true or not you should be able to note that one is attractive while still acknowledging that they are ultimately not a good person.
Also Omoi is very cute and I like him.. He’s very funny, I find it silly that he literally brought a stash of suckers to a war, and his anxious thoughts shouldn’t be a sole reason he is deemed the worst Naruto character. Specially when being compared to someone who committed genocide.

… Everything is permitted.
What is real?
What is not?
Is she just turning crazy or are other powers at work?
One thing is clear Kohana will get to the bottom of this and maybe change the whole Ninja-World at the same time.
S.I. Third Shinobi World War

!!!!PLEASE READ AND REVIEW!!!
Since Obito’s Grandma doesn’t have an official name I gave her own. ^^
I hope you like it. :D
Chapter 8: New Discoveries
The next day, before it was time to meet with her team, Kohana walked into the Uchiha District.
Where else could she find information about Uchiha Madara and hopefully his lover, her ancestor, Haruno Sakuya?
Soon she reached Obito's house and knocked on the door.
Her teammate opened it after a few seconds.
“Yes, hello?”, he yawned cutely, still sleepy and in his sleepwear.
Konoha wished to have a camera to immortalize this moment.
Obito was adorable!
But she was here on business.
“Morning Obito-Kun, shouldn’t you get ready to meet up with our team?”, she couldn’t help but tease.
It was like lighting struck him, waking the Uchiha full up.
“Huah! Konoha-Chan?! Aww, don’t tell me you really will pick me up till I get my tardiness under control.”, he whined.
Gosh, he was so cute.
The urge to kiss his cheeks was strong in Konoha.
Why was her crush such a cutie?
So unfair!
“I’m also here for that.”, she told him and hid a giggle as he groaned. “But I need your help with something.”
“Huh? What is it, Konoha-Chan.”
She took a deep breath.
What she was going to ask could get Obito in trouble and that’s the last that she wanted.
Needless she said: “Uchiha Madara. I learned recently that my ancestor Haruno Sakuya was his lover did you know this?”
Obito's eyes widened at the mention of Uchiha Madara and Haruno Sakuya.
So he knows something!
That was surprising.
He quickly composed himself and replied, "Yes, I've heard about it. But it's not something we talk about openly in the district. It’s all hush-hush...Uchiha’s don’t normally date or marry outside the clan. But..."
The boy waved her over. Konoha stepped closer so that he could whisper in her ear.
She ignored the warm shower over her body as his hot breath stroked her skin.
“But...My Grandma told me that Sakuya was a special case. She was a welcomed guest in our clan since she was a Miko devoted to Amaterasu, our patron goddess. So as she and Uchiha Madara courted, the clan was okay with it. Even the Elders and they were always a pain in the ass.”
Huh, that was interesting.
“Sorry, but wasn’t Madara the Clan Head? Couldn’t he marry whoever he wanted?”, wondered Konoha.
The Uchiha shook his head.
“If you want to bring an outsider into the clan you need the permission of the Elders. Whatever just a normal shinobi or the clanhead.”
Double huh.
“Konoha-Chan do you wanna come in? Grandma knows more about this stuff than I do. She met Sakuya when she was a little girl.”
Well, if Obito's grandma personally knew her ancestor, who was she to say no?
Konoha thanked Obito for inviting her in and followed him into the kitchen.
His grandma, Uchiha Keika, was sitting on the kitchen table drinking a cup of tea.
“Obito-Chan who was it on the door?”, asked the elderly lady.
“Gran you remember my friend Konoha?”, said Obito putting a hand on Konoha’s shoulder. “She wants to ask you something.”
The Haruno bowed down.
“I hope I don’t disturb.”
That’s when Keika looked at her and blinked owlish.
“Incredible...you look exactly like her! Aren’t you a Haruno, child?”
“Yes I’m Uchiha-San.”
“Aww, any friend of my Obito can call me grandma, sweetheart.”
Now Konoha awed in her head.
Obito's grandma was as sweet as she remembers
“Alright, grandma, I look like who?”
“I met her when I was a child and she a grown woman, but you have the same face, eyes and hair colour as Sakuya-Sama.”
Konoha couldn't believe it.
She looked like her ancestor, Haruno Sakuya.
That was unbelievable!
And also strange.
Not only was she reliving the life of her ancestor, but she looked also like her.
Something was definitely not normal about that.
"Grandma, I'm so grateful for your time. I've been trying to learn more about my ancestor and her connection to Uchiha Madara for months," Konoha said eagerly.
"Of course, dear. It's always nice to see young people taking an interest in their family history.", Keika smiled kindly to her and then turned to Obito. “Take an example from your friend Obito-Chan.”
“Gran!”, whined the boy.
“Obito-Chan go make some tea for Konoha-Chan, while we talk. Sit down, dear.”
Both kids did as Keika asked them.
So while Obito heated up the tea again, Konoha sat in front of the older Uchiha.
"Can you tell me more about Sakuya's relationship with Uchiha Madara? How did they meet?" Konoha asked, leaning forward.
The old woman took a sip of her tea before answering. "Sakuya-Sama was a Miko devoted to Amaterasu, which is our patron goddess. She often visited our clan to perform purification rituals and offer blessings. That's how she first met Madara."
The old woman giggled.
“Sakuya-Sama was a real beauty. A lot of men and women in our clan crushed on her. When I saw her the first time, I thought she was some nature deity herself. I bet you will grow up to be just as beautiful.”
This made Konoha bashful, looking into the tea cup Obito placed in from of her as the boy joined them on the kitchen table.
“Really Gran?”, wondered Obito. “Some of our clansmen were crushing on Sakuya?”
Keika nodded. "Yes, but ironically it wasn’t Madara who first caught her eye. It was Izuna, Madara younger brother. They were inseparable from the moment they met. They became quite good friends, their relationship resembled the one siblings had. Madara was quite jealous that a woman spending so much time with his beloved brother and also he felt like Izuna was favouring a stranger over him. Actually Sakuya and Madara butted heads on more than one occasion, they were like cat and dog."
Keika took another sip of her tea before continuing. "But eventually Madara saw the error in his ways, after a lot of shouting matches between him and Sakuya and between Izuna and himself. It’s said that Izuna told his brother he would always be his most precious person, but he was allowed to have others too. Madara accepted their friendship, but then Izuna died at the hands of Senju Tobirama. You both truly know the story."
Both kids nodded.
“I know that Sakuya was also friends with Senju Hashirama and Senju Tobirama, I can’t image how it felt to hear your friend killed your other friend.”, mumbled Konoha.
"It was a devastating time for her and Madara. But this was the Warring States Era for you. Friends could become foes in one second, foes could become your friends.”, shared Keika with them. “In their grief for Izuna, they became friends and eventually in time Madara and Sakuya fell in love with each other.”
"Their love was a forbidden one, as Uchihas were not allowed to marry outside the clan. But Madara was the Clan Head and had some leverage, so he went against the Elders' wishes and married Sakuya in secret. They kept their marriage hidden from everyone, even their closest friends and family members."
Konoha's eyes widened in surprise. "They got married? I had no idea."
"Yes, my dear," Keika said with a smile. "Their love was strong enough to overcome any obstacle. But unfortunately, it was short-lived. Madara became consumed by hate and his desire for power. He never could forgive Senju Tobirama for killing his brother, even if it was war back then and it was killed or to be killed, then he didn’t become Hokage and our clan was tired of the fighting. Sakuya had found in her heart the power to forgive Senju Tobirama and worked with Senju Hashirama, Tobirama and Uzumaki Mito to create a peaceful village and better life for all of us. Sakuya couldn't bear to see Madara become someone she didn't recognize anymore. She tried to save him from himself, but you know it was fruitless.”
Keika sighed sadly, "It was a tragic end to their love story. Madara and Sakuya parted ways, with Madara going down a dark path that ultimately led to his downfall. Sakuya continued to work towards peace and prosperity for the village until her death. She married a civilian man, and had a son and a daughter with him. Her son, Haruno Oga is your great-grandfather, right?"
Konoha simply nodded.
Keika took a deep breath and continued, "But you know, Konoha, I always felt that Madara regretted his actions towards the end. He realized too late what he had lost in Sakuya and how much she meant to him. It's a tragedy that their love couldn't survive the turmoil of those times."
The Haruno listened intently to Keika's words, feeling a sense of sadness wash over her. She couldn't help but wonder what it would have been like if Madara had chosen differently.
Would her ancestor still be alive today?
Would their love have survived?
Obito cleared his throat, breaking the sombre mood in the room. "So, Konoha-chan, did you find out everything you wanted to know?"
Konoha nodded slowly, still lost in thought. "Yes, thank you both for sharing your knowledge with me. It means a lot."
"Anytime dear, it was lovely having you over. And Obito-chan," she turned to her grandson with a stern expression, "make sure you're not late for your team meeting again."
Obito groaned playfully as Konoha stood up from the table.
"I'll wait for you outside then, Obito," she said with a small smile.
Quickly Obito finished his tea, got dressed and joined Konoha outside.
As they walked towards their meeting spot, Konoha couldn't help but think about the tragic love story of her ancestor.
It was both beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
She wondered if such a forbidden love could exist in today's world, where people were more accepting of different cultures and backgrounds.
It made her think about her own feelings for Obito.
She had always found him cute and charming, but now she realized that there was something deeper there.
Maybe it was the way he talked about his grandmother and his clan with such passion, or the way he had helped her uncover the secrets of her family history.
Whatever it was, Konoha knew that she wanted to explore these feelings further.
However, at the same time, she couldn't shake off the feeling that their love would also be forbidden.
After all, they were from different clans and had different backgrounds.
Would their relationship be accepted by their families and friends?
Would they be able to overcome any obstacles that came their way?
When they approached their team, Obito turned to her with a serious expression. "Konoha-chan, I hope you won't tell anyone about what my grandma told us. It's a sensitive topic in our clan."
Konoha nodded understandingly. "Of course, Obito-kun. Your secret is safe with me."
Then Konoha was reminded again why thinking about being with Obito was useless since not even a second his eyes landed on Rin, he left her side to talk to his crush.
Something like a dying whale sound left her lips.
“I don’t get what you see in this idiot.”
Shocked Konoha turned to a deadpanning Kakashi beside her. She didn’t even hear how he had approached her.
“I-I don’t know what you mean...”
The Hatake just deadpanned harder.
“Of course.”
Konoha felt her cheeks heat up as she tried to compose herself.
She couldn't believe she had just made such a sound in front of Kakashi. But the truth was, she couldn't help it.
Watching Obito fawn over Rin was like a punch to the gut every time.
She sighed and looked away, trying to hide her embarrassment from Kakashi. However, he seemed unfazed by her outburst, almost amused even.
"You know," he said after a moment of silence, "sometimes what we see in others is not always rational or logical."
The Haruno looked back at him, confused. "What do you mean?"
Kakashi shrugged nonchalantly. "Maybe Obito sees something in Rin that we don't. And maybe you see something in Obito that he doesn't see in himself."
She felt her heart skip a beat at his words.
Was Kakashi suggesting...no, it couldn't be possible. She shook her head and tried to push the thought out of her mind.
Yet as they continued to watch Obito and Rin together, Konoha couldn't help but wonder if there was more to their relationship than meets the eye. And maybe, just maybe, there was still hope for her own feelings towards Obito after all.
“Good morning, kids.”, called them Minato-Sensei.
Surprised Konoha blinked at the beautiful red-haired woman on his side.
She seemed familiar...
Suddenly she got one of her visions!
Minato-Sensei and the woman, Kushina were her name, throwing themselves at the claws of the Kyuubi to protect a little blond baby on an altar. In their last moments, Kushina talks to the baby, Naruto, their son, giving him advice to become a good man...
With a little hiss, Konoha messaged her hurting temple.
God this was a heartbreaking vision!
What would happen if she didn’t manage to change the future?
In no way in hell would she let Minato-Sensei and Kushina get killed, leaving little precious Naruto alone in the world?
As the team gathered curious around Minato-Sensei and his guest, Konoha tried to keep her composure and focus at hand.
Sadly her mind kept drifting back to the vision she had just experienced. She couldn't let it become a reality!
“Kids, I want you to meet someone, this is Uzumaki Kushina.”, presented Minato-Sensei the grinning red-haired woman. “She is one of Konoha's best Fuin Jutsu and Kenjutsu Masters, also she is my girlfriend.”
“Nice meeting Minato-Kun cute little Genin.”, cooed Kushina at them. “He told me a lot about you, let’s see..”
The red-haired started to point at them.
“Cute brunette with lilac stripes and already a prodigy in medical Jutsu you must be Rin.”
This made Rin giggle cutely.
“Charming black-haired boy with goggles who is really good with his fire jutsu, you are Obito from the Uchiha Clan.”
The boy rubbed his nose shyly.
“Adorable green-haired girl with cool glasses, a prodigy in assassination techniques and has this cool weapon named Hidden Blade, you must be Konoha.”
Konoha couldn’t help but blush at the praise.
“And the last of you....”, dramatically Kushina stopped before she grinned even brighter. “Kashi-Kun we already know each other.”
Kakashi ignored that Obito seemed to die of laughter, hearing Kushina's nickname for him and just deadpanned at her.
“Hello Kushina-San.”
Minato-Sensei had also an amused smile on his face. “Kushina here wanted to see for herself how good you guys already are. So today you will spar against her.”
Why did Konoha have a bad feeling about this? Kushina smiled at them promising a world of hurt and pain.
“So we four against Kushina-San?”, asked Rin to clarify.
“That’s right, Rin-Chan.”
Kushina got her Katana out, heaving now an evil look on her face.
“You four need to work to together to get me, Dattebane!”
Then she started her attack!
The four Genin were no match for Kushina's skills.
She moved with such speed and grace that they could barely keep up. Also, she threw at them Fuin Jutsu traps like no tomorrow!
Kakashi tried his best to coordinate their attacks since he had already fought Kushina in several meetings, sadly it seemed like they were just getting in each other's way.
Kushina was enjoying herself immensely, laughing as she dodged their attacks effortlessly.
It was clear that she wasn't taking the fight seriously at all.
This was so frustrating.
Suddenly, Konoha had an idea. She signalled to the others to back off and let her take the lead.
They looked at her sceptically, yet she gave them a determined nod.
The Haruno actives her Eagle Vision.
The world turned into the familiar black space, highlighting the persons in a blue Aura.
Since Kushina was their opponent she was tinted in red.
And in gold were the weak points of the Fuin Jutsus Traps!
Perfect.
A little smirk formed on Konoha's face.
She totally ignored Kushina's sword slash and concreted to hit with her Hidden Blade the weak points.
The Fuin Jutsu Trap destroyed themselves with satisfied pops.
“What, Dattebane?!”, shouted Kushina shocked.
Not only she was shocked.
Anyone was.
How did Konoha do this?!
Grappling the change that Kushina was distracted, Konoha made fast handsings.
She thanked her brother Kizashi mentally that he had shown her this Jutsu.
“Earth Style! Headhunter Jutsu!”
Thanks to the Jutsu Kushina was buried to the head into the ground.
The other Genin rushed forward to help Konoha finish the job, however, Kushina just laughed and broke free from the trap with ease.
"Not bad," she said approvingly. "You kids have some potential."
Minato-Sensei clapped his hands together in admiration. "Well done! I'm impressed by your teamwork."
The four Genin beamed at them.
“I’m impressed by you Konoha-Chan. How do you find the weak spots of the Fuin Jutsu Trap and disable them like that...Are you interested in Fuin Jutsu?”, wonder Kushina.
Before Konoha could say something Obito shouted: “What the heck?! Konoha since when do you have golden eyes?!”
Oh shit, she had forgotten to deactivate Eagle Vision.
Now all looked at her interested.
“Konoha.”, said Minato-Sensei calmy. “Do you need to tell me something important...like how a new Kekkai Genkai, especially a Dojutsu, awakened in you?”
Oh shit, what should she do now?!
!!!!PLEASE READ AND REVIEW!!!

The elders at the retirement home he frequently visited.
It felt extremely odd to think back and be reminded that this man, this humble and incredibly sweet ridiculously handsome and hot man, had once been at war with them. Shikamaru had hated him for a long time. He couldn't stand it, but when Uzumaki Naruto has made his mind up about something, it is set in stone. Uchiha Obito would not sit and rot in a sealed cell somewhere far away from civilisation. He'd remain in Konoha and work off his 'debt'. It had been infuriating and down right humiliating in a way. Shikamaru had been close to drop everything and leave. But he had long ago made a promise to Naruto, the land of Fire and himself to be there and aid Naruto. He needed him... so he stayed and bit his tongue.
Then time passed, they worked together and slowly got to know each other a bit better, much against Shikamaru's wishes in the beginning.
Now... Now he was walking beside Obito in a relaxing stroll, listening intently at the other's harmless and warm words. Apparently he often went to the retirement home and made the elder's lives brighter by just being there, keeping them company. He proudly wore childish garments and strangely enough looked great in them. And the heartwarming scene playing out right in front of Shikamaru right then, with Obito and Mirai, seemed so perfectly natural. The shadow user wanted so badly to be a part of it, of that image. His heart ached to fit into it. With them. With him.
...What? No, no, no. Have I completely lost my mind? I'm just thanking him for finding and helping Mirai. A dinner at home is a bit much, though... Am I sure there is no other thought behind it? There is nothing more. You could've eaten somewhere else... We have prepared food at home, it would be a shame to let it go to waste. We could have eaten it tomorrow. I wanted to thank him right away, that is all.
That is all...
Mirai laughed happily and held onto Obito's head carefully, but then reached both arms out and waved them like a bird's wings. "It's amazing! I wish I could be this tall all the time! Papa looks like a baby deer instead now!"
Shikamaru blinked and a blush began to appear on his cheeks and nose, making the white dots become more visible. He had completely forgotten about the face paint and the damn antlers. Man... in front of Obito, of all people... He took the opportunity of her words and pulled the deer ear and antlers off his head. "Well, a fawn has no antlers yet, right?" Mirai shook her head and giggled. "Oh, oh! I can see our lanterns!" the girl pointed ahead toward the Nara compound, and Shikamaru sighed very quietly in relief. Then he could soon wash this off his face.
"... That is very kind of you. Going to the retirement home, I mean. What gave you that idea?"
There was some very loud beating going on in his ears. And the sound of rushing waves. Creating a tune that refused to get in sync to form a decent melody. Pull yourself together Obito. It's not a date. A mental necessary slap to not write his emotions all over his face.
But what if it was ? What would it be like if it was just the two of us?
Walking side by side with the human stag and the little kin in front, Obito's eye scanned over other places. It was a shame, and also a good thing that Shikamaru was on his right or else he'd be caught looking. More than ten times on his part and lie saying he was just admiring Mirai's art on her dad's face. His face too of course.
❝ Eh- ❞ Looking down at his attire, he just remembered what he was wearing… outside… in front of basically everyone that was walking around. And in front of S h i k a m a r u. As if his night could get anymore embarassing. ❝ Oh this? Ahaha- Uhh.. No, I can’t make or craft things. Buuut, one of the elders at the retirement home, her daughter, who also works there, used to be a seamstress and made this for me as a thank you gift for christmas last year. It was for consistent visits and keeping them entertained. ❞
❝ It’s uh.. Supposed to be Juubi but, cute.. -ish. Ya know...? ❞ Doubt but always a possibility that they did. ❝ Aside from that it’s actually pretty comfortable and it’s got this sweet kangaroo pouch! ❞ What better way to show that feature off than to shove his hands in it?!
It was the little things that made a man like this as happy as a toddler on Halloween night, and this was just one of them. The other was this impromptu date thank you dinner from his crush Shikamaru. Not a date not a date not a date…
❝ ‘Course you can! ❞ Slipping his hands under Mirai’s arms, he lifted her high into the sky before setting her on his shoulders once more. ❝ How’s the view from up there? ❞

Obito waking up to find you still asleep on your tummy and he wakes you the best way he knows how:
He’s kneeling above your knees, to start playing with your pretty brown buns, roughly but slowly squeezing your ass. He just wants to rub his fingers along your hot, wet sex, softly pressing onto it and then rubbing, pressing against your throbbing clit again, throwing you into a fit of whimpers. At this point you’re awake and trying to get a hold of your surroundings, the intense pleasure coursing through you.
“Ahhh yes please!”, you softly whine, enjoying the delicious jolts of pleasure that shot though you, your toes curling and your hands gripping the sheets. He stopped stimulating you, leaving you to jitter in pleasure as he started softly but rapidly smacking your ass, making you squeal before he began rubbing his hands along your back, then your breasts and you tummy, feeling you all over again.
When he felt that you were a little calmer he spoke, “Well good morning my sweetheart”, he coes, “how did you sleep?”. “Gooo- uuuhhhh! Ooooh! Good baby”, you managed to stutter, as Obito starting rubbing your clit again, dipping his thumb into your heat before roughly pressing your clit in tight circles .You were such a mess as you came, your body violently convulsing as your orgasm tore you apart.
But Obito didn’t stop working your pussy, his actions growing rougher, forcing you to cum all over him, soaking him and the bed sheets, your ass roughly jiggled from the force of his hand. S I N I S T E R. You were so incredibly sexy, he could just eat you up.
“Ooo there you go baby”, he moans, unable to resist moving down to dip his tongue into your pussy, spreading your thighs apart and hooking onto your hips so he can force you onto his mouth, your back arching and your thighs beginning to shiver as he starts sucking your clit, occasionally tongue fucking you. Your jerking and squirming, trying to crawl away from the overstimulation but Obito has you secure, not faltering from his actions, bringing you to an incredible second orgasm, your pussy making a mess that he eagerly lapped up.
Fuck you were so beautiful. Especially early in the morning like this. The rays of the morning sun illuminating your warm, brown skin. “Baby, did you sleep well?”, he randomly asked, his thumb replacing his tongue to stimulate your clit while he began toying with your anus, licking and pushing his other thumb into it, watching it stretch open before replacing it with his tongue. “I- ahhhhh!”, you choked, the pleasure so intense as he kept roughly rubbing your sensitive clit. You were sure you’d cum soon enough at this rate.
“S-slept well!”, you cried out, your boyfriend keeping you cumming for him, not stopping to give you a break like he does sometimes.
“Obito! Uhhhh!!!!! God yes!”, you cried out, gripping the sheets for dear life. Obito’s middle finger was knuckle deep in your ass, slowly stimulating you enough that you began crying, burying your face into your pillow to bite and scream into it. Finally he made you cum again, this orgasm much more intense, making your whole entire body quake like a leaf, your screams muffled by the pillow as he slowly lapped at your clit, letting you ride out your orgasm on his face.
You couldn’t take it anymore, your hand coming up behind you to push at his head, your body turning to the side so you could see him. You were still orgasming when he looked up to see what you were trying to do. His heart skipped a beat at the sight of your teary face, your chubby cheeks wet and your your eyes shut tight as you pulled his hair, pushing him away from your sensitive clit.
He pulled back, fully turning you over so he could admire the way your body reacted to his actions, rubbing his hands all over your shaky self, coming up to latch into a nipple. “Baby, do you have any idea how gorgeous you are? I fucking love you baby girl”, he said, pulling at your nipple with his teeth. Your eyes fluttered open while you bit your lip your hands cupping his face to look at him.
“Th-thank you. I love y-you too but you’re playing around t-too much”, you softly whined, your back still arching and your hips jolting as your came down from the amazing orgasm your boyfriend woke you up to.
Obito chuckled, sitting on his knees to lift your thighs up, pushing them down to your chest. “Obito!”, you whined, noticing the lust in his eyes as he was staring between your legs.
“Baby, I want more okay, don’t push me away again or I’m tying you up”, he said, his warm mouth working your pussy again, your puffy lips being spread apart by his tongue, before he starts flicking at your clit again, sinking two fingers into your heat.
You just knew this was going to be a long morning.

Can't believe no one has asked you this, (or at least nothing I have seen) but Obito/Kakashi/Gai for the ship bingo 💖
Tumblr media
They got it all.... childhood friends to lovers... childhood enemies to lovers.... just regular old enemies to lovers....
I have Many Thoughts about possible dynamics between them, but I just love almost every possible way in which these boys can be mashed together. They're my three favourite characters, minus Sakura and Tsunade, so by the law of shipping they have to smooch.
...Also Obito being literally the only person in the entire world who Gai fucking loathes is hilarious to me.
I'm obsessed with their relationship in particular, in the OT3 scenario!
It starts out with Gai hating him for everything he did to Kakashi (and because Kakashi forgives him WAY too easily and gets very close to him again, and Gai is... concerned. That’s the word. Yup. Concerned).
It gradually becomes Gai finding everything Obito does incredibly abrasive and annoying.
And then...
Well, he can't stop thinking about the dude. He looks for him whenever he's not there, he thinks about him even when he's with Kakashi. And when Kakashi's not there, he thinks about him and Obito together, instead.
The racing heart, the furious flush, the heat in his chest - that's just jealousy, right??
Right?
He's never hated someone before. What the fuck is this?? Why does get stupidly hot and angry whenever he sees Obito? It's not just because of Kakashi, is it? No. No, this is something else...
He talks to Kakashi about it, who stares at him for a solid five minutes before breaking the news that there is a considerable possibility that Gai has a crush sdlkfhgklsdfhgsdfg

fuck marry kill
obito, kushimaru, and zetsu?
hi, catsie! so:
⚠️ NSFW under the cut.
marry: obito, of course! i can't help it, i love him! 😩 the absolute dream of my life is being rin and sandwiched between obito and kakashi for all eternity (i attached a pic at the end of this). also because he just deserves love and i would gladly spend the rest of my life trying to make him feel loved and happy. and because he's hot af. i love him, ok.
kill: look, i'm sorry, i really am, but it's your mans kushimaru. i'm only killing him out of respect for you, ok?????? don't kill me. he's your mans, i could NEVER fuck or marry him, he's yours. and also i'd fuck zetsu and marry obito, so i can't put him anywhere else... yes, he's hot and tall and a swordsman, BUT I'm sorry.
fuck: i'm going to say zetsu, because he's cute and also that must be at least interesting af because 2. like white zetsu is being all cute and gentle and black zetsu is just like "no, you're doing it wrong, let me show you how you should fuck a bitch", so you have both in the same package, you know? like i said, interesting at least!
the picture i mentioned:

ObiRin Misconception - Obito’s Trauma
Okay why is it that I am seeing so many obirin hate lately? Let me clear up some misunderstandings. This is by no means a post for people to change their minds about shipping obirin (ship whoever you want, it’s not my business), rather, people are disliking this ship for reasons I find ... well... baffling.
So here is my perspective (and no, it does not invalidate another’s perspective in any way just in case you’re wondering).
I have always been an avid obirin shipper, and as a feminist, people may question the contradictory nature of this.
Obito is in an incredibly complex character and alas, there is a reason why I absolutely love him. He is my favourite, has always been and will always be (also, he’s a villain and he’s hot). Though there are parallels between Obito and Naruto, it’s important to distinguish the nuances. Both characters had no family growing up (I am not going to count Obito’s grandma as she is an anime only character and not technically canon), had it tough at the Academy, disliked by a lot of people and technically an outlier. However, Obito never had an older mentor growing up, whereas Naruto did (that would be Iruka). When children are growing and developing, having someone to provide that nurturing environment and guidance is crucial for their mental and physical development. Because neither of them had their families, Naruto was lucky that he had Iruka. Iruka provided that big brother figure, the mentor and in some ways a caring environment for Naruto, despite the hardships. Obito, however, did not receive any of this.
What Obito did have, was Rin. The two have been childhood friends for a very long time. Rin gave Obito that sense of security and attachment, despite them being the same age. She always cared for him and saw him more than just some dumbass nuisance Uchiha outlier. Obito’s love for Rin transcended romance. Of course the romance was the overt part, but his love for her was his sense of security. She was his safe space. When a child grows up without love or care from a parenting figure or a mentor, they will find ways to cope and latch onto the closest thing they can find safety and comfort in. Rin took on this role. So when Rin was killed before him, naturally there would be a sense of deep despair and anger. The trauma for Obito was remarkably intense, and his ability to bounce back from adversities was nullified. Why? Because;
1) The intensity of the trauma, grief and loss
and
2) The safety net, safe space and sense of security that shielded him from the world’s adversities were gone. Obito had nowhere to go.
A lot of people would say: “but he had Minato,” “he had Kakashi,” “he had Kushina.” Yes he did, and they were kind to him (minus Kakashi, and I will get to him in a sec) but they only came into his life for a short period of time. Their interactions were not on an intense level as it was with he and Rin. People need to remember that Obito learnt his idea of safe attachment on his own and he latched onto Rin. He was never taught to do that with adults as he grew older. Naruto however, had Iruka, who most likely taught him a lot of things about the importance of the village, the importance of camaraderie, friendship etc Obito did not have this, so naturally, his ability to trust adults (even loving kind ones like Minato and Kushina) would take a lot longer or sit very tentatively. If there were conflict or adversity, he would run to Rin, or think of her because that was all he knew.
If you unpack Obito’s character, there were immense attachment issues and trauma that most likely transcended what Naruto had. Naruto had his fair share of trauma but he had support that allowed for some resiliency. Obito was NOT obsessed with Rin. He was not infatuated with her. He was psychologically intermeshed with her. This is very different from so called obsession and infatuation. Psychological intermeshment stems from traumatic upbringing in childhood (lack of nurturance from an adult caregiver, abandonment etc), and then again from losing their sense of security/safety (Rin in this case). Because Obito was so intermeshed with Rin, losing her was essentially losing himself - and he blatantly said this. He lost all hope when she died. So he did what he could to get that sense of security back, even if what he did was questionable.
Then you have the complexity of the curse of hatred that intertwines the storyline, which make things even more complicated. But this curse was what pushed the storyline and placed Obito as an antagonist. He did not start a war because of a girl. He started a war because he was angry with the way the world functioned. How the countless wars kept ending lives and taking loved ones away from people. He did not want people to go through what he went through. In essence, this mindset has villain written all over it, but it also compels a strong backstory for Obito because of his complex childhood upbringing and the trauma he experienced.
We move to Kakashi, who had his fair share of childhood trauma. But people need to remember that he had a father who provided that nurturing environment for him. Even if his father died in tragic circumstances, Kakashi, though traumatised, was able to bounce back and push forward with the support of his friends and village. He had an adult attachment figure (gosh I sound so social workey but this is how it is) where he learnt how to tackle adversities. Again, with the death of Rin, there was trauma there for him too. So why was it so different between Obito, Kakashi and Naruto? The latter two being able to bounce back and push forward but Obito lost control? It all comes back to childhood upbringing and the presence of an adult caregiver/mentor. That, and then again, the presence of the curse of hatred (which was why Sasuke was pretty fucked up despite coming from a loving family).
Something else I’d like to add re; Kakashi. He started being nice to Obito in that one episode where they were trying to locate Rin. He was a plain asshole before that. So technically the two of them were never on friendly terms before this event. Kakashi did not give two shits about anything aside from completing the mission. This is the reason why I do not ship Obito x Kakashi. To me there was no love, care and nurturing between those two. Obito “died” not long after being friendly with Kakashi, so that wouldn’t warrant a ship between those two. Whereas with Rin, it is a different story. Also, for those of you who thinks it is creepy that Obito has photos of Rin on his board, I’d be surprised if your 12-13yo self didn’t put love hearts of your crush over their school photos, or tested your marriage names together. Seriously.
So to summarise; Lack of childhood nurturance + lack of adult caregiver + trauma + curse of hatred = Obito
And like I said, just because of all this crap Obito’s been through, it does not excuse what he did or make what he did right (he was a villain after all).
Yeah okay rant over.
I’m open to discussion, but please keep it civil.

um would you pls spare some recs for the unhinged fics that u mentioned 🙏
WELL. Gird your loins my fellow freaks and get your eyeballs on these:
H. by Panlock (log-in required): this fic is like a punch to the face. Kakashi/adult Naruto, past Kakashi/Minato, super fucking dark but so so well done and scorchingly hot. This fic really got a visceral reaction out of me and I think of it often. MIND THE TAGS.
昼盲 by Yuelaine: Kakashi/OCs, team Minato ANBU AU. Warnings: noncon, gang rape. Bad things happen and Obito is forced to watch. The translation is imperfect but the suffocating atmosphere and despair really comes across. This author does unhinged angst incredibly well.
饲虎 by ururuparkinglot: Kakashi/shadow mizukage Obito. ANBU Kakashi is captured; Obito keeps finding novels ways to torture him. Warnings: extremely dubious consent, heavy BDSM, unfinished on a cliffhanger. There's a modicum of plot but let's be real, this is pure id shit and it is glorious. The translation might be iffy at some points but definitely worth the read.
That's it for now but please share your recs too! I like fluff and romance but I need that dark shit to feel alive.

deception. | Obito/OFC
Summary: In which Akari and Obito share an ANBU squad and an irreplaceable bond. Their relationship escalates to new heights, even with her commitment to Shisui.
Pairing: Uchiha Obito/Nara Akari + Uchiha Shisui/Nara Akari
Rating: Mature | Explicit
Word Count: 1333
Content warning for infidelity + vaginal sex
Author’s Note: yeah this is. yeah.
Part 01 of 02
-----
It would have been easier to rationalize it if he'd treated her poorly. Ignored her or left her behind, stopped being affectionate or locked his heart away. A flimsy excuse for infidelity, perhaps, but a small tether to grasp to when she drowned beneath self-hatred.
But Akari didn't have that. Shisui is as kind as ever, waking her in the morning with a kiss to her forehead. Still smiling away each time she catches his eye. Tells her to come home safe, each time she dons her mask and disappears to meet with her ANBU squad.
And she loves him, loves him so much it threatens to burst through her chest, some days. It feels almost like cruelty, really; that she loves him even as she readily betrays him.
She tries not to think about Shisui when Obito has her pressed against the wall, broad palms on her hips and mouth warm and eager on her neck. She doesn't have to remind him not to leave bruises in his ardent wake; they both know exactly what brand of terrible they are without any added verbal reminders.
There are some things they share that cannot be understood by any other. Akari will never fully grasp the connection between Shisui and Itachi, simply knows that it is stronger than nearly anything.
Stronger than Shisui's bond with you, her mind reminds her needlessly.
There isn't a name for what she has with Obito. Classmates, once upon a time. Friends and teammates. Something precious, something secret, something more. The missions they take in ANBU are leagues more dangerous and mentally taxing than what comes part and parcel for any other nin; their bond was forged in fire and blood and will not be easily broken. One cannot be in ANBU and not be supremely damaged; emotions run hot, the people on your squad you have to trust to be able to complete the mission, no matter the cost. Akari and Obito are both broken and yet find strength through one another, through helping each other stand and fight and keep moving forward. And somewhere along the way that utmost trust and reliance translated to affection.
She keeps telling herself the kiss was nothing. They've been running missions together for years; he's her friend, and on any given day she's already touchy with her friends. A kiss to remind one another that they'd survived, when the mission had taken a bloody and costly turn. A kiss is nothing; comfort and relief between two people who had already shared far more.
But then it happened again.
And again.
Before the mission, this time. Wandering hands, that time.
Again and again, until they're stumbling into his apartment in the middle of the night and she's pulling at his shirt and his mouth is at her neck and neither of them find the strength to stop.
He's incredibly touch-starved, desperate for approval and for love; and Akari has been a consistent presence of light in his life. There when he needs her, with gentle hands and lingering hugs. Whenever she leaves he finds himself missing her warmth and he knows, far too well, that it's wrong but -
But she's everything to him. Kind and welcoming, always the first to listen to what he has to say. And then when they kiss suddenly all he can think of is her. As though a missing piece had fallen into place; wrong as it is, he cannot deny how right it feels, to hold her in his arms and feel her tremble and sigh beneath him.
They're both addicted, they both hate what they're doing. An odd pair or the perfect match?
Obito's expression is achingly gentle, even with his hand holding tight to her neck. Her pulse is thunderous at the lack of blood from his squeezing fingers, mind swimming in pleasure as his hips snap forward, a thin gasp slipping past her parted lips with his every thrust. He fucks her like he means to ruin her, all deep thrusts and low growls from deep in his chest. He splays her open and takes what he needs, whispering filth in her ear and always making sure she reaches her peak before he does. It's always quick and messy and heated; a respite of lust and nothing more.
But his eyes -
Even glowing red they are kind, very nearly loving. Akari can hardly stand the sight of it, wants to yell and tense and cry out for him to stop, stop looking at me like that. She digs her heels into his ass, urging him faster when he slows, catching sight of the wide-eyed fear that paints her features. Obito's hand loosens from her throat, worry bleeding from him in waves. The sight of it makes her grit her teeth to prevent a scream from slipping out. She deserves nothing, least of all concern.
They've been teammates in ANBU for six years, friends for far longer. She can read his most subtle shift of expression, he understands her orders just by watching the way she flicks her hand. Entire conversations without saying a word; and this is no different.
His groin grinds low against her cunt, hips slowing until he pushes into her slow enough that she can feel every dragging inch inside her. He tilts his head to the side, fingers squeezing the sides of her neck twice. Good?
Akari nods her head in response, hands wrapping around him until she can drag her nails down the broad plane of his back, leaving burning scores of raised lines in her wake. She clenches hard around his cock at the sound of his hiss, and pulls him down until all she sees in his chest. Don't look at me like that.
His hand leaves her neck, palms laid flat on either side of her head as he presses his mouth to her forehead, breath fanning across her heated skin. He pulls out of her slowly, rocking back inside her dripping heat in the same unhurried pace that threatens to make her go mad. She doesn't need to see his face to know what he asks; refuses to face him even if she did. Look at you like what?
She grits her teeth and bites back a frustrated snarl; self-hatred thick in her tongue In a blink she digs her knee sharply into his side, shoving him to the left and rolling with him until she straddles his waist. Their switch in position makes him groan, hands moving to her waist to steady her. They remain joined, and when Obito watches her from flat on his back it is once more with that look of reverence.
Her breath stutters from her chest at the sight, and a part of her almost wants to hate him. Pin the blame on him, for making her feel cherished and special and wanted. A part of her has always known that he'd been besotted with her since they were teenagers, too kind and self-sacrificing to ever consider breathing a word of his feelings once she'd started seeing Shisui. She doesn't think she's using him, not in the traditional sense; but still she hates herself, the longer they hold eye contact as she begins to ride him.
Eyes squeezed shut, Akari throws her head back and drags her nails down his chest. He'll admire the marks she leaves privately as a badge of pride, the thought making her move faster. Her eyes open and she greets the ceiling with tears welling in her eyes, lip caught between her teeth the moment Obito's hand finds hers. Fingers entwined, gentle even as he shifts his hips and thrusts up into her. She squeezes his hand hard, still refusing to look into those deep dark eyes that remind her so much of the ones she sees when she wakes up every morning, her silent answer to his earlier question deafening in the silence.
Don't look at me like you could love me.

Note
I'm tempted to ask almost all from that ask list, but I'll try to keep it short :D
1, 7, 8, 9, 33, 48, 49 :D
If it's too much, just pick some of these and don't worry ^^ Hope you're having a good day!
-♥️
Oh my, hey there! Welcome back and thank you for sending in this ask! ;D My, they are a lot, but I sure as hell will answer them all ^^
1. When did you start writing?
I think I always wrote somehow. I vividly remember already writing fanfiction about a horse PC-game I played when I was younger, then I stopped for some time during High School and started up again when I started university classes. I had to commute and that commute was like... 3h every day, and you can only do so much reading ^^'' I started to write again and haven't stopped ever since. I think that was now seven years ago :)
7. Favourite writing advice?
Take whatever you can in. Just literally everything. When you look out of the window, sit in class and drown out the voice of your teacher, when you are on a walk with friends and inspect your surroundings. Everything can give you an inspiration.
That and write at least ten minutes every day. The exercise makes writing overall easier.
8. Favourite fic from another author?
Ooof, there are so many. But I think one of my favorite ones which left a lasting impression on me was "A Stranger" and its companion pieces by @loekas . I can't stretch that enough, their writing and planning is incredible, their perspective on the characters and how everything seamlessly flows together is absolutely mind-boggling. Not even to talk about the hot, steamy smut ;D When I read that fic I have to say, I was jealous for a moment in the way of "damn, I wish I had that idea first and wrote it" but then I took a step back and realized that their unique experience allowed them to create this wonderful piece of art and that I wouldn't be able to replicate that. In a sense, they have given me a good new, healthier perspective on my writing and the writing of others :) (Not to talk about that they're a wonderful human being ;D)
9. Favourite fanfiction author?
Again, there are so many! I will list some here:
@loekas - yet again, as their other fics for some lesser known fandoms are a delight to read as well
@lemony-snickers - I don't have to say much here, even though they deserve a whole novel written about them. Wonderful ideas, the writing is impeccable and I'm in love with their characterization of Kakashi.
@kinksandkurlsss - Listen, if you haven't read all their Kinktober entries, drop everything and read them now. Incredibly hot and kinky, always unique and so well thought out that I find myself hanging onto every word.
@whatshernameis - when I need a fix of Obito content, absolutely my place to go. I still hate myself for not having left any comments (yet, I take this tag as a reminder to myself to get off my butt). Their grasp on Obito's character is immaculate, the plot is always interesting, and again, the smut... Holy hell, I'm getting hot and bothered just thinking about it >-<
Otherwise, I read more fics than I read authors (if that makes sense?), and currently I have fallen once more into a deep Kakashi/Iruka hole ^^''
33. Do you receive hate for what you write?
If someone sends some hate my way, tumblr at least has the mercy to delete the asks from my inbox. Seriously, I think I was extremely lucky up until now to not have received any hate thrown my way apart from the very, very rare unluckily worded comment on AO3. But I also haven't written something controversial yet? But then again, there are people who receive hate for the most normal things, which is again extremely weird af. Idk, I just don't get hate, sorry.
48. How do you deal with coming up with titles?
Hah, I don't deal, I make them up on the fly and hope they somehow fit. For example, for my fic "Build A Close Connection" I hust thought it was funny at first because of the phone connection pun. Or "End My Loneliness", was for me a play of words, as both the Reader and Kakashi are lonely in their own ways, even though it might be less visible for Kakashi in this fic. Mostly, I make up titles when I sit in front of AO3 and stare at the empty bar for a few moments, before I come up with something xD
49. How do you deal with coming up with summaries?
Same thing as titles, I don't think much about them until I'm faced with cruel reality of having to write them in AO3. In summaries, I try to capture some of the spirit of a fic and give an insight on what readers can expect. Sometimes that might be a small snippet of the fic, sometimes I write a little excerpt, like a blurb on the back of a book of some sort ^^
Oh man, thanks for all these asks! Thank you so much, this was a lovely experience ^^ And sorry in advance to all the people I tagged.

Pairing prompt!
First kiss, kakaobi
First time seeing them cry, minaobi
First time waiting at their bedside, not sure if they will awaken, shikanaru
🥰
I really liked these. It got long, so I put them below the cut.
✂️✂️✂️
First kiss, kakaobi
It happens over the weekend.
They’re studying at their teacher’s house, shoes in the doorway, listening to the radio while they finish worksheets. Obito keeps glancing his way when he thinks Kakashi isn’t paying attention but those unblinking black eyes are impossible to ignore. He tries to make conversation, asking questions about their assignment to fill the air. The room feels small with Obito’s gaze fixed on his face.
Eventually Kakashi finds himself asking, “What? Something on my face?”
“No.”
“Then why are you staring?”
Obito’s answer is to stare some more.
A little perturbed, Kakashi puts his pencil down. “You’ve been acting weird all afternoon.”
“No I haven’t.”
When Kakashi turns to refute this blatant lie he’s looking into Obito’s eyes, because Obito has moved closer, taking up all of the space on the couch cushion beside him. When did he move? Kakashi is a little baffled as the sofa dips under his weight because Obito is never quiet and curious like this. He’s ever straightforward, direct with his desires, so obvious. Worry hiccups in his heart, a ripple in the calm of his cool exterior.
This close, Obito might be able to hear how quick his pulse is.
“You’re still staring.”
Obito’s mouth jerks into a smirk, a flash of something familiar, before a strange determination settles into his shoulders.
“Yeah. Does it bug you?”
He’s close enough to catch the way Kakashi’s breathing quickens. Black eyes flicker down to his mouth where the sunlight warms his skin, pale cheeks coloring slowly under his unblinking gaze. Obito’s eyes track all over his face as though he hasn’t spent their childhood learning it, hasn’t cracked his knuckles against the edge of Kakashi’s cheekbones or bashed foreheads during their fights as schoolboys.
He’s really close.
“Obito?”
Finally he blinks, glancing up through heavy lashes to find mismatched eyes watching him closely.
It’s easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission. Obito can’t make himself ask, the words stuck in his throat, and he surges forward before his nerve desserts him.
Kakashi jumps as Obito’s weight crashes into him, sending them both toppling back onto the couch together. Obito doesn’t stop kissing him the whole way down and it’s all Kakashi can do to keep kissing him back, mouth finally open, lips pressed together, a single whimper escaping before Obito drinks down the rest of his sounds.
There’s no time to describe how incredible it is. It isn’t anything like electricity in his veins or an explosion. Instead there’s a steady heat that seeps into his bones, radiating from the hands on his waist, the weight of Obito’s chest crushing them into the couch, the lips murmuring his name against his mouth, hot.
Kakashi has never felt so warm all at once.
His eyes flutter open (when had he shut them?) to find his best friend watching with the most anxious look.
“Was that okay?”
He’s terrified. Kakashi can read him with a glance (they’ve spent their whole lives learning how to) and knows Obito is afraid he’s fucked everything up.
“No,” Kakashi says once he’s caught his breath, once he’s certain his voice won’t shake. “No, that sucked.”
Obito flinches. But Kakashi has his collar in a grip because he knew Obito would try to run, grabs him tight enough to hurt, and makes sure his best friend is watching very closely when he continues pointedly, “Obito. You’re gonna have to do better than that—try again.”
First time seeing them cry, minaobi
“Hey, I’m home!”
The call from the front of the house has Minato scrubbing his face, quickly, because he wants to give his boyfriend a smile to come home to. It’s too late because Obito sets down the groceries and materializes beside him like magic. Warm arms wrap him up and the blonde gives up a watery smile.
“Welcome home.”
“What happened?” Obito wonders, worry in his baritone as he reaches up to brush away the water hastily scrubbed from his partner’s cheeks. “Minato?”
“Nothing. Ah, the groceries! We should put up the cold things…”
His words are interrupted by a hiccup he can’t swallow. Obito’s face is set and Minato is swept off his feet. He gets tucked into strong arms as Obito moves them deeper into the house. The blonde’s quiet protests go unheard as he’s carried bridal style to the bedroom. It’s there that Obito deposits him onto the bed.
“It’s nothing,” he tries to say, for Obito’s gloved finger to press against his mouth.
Just the look in his one good eye gives Minato guilt. He should know better; Obito hates it when Minato tries to hide things from him. Instead of putting on a happy face the older man accepts his pampering, letting Obito tuck him under the plush blankets of their bed. His blue eyes are still damp and Minato stops trying to hold back his sniffles.
“It’s not nothing,” Obito’s voice guesses quietly, “but you don’t have to talk about it now. For now, just let it out. I’m here for you.”
Obito learns that he hates watching Minato cry. The helplessness that fills him up eats away at his guts, claws at his heart as he watches his most precious person sink into a mire of tears and little soft sobs. He doesn’t cry loudly, no screaming or wailing. Minato cries softly, like he has to keep it inside and bottle it.
It does give him the opportunity to cuddle the blonde close. He doesn’t care how wet his turtleneck gets. Minato tries once to not smear snot and tears against his clothes; Obito presses gently but firmly until the other man’s face goes back to the flat of his chest. Obito’s gloved hand finds Minato’s to hold while his other cards through blonde spikes, stroking soothingly.
It doesn’t matter why in this moment why Minato is sad. Obito is here for him, for the first time he’s been allowed to see Minato cry, to comfort him. He lets his lover vent quiet sobs into his chest, letting the emotion run its course.
Later, once all his tears are spent up, Minato will say thank you, with a kiss to the corner of Obito’s contented smile, and Obito will scold Minato for not relying on him sooner.
First time waiting at their bedside, not sure if they will awaken, shikanaru
“It’s going to be a while,” Sakura warned. “He breathed in so much poison…”
“I’ll wait,” Shikamaru said firmly. “I want to be here when he opens his eyes.”
Naruto on the bed breathed in slowly, ragged, through three different tubes. The sight made Shikamaru’s own breathing tight. Naruto always healed, everything, but for once it was taking…
“A long, long time,” Sakura had repeated on her way out the door, “No smoking inside. Please.”
It was the last thing he’d heard for nearly four days.
“Shikamaru? Shikamaru, earth to Shikamaru!”
“I said what,” he snapped, turning from the bed for the first time in five days. He stood up straighter at the sight of the Hokage in the doorway. “Sir.”
“At ease, soldier,” Kakashi sighed. “And drop the sir. It’s temporary. Just like this.”
His eye tracked to the figure on the bed. Shikamaru turned his gaze back as well. It wasn’t like he needed to look. By now he had the lines of Naruto’s sleeping face carved into memory. Those three scar marks on each cheek. The unnatural stretch of his mouth around breathing tubes. The slight bags under each eye.
“All his superficial wounds have healed,” the Hokage’s voice said needlessly because Sakura had said the same thing two days ago, “All that’s left is for the poison to finish circulating. Once it’s out he should be up and back to active duty.”
Shikamaru looked up sharply. Kakashi met his confrontational gaze with a cool look.
“It’s what he’d want,” Kakashi said quietly.
In Naruto’s defense. Because that’s what he would want. Shikamaru smirked.
“Of course he would. He will.”
“We need you on rotation.”
Shikamaru’s smirk fell away.
“I won’t leave his side.”
“We need you,” Kakashi repeated, his voice firm and his gaze uncompromising. “I can give you forty-eight hours but there are others who need relief.”
Shikamaru couldn’t deny the Hokage outright but it was the first time his mind was already plotting four different ways he could leave behind a clone or trade shifts to get out of duty. His shoulders squared, Shikamaru let his gaze fall to the floor, and he nodded once.
A hand landed on his shoulder.
“He’ll be here when you get back.”
It turned prophetic: Naruto was still in the hospital bed when Shikamaru returned from active duty to be at his side. He tracked down Shizune straight away, nerves driving him to put a hand in his pocket, resting against the pack of cigarettes he wasn’t allowed to smoke inside.
“How much longer until he regains consciousness?”
Shizune looked started first, then apologetic.
Shikamaru frowned.
“Oh. Haven’t they told you yet?” She said.
He made himself stay and listen (even though it couldn’t be true) and thanked her for filling him in. Stiffly, he went outside and let himself smoke for the first time in nearly two weeks. The harsh crackle of nicotine burned through him, ripped apart the walls around his heart he’d built up against the suspicion that lurked in the back of his mind.
Naruto might not wake up.
Impossible, because he’s the jinchuuriki. They wouldn’t let their not-so-secret weapon lie in a coma even if there was no other option. Konoha would find a way.
Except they couldn’t.
Even Tsunade and Orochimaru combined had been forced to admit defeat. Any further experiments were denied by the Lord Sixth Hokage due to their unethical nature and Shikamaru shook off the tremble in his hand as he lit a second cigarette.
He took the longest, deepest drag he could before crushing it on his way back inside.
Naruto would want to see him when he woke up—if he woke up—
Shikamaru shook his head. Naruto wouldn’t want him to think like that. Naruto wouldn’t want him to worry, the stubborn guy, wanting the best for everyone around him, not giving a damn about himself, reckless, a little clueless, stupid, selfish, wonderful, bright, shining and smiling and stealing Shikamaru’s senses with one look.
Despite the pounding of his heart Shikamaru managed to snort a laugh. That guy.
The nurses gave him pitying looks as he walked back into the room and took up the same seat that bore his weight for a week straight before.
It didn’t matter. He’d be there.
