What modern movie would you love to zip back in time to be "rebooted" in Old School style?
Oh incredible ask. I'm not super knowledgeable on modern movies but let's have fun pretending that via time machine, we are now getting:
Avengers: Endgame (1963)
After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (1962), the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, Captain America (Burt Lancaster), Iron Man (Dean Martin), Thor (William Shatner), the Incredible Hulk (Paul Newman), Black Widow (Nancy Kwan), Hawkeye (Peter Falk), Black Panther (Sidney Poitier), Captain Marvel (Natalie Wood), Spider Man (Frankie Avalon), and more assemble again in order to restore balance to the universe.
Jurassic World (1943)
A sequel to Jurassic Park (1993), a movie that hasn't yet been made, this movie sees the creation of a genetically modified hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus Rex (modeled by Willis O'Brien), which escapes containment and goes on a killing spree. Joel McCrea stars in the Chris Pratt role; Barbara Stanwyck is Bryce Dallas Howard.
Frozen (1957)
Eyvind Earle brings the same angular, medievalist touch that he would use with such great success on Sleeping Beauty to this beautifully hand drawn classic. Pearl Bailey voices Elsa, the wounded snow queen, with Dorothy Dandridge as Anna, Rock Hudson as Kristoff, and Sterling Holloway as Olaf.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (1931)
Four teenagers are sucked into a magical Kinetoscope, and the only way they can escape is to work together to finish the short film. Their magical avatars are Dr. Bravestone (Noble Johnson), Moose Finbar (Bill Robinson), Ruby Roundhouse (Anna May Wong), and Dr. Sheldon "Shelly" Oberon (Claude Rains).

Content warning for mentions of death and crime under the cut.
Format: Heroic Spirit [line "vibes"]
I already wrote a line for this Heroic Spirit but I wanted to include my ideas anyway
Lines I Want To Include For Certain:
Mephistopheles (of course!) [I would die for you. I cannot fathom doing anything else.]
Summer Mephistopheles [meta rejoicing]
Pretender Mephistopheles [Stages 1 and 2: absolute panic and rage; Stage 3: please don't ever do anything like that again!]
Snow Queen ["Perhaps I was always meant to be an Avenger..."]
Kiichi Hogen/Demon King Oda Nobunaga ["There's someone like me here...? 🥹"]
Sessyoin Kiara/Kama [something downtrodden about love, idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯]
Ashiya Douman [(breaking bad voice) "you are not a clown, you're not capable of being a clown"]
Oberon [something vague about being willing to destroy everything for someone you love (I may be fundamentally misunderstanding Oberon tho)]
Lines I'm Not Sure of Because I Feel Like Making Too Many Would Be Annoying
Pygmalion [bonding over how much they freaking LOVE their respective partners]
Moriarty ["aw HELL yeah, crime grandpa is here"]
Oda Nobukatsu [(self-appointed) protective older sibling instincts activate!! ...only for chaos to immediately be brushed off...]
Elizabeth [friend!! friend who deserves all the kindness!! can i hear you sing, please?]
Jeanne Lily [Mom Mode Activated™️]
Alexander ["you are also my little brother now, I've decided"]
Babbage [views him as a mentor figure bc chaos spent waaaay too much time on the computer before becoming a Master]
Lancelot (Berserker)/Henry Jekyll/Antonio Salieri ["I am just... so fucking sorry."]
Gorgon [some heartfelt shit where chaos makes a point to call her "Medusa" instead]
Taira-no-Kagekiyo [I'd want her to view Yoshitsune as a mom figure but I don't know enough about her to know if that's locked behind Stage 3 or not]
The Calvin Fischoeder Pseudoservant of John King Fisher who I made for an elaborate AU
Putting together a list of ideas for some of Foreigner!Bruce’s My Room Servant lines.
Would anyone like to see them?

while compiling a list of the inspirations behind kaeya i've found not one, not two, but THREE stories in which someone is stuck in a dreamlike state
midsummer night's dream (not going to explain again, he's that indian changeling prince, oberon = alberich etc)
the snow queen (his constellation frozen kiss references the snow queen kissing KAY on head, kay had to spell out eternity with icicles = kaeya's burst and CN voice line, also both kaeya and kay had eye related injuries)
don quixote (don quixote saw windmills as giants. in his sq, kaeya put giants as code for windmills in his riddle.)
like what's going on here 🤨 is he rejecting reality and substituting it with his own? like a certain prinzessin?
Sailwind Shadow Let's fabricate a fairytale, and weave heroes, legends, and beautiful fantasies together, just like each time before, and give children a dream to dream.
About Kaeya (CN) Fischl: The reality that cannot be seen through, the karma that cannot be discerned, the mad interweavings of reality and illusion... Perhaps that person and I are alike, shouldering the fate of the "demon eye"...
if that wasn't enough, pierro seems to be referencing a musical based on don quixote, man of la mancha, in arlecchino's character story (which makes sense since he's always pushing for the "virtue of folly"):
Pierro: "Rather than dwelling on how the world is now, you should consider to where it should go."
which reminded me of:

two dnd characters i’m playing concurrently right now are
Gavin Snow, a “changeling” bard who is actually the archfey Oberon who was stripped of his powers by his mother/the queen of Winter, Mab, and has spent the last 70 or so years galavanting around in the guise of a half-elf and having a very bad time of being mortal
The Lady Aerowen, an “elven” wizard who is actually a unicorn who got The Last Unicorn-ed by a wizard who was paid by a lord to get rid of her for him because he wanted to hunt on her land, like, two centuries ago, and as the wizard aged and lost his memory he kinda forgot that the whole niece thing was a cover story he told to other people and started thinking she was actually his niece and was teaching her magic until he died, and now she’s trying to find a way to un-The Last Unicorn herself
and i did this back to back so now i feel like my group is gonna start expecting me to keep playing guys who are secretly other things

Wait so when Paracelsus made a snow cone from Void’s Dust it tasted like grape but when Oberon made this Void’s Dust tastes like table salt…
Either Paracelsus is a goddamn miracle worker or it’s not even real Void’s Dust in there, just purple shimmery table salt.

🍜🌦️😈
Food: Probably okonomiyaki! Specifically pork/mochi/cheese + runny egg topping if the place offers that combination.
Weather: I am a certified summer hater and winter fan so I like whenever it’s cold enough to need multiple layers and it’s overcast, cos I get headaches from sunlight and don’t like my skin exposed. I guess late autumn weather in my climate is the ideal. One of my favourite things ever is eating really yummy hot food (like soup or miso ramen) when it’s freezing cold/snowing outside (also why Hokkaido is probably my favourite place although you didn’t ask)
3. Little meow meow: I gotta admit I feel like this term has changed a bit because I always thought it was the same as blorbo but that’s separate. I don’t know if any of my faves meet the criteria. I think that a little meow meow needs a certain degree of patheticness, which means Oberon possibly qualifies, but specifically in his miserable Vort summer form, because this specific face I can’t get enough of and still think it’s hilarious that it’s the one they use for his battle portrait
Tumblr media
But if a little meowmeow specifically needs to be an older guy then probably Nanu or Larry Pokémon (Kabu doesn’t seem pathetic enough)

sorry...begu of jp fandom works are too good... i have to say my thoughts..!!
The girl who is the Last Master of Pan-human history and the Insect of the Abyss, Winter Prince and Great Liar of the recent short story of Kairi. I love their dynamic in this story too much. Fujimaru Ritsuka is a Master. Oberon wanted to destroy the 'Last Master of Panhuman history in his own way. That title alone entails to many things...such as concern for her 'first time', her body, her mind, and her future.
And Oberon saw all this in the short work. Her fear of her first time being taken instead by monsters and other creatures that would leave her scarred more than she already is, her thinking of Oberon having to take it instead being the better option, her habits and her skill of learning fast, no doubt because of her experience, her body that she was conscious of, to which oberon only stroked her scars which ritsuka only smiled and laughed because his silent response instead of saying something that will twist his words with his curse.
Ahhh I also really loved that part where when he touches her chest, its not automatically linked to sexual feelings...rather, she was so used to medical exams that the sensitivity was different. And that links to her experience as Master of Chaldea. And his goal for that night was to destroy her. Reduce her to a 'woman' and a person named Fujimaru Ritsuka. Not some grand hero with the title of Last Master of Panhuman History. And that angered him so much!!! It was disgusting!!! He wanted to break that mask!! And erase the pressure of being Master in her eyes.
I love that detail of covering them both with a blanket. To trap Fujimaru Ritsuka in before she could slip away from his grasp and be replaced with nothing but Master. It's too much. I like it too much...   I also love seeing her express fear but not for taking her 'first time' but fear for falling into pleasure and letting go of the role of 'Master'. Too good!!!! Also the aphrodisiac made should have affected her severely or should have broken her, but the 'Master' was still there. Seeing through Oberon so easily with his actions, calling him a bad person yet someone who was kind at the same time. Even after he finished inside her, the brillance of her golden eyes didn't fade. Like a star in the night.
At Mike's tavern, to see him surprised is too good!!!AHHH!!! You haven't broken the Master yet. She will pretend in front of others no matter what. As long as she breathes, as long as she is alive, even if she was defiled, the 'Master' will perfectly play her part in the stage. With that 'Master' as the leading actor because that was what everyone wanted and needed, the woman who was 'Fujimaru Ritsuka' would slowly disappear from his reach.
www Page six...the moment of realization was the best. After that, was even more "best" than ever. I'm sorry I loved the story too much. The dream that Oberon sees is where he realizes he and Ritsuka are the same. He was the one who had been waiting for thousands of years, waiting for a human to defeat Cernunnos even before the prophecy. The realization of her having her own abyss match his, her as a destroyer of worlds, his predecessor even... Them having the same 'role'. Fujimaru Ritsuka who could fully understand Oberon, just as Oberon fully understood her. This girl who had to keep going forward in the vast expanse of snow with nothing to rest on nor warm herself with, this girl who was bloodied, this girl who no longer has a place in proper human history. His realization of his feelings for her was the best. His realization that he has someone like him made both me and him happy. www I have more feelings but i have to stop here www

You've probably answered this lots before, but: do you have a fairly clear hierarchy of favourites among the Royal Ballet principals? And your favourite role or two for each? :-) Also: of the recent retirees, who would you most like to see guesting?
Also a) thank you so much for obtaining the info that it'll be Nela and Ball for that "Winter's Tale" stream! Partner and I have got our tickets booked to see it at the Cineworld in Aberdeen. <3 It's the ballet that got me properly back into ballet, when I watched it during lockdown, and just: yay. :-)
And b) your blog has just been so lovely and helpful in growing my ballet knowledge! And your gifs are superb, and your Matthew Ball love is validating. :D
Also also: do you have any favourites among the Scottish Ballet dancers? I was lucky enough to see "Cinders" on tour, and I was so impressed with both Bruno Micchiardi (as Cinders) and Jessica Fyfe (as Princess Louise), but I am no expert.
I think someone asked me for a ranking of all the principals some time ago, but I can't even find the post anymore; I don't mind one bit answering this again! <3
If I have to talk strictly about my faves, it goes like this:
Nunez (eheh!): if have to narrow down her most iconic roles I have to give you at least three (please bear with me, I'm doing my best), which are O/O, Kitri and Aurora.
Takada: Titania and O/O. I'm just so very sorry that she's been more injured than not lately. I miss her.
Hayward: Juliet and any Ashton role I can think of (rhapsody, enigma variations, those bits of Titania we got, etc.). I also think she makes one of the best Claras out there.
Kaneko: O/O (saw her live in the BS pdd and the White Adagio with Vadim and it was life changing, bye). Also her Gypsy girl in the two pigeons is iconic. Special mention for her Aurora.
Lamb: Manon. Signature role. Was born to play it. I also really love her Mary Vetsera and her Aurora.
I'm a bit uncertain if I should include Anna Rose or not...sometimes I really love her, but overall I'd like her to be more consistent. But I'll say she was born to play Juliet.
Muntagirov: he's more versatile than people give him credit for, and really has the whole package, but I'd say his best roles are Siegfried and De Grieux.
Ball: he's such an outstanding actor that it's hard to choose, but I'm going with Romeo and Albrecht.
Bracewell: another wonderful Romeo right here, and I was blown away by his Hamlet in the Ashton insights.
Mcrae: Oberon and Rudolph for sure.
Sambè: sorry to repeat myself but we have another great Romeo right here. From what I've seen he makes also a great Colas.
As for retirees, the one that I really wish was still performing is Roberta Marquez, though maybe she isn't exactly a recent one. Out of the most recent ones I only miss Federico Bonelli because he always brought something special to his performances, although I have to say that the struggles and limitations that come with age were very visible in the last couple of years (his Siegfried variation in the SL cinema relay with Takada comes to mind).
As for the winter's tale I'm really happy to see someone who appreciates it as much as I do! I think it's a truly lovely ballet, one of the few modern classics that really stuck with me. You're very welcome for the info and I hope you'll have a great time at the theatre...unfortunately I found out that it won't be streamed in my country, so I'm going to miss out on it 😤
Thanks for all your lovely compliments they're more appreciated than I can say! 😭🩵🙏
Scottish Ballet is one of those companies that I wish had more footage available, because bits I do get to see are really impressive. I'm kind of familiar with Constance Devernay, Bethany kingsley-garner and Andrew Peasgood because I've seen them in the recordings of The Fairy's Kiss and The Snow Queen, and I seriously enjoyed those performances!
I wish there was a full recording of Cinders because both the trailer and the rehearsal look amazing! Jessica Fyfe is a really delicate and expressive dancer from the clips I've seen of her, and both her and Micchiardi impressed me in the rehearsal poste on YT, cause the intentions and mannerisms in their dancing were so clear: I immediately caught up on the reversal of Cinders gender and that she was the princess even though I hadn't read about the novelty introduced by this production beforehand, but everything was immediately clear thanks to their attention to detail.
The little I've seen from this company makes me wish for more!

You know when Oberon and Titania are reimagined in more modern fairy adaptation stuff they're often roped into the idea of like the summer/winter court concept and I don't hate that idea, but all of them seem to adapt Oberon as the Lord of the winter Court as part of his like Lord of Shadows like evoking the idea of wintry darkness whereas Titania gets to be like summer sunlight and that's not at all bad. Like I don't think that like focusing on the idea of them is contrasting forces is at all a bad one but I feel like if I were to do that I would like sort of reverse it and have Oberon be the Lord of the Summer Court but instead focus on the idea of like shadows as associated with like summer thunderstorms while Titania's like Lady of Light idea focusing more on the idea of like sunlight reflecting off of snow. Although I will also say that when Oberon gets called Lord of Shadows, I think that's more because of all fairies association with the dark and the night like he is the Lord of Shadows because he is King of the Fairies which are creatures of shadow not because he has any special association with shadows or darkness personally. And lake Titania has absolutely no associations with light at all besides like a few moonlight references in her general vicinity which you could try to spin out into something, but I don't think it's there. Like overall, Oberon is much more texturally associated with thunderstorms and fog like the tempestuousness of him. You know? And I think like associating him with Summer and her with winter does complicate it a little bit because like while Titania is the more benevolent of the two and Oberon is definitely more malicious in the text there are moments that do complicate it for the both of them and I think like complicating it and making it so they're both more alien and removed is a smart way to do it and like having Oberon be associated with like summer which is generally a positive thing in the collective imagination and Titania being associated with winter which is generally a negative thing in The collective imagination like I don't think like making him be the more villainous persona is at all like unfounded or a bad idea, but I think it should be more complicated than he's the Evil Winter guy and she's the Good Summer lady you know?
