Wanted: Black man, age 30s to 60s. Please don’t audition if you’re younger than 25 or so! You’d be playing a spy/soldier type character, but not a super typical one. It’s complicated, so just be yourself. The part commitment is flexible and can range from a couple of lines to a larger role.

Hi! I saw your post wanting recommendations for podcasts to review, and I was going to suggest Oakpodcast! They mentioned in their last ep they randomly got some 1 star reviews, but the reviews didn’t leave any feedback as to why they disliked it. Maybe your followers who listen could leave helpful reviews?

Representation:  Religious (Jewish), Autistic, LGBTQIA+ (wlw, a-spec, nonbinary), Homeless, Disorder (PTSD), Addiction, Survival sex worker

Their Importance: Holly is a complex character with a lot of intersectionality, but in a subtle yet canon way. She's just a regular person, but a spy/hacker, she's just not a typical straight white guy in that role. It's a pretty accurate portrayal of PTSD, homelessness/poverty, and abusive relationships.

Issues: The story is very focused around rape in the military and there is some victim/addict blaming and ableism from other characters, but the show doesn't treat them like they're right. The creator is Jewish but the other two actors are both white.

Hey Holly! How's it going?

Good, thanks! I made an update in... December? (Holy shit), but it never got approved, and I haven’t had time to censor more out of it and resubmit. I’ll try to do that soon. But a lot has happened since then, too. I’m too tired to go into much detail, but I can say a few things.

Spoilers under the cut.

Ivy will be 9 months old in a few days—is that as completely nuts to anyone else as it is to me? Things are still rough. She was almost 6 months before she could hold her head up, and she only recently started rolling over. I have a tight, painful stress-knot in my stomach most of the time from worrying about whether it’s okay she doesn’t crawl or baby talk at 9 months, and then I feel guilty for being so stressed that she’s not “normal,” and then my milk supply goes down from stress, so Ivy ends up in the hospital again, which means more stress.

It’s not all bad, though. I’ve learned how to cook a little. I’m brushing up on my more office-y coding skills so I can get a civilian job in a few months. Leia is an amazing babysitter. We have marginally fewer screaming episodes around here. Sometimes I get a full night’s sleep. And I got The Emperor’s Hand from Ultra Sabers as the best belated Valentine’s Day present ever, so my best stress release has been beating the shit out of Tom while he yells, “Please, Miss Jade, have mercy!”

All in all, could be worse. Still dependent on others for financial stability, which isn’t my preference, but not being homeless makes things a lot better. Uh, how’s it going for you?
