sean doesn't know why when he hangs out with adam, he only hangs out with adam. he hasn't let himself think about it. how similar it is to the time he spent with nyla. he's considered inviting sutter, barnes, otis. magda, rowan, and sloane maybe, if he didn't think they'd be falling all over him; which, hey, sean's a considerate guy. he doesn't want adam to have to deal with that.

that's definitely why his skin buzzes when their legs meet. why sound collapses around his ear drums for a moment, circuits shorting and his smile twitching slightly. he's watching adam the whole time - more frozen with anticipation than fear - sees the smile that gets buried into the table top, the moment a wisp. "don't get any funny ideas. my wife won't like it," sean chastises as soon as the bartender is out of earshot. small bars like these were great, until the regulars started talking about your visits.. always in the back. always alone. and why doesn't he invite his friends again?

he lifts his beer to rid himself of the question. "to end the night in your arms!" sean jokes, clinking their glasses to distract from how it's not a joke, not at all, how it's happened before and it'll happen again and suddenly he's dizzy. has to palm his knee to ground himself, tapping his foot against adam's. human contact. everything's fine. "so, you seeing anyone lately?" oblivious to the fact that, technically, they've both been seeing an awful lot of each other lately. "i feel like a dude like you has to be rolling in it." and some worm like hand motions don't help to clarify what it exactly even is.

the truth is that adam only really drinks around sean. this seems a noteworthy piece of the puzzle to adam - and it is a puzzle to adam, just as most things are. this one is unique in that adam does not dread what will happen if he does not see the whole of the moment he is in. his eyes may dart around rooms looking for off hour disasters, but in those fleeting touches (and the extended ones) in which adam forgets the outside world, adam forgets that he is a creature of fear. his lack of omnipotence feels, in those hours and seconds, like a kindness rather than an oversight. adam is unused to trusting a person, but has found he likes it. it had to catch him unawares, but it caught him, and while adam's live wire nerves have not been totally domesticated - never will be - they are happy in their place.

that adam's happiness is tentative out of habit is irrelevant, except when it occurs to adam that his energy might give sean the wrong idea. but it hasn't yet - because, at least in some respects, they are alike.

"i like hearing you ask," he says. expression is almost a smirk now, but doesn't quite make it there. his eyes dart sean's way and stay there, sharing the joke for what it is. "but you're right. you don't have to ask twice."

they tumble into their booth, adam arranging his legs under the table and accidentally (though it is no great loss) brushing sean's under the table. this pulls a smile from adam, though the smile is directed at the surface of the table, and is gone by the time the bartender reaches them.

their drinks arrive. adam tends toward beer; tonight is no exception. he puts his hand around the condensation and sits in the quiet until sean breaks it, and adam looks up.

"to migraine evasion," is adam's answer. and then he smiles again, quiet but there, and this time in view. "sure. hell, i'll carry you to the car. but i think that's cheating, since your feet'd be leaving the ground."

sean makes them think of that artificial blue raspberry flavour some popsicles have n how it’s always rly fun when they stain ur tongue. sweet n exuberant n leaves a bright impression. he lets them ride on his skateboard sometimes rolling along being lead by them holding his hand n nyla likes to shut their eyes like they’re a bird sailing above the clouds. one of their favourite things to do especially when the sun’s out. bc of this nyla thinks sean was a bird in his past life but not a greedy one like a seagull or a plain one like a pigeon. maybe a bluebird bc of his eyes. he makes them laugh a lot. they entrusted him to babysit their children (as pictured) in his hair for a whole day and night once n they had lots of fun with him so nyla thinks he’s very trustworthy and kind. he also is rly easy to talk to like they cld randomly be like “i’ve been thinking lately that maybe homer simpson could’ve been a good figure skater” n sean wldn’t look at them like they’ve lost their marbles he’d just go w it. they like his company a lot.

ummm nothing in particular altho one time when they were rly tripping out bc his eyes are blue n it got them thinking abt the ocean n they always think they can talk to ghosts underwater so they were kind of like. thinking abt ghosts whenever they looked him in the eyes. maybe covered their own w their hands n if sean asked why they told him abt it. suddenly he shut his eyes to make them feel better n it turned into a whole thing where nyla had to lead him around the party like a guide dog.

Genny Bradford. Gah, I freaking LOVE HER. She always brings SO MUCH to the story when she's involved. I can't stop freaking out over how Tim acts and develops when she is around. MAJESTIC. Plus, I just really like her.

It occurs to me that Gus Van Sant's first feature, Mala Noche, has something in common with his best-known and most commercially successful films, Good Will Hunting (1997) and Milk (2008), both of which earned him Oscar nominations (and won Oscars for, respectively, actors Robin Williams and Sean Penn): They're all about dispossessed young men. Harvey Milk manages to overcome the political stigma of being gay, but is gunned down by a homophobe. Will Hunting emerges from South Boston as a mathematical savant, but never quite overcomes the feeling of being out of place. And Walt, the protagonist of Mala Noche, is a gay man living apparently by choice on Skid Row in Portland, working as a janitor and as a clerk in a tiny liquor store that mostly sells cheap hooch to winos. It's pretty clear that Walt (Tim Streeter) is not much for impulse control: The object of his obsession, Johnny (Doug Cooeyate), with his long dark eyelashes and full lips, looks like a cross between Mick Jagger and a Pre-Raphaelite angel, and Walt pursues him relentlessly. Unable to get Johnny to sleep with him, Walt goes for proximity -- having rough sex with Johnny's friend Roberto (Ray Monge).  Van Sant intentionally withholds much of Walt's backstory: We suspect from his good looks and affable, articulate manner that he comes from middle-class origins, so his slumming and his frustrated erotic obsession look like a kind of masochism. Mala Noche is no masterpiece, but it's a fascinating work of first-film ultra-low-budget ingenuity, with its location shooting, its high-contrast black-and-white cinematography, and its plausible performances by actors who were then unknown and have pretty much remained so.

I have 2 theories : Either he will be an accomplice of the serial killer who’s going to try to deceive Lucy.

Or, it’s the beginning of the love triangle they talked about but that we have yet to see...
