Introducing: Time

Time is another fanmade NWTB ego of mine! He’s the counterpart of Arbiter, and is based on Nate’s Songs of Time album. The primary song he’s based on/I get the most ‘feel’ of Time from is Hero of Our Time!

His explanation for name, his backstory and his powers are below the cut!!

Name: I named this ego Time, since the title of the album is literally “Songs of Time” and one of the songs on it is “Hero of Our Time.” I thought that that fit him a lot, and I also was considering Courage or just Link, but I thought Time was better. 

Backstory: Time comes from the same alternate Legend of Zelda universe that Arbiter is, and was also transported to the ego’s universe with Arbiter (although Arbiter didn’t know that until they met again at the Battle ego’s home.) He has fought Arbiter many times, and has mostly won. Time was distraught when Arbiter won against the royal family of Hyrule and became the King, but thankfully they were transported to the ego’s universe a few weeks after. He’s pretty much identical to Link except for his looks, and that Time does speak. 

Powers: Time is a very good fighter, particularly with swords and bows. Time can do flurry rushes and bullet time like BotW & TotK Link, and Time also has Link’s inventory ability, meaning he can put pretty much anything in his pockets and take it out for later use. He does have access to the Champion’s abilities from BotW, so he has Mipha’s Grace, Revali’s Gale, Daruk’s Protection and Urbosa’s Fury. I wanted to make him pretty much equal in power to Arbiter, although I would say out of the two Time is weaker.

Oh.

Oh, buddy.

Oh I get to talk about Natewantstobattle and you will regret this.

So! I'm not a NWTB expert so don't expect a full bulletpoint presentation BUT I can share my experience!

Natewantstobattle is a nerdcore turned original artist who made songs about video games, anime and cartoons for years and only recently (last year I think) decided to leave nerdcore behind and focus entirely on original music.

He's made some BANGER songs, has the voice of an angel and seems to have the same enthusiasm about dark/demonic fictional imagery as myself ^_^

He's made a lot of FNAF songs which is how I found him. His music got him noticed by Random Encounters (RE) who make small-budget indie musicals based on video games and decided to make a five-part special musical based on FNAF for which they reached out to get Nate involved. He appeared and sang as a prominent character in that musical as well as plenty of others that they made. Markiplier was also in that musical.

Nate is popular with a lot of Jacksepticeye and Markiplier fans as his content focuses on similar games, leading to the same people finding him. Because of that, the fans' habit of making characters or "egos" for youtubers from their videos also extended to Nate and honestly while I still listen to his music I haven't been active in the fandom for a while so I have no idea how many egos there are now, but I'm desperate to rejoin the fandom space and catch up!

Anyway, the egos I'm very well aware of are Natemare and Phantom.

Haha yeah, he kidnapped Matpat for that music video.

The video in question is for Mangled, a 2~ minute song based on FNAF 2. The character he portrayed was an instant hit with the fans and was subsequently dubbed "Natemare" as a play on nightmare.

Also in 2018 Nate released a limited edition Natemare shirt thus confirming the name as canon and also I have that shirt so cough cough.

Secondly, Phantom!

MAN I LOVE PHANTOM!

From a music video for a song of the same name.

As far as I'm aware there's practically no canonically confirmed information about him other than he makes deals and steals people's souls. That lead to a lot of fans calling him a demon, including myself.

It took me five years to put together a cosplay for Phantom because I couldn't find one part! You'd think it would be the staff, right? Impossible to find an exact replica, right? No. It was the bloody shirt. I couldn't find a single freaking long sleeve red button up shirt for YEARS. I've got it now, though.

His original albums so far include Sandcastle Kingdoms, Paid in Exposure and To Let Go. That one is actually currently coming out one song at a time on his YouTube channel and music streaming platforms. There's only two songs out at the moment and I think the plan was to release them slowly until they were all released by the time the album itself dropped, but it was announced last month that it's been brought forwards to the 18th! That's in FOUR DAYS!!!! The last song to come out was Forgotten on Tuesday which is the one you saw me blogging about. It slaps so fucking hard you have no idea.

If you want any personal recommendations for his music, my favourites of his original work are Phantom, Forgotten, All I See, Perfect by Design and Branded.

PIf you look up Phantom you may see it titled as a Hazbin Hotel song but actually it came out a good while before Hazbin Hotel did, he just realised how well the character of Phantom matched with Alastor from HH and released a remastered version with some of Alastor's voice lines over it.

My favourites of his nerdcore songs are Mangled, No More, Stay the Course, Time to Move on and Ask for More. That last one is about Food Wars. I don't even watch that show, that's just how good the song is.

Oh! As an addition that I almost forgot to talk about, he's also a voice actor! He's appeared in Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail, he plays the main character in Luck and Logic and has appeared in multiple video games like Dream Daddy, Yandere Simulator and Monster Prom.

Time to talk/rant about our system for a moment because I feel like we don't do it enough :3

So we had a system reset two weeks ago, and we're working on getting everything back and 'working' again.

[fictive of Darkiplier] The temporary host, Sunflower, is an OG (was part of the first/original system), he used to be a little, but he grew up and is now an age regressor instead. He is now 15, which he's still getting used to (his age jumped from 3-5 to 15, so it was a big and sudden change). They're nonbinary (he/they/flower), and always have been, which is surprising, considering that usually our littles struggle to grasp the concept of gender. Flower's very smart for their age, and is extremely talented (writing, drawing, video editing).

[brainmade, fictionkin of Virgil and Roman Sanders] Then there's the system bridger (helps us communicate between the main system and subsystems), Quill/Aries, which uses they/them. They have only fronted once, and got front stuck instantly, which I find very interesting. They're also an information manager, which makes sense cuz they're the only one that can communicate between systems within our body. They're very kind and they *love* Minecraft.

[OCtive] Then there's the babysitter, Varyn (it/it's), who's just a chill teenager (17) who doesn't really like kids, other than Sunflower. It's a tall shadow creature with a lot of green eyes, which is super cool imo.

[fictive] Night (he/red/void), who doesn't have a role but is a chill dude who's fun to talk to. He plays Minecraft, mostly. He might be a hyperfixation holder.

[brainmade] Nameless (xe/xey/kit/paw), who we've nicknamed Bunny cuz xe has white bunny ears in the headspace. Xey're also role-less, but they hope to become a protector after kit finishes figuring xemself out. Paw is also possibly our calico cat kin holder.

[fictive] Then there's god himself, DreamXD (it/he/god), who is our empathy holder and our in-sys protector, which is neat. He mostly fronts to listen to music or to play Animal Crossing/Minecraft/Human Fall Flat, which are his three faves.

Can we get headcannons of the NWTB egos with a reader who’s the embodiment of a child’s fear pretty pretty please 🥺

Oh, fine. But only because you added two "pretties" to your request, lol.

(Side note: I really only write for Phantom, Bones, and Natemare on occasion, so these will just be headcanons for them. I know Nate has more egos than these three, but these are the ones I have an actual attachment to.)

Since fear is such a complex thing, and since there are literally hundreds of phobias out there, we'll just assume that the reader is the embodiment of fear in general, just. . .specifically for kids, I guess.

Phantom

If you've read my stories about Phantom, then you know that I personally see him as an eldritch abomination. He wears a glamour to blend in with humans most of the time, but underneath said glamour, he's got all the qualifications. Body horror cranked up to eleven, mind-melting vibes, the whole shebang.

That being said, to compare an embodiment of fear to a creature like him is. . .interesting. Very, very interesting. On the one hand, you're partially the reason Phantom has his status as such a horrific monstrosity. Without fear, he might not have the amount of respect and power he's earned throughout the years.

On the other hand. . .well, he's the kind of thing that adults (humans and lesser-monsters alike) learn to fear one way or another. Although children are always more intelligent and observant than they're given credit for, they just can't exactly process things like Phantom. They can process fear itself, as well as nightmares/terrors, but they can't really grasp something so raw. Interacting with an eldritch creature means having to accept the unacceptable, to confront the fact that the universe is much more fluid and indifferent and wrong than it was already thought to be. And, thankfully, young minds that are so busy developing themselves can't face that stuff for a matter of time.

Anyway, on top of all the outer monstrosity stuff, Phantom is nothing if not a smug bastard. So, he'd definitely use the supernatural/cosmic hierarchy to poke some fun at you. Remember, a lot of his work focuses on stuff like greed or desperation and the like. Oftentimes, a lack of fear is what leads his clients to sign his contracts.

Even so, he'd still hold respect for you. Fear is a completely natural thing for humans; in fact, it's necessary for survival (see the previous passage). Children can use their fears to grow, to discover things about themselves. They can work hard to overcome their fears, and then feel proud and strong once they reach that goal. Even if they don't overcome their fears, they can still find ways to coexist with them. They can learn all sorts of things from their fears. They might draw inspiration from their fears to create art, or use their fears to try and protect others. The possibilities are endless.

Bones

As a revenant, Bones is all-too familiar with fear. It was one of the things to overwhelm him as he died, as well as when he entered the process of becoming undead. So, he'd admittedly act hostile toward you at first. (Not like that's too different from how he acts with pretty much everyone.) He may be supernaturally strong and technically immortal, but he's not invulnerable. Nowadays, fear is like a syringe to his pain. It makes his spasms worse, makes his heart and lungs burn, makes his brain swim.

Though he can't remember the majority of his past life, he can remember feeling fear in his childhood. And the lack of memories makes those feelings even worse, because he doesn't know what they were about, or what caused them, or, or, or. . .

Still, in a strange way, a child's fear can hold some portion of a child's innocence. (Keep in mind, this very much depends on circumstance.) And innocence is something Bones hasn't seen or felt for a very, very long time. Interacting with children's fears personified just might provide a brief window to it. That wouldn't really alleviate any of his pain, but it might make him feel calm for a few minutes.

If he were to form a legitimate friendship with you, he could potentially see you as a way to keep kids away from him. Which, in turn, would ensure that no children experience the pain he emits as a revenant. Yeah, Bones is spiteful and negative (and definitely sadistic in certain scenarios), but he's not enough of a monster to want to harm kids.

Natemare

If we're keeping the FNAF lore in mind, Natemare is something of a guardian to children, thanks to his ties with the Marionette. Due to that, he'd probably be wary of you at first. The ghostly kids he's cared for in the past were all most certainly scared in the last moments of their lives, and even more so during their afterlives.

Then again, part of Mare's care and guidance for those ghost-children was helping them terrify any living adults who could've been connected to their deaths. And since that's somewhat justified. . .well, it's complicated, but he can still sort of understand your role in the grand scheme of things.

Plus, like I said before with Phantom: fear has a positive side. It's the thing that can prepare kids for the world, help them grow, push them to be careful with the decisions they make. So, with that in mind, Mare would have some genuine respect for you. Perhaps there could be some kind of weird yin-yang scenario between the two of you.

So this is a headcanon within a headcanon I guess? NWTB egos, specifically Mare, but like-- I like to imagine that collectively, the battle beans just consider each other as a sibling pod. Some of them actually being related because why not, but mostly it's just. Mfs adopted each other, and I can so see all of them looking to Nate as a dad figure. Worth mentioning I reckon Mare's a whole-ass demon. It just fits somehow-- anyway- Scribble time. Here's how I reckon Mare started off referring to Nate as his parental figure. Completely by accident. In short: Nate accidentally used a dad-esque tone when scolding this dumbass, and Mare decides to run with it. -=-=-=-

“For fuck’s sake—” Twelfth time this week. Twelfth. God knows how many times he’d told that damned demon not to do exactly this, and yet, it was still happening. The yell was impressive, even for Nate’s standards. “NATEMARE, GET YOUR ASS IN HERE, NOW,” That probably wasn’t the demon’s actual name, but it worked. He answered to it, at least. The explosion of dark smoke, solidifying into a fairly tall, broad-shouldered figure – one with an annoyingly cocky smirk on his face – was infuriating confirmation of that. He gestured angrily at the mess left behind, and Mare arched his eyebrows slightly as if to say; ‘yeah, and?’ If it weren’t a terrible idea to punch the demon – something he’d found out by accident when the bastard jump-scared him into trying it. Nate didn’t fancy shattering his hand again, or he’d have tried to smack the smug look off of the idiot’s face himself. Then again, he also knew Mare’s reflexes were lightning-fast – he probably wouldn’t be able to land the hit anyway. “You’ve gotta stop doing this, man,” Nate complained, folding his arms, and glaring at the demon as he smirked, clearly not taking this seriously. Who knew a powerful, several-thousand-year-old entity would turn out to be such a little shit? Exasperation flared up, and without paying quite enough attention to his tone, he glared at the demon, trying to set a solid boundary. “You moved yourself into my place; you’re under my roof. Is it really so hard to respect my rules?” Oops. He’d really done it now. The demon hunched his shoulders, stuck his bottom lip out like a child, and adopted a surprisingly high-pitched whine, sounding almost exactly like a plaintive teenager.

Just a very short, very sweet, very direct, self-indulgent little drabble written to saitiate the headcanon gods. Do not expect greatness, but hopefully I can offer you a few moments of entertainment.

Headcanons used: Phantom can hear human heartbeats from afar. Phantom's heartbeat is unnaturally slow and has hypnotic qualities on humans.

Characters: Phantom (NWTB), and two of my own OC's called Micah and Keith.

Fandom: NWTB Egos/Battle Egos/Whatever people call them these days. They're practically OCs.

Warnings: Hypnotism/loss of consciousness and consent (NOT for sexual matters). Dark Magic. Soul selling.

“How can I ease your worries?” Phantom’s voice is silky, almost too sickeningly sweet as he bows down into his potential client’s view. His lips are curled with a confident smirk, but it takes a substantial amount of effort to keep his eyes from flashing red with the fiery heat of his magic thrumming beneath his skin.

The client - a young man named Micah - takes a breath. Beneath the clamor of the music and the whooping of the patrons dancing drunkenly in the club behind them, Phantom can hear the fluttery quick beat of Micah’s heart in his slender chest.

He’s here to make a deal for his older brother, a sickly man named Keith that means more to Micah than anything in the world.

Including, but not limited to, his own soul.

“How long will I get with him before you collect? How long will Keith stay healthy for? Will I ever be able to visit him from time to time just to make sure he’s okay? What if this doesn’t work - what if you’re just a scam -”

“Micah, please,” Phantom holds up a hand to silence the boy, and Micah’s lips smack shut almost comically. “You came here for a reason. You must know something of my reputation.”

In one quick motion, Phantom stands to his feet and tightens his fist around the glass orb fastened atop his cane. He watches as Micah jumps at the sudden movement, his fluttering heartbeat increasing in pace from what, exactly? The startle? Nerves? Anticipation?

Phantom does not have the patience to play with his food. The magic he possesses is almost a being of it’s own, begging to be freed from the confines of his human body. He needs to make a deal, quickly.

“Yes, but I -”

“Shh, shh. Do me a favor and close your eyes. I have a little something that might help ease you into the decision.”

Micah looks apprehensive, as he should, but he complies with Phantom’s orders and lets his eyes flutter shut with a weary sigh.

Hook, line, sinker.

“It’s a wonderful thing you’re doing for your brother. Don’t be scared.” Phantom steps closer to Micah, gently cupping the boy’s cheeks and guiding his ear down to the concave of his chest.

A shuddering breath leaves Micah’s lips as his ear makes contact with Phantom’s chest, but he doesn’t pull away.

He can’t.

“Tell me what you hear, Micah.” Phantom croons, running his perfectly manicured nails across the top of Micah’s scalp in a soft, soothing motion. He can already sense Micah’s consciousness waning to the beat of his inhuman heart.

“Your heartbeat.” Micah replies simply. His body is relaxing against Phantom’s, tense muscles slacking as the effect rushes through every nerve, every cell, and every drop of blood in his body. Phantom smirks.

“That’s right. And how does it sound?” He asks, his voice barely above a whisper at this point. He’s moments away from having Micah under his hypnotic control - he can’t misstep even remotely.

“Beautiful.”

Micah’s consciousness seems to slip from him with a simple exhale. Phantom releases his hold on the boy when he’s sure the hypnotism is locked in, urging him towards the quill and the unsigned scroll laying across the desk.

“Sign the contract, Micah.”

Elation builds in his stomach as Phantom watches Micah’s every move. The moment the ink hits the scroll, he can physically feel the magic rushing out of his pores; happily satiated with another soul. “Yes,” he says, as his eyes turn red and power surges through him in a burst of adrenaline. “Yes.”

In a moderate little home tucked safely away behind miles of trees and winding back roads, a human plagued with illness his entire life takes his first breath as a cured man. He knows not what brings his cure, or at what cost it comes -

But a young soul manifests inside of a glass orb at that very same moment, trapped and scared as it begs for mercy.

Phantom tilts his head back, and he laughs.

A/N: Random idea I got from a pinterest quote with the nwtb egos…enjoy! Also sorry if there are spelling errors, It’s midnight as I write this.

Three years.

Natemare Battle had seen some stuff in three years, but nothing to this scale. Mass destruction, chaos, and loss..how he and Skelly were still alive was a mystery to even him. Correction, how he was still alive. NateSkellington, called Skelly by the others and known by all as “The King of Halloween”, was severely ill. He couldn’t be closer to death…somehow he was still here. Phantom and Sharper had left two years ago to persue their own interests, Jessi and Bones were missing, and the others..? Dead.

As the puppet ego walked the empty streets, he couldn’t help but wonder why this had all happened. I mean surely Nathan wouldn’t let this happen to his egos!! Why hadn’t he come to see us? He asked himself this daily, yet deep down he knew the answer: Nathan didn’t care, and the reason they were all gone was because he forgot about us, THEY forgot about us..he kept walking. Mare wouldn’t let that bother them for now.

Imagine his surprise when they ran straight into Nathan. Stumbling back, he took a look at the man who stared right back. “Well, haven’t you changed?”, he asked helping Mare. “Yeah. That happens.” Natemare responded coldly to his comment. How was he supposed to react? He’d ignored them all for years and then he just shows up again. The other male looked around. “What happened here…? Looks like a Ghost Town-where’s Heathen? And Christmas? What about Skelly??”

Natemare stared at him. He…he didn’t know. Of course he didn’t. “Dead. No thanks to you.” “What’s that supposed to mean-“ He got cut off. “YOU LEFT US ALONE FOR YEARS, NATHAN. FORGOT ABOUT HALF OF US. AND BECAUSE OF THAT PEOPLE DIED. PEOPLE LEFT. I HAVEN’T SEEN PHANTOM IN YEARS. SKELLY COULD DIE ANY DAY NOW. WHY DID YOU LEAVE US? WHY??” Mare snapped. He was so tired of loosing everyone he cared about. Nathan stared at him with a far off look, as if he wasn’t there.

“Hello??? ANSWER ME. YOU OWE ME THAT AT LEAST.” Nathan looked at him and sighed. “Any time I look at you, I wonder where the hell I went wrong, and then I remember. You’re the reason my lifes a mess. You’re my failure.” The other had no reaction at first, as Nathan started to apologize, but it was too late. Words had been spoken, too late to take back now. Nate kept apologizing, before returning to his spaced out self, his eyes glassed over and staring straight into Mares soul.

“Stop staring at me like that, with fake ‘pity’ in your eyes. All I am to you is a failure, right?” No response, just the same stare. He was getting tired of this. “Stop it. Stop fucking looking at me like that. Do you even hear me??”. No response. Nathan muttered a simple sorry and walked off, despite Mare’s curses at him to come back.

The sooner he left his failures behind, the sooner he could get back to normal.

I had the idea to make a Phantom-esque character in d&d. Not a surprising move, coming from me. Fire Genasi bard, couldn’t make a demon, still gonna be a blast.

I knew I wanted him to have a twin brother that he’d perform with (Natemare and Phantom, I thought it’d be fun). My DM has the idea to roll a bunch of random backstory stuff, just for the sake of it. Including siblings.

Guess who ended up with four identical brothers?

That’s right, it’s him. Five brothers total, and only one of them that isn’t identical.
