Commercial Awning Repairs and Replacement
The most efficient way to get your awnings meeting council compliance standards and protect yourself from potential lawsuits.
Sydney’s Awning Repair Experts
In recent times, local governments across the greater Sydney metro area have been cracking down on businesses and landowners about the condition of street-facing awnings. Many of them are significantly aged and damaged requiring either repair or replacement to meet acceptable pedestrian safety standards
As you may already know, replacement of these awnings to meet safety regulations is an intensive process, needing design, engineering, approval, often requiring nighttime construction and pedestrian management. Riches Building & Design are able to relieve the hassle for our clients and manage the whole process from start to finish.
What We offer
Having now worked with several Local Sydney Council’s we have accrued a significant amount of experience around the most efficient process and nuances of each LGA. Being a husband and wife team with decades of experience in construction and design, we can provide expert and cost-efficient help every step of the way. Our commercial awning services include:
Design Planning
2D Architectural Plans
3D Render
Management of Certification & Approvals
Complete implementation and management of contruction
More about Our Awning Remediation Services
Shop awnings tend to be one of the most neglected structures on the building as they are on the footpath side of the business and the structure lives out in the weather. Sooner or later this exposure leads to deterioration of the components such as rust holes in the metal, loose nuts and bolts and withered frames. Awnings are constructed from a vast array of building materials including wood/timber, metal, canvas, acrylic, aluminium, vinyl and other variations, and the level of exposure and engineering requirements will usually determine the type of materials used.
As one of Sydney’s more experienced commercial awning repair and replacement services, we usually find business owners are taken by surprise when faced with the necessity or formal directive to carry out awning remediation, as the process is a lot more involved than it would seem on the surface.
The table discusses some of the requirements you may not have contemplated:
Asbestos Removal In many cases, the deteriorated structures are old enough to contain asbestos requiring removal by a licensed contractor
Traffic Management In narrow streets where pedestrians need to be diverted, there may be the need to manage vehicular traffic as well. This may also be required for the supply of building materials.
Pedestrian Management If your awning has been declared unsafe by your local council then pedestrian management may be required immediately. It is also usually required through the construction process.
Emergency Propping If your awning has been declared not structurally sound, you will likely be directed to have emergency propping installed immediately
Nighttime construction In high pedestrian / vehicular traffic areas, you may not be able to manage daytime volumes effectively and you will be required to have the building works carried out after hours.
So who are we?
Not only husband and wife, we also combine a rare mix of two decades of carpentry and joinery experience with a passion and flair for design and decoration.
Our combination of skills gives us a unique ability to tackle some of the more bespoke projects where others don’t dare to go including high-end showrooms & commercial fit-outs, doctor’s offices, Commercial awning remediation and more…
Being a family-run business means we are usually considerably more cost-efficient than our competitors, which keeps our clients very satisfied.

A Restored Land Rover Series 2A LWB – The Perfect 4×4 Motorcycle Hauler?
This Land Rover Series 2A LWB (long wheelbase) has been through a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration by the talented team at Cool n’ Vintage for a world famous client – Deus Ex Machina.
Impressively this is the 86th Land Rover rebuilt by Cool n’ Vintage over the past few years, the Portuguese company has become globally renowned in vintage 4×4 circles for their work, and I have a sneaking suspicion that restoration number 100 is less than a year away.
This 1966 Land Rover Series 2A LWB was discovered as a retired fire engine that hadn’t run for decades, it was in rough condition but it was complete, and it was perfect for the project that Ricardo Pessoa, the founder of Cool n’ Vintage, had in mind.
Deus Ex Machina had contacted Ricardo to build them a bespoke long wheelbase two-door Series Land Rover that could be used for motorcycle hauling when required. The long wheelbase Series Land Rovers came in both two and four door configurations, with the two door variants featuring a tray back that was commonly used for load carrying, but that also works out well for motorcycle transportation.
Deus was founded back in 2006 as a passion project where custom motorcycles would be made alongside surfboards, skateboards, art, gear, and apparel. The prodigious growth of the Australian company has seen them opening locations everywhere from California to Biarritz, a far cry from the original shop in Camperdown, Sydney.
Each built at Cool n’ Vintage starts with a full disassembly and an inspection of parts, the chassis and all body panels are stripped, checked, and painted with modern primers and paints to ensure a long rust free life. Of course with Series Land Rovers the external body panels are almost all aluminum alloy, so rust isn’t a concern in these areas.
The rebuild process typically incorporates a series of subtle upgrades like those used on this LR, including parabolic springs uprated telescopic shock absorbers, all new bushings, brake lines, and fuel lines, and all new fixings.
The engine, gearbox, transfer case, and differentials have all been completely rebuilt. This is an original 2.25 litre petrol engine known for its mechanical simplicity and for being easy to work on in the field. Reliability is excellent so long as owners are on the ball with maintenance – additions like modern carburettors and digital ignitions are an excellent idea also.
During the build the team at Deus came and applied one of their signature custom motorcycle drawings to the black chassis, this was part way through the 1,000+ hour restoration process.
Once completed the Land Rover was delivered to Deus in Biarritz, the first ever official Paris-Dakar Rally Yamaha from 1979 (it belongs to the Yamaha museum) was loaned for the occasion, and it now takes pride of place in the back.
With it’s uprated suspension and hefty BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires, couple with the roof delete and the windscreen folded down onto the hood-mounted spare wheel the Deus Land Rover is an ideal beach 4×4, and thanks to the bright yellow paintwork they’ll never have any trouble finding it in the dunes.

hey! i love ur blog a lot & i know u have some aussie mods so i was wondering if u could help me? do u know of any physical places to buy stim toys in aus? specifically tangles, squishies, chewies, & textured (bumpy/rigid) things? alternatively, do u have any good online shops/links that ship to aus?
Thank you so much for the compliment! Yes, we can absolutely help. Mod Rainbow and I (Mod K.A.)are both Aussie and invested in trying to make stim toys more accessible forAussies - part of the reason I started this blog was because few people at thetime were talking about places Aussies could buy stim toys that didn’t involvedollar conversion and international shipping costs.
We tag by country of toy origin (not countries to which toys ship) so youmight wish to check out our Australia tag forlocally-sourced toys. We’re now up to twenty pages of posts! Note that I amVictorian (regional Western Victoria, close to Melbourne) so that a lot of my resources tend to skew Victorian. ModRainbow is based in QLD, and I’ll ask them to add to the post if they have anylocal offline sources that I haven’t covered.
But, to answer your question more specifically, I’ll go by store and listthe things they sell. Links below go to that store’s tag or a post featuringthat item. Please note that it might be worth checking on the store’s tag, as all these stores stock many more stimmy things that don’t quite meet your brief for the toys you’re after - everything from bouncy balls and poppers to wooden puzzles and bubble wands.
Also note that dollar stores right now are stocking spinners and knock-off fidget cubes as well as the usual range of hedge balls/hedge creatures, bouncy balls and knock-off slinkies. There’s lots of things available in the toy, stationery and party sections, often for inexpensive prices.
First, offline (or offline and webstore) Australian stores:
Toyworld
(Store locations: Australia-wide, mostly on the East Coast.)
Tangles: $6 AUD for Tangle Jr, Jr Textured, Jr Fuzzy, Jr Metallic; $10 AUDfor Jr Textured Metallic; $10-$15 AUD for Tangle Hairy.
Hedgecreatures: $2 AUD
Snake puzzles: $6 AUD
Mind Games
(Store locations: Victoria, Tasmania, QLD)
Tangles: $10 AUD for Tangle Jr and Tangle JrTextured
Queen Victoria Market
(Located in the Melbourne CBD, Victoria.)
Squishies: $3-5 AUD each.
Daiso
(Store locations: Melbourne and Sydney.)
Wooden Nuts and Bolts: $2.80 AUD for three
Zenshin Massage Roller: $2.80 AUD
Silicone Face Scrubber: $2.80 AUD
Prickle/Massage/Sports Balls: $2.80 AUD for two
K-Mart
(Store locations: Australia-wide. Also allows online purchasing.)
Plastic Jointed Snakes: $2 AUD for four
Mini Massage Balls: $2 AUD each
Makeup Blending Sponges: $3-4 AUD each, depending on shape (squishy alternative)
Silicone and Water-Filled Teethers: $2 or $4 AUD each
Mini Snake Puzzles: $1 AUD each
Sensory Oasis for Kids
(North Altona, Melbourne. Also allows online purchasing with flat-rate shipping in Australia for $9.95 AUD.)
Chewigem Dog Tag Pendant Necklace: $22 AUD (Click here for entire Chewigem range.)
Twiddle: $12.95 AUD
Wooden Puzzle Stick: $2.95 AUD
Tangles: $9.95 AUD for Tangle Jr, Tangle Jr Textured, Tangle Jr Metallic, Tangle Jr Fuzzy, Tangle Jr Textured Metallic; $12.95 for Tangle Hairy.
Smiggle
(Store locations: Australia-wide. Some items for sale online.)
Mini Snake Puzzle: $7 AUD (often on sale at 2 for $7 AUD)
Large Snake Puzzle: $14 AUD (often on sale for $7 AUD
Serpent Puzzle: $14 AUD (often on sale for $7 AUD. Note: not available online, but I have still seen these available in offline stores).
Kidstuff
(Store locations: Australia wide, mostly on the East Coast.)
Hairy Tangle: $14.99 AUD
Second, Australia-based webstores:
Sister Sensory
Source for: Chewables, Tangles, Fidgets
No shipping price listed on their website, so it seems they calculate based on weight.
The Therapy Store
Source for: Chewables, Tangles, Fidgets
No shipping price listed on their website, so it seems they calculate based on weight.
Skillbuilders
Source for: Chewables, Tangles, Fidgets
Shipping is calculated based on the value of your order. $0-$25 is $8.25 AUD shipping; $25-$50 is $14 AUD. I do not recommend this as a good way of determining shipping, since it’s possible via this metric to purchase two chew pendants, which are light, and pay $14 AUD to ship both when they’d both fit in Australia Post’s under 250 gram weight bracket.
Third, international sources:
Stimtastic
Source for: Chewables
Despite being located in the US, I really recommend Stimtastic as a source for chewables. This is because Australian stim toy/OT stores only tend to stock Chewigem and ARK Therapeutic chewables, which are usually priced around $20-$22 AUD plus shipping (usually around $10 AUD … thanks, Australia Post). Stimtastic’s chewables are $10 USD or less, so even by the time you pay dollar conversion and international shipping, you’re still often saving money. Depending on the chewable in question, sometimes you can even get two items for the same price as one purchased here in Australia.
(Because of issues of weight, there’s other items that I wouldn’t purchase from Stimtastic and would try to source here in Australia instead, but the chewables are too well priced not to purchase from this store, even with international shipping. Plus the shipping is quick!)
Banggood
Source for: Squishies
Most things have free standard international shipping. Despite shipping from China, I’ve had everything I’ve purchased so far arrive in three weeks or less. There’s a range of squishies available here, from only a few dollars each to $10 AUD and more for the larger, higher quality squishies. Not paying shipping makes their offerings that much more affordable and I’ve had no problems with the items I’ve bought.
eBay
Source for: Squishies, Tangles, Spinners, Knock-off Fidget Cubes
A great many of these things also have free standard international shipping from China, Hong Kong, the Philippines. Please note that quality varies widely and most of these things (especially the cheaper free shipping options) are knock-offs. (Check out this post of mine about the knock-off eBay Tangles: they work just like a Tangle Creations-packaged Tangle, but they’re lighter, looser and clickier.) For stimmers without a lot of money, though, these things are well worth checking out, especially if you don’t mind something clickier and louder (fidget cubes particularly).
If you need more help with finding sources closer to your state, please let us know. I’ve probably forgotten something, but my wrist is starting to hurt so I’ll end this one here! Being Victorian, I have more resources than many other Australian stimmers, but availability varies so widely from state to state, at times it’s like being in another country. I know a lot of what I take for granted just isn’t available elsewhere.

Make Cardboard Robot Puppets that Move!

Make Cardboard Robot Puppets that Move!
Learn how to create fun robot puppets that actually MOVE using cardboard and other recycled materials in this make and play project for kids by Danielle Falk of Little Ginger Studio.
Any art teacher will sing the praises of humble ol’ cardboard as a brilliant material for art-making.
A cardboard box has endless possibilities for re-invention as a fort, rocket, shop or whatever.
Cardboard can easily be cut, glued, painted, decorated and shaped into almost anything little imaginations can come up with. And it lends itself especially well to puppet-making as it is strong but still easy to manipulate.
And kids love puppets.
You’ve heard me rave on about how much children enjoy creating and playing with puppets before, and these robot puppets I’m about to show you are no exception.
It’s especially fun to create extra-large robots so that children can hide behind their robot puppets and get really lost in role-playing their characters.
Waste not, want not!
This puppet-making activity is mostly made with recycled materials so you can feel good about not purchasing too many materials & being thrifty too! It is suitable for 4 year olds (with some assistance) to 12 year olds.
How to Make Cardboard Robot Puppets
MATERIALS
lots of medium weight cardboard (ie: that is still “cuttable” with scissors). Depending on the age of the children you might wish to pre-cut some into “robot shapes”: squares, rectangles, triangles, long limbs etc. scissors acrylic paint, tempera paint or tempera paint sticks a good quality high temp hot glue gun & glue gun sticks (teacher use only). Low temp mini guns won’t be strong enough. school glue or wood glue & glue sticks RECYCLED MATERIALS! The more the better: bottle tops, champagne bottle cages, jar lids, popsicle sticks, coffee cup holders, cardboard packing materials, cardboard rolls, egg cartons, silver bubble wrap – old nuts & bolts and screws would look amazing too! washi tape, pom poms, pipe cleaners, colored construction paper (for added color) or aluminum foil to add bling! 20 inch long dowel per puppet thick kitchen wooden skewers strong and thick duct tape – I love this brand especially (mostly because of the pretty colors!) lots of split pins and something sharp to make holes in the cardboard (I used a Phillips head screwdriver). I like these long split pins as they are easier for kids to use.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Create the robot body + limbs
Begin by selecting a large square or rectangle for the body and head shape. A responsible adult will need to attach this with a hot glue gun.
Next, choose some limbs and attach the hands and feet in the same way. We took our time arranging & re-arranging our pieces until we thought our robots had enough “personality” (Kookiness? Whimsy?).
2. Decorate the robot
Kids can decorate their robots using paint, paint sticks, paper, washi tape, silver bubblewrap & foil in any way they like. It’s best to direct them towards using smaller pieces & ensure everything is attached properly (with glue).
However in terms of how to decorate their puppets, I take a lot of pleasure in presenting children with a wealth of exciting materials. Then I step right back to watch their creativity in action! I’m always amazed at how innovative kids are.
The real magic happens in the second “layer” of decorating when children add details such as:
Eyes: coffee cup holders & bottle tops Buttons & Dials: bottle tops & jar lids on the robot body Antennae: pipe cleaners, metals bits etc.
These materials will all need to be hot glued on by a responsible adult.
3. Attach the limbs to the body
Carefully line up the limbs and body and make holes at the ends of each limb (not too close to the edge). Create holes in the right places on the body as well.
Line up the holes and attach the limbs by sliding the split pins through both holes and splitting the pin at the back to hold in place. Kids LOVE doing this bit, but will probably need help to press down the pin firmly.
Pro tip: Pop some duct tape on top to hold the split pin in place.
4. Attach the dowel stick
Once again, that handy responsible adult will have to use the hot glue gun to attach the dowel puppet handle. It’s also a good idea to add duct tape here for extra strength.
Pro tip: Be sure the glue dries sufficiently before attempting to use the handle. I also added a wooden skewer (rammed into the edge of a cardboard hand so kids can move one of the arms).
5. Play with the robot puppets
It’s playtime! Create some silly robot voices, have fun moving the robot puppets arms and maybe make a funny Robot Puppet Show.
Enjoy!

Advice For Improving Your Home Made Easy!
New Post has been published on http://rubbishremovalsydney.xyz/advice-for-improving-your-home-made-easy/
Advice For Improving Your Home Made Easy!
Whether you are a newbie or a seasoned vet, improving your home will improve your life. A house is truly a reflection of yourself. This article provides you the ability to make your residence amazing.
Weather stripping can greatly increase your windows’ efficiency. Weather stripping can be purchased cheaply at your local hardware store, and is easy to apply. It’ll keep hot and cold air sealed out, meaning that the systems you use to heat and cool your home will be more effective. This may also help to eliminate feelings of draftiness around your doors and windows.
TIP! It’s crucial that you regularly replace air filters. In addition to making your home’s air more healthy, it’s also helpful for air conditioning and heating units.
Think about using stain instead of paint on your baseboards for your next home improvement. In addition to being classic, the warm look of wood is natural in virtually any style of home. Furthermore, wood stain does not readily show scuffs or scratches. Painted baseboards, on the other hand, leave very little to the imagination. Wood stain comes in lots of different colors to coordinate with any color scheme.
Thoroughly dust your home at least one time every week. Dust will build up and you may have allergies that make you sick. When you dust your accessories, you clear away dirt and check for fleas, spiders and ants.
In order to make storage containers for small items like screws and nuts more useful, try hot-gluing an example of the contents to the outside of the container. People often experience organization problems when trying to find hardware that they need. After rummaging through dozens of containers, it is difficult to keep track of all the written labels.
TIP! Hot glue your screws, nuts, bolts and other hardware to their storage containers! No matter how organized you are, it can be difficult to locate a small piece of hardware in your shop. The problem with writing down words on labels is that they can fade, smear or merge over time.
When a lock needs replaced, try replacing the whole assembly or just the cylinder. The cylinder in the lock is what actually initiates the locking action. If your key has been lost and you would like to change out the lock to ensure you’re protected, you can replace the cylinder. If you need more security or you want to change the look, you should replace the entire thing.
Sand down any wood before you stain it. The smooth finish can be achieved by using a fine grit sandpaper. Using a damp cloth to wipe the surface helps get rid of dust and provide a smooth finish.
Add new handles and knobs to your cabinets in your kitchen. An old kitchen can be brightened up by using cabinet knobs, which are easy to change. When replacing handles and knobs, think about cleaning out your cabinets because it is easier to do when you don’t have snagging hardware. All that’s left is to install the new hardware!
Finally, repairing your home can make you feel good. Nobody wants to live in a house that needs repairs. With any luck, the tips mentioned can help you on your next home improvement project.

Hvordan planlegge en reise
Research jeg har samlet som forberedelse til Australia-reisen.
Step 1. Determine your budget
Check the cost of transportation to that place (tur-retur)
Skyscanner and Kiwi.com
Check avergae price of accommodation (hotel) in the place (hotel.com and Airbnb)
Check cost of renting a car for 10 days (roadtrip)
Other costs worth researching: excursions, food, transport within country, visa (if needed)
Cost of activities: ziplining, restaurants
Step 2. Figure out what the goal of the trip is
action packed adventure - relaxed revitalizing vacation
What do you want to accomplish on your trip?
roadtrip: see the countryside and escape tourist areas
I want to see three major cities and the Sahara desert
Cultural trip to Europe: research museums and churches to visit
Classic - 18 to 30 - Nat Geo Journeys - Active - Marine - Wellness - Local Living - Rail - Family
Live - Taste - Try - Learn
personal interests - travel preferences
nightlife and entertainment
outdoors: hiking, treks, safaris, ecotourism, canoeing, bicycling
culture: history, art, museums, galleries, cuisine, architecture
(Helps the planning process since it helps you decide what to bring home with you after a trip.)
Step 3. RESEARCH.
(Most intimidating part due to sooo much research out there. We’re lucky to live in a time with so much information at our fingertips. But there’s travel blogs, tripadvisor, youtube, instagram, etc. It can be overwhelming to figure out where to start or what the best place are to go. I recommend searching for what you want to do. I want to go on a road trip in Morocco, so I search for other people’s iteneraries when they went there. Get an idea of what kind of personal experiences they had and their recommendations. I like reading travel blogs: not one in particular, but many different ones on the same topic. Then one thing leads to another, you get a key search word, and so on and so on.)
Ask other travelers for their favorite parts, what they missed, what they did, etc.
Check if you need to apply for visa.
Check if the place is safe and cultural customs. Remember when you’re a traveller, you are a guest in their country and it’s your job to respect their culture.
Research what the common tourist scams are.
Check the average price for a taxi or an airport transfer.
Step 4. Create a loose itenerary.
Just chill at the beach for a week --> not much planning
If you’re going different places, you should plan a little bit day by day.
I try to plan out at least one thing I want to do for each day. Just to know that I’m on schedule and getting to do and see everything I want to.
Tips: Don’t overschedule. You want to feel good, free and relaxed. Otherwise you’ll struggle to be present in the place and begin stressing. Be spontaneous.
Step 5. Book your flight (3 weeks in advance) and accommodation (for 2-3 nights to begin with)

Anmeldelser: Reisebøker
Tips: Brukte Amazon til å få bladd litt i bøkene før jeg bestemte meg for hvilke jeg ville låne fra biblioteket.
Eyewitness Travel has tons of illustrated information about cultural sites and attractions - even remote areas. It contains numerous photographs and well-drawn illustrations of major sites, allowing you to immediately grasp a destination’s layout and its main attractions. Lots of useful information about art, culture, food, and architecture.
Downside: Due to the full-color pages and thick paper, the guide is quite heavy, especially since it is not designed as an all-inclusive guide. Travelers still need to carry another guidebook to learn about nuts-and-bolts travel information such as transportation and lodging.
Rough Guide devote more space to describing various attractions and destinations. Their style is more narrative than other guidebooks, giving better sense of place and culture. They also provide great practical travel tips about transportation, safety, and all the other travel essentials.
Downside: Sometimes not specific enough and lacking key details about some key essentials, such as places to stay and eat.
Insight Guides are an essay compendium with valuable insights into most aspects of a country, its people, culture, history and attractions. It’s a rich photographic journey through the country. You’ll get get a colorful and diverse impression before traveling there. The Insight guides focus instead on providing a country portrait with well-researched and thoughtful essays.
Downside: The books do not have as much practical travel information and tips as other guides, and the selection of lodging and dining is limited.
Lonely Planet deals with the daily challenges that independent travelers face every day: how to get around, where to stay, where to eat, etc. But the guidebooks lack in-depth information about cultural destinations. It’s exhaustive listings and information about the places. Best choice for long-term travelers / globetrotters.
Downside: Due to the vast popularity and faithful following, Lonely Planet has inadvertently helped to create a "Lonely Planet Trail" in the countries covered by their guides.
Activities
This land is “girth by sea”. Surfing, fishing, sailing, diving, snorkeling is what people do here - national pastimes.
Inland there’s vast lakes and meandering rivers: rafting, canoeing, kayaking, fishing.
Dry land: bushwalking/hiking, cycling.
Wildlife watching
Skiing in the mountains
Shopping: big cities can satisfy most consumer appetites with everything from high fashion boutiques to secondhand emporia. Smaller places tend towards specialty retail: home-grown produce, antiques, arts and crafts.
Markets are great places to shop. Most cities have at least one permanent bazaar.
Entertainment: epic sporting events, thriving live music scenes in major cities, arts festivals, classical music, ballet
Eating: Its culinary scene is almost unrecognisable from a couple of decades ago. Back then only simply unimaginative tastes imported from US and UK, pasta and pizza. To see this, venture to an outback roadhouse and order the special.

Nightlife and drinking: reliable pubs, slick nightclubs, classy wine bars serving craft beers and world class wines. Venues with great beer and open-air gardens offer perfect backdrop. Whisky bars serving gins, whisky.

Dingle is a calling....
Returning to Connemara International airport, referenced by the locals....well we did fly over the sea, ok Galway Bay.....International hmmmm largest plane is a Beechcomber..... Our final Irish destination is a few hours drive south of Galway to the home of Fungi, the Dolphin & the very best of Ireland's seafood....also dubbed little Boston.....geez Dingle could well be an American village....they were everywhere! Our trip down to Dingle engulfed some seriously stunning landscape & O'Connors Pass on approach to Dingle was breathtaking even though we were fogged in....so pleased we decided to take the long scenic route, was well worth the effort. We did manage to experience the Pass in clear sunshine the day we left Dingle.....so thrilled! Our accommodation for a few nights in Dingle was in the Barr Na Sraide pub.....ok, now bloody try pronouncing that! Turned out to be a great place to stay & very central to everything in Dingle village including the waterfront area.....they also serve a delightful brekky.....just loved the stewed rhubarb & berries.....my kind of brekkie.....also on offer was the full Irish cooked variety. The age old adage of a pub on every corner is outdone in Dingle as there is a pub every bloody 50 metres & some.....Dingle is also the home of Foxy John's hardware in a pub....every blokes dream.... hey honey, I'm just ducking down to the hardware for some nuts & bolts & maybe a screw or two.....I am serious....proof in pic! Bunnings has a serious contender.....wonder if the old Fox wants to franchise..... Dingle offers some fine shopping if the drunken hardware isn't your cup of tea & some damn nice restaurants...4 with a Michelin star, one is OOTB : Out of the Blue : Seafood, tried in vein to get a reservation albeit at short notice....nada 😞 It's on the radar for our next visit! Amazing....such a small town offering such fine tasting morsels...not too shabby! We found a bit of a gem in Lord Baker's Restaurant & Bar which is apparently internationally renown. This gem was actually established in 1780 & is reported to be Dingle's oldest pub. The owner is John Moriarty, a rather well known & respected Irishman whom we happened to meet. Absolutely superb fair is on offer from both the sea & land, we had some delicious seafood....my choice was half a lobster with mussels & oysters....the lobster was presented live on a silver platter prior to being whisked off to the Chef....very civilised! Yours truly had a wonderful day shopping around Dingle, weaving my way up & down small alleyways that offered a plethora of hidden treasure troves.....trendy boutiques, craft stores, hand crafted quality jewellery, unique local designers, cafes, restaurants & ice creameries.....& of course pubs....pubs everywhere! Actually Dingle reminded me very much of Sydney's Rocks area....Dingle is a vibrant village offering something for everyone....another must visit destination in Ireland..... Thanks Dingle, loved all that you offered. We now say goodbye to Ireland as we head back to London from Shannon, we are aboard our Ryan Air flight to Gatwick as I write.....I always leave a piece of my heart in the turf of Ireland, I will miss you, I always do....but I'll be back to collect that piece of my heart.....to be sure, to be sure 🍀 💞🍀

Steel Rods
My blood is of the Gundungurra People of the Greater Blue Mountains area of Australia. In the early 1800s, my people were hunted by British troops who had begun colonizing the land. My biological father, Lightning West, was taken in by a lower middle class family of engineers in Sydney. They changed his name to Roderick so he could better assimilate to the culture of the white man. My father grew up to be a great engineer, becoming the Head of Innovation at a factory for steam engines. He was a man of good morals and integrity and despite the disapproval of his parents, he married my biological mother, Alexia, the daughter of the local school teacher. Unfortunately, Roderick died in a terrible explosion at the factory, leaving my mother widowed with three children. Left with no job and no support, my mother and her three children (I was the youngest at four months old, followed by a sister and brother who were thirteen and seventeen) had to take to the streets. Alexia soon became the talk of the town. The widowed daughter of a poor school teacher with her three aboriginal children living on the streets—what scandal.
. . .
Gwendolynne Wellington was the top of the top of the aristocratic ladies of her day. She was elegant and poised, but never afraid to speak her mind. Even as the youngest of the four Wellington girls, she was the most well-known. Her family’s name put her in the crowd, but her wit, charm, and intelligence allowed her to stand out. She was at her mother’s dreaded biweekly tea party when she heard about Alexia. Sick of listening to the gossip, Gwen left the party to see the story herself. Upon seeing the poor conditions of which my siblings and I were growing up, Gwen offered to take my family in. Alexia, ridden with pride, refused to accept Gwen’s charity, and my two siblings followed. She did, however, acknowledge her inability to provide for me, a four month old infant and just like that, on a cold dreary day, I became Ray Wellington, son of Gwendolynne Wellington. That was the last I’d ever see of my biological family.
Gwendolynne’s grandfather was a government official who moved over upon Britain’s conquest of the island. At twenty-two, Gwen was quite the radical lady. She was single, educated, and the adopted mother of an aborigines infant. Although she was beautiful, with her sleek figure, her long blonde hair, and piercing blue eyes, she was hardly ever sought after. Her ambition and, well, opinions, intimidated men. That is, until she met Bartholomew Wakefield. Bartholomew’s family opened a watchmaking shop after immigrating from London in the late 1700s. He was a tall, burly man with thick brown hair that matched his bold brown eyes and a knack for building things. They met at an aristocratic social in which he heard her muttering about how overrated the dress code was. Bart sauntered over, ripped the sleeves off his dress shirt, and that was that. The two were soon married and Bart took me in as his own son.
. . .
I was four when Gwen became pregnant with my sister Prynne. Prynne was a carbon copy of my mom. She had bright blue eyes and a smile that lit up every room. She was a curious soul who loved to explore. On Sundays, Prynne and I would go to the market to shop for the week’s cooking supplies. She would often disappear, only to be found talking to the old lady selling yarn, or the blind man selling eggs. I loved Prynne with all my heart, but couldn't help but compare myself to her. I began to feel out of place. After all, she was a direct product of my parents’s love, and I was only a product of pity.
On sunny days my family would have friends over. The adults would drink afternoon tea while the kids played in the yard. I was always invited to join, but I never did. I couldn't seem convince myself that I belonged - with my curly black hair and tan complexion. I preferred to stay in my room, disassembling watches and toys. I liked learning the mechanics of things—I liked the satisfaction of creating something. I didn’t like the way I compared myself to my family, and I disguised my loneliness with an facade of introversion and solitude. I told myself I was okay—that I didn’t need a family and I believed it. My absence worried my parents, but I was never able to open up to them. They wouldn’t have been able to understand what it was like to be different.
I began school at the age of seven. It was hard to find a school that would take me in because of my aboriginal background and when they did, I was outcasted by my peers. As a result, I was never a fan of school and often found myself ditching to go search for mechanical parts in an abandoned steam engine factory. It wasn’t rare that I would find myself spending the whole day at the factory, examining engines and railway cars. Other than my bedroom at home, this was the place where I found the most comfort.
. . .
One day, my father lost his arm. I was seventeen. I remember hearing about it through my bedroom door. He was at work in his watch shop when he heard a commotion next door. A young girl working in the bakery had been robbed by thieves and my father, being the hero he was, raced after them. He caught the thieves, but broke his arm in the tackle. The angle at which the arm had snapped was unable to be fixed by doctors and was thus amputated.
I knew the young girl from the bakery. Her name was Emmeline and she had curly blonde hair that came down to the middle of her back. She always wore her hair up, tied with a light blue ribbon. I would often buy a loaf of bread or a pastry from her on the way home from the factory. On the weekends, she would babysit Prynne. Those were the only days in which I would abandon my hermit lifestyle. I would find every excuse to walk through the living room and into the kitchen and around the dining room and across the backyard. I desperately wanted to get to know her, but was always too shy.
I soon discovered that this was my chance to do something great—to get Emmeline’s attention. I decided to get straight to work on a bionic arm for my father. I gathered steel rods, copper wires, nuts, and bolts from the factory. I spent days locked in my room, wiring and rewiring until finally, one week later, on a sunny day in December, I did it. I bursted out, immediately blinded by the light outside of my windowless room. I suddenly became aware of my lack of sleep, water, and food—but I didn’t care. I raced down to the dining room where my family was having lunch and presented them with the arm. It fit perfectly. With a slight flex in his shoulder blade and his arm muscles, my father had full control of his fingers. I had never felt more pride, more belonging, than in the moment. This was the start of a new beginning.
I was fascinated by what I was able to do. I began to apply myself in school (and by apply I mean actually showing up); my new confidence allowed me to approach Emmeline at the bakery and strike up a conversation. It seemed that my father had been speaking with her since the robbery as well, and she had also taken a liking in me. With my newfound pride, passion, and companionship, I decided it was time to further my education. I wanted to make more creations, and the possibilities were endless. I needed the resources and mentorship at a higher level. I needed to go to University.

DHL eCommerce Launches Fulfillment Center in Sydney to Enable International Brands to Reach the Australian Consumer
- New facility in Sydney, Australia offers flexible, fully-integrated inventory management and last-mile delivery for international brands and retailers
- DHL eCommerce "Plug-and-play" system allows retailers to scale globally, quickly and easily
SYDNEY, Jan. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- DHL eCommerce, a division of the world's leading logistics company, Deutsche Post DHL Group, today announced the launch of its Fulfillment Center in Sydney, Australia to support booming demand for overseas goods amongst Australia's online shoppers. International brands and retailers are now able to reach out to the rapidly growing Australia market.
The nuts and bolts of e-commerce
"Australian shoppers are the second-most likely in the world to buy online from overseas merchants1, and the significance of their purchasing power will only increase as cross-border e-commerce grows at an average of 29% per year until 20202," said Damien Sheehan, Managing Director Australia, DHL eCommerce. "Online retailers need to overcome the traditional problems associated with overseas expansion -- finding new suppliers in each market, delivering shipments within days not weeks, and keeping costs in check -- if they want to stay competitive in this borderless future."
"The launch of our Australian Fulfillment Center gives our customers immediate access to one of the world's most mature and fastest growing e-commerce markets, with the scalability and quality needed to reach Australia's highly savvy online shoppers."
The Fulfillment Center will provide overseas merchants with fast, flexible shipping that integrates inbound freight, inventory, and last mile delivery in a single consolidated service. The center also operates using the same service level agreements, management platforms, and customer support as all other parts of DHL eCommerce's global Fulfillment network, allowing existing customers to expand their sales into Australia with minimal onboarding time and hassle.
"E-commerce has gone borderless, and order fulfilment needs to do the same," says Charles Brewer, CEO DHL eCommerce. "Our Australian facility adds another node to our standardized global network of Fulfillment Centers located in US, Mexico, India, Hong Kong and Central Europe, eliminating the need for e-commerce merchants to hunt for new logistics partners as they look to expand their global reach."
The center's design accommodates front-end integration with a range of popular marketplace and web-shop platforms, as well as multichannel order management and last-mile solutions for immediate and highly-accurate deliveries all across Australia. All of the center's services operate on a pay-per-use model with no capital spend or fixed costs.
"The value of Australian e-commerce sales is expected to grow by nearly 50% between now and 2020, making cost-effectiveness and scalability the critical issues for online retailers in the country," said Malcolm Monteiro, CEO Asia Pacific, DHL eCommerce. "Whether it's extending into new channels, offering more delivery options, or simply increasing inventory and warehouse capacity, global brands need fulfilment solutions that can adapt to their needs without requiring hands-on intervention every time a change occurs."
"Global e-tailers can access our latest fulfillment center for simplified nationwide inventory and last-mile delivery and also as part of a rapid and painless global expansion."
