I hate that I find myself making so many decisions about my comfort in public based on whether or not people will look at me funny. I want to bring my tangle to work damnit. When I’m on break I wanna tuck my head between my knees and rock back and forth without someone going “uh…you ok buddy?” like I’m two seconds away from a nervous breakdown. I wanna vocal stim, that’s it, just literally at all. Can we just let people take up space in the manner that suits them without being squirrelly about it?

So this makes me absolutely sick but I'm not sure how to feel

A caretaker took video on her cell phone of a 45-year-old disabled man she was supposed to be helping. He was nude, didn't know he was being filmed, she posted it to Snapchat with derogatory comments.

The caretaker is black so even though she pleaded guilty and was going to get jail time the disabled man asked that she just get probation because he knew the system was disproportionately harsh on black women.

I think that's really cool of him so I kind of have mixed feelings about this.

The fact that this went to trial is rare and apparently that's thanks to a friend of the caretaker's who turned her in. If the man was intellectually disabled it's highly likely that nothing would've happened to her at all. This is a disabled adult, non-elderly person, meaning this is not a person who's lived a life of privilege. Crimes like these are incredibly common but most people don't even acknowledge that ableism even exists.

I can't help but feel that this woman should've gotten an appropriate sentence for the hate crime she committed not to "set an example" but because people who commit these crimes should always be sentenced to the fullest.
