The fact we didn't get any info on the minotaur witch...
I'm sad magireco's shutting down... I feel like so many characters have been missed... I suppose having all (almost, I'm so so sorry Suleika) anime witches now added in Scene Zero was super nice at least
Satomi and Mirai never even got art... like damn... so fucking cruel...
And it felt like Oriko barely even scratched the surface of its characters... only Oriko, Kirika and Yuma when the main cast has ten characters... I guess fuck extra story and sadness prayer :T I will still never not be mad at the suzune and tart bias especially since they both have vile, disgusting artists behind them...
And we never got the ep12 anime magical girls even with the ultimate madoka 2nd magia tease... sigh...
We got a LOT of good witches through magireco though. Im so glad they actually revealed Winchester and the witch of symbols cause in earlier days I really didnt think they would.
I just hope magia exedra is good and gives me lots and lots of witches!!! I'm honestly wondering though... will exedra keep the magireco characters or ditch them to go only back to the main five..? Hmmm

So, I just finished reading through Null Magical Girl (Puella Magi Madoka Magica spinoff novel)
And, I think this is the most batshit insane, yet completely unironic and noncomedic story i've ever consumed in any form. And I'm saying this as a FNaF and Danganronpa fan, as well as an avid consumer of fanfic, of 4th wall breaking stories, of weird illogical slasher movies, and of surrealist content.
Like this isn't comedic or random, and it's not meta at all really save for some analysis on the nature of stories and stuff like that. But...
I don't know how to verbalize it. It's pure philosophical insanity at the level of the most confusing SCP article you can think of x10, in the universe of Madoka Magica (but none of it's characters except Kyubey), with a main character who must at one point become the "ultimate detective" and solve "the ultimate locked room murder" (Danganronpa brainrot go brrrr), and I don't want to spoil it but...
You know what? Just fucking read it yourself, I can't do this shit justice. And whatever you've heard about it being weird before this is likely just the beginning. Like I knew about the Homo Magica species being a thing. I knew about the time travel into the distant future to observe this species
But none of that is even scratching the surface of this thing.
Anyways, 10/10, it's not better than Rebellion but it's up there for me. How does anything manage to be this ridiculous and absurd without being ridiculous and absurd. Like this isn't anything like, for instance, Lasagna Cat. But I had a more wtf reaction to this piece of media than to that. It's just so uniquely, subtly out there compared to things like Lasagna Cat, not that I don't like that series, it's just being used as an example of the kind of insane that this isn't, to in turn demonstrate through that absence how insane this work IS. Because it is fucking insane. And I love it. And AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Maybe it's made worse by the fact that I am actually capable of following it's logic.
Maybe the best way of putting it is that it's a Mind Screw without being aggressively symbolic or random or tonally inconsistent.
I dunno, I keep trying to describe it and it keeps failing so I'm just going to force myself to stop typing and actually post this rant that wasn't supposed to be a rant but apparently I can't help myself when it comes to these things.

hello, do you happen to have a raw text + just the illustrations version of null magical girl that could be shared? the pdf version has lovely formatting but it's quite difficult to read on a smaller screen since you can't adjust text size...
Sorry for taking so long to answer this, I'm not quite sure if this is what you wanted but hopefully it will suffice?

ok i’m reading null magical girl and i’ve just gotten started on volume 2, here’s wgat i think so far:
kosane my wonderful failgirl kosane. girliepop i relate to you so hard
eruna is giving me ui vibes tbh
what do you mean she doesn’t have a brain or a soul.
WHAT DO YOU MEANNNN HER ACTUAL “BRAIN” IS A TUMOR MADE FROM INCUBATOR CELLS. SHE’S A FUCKING KYUBEY RAISED AS A HUMAN PILOTING A HUMAN BODY HELLO
magical girl VIOLENCE. honestly i initially pictured the 5 girls from the train as the holy quintet and the mental image of them beating the shit out of some random woman is killing me.

Dumping Null Magical Girl art from Sonohi on Pixiv. What a god damn mindfuck your existence is, Kosane Kiriha. I hope you get more popular so more people can decipher what your impact is on the cosmology and timeline of Madoka. Did Madoka or Homura save you from Eruna? Why would Kyubey even want Puella Magi now that they got you? Would anyone have noticed you at all while fighting through reality? Damn...

ooooouuugohugihguh the way cancer and tumors are a recurring theme in null magical girl.
kosane's tumor on the back of her neck that is actually her brain
the wish embryonic eruna made to divide and multiply making her a cancer cell
homo magica as reproductive cancer for the universe
kosane as simultaneous cancer cell and immune system for the universe
i really need to find and read more stuff by gengen kusano

today on "Ai takes with practically no audience":
I think Beyond Birthday (a major character from Death Note spinoff LN "Death Note: Another Note") is kind of the perfect thematic mirror to Kosane Kiriha (major character from Madoka Magica spinoff LN "Null Magical Girl") when you think about it.
not many people are familiar with both of those things I would think, but I can try to explain this comparison:
(cw: suicide mention + major spoilers for both LNs under the cut)
some obvious key similarities:
starting with the obvious: BB is born with Shinigami Eyes whereas Kosane has Incubator/Kyubey cells in place of her brain. (Which, like. if you are familiar with both DN and PMMM you'd know that Shinigamis and Incubators arguably play comparable roles, and they are both the Mephistopheles archetype.)
NMG (Null Magical Girl) starts by describing itself as the "story of a crime". Another Note/LABB is of course about a spree murder case - and thus, also the "story of a crime".
Specifically, both features a locked-room murder (suicide) where it is eventually revealed that the detective, the victim, and the culprit are one and the same: they're all Kosane and BB respectively.
(For minor points, they're both kinda weirdos [affectionate], there is like doppelganger-related business related to both of them, etc.)
moving onto the thematic aspects:
Thematically, it is very relevant that there are predetermined lifespans that cannot be defied.
In Kosane's case, her story is actually the story of a girl facing unemployment during the Covid19 pandemic, who eventually finds out she will inevitably die "in the locked room of 2021" through suicide, and who is trying again and again and again to save herself from the "locked room murder" where she is the culprit, the investigator and the victim alike. She has failed this again and again, but she is still trying.
In Beyond's case, his "locked room murder (suicide)" is an attempt to kill himself. He has also similarly failed in what he's set up to do, but by not dying instead of dying, unlike Kosane.
Now this depends on how you interpret him of course, but to me, I believe his plan to create his own death into an unsolvable murder is, arguably, also an attempt or experiment to take his own fate into his own hands (i.e. in a sense, to defy fate), as well. Like, his own lifespan is probably the only one he cannot see, so Beyond might want to test out if he alone has free will in a sense.
In that case, he is really a mirror to Kosane in how they both attempt to and fail to defy their fate, etc
....yeah. If that makes any sense lol
