Toby was not prepared for the Gauntlet at all.

When he ran into Harvey, he hadn’t expected anything like that.

He could have turned back before getting on the monorail, but after the destruction of the Institute he felt lost, overwhelmed by a sense of inertia, of passivity.

He had only brought a few grenades and Kellogg’s gun. He hadn’t even bothered to wear any armor, just a shabby road leather outfit.

And then, Nuka World? Fuck, he had yet to see it.

After realizing he had walked into a trap, Toby wasn’t surprised at all.

Just another group of radiers who think they’re dealing with the last of idiots, he thought.

The Gauntlet certainly put him to the test. Whoever created that game had some time to waste.

The hardest part of it was the final one, the fight with the raiders and the walk through hand grenades hanging from wires, that lead to the fight with Colter.

He listened carefully the advice of that voice from the intercom, that Gage guy. He wondered where the catch was, what was the reason behind all of that mess.

Then he prepared for the fight, after catching some breath in the locker room. In one hand he held the Thirst Zapper, in the other one the revolver of the man who took everything from him.

It all seemed so absurd and ridiculous.

He stepped into the arena and fought following Gage's advice, using the water to deactivate Colter's armor and the revolver to finish him off.

During a close encounter Colter vigorously pushed him against a bumper car, opening a large wound on the side of his face. At that point it seemed all over, but Toby managed to escape again and gave him the final shot.

An earthquake came from the stands: applauses, whistles, screams. Some of the crowd’s comments were directed at the man who had helped him earlier, the man who now stood before Toby, behind a thick glass wall.

“Welcome the new Overboss,” he heard Gage say, or something like that.

He turned to him, and staggered forward a few steps.

That was the first time ever they saw each others face to face.

And then, well…

Toby asked for water.

Hell of a Ride (1/2)

When someone finally makes it through the Gauntlet, Gage's relieved that they might finally have a candidate for Overboss--until he sees that the contender's just a kid. Still, she's the first who's gotten this far in a long time, so maybe there's some merit to her skills, and would be a good fit for the role after all. Besides, kids can be bossed around, right? God fucking damnit.

It was a kid. Redeye had said the new vic was on the young side, but Gage wasn’t expecting a teenager. A scrawny, wiry thing in armor that had been looted from corpses and didn’t fit right. Her gear was a hodgepodge of leather and old Gunner armor. She had gotten this far because of caution if Redeye’s commentary had a lick of truth, but slow and steady doesn’t help in a battle against Colter.

Still…maybe it was something.

Gage turned on the intercom. “All right, listen the hell up if you want to make it out alive��I’ve only got a minute.��

“Who’re you?”

The kid had already found the intercom. That was a good sign; taking initiative, or whatever.

“I’m the guy who’s gonna try and get you out of this alive, so listen up. The game’s rigged, kid—”

“It’s fucking rigged?!” echoed the kid. “Figures.”

“Shut up or I turn off this comm and you’re on your own.” Gage didn’t have the patience for this. It was easier when kids showed up wanting to be a raider, wanting to engross themselves in this life. But a kid surviving the Gauntlet was a whole different story–she couldn’t tap out or sneak off in the night. The gangs wanted a show. They wanted blood. “Now, you gonna be quiet?”

The kid said nothing.

“Good. Now, listen close.”

Gage outlined the plan. To the kid’s credit, she listened intently. She retrieved the Thirst Zapper as he instructed and paid attention to the plan. In fact, she got a little too quiet, and it made Gage nervous.

Funny, that stuff could still make him nervous.

“So, you got it?” he asked again.

“This isn’t going to work. Sure, water conducts electricity, but this is a toy.”

No shit, thought Gage. “Well, that’ll knock out his power armor long enough to let you get a few shots in. If you don’t believe me, then leave it, you little shit. You got a gun besides the zapper?”

The silence on the other end was, to say the least, concerning. Something clattered on the other end of the intercom. Then, the voice piped up again. “Yes?”

“Ammo?”

There was another clatter. “Yes.”

Gage shut his eye and took a deep breath. This kid’s fucked. “Well, good luck, kid. Try and die quick.”

“Fuck you.”

“Save that venom, you’re gonna need it.”

Colter shouted his usual pre-match bullshit, some of the crowd going wild. The others cheered but a few looked uncomfortable at the spectacle. The kid looked a little on the young side, still obviously a teenager, but since some of them were barely out of adolescence themselves. It could have easily been them in the arena with Colter instead of sitting in the audience as their fellow gang members lost it over the bloodshed.

Colter turned to the holding area, and Gage could hear the sneer of delight in Colter’s tone. “Don’t worry, kid–it’ll all be over soon.”

On cue, Gage hit the button to open the door. The crowd cheered.

Here we go, thought Gage. He saw the Thirst Zapper at the kid’s waist, tucked in a holster. Make it quick, make it painless. Make sure that kid doesn’t know what hit her.

The kid held onto her submachine gun, finger on the trigger, and charged. At least she was willing to give them a show.

The first part of the fight was painful. Coulter clipped the kid the moment she stepped into the arena. The kid hid behind the wreckage of ride pieces, occasionally taking pot shots but they rarely hit. It was obvious the kid couldn’t aim for shit–her hands shook so bad, it was comical. Colter chased her around like a loud cat toying with a mouse–shouting jeering remarks, but not taking her very seriously. The way everyone roared in the arena, Gage couldn’t help but feel bad. He didn’t want to even look, but he made himself watch anyway.

Then, a small explosion. A ripple of energy throughout the arena made Gage’s hair stand on end, his wrapped-up feet tingling as a current surged through the floor.

“What the–what is this?!” Colter demanded. 

Gage stepped sideways to see past Colter’s hulking frame. The sparking electricity that normally cloaked Colter was gone, leaving him standing there holding his combat rifle like a goddamned idiot. He let his guard drop, just for a moment, grabbing at his armor like that would fix it, and then–that’s when the kid struck.

Throwing the Thirst Zapper aside, she charged Colter, one hand around a beat-up submachine gun, the other outstretched to grab something. For a split second, Gage eyed something shiny at her waist–the machete hanging at her hip was just unnecessary weight in the fight of her life. That machete wasn’t going to do shit against the steel plating, and how the hell was she planning on picking up the Thirst Zapper in the chaos? The electricity would be shorted only for maybe ten, fifteen seconds tops. Not enough time to kill him. Maybe her plan was to give Colter lockjaw once she ran out of ammo if she lived that long.

The charging kid forced Colter to stumble back. They were so close to the glass barrier he could see her eyes past the smudged windows–dilated pupils so wide her eyes were almost black as a ghoul’s, fixed on Colter. Gage guessed she was hyped up on chems, and if her gritted teeth and foolhardy stupid charge were anything to go by, it was Psycho. Bloodthirsty, ready to give a show. 

The kid spared Gage the briefest glance and then—ran past Colter? Was her plan to try and get into the glass room, just charge and break the glass? No, not that—she reached out and grabbed some of the metal mesh on Colter’s armor. Used it to slide on the scuffed metal floors, relying on her weight to swing behind him. The metal cut into her fingers, blood bursting out in a gory pressure display, but she didn’t let go. She shoved her fist, still clutching the machine gun, towards the back of Colter’s power armor–

“Oh, fuck,” said Gage.

The fusion core popped out, wobbling loosely in its power chamber. The kid lost momentum and slid into an upturned bumper car with a crash but then dragged herself over it to give herself some cover.

“I’m gonna tear you apart!” roared Colter, unaware of the telltale signs of the power armor shutting down until it was too late. He made it about ninety degrees before it shut down entirely, and the fusion core started to slide to the ground. “You fucking bitch—”

She lined up the shot, which was impossible to miss, even with her shitty aim.

The resulting explosion threw everyone in the immediate area off their feet. Gage blacked out for a few seconds and came to with glass showering on top of him. He heard screams of panic and excitement once the ringing in his ears faded, noises of confusion, and the gang bosses tried to corral their people for a second as he collected himself.

Dead Drops 5 (Part 2a): The Siren City of Nuka-World

Like the last post, this section about Raiders will contain mentions of slavery. This is Nuka-World, after all.

Colter was a bitch. That much was true. However, it was Colter who originally brought together a tenuous union between the Disciples of Pain, the Operators Group, LLC, and P.A.C.K. - the Partnership for Active Collaborative Killing. Uniting, he was decent at. Running a raider empire, he was not. His tenuous rule was supplemented by his right hand man, Porter Gage, and his enforcer, Lex. Gage and Lex, as all raider underbosses did, quickly conspired to overthrow Colter and his lazy supporters. Colter handled inter-factional relations and attempted to play the faction heads against each other. Lex conspired then to sow disdain for Colter by sending small teams of loyal Disciples to sabotage the Gauntlet, artificially enabling more and more newcomer to get through, forcing Colter to spend more time doing his newfound hobby, killing those who emerged on the other side of it.

Finally, upon discovering the plot, Lex was forced into exile, though it would not be long before she returned through the Gauntlet, wielding a car bumper that she hammered into the shape of a sword. Tossing the heads of his guards that stood against her towards Colter, she demanded a duel, then proceeded to outsmart his electified power armor with a Thirst Zapper. She toyed with him for the next hour, systematically destroying limb after limb of his armor until he collapsed. She took great pleasure in ending his life, humbling and sadistically prolonging his death for all of Nuka-World to see. Colter's death was not challenged by his sycophants, either by fear or by Gage's political soothsaying. Lex claimed the title, and then proceeded to promise an expansive and lucrative future for the union of raider guilds, immediately sending task forces to conquer the rest of the park.

Mason was not satisfied when his Pack drew the short straw. Everyone knew there were only 5 park districts to control, and Mason's claim over the Safari Zone was not enough for him, even though it was the largest park in the complex. He planned his own coup, only for it to fail, miserably. He only was able to muster a slim majority of his faction, and he split his forces to take the power plant and dam simultaneously. The latter group failed to detonate charges at the dam, and the power plant's tenuous hold was only temporary. Mason's faithful would be purged, and those who sided with Lex were rewarded. Weylan, who had proven his worth to Lex by bringing her the head of a Deathclaw, would be named interim alpha of the faction, while Mason was used as a public knife sheath for the next few days. Finally Lex spared his pain by gutting him on a scaffold in front of the Fizztop Grille.

After the question of political unity was answered, then came the opportunity to turn Nuka-World into a paradise. Well, a paradise for one group of people. Quickly, the Connecticut Valley became a haven as a shady bordello with a casino attached to it, with slave auctions being a sideshow. That sideshow was where the real money was made, however, and the unique skills the raiders possessed, that of savagery, avarice, and domination, melded quite well to rival Paradise Falls in terms of acquiring and training human chattel. To avoid going into too much detail, assume "human chattel" to mean all senses of the word.

The sudden influx of raider survivors came as a bit of a shock, as the Commonwealth's population of Raiders - while full of weak suckers - were well on their way into domination of an even weaker settler population. It was "That Bitch Ashley" behind it all. Having the puritan Minutemen of the Commonwealth at the helm of their republic proved to be both detrimental and helpful to their business, as the loss in coercive income from the east was supplanted by new employment. Nuka-World rocketed from a raider camp to the New Vegas of the East, but with sickening upon sickening twist.

Fallout 76: RIP to my Explosive Gatling Plasma c.2019 - Jan. 24, 2023

Legacy weapons were nuked in today’s update. Or, more specifically, any weapon with the legendary explosive effect applied to non-bullet projectiles. Energy weapons disproportionately benefitted from the explosive effect. The most egregious offender was the Gatling Plasma, which became a peerless death machine upon attaching a beam splitter weapon mod. The beam splitter multiplied the explosive effect into discrete explosions with massive cumulative damage and splash AOE.

Bethesda addressed the balance issue years ago by removing explosive energy weapons (and other unintentional or disruptive legendary effect combinations, but today we’re focusing on the explosive energy flavor) from the loot pool, but people who had already obtained them were able to keep them. Thus was born the term “Legacy Weapon” in the context of Fallout 76. Due to their scarcity and immense power, many players began duping them for trade/profit using various exploits. And, naturally, selling them online for real money in direct violation of the EULA.

How one came into my possession, I’ll never tell/snitch, but I used mine (affectionately dubbed Slime Time after the puddles of green goo it reduced my enemies to) extensively. I also tried to utilize it as politely as I could, because the Fallout 76 playerbase have long disparaged the widespread use of Legacies for several reasons:

1) Legacy weapon TTK (time to kill) is near zero seconds, preventing players from tagging enemies to obtain XP credit. Common enemies and bosses alike could be shredded before other players even load into the area.

2) The explosive effect is loud and brighter than the sun when witnessed in close proximity.

3) Feelings of futility from newer players who missed the window of legitimately obtaining Legacy weapons, burdened with the knowledge that their character build will never compete with their extreme advantages.

Retiring this class of weapons will likely usher in a new meta populated by chainsaws, Railway Rifles, and heavy explosives galore. As a devoted patron and agent of in-game chaos I’m sad to see them go, but it’s also an overdue fix that I understand and, honestly, welcome.

Counted among the casualties from this update is the Thirst Zapper grenade glitch.

When equipping this squirt gun introduced to Fallout 76 by the recent Nuka World on Tour update, any equipped throwable item would become infinite. For weeks the playerbase either enjoyed or suffered spectacular laser shows and blinding Armageddon on our screens at popular public events.

The method to grind Nuka World Tickets that requires the least set up and is easiest on my hands is playing Bandit Roundup at the arcade, using the Thirst Zapper (which technically deals AOE damage, regardless of the value of the damage) and walking straight up to the machine to shoot.

I have 11,423 tickets on hand.

About 7,000 found from around the park, the other amount from my testing of methods.

100,000 - 11,423 = 88,577

A good game of Bandit Roundup is about 9,500 points or about 900+ tickets

88,577 / 900 = 98.419 (rounding up that last decimal)

I gotta DO THIS 99 MORE TIMES

Because SOME MANIAC picked the number without thinking of the GAMPLAY IMPLICATIONS

Edit: this is Xbox edition. I actually have this achievement on PC and I am NOT AFRAID to say I gave up going legitimate and used console commands to CHEAT and give me 100,000 tickets.

It’s the only way to not go insane as far as I know.

Here's the thirst zapper a bit cheaper then the Nuka Blaster. However their box is less of a display piece so if you like an in box display go for the Nuka Blaster. When she was 9(this takes place during the events of Fallout 3), she decided to leave with Madison Li to The Commonwealth. Leif was reluctant about her leaving at first, since she was basically the only like "family"(She looks alot like her dad, Angus, and Angus was Leif's Lover)he has left, but gave in and let her go, making her promise(also making Madison Li promise) to stay safe and hopefully that they'd meet again someday(They'd end up meeting during the Fire Support question for the Brotherhood of Steel. Also Alex and Nathan Ian Howard’s paths cross during this quest as well, making this the first time they meet). When she was 18, she heard about Nuka-World(So this takes place in 2286), and went go it, and kinda made Fizztop Grille her lil getaway home?, well until Overboss Colter and the the gangs show up, Colter was her first? boyfriend?(He technically doesn’t die in my version of Fallout 4, but I’m also working out Alex’s background with @m-is-for-mungo​’s OC Lily Black’s background, and Lily kills him so. 😅😅😅😅), But ye in my version Colter never dies and stays Overboss, with Alex at his side(But she also ends up leaving for long periods of times lol), also they take over the parks, but don’t end up touching The Commonwealth.

It's just interesting that I got more gifts than people actually congratulated me lmao (thanks for everyone again who thought about it tho!)

Nuka Cola Thirst Zapper - the part in the game may was the biggest pain in Fallout history, but I'd always wanted this replica because I'm such a merchandise obsessed haha It was often sold out, but my parents managed to finally get it and it's sooo cool! Maybe a bit small, but as huge Nuka World fan I won't complain

Funko Pops - I always loved the Korra one a lot, the design is amazing! And of course I needed Bruno as soon as he was published lol Both are pretty awesome and I'm glad to add them to my collection

Avatar Chronicles - A lot dislike Korras show, but it's definitely one of my a time favorites! I even love it way more than the original show oops- I actually didnt know about this book till it was recommended because of the Funko, but this book is definitely a must have for any Korra fan! I love it to much how it was made- you even have extras like recipes, letters or fake photographs in it! You instantly feel like being a part of that world

Riverdale Student Handbook - Also here, a MUST have for any Riverdale fan! It's sooo well made and again I love the concept they used because you really feel like being a Riverdale student! There's everything you need to know about the show and in such a good quality I can 100000% recommend!

CDs - of course I needed the new Bastille album (preordered it to get the autographs too) and I finally got doom days too! I'm sad you can't buy the second version of it anymore because I'm missing so many songs- but beside that, GMTF is really good and you def should give it a try! I listened to it every day since it came out and won't stop soon. And OneRepublic of course, how can't you love them- still mad that they chose the worst cities ever to make their tour oof

Marvel- my sister got me some Marvel stuff because she didn't know my HP house- but as Marvel obsessed I'm not complaining lol (she also got me a picture of my recent crush and I died so hard omg)

Washi Tape- there's no time where I won't get new tape. Tape is love. Tape is life. This time I got real cool background sceneries which are so aesthetically!
