Day 20: Weapons
If you're a fallout fan, you definitely recognize these guns. The thirst zapper was definitely one of my favorites after getting that acid mod

See you guys tomorrow!

Meet the Sillies !
Here are my Lone Wanderer, Courier 6, and Sole Survivor (+ an old oc) !
Info on them under the cut <3
Lone Wanderer: Axel Nessley
Age: 19
Gender: nonbinary (they/them)
Sexuality: queer (hasn't figured it all out yet, but they know they like boys)
Companion(s) of choice: Butch DeLoria <3
Weapon(s) of choice: Lead pipe and 10mm pistol
Courier 6: Jesse Elliot Ruthford
They get ghoulified after they successfully activate the purifier, I have doodles of that I'll post later.
Age: 26
Gender: trans man (he/him)
Sexuality: pan demiromantic
Companion(s) of choice: Arcade and Rex. Sometimes Boone or Veronica and ED-E.
Weapon(s) of choice: ratslayer, revolver, and Oh Baby!
He genuinely doesn't remember anything past first obtaining the platinum chip and even then that exchange is foggy. He's not too worried about getting them back either as long as he's still aim is still straight.
Gender: transmasc (he/they)
Sole Survivor: Fletcher Melbun
Age: 32
Sexuality: bisexual (male leaning preference)
Companion(s) of choice: Nick Valentine, Hancock, and Dogmeat
Weapon(s) of choice: modified combat rifle, molotovs, .50 hardened sniper rifle, serated switchblade
Has been going through a nonstop gauntlet since he left the vault. Long story short: he sobbed when he found Codsworth, he sobbed when he managed to make his way back to Valentine's office, and he sobbed anytime his Pip-Boy map would glitch out. Despite this, not a pushover. Don't test him.
Age: 23 (at time of ghoulification), now? They'll never tell.
My ghoul oc: Warren "Renny" Knewman
Gender: Won't tell anyone to keep them on their toes, but genderfluid (any pronouns)
Sexuality: asexual biromantic
Specific game origin: he could be applied to any title tbf, but I mostly imagine her in Fallout 4.
Weapon(s) of choice: sawed off shotgun, laser pistol, baseball bat
Just kinda hangs around, you could find her pretty much anywhere with a terminal and/or a surface to sleep on. When he's in the commonwealth, he likes hacking Diamond City’s turrets for fun when there's nothing too serious going on. Either that or they're camped out in Goodneighbor.
If you have any questions about them, don't be afraid to ask !!! I'll be rolling more art out of them soon enough :]
Thanks for reading ! And please reblog <3

Here he is! Scribe Alonso as a field scribe in fallout 4! This outfit has so many fun pockets and I felt this was also some good perspective practice with the laser pistol. One of my favorite details is the design on his goggles over where his missing eye should be. It's not perfect but it's a fun drawing!

I just realized with the three weapons that I am using in my current Fallout 4 run, the Cavalry Pistol, aka the Colt 1911 (modded) for close range, the Vintage Revolver Rifle (modded) for long range, and the Laser RCW (modded) for crowd control. I am literally just recreating how I played back in Fallout New Vegas.
youtube
I am unironically the Ranger in this video. (Fallout4:NewVegas plz come out soon!)

Ideas for a FALLOUT verse :
i'm gonna ramble here but i wanna get What I'm Thinking out.
OPTION 1 :
Jessica's Fallout story is very similar to how her life starts now ⸺ only, instead of Hydra that's employed her parents, it's the Institute. Researchers in genetics that would be very interested in some Big Brain Biologists like the Drews. Perhaps they're wanted for their research into irradiated spiders ( we don't see any mutated spiders iirc?? so like, maybe they survived pretty unaffected, stayed normal, and maybe that's why they're being researched on? 🤷‍♀️ ), or perhaps not and they're just normal biologists and one of them is more than willing to use their daughter as a genetic guinea pig.
She's poked and prodded at as a child, perhaps even still while she's developing within the womb. She's got a slight immunity to radiation ( decently so, but not entirely safe from it as i'm not looking to Ghoulify the gal ).
Does this make her some sort of mutant by Fallout standards? Just lacking the FEV? Something instead of the FEV, really. I suppose, sorta kinda. And I might touch on that.
OPTION 2 :
I mean, I mean, look at Fallout 4's main storyline and look at what's happening to her in her comics right now ⸺ her son is abducted by an evil organisation, goes on a wild hunt and stops at nothing to find him. ( Replaying the game rn with her as a character, and every time she sadly says something like "I need to find my son, they've abducted my boy" it's a GUT PUNCH ⸺ TOO REAL RN )
I'd make her married to someone random, and I'd rename Shaun to Gerry.
If I go this route, a more Fallout 4-esque story not a one for one, I'm gonna work her being a detective for Nick Valentine in there somehow. I can't not do that. Everything else is so perfect already, how can I leave that out too? ( in his Raggedy Ass Columbo Jacket and all <3 )
Either way, some KEY THINGS I wanna hit:
She's a bounty hunter.
Her weapons of choice? Modified biker gloves charged with fusion cells, looks like lil electrified balls firing as she uses them. As well as a pistol fitted with a laser attachment that she's affectionately named her Venom Blaster. ( Think Pew Pew from FO:NV. ) I was gonna go with knuckle dusters but I like the biker gloves more. Suits her. Plus that means she's got some sort of range on them like she would her real venom blasts. How do they work technically? I'll get there.
In lieu of her pheromones, she's got high as all hell charisma. Could charm the dew right off a honeysuckle. And, if possible, some way to work in the Black Widow perk from New Vegas, 3 & 4.
She'll be younger than she is now ⸺ instead of being typically 28 - 32, I'm taking her down to 24 - 28.
There's a brief, and I mean very brief, period of time in the comics where she smokes. I'm bringing that back for this verse. Pay her in caps, or depending on the job, a pack of smokes. If you wanna gain some points toward her good side, bring her a pack out of the blue.
Still from London, but her parents move to the States at some point before the bomb.

ok on my previous blog i did a few posts about fixing the things i didn't like about Fallout 4. not because i hate it but because i love it and want a better version. this time, weapon and armor tweaks.
first off, the problem children: power armor and heavy weapons. the real issues are that power armor is too all purpose and easy to access, and heavy weapons are too niche and situational. the minigun is practically useless after you kill the deathclaw in concord because you will never have enough ammo for it. on the other hand the power armor you pick up in the same quest is way too strong and there's absolutely no reason to ever not use it. if you know what you're doing you're not likely to run out of fusion cores past the super early game and there's no skill locking it off. the fix for power armor is super simple, reintroduce the idea that you need special training to use power armor and reduce the number of fusion cores in the world substantially. this will gate power armor off and make it a mostly late game item that you need to be careful with. the minigun should have somewhat higher damage, slightly lower fire rate, and also should not be present in concord at the start. maybe replace it and the power armor with a grenade launcher and some nice combat armor in a locked chest in the airship or something like that. and make them optional to the quest of saving the Minutemen. most of the explosive heavy weapons are pretty good but it's weird that there's no grenade launchers or anything like that. the gatling laser is fine if a bit op but i think there should also be other heavy energy weapons like tesla canons and plasma casters to complement it. the fat man is ridiculously strong but given that it takes either cheats, an absurd number of caps, or a long time to get one it's fine. the junk jet is great and i will hear no arguments.
for unarmed weapons there needs to be a greater variety and more to separate them than just damage. maybe damage type can vary more. the deathclaw gauntlet is super under powered compared to the powerfist so amp its damage and maybe give it a dangerous bleed effect. and let the player either incorporate unarmed weapons into their power armor or use them while wearing it.
energy weapons need their rifles and pistols separated at minimum. why can i turn a tiny laser pistol into a huge sniper rifle? the institute models should be sleeker and less boxy. don't let them take up a third of the screen. they should be as powerful as the standard laser weapons plus an effect unique to institute weapons, maybe they drain power armor or shut down robots with enough shots. and institute plasma weapons should probably reduce armor condition more than standard plasma. gamma guns are great as is.
speaking of armor condition, bring back equipment durability. it's such a good mechanic and it would fit great with Fallout 4's expanded crafting system.
single piece armors need to be stronger to match the multi piece sets. particularly for faction soldiers. it's absurd that coursers have worse armor than the gen 1s they fight with. Combat armor and Synth armor need more to differentiate themselves and Synth armor needs a complete redesign to not look like absolute shit (except the helmets, those kick ass) the Marine armor also doesn't look great and it's way way too heavy to be useful but it's very effective and could be good with a slight redesign so it didn't clip like crazy and slightly lower weight.
for melee weapons the fast swing speed group needs a significant expansion and a damage boost so they aren't completely irrelevant, the medium needs to have at least 1 proper energy blade, the slow is mostly ok but my god why the hell can you just make a rocket sledge? it makes the standard super sledge completely redundant. more variety in legendary effects too. they'll have their own section but for now, it's weird that pickman's blade is just a weaker throatslicer, Kremv's tooth looks awesome but the effect is terrible, Atom's judgement on the other hand is just incredible 10/10 no notes.
for guns, i want a better variety and a larger ammo variety. i don't necessarily have a problem with rifles using .45 ammo but it's weird that it's so common whereas the only pistols that use it are pipe weapons. maybe the combat rifle could use 5.56 or 5mm instead and we could have a combat pistol that used .45. combat pistols could have a similar skin to the deliverer only larger and silver instead of black. in fact, make the deliverer one of these. the hunting rifle needs a damage boost to function as the game's go to ballistic sniper, and should start off with a stock. the shotguns are really good but there should be 20 and 12 gauge versions. ive never been able to make myself give a single fuck about the assault rifle but it definitely needs a different model and some way to differentiate itself. maybe slightly higher rate of fire than the combat rifle but slightly lower damage and it automatically comes with a reflex sight like New Vegas' marksman carbine. i think giving it a model similar to the radium rifle would be good, but without all the weird extra bits slapped on. that way we can tell the radium rifle was made by altering the assault rifle. the handmade rifle needs a new name but otherwise i like it, especially the fact that depending on how good you are with bashing, automatic weapons, and non auto rifles you get different upgrades.
finally legendary weapons and armor. not gonna sugarcoat it, these SUCK. ive played over 2,600 hours of Fallout 4 and ive found maybe 4 good random legendaries across all my playthroughs. and all 4 were completely broken. most legendary effects are either borderline useless like ghoul slayers or exterminators, or absolutely absurd like explosive, instigating, and 2 shot. and even the best effects are entirely dependent on the weapon you find them on. explosive and never ending are probably the best examples. explosive turns an otherwise terrible weapon like the submachine gun into an alright weapon like the spray and pray, a great weapon like the radium rifle into a fantastic one with the kiloton radium rifle, and a pretty good weapon like the combat shotgun into a completely game breaking meat grinder. it's way too powerful. Never Ending is the opposite problem, with one glaring exception. for most weapons, Never Ending just makes you never have to reload. this is ok for early low capacity weapons like the double barreled shotgun, but completely useless on anything with a decent clip size or high damage, which is literally everything after the super early game, and on one weapon in particular it's completely broken. because of a weird glitch Never Ending gives the Gatling laser *literally infinite ammo* and since the gatling laser is already one of the most potentially powerful weapons in the game, this combination is also completely game breaking. I'll be honest, I don't really know how to fix legendaries, other than to remove the glitches and make at least some of them removable and craftable.

Hey y’all, I have ghoul OCs.
The first two are Greta and Drew, they’re both Fallout 4 OCs that I sort of made using in game ghoul settlers.
Greta is the Sheriff/head guard at the re-settled Covenant. She spends her time monitoring the ham radio that’s connected to Radio Freedom. She wears a FO3 style sheriff duster and has a laser pistol.
Drew is a guard and recent addition to the Slog. She wears merc cruiser armor and wields a mini gun.
Then there’s Harriet who is a Fallout 76 character. She’s the daughter of Njada and the Raider Punk Ashton (headcanon name). When 2025 rolls in I’ll be making her into a ghoul. She’s a character in my story: Children of the Wastes and has a brief cameo in I am Not Shaun.

well alright i started fallout new vegas for the first time last night and i have no idea if i'm doing it right
i did tutorial stuff except i accidentally clicked finish tutorial after shooting cans so i guess that happened, i ignored the goodsprings quest thingy cause i don't want to screw over goodsprings but i also don't want to have the powder gangers mad at me, i tried to head for the strip but then some guy told me there's a fuckton of deathclaws to the north so i went around that. ...in attempting to go around the deathclaw pit or whatever the fuck it was i stumbled into black rock mountain (i think that was the name) and some guy named Neil told me to stay away from there cause there's invisible super mutants or whatever the fuck. so i went around that too and ended up at Helios One which was cool i did the cool stuff in Helios One by vaporizing 2 protectrons with my laser pistol and blowing up 4 more with a grenade thingy, which got me to level 2, and then i got a repair robot to fix the main terminal and set it to give the whole area power. which is a good thing i think. i then had to stand on the balcony on top of the tower because it was like 1 am and i had to wait until 9 am to turn it on, so i waited there for like 15 minutes or so and then i turned it on, went back to Ignacio and got xp to level 3 and a cool-ass sciency book. i then kept heading towards the strip again on my way there i found a trading post thingy which had two people who acted like they wanted to die in it and also this girl in sackcloth who is following me around now. Her name is Veronica she's part of the Brotherhood of Steel she lets me craft shit and she punches shit really good. also she's a lesbian. that's super cool. she's great. i went to the strip (FINALLY) and there was a big-ass wall everywhere but i got into freeside? and i still can't get into the like main strip or whatever but i've been doing stuff around freeside. and i'm still level 3 cause i haven't gotten enough xp from the quests for level 4 yet. no idea if i've done this properly because everything i had read said there was a bunch of really deadly stuff in the way of the strip that you needed to wait until higher levels to get through. but i dunno i'm in freeside now

Okay so I'm playing Fallout NV for the first time and I never realized just how fucking terrifying this game is. Like what the fuck, no one ever told me this. Worst part is is its in multiple different ways of terrifying. Terrifying as in "Holy shit I'm going to die", "Holy shit that thing won't die", and "Holy shit thank God I didn't choose a harder difficulty or else I'd die".
I played Fallout 3 and 4. 3 had really tough fights that just needed me to be smarter about fighting them, or just have a lot of bullets. 4 was just a power fantasy, didn't need to spend a lot of time thinking during fights, even legendaries weren't all that difficult. New Vegas? Nah, man, that's a completely different story.
You meet a baby death claw and the fifty shotgun shells thrown into its face don't even scratch it. You go into a "Kill these ghouls for me" quest, your 10m pistol has a good hundred rounds in it and you're feeling pretty confident. Next thing you know, you're down to single digits in ammo, the ghouls you hear could be right next to you or across the building, the atmosphere is terrifying, your head, right arm, and both of your legs are crippled, Nightkin are hunting you down, you're completely lost, and you maxed out your gun perk which sucks because the only ammo you're finding is for LASER GUNS. Then the fucking Legendary Caeser's Assassins that come to kick your ass every other hour that you have to spend all of your resources killing.
I'm stuck having to fight battles that happen randomly across the wasteland, leaving me and my potential allies in it pretty bruised, I have to rely on my allies a lot during tough fights, plan out battles, and manage my resources. I can't just keep all my caps, I have to actually buy ammo and food and medical equipment because the irradiated wasteland sure didn't preserve a lot of that, and I can't carry a lot of it because I'm not a strength build. Named NPCs die constantly, unnamed NPCs are kicking my ass, and I have to walk so much.
Worst part is, I'm enjoying every second of it. This is substantially better than Fallout 4. The quests are fun, the characters are lively, the factions are really cool, the world building is amazing, and I genuinely want to keep playing all the time. The world just feels... alive. I am following my own story but countless others are happening throughout it. I haven't felt this strongly about a game since 2010s Minecraft and Activisionless Blizzard. I really do think I'm going to replay this game for a long, long time, and I completely understand why it was recommended so much. Thank all of y'all for telling me about this game and peer-pressuring me into playing it. It is all so worth it.

Men after showing you the most conventionally beautiful woman and saying “hear me out”
Meanwhile women showing you someone who looks like they’ve been left in a microwave for too long
Ps: I understand this is a pretty hefty overgeneralisation but I don’t mean every individual man and every individual woman all feel this way. It’s more my take on the idea of “the male gaze” and “the female gaze” in a way and also the joke that women tend to find more random/obscure things or characters attractive. If you’re a man and don’t like the vault girl oversexyfied ai bs then good on you. If you’re a man and you also wanna fuck Joshua Graham good on you. If you don’t fit into any category at all then good on you! The post isn’t about you.

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. STATS - REVAMPED
I did a Fallout 4 version of these a while back, so now it's time for the Fallout: New Vegas version.
STRENGTH - Strength governs how much weight players can carry as well as how effective melee attacks will be. I put it at a 1 in the other version not because I think Norm is especially fragile due to being short, but because I had a lot less points to work with and they were needed elsewhere. I can see him at about a 3, probably no higher than that.
PERCEPTION - Perception covers the skills of Explosives, Lockpick, and Energy Weapons (i.e. laser/plasma pistols/rifles) and determines the range that red compass markings show up on the HUD to indicate enemy threats. I don't think we've seen any conclusive evidence that Norm possesses these particular skills yet, but his Perception is quite high by default.
ENDURANCE - Endurance is a measure of overall physical fitness, providing bonuses to the total number of Health Points, Environmental Resistance, and the Survival and Unarmed skills.
CHARISMA - High Charisma will increase the base disposition of other characters, and governs the Barter and Speech skills. I know this is something of an unpopular opinion since the fanon consensus is that Norm has absolute minimal charisma, but I think he has more than most people will give him credit for. It’s just that instead of using his charisma to de-escalate or persuade people non-violently the way his sister makes an effort to, Norm uses his to say things that can upset people. He pushes their boundaries and tests how they react and exploits weaknesses in their logic or authority. He'd be more likely to take the option to lie or intimidate someone with his intelligence.
INTELLIGENCE - Intelligence is tied to the Science, Repair, and Medicine skills. Being the son of Rose and Hank MacLean, it's no surprise that Norm definitely makes frequent use of the Science skill, easily hacking the Overseer's terminal in Vault 32 and then Betty's in 33. Following after his Tagged Skills, Repair and Medicine come in around the 4th and 5th highest.
AGILITY - Agility affects the Guns and Sneak skills, as well as the number of Action Points (AP) available in V.A.T.S. I am hesitant to accept everything about Norm's build in the mobile game as canon, but I do kind of like that he carries a tranq gun by default. He would probably be forced to ditch it much sooner than Lucy did and upgrade to something more capable, but I like the idea that like his sister, his first instinct when the matter is put in his hands could be to incapacitate, not kill unless absolutely necessary and unavoidable. When it comes to Sneak, we see plenty of evidence that this is one of his stronger skills.
LUCK - High luck increases all skills slightly and improves the chance of scoring a critical hit with all weapons. I don't have much to contribute for this one other than giving Norm a small boost on the skills he's already good at.
STRENGTH: 3
PERCEPTION: 8
ENDURANCE: 4
CHARISMA: 4
INTELLIGENCE: 9
AGILITY: 6 (+1)
LUCK: 6
SKILLS
Barter - 13
Energy Weapons - 21
Explosives - 21
Guns - 19
Lockpick - 36
Medicine - 23
Melee - 11
Repair - 23
Science - 38
Sneak - 34
Speech - 13
Survival - 13
Unarmed - 13
Tagged Skills: Lockpick, Science, Sneak (Basically the way I play every RPG. Don't like to be locked out of shit.)
PERKS
Swift Learner - You gain an additional 10% whenever experience points are earned.
Friend of the Night - Your eyes adapt quickly to low-light conditions.
TRAITS
Small Frame - Due to your small size, you have +1 AGI, but your limbs are more easily crippled. (25% extra limb damage)

Fallout S1:E2 - The Target
More world building and starting the main storyline. To the general audience it might be a win. For the more knowledgeable and Fallout fans it’s a bit rough in my opinion. It’s zany and fun but over all light on moving along the story. Kinda feels more like a filler.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Spoilers and Deep Dive~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok so we meet presumably the Enclave. Interesting that they are heavy on laser weapons since historically/canonically they were more fans of plasma weapons. We got a blink-and-you-miss tease of a super mutant. Obligatory dog insertion, although it’s funny they went with a Belgian Malinois to avoid the Dogmeat call back. Dr. Wilzig, I hope, has nothing to do with the FEV or I’m gonna flip shit. Storm troopers have better aim than that turret from 6ft away.
How the fuck did Maximus attach himself to Titus’ armor? Also cool I guess the vertibird just fucked off back to base? So no one is gonna call it a yao guai? Ok cool. Titus has a flashlight on his helmet and refuses to turn it on when exploring a dark cave? Got it. Titus has to be the most baby-back bitch made knight in BoS history. You ran screaming from a yao guai while in power armor. Then apparently died?!?!? That wasn’t a plot death at all 🙄. Also that yao guai went blow for blow with Titus but then went down with two shots to the head? I mean I have to give them credit for bringing back the 10mm pistol from Fallout 1 &2, but I don’t remember it being that strong.
The moron guy scene is just stupid and pointless. Unless you are trying to make survivors out to be idiots. The writers seem to not be able to make up their minds to whether power armor is a hulking heavy suit or just cool lightweight semi tough thing you wear. Maximus either has no idea or no care about using too much power and needing a new core to power it. The chicken fucker scene is just…😐. It also shows more of this thing of Maximus trying to be the new fighter for justice of the Wasteland. McScuse me! When did Tony Stark work on T60s? There is a jetpack for T60s in Fallout 4 but that’s a big loud heavy thing that takes actual fuel. Not some wrist jet things.
So I have A LOT to say about Filly. First off wow it’s amazing how many old Fords, Chevys, and Lincoln’s were just all around this one area. Also who the fuck brought all these Cessnas and 747s? Not a single in universe version of car or motorcycle is present. Like you guys didn’t even try to make things seem canon. Another interesting thing of note is there are no animals/bugs. No wild dogs, bloat flies, bloodbugs, mole rats, radscorpions, giant ants, iguanas, radstags or even deathclaws. We saw one yao guai, one brahmin, one radroach and the dogs from the Enclave site(including CX404). There were the goats but canonically the only goat like things that survived were bighorners and they are in the Mojave. Another curious thing is that they are no other ghouls next to The Ghoul (Goggins), not even feral ghouls or glowing ones. Now Ma June says "your kind isn’t welcome here", perpetuating the canonically held dislike/distrust of ghouls. So wouldn’t that make a ghoul armed to the teeth sitting in the middle of Filly kinda conspicuous?
Now onto the shoot out and fight with “Knight Titus”. Time for nerdy gun shit. Someone aims their PPSh, how they got a Russian submachine gun who knows. The PPSh was the basis for the styling of the combat shotguns in Fallout 3 & 4, but it was never a full gun in those games. We see our first instance of a pipe weapon which is nice. Now The Ghouls’ shotgun has never been seen in canon and is based on an MTs255 a Russian revolver based shotgun. The pistol used by Maximus is some weird Desert Eagle that’s never been in canon. Which is funny because you could have just used a Desert Eagle which was already in Fallout 1
The robot foot things is 100% tv show fabricated. Which I’m amazed that Ma June can even move so easily after being shot…in the knee….on her dominant leg. The reviving of CX404 was a nice touch. Seeing as we can all agree killing a dog is a no-no. Although she did attack The Ghoul about 20min ago, so I don’t understand why she would be so keen on tagging along with him. The ripper vibroblade being foldable is new and kind of odd seeing as that would compromise its strength. Lucy also amazingly gets over her crisis of faith over cutting a man’s head off quite quickly. Seeing as two days ago she wasn’t too keen on violence.
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This one was definitely a miss for me. It wasn’t terrible and not one thing made it bad. It was a lot of little things that just kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Making it feel more like a wacky silly filler episode. Which doesn’t bode well seeing as this is the second episode in the series.
Final Score - 5/10
3, 18, 26, 30, and 32? (Dealer’s choice on OC)
Thank you!!! 🧡
Fallout OC Asks
3. What is their SPECIAL?
Alicia - S3, P4, E3, C8, I6, A3, L5
Evie - S4, P8, E6, C8, I5, A8, L7
Aidan - S4, P9, E4, C3, I4, A9, L2
Lucille - S5, P4, E6, C5, I6, A5, L5
18. Do they have any disabilities, mutations, or implants / enhancements? Do they have any chronic illnesses?
Evie and Lucille are both Synths so they are both resistant to radiation. All 4 have some form of chronic pain from the build up of injuries. Aidan has had the longest exposure to radiation of all of them
26. How would others describe them / their disposition?
Alicia - Kind but reserved. Outside of the persona she puts on as General Clarke she is quiet and thoughtful, but blind to anything involving her family
Evie - Friendly and passionate. Perceptive ones would get the feeling she's trying to hide something.
Aidan - Blunt and Loyal. Bleeding heart buried deep deep down. Those who are close to him are all that matter and he would die to protect them
Lucille - Timid but good-humoured. In combat she is ruthless.
30. What decisions have they made or actions have they done that affect their canon wasteland? (Did they blow up Megaton, have they killed/spared any major characters, etc.)
Derailed takes place before the events of F4. Its events lead to Boomer becoming the leader of Outpost Zimonja and certain events aid Evie and the Railroad in Liar Liar’s timeline, such as the awareness of the fall of Augusta safehouse.
Alicia is the Sole Survivor and completes Acts 1 & 2 and all that entails (saving Nick, killing Kellogg, Entering the Institute etc) and also helps with various side quests and companions (Nick, MacCready etc)
Whilst the Institute is suspicious of Bunker Hill, M4-29 (later Evie) confirms Railroad activities there and leads directly to the eventual Battle of Bunker Hill, though her own self-preservation means that the Institute never gets names or faces. She completes the Railroad quest line from Boston After Dark onwards, whilst Alicia completes the Institute quest line.
There's more but that'd be spoilers (and even more of a wall of text)
32. What is their go-to weapon or weapon class?
Evie - Deliverer
Alicia - at first it was her 10mm, modded to all hell. Then once she joined the institute she favoured laser weaponry
Aidan - back during his raider days he shared a .45 rifle with the rest of the lookout team. He has an allocated pipe pistol from the gang at Outpost Zimonja but has a secret 10mm that he keeps for emergencies
Lucille - Lucille has a scavenged 10mm she bartered from Tenpines Bluff. After the events of Derailed she favours a shotgun
the Courser fights in Fallout 4 always struck me as disappointing. obviously the mechanics of Fallout kinda preclude some classic moves like dodging, parkour, and more complex hand to hand than punch the guy but I think that they could still be improved. a fight like this is supposed to be an event, Coursers aren't flies to swat, they're elite combat synths trained in espionage and strategy. so here are a few ways I think these fights could be made more interesting.
improve their gear. Coursers are supposed to be the best of the best fighters. why are they equipped with such terrible weapons and armor? luckily this is super easy to fix. first, boost the protective power of the Courser coat to be on par with a full set of combat armor or better. this makes it not just a difficult obstacle to overcome if you want to kill a Courser but also a valuable reward if you succeed. maybe even allow the player to alter the coat's cosmetics with the BOS, Railroad, or Minutemen logos or something similar to turn them into trophies you can wear around. secondly, improve and expand on the Institute line of weapons. this touches a bit on my post about fixing the weapons here. instead of just the boxy ass laser pistols and rifles the institute weapons should be sleek and curved, powerful and light, in many ways just a straight upgrade to the weapons they're based on. and they shouldn't be just lazers, add lazer gatling weapons, Institute plasma, energy melee weapons, an Instute gausse rifle, etc. and give the Coursers access to all these weapons.
give the Coursers small teams to work in, gen 1s and 2s that provide fire support, draw ememy fire, and identify threats the Courser doesn't see. this would make the Coursers hard to sneak up on and boost their threat level. without a team it could be easy to bring down a Courser by just sniping at them, with this team they feel much more protected and dangerous.
make the places you fight Coursers more than just big arenas. if you have to fight the Courser in a single room then fill that room with cover, hazards, and even bystanders. if possible give the Courser and their team free reign of the building you fight them in, turning it into a game of cat and mouse instead of a gladiator match. if they're out in the Commonwealth let them roam around and move throughout the world in search of their target. and even let the Coursers target you if you're an enemy of the Institute. they get to go around the Commonwealth chasing you down like Caesar's assassin squads in NV.
Book 2: “For the People,” Ch. 19, an excerpt
This is one of my absolute favorite parts in my fanfiction series for Fallout 4 and I just had to share it with you guys. Books are currently being edited to fit my OC’s new name since I’ve developed her beyond “Nora,” but there are 3 books still fully readable if anyone’s interested here. Book 2 is ranked number 1 in “#johnhancock”
(Long excerpt.)
[Nora]
I smashed through the glass of the Prydwen’s window. The vertibird crashed against the metal frame, too big to fit inside the room, and came to a full stop, flinging me forward out of the pilot seat. My head hit the front windshield, the bulletproof glass sustaining the blow and only cracking. My body ragdolled to the floor of the vertibird and rolled out the side door.
I landed on the floor of the Prydwen and gasped for air. The blow had knocked the breath out of me and popped my neck so hard, I thought for a moment I had broken it. I was seeing double and laid there, dumbfounded, trying to regain my sense of urgency.
I slowly reached for the guns on my hips to make sure they were still there. My whole body ached. As my eyesight returned, I looked around to find all my extra ammo strewn around the wreckage; the strap of my bag snapped off during the wreck and its contents were flung about.
I took a deep breath and tried to stand up. Shards of broken glass crunched against my hands, feet, and knees as I moved my body across the floor. The metal frame of the window and pieces of the vertibird that had broken off tore at my pants legs and sliced through my skin like butter, prompting me to slow my pace to a crawl and be more careful. I couldn’t sustain many more wounds.
“You!” someone growled.
I dizzily looked up to see a soldier that I had met before. he was the blond soldier that accompanied Danse and Maxson that day at Goodneighbor. He didn’t have his power armor on this time, but that didn’t stop him from aiming his laser pistol at me in his shaky hands. His eyes were wide with fear, sweat rolling down his cheeks.
“Don’t you dare move,” he warned.
“Aren’t you going to shoot me?” I grunted past the pain.
“I fucking should... but Maxson would probably want you alive.”
“Who cares what he wants?” i muttered as I made an attempt to stand.
“I said don’t move! All I have to do is call in my soldier pals and they’ll take you hostage!”
“Do it yourself,” I pressed. I knew kids like him lacked nerve.
“I... I can’t. I’m not authorized to do that. I was demoted after leaving Goodneighbor for ‘threatening peaceful relations through verbal demoralization.’ What relations?!” He spat in my direction.
I got to my feet and drew my gun on him slowly. “You don’t have to do this. Give up.”
His trigger finger twitched, prompting me to pull my trigger. I shot him in the shoulder -- a non-lethal blow. He dropped his weapon and cried out in pain. I could hear the loud footsteps of more hostiles coming toward the room from behind him.
I straightened up to a threatening posture and drew my other pistol, both guns in hand. If this was my last stand, I would die knowing that I did my damnedest to protect the people of the Commonwealth. To protect my son. To protect Hancock. My friends and my loyal soldiers.
I could see power armor suits running down the hall.
“Don’t shoot!” said one.
I was conflicted by this. If I didn’t shoot first, they’d surely kill me.
“Don’t come any closer!” I threatened.
From behind them stepped out an old man in a long blue robe with a tall brown collar. “Don’t shoot. I’m Proctor Quinlan. We’re here to help.”
“Like hell,” I hissed. “What’s Maxson planning?”
He shook his head. “Maxson has locked himself inside the armory with the rest of our weapons and ammunition. I had no intentions of rising up against Maxson with the rest of these pacifists, but I can’t let all this technology and research and historical data go up in flames. I refuse. This is my life’s work we’re talking about!”
“... Are there any more hostile Brotherhood soldiers on the ship?”
“At the moment, no. We’ve subdued... or killed those that defended Maxson,” he said with disdain. He looked down at the injured blond boy on the floor. “Take him away,” he said to one of the soldiers.
The soldier dragged the crying boy out of the room.
The fighting outside had died down as well. There weren’t many gunshots, but the sounds of vertibirds landing in the hangar could be heard.
“Where is the armory? Take me to him,” I demanded.
“I’m afraid I cannot do that. I have no intentions of taking you to our armory.”
“But, sir,” interjected one of the soldiers behind him.
“Maxson will have to come out sooner or later, and when he does, he will answer for this madness. Until then, an outsider has no business interfering with our storerooms, especially those of which contain our weaponry.”
“Nora?!” shouted Danse from down the hall behind Quinlan.
They made way for him to enter.
“Danse? You’re alive?” asked Quinlan.
“very much alive,” he confirmed. “There’s no time to explain anything right now. Where’s Maxson?”
“Locked inside the armory so no one can have access to more ammo or weapons. He’s waiting out the fighting. No doubt he expects that those who follow his recent ideals would remove those of us that have committed treason, but it seems quite the opposite if you’re here.”
Danse entered the room and looked between me and the wreckage. “Nora, you did this?”
I nodded weakly. “I don’t know how to fly a vertibird...”
“I can see that.”
“Out of the way,” demanded Hancock down the hall. He pushed his way into the room.
[Hancock]
“Nora?”
When I got inside, the whole room was in shambles. There she stood, bleeding down her forehead, blood staining her messy long, blonde hair. Her pants were ripped and covered in blood. She stood with two guns in hand and the expression of someone who had been backed into a corner. But, God, she was a beautiful mess.
“Everyone clear out,” I barekd. “If the fightin’s over, we need to get the wounded taken care of.”
“The fighting’s... over?” she asked.
“Yeah, Sunshine. For now.”
She slowly dropped to her knees onto the glassy floor. “Thank God... I don’t know how much more of a beating I can take...”
I walked over to her and rubbed her back. Then I looked at the vertibird behind her. “Heh heh. You always know how to make an entrance. You okay?”
She gave me a weak nod, but her breathing was labored. I knew she needed rest. She needed checked for major injuries, too, like a concussion or fractures from the looks of how she crashed that thing. I just hoped we had enough time for it. First, we had to find Maxson.
“Hancock...”
“Hm?”
“Help me up and we’ll go find Maxson.”
“You don’t need to be goin’ anywhere. We’ll find you a place to rest and a Stim’. I’ll handle Maxson.” I took her arm and put my other behind her back to help her stand.
“Out of the question,” she hissed. “He’s mine.” She reached down and picked her hat up off the floor as she regained her footing.
My mouth became a thin line as I took in her hateful expression. “I ain’t arguin’ with you. You’re covered in wounds. You need to rest. Adrenaline’ll only get ya so far, ya know.”
“Hancock’s right,” added Danse. “You should rest. Leave Maxson to me.”
I shot him a glare. “I said I’ll take care of it.”
“He’s my superior. It should be my job to end this.”
“He killed ghouls, he killed synths, and he killed Minutemen. Any one of us would have a stake in his death at this point.”
“In the end, this isn’t your fight.”
My blood was starting to boil. “You’re really gonna stand here and tell me it ain’t my fight, when you’re the one that had to be talked into coming out here in the first place instead of hiding in that bunker for all of fucking eternity? Look at the shape Nora’s in. This bastard is gonna pay, and it’s gonna be by my hand. This shit’s personal now.”
“Stay out of it, ghoul.”
“Not a chance in hell, synth.”
“Stop!” Nora demanded.
I had all but forgotten I was tryin’ to help her out the door; I came to a complete stop when Danse started his bullshit.
“I’ve already decided,” she said. “We’re not putting a bullet between his eyes unless he forces our hand. He needs to answer for what he’s done.”
“... You’re kiddin’,” was all I could muster.
New Year, New Character 2: Day 17
Kayleigh, Tech-Savvy out of her depth Scribe, Fallout: the Roleplaying Game For people unfamiliar with the Fallout series, the Brotherhood of Steel are one of the largest organisations in the post-apocalyptic wastes, at least in terms of geographic coverage. The group are organised like a knightly or monastic order, with chapters operating across the continent. While the group have a common goal or recovering pre-war knowledge and technology, what they plan to do with it, and how they interact with other groups, changes from chapter to chapter. So they can be allies, adversaries, or both, depending on how events go. There are two principle sub-divisions: Paladins handle combat and asset recovery; scribes handle research and development. Sometimes Scribes are sent out on missions to provide assistance to the Paladins. Scribe Kayleigh is not having a good time. Tasked, along with a pair of Paladins, with finding signs of a functional GECK device, she was dropped off in what feels like the middle of nowhere with few clues and fewer allies. And not three hours later, a Deathclaw had killed both the Paladins. Kayleigh only survived by the damage her escorts dealt, and the timely intervention of a mysterious gunslinger. The subsequent string of misadventures threw her into an encounter with Jennifer and Connery. Which may be the first clue she needs on finding a GECK, if not for the minor complication of Jennifer's exile. Much to everyone's surprise, Kayleigh was able to repair a modified Mr. Handy model service robot, who seems to be running programming from several variants. Kayleigh has named the machine Charles, and Charlie-ball (as Connery calls them) is proving quite handy to have around.
