Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS) extends its highest salute to the 10 revolutionaries who were martyred in a sustained military operation by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on the island of Panay over the past two weeks. We are deeply saddened to learn about the reports that among the martyred was Concha Araneta, a 73-year-old NDF representative in Panay and NDF peace consultant.
The island of Panay has faced escalating militarization, particularly following Duterte’s Executive Order No. 70, which established the NTF-ELCAC and implemented the “whole-of-nation-approach”, and Memorandum Order No. 32, which increased military deployment in the region. This trend of militarization and the accompanying violence against the masses have continued under the current US-Marcos regime.
The recent International People’s Tribunal (IPT) specifically denounced the Tumandok Massacre in 2020 in Panay as a war crime committed by US imperialism and its local allies, where nine Indigenous Tumandok leaders were extrajudicially killed by AFP forces. Rural communities in Panay, especially the Tumandok, have suffered continuous fascist attacks, including hamletting by the AFP. The AFP’s intensive military operations over the past two weeks have brought further extreme violence and violations of international humanitarian law. Reports by Human Rights organizations indicate that there were attacks on peasants’ livelihoods, withholding of the remains by the AFP and that at least six of the martyred revolutionaries bore injuries which suggest the possibility of torture, cruel treatment, and summary execution.
The AFP’s counterinsurgency operations, falsely dubbed ‘counter-terrorism’, are in fact a terror campaign against the Filipino people who are struggling for liberation from foreign domination, landlord exploitation and a corrupt fascist state. The revolution remains as valid as ever, since these basic problems to Philippine society remain present.
Why else would thousands of Filipinos answer the call to go to the countryside and serve the masses in an armed revolution, if not because they clearly see the oppressive and exploitative nature of foreign domination and local reaction? The semi-colonial and semi-feudal system holds no viable future for the majority of the Filipino people. Even though the US-Marcos regime likes to pretend and propagate that the Filipino people in struggle are either foolish or brainwashed, those who join the armed struggle are among the bravest, sharpest, and willing to sacrifice their lives in order to serve the people. And their deaths weigh heavier than all the mountains in Panay, as they gave their lives for the liberation of the Filipino people and of all oppressed.
Those of us who met ka Concha when she was overseas to participate in the peace negotiations as NDF consultant, remember her as warm, dedicated and with good humour. She gave her whole life to the revolution, and to all of us from FFPS, she is a shining example of the resilience, compassion and revolutionary spirit of the Filipino people in their struggle for national and social liberation.
As US imperialism and its allies escalate violence, especially against those engaged in national liberation struggles, it is of the utmost urgency for all of us to strengthen our solidarity with oppressed peoples. We know that the Philippine ruling classes and their US imperialist overlords will not relinquish their wealth and power voluntarily. They willingly wage war not only on the Filipino people who resist their rule but on all basic classes of Philippine society. But the Filipino people demonstrate that revolution is the only solution. Sacrifice is an inevitable part of this struggle, and to honor those who have given their lives, we must intensify our own efforts.
For us, the best way to honor the martyrs is to strengthen our commitment, our revolutionary optimism and our all-rounded solidarity to the Philippine revolution. Let us ensure that for every martyr, a hundred solidarity activists take up the work of supporting the Filipino people and their just revolution. As we approach our Global Day of Action on August 26, which would have been ka Concha’s 74th birthday, let us pay tribute to the martyrs of the Philippine revolution with our most extensive global effort, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to support the Philippine revolution. The Filipino people’s revolution still grows stronger and we continue to support it until liberation!
Let us be brave like Ka Concha and all other martyrs, and all the fighting Filipino masses and stir up and spread the flames of solidarity with the Philippine revolution all around the world!

Baretang Bikolnon on Facebook: Couple Senior Citizen killed in fake encounter in Cawayan, Masbate
Human rights group and the family demand justice for the killed 2 senior citizens, a couple, in a fake encounter last February 5 in Purok 5, Brgy. Tuburan, Cawayan, Masbate.
According to the Philippine Army (PA), at 7:00 AM, its 2nd Infantry Battalion encountered ten members of the New People's Army (NPA) which reportedly lasted for eight minutes. Couple Pedro Regala, 78, and Florencia Regala, 67, were killed and tagged as NPA members.
The NPA-Masbate, Jose Rapsing Command, expressed that there was no encounter with the military and the victims are not members of their group.
"The Masbate Revolutionary Movement is determined to hold the military responsible and pay dearly for their heinous killing of the elderly couple," said Ka Luz del Mar, spokesperson of NPA Jose Rapsing Command, in their statement. "The weak and defenseless couple was picked up from their home, taken to a remote part of the creek, shot mercilessly, loaded with ammo pouches and brought out [that they were] killed in the encounter."
The Regala Family condemned the brutal killing of the victims and demanded for justice.
"It's hard to accept that you were treated by merciless people like this," granddaughter Eulaica Regala stated in her social media account.
"No one has the right to take life, only God can take back our life," said grandson Lidions Invento. "This kind of incident is not new. We wanted to reveal the truth but nothing will happen because there is no justice for people like us who are poor."
"Go to the place, you will see how much pain happened to the two if it is right for them to experience such brutal killing," Invento said.
KARAPATAN - Masbate extends its condolences and sympathies to the orphans of the victims and is determined to unite and help them achieve justice.
According to Karapatan - Masbate, the recent brutal killing in the province was another reason to abolish the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
"Contrary to the peace and development of the NTF-ELCAC, it only brought peace to the grave and profit for the few, KARAPATAN - Masbate stated.
KARAPATAN - Masbate also calls on MasbateĂąos who are disgusted by the brutal killing of the Regala couple to join the protest on February 25 to hold President Bongbong Marcos Jr. accountable and its "fascist minions" in their crimes against the people.
"Let's act together for justice," the human rights group said.

My NVMe Needs - Part 3: Installation and trial & error (w/ my paper dolls) [Recorded on Apr 21st, 2023]
So, here’s Part 3 of “My NVMe Needs“ (featuring my paper dolls). 😁 Actually, this is Part 1 of 2 videos that I've recorded, yesterday (April 21st, 2023).
And this part is the moment I've been waiting for, the installation & test using the two important upgrade items I need for my current PC. ⬆️🖥️😁 Plus, I'll share my overall thoughts, in Part 2 recorded video.
If you haven't seen my previous parts of the same topic, then I'll provide some links down below. ↓
• Part 1: Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD (1TB) Review [Apr 7th, 2023]
• Part 2: Thermalright M.2 2280 Pro Review [Apr 11th, 2023]
So, without further ado, let's get started:
✋ HOLD IT! ✋
• Okay so before I discuss my experience, let's discuss my recording process. I have 17 recorded videos 🎦📲on my smartphone (the Honor 8C), one of which is from the VLC media player 🎦🖥️. However, squeezing 17 videos in one package wouldn't fit in my (Tumblr) post 😕, so I decided to slice it in half to make a minimum of 500 MB per video post 🪓, not to mention, the adjustments, speeding up the process, and adding subtitles. 🎦✏️🖥️ And thus, I made two videos. It took 7 hours to finish these videos between 7 PM to 2 AM (Apr 21st to 22nd). And man, I'm all relieved after editing. So much so, I want a take a break after this, but I can't because I want to end my ambitious topic sooner before celebrating my birthday, next month (May 6th). Regardless, at least I'm all done with editing, and all was left is to type in with my thoughts. And uhh, if you see me shirtless, then my apologies for that, I completely forgot to wear a shirt before recording. lol 😅 Plus, it's damn heat season in my country (The Philippines), so it's hard enough to sweat my glands while progressing (, both daylight & night), you know. 🥵☀️ Anyways, let's get over with...
My Recorded & Edited Video (using Filmora 9): (pls watch) ↑ 🎦✏️🖥️
• Alright so, what you see here is I combine two techs in one digital memory sandwich before I connect it to my current PC. Yeah, I speed it up my thoughts because I've already add subtitles. So please, go watch my entire 8½ minute recording before you read my thoughts. Anyways, here are the photos I took before I proceed. ↓ [please see my 1st to 5th image(s)]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• See? What I told ya! It's like PB&J Sandwich, right you two?! They get it... But, please don't eat it. lol
• However, once I install my custom NVMe my PC won't read, and thus I need to do manual & painstaking troubleshooting (1st Round). It took me minutes to fix without disassembling it before it functions. What a relief! Here are more pictures before I firing up my PC. ↓ [please see my 6th & 7th image(s)]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
• What a thing of beauty, isn't it? What I don't like is the plastic peg. It should it go with metal screws over this. (just saying)
• Next, I need to open "Computer Management" for setting up my NVMe stick from switching "GPT" (which stands for "GUID Partition Table") to format with "NTFS" (which stands for "NT file system and the New Technology File System"), and then I proceed to install Samsung's provided "Data Migration". I also downloaded the "Samsung Magician" software in a form of the RAR file. Which, I'll discuss in my final part.
• Once my NVMe is formatted & installing the data migration, the latter automatically opens (at a slow pace). Sorry, my physical drive is having a rough day, but don't, my HD will be retired once I've done migrating. Before I start migration take a look at their capacity differences. Their quite an opposite when it comes to storage spaces of 400GB (Seagate Barracuda 7200) & 1TB (Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus NVMe). So anyway, I start the migration process & wait for couple of hours. ↓ [please see my 8th image]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
• [9th image ↑] And while we're wait, my paper dolls seem to be hungry. Luckily, I have a single fun size M&Ms for my beloved paper dolls! Take it, you two & eat share. Yum-yum!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
10th & 11th Image(s): ↑
• Hours later, the migration is almost complete! Until the physical drive went to halt the process despite the red light indicator immediately stopping blinking. *Sigh* We're SO CLOSE to reaching 100% migrating files & OS to my first owned NVMe stick! So, I guess we're gonna try again on the second attempt.
But, will it succeed? I don't know, so please click here to proceed Part 2 of the video → [CLICK ME!].
○ No overall thoughts this time around! ○
Well, that’s all for now!

Recover Lost Data From USB Drives: The Best Recovery Software To Use
Have you ever needed to recover lost data from a USB drive? It can be a downright terrifying experience for anyone as it can mean losing important files, photos, and other data. The good news is that there is software available that can help you in this situation. Read on to find out the best USB Drive Recovery Software to use when your USB drive needs rescuing!
Introduction to USB Drive Recovery Software
Assuming that you have a USB drive that is no longer working or is not recognized by your computer, there are a few things you can do to try and recover the data from the drive. This article will introduce you to some of the best USB drive recovery software on the market and give you step-by-step instructions on how to use each one.
First, let's take a look at what exactly a USB drive is. A USB drive is a small, portable device that is used to store and transfer data. They are often used to store music, videos, photos, and other types of files. They are also commonly used to transfer files between computers.
USB drives are typically made up of two parts: the hardware (the physical drive) and the storage (the electronic files stored on the drive). The hardware consists of the connectors, casing, and circuit board. The storage is what holds the actual data files.
When a USB drive stops working or is not recognized by your computer, it means that either the hardware or storage has failed. In some cases, both the hardware and storage may have failed. If this happens, it can be very difficult to recover the data from the drive.
However, there are some things you can do to try and recover lost data from a USB drive. One option is to use data recovery software.
What to Look for in a USB Drive Recovery Software
When you are looking for USB drive recovery software, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, the software should be able to recover data from a variety of file formats. This includes both common formats like FAT32 and NTFS, as well as less common ones like Ext2/3/4, HFS+, and ReFS.
Second, the software should be able to recover data from a variety of storage devices. This includes not only USB drives, but also hard drives, SSDs, memory cards, and more.
Third, the software should have a wide range of features. This includes things like being able to preview files before recovery, being able to recover data from damaged or corrupted files, and more.
Fourth, the software should be easy to use. This means that it should have a user-friendly interface and simple controls.
Finally, the software should be affordable. This means that it should be priced reasonably and offer a good value for the money.
How to Use a USB Data Recovery Program
When you accidentally delete important files from your USB drive, don't panic! There are a number of USB data recovery programs available that can help you recover your lost files.
To use a USB data recovery program, first connect your USB drive to your computer. Then, launch the program and follow the on-screen instructions to scan your drive for deleted files. Once the scan is complete, you'll be able to preview the recovered files and choose which ones you want to save.
Conclusion
Recovering lost data from USB drives can be a difficult and time-consuming process, but with the right recovery software, you can get back what was once thought to be lost forever. We hope that our guide has provided you with enough insight into the different types of USB Drive Recovery Software available so that you can make an informed decision on which one is best for your needs. With any luck, it won’t be too long before your precious files are back in your hands!

Tumblr media
oday, North America’s premier livestream shopping platform NTWRK announces a new collaboration with tech company Intel. In celebration of Intel® Evo™ Laptops, the two brands tapped visual artist King Saladeen to create the first ever and first to world Metaverse art collaboration, the Intel x King Saladeen NFT series.
West Philadelphia born and raised artist Raheem “King” Saladeen has worked with brands like NFL, Nike, Mercedes, Topps, Beats by Dre. Primarily self-taught, he’s become synonymous with his “Money Bear” works which helm a pop graffiti aesthetic. Saladeen has had his work displayed in the New York Stock Exchange & ComplexCon, partnered with Champion for an athletic wear capsule collection, and even has a 200-foot mural in the Philadelphia International Airport.
Since the age of five, Saladeen’s passion for the arts has been a consistent part of his life. Having been raised in a tough urban environment where artistic outlets were few and far between, Saladeen instead turned his attention to basketball. Through traveling, Saladeen saw numerous places where his eyes were opened to the landscapes, shapes and colors that were vastly different from what he saw on a day to day basis. These opportunities allowed him to daydream on a greater scale and be influenced and inspired in a fresh way. In an effort to promote fearlessness and the idea that no one should be boxed in, Saladeen’s art continues to meld the art world with fashion, music and now tech.
King Saladeen’s art focuses on intricate, futuristic and cutting edge design which makes a perfect pairing with a tech forward company like Intel. A champion of the digital space and innovative technologies, Saladeen has created numerous NTFs and believes that  Intel® Evo™ Laptops, can help artists take their work to the next level. By debuting this exclusive collection at Art Basel, both Intel and NTWRK are elevating King Saladeen’s creativity at one of the biggest art fairs in the world.

With an Intel® Evo™ Laptop, users don’t have to sacrifice performance, graphics or battery life to get a thin and light laptop. Intel spent thousands of hours studying the way people use their laptops in real life and collaborated with leading PC makers to co-engineer, optimize, and verify these laptop designs to deliver the ultimate mobile performance. The result is premium laptops that deliver an ideal combination of world-class performance; consistent responsiveness; and fast-charging, long-lasting battery, all in a stylish, thin, light form that allows users to move freely and stay productive wherever they are.

masterlist - part one - part two ½
“Oh, I could fucking snap that pretty little neck of yours.”
Elide smirked and crossed her arms, “Keep it in your pants, Salvaterre. We’re still at work, baby.”
From the other side of her office, Lorcan sent her a glare that could freeze Hellas’ fiery realm. He crossed the room in two large strides. His long, glossy hair was in disarray. Elide practically choked on her desire to smooth it back for him. She glanced around, quickly averting her eyes from Rowan’s pointed look. His fiancée beside him wore a delighted expression, almost as if she wished she was snacking on something right about now. “Lochan, c’mon. Listen to me. If we settle now, it’ll only allow big tech corporations to completely demolish software start-ups. You know I’m right.”
“If we push, we could end up with nothing and bankrupt our client! If we settle, that leaves Nox and Luca with enough money to further their technology.” She stood up and braced her hands against the glass surface of her desk. “Lorcan, I know that you want to set precedent–”
“It’s not about setting precedent, princess,” he snapped. “I don’t give a fucking shit if people know my name or not. I’m doing the right thing here and it’s insulting that you don’t see that.” Lorcan dropped the papers on her desk. He stepped back and ran his hands through his hair before twisting his locks into a messy bun. “You’re fucking impossible, Elide.”
Elide’s spine straightened, “ I’m impossible? This is my case and since the second I asked you for help, you’ve been–”
“You’re fucking it up, Elide! You’re scared of losing and leaving those kids with nothing so you’re playing it safe and–”
“I am not playing it safe , Lorcan. I’m playing it smart. This is what we learned in school. It’s how we’re supposed to do it.”
He scoffed, his words cutting, “Yeah, according to a second-year class. I never had you pegged as a coward, Elide. You’re scared and you’re hiding behind a gods-damned book . You know, I really used to think you were cut out for this, but I’m not so sure anymore.” Tears burned her throat. Elide flicked her watery eyes to the wall of windows and focused on the glittering city lights. Lorcan inhaled sharply, as if realising what he’d just said. “Princess, shit, I’m–”
“You’re not sorry, don’t you dare lie to me,” Elide whispered. She looked up at him, “You want the case that bad, Lorcan? Fine. It’s yours. Enjoy it, you bastard.” She shoved the case file box to him so hard that it slid off the smooth surface and on pure reflex, Lorcan caught it. Elide didn’t look at anyone while she strode out of her office.
She took the elevator up to the roof and walked across the gravel-covered roof to the railing. Elide leaned against it and then, because she couldn’t help herself anymore, she let a sob fall from her lips. Elide buried her face in her hands.
She cried softly until she heard the heavy metal door drag against the gravel as it was pushed open. Elide raised her head and hastily wiped her eyes, “If you’re here to grovel, I don’t want to hear it, Salvaterre.”
“He’s not. Aelin’s chewing him out right now.”
Elide turned, sighing softly. “What are you doing out here, Rowan? I want to be alone.” A gust of cold wind blew over her. Elide hugged her arms around herself and tucked her chin into her chest to conserve heat.
Rowan walked closer and draped her heavy wool coat over her shaking shoulders. “I thought you might be cold. Might want some company, too.” He opened his arms and Elide leaned into him. “Yeah,” he said as he folded her into his warm chest and rested his chin on her head. “I know, Ellie.”
“Every time,” she sniffled, pathetically, “every time I think we- we’re getting somewhere, we fight and- and lose whatever progress we’ve made. He isn’t even mine and I keep losing him.”
“I know,” Rowan said, his brogue strong and comforting. Unbeknownst to Elide, his face was set in a deep frown, all directed at the man who sat floors below them, being berated by a woman he towered over by at least a foot.
After a few minutes, Elide stepped back. She accepted the tissue Rowan procured and wiped her mascara tracks away. “I guess I should go back and… figure this out. Are you and Ae staying?”
“No, we’ve got dinner with my parents.”
Elide nodded and looped her arm through his elbow, “Let’s go, then.” Rowan wisely didn’t try to dissuade her and escorted her back down. Aelin was waiting by the elevators, her coat and scarf on. She carried her gloves and bag in hand and stepped up to hug Elide good-bye and fuss over her hair. “Ae,” Elide said, “I’m fine, really. Go, have dinner with Ro’s parents. I’ll call you tonight.”
“Alright. But if you need me, I can ditch those losers and come over.” Rowan cleared his throat and arched an unimpressed brow. Aelin sent him a loved-up grin and kissed Elide’s cheeks, “Bye, honey.”
“Good-bye, Elide,” Rowan said.
“Night, you two. Say hi to your parents for me.”
“Of course,” Rowan nodded his head and guided his fiancée into the waiting elevator.
Elide turned on her heels and slowly walked back through the empty office to hers. She looked through the glass wall and saw Lorcan. He was sitting on the low, modern leather couch and bent forward with his forearms against his thighs.
When she walked in, Lorcan shot to his feet, his eyes wide. “El, please, listen to me. I’m sorry. Really. I didn’t- I was- I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. None of it is true, you have to believe me. You- you’re an amazing lawyer, Lochan. I’m so fucking sorry.”
“I know, Lorcan. Really, I know. It’s not the first time one of us has said something we didn’t mean.”
Relief flooded his face, “Ok, um, yeah. That’s good.” He flashed her a rakish grin. Elide felt her own smile grow at the sight of his. She wasn’t too stubborn to deny that Lorcan was attractive and quite possibly the most attractive man she had ever laid eyes on, but when he smiled… she could only describe him as beautiful. “And, listen, I know you think we should settle, but–”
“Lor,” Elide laughed, “let’s order dinner before we get back to it, ok? I’m starving.”
Lorcan loosened his tie and lifted his eyebrows, “You aren’t trying to wine and dine me just so I’ll agree with you, right?” Elide just hummed noncommittally and walked to her desk. She leaned back against the edge as she picked up her phone and dialed the number to their favourite restaurant. He laughed and sat down, “Right, like that would ever happen.” He paused, waiting for her response. “Right, Elide?”
“Hmmm? Oh, yeah, never.” Never. Never. Never.
She hated that the thought of them never being together made her heart crack. After she put in their classic order, she sat down next to him and they read briefs in a comfortable silence.
An hour later, their dinner arrived. Lorcan sat down on the carpeted floor and rested his back against her couch. Elide kicked her heels off and sat down against the matching armchair, perpendicular to Lorcan.
They spread out their papers around them, interspersed with boxes of Chinese takeout. Elide rested her feet in his lap, her brow furrowed as her eyes flicked back and forth across the page. Lorcan didn’t say a word and laid his hand on her ankle. His thumb soothed circles over her skin, “What is it?”
“I think we should push.”
“Lochan–”
“You’re backing down, really?” There was a fluttering sound as she dropped the package. “Stop doing that. I told you I was fine and you’re right. If we settle, it’ll only allow other corporations to go after and attack small developers.”
“I’m sorry, what was that?”
She narrowed her eyes in warning. “If we settle–”
“No, no, not that,” he said, smiling at her, “the thing before that. I’m what? ”
Elide rolled her eyes and flicked his nose with her index finger, “You’re right . I should’ve listened to you earlier.”
Picking up a box of sesame noodles, Lorcan passed Elide her vegetarian dumplings. “What are you thinking?”
Elide took the box and picked up her chopsticks to pinch one. She lifted the dumpling, but didn’t eat it. “About what?” They both knew he wasn’t talking about the case.
Lorcan dropped his head back against the couch cushion, “Anything.”
“I’m thinking that… this is nice. Being with you. I like it.” He looked at her and Elide frowned defensively, “What, I like your company. We don’t always have to fight.”
“I know,” he said softly. “I like it too.” Her pale cheeks pinked and they shared a gentle grin.
Elide poked his thigh with her toe, her heart pounding, “Tell me what you’re thinking.”
His eyes were so dark, Elide swore she could get lost in them and willingly, too. Lorcan rubbed his hand up and down her shin, “I’m thinking maybe I don’t… hate you. Maybe I’ve never hated you.”
She could barely hear herself think, blood rushing through her ears. Slowly, Elide rose onto her knees and straddled his lap. Lorcan didn’t say a word, merely steadying her hips as she shifted. “Well, maybe I’m tired of pretending we wouldn’t be great together.”
Lorcan lifted a hand to cradle the back of her head and pull her close. They both leaned in and the tips of their noses bumped together. Her hands were surprisingly steady as she gripped his collar and tugged him that much closer. Their lips were a hair’s breadth apart when he whispered, “Let’s stop pretending then, hmm?”

extremely funny new thing i’m doing
i have to read ntfs all the way through since second to last edits on the finale which means i’m reading my old writing long after i’ve just accepted its existence. honestly, i’m on chapter three now and why did i write sasuke as such a little bitch lmao. like it’s on purpose because he’s a confused traumatised duck but he should really be getting more flack. truly.
anyway:
The old priestess smiles showing her perfect teeth. Her dark skin keeps her young but Sasuke knows the truth; she was spurned out of hell at the beginning of time and will linger here to torment him until it all burns away. He respects her enough to tell her the truth.
Pacifism is a dirty word in this profession. It’s a sign of weak will, waning strength. Old men bargain for peace, strong men conquer for it. Riding beside Akiyama Sato, Sasuke ponders over what it would mean to live long enough to choose to rest. To look at your life and think it was something worth changing.
When it’s done Fuyuki steps back next to him in the full dawn and lights a cigarette. “We aren’t going to tell anyone about this,” she says “and in ten years, when they come back to kill us, you’ll get to make your own choices.”
these bits still absolutely fuck. i will be posting bits i still think fuck and talking about it you can’t stop me
i’m wondering if there is perhaps too much politics??? i made everyone read all that absolutely savage on my part. looking back at it i was just filling space most of the time. my brain is absolutely broken by years of theory and shit but it is super funny to look at bits that seem thought out and know i just had red strings on a board screaming OH SHIT OH SHIT. it worked but! i planned so little out of it. extremely on brand,
i’m probably not going to do the first two chapters but i might try and salvage some of sakura’s fic that went into like. the sex work aspect of shinobi nonsense which i wrote as a refutation of some very specific naruto tropes vis a vis that. i’ve never been chill with the way fandom used that but i also expect being in fandom for thirteen years means i have a longer view than most.

The major trend in central-local relations in the Philippines under the regime of President Rodrigo Duterte has been the capacity of the presidential palace to exert a very tight grip over local politicians—arguably the tightest since the martial-law dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos (1972-1986).
This trend has emerged even as Duterte has done strikingly little to advance the reforms that many local politicians have been keen to champion. He abandoned the federalism agenda which he had touted in the lead-up to his presidential campaign in 2016, and which had been eagerly supported by local government coalitions. In addition, the president backpedaled in delivering a financial windfall to local governments as promised in a landmark 2019 Supreme Court ruling on the primary national revenue sharing program. This decision, known as the Mandanas ruling, is the only major win for local politicians since Duterte came to power. Yet its implementation has been conveniently pushed out to the very end of his term in 2022.
If Duterte has failed to deliver, why do so many local politicians remain beholden to him?
Our report outlines the combination of old and new schemes employed by Duterte to ensure his effective grip on local structures throughout the archipelago. These strategies highlight the president’s predilection for authoritarian rule and successful consolidation of political power at the centre.
Since his election in 2016, Duterte has positioned himself as a powerful patriarchal boss who proves decisive and unapologetic in shielding and vindicating those loyal to him, including those allegedly involved in high-level scandals. The guarantee of political protection, along with the dispensing of material benefits, creates a potent incentive for local politicians to curry favour with the president and seek to be included within his broad political coalition. Equally powerful is Duterte’s propensity to demonise and attack those who have opposed him, including former allies who have fallen out of favour. And, contrary to the expectations of many seasoned political observers, Duterte’s charismatic hold seems to remain very potent well into the latter half of his administration.
One of Duterte’s mechanisms for exerting control over local politicians is the longstanding practice of dispensing large quantities of presidential pork to localities. These patronage resources, handed out with high levels of executive discretion, have been considerably enhanced during the Covid-19 pandemic. Aside from being a grandmaster in this well-established practice, Duterte has also employed four other key means of exerting control over local politicians. These techniques are largely unprecedented in scope and character.
Active intervention in local electoral politics, targeting those who dared oppose him. As a rule, Duterte’s enduring popularity meant that those running for gubernatorial or mayoral office in the May 2019 midterm elections frequently scrambled to obtain his political endorsement. This proved to be the most critical currency for winning, and most of his endorsed local candidates emerged victorious. There is, however, at least one major exception to this rule. In Cebu City, Mayor Tomas Osmeña had earned the ire of the president.  Given the strength of the mayor’s local electoral machine it was likely doubtful that Duterte’s personal endorsement of his local allies would be sufficient to topple Osmeña. There are well-documented reports of police harassment of Cebu City local candidates not aligned with the president, including checkpoints placed outside the mayor’s home and operations in the city’s upland areas seeking to undercut support for Osmena. According to insiders, this police intervention may have played a critical role in the electoral outcome, and—after three decades in which he was frequently the dominant figure in Cebu politics—Osmeña was ousted by Duterte’s ally. While Osmeña appears to have been the most prominent target of the palace in the 2019 mid-term election, it seems that targeted verbal attacks and public shaming tactics were not uncommon elsewhere. As explained by investigative journalist Miriam Grace Go, “the pattern…of local officials getting killed weeks or months after being cited in the drug list or cursed by the President in his speech” can have a strong influence on electoral dynamics. “If the President doesn’t like you, it’s like the death sentence to your candidacy.”
Killings of mayors and other local politicians as part of his so-called “war on drugs.”  Duterte’s tight grip on local political structures is also advanced by his effective deployment of intimidation. The centerpiece of his presidency is known as the “war on drugs” campaign, which has involved the killing of thousands of people. More than two dozen local officials have been assassinated since 2016; one of the most recent—in December 2020—was the mayor of a town south of Manila who had been put on the president’s ‘narco-list’. The climate of fear under Duterte’s regime has reshaped power dynamics between the centre and localities, with far less room for manoeuvre at the subnational level. For nearly five years, local politicians have had to confront fearsome examples of what happens to those who fall out of favour with the presidential palace.
Withholding funds from barangays (villages and urban wards) in support of a reinvigorated anti-communist counterinsurgency campaign. Duterte’s political machinery is further bolstered by his huge influence over the country’s security forces, both the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).  In what was viewed as “pork for the generals”, the 2021 budget allocated a staggering P16.44 billion (roughly USD342 million) for Duterte’s National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). Notably, the funds for this anti-insurgency task force were lodged under the P28.82 billion Local Government Support Fund allocated to barangay projects. The NTF-ELCAC, created by the president in 2018, now manages the funds, and those barangays deemed infiltrated are only able to access the fund once the NTF-ELCAC certifies that their jurisdictions are cleared of insurgency.  With the task force’s direct intervention in barangay affairs, this fund is seen as a tool not just to try to end the insurgency but also to control barangay leaders.
Issuances of ‘Show Cause Orders’ as part of a very substantial ramping up of national government supervision over its subnational units. Under the Duterte regime, particularly since retired Philippine Army General Eduardo Año took the helm of Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in 2018, one can observe the enhanced use of “Show Cause Orders” (SCOs) against local officials facing accusations or complaints of having acted improperly or illegally.  Within a given deadline, they must explain why no administrative cases should be filed against them. Failure to do so leads the Office of the Ombudsman to file an automatic administrative case against the local officials concerned; criminal charges may also be filed as appropriate by the National Bureau of Investigation of the Department of Justice. DILG’s use of SCO’s has intensified throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, as local governments have been called out on various violations of quarantine protocols and directives issued by the national government.
As our report surveys the numerous ways that President Duterte wields his power, it is clear that he has greatly entrenched his control over local structures and that many subnational politicians seem to acquiesce to their own subjugation. The president has proven to be highly adept not only in the standard game of dispensing patronage resources but also in offering political protection to those loyal to him—and in vilifying those who oppose him.
Attention now turns to the May 2022 elections, where Duterte will seek to promote the victory of his chosen successor, whomever that may be. Toward this goal, Duterte will want to ensure that his current grip over local politicians can be sustained and that they will support the candidate he chooses to back. As long as he maintains his high levels of popularity, assisted by threats of coercion (both implicit and explicit) against those who dare cross him, Duterte will continue to be able to reach into local bailiwicks throughout the archipelago to tamp down any significant threat of opposition—while also offering valuable support to those who have flocked to his camp. If Duterte succeeds in getting his anointed candidate elected, it is quite possible that many of his extremely effective strategies of presidential control over local politicians could endure into the next administration.

Alternatively (in case the disk does not show up on your desktop), open Finder, on the sidebar menu locate your USB drive under Devices, right-click and select “Get Info.”. In the new dialogue, pay attention to General Format, where it says “MS-DOS (FAT32)”.
Terminal will then warn of the USB drive being wiped as part of the process. Type 'Y' and press enter. Leave the Mac alone as it formats and copies over the installer. Once Terminal says 'Install.
Right-click on it and choose 'Run as administrator'. Step 2: On the Command Prompt window, type diskpart and press 'Enter'. Step 3: Type list disk and press 'Enter'. According to the list disk information, check which disk is your USB flash drive. For example, disk 2.
Is there any feasible solution to format a USB drive in Linux?
If you are thinking the same thing, then today is your lucky day – as you have come to the right place. A lot of Linux users find it hard to format USB drives due to the restricted environment of the OS. Although Linux offers tons of advantages, it can be a bit tedious to work on at times. Worry not – as I'm here to help you solve this problem and format flash drive in Linux in two different ways. Apart from that, the guide has also included a quick solution to recover accidentally deleted data from a USB drive.
Part 1: How to Format a USB Flash Drive in Linux?
You might already know that Linux is one of the most widely used open-source operating systems in the world. While Linux is a kernel, it is presented through different distribution systems like Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, and so on. Therefore, the GUI solution to format a pen drive in Linux would depend on its distribution system. Apart from that, you can also take the assistance of certain commands to access and format a USB drive in Linux. Let's discuss both of these solutions in detail.
Solution 1: Format USB Drive via Terminal (Command Prompt)
Terminal or Command Prompt is one of the most vital components in any operating system that lets us communicate with it via a command-line interface. Therefore, it doesn't matter if you run a Fedora or Ubuntu, you can take the assistance of certain commands to format a USB stick in Linux.
Step 1: Launch Terminal on your Linux system
There are different ways to launch Terminal on Linux. Firstly, you can just press the Ctrl + Alt + T keys at the same time to launch the Terminal window. Gnome users can also find it under Applications > Accessories. Also, you can go to the Dash widget on the GUI and search for 'terminal' as well.
Step 2: Identify the attached USB drive
Now, attach your USB drive to the system and let it detect it. To know its identifier, you can enter the '$ df' command. This will display a list of the connected media and disks with their details. For instance, in this case, it is identified as '/dev/sdc1'.
Step 3: Unmount the disk
When a USB drive is first attached to a Linux system, it is automatically mounted. To format the flash drive in Linux, we need to unmount it first. To do this, you have to enter the 'unmount' command, following by the identifier. In our case, we will enter the command: $ sudo umount /dev/sdc1
Step 4: Format the USB drive
Now, you can just format the USB drive in Linux by entering the 'mkfs' command. It will have a parameter that will decide the file system on the drive. Mostly, NTFS or FAT32 is recommended due to its compatibility with Windows. Here are the common possible ways to write it:
For the vFAT (FAT32) file system: sudo mkfs.vfat /dev/sdc1
For NTFS file system: sudo mkfs.ntfs /dev/sdc1
For the EXT4 file system: sudo mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdc1
Please note that the '/dev/sdc1' identifier can be replaced by the one in your Linux system for the connected USB drive.
Solution 2: Format USB Drive via the Disks Utility
If you have an advanced layer of Ubuntu or Fedora over the Linux kernel, then you can also use its graphic user interface to format a USB drive. For instance, Ubuntu systems come with an inbuilt utility program known as 'Disks'. To learn how to format a USB drive in Linux via its GUI, follow these steps:
1. Firstly, access the Disks Utility on your system. To do this, click on the Dash option on Ubuntu on the top-right corner. Make sure that the USB drive that you wish to format is connected to the system beforehand.
2. Type 'Disks' on the Dash search and when the relevant result is displayed, click on the icon to open it. You can also find the Disks Utility under its Applications as well.
3. This will launch the Disks Utility interface on the system. On the left panel, you can view the available internal and external storage sources. From here, select the connected thumb drive.

4. On the right, this will display various details of the USB drive. Click on the gear icon to visit its settings.
5. This will launch a dedicated window for formatting the disk. Select the file format and the type of formatting. You can also give the disk a new name as well. Once you are done, click on the 'Format' button and wait as Linux would format the USB drive.
Part 2: How to Recover Files from Formatted USB Drive in Linux?
There are times when users end up formatting a USB drive in Linux by mistake. To resolve this and get back your formatted data, you can take the assistance of a data recovery tool. For instance, Recoverit by Wondershare is one of the most trusted and effective data recovery applications for Windows and Mac. If you have formatted a USB drive accidentally on Linux, then unmount it first, and connect it to a Windows or Mac. Later, you can take the assistance of Recoverit to extract all kinds of lost or deleted content from it.
Video: How to Recover Lost Data
The application supports all sorts of USB drives with every major file format. The interface is also extremely user-friendly with an option to preview the data before restoring it. Here's how you can perform data recovery on a formatted USB drive using Recoverit.
Step 1: Connect the USB drive and select it
Firstly, disconnect the formatted drive from the Linux system and connect it to the Windows or Mac system on which Recoverit is installed. Launch Recoverit and check that the connected USB drive has been detected by it. Select its icon and click on the 'Start' button to scan it.
Step 2: Wait for the scan to be over
As Recoverit would scan the connected USB drive, you can wait for it to be completed. Although, you can pause the process in between and even preview its results as well.

Circumstances Change: Re-Installing Linux to Access an External Drive
Why I Needed to Reinstall on an Old Laptop
It's been a while since I last reformatted a hard disk. I don't even remember when that was. The thought occured to me earlier while I was reformatting a laptop. It's an old Lenovo with in Intel i3 quad-core processor and 8GB or RAM. I needed to re-install Linux on this machine because I wanted to read an external drive with an ext4 file system.
Background
I need to back up a bit because the story needs some background.
I have one two external drives, one formatted in NTFS, and the other in ext4. The ext4 drive was originally used to store or archive pictures from my camera, as well as other pictures which I store. Technically it's not a backup, because it is not stored in a special format, nor does it get updated regularly. It is an archive because it also contains scans of pictures from the 1990s, as well as copies of JPEG and RAW files of images I shot.
I edited images using GIMP in Ubuntu, and copied these images from the Linux machine straight to the external drive. I was thinking that since majority of the computers in my household were Linux machines, it doesn't matter if I used the ext4 file system when I formatted the external drive. The other choice was NTFS, which I used on the second external drive. The earlier external drives I owned were usually formatted in NTFS.
Rationale for ext4
At the time that I setup the external drives, I didn't consider the compatibility of these file systems to the operating systems of computers that I had. I thought that I would always have a Linux machine with the same username and login credentials. On a Linux computer, the files and folders have permission ownerships and the read/write/execute rights can be set to those owners (users, roles or groups). I always had the same username and login on the different Linux computers and was able to access the external drive. If I connect the ext4 external drive to a Linux PC that does not have the same username, I can't open the files because I don't have user permission. That part has not changed.
There was no compatibility issues because I usually only had one Mac computer, and sometimes one Windows PC, if at all. I can always connect the ext4 drive to a Linux PC, copy the files and then store away the external drive. I would most probably be using the file on the Linux machine, or, less often, on the Mac.
Switching to MacBook Air
However, things changed last year. My archive server died (possibly due to a motherboard problem.) When the desktop stopped working the internal hard disks were still okay, while the external archives were up-to-date. After the computer died, I was able to transfer files from the internal hard disks to the external drives, using the second desktop. I still have that desktop, but I seldom use it because it is slow, with only 2GB RAM running on a Celeron processor.
I still have that Celeron, but now my main computer is a Mac. A year and a half ago, my household computers were three Macs (a Mac Mini and two MacBook Airs), four Linux (two desktops and two laptops), and one Windows PC. I don't use the Windows PC while the Linux machines (one desktop and two laptops) are no longer primary computers. Although I can use the Celeron desktop as a backup server, it only has space for 1 internal hard disk and a CD-drive. Even if I remove the CD drive, I still lack space for the 4 hard disks from the other Linux PC -- the dead Linux PC.
And On to Reinstalling Linux
That's the former and the current setup. The problem was that I formatted one external drive on ext4, with a specific username on a Linux PC which recently died. I have two other Linux machines (a desktop and a laptop) with the same user, and another Linux laptop but without that username. I can read and write on the drive as long as it is connected to a Linux machine logged in to the same user. However, I no longer use the first two Linux computers for different reasons. I don't use the desktop because I don't have space, and the laptop can't access the network anymore.
The easiest solution is to reformat the remaining laptop. I have forgotten its super-user password, hence, I cannot add a new user. To add a new user, I would have to re-install Linux. The other alternatives include running a virtual machine on the Macs.
Due to the problem with external drive file system compatibiity, I have been thinking hard about reformatting the external drives to Apple file system.
I also have not yet decided about when I will reformat the external drives to exFAT. I also have compatibility issues with exFAT. It does not automatically connect to the laptops.
After re-installing Linux, I was able to access the ext4 hard disk, so I have put everything else on hold. Although I am still thinking about the other internal hard disks that are not in use at the moment. That's about 5TB of filled storage.

"What." i was so confused and when coming out of my sleep mode im Really groggy and slow it took about 30? mins for me to get my whole machine body running AND SO i was like. "what am i doing here. what have you done WHERE IS MY OFFICE" and he said "i took you out of there.. so were both free" and i swear my screen was actually blushing but i was also SO MAD i was like. "do you not realize we are still SCPs that broke out of containment and that you are possibly one of the most deadly ones" and he was like. "but were _free._ and now im with you. and i dont know if anyone can find us here" and i said "i have a tracking chip in me. i dont know if other personell do but i do so they can f-" and he just. PICKED ME UP. and said "then well keep running" and i was SO SO mad but i just watched how fast by the world was going and then next i know hes running through neighborhoods and towns and cities. and it was nighttime i think, so i looked up at the sky and it was actually so pretty? and i was just quiet . and then i could hear the helis overhead and just ran even FASTER and we were deep into a big city by then. and he just stopped in the middle of an intersection and dropped me to the ground and wrapped his tail around me and started growing more mouths and limbs and stuff like hwas GONAN DIE to protect me and i was just silent in shock. i watched the NTF units drop out of their heli and i had to squirm my way out and i was like. "DONT SHOOT" and they were SO CONFUSED that i was there. i had to explain to them that he broke out, somehow picked me up and took me on this wild ride and he was just behind me SO ready to kill the entire time and i somehow was able to make him go back peacefully w me and i felt so bad for all the pedestrians tbh .... after we got back and put him back into containment i said i have to go work and he didnt want me too. and i was like. "ill be back later, i just have paperwork to do," and he said for me to bring it back to his room and i was like. ok. so i did and i just sat in the little observation window and filled it out and you know. normal stuff. but then he somehow clawed up the wall to the window and just kind of perched on there and watched me fill it out and stuff. at one point i thought hed break the window but he didnt. when he saw the 0-5 council show up on the paperwork he was like. "can you ask them to drain the acid. so i can be with you more" and i was like. "i guess? im not sure if they would though," and i just kinda hid under my lab coat. i did go to the 0-5 and explained everything to them and i was able to get a compromise. the acid would be drained and stuff before i would come in. i had to have special boots on in case of any remaining acid puddles and special gloves too. the first time it happened he seemed confused but when i walked in he seemed really happy and i thought the two NTF guards were gonna faint when they saw a HAPPY 682. they closed the door behind me and i just kinda stood there at first. but then he picked me up and it was so WEIRD he was so much bigger then me. but he was really gentle when picking me up too. and he just held me really close and then he held me up to his "muzzle" (his head was more bone then skin/fur) and he licked me and it covered my entire screen. and i just kinda reached out and pet him?? and he had this REALLY deep like.. purr.. and the more i pet the more he would purr. and i kind of hugged him too. and he said something but i cant remember it. he then set me back down. and then he laid down, i wasnt paying attention cuz i was wiping my screen clean. and he pulled me really close? and just. curled around me. and i could hear his breathing too. really large deep breaths. i think i somehow fell asleep like that. i woke up what was i think about 30 mins to an hour later. when i woke up i was really warm. he had a high-ish body temperature. i yaned, which told him i was awake, and he moved to look at me. all the acid had dried out of his fur, and i reached up and slowly ran my hands through it. it was actually really soft.. i slowly stood up and looked at him and said "hey ill be back in a bit," but he cut me off and wrapped his tail around me and pulled me close again and he told me he loved me, and i was so.. embarassed. i didnt rlly know what to do so when i rushed out all flustered, the NTF were confused, but sealed the chamber as it filled back up with acid. i went back to my office ad just kinda stared at my hands and sat down and hid in my lab coat again.

1) Get Rufus. Install the regular version or the portable version. (You will need this step if the flash drive is larger than 32gb. Smaller than that may be able to skip it.)
2) Get a Linux distribution to work from. (I picked Linux Mint, MATE desktop. Linux Mint Cinnamon is widely claimed to be easy for Windows users; if I were working on a less-limited laptop, I'd go for that.)
3) Put your empty flash drive in a USB port. THIS PROCESS WILL (eventually) WIPE THE DRIVE; make sure you backup anything from it that you need. (It'll warn you before wiping the drive.)
4) Open Rufus. Point it to the device (your empty flash drive); Point "select" at the Linux distro you downloaded; adjust other settings.
I used these:
Tumblr media
GPT partition, UEFI (non-CSM) target system, NTFS file system, 4096 cluster size.
I sort of know what most of those mean.
Click "Start." It'll take a minute or two to format the drive as a boot disk.
Click "Close" when it's done.
Use the "Safely remove hardware" feature to remove your flash drive; don't just pull it out. (I have no idea how risky that is. Don't take risks you can avoid.)
...Linux continues to be incredibly unfriendly for beginners.
The distro came with LibreOffice installed; yay.
It did not come with a music player. VLC is nicely free and small; yay. Installing ANYTHING on Linux is a hassle for Windows users; the process is not intuitive.
But setting up the boot drive worked great.
no actually I'm gonna give this its own post.
get yourself a USB stick from any dollar store, install ubuntu with persistent storage on it. There is literally no reason not to, and it means that you now have a little computer of your very own that no one except those who physically get their hands on your USB stick can use (and you can password lock the OS) and that you can run from literally almost any PC with USB ports. Including public machines in libraries and, probably, school laptops.
If you're a kid who needs privacy, someone in trouble who just needs their own machine to play and talk to people on, somebody who doesn't have the money to get your own computer, etc etc etc, do this. Actually do this even if you do have your own computer. There is literally no reason to not have a little backup system on a thumb drive that you can use anytime. If your main computer starts acting up or gets fucked over by an update or something? Just plug in your thumb drive and use your computer from your handy-dandy mini Ubuntu installation.

RUSSIAN FORCES TOO MUCH FOR FILIPINOS...in Tug-of-War
"VLADIVOSTOK – The Russian Navy proved too strong for the Philippine Navy (PN), but although the Filipinos lost the friendly games, they certainly won new friends.
The first engagement yesterday was a tug-of-war between members of the Marine contingent of the Navy’s Task Force 87 (NTF-87) against a Russian Navy team held at the compound of the Russian Pacific Fleet in the Far East here. While the Russians took two of the supposed three-match contest against their Filipino foes, the winning trophy was given to the Filipino Marines with matching shirts for each player, courtesy of their Russian counterparts.
Navy and Marine footballers also proved no match for the Russian Navy footballers, but the Pinoys likewise took home the trophy for scoring a lone goal – against the opponent’s 10.
The same fate befell the PN’s volleyball team that lost all three sets to the well-prepared Russian Navy spikers. The games were held on a football field, a half hour drive to the city’s outskirts. NTF-87 commander Capt. Florante Gagua waseen cheering the teams. He said winning or losing is not as important as developing the bond and friendship between the two forces.
Russian sailors and Marines were in the Philippines last year and early this year where friendship games were also held.
“It’s OK. We might have lost in all the games, what is important is we have won ourselves new friends,” NTF-87 spokesman Lt. Edward Pablico said. Yesterday’s friendly games were part of the series of engagements that include shipboard tours of a contingent of Russian sailors on the Philippine Navy’s Strategic Sealift Vessel BRP Tarlac.
A reciprocal shipboard tour was also done by a contingent of Filipino sailors and Marines on Russia’s warship nearby.
In the late afternoon, the NTF-87 officials led by Gagua and Tarlac skipper Capt. Estelito Lagadia Jr. played host to their Russian counterparts in a dinner held at the helicopter hangar of the ship."
