Get to Know The Alters: Xanthe Zeitstück
Tumblr media
Origin:
Inworld Germany, then inworld Victorian England---First a fictional character who died in their own story and became a ghost, then an alchemical Frankenstein'd creation. Began fronting in late outerworld 2012. Was created as a clinical Narcissist to counter our abuser's NPD and borrowed traits of Howl Pendragon, Captain Jack Sparrow, and Magnus Bane for a personality. Believed for a long time that it was actually a Victorian ghost that was possessing the body of someone who had already passed.
General interests:
Literature, queer history, Oscar Wilde, culture, psychology, sociology, travel, fashion/aesthetic, fiction.
Music taste:

Was married to Seran and Visarden of the same collective, but Seran broke up with them and Visarden has vanished, presumed deceased. Now considered widowed; has had little interest in romance since, though occasional 'situationships' arise.
Aesthetic:
Jewel tones. Blue, gold, and blacks. Silks and ruffles, chiefly Victorian-inspired, ranging anywhere from dandyism, to fop, to a gothic vampire sort. Top hats, canes, and frocks.

Fake MaDD Post #1
The following is evidence that “Aubrey” doesn’t daydream, immersively or maladaptively, but:
uses people:
to daydream or create for her
to roleplay and/or bounce ideas off with
as sources to steal concepts from, sometimes this is under the guise of “inspiration”, other times it’s to “reclaim” from “problematic” creators, including fan content creators
media sources to copy
Disclaimer: while immersive and maladaptive daydreamers can have fictparacosms/fictparas ie daydream worlds and daydream characters based off and/or rooted in preexisting fictional media, it’s a common complaint that these are often so far removed from the actual source that they’re essentially original content that share the names and/or other likeliness of fictional characters/media. MaDDers often complain of not being able to get through a movie/show/game/book at all without daydreaming making it impossible. This is the complete opposite of what “Aubrey” does. She engages with the media in full, then places her characters into the plot, with little to no deviation from the original source plot.
There’s no denying that “Aubrey” uses escapism as a maladaptive avoidance coping mechanism. She consumes a large amount of content near constantly. But she’s not a daydreamer.
Tumblr media
While we’re not going to make this tab longer by including the entirety of the evidence of Amber faking MaDD, we will include bits from the Discord chat here as supplemental evidence. Her “MaDD” seems to come from 2 sources: roleplaying with someone/talking with someone/using another daydreamer, or just lifting ideas from others’ works, including movies, shows, games, fan fics, etc. The latter is not in alignment with the way fictparas work with immersive and maladaptive daydreaming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a collaborative effort between two or more parties, NOT a solitary activity that immersive and daydreamers experience.
Here she is blatantly using us to create content for her Social Media AU, as a further example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like with using roleplay/conversation/daydreamers and media, she’s outsourcing inspiration. She’s faking MaDD in the hopes of getting supply for her HPD and NPD. Most MaDDers don’t actually feel comfortable talking about their daydreams, not just because of the heightened sense of purity culture online, but because daydreams are incredibly personal and private. This is a solitary activity often done to cope with trauma and/or loneliness. Opening up about these personal and private worlds that most have had since the tender age of ten just feels incredibly invasive and vulnerable, even if there is a desire to connect with other daydreamers and discuss and create content for something you spend so much of your free time (for immersive daydreamers)/life (for maladaptive daydreamers) doing.
She’s approaching talking about her characters as though she’s some famous writer, and everyone is just dying to get more content from her. She’s doing all this for an invisible audience and trying to create content catered to her nonexistent fans. This is NOT how immersive or maladaptive daydreamers talk about their paras or paracosms. No one is asking their followers who they should talk about, but instead, tend to use the blog as a sort of daydream diary to document what’s going on in their daydreams. Some daydream bloggers do garner an audience (never a large audience, compared to fandom bloggers who can have microfandoms or subfandoms surrounding them), and people can and do send questions, edits and art to each other about their paras and paracosms, but it’s not approached or engaged with in the way that “Aubrey” is doing here. There’s no “daydream influencers”. Everyone has their own paras and paracosms, and daydreams about them in their own time. Some people are more open about how they talk about these paras and paracosms, some are vague, some do a “live blogging” style of blogging about their paras and paracosms. But due to the nature of immersive and maladaptive daydreaming, people really aren’t flocking to and engaging with other daydreamers’ blogs and content in the way you see with fandoms, because everyone in the community is also daydreaming, regardless if the post about it or not. Posts about the actual experience of immersive and maladaptive daydreaming get more notes than posts where someone is sharing info or content about their paras or paracosms.
Tumblr media
This is a collaborative effort between two or more parties, NOT a solitary activity that immersive and daydreamers experience.
Tumblr media
As mentioned with ‘fictparas’, while immersive and maladaptive daydreamers can have ‘fictparacosms’ ie paracosms, or daydream worlds, that take place in preexisting fictional media, the common experience with immersive and maladaptive daydreamers is that these preexisting fictparas and fictparacosms become so canon divergent and removed from the original source that they may as well be original fiction, with the characters sharing a name and/or likeliness with the original source media. Having a paracosm that’s exactly the same as the original source, including the plot, with just the characters changing, isn’t a paracosm, and it isn’t immersive or maladaptive daydreaming. She’s just lifting the entire plot of a movie and calling it a “paracosm”. By definition, a “paracosm” is a daydream world with lore and narrative attached to it. Immersive and maladaptive daydreaming is the act of creating this lore and narrative through dissociative absorption. She’s not creating this lore, and in her own words she says, “[s]o basically my characters in the same plot”. Not only is this not daydreaming, it’s borderline, if not outright, plagiarism.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While daydreamers, like anyone else, can find inspiration anywhere, the fact that Amber only creates paras after purchasing or being gifted an “adopt” lends to the idea that she’s faking, especially given the fact that she needs other people to help her create their personalities and backstories, she uses entire movie plots, and takes other people’s characters/paras. There isn’t a single quality of maladaptive daydreaming this woman has done yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a collaborative effort between two or more parties, NOT a solitary activity that immersive and daydreamers experience.

Artist/Writer NPD Culture is being unable to finish projects without enough praise, but also being unable to share anything about it because otherwise you will lose motivation.
Artist/Writer NPD Culture is also finishing something you end up really proud of but end up hating because it didn't get enough attention from other people. What the fuck did I put all that effort in for if no one is going to care. - ⚠️⚡

not to write meta on an anime character but
i usedt to thunk bakugous chaotic good but i dont think that covers it quite right so i’m leaning towards lawful neutral or chaotic neutral but....more lawful neutral, since he is a stickler for rules and regulations etc, but not really cause he cares about doing the right thing in most cases that aren’t small and beneficial to his image, which is probably indicative of the neutral side of things

Hello! I don’t have NPD but wanted to write a character having it without demonizing them. I keep trying to find sources but all of them are just the stereotypical “NARCISSISTS R EVIL!!!!!” stuff, so I was wondering if you had any sources for how to write a character with the disorder or even just any tips in general so I don’t accidentally demonize or encourage stereotypes
hm, this is a good question! despite being a writer myself, i’m horrible at writing advice, but i guess i would just say- let them be like all your other characters. let them fuck up but get the chance to make up for it, let them argue and be angry but also let them be happy and compassionate. npd is just a disorder, it’s not a life sentence of misery, so just let your character(s) with npd be flexible- every person is capable of making mistakes, growing, and learning, whether or not they have npd. instead of thinking about it like “this character’s defining trait is npd”, think about it like “this character happens to have npd and it can factor into their story but at the end of the day they’re just a person with the capacity to both mess up and grow”
i would also say, if you don’t have npd, it simply won’t be possible to represent the actual experience and nuance of having it, so don’t try to explore it too much or try to tell what it’s like to actually have it, you can just casually insert some info about it here and there!
im gonna tag @npd-is-ok @npdsafe and @cluster-b-culture-is in case y’all have any advice :)) /nf

Updated Intro
My Cluster B-exclusive 18+ Discord server can be found here!
Yeah, so my first intro was Bad and I've gotten so much more involved on this site than I thought I would - so it's time to wipe time and do it all again!
Hello, I'm Jane Doe (not my real name - you'd be amazed how many people think so, but really, it's not). I'm a writer and a mouthy sufferer of several personality disorders, and both of these things have kind of become the focus of this blog (bc I can't help but vent in the middle of the night when I should be sleeping).
General Taglist: @aohendo, @athenswrites, @impaledlotus, @bardic-tales, @carefulpyro, @marinesocks, @writingpotato07, @hey-its-quill
MASTERLIST AND WIP INFO AT THE BOTTOM OF POST
This blog contains NSFW (18+) content - I don't really impose any limits on my writing, and it is and has always been an outlet for my trauma! You have been warned.
THIS BLOG IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE A SAFE PLACE FOR ALL LGBT+ & QUEER PEOPLE, ALL CLUSTER B DISORDERS (INCLUDING NPD & ASPD), ALL DISABLED PEOPLE (PHYSICALLY OR MENTALLY), ANYONE OF ANY RACE, ETC. IF YOU'RE A BIGOT IN ANY REGARD, FUCK RIGHT OFF.
Now that we're through with that...
A Little About Me
I am twenty-one years old & Irish-American, I use she/her & it/its pronouns, I am hella LGBT, and I am a loud & proud anarcho-communist
We are a system that suffer from a combination of severe symptoms from all Cluster B personality disorders, but most severely borderline personality disorder (BPD), antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) and narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). Outside of those I also suffer from dependent personality disorder (DPD), bulimia nervosa + ARFID, chronic insomnia, major depressive disorder, agoraphobia, CPTSD, and am autistic, & with this blog I have decided to make it everyone else's problem :P
I am open to DMs, asks, & tag games at all times! But I may take a bit to get back to you
If you'd like to beta read or just read any of my WIPs, let me know! I usually share PDFs when at least a couple drafts are finished
I have been studying English for about as long as I've lived and writing for about eight years, and I'd like to think I've become pretty damn good at these things. I love beta reading and helping to edit other people's works, so if you have a WIP and you'd like some help, feel free to contact me (ESPECIALLY if it fits snugly into my interests).
Outside of writing, I have a deep love for horror movies & games, video games (especially first-person shooters & roguelikes), HEMA, reading (of course), punk & metal music, snakes & dogs, psychology & philosophy, and staying awake long enough to make inadvised chaotic decisions without a worry. Recommend me music of any kind, please!
I have also devoted almost a decade of my life to studying mythology, theology, history & culture all around the world - I find these things endlessly fascinating, brilliant, and inspiring, and I am always eager to find out more about foreign cultures! If you need any help regarding mythology/theology (basically anything there) or specific parts of history (ask!) feel free to message or ask me!
Stuff Regarding My Writing
I am an all-around speculative/weird fiction writer, though I am willing to try literally anything if the idea intrigues me enough. That being said, almost all of my work returns to horror eventually, as it is my beloved and my most faithful muse. Besides horror, some of my other favorite genres to write include dark fantasy, urban fantasy, historical fiction, noir, & cyberpunk.
My writing style itself is a mix of a more casual style with more complex words & obscure references mixed in. My work tends to be quite bleak & dark in content, as it started as a coping mechanism for my trauma, but I don't believe in grimdark stories and I work to make sure there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, however dim. There is also, very frequently, stylized and detailed gore & elaborate, over-the-top action in my work.
My writing takes a very psychological, character-driven bent at all times - I feel no shame in having simpler plots so that I can focus on the mindsets of traumatized and fucked-up people. Mental health is a primary focus in all of my writing, and I tend to feature antiheroes or legitimate villains as protagonists.
Black-and-white morals are a thing of fiction in my work - with the rarest of exceptions, I strive to discard "good and evil" as constructs entirely and write human beings instead.
I usually write female protagonists and/or protagonists of marginalized & underrepresented groups. Everything I write will have some LGBT people somewhere, it's a guarantee.
Thanks to my areas of study, I also write a lot about mythology & theology - good luck finding a single project of mine that doesn't sneak in a reference to some god somewhere, if not straight up including them. I also really enjoy ancient literature and will frequently incorporate references or quotes from older epics. Drinking game: Take one shot every time I reference Dante's Inferno in something (don't actually do this for your own safety)
While my settings & stories tend to be very fantastical, I always seek to ground them in reality as much as I can and give them a grittier feel - combat in my stuff is a lot less cartoony and a lot more focused on broken bones and bloody bodies. I also write HEAVILY about real-world politics with an explicitly leftist anarchist view, so if that's not something you're prepared to deal with, I'd advise you turn around now.
My Current WIPs...
Karma Killer (full post here) - Slasher, Psychological Horror. In the fictional mountain town of Lake Leer, Colorado, a bullied teen named Kora Lynch is driven to suicide, only to be saved by a wrathful goddess and given a kabuki mask and the ability to know anyone's sins with a mere glance. Indebted to her new lord, Kora takes up the name of "Karma" and begins tormenting the people who drove her to die - only to start losing herself and her ideals with every bloody body she leaves behind her.
The Serpents They Stone (full post here) - Mythological Urban Fantasy, Cyberpunk. In an alternate version of our world where gods lived alongside humankind and brought them to a new level of technological prosperity, the dreaded World Serpent Jörmungandr reveals herself to have survived Ragnarok while rescuing her villainous old flame, the Phantom Queen Badb. Quickly finding herself pursued by the entire world for the prophecy that promises she will end the world, Jörmungandr dedicates herself to saving Badb from the "Black Pharaoh" that enslaves her - even as Badb is forcibly driven to remain sinister and create chaos.
Miasma (full post here) - Historical Dark Fantasy. Based on the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland & the later Black Death, the island of Ériu is besieged by the foreign Anglii and their High King is killed. His daughter, Hail, dies with him, but she is resurrected by the serpent goddess Corchen with one objective - to kill King Godric across the ocean, no matter the cost. Her mission soon intertwines with that of a mysterious plague doctor's, who seeks to stop an oncoming plague - one that could spell the end of all life.

Have you ever watched Infinity Train? Season three has a character while not stated in the show is confirmed by the creators to be a narcissist. Unlike Loki it's clear the writers actually did the research and have understanding of what NPD is rather than just the pop culture idea of what narcissism is. Without spoiling the characters major flaw is his lack of empathy for others and a complete refusal of expecting that he's wrong.
Can't say I've seen it, no.
I'm glad they did their research, that's unheard of these days. The thing is when they use the 'narcissist' term they could be referring to the personality trait or the disorder (I talk about the differences here) but most of the time when we hear that word in movies and shows they mix them both and usually just take one or two traits to diagnose a character who should be complex enough to need a bunch of them before they're diagnosed so it's all a little confusing.
A lack of empathy is a huge one, that's for sure, but is it really lack of empathy or is it something else? Where does it come from, how does the character interact with other people, they don't empathize or they don't sympathize (because it's not the same thing)?, etc.
If they do it right in that series that's awesome but in a show like Loki's, with only 6 episodes where the spotlight is not even on him but on someone else, to bring up that word then expect the audience to unquestionably believe it, is a huge red flag and proof they never researched a damn thing.

purity culture blows.
no, seriously. it's like no one can have fun anymore when it comes to fandoms.
i mean if i'm gonna ship loki and his female self, then i will. will i ship quicksilver and scarlet witch? sure, thing. however, when people yell at actors and writers and networks about certain ships, it shows once again, why we can't have nice things.
i mean when it comes to the mcu there's some weird fuckin' shit when it comes to romance, scarlet witch is in love with a robot.
A LEGIT ROBOT.
and no one bats an eye.
Yet, when Loki, who has NPD, falls in love with the female version of himself it's incest and it's bad.
get a hold of yourself.
also, i have no idea if i can speak on this since i'm cis-woman who's het. but, loki being with a woman doesn't erase loki from lgbt.
it doesn't.

I hope it's ok to ask but I'm writing a narcissistic character and need some advice. Emily is going to be the main heroine of a comic I'm writing (last name is now Rosa rather than Morrigan) and the thing is, this story doesn't have much to do with a dying culture as much as it takes place in a weird west kind of world during a mystical form of the Dust Bowl. She still has an older brother (Andre, I know) and he's less motivated as an extremist and more motivated as someone who enjoys things going his way under the guise of anarchy (he's the leader of an outlaw gang), do you have tips for writing a character like that?
ok so uh. broadly. the answer is write them the same as you would write any character.
there is - to tangent a little - a pretty common perception that ‘narcissistic’ or ‘sociopathic’ people, in both the colloquial sense and the more specific usage of these words as adjectives to describe people who have NPD or ASPD respectively, are in some way fundamentally different from other people. and of course if we’re using these terms in the more specific way, as a shorthand for ‘person with narcissistic personality disorder’ or ‘person with antisocial personality disorder’ then like yes of course they do have these quantifiable psychological differences from the neurotypical norm but not any more so than any other significant lifelong form of neurodivergency. which is to say that people with personality disorders are human beings with the same capacity for self-determination and personal growth and rich interiority and moral complexity as anyone else.
likewise, with the colloquial meanings of these words - they describe personality traits, or sometimes behaviors, and that’s all. there is, for example, no contradiction in a person being narcissistic and also altruistic, generous, and pleasant to be around. thinking very highly of oneself and having an egocentric view of the world is not intrinsically linked to being a cruel and selfish person.
they especially are not synonymous with ‘abusive.’ abuse stems from a fixation on wielding power and control over other people, and there is no direct correlation with narcissism or sociopathy in either the colloquial or the clinical sense.
so, with that out of the way,
as a personality trait, in my opinion the key feature of narcissism is not just ego but ego combined with an intense underlying fragility. when you have a big ego and an overblown sense of your own importance, there are—inevitably—going to be times when that runs up against the plain reality that You Are Not The Best, and that really hurts. it’s painful! it sucks! and if you’re someone who practices good mental hygiene you can be mindful about this and develop good, healthy strategies to mitigate this pain (by working to keep your ego in check) and ride it out when it does hit without trying to offload it onto somebody else by projecting blame. but if you’re not, often what happens is either really catastrophic self-loathing spirals, or the aggressive behavior of trying to push that shame onto someone else, or maybe both. and then if a narcissistic person with poor mental hygiene also has no respect for the sanctity of other people’s boundaries or regard for their feelings then this can start to creep into abusive territory because they’ll self-soothe by ripping into people who can’t or won’t stand up for themselves.
and of course from a writer’s perspective, this is a playground, because any time you have a trait that is kind of defined by contradiction like this you can get so much mileage out of that push and pull.
on the other hand,
if you’re looking to write someone who is controlling and/or abusive - i think the biggest obstacle there is, if you’re a remotely normal person who can’t fathom treating another person in such an abominable way, just... not understanding what drives a person to act that way, and that can make it hard to portray the behaviors, because you don’t quite know what the reasons for it are? it’s sort of like trying to bake a cake without ever having seen a cake recipe.
imo the best way to close this knowledge gap for yourself is to read why does he do that by lundy bancroft [link goes to archive.org]. and i actually think that this is a book that everyone should read, because it’s basically a primer on how to recognize abusive patterns of behavior and why those patterns exist and that is useful and potentially life-saving knowledge for... everyone. so read why does he do that. 👍
