(also, because I will make literally anything about my diaboys...I know these events are typically sorta, let's say chronologically unmoored with regards to story. but the further implications that this takes place pre-episode 7/Malleus' Big Existential Crisis, and yet...some of these lines?)

Idk man something about soap having always been a little bit weird with u. he's been friends with ur brother for years, back to when you were teenagers. He's only a year older but you felt the gulf of that gap, exaggerated when he shot up, puberty like a tool he used just to tower over u and make u uncomfortable

Growing up with him as a perpetual shadow, always a little bit too close, always a little bit too intense. u snap at one point and tell him that he disgusts u, that ur not into him at all. he goes red in the face, growling that you've been leading him on, that ur playing games with his head (he is assuming u wearing a blue bra after he yanked ur turtleneck up was to match his eyes, even tho he shouldn't have seen it in the first place)

u end up with ur panties around ur knees as he forces u to stroke his cock, panting into ur throat as u 'make apologies' to him. he forgives u btw, he knows that u have to act this way, that ur brother would kill him if he knew. makes it seem like ur partners in crime, in this together even with his hand manacled around ur wrist to stroke him off

Locked in for a few days straight and emerged with 21~ pages of MYTH transcribed. Every song, every story, every monologue -- the only thing it's missing is the appendix, which I will probably... append.

Some notes:

In order to fill space and fit the kind of formatting I was going for, most stories (that we don't have the full versions of, so afaik all excluding five and six) have paragraphs of improvised flavour text -- so they are nowhere near fully canon!

There are a few other spots where I just used random words/phrases/quotes as flavour text. My BLUE AND BLACK FROM EDGE TO EDGE page uses an excerpt from deltarune that I quite liked.

Everything on these pages is handmade! The writing and illustrations were just done with pencil/pens I had on hand, and i used a typewriter for all of the print-y sections (e.g. all of the stories are typed out, plus the lighthouse audiobook).

This was a learning experience, and BOY is it ever scuffed -- but I'm happy with that! It was an insanely fun project to work on, and one I can wholly recommend to anyone with the time/resources for it.

Solas + bindings

The thing that feels genuinely very dark about the Veilguard endings is that ultimately they all amount to Rook using Solas as a power source for the Veil, like he's just an object instead of a person. One reason this is so dark is because Solas is a former spirit, and what Rook does to him is exactly the same thing mages throughout Thedas are constantly doing to spirits - binding them to use for magic.

In Inquisition, Solas frequently expresses distress about how the personhood of spirits is commonly denied throughout Thedas: he literally tells us that binding spirits is 'abuse.' We know that this is a major part of his motivation for wanting to take down the Veil. But in the end not only is no one willing to even listen to his concerns about the spirits, they turn around and do the exact same thing to him, binding him just like a spirit.

Even the atonement ending is not really much better in this regard. In Inquisition, Cole says of bindings that 'It isn't abuse if I ask' and Solas himself says 'Not always true.' Binding him in this way is still a dark thing to do even if Rook uses his guilt and shame to convince him to do it voluntarily. We are left with the final message that the abuse of spirits will continue indefinitely and now it's all founded on the very same dehumanizing treatment directed toward Solas himself.

Party Favours by @howlsmovinglibrary

Who won’t take it too seriously, but also won’t fuck it up by being embarrassed the entire time? You don’t ask me. You ask Astarion.” A year after their adventuring party officially disbanded to enjoy their fame and immense wealth to the full, tiefling wizard Rosalie (reluctantly) asks Astarion for some help with a large, fake-date, ex-girlfriend sized problem.

Now this... this is a bind that got away from me somewhat. The typeset is one of @besidekick's lovely typesets made for the 2024 Renegade Exchange. I had read Party Favours a while ago and loved it (such a fun Astarion/Tav dynamic, funny as hell, deeply tender, and I'm weak for a fake dating trope), so I immediately squirreled the typeset away for future use. Turned out that the future was about two weeks later when I attended the Renegade Binderary workshop on cover cutouts and thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool to design a cover for Party Favors that incorporates the astrological elements of Rose's divination spell and a window cutout." Which was a good thought, actually, because this bind turned out incredibly well.

About the Bind

This particular bind is a legal quarto, printed on cream 20/50 lb long grain paper. It was also my second try at chisel trimming a text block, an attempt that mostly went off without a hitch.

Endpapers are a lovely chiyogami. Front and back covers each feature a window cutout to reveal some delightful foiled scrapbook paper that I scavenged from one of those weird collage pages that appear in every scrapbook pad for some reason.

The cover was my first attempt at foiling a full cover design. That was... a battle. But we eventually got foil onto the bookcloth. Now, did it take me three tries? Perhaps. But we... we don't need to talk about that part.

This was also my first in-boards three-piece bradel construction. (Lot of firsts on this bind.) Somewhat more involved than previous casebound binds, but it was so satisfying to assemble.
