would you like to talk about how bad the mha ending was hella

as much as i would love to give like. a comprehensive response i genuinely dont think i can get my words together just yet without it being a constant unintelligble stream of 'AND ANOTHER THING-' and bc it's become quite torn in the fandom on if the chapter was good or bad i want like. an actual coherent response here. so i will reblog this if/when i can word it but know IM NOT FUCKING HAPPY

#paragraphs and paragraphs about the villains' endings alone. hawks hpsc president. midoriya's ending #the fact hero society is barely changed and the changes that do happen feel very much TELLING the reader it happened #as opposed to actually showing us how society changed on it. this is smthn ik people will argue w me about #bc yes it was a 400+ chapter manga arguably showing us how society changed but like. did it actually show that #like do u honestly think any community would watch televised battles between TEENAGERS and bad guys #and have the majority of them go 'gah! i cant help but sympathise with the bad guy who just suckerpunched child extra no.28!'#so like. why are they all suddenly on board with massive systemic reinvention. where's the rage where's the bitterness #this wasn't a story on showing the villains as redeemable and working towards society sympathising with them #and slowly painfully coming to a conclusion where japan was ready to change as a COLLECTIVE #this was a story of showing a group of redeemable villains (first step CHECK) getting DEFEATED IN BATTLE #THEY ALL FUCKING DIED EXCEPT SPINNER AND PRESUMABLY COMPRESS #WE DONT EVEN FUCKING KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO DABI AT THE END ONLY THAT HE WAS PUT IN THE EXACT SAME POSITION #HE WAS IN WHEN HE WOKE UP FROM HIS COMA AND DABI WAS BORN. 'DABI' AS A PERSONA MEANT NOTHING #we still have an abuser who didn't come to justice. we still have the corrupt government body now being led by the guy they trafficked #and abused and conditioned into the perfect soldier. do u think maybe his opinions are a little biased in regards to that gov. body #maybe. perhaps. slightly. and we still have hero charts!!!!!! every kid in the last chap is still obsessed w becoming a hero!!!!#and dont get me STARTEDDDDDDDDD on midoriya being a teacher. 'i think it's cute he finally gets a life of peace 🥺#this way he can help the next generation directly 🥺' womp to the fucking womp he was supposed to be the world's no.1 hero #he barely sees his friends anymore. 'it's realistic to adulthood!' i dont want realism in my superpowered teen and up manga #put them in the avengers mansion NOW #so as you can see i waffled regardless of saying i specifically wasn't gonna do that and some of these points bother me more than others #with some being personal I Didn't Like It and some being i genuinely truly believe it to be bad writing #but my summary is mha ultimately felt like a story where a group of individuals unlearned (eh) the beliefs of a toxic society #and tried to save the people that society failed and then they themselves DID NOT FUCKING SAVE THEM #(i have a hit on the redemption via death trope on the dark web for ten bajillion pounds)#and while yeah that isn't objectively an evil story to tell i think 1) it was done poorly #and 2) isn't what a lot of people believed the premise to be nor what i think horikoshi himself was trying to write #ask #mha spoilers #mha

#his money trauma runs so deep he cant see how his behaviour hurts inho much more than any money issues could #or maybe he does and its just that bad that he cant physically stop himself #when he told inho to go back i was like my man he cant keep coming back until you have enough money to feel secure #if you dont deal with this now that insecurity is gonna run for the rest of your life and even if you do have money youll always worry abou #losing them and not be able to enjoy the comfort that comes with them #and youre always going to base your feeling of self worth on them #and your happiness and everything valuable in your life would be so easy to destroy #itd crumble #i want him to see the truth so bad it hurts me watching him go through it #im happy he was at least honest with inho #thats a step #hes gonna have to take a lot of small ones too #all of these hurt boys ugh #its such a pretty show and the comedy is fun and the acting is top notch that it makes me ignore how much sadness there actually is in ever #episode #and i recommend it as a light watch because they mix the sweet and the sour so well #but i feel for all of these characters #including hyejin lol #boys be brave

I wrote about this on discord a bit back but I think a big part of the whole doctor-master complication is that it's the type of argument and the master is the kind of person where they'd rather die than do something that might make it seem like conceding they're wrong, regardless what they actually think, and that's why "where I stand is where I fall. Stand with me" that almost works on Missy: She has made her move here, she killed him- made so he's dead when the other shoe drops- and he knows and acknowledges that and can offer her a way of coming near him and being on the same side without it being her side losing, saving face that she can join him in this. And the speech very much highlights how to the doctor it's never been about winning, always about harm to people and help to people, but I don't think the master is as affected by that as by the 'if you want to hold my hand now I can make it so it doesn't make you seem the fool for your past actions'.

#and thats how i think you get missy2 is that hes at a point where hes so exhausted with the role he stuck himself in w the master #he wants out but he would NEVER take the embarassment of changing his mind or his ways in public-#proving anyone else right all along? unthinkable- he instead concots some great last evil design #not sure whether its to gurantee some retirement from a position of dignity or to change his own timeline-#leaning second- but regardless its Very very much 'or die trying' (and have that peace)#and when 18 realizes she cant not just. her hearts are so squished by that. by seeing her friend treat himself like that #and if she foiled his plan before realizing this and now she needs him to step from the beink and not go down w his ship #and his tardis gets destroyed and. what is she gonna do. well obviously take him but what i mean is #when she takes him what do you expect her- to be all naggy and complicated about his morals?#ok maybe but shes gonna just let them both be messed up and trying to do better except when theyre not yknow #he can have little a murder as a treat. or. yknow. #Had an Extremely long Game Day with smol today and I think it fixed my brain so that's great news #Past week has been rough!!!! Got hit with a semi-minor anxiety episode and a pretty serious depression episode to bookend last week #I'm all good it's just - took a bit out of me lol #Any number of things really too many to list so I'll just sum up as blegh - feeling better now #Started a new printing project!! Looking forward to that hopefully gonna do some test printing tomorrow #It Should work out well but pfbtl I can't count on my formatting skills for nonsense - shapes wtf are those #Been drawing <3 Been writing <3 #Thinking quite very seriously about returning to doodle roots something awful #I tend to spend a Long Long time editing my stuff down by three different phases #Makes them very pretty! But I think I've had enough of that for the moment #New! Novelty! Needed and necessary and I'd rather Write about these than fuss more about how Pretty Or Not they are #They're pretty enough! I've made shapes on paper that previously didn't exist and now I can think about them as they are! Magic!#So that's the current plan - do still have One more step of editing to do before that lol but smol had offered me videos to listen to during #Good to have longer videos so I'm not constantly start-and-stopped #Oh and Pepper went into molt Again and just came out and he's genuinely gigantic now #And so dark! The thing tries for a hostile takeover first - burn him out of his own mind #And then Cain is like actually that’s not cool don’t do that and the thing is like oh my bad okay #And just slivers into his mind to twitch and tweak him from there. Which works. Sucks to be him #It’s a story about brothers and hurt and religious pain carried by one guy #Cain is gonna try and break every statue the gods have as their grave. Theo is gonna try and stop him #Not because Theo particularly cares for the gods (although Raya does) but because that’s his brother and he’s running himself into #the ground and something is very clearly wrong #I have no idea what I’m doing for a lot of it. But I also have a rough enough idea that I can use that and improvise on the way #Which is something that has worked for me very well previously #I give TCD a kissy on its head and lay it down to sleep for a while.
