Batman: The Knight is good but in my heart I know that Bruce Wayne was all of about 14 years old when he went off on his world training adventure.
Because if Bruce was running around chasing dangerous and morally dubious people before his voice even dropped, begging them to teach him, it makes a lot more sense why he’d see a grieving, angry little Dick Grayson years later and think yes, the ethical and normal thing to do here is to teach the boy to fight myself and give him his own costume.

pony turns the corner, making immediate eye contact with darry who’s sat on the couch with his head in his hands.
when he hears pony he stands up, wiping his hands on his jeans.
“pone, sit down.” this was weird. darry- darry wasn’t supposed to be home for ages. pony had just got back from track- so it should have been hours until he eventually got home. and he was biting his lip, eyes a little bleary- those uncommon but obvious telltale signs that something was wrong.
he complies, sliding onto the couch where darry was just sat. darry sits down opposite, on the old recliner were their pa would sit every night.
it was a weird sight.
“dar? whats-“ he starts, leaning forward slightly.
darry interjects, running a hand through his hair in a nervous tic he’d picked up from their father years and years ago.
“pony..” his voice trails off as he takes a deep breath, preparing for the correctly estimated onslaught of outrage and hurt that would be reciprocated from the message. “pone, baby-“
ponyboy’s breath picks up, bordering on hyperventilation.
“curly, he-“ the words hit like a punch to pony’s gut, a confused glance being thrown at darry with eyebrows furrowed and nostrils flared.
“he in the cooler? reformatory?”
darry gulps.
“no, no honey. curly- he died. i’m so sorry, pony.”
if the past words were a punch to the gut, these were a stab to the heart. a switchblade tearing across his valves and veins. drawing blood and smearing it across the walls.
darry grabs the stack of letters that’s sat on the coffee table, pony’s name written in scrawled handwriting on the front of each. he passes them to pony, sighing.
“tim- tim found these, in curly’s room.”
pony’s breath hitches, and he throws the letters at the wall.
“he’s not- he’s not dead, dar! don’t- don’t lie, please don’t fucking lie to me right now-“
darry shakes his head, moving to sit next to him.
“he’s gone, pony. please don’t do this to yourself-“
“how?”
darry tilts his head, confusion etched across his face. hidden in his frown lines, marked in his eyebrows and scribbled into the bruise on his chin. pony should probably ask him about that, shouldn’t he?
pony continues, glaring straight ahead.
“how did he- yknow.”
darry runs a hand down his face.
“stabbed, with a switchblade. tim thinks he was on tiber territory-“
“oh god.” pony murmurs. “oh god, dar.”
“i know, i know baby.” he wraps his arms around pony in an attempt to of comfort.
ponyboy begins to sob, looking everywhere but the crumpled letters on the floor, everywhere except darry’s teary eyed face. his hands were warm as he held him, pony’s were probably the opposite. cold and clammy, unfortunate and lost.
“i killed him, didn’t i?” pony cries out, hands gripping the back of darry’s work shirt.
darry pulls him in tighter.
“no, no. pony you didn’t do-“
“i’m cursed dar, look at me. everyone- everyone just. dies”
darry can’t think of good enough response, so he lets the silence fill the room up with thick smoke that curls around their bodies, intertwined in the hope that it will help him squeeze pony a little tighter.

in which zane did not know before he died
remembered this very old au concept i’ve had since i was tiny watching ninjago for the first time… it completely unravels everything i enjoy about zane in the early seasons and i refuse to think of the necessary rewrites atm but i needed to make at least this one scene exist. can an au be naught but a single panel that makes me Sad?

↖️ Andrew needs some way to make the spurned and eavesdropping nearby noble even more angry, and if he can do it by being sweet with his guard/consort? What a shame 👀
So Abram returns the favor in a slightly different manner ↘️

“The man is a public danger. There are lonely houses scattered over the moor, and he is a fellow who would stick at nothing.”
[…]
“I assure you, Sir Henry, that in a very few days the necessary arrangements will have been made and he will be on his way to South America.”
Reading it as a kid, I don’t think I gave it a second thought, but, uh… this seems kind of rough on South America.

Randomly thinking about “tolerate it” (narrator voice: it was not random) and how under the cloak of fiction it is ostensibly inspired by works like “Rebecca” (which Taylor said she read during the 2020 lockdowns I believe?), with the line of “you’re so much older and wiser” indicating that the speaker is significantly younger and inexperienced compared to the person she’s speaking to and a pretty direct reference to the plot of the book.
But I saw something somewhere once that stuck with me about how it might not be referring to relative age between the characters but chronological age as in the passage of time in a relationship. And that made me think about how in a contemporary context, it might not necessarily be referencing an actual age gap between the two characters, but rather a sarcastic or cynical response to the man’s claims that he has matured (“you’re so much older and wiser [than you were before/than you were when we met/etc.]”), which then made me think about that line in relation to the woman. And that it could be taken like, “you act like you’ve matured so much in our time together and like you know everything, while I’m supposedly still stuck as the girl I was when we first met.”
Which then made me think of the “right where you left me” of it all and did you ever hear about the girl who got frozen time went on for everyone else she won’t know it and the bit in Miss Americana where she talks about how celebrities get frozen at the age at which they got famous, and how she’s had to play catch up in a lot of ways not just in her emotional growth but kind of in general. (Which also made me wonder if she’s ever been called out for immaturity/lack of curiosity/lack of education about things in her life…)
Which then made me think about the rest of the song, and @taylortruther’s posts yesterday about “seven” and “Daylight” and the way Taylor idealizes her youth yet contrasts it with an almost sinister reality in its wake, and the line, “I sit by the door like I’m just a kid,” because the discussion raised that her relationship let her recapture some of the childlike joy and wonder she’d lost. So this line is a double-edged sword: the speaker sits by the door with childlike hope that the person will come home and cherish her, but on the darker side, feels like the child dealing with the monsters she doesn’t have names for yet and the feelings of isolation she felt as she aged.
I’m not saying the song is necessarily autobiographical; like most of the songs on folkmore, it’s clearly a fictionalized story based on media she’d consumed and created, but we know a lot of the fictional songs were infused with her own feelings and experiences and… This idea swirling in my head picked up steam and now I kind of can’t stop thinking about it. Sorry but I’m a little obsessed now.
Like maybe it might start to shed light on why she identified so strongly with the novel in the first place…

I don’t know, maybe it’s because I’m Irish and used to seeing all sorts of haha jokes about how weird our names are etc but yet I’m always surprised how surprised people are when I say that I find Welsh a pretty easy language to get the gist of. It makes sense! Welsh is something I know very little of but yet I find it easy enough to parse out the pronunciation of. I don’t always know what things mean but I’m not usually that far off in how they should be said.

fun trick your shitty managers don’t want you to know: instead of saying “this project was a shitshow because no one listened to me” in your cover letter, you can say “this project gave me valuable experience working with stakeholders with diverse perspectives” 😇😇

Ganymede tells Percy he has to go on a fetch quest before Ganymede will write him a letter of recommendation for New Rome University and with a cartoon sound effect Percy turns into a 2d version of himself whose head turns red and starts swelling and when it pops instead of a steam sound effect it’s just Walker Scobell screaming as loud as he can into a mic for ten seconds straight

idek why but this is Peak Romance(TM)
#the ending of Emma! is so warm and so funny#and so good#every emotional beat is so true#I also love the part where Emma learns that Harriet is engaged and she’s so overflowing with happiness#because one of her two obstacles to happiness has been removed#(And she’s working on the other obstacle her dad)#and it says she has to move around and talk to herself and laugh before she can be around anyone again#and I just—-aksjsjjsjdjdjdjd#I love it SO much. I have experienced that before!!!#just times where the overflow of happiness makes you so giddy and almost foolish you have to be alone#ALSO. I’ve been reflecting because years ago I read a piece of literary criticism that said that Emma never learns or changes#she’s Sad and forced to face the consequences of her Actions for like one afternoon#and then everything she wants to happen happens#and she gets to sort of just dance away with a sparkle in her eye#and the criticism was like ‘good for her but this is not a journey of change or growth’#and I’ve always been haunted by it because there is something true about it? Emma is still Emma is still Emma#and also because when I teach it I sort of have to be like ‘Emma has changed! and feels bad about stuff!’ because that’s just kind of#how you have to do it with teenagers/and/or it’s what THEY say#and I can’t contradict them but it doesn’t feel exactly true either#and I don’t know. it’s sort of hitting me this time around that there is just a deepening of Emma’s sweetness#in the second half of the novel and that’s why it always feels so warm#like. with Lizzy the change is so big you can absolutely feel it! it’s undeniable and it rocks her entire (internal) world#Darcy’s letter forces a change in her worldview. in her views of her family and her sisters and Wickham and Jane and just everything#but the box hill scene isn’t that with Emma —but it does pierce through …. something#some kind of flippancy maybe? coldness? she IS more likable in the second half of the book#and yet she is no different. idk I’m struggling to name it exactly#maybe it is a kind of growing up. it never feels quite as simple or as obvious as ‘now she has learned and will never do it again’#I actually think Emma will do it again a LOT lol (the small joke about shipping Mrs. Weston’s daughters with her nephews that Austen makes)#but it’s like—-the lifeblood of her heart has started flowing differently—if that makes sense#she crosses a threshold on the drive home from Box Hill when she sits in the back of the carriage and cries silently
