Note: "?" because I don't know if I'm actually going to continue this. All I know is that I saw this post from Liccy and couldn't stop thinking about it (hopefully you don't mind me leeching a little off of your fantastic hc). I just had to write something or else I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it. Unless I decide to make more of this, I'll keep this just in Tumblr for now.

Summary: While collecting firewood after a harsh day of traveling, Wild and Hyrule find themselves ambushed and alone, facing a mysterious enemy that wants Hyrule for something Wild doesn't understand... or more specifically: they want Hyrule's blood.

It’s a night filled with the chill of air fresh after rain. The damp grass and twigs lining the ground below the still dripping trees squish below Wild’s boots as he walks, his eyes sharp for anything that could be useful.

Today’s been a rather taxing day on his energy, and he can tell it’s been the same with the others. The constant rain has caused the paths to become slick with mud and the rivers too dangerous to cross. To top it all off, they don’t even know who’s world they are in; making it so that as they journey they don’t even know where they are going.

Wild hates the rain.

But luckily, he’s not assigned with the behemoth task of finding dry firewood alone. Hyrule walks beside him, his pants and tunic blotched with dark colors thanks to the puddle he had fallen into a few minutes before.

The quite literal stumbles here and there put aside… they’ve actually done a decent job at gathering firewood so far. A few hours into their search they both have arms cradling rather hefty loads of dry twigs and branches found in miracle spots hiding under rocks and undergrowth, untouched from the rain.

A cold win stirs, causing Wild to suppress a shiver as he straightens out of picking up another stick to add to his impressive collection. He probably should have worn a warmer tunic while heading out, but Wind was looking miserable in the cold and didn’t look used to this kind of chill, so he had lent his snowquill tunic and didn’t have the heart to take it back as the poor kid sat sniffling in the driest part of camp.

Wild mentally begins to make a list of things he has that could go in a warming soup once they have a fire going. If none of them have colds tomorrow morning, he will eat Legend’s hat.

“We should head back,” Wild calls towards his companion. Behind him, Hyrule straightens up from where he was quite hilariously resembling an old man squatting down to pick up a book they have dropped. His arms are overloaded with wood, and Wild’s sure if he bends any lower he would be struggling to pick up the sticks he will undoubtedly start dropping.

“You think we have enough?” Hyrule asks.

Wild hums and looks at the two armfuls they have gathered. They need enough to last them for dinner and through the night, and a little extra if the fire happens to go out from unpredictable rain storms through the night. It’s not like Wild’s scars would be able to help him tell the oncoming storms; they’ve been none-stop aching since they found themselves in this unfamiliar forest.

After a moment of sizing up their bundles, Wild nods. “Yeah, if we’re smart with it we shouldn’t have to worry.”

Hyrule snorts. “Smart with it? Tell that to the blacksmith. He’s the one that tried to light Vet’s hair on fire.”

“In his defense, Vet kinda deserved it.”

“He accidentally caught Wolfie’s tail on fire.”

Wild snorts. “To be fair, he kinda deserved it too.”

Hyrule gives an unimpressed look to which Wild responds with a grin and as much of a shrug he can manage without dropping anything. The wind brushes past them and through the leaves in the trees, reminding them both that the night is approaching and banter can perhaps wait until they’re warm at a fire.

“C’mon,” Wild says, “we should get going.”

Hyrule’s face splits into a grin and rushes to catch up with Wild as he begins to walk back towards the direction of camp. The sound of mud squelching beneath their boots accompanies his thoughts as they go. He hopes they’ve set up the pots and pans he needs to make dinner like he asked them to. He’d like to get something warm in his belly as soon as possible and it would be so much quicker if the others realized they could maybe help make dinner sometimes.

He’s in the middle of planning out his next moves once they’re back with the others when it happens. It’s achingly familiar too—the way the air seems to turn foul and the shadows of the trees grow within the blink of an eye. Through his travels alone… before he fought and defeated Calamity Ganon… things were hardly ever perfectly okay. Safety was always rare, and things could go sour quicker than what you would expect. Wild quickly trained himself to always be aware of the dangers around him, even if everything seemed happy and safe. It saved his back more times than what he could admit, even if the pressure of anxiety pressing down on his ribs was more constant than a place for him to spend the night.

He could sense everything about to go wrong a moment before it does. He’s not sure what’s made him aware of the change—whether it’s the quieting of crows or the darkening sky—but one thing is for sure, this time he’s not quick enough to stop it.

He sees Hyrule twitch besides him and drop all of the firewood in his arms right into the mud. His hands fly to his neck as Wild drops his load and pulls out his sword. He hears a zip and catches the flash of light just in time to jump out of the way of a flying arrow.

Immediately, Wild is in battle mode. With practiced movements that he doesn’t even think about anymore, his shield is off of his back and on his non-dominant hand just-in-the-nick-of-time to block two more arrows with an equal number of thunks. With rising adrenaline, Wild looks over at Hyrule and what he sees makes his stomach twist. There, just a few strides out of arm's reach, Hyrule stumbles and tugs his hands away from his neck; grasped in his fingers is a small, thin twig with a feather on one end and a metal glint on the other. It isn’t hard to guess what’s exactly going on as Hyrule stumbles again with fluttering eyelids.

This isn’t any old attack from monsters in the forest, Wild concludes as he begins to rush towards his poisoned friend.

This is an ambush.

Just before Wild can reach Hyrule, a form jumps down from the trees between them. Wild has a split-second to recognize the glint of misshapen armor bent to fit a large reptile's body before the Lizalfols is swinging a sharp boomerang right for his throat. Wild steps back and raises his shield before he could be hit, however he has to work hard to suppress a frustrated snarl as he’s forced to widen the distance between himself and the barely standing Hyrule. He can see the other hero struggling to pull out his sword as more figures emerge from the surrounding trees.

“Alright, ugly,” Wild hisses under his breath as he shoves his shield out with calculated power. He needs to finish this quickly before Hyrule gets himself more hurt so he can figure out what poison was used and if the others are okay.

The Lizalfos screeches and stumbles back, waving its weapon wildly. Wild takes its struggle to regain balance as an opportunity to rush forward and swing his sword right for the weak spots of its armor. The monster screams impossibly high with unhuman chords before falling limp on his sword, however Wild doesn’t have time to celebrate before claws dig into his shoulders. Stifling a cry of pain, Wild is forced to let go of his lodged sword to catch his fall on his hands and knees. The well-known shriek of a bokoblin reaches his ears as he throws his weight to the side to dislodge the thing. Luckily, he’s successful, ending up on his back with the perfect position to swing his shield at the exact right moment to hit the bokoblin right in the snout as it tries to jump at him again.

“Champ!” calls a shaky voice. Hyrule.

He doesn’t sound too good.

And judging how there are several more monsters here than what he remembered before ending up on the ground… neither of them will be too good soon if he doesn’t act.

He scrambles to his feet, barely noticing how soaked in rain and mud he is now, and grabs a stick on his way up that he had previously dropped. He swings it like a bat at the next closest bokoblin—mourning his sword and mentally kicking himself for getting it stuck in the corpse of a fucking lizard—but he only manages to slightly stun it for a moment before its running after him with pig-like gurgles quicker than what he can properly lift his shield. However, before the creature can hit him, there's the flash of a friendly blade, cutting the beast down mid-air. Before him stands Hyrule, looking very pale with beads of sweat trailing down from his hairline. Wild’s about to nod his thanks, but two things happen at once that makes everything go completely downhill.

Wild sees Hyrule’s eyes roll up to his skull right before the air is knocked out of him via a viscous swing of a tail to his ankles, resulting in him landing heavily on his back.

Monsters all around him squeal with glee as Wild attempts to catch his breath and struggle to his feet. However, before he can do so, the heavy body of the lizalfos responsible for taking him down lands on his back, expelling any of the air Wild had left in his lungs. For a horrifying second, Wild’s almost afraid his head is about to be removed from his body with the flash of a sharp boomerang.

Shockingly enough, that doesn’t happen. While he feels the blade slide right against his jaw, his skin does not break. With the tug of a clawed hand in his hair, he quickly finds this isn’t a kind of ambush that he’s used to. Most surprise monster attacks stay exactly as it appears to be: an all-out attack with no more intentions than to stab things and scream loudly.

This one however is proving itself to be a little different. They want something, something that they’d keep Wild pinned on the ground with a blade to his throat alive.

Thanks to the hand holding his head up by his hair—sending a rather vicious kink into his neck as he’s still stuck on his stomach—Wild can see Hyrule completely collapsed on the ground with a few monsters hovering over him with excited snorts and grunt.

He can’t believe the two of them have been bested by monsters as low in skill as these.

Something more has to be going on.

And, just as that thought crosses his mind, there’s the sound of booted feet approaching on the soggy ground. The new presence comes behind from where Wild is pinned, so he cannot see them. However, based on the even steps and the whoosh of cloth, he can at least infer that they’re not a monster… or at least something a bit more humanoid.

His suspicions are confirmed once the figure steps into view. They look the build of a Hylian; though below the cloak that covers their face and exposes nothing but the shadow of a pointed chin… they must be a rather tall Hylian.

Which definitely isn’t good. Monsters are one thing—creatures born out of hatred and greed—but a Hylian who’s born as pure as any other human and animal in the world choosing to work with monsters? Deal with wickedness? They’re always the bigger threat. If the Yiga clan alone isn’t proof enough that Hylia’s creations can inhibit more darkness than the lowest of beasts, then Wild would ask what shrine you've been sleeping in.

Not like he could ask that now, not as the cloaked figure steps right past Wild without sparing a single glance. Wild cannot help but feel his stomach twist in fear as the person kneels down by the unmoving and unarmed Hyrule. They place a pale hand on Hyrule’s forehead, making Wild’s skin crawl.

“Get away from him!” Wild snarls, digging his fingers into the mud and attempting to push the heavy lizalfos off from him, but all that does is cause the creature to hiss and tighten the blade.

The cloaked intruder doesn’t respond nor quit in their endeavors of getting too close to Hyrule for Wild’s comfort. In fact, Wild almost thinks they didn’t even hear him.

He’s about to shout out once again—angry with being ignored—but the breath leaving his lungs fall silent as the figure brushes back Hyrule’s hair with a verbal sigh. Then, to Wild’s horror, the figure pulls back to their cloak to bring out a small vial filled with a deep purple liquid.

“What is that?” Wild demands as the lid of the vial is popped off and lowered towards Hyrule’s pale lips. “Don’t you fucking dare-” suddenly the air is squeezed from his body, forcing his protests to cease, as the lizalfos leans more of it’s weight onto his back to press his face down into the mud.

He doesn’t see what happens next, but he can put two and two together when a few silent moments pass before those human footsteps begin to finally head Wild’s way. The clawed hand in his hair loosens ever so slightly as slim fingers slip under his chin. Next thing Wild knows, he’s blinking through dripping eyelashes at the shadowed face of the cloaked figure.

Wild, of course, takes the opportunity to spit a wad of mud at the face of his enemy thanks to his little face-meets-dirt session.

He’s pretty sure he hits his mark, because in a blink of an eye Wild is no longer pinned on the ground, but lifted into the air by his neck. His feet scramble for purchase when there is none as his hands fly to his throat. The pressure on his neck is so intense that he doesn’t think to try and look at the face of his attacker. He can only gulp for trapped air like a fish out of water. Then, just like that, the pressure on his throat is released as he finds himself thrown back into the waiting arms of various monsters. Before Wild can attempt to find his bearings, his wrists are twisted violently behind his back; the motion almost yanks his limbs from their sockets. After a few gasps, it's all Wild can do to stand there with their physical restraints of clawed hands and send a cold glare at the cloaked figure.

The cloaked figure radiates irritation from where they stand, but Wild spares only a moment to bare his teeth at them before glancing back to where he'd last seen Hyrule.

He can’t see Hyrule’s face, but he’s no longer laying prone on the floor. He’s currently sat up with his chin limply touching his chest as a pair of monsters work together to bind his wrists behind his back.

Knowing that villains don’t usually restrain corpses, Wild concludes that Hyrule is still alive and returns his anger at the cloaked figure.

Wild takes a deep breath and speaks through hissing teeth, “who are you?”

“I would watch your tongue, hero,” the figure says, their voice not distinct enough to be dubbed male or female. However, Wild can practically feel the annoyance in their tone traveling down his spine. “We don’t need both of you, and your small friend is not the expendable one.”

The words settle in Wild’s gut like moss covered stones. This really isn’t any normal attack or ambush… this was a targeted mission.

Hyrule is the target.

“What do you want with him?”

The figure chuckles, their shoulders bounce in such an undeniably human way that it makes Wild feel sick to his core. “It never fails to amuse me that none of you seem to truly understand just how much more powerful and important this one is compared to the rest of you.” The cloaked figure walks towards Wild with arms spread wide. “His blood alone is more powerful than any form of magic known to any sorcerer.”

“What are you talking about?” Wild spits, forcing his face to remain cold and angry despite the pool of confusion and fear that’s beginning to swell around those moss stones in his gut.

The figure hums and tilts their covered head. After another moment, they speak with an amused tone, walking slowly towards Wild. “That slate on your belt... you’re the hero from the far future, oh how convenient. Tell me, have you ever wondered why the monsters come back to life?”

Wild doesn’t get a chance to answer before the figure stops right in front of him. He hates that even though he cannot see their face, he can practically taste the smug victory radiating off from them.

“Don’t you wonder why the moon shines red with blood?”

Wild swallows. “What does that have to do with anything?” He looks over where Hyrule is placed. “What does that have to do with him?”

The figure chuckles and leans forward close enough that Wild can almost see an outline of a pointed nose. “Everything.”

Then, with a flick of their hand, something hard smacks against the back of Wild’s skull. The world spins and pain shoots through his head and into every speck of his body. He blinks, and suddenly he’s leaning bonelessly into the grasps of the monsters behind him, the corners of his vision going black.

The last thing he sees is the figure turning back towards Hyrule with a flick of their cloak.

Then, his eyes fall shut and he knows no more.

the adventure zone: graduation character list

Well, i accidentally deleted the original graduation character list post, so here i am making another one. Oops. And as always, if anyone has important details i should add then feel free to suggest them!

Here are all the characters introduced in episodes 1-25. Named characters only!

Also i can’t hide spoilers! So, um..... I can’t put spoilers on this one. If you need the version with spoilers try this version of the post that i made on the adventure zone subreddit but youre not missing out on much.

# -EPISODE 1- (19 characters)

Hieronymous Wiggenstaff (he/him): Head of the Hero/Villain school. at least 400 years old. wears shining blue armor with gold accents. also an elf. according to Tomas, he led the charge at the "battle of blood valley", brought the Kingdoms of Rickart and Dawnbreak to a peace treaty, and founded the school. a little boastful, a little prideful, [SPOILERS OMITTED], and overall a pretty good dude.

Higglemas Wiggenstaff (he/him): Head of the Sidekick/Henchperson annex, cranky old elf. has a dog named hero who shows no signs of anything strange at all, ever.

Gary (he/him): friendly room gargoyle. pseudo-hivemind.

Groundsy (he/him): the groundskeeper. a pretty nice fellow. don't go in his shed.

Hernandez (he/him): beautiful centaur professor of animal handling.

Jimson (he/him): human battlegrounds trainer for sidekicks/henchpeople, world famous featherweight champion, wields a staff. married to crushman.

Crushman (he/him): silver dragonborn with a sickle, and self-described beefy boy! heavyweight blood champion married to jimson. never lost a match for 8 years. full name Frostus Crushman.

Rolandus Fontaine (he/him): former prince, son of deposed king, kind of an asshole, maybe. wears a cape (important detail)

Zana (she/her): "terrifying" tiefling villain sorcerer, friend of rolandus. barkept the test tavern in ep2

Rhodes (she/her): hero ranger, friend of rolandus.

Buckminster Eden (he/him): hero guy. son of "The Iron Lord". their dad is stronger than rolandus's dad. his wiki page says rogue so i think hes a rogue? i never caught that and ive listened more times than i wish i did

Leon (he/him): softspoken buff, bald "fighter" (although i dont remember any clarification on how exactly he fights), sidekick of buckminster, around 28. anyone else keep forgetting he's bald? i keep forgetting it. >!gets sorta-drafted into becoming a falcon for higglemas and so far hasn't done much else.!<

Rainer Michelle (she/her): cheerful villainous necromancer with a floating chair. also, her name is pronounced "rainier" despite not being confirmed as such? travis ships her with fitzroy.

Tomas (he/him): human man with "kind eyes" and a good (psychic???) memory. guidance counselor.

Stewart LeBoeuf (he/him): brawny human man. serves food. there is no joke here, i promise

Mulligan (he/him): teaches potions. mentioned but doesn't appear yet. and we're like 25 episodes in. maybe we'll see him someday

Germaine, Victoria, Rattles (he/him,she/her,???/???): Skeleton crew. They live in the training room i guess, and as a result can never die, because "no one dies in the training room!" (note: someone now HAS to die in the training room). also their races are never explicitly stated but i guess they're probably human? in episode 3 travis brings up something about how many bones are in "the human body" and at this point i think i'm looking too deep into this so i'll just forget about it and you probably should too.

# -EPISODE 2- (9 characters)

Riveau (he/him): halfling, blame-taking teacher.

Mimi (they/them): gnome sidekick who builds cool robot prosthetics

Bartholemus (he/him): owl aarakocra accountant teacher, known for being the best accountant in the land and having a face some might describe as "smoochable". very pro capitalist :’( hope he gets better

Ramos (she/her): goliath teacher of shieldwork. *

Dip (she/her): sidekick, half-orc twin of pip

Pip (she/her): hero, half-orc twin of dip

Festo (they/them): fairy with "beautiful gossamer wings", independent study teacher of magic, loves to party

Snippers (he/him?): Let me tell you my story about Snippers the magic crab. When Travis gave the list of animals that Griffin could choose as Fitzroy's familiar's current form, he listed crab near the start, and this gave me excitement. Now i knew that crab was pretty unlikely but god i hoped that he would choose it. When the list went on- Bat, Cat, Crab, Frog, Hawk, Lizard, Owl, Poisonous Snake, Fish, Rat, Raven, Seahorse, Spider or Weasel- I nearly lost hope. I was hoping so hard that Griffin would choose the crab, but i was ready to accept a non-crab familiar. It was just buried in that list. It wasn't the most useful animal and it was an obscure pick. And as Travis informed him that it didn't have to keep the form for the whole campaign, Griffin said those five words i wanted to hear so, so badly. "Well then it's a crab." Folks, I do not often react physically when something happens in media. But in that moment, i remember very clearly, i fist-pumped and yelled, "YES!!!!!!"

so anyway, Fitzroy has a crab.

Jackle (he/him): kenku teacher of sneakery. creepy dude. apparently knows something about argo? also his name is not spelled "jackal" for some reason. Also in later episodes theyve started calling him "The Jackle" for some reason??? *

# -EPISODE 3- (1 character)

Dakota (they/them): tavern instructor, clad in black/red leather. no race stated? probably human. *

# -EPISODE 4- (6 characters)

Gerry & Tom (she/her, he/him): shopkeepers at barns and nobles who seem to have very bad names. also constantly competing for customers? these guys got dropped faster than the heathcliff quests, which is honestly just sad.

Barb (she/her): the bartender. runs Springs Eternal in Last Hope. has a sweet seeing-eye hawk familiar.

Jaryd Reginald (he/him): owner of Reginald Ore. Wants the workers to be held responsible for the damage caused by the xorn. (fun fact: originally i wrote down "Jerrod" because i wanted it to sound like a fantasy name, then realized it was probably "Jared" because theyre named after listeners, but i was pleased to find it confirmed that it's actually "Jaryd")

Candice (she/her): A Miner. thought those werent allowed in bars but, i guess not. Wants the mine owner to be held responsible for the xorn's damage.

Jade Johnson Esq. (she/her): lawyer.

# -EPISODE 5- (1 character)

Xorn: a big hungry gem eating guy from the plane of earth Low-Down Deep with 3 arms and 3 legs. why did travis just say "multi-armed" instead of specifying it was 3? who knows! Anyway it leaves

# -EPISODE 6- (3 characters)

Osric (he/him): the man, the myth, the bursar. finally shows up after being mentioned in episodes 2 and 4. he's an elf.

breeze through the willows (she/her): Pegasus attacked by demons, lost her parents. introduced in ep1 but gets a name here so fuck it. also in ep>!16!< we find out shes a "white arabian pegasus" and i dont think thats a spoiler bc we shouldve really known it from the beginning

Sabor (he/him): Librarian/research teacher. also a TORTLE. Really good at recalling stuff, i guess. kinda reminds me of Tomas's memory thing but i'm sure that's just a coincidence... *

Mosh (he/him): The goliath blacksmith who welcomes argo into the unbroken chain. Also, and this is specific to the tumblr version of this post, all the characters with an * at the end of their descriptions are also members of the unbroken chain. if someone knows how to do spoilers on tumblr please tell me

# -EPISODE 9- (2 characters)

Eeiïäá#æ&éñn (pronounced like "Ian") (he/him?): an imp but without a shitty voice. also happens to not be violent. what a coincidence?

Terence (he/him): a chain devil with a real demonic name. minor boss of the imps. very convincing and very threatening. has the frightening ability to make you zone out during his fight

Althea Song (she/her): elf with autumn-orange hair. representative from heroic oversight guild. i'd like to personally thank travis for spelling her name out.

Crabtree (she/her): Artificing teacher. Long gray hair with a long grey beard. no mentioned race, one might guess dwarf but that would be an assumption i suppose. also unbroken chain member, presumably the dwarf argo didn't recognize in episode 7.

# -EPISODE 11- (3 characters)

Marie (she/her): Grey-haired elf woman. She's the school's physician, i guess. Member of the unbroken chain.

Dendra Maplecourt (she/her): Fitzroy's mom. Has hot mint gum, i guess. She was mentioned earlier but i wasn't convinced she was a real person until this episode

Cool Gary (he/him): AYY ITS ME GARYR

# -EPISODE 13- (7 characters hhhyyyuu)

Kale (???/???): Head of the Placement Department, in charge of real world assignments. First mentioned in Ep4 but i missed that the last few times bc it is so brief. Gives exposition about missions i guess????? is that the only reason this chara cter exists

satyr thief (unnamed) (he/him): tries to rob thundermen, dies instantly

Ogre (he/him): teamed up with the satyr. his name is ogre.

Moon (he/him): A Sidekick. small pale sullen guy. no mentioned race. Why is there another FUCKING sidekick WE HAD ENOUGH hhhyuuuuuu

Deanna (she/her): A bigoted centaur with an obnoxious voice. Malwin the Strong's second in command.

Malwin the Strong (she/her): Leader of the centaurs of the scarlet woods. Wants to appease the spirit of the scarlet woods so that thecentaurs of the scarlet woods will be protected in the scarlet woods. Had a relationship with Arturas in the past but their clashes are currently known to get pretty heated.

Arturas (he/him): Leader of the Centaurs of the Valley, i guess. Had a relationship with Malwin. Centaur. Did i mention centaur? i cant think of anything else about this character

# -EPISODE 14- (2 characters)

Calhain (he/him): Human wizard, Malwin's magical advisor. Kind of an amateur wizard in a job high above his skill level. Graduated Wigginstaff's as a hero.

Spirit of the Scarlet Woods: A spirit who requires sacrifice in order to keep Malwin's herd safe and prosperous. Not keen on dubiously canonical combos, i guess. i wouldnt be either. also apparently the sacrifice depends on personal value, not how much value it has to the spirit.

# -EPISODE 15- (2 characters)

Sylvia Nite (she/her): Fitzroy's magic theory teacher at knight night school, who he turned into a catfish by accident. oops!

Chaos (they/them, maybe more): Presumably a deity, gave Fitz his powers and wants him to give in to his chaotic desires. (physical desc: 9 foot tall, iridescent 'mother of pearl' skin, pure white eyes, fine burgundy cloak with gold/onyx lining. their physical form beyond that seems to change every time they show up.)

some demins happened. the big dudes are called "Pit Fiends" and the armored demon ladies are called "Erinyes", by the way. that was incredibly hard for me to figure out the first time, especially without headphones, i thought travis was saying "pig feet" and i just could not discern what the other things were

Also i recently looked at the episode descriptions and found out his name is spelled "Gray", but really does it truly matter?

The Lich King aka Gordy (he/him): Rainer's dad. Commands armies of the undead. lives in The Crypt. described as a hooded, skull-faced man with intricate black lines on his face, but changes to a shaved-head man with dark skin and vetiligo. Abandoned as a babby, raised by traveling parents, had necromancy powers, took Rainier in. Not actually very scary at all i don't know why he did the creepy laugh. Kind of a warm fatherly figure actually. hm. also people are speculating Gordy might be short for Gordita and his parents are maybe supposed to be lup and barry but THAT S JUST A THEORY.

our firbolg's father (he/him): A firbolg who lived by the code and was there when our firbolg was banished. Came to respect our firbolg's interest in a new way of life, in his final moments.

I’m not sure about the premise, but DEFINITELY it ends in murder.

Someone posted a major spoiler during one of your liveblogs. The two of you track them down seeking revenge. It turns out it was the original creator of the series trying to stop you. For some reason Holligay is a CGI badger.

It's clearly a buddy cop movie, and like all good buddy cop movies, it ends with Doc almost dying, and you saving her, and slapping her wound in the hospital as the credits roll.

It ends as it began: with Holligay roasting you.

A straight detective and her lesbian partner have to solve the case of the missing cinnamon buns. It ends with nobody getting the guy OR the girl and you drive off into the sunset together, perps behind bars sans cinnamon buns.

I don't know what it's about but I know it will be the only movie that ever existed.

TAKE ALL THE FLOUR. Do it straight from the source: FlourCo Inc. What does a 10-pound cat do with eighty thousand tons of flour? If you can't figure that out, there's a reason he's the brains of this outfit. Mina would obviously be the bumbling lovable distraction to security or other people.

Bread. Mina is The Face who provides distraction to the Keepers of the Bread by walking up to them and being herself. Mina has absolutely no idea that Hot Pocket is using her in this manner because Hot Pocket is that Machiavellian, but Mina is a pocket full of sunshine in canine form and probably would just be happy to help out.

Hot Pocket knows that no mammal of the floor believes in flour anymore. It went away a long time ago. It doesn't exist. But what he also knows is that they're wrong. A lack of opposable thumbs won't hide the truth from him. He'll find the stash, and when he does, he'll stick his paw in it. Mina, with her limited climbing skills, will lick its remains from his claw and prove his discovery. As well as provide a warm place to curl up on for the aftermath of their adventure.

His goal is to sample every edible thing he can get his teeth on. Mina pulls triple duty as step stool, distraction, and scape goat

arpu, how can we connect to our intuition? i know some say "meditate" but my mind is not calm and my butt itches most of the time. i cant stay still

this is actually perfect timing because I’m feeling the same way so helping you is also going to help myself 🌞✊🏽divine timing fr ✨

okay the goal is to get your mind to stop double checking every thought you have. we’re wired to check the veracity of our thoughts and discard ‘nonsense’ that comes from ‘nowhere.’ the subconscious mind kills it before we’re even aware of it. it goes back to the renaissance/age of reason where the scientific method (that was developed largely by muslim/arab scholars btw!) was heralded and factuality became an important component of clear, rational, logical, good thinking. it’s what you’re taught in school now and what is prized in technological societies.

so, we need to let the brain know it’s okay (and encouraged!) to have thoughts where the source of origin is unimportant. fun story: I accidentally did this when I read Einstein didn’t remember anything that could be looked up. this integrated itself into my worldview very deeply very quickly and I found myself remembering only interesting things without remembering or caring what the source was. didn’t help when I couldn’t pull stats out of my ass while arguing with someone, but did wonders for my intuition.

we can do this through repetitive activities where conscious thinking becomes irrelevant and/or you assign importance to ‘nonsense’ thoughts. this is the core of meditation too if you think about it – its about focusing on a single thing and acknowledging thoughts but not involving yourself in them. these activities will calm your mind in a similar way to meditation and also help your restless ass lol

morning pages!! I personally do this and I love it, it’s helped me grow immensely, I highly recommend it. when you write down every single thing in your head and just empty it out without stopping to consider its worthiness, you are telling your brain every thought is equally important and more of the subconscious intuition comes through to the surface.

random associations!!!!! let your mind wander

play this game with your friend!

pacing! I do this a lot, there’s an origin story if you’re interested lol but the main idea is this: put on music you’ve never heard before and walk really fast and/or run till you can’t think bc you’re barely able to breathe. focus on the music and let your mind wander and go wherever the music takes it. soon thoughts that are completely unrelated will pop up and though they really are nonsense in the beginning, keep encouraging it and u can tell when they eventually have truth to them

dancing! focus on nothing but the music and go crazy. doesn’t matter what kind but fast paced usually works better. don’t think about how to dance, think about it as the music controlling your body! you stop thinking and in that space, u can listen to the under-thoughts that usually go unnoticed

tbh, any activity u enjoy that takes up a lot of your focus + peripheral wandering thoughts. gardening! cutting 1000 stickers by hand! copying a textbook so u study and develop your intuition at the same time! there’s a lot of ways to integrate it into your daily life once u know what it feels like. this is pseudo meditation too btw.

overthink!!!!!!!!!! I loved doing this as I drove to uni every day lol. i’m not saying to distract yourself while driving! safety is most important!! but after the 100th time I drove the same route, I became a pro at it and my lizard brain took over. it didn’t need my thinking brain to drive. so I thought and thought uncontrollably and my thoughts got more nonsensical and irrelevant and there was no connection and like I said before, they were ridiculous at first. just my fears coming through. but then they started having truth to them and I started getting information about the universe and our purpose etc. etc. I think I had the most breakthrough intuitions while I was in that daze. I could predict things really accurately, it was spooky. I recommend this but its a double edged sword bc overthinking doesn’t help have a happy, healthy life. use it as a stepping stone and don’t! drive!! while u do it. pace instead or pour it into a private tumblr.

also! give importance to these random associations/thoughts! document them or record them however you can. write them down, text it to yourself. this tells your brain they’re valuable and encourages their production

dream journal!! do it first thing as soon as u wake up. and within a week or so you can reliably remember a loooooot of what happens and it also helps lucid dreaming actually. since dreams are nonsense anyway, repeated action tells the brain to encourage these types of thoughts and voila! intuition developed in daily life!

you have to Want it! your intentions create another layer of under-wiring in your brain that grows stronger with use and influences the overall synaptic network esp. the parts that control which thoughts are important and not. so start being curious! let things like trying to make predictions and having super powers take up space in your brain! try and guess things before they happen or guess what random strangers are about to do or predict the score you’ll get on a test. the more you do it, the more u tell your brain this is an Important Activity and then it builds the required ‘code’ to make that function run better. you’ll be completely off in the beginning but then slowly your success rate will climb.

like anything in life, you’ll get a lot better with practice. even if what i’m saying sounds like nonsense rn, try it a few times and you’ll see what I mean. btw, you don’t have to stick to a single method!! switch them around, everything counts as +1. you aren’t starting from zero with every new technique.

these should be enough for you to get a head start! if none of them work, let me know a bit about yourself and I can probably come up with more methods custom made for you~

edit – special anon message for you: For meditation anon: There's a common misconception that meditation requires you to "quiet your mind" and disallow it to wonder, but really, it's more about getting into a flow state where you allow your thoughts to come and go with ease. It's mindfulness more than anything imo, acknowledging the thoughts but bringing yourself to a point where you aren't questioning/over-analyzing and thus reacting emotionally to them (like you ordinarily would throughout the day). It's okay to get distracted by your external environment or physical sensations, because you definitely WILL as a beginner, and still at times even if you're more advanced. It all comes down to practice, and the point is to train your mind, so any time you lose focus - Don't let it discourage you. Let it be a teacher of sorts. Refocus and try again. As you progress, you'll be less likely to get out of focus. Sitting isn't for everyone, definitely try things Arp mentioned, like walking!

Title: Imprisoning the Elements

You can pick up earth, hold it in your hands. You can shape it, toss it into a box. But the wind will flow through your fingers, laughing at you. Water flows, but it will hold shape in a container. It can be imprisoned, remaining water. But fire…

Only one of two things can happen to fire enclosed in a box. It will die out, smothered for lack of nourishment. Or it will burn down the sides of the box, flickering merrily at your futile attempts to catch it.

There are days when D can’t stand to look at Leon.

She looks at her mirrors, the rats scrabbling around her feet. Ah, there. Platinum blonde hair, blue eyes. Rich, handsome, talented, and utterly apathetic save for his reptiles. Drowning in the shadow of the prince, Robin Hendrix is one of her favorites.

A new development, that lovely young lizard. She sees Robin creeping out of the frame of the mirror, step by dreamy step. Digging her hook into her cheek, she nearly smiles. The rats scamper in fear.

Nice try little god.

Despair is patient.

When Robin looks into Medusa’s eyes, he almost misses the hook behind the prince. Almost.

Title: The Price

Notes: response to 8 "Beneath the Mask." I wanted to focus on the chief, wondering what his job costs him. Rather understated I think, but please let me now whatyou think.

Wrenching open his door, the chief gestured for the ranting detective to take his leave.

“Out! Leon, it’s Valentine’s Day. All the criminals are off romancing their mistresses. Why don’t you take off a bit early? I’m sure you can think of somewhere to go.”

Leon blustered a bit, a faint red tingeing his cheeks. But he grabbed his coat as he did so, brushing past a winking Jill. The chief humphed.

“Finally, some peace and quiet!”

Left alone in his office, the chief twisted the gold ring on his left hand and stared at a phone that wouldn’t ring.

Title: Einstein's Truth

Notes: This one was a pain to cut down to 100 words but it's done. Response to challenge 10 on the theme of time. Inspired by raison d'etat's wonderful fic "Unwilling Sleep" and the following passage from "Properties of the Light" by Rebecca Goldstein.

The passage of time is nothing real. It is a chimera spun out of gauzy consciousness, and nothing more, a frightful apparition tossed up by our mixed-up minds. We know this from Einstein's physics, which shows us a time as stilled as spread space. Time is static, the flow unreal: it is Einstein's truth, and it is the truth, falling straight away from the conditions of perfect symmetry imposed on the geometry. The ebb, which seems so terrible and real, which seems to carry off one's every treasure, leaving one like a chest spilled open on the waves: unreal, unreal.

At forty-five, calluses have long since formed on once-smooth palms. This is the choice he made.

The aroma of hothouse flowers manages to cover the hospital smell, signs of the respect the officers at the precinct held for their chief of ten years. Leon’s resting now, the bullet that had tore through his chest no longer paining him. Eyes shut, D rests his head above a stilling heart. Somewhere he knows that he is pouring tea for a loud-mouthed, loving detective. As Leon drifts away, into past and future, D knows that this time, it is his turn to search.

It is summer in Tokyo and past-time for some rigorous spring-cleaning. D assigns tools and tasks, arming himself with a duster.

The denizens of the pet shop are winning against dust and dirt when D stumbles upon a box stashed in the corner of his room. Within lay the gifts his grandfather sent from his own visit to Japan: the rake, the fan – and the kimono. D reaches for it, his hand unsteady. Suddenly chilled, he wraps himself in the kimono, trying not to remember widened blue eyes and blossoms falling to the ground in rushes of color and scent.

Notes: response to challenge 13, waiting. Just a bit of fun at Leon's expense.

Fingers the color of rich chocolate milk tapped impatiently on the desk. The hollow thuds landed in counter rhythm to the ticking of the clock. The chief scowled at a stack of files, then back at the time piece. Ten more minutes. If those reports weren’t in his hands by then he swore he’d – The phone rang, interrupting his mental threat.

Nine minutes and twenty-one seconds later a panting Leon burst in the door, shoving a large folder at the chief.

Orcot was a damn good detective, but he was the absolute worst when it came to completing his paperwork!

Notes: Response (albeit too long) to challenge 14, numbers. Takes place right after the first "Flowers and the Detective" story.

Yesterday they had posted the annual report for the 14th precinct: 1,038 cases of robbery, 69 rapes, 700 vehicle thefts, 1,065 aggravated assaults, and 19 homicides. That wasn’t counting the officer who had lost his life in the line of duty.

“Dammit Leon…”

“Chief?” Awakening for the second time, Leon’s bleary vision picked out the chief’s face, focusing on his eyes, red and dry as the Martian surface. As red as the petals from -

“Gattolotto...” Leon winced in pain. “Where’s D?”

“I made him go home; he was here all night.

“We caught the dealers. You’ll probably get a promotion out of this. But don’t think this means you’re not an idiot for getting shot.”

But the chief smiled. Last night they hadn’t known if Leon was going to make it. And he had already attended one funeral too many.

Since meeting D, Leon had suffered a lot of weird-ass dreams. Man-eating rabbits, and all that crap. But that last one had really taken the cake.

“If you leave my grandson alone, I’ll give you anything you want.”

Leon had recognized the man, nearly a mirror-image of D, save his eyes matched and lacked the glimmer that always hovered in his D’s.

He had said this out-loud and D’s creepy grandfather glared.

“What is it you want? Riches, power, immortality? Never see him again and I’ll give you an immortal life!”

Leon had never laughed so hard in his life.

Title: Father's Day

“Father’s Day”

Leon only spoke of his father once and he held very still while he did so. His lips moved, but the shadowy blue eyes blinked slowly, the rise and fall of his chest barely discernable. D gently pried the tea cup from his fingers and refilled it, his hand lingering over the Detective’s as he returned it.

D never spoke of his father. But sometime at night, when the darkness seeped from the corners of his room to surround, he’d tremble slightly. That’s when Leon would hold him, clutching D tightly and mumbling soothing words that had no real meaning.

Notes: Response to challenge 17, cold. I would have to say that of all Count D's one-shot customers, Jeanne and her story "Dance" are my favorite. :)

"Odile's Spring"

March in St. Petersburg is cold in a way that L.A. could never understand. Jeanne clutches the freshly-made bread close to her chest, the warmth soaking through her gloves to chilled fingers. Her parka is thick enough but still she envies the thick fur of the husky that runs past, chased after by laughing children. Jeanne smiles, loving the sound of the language, the thick accent that warms her ears. Her leg muscles loosen and her feet begin sweeping gracefully over the frozen ground. In Russia, Jeanne La Croix dances amid a flurry of snow, falling softer than swan’s down.

Title: "A Token of my Esteem"

Sometimes, when she was too caught up in a client’s portfolio, he’d bring coffee and donuts. They were the only sweets he could stomach. He never talked after sex. They never made love. When she told him the company offered her a prestigious job in Tokyo, he shrugged. She left him the apartment.

She recognized him the second she entered the pet store. She strode out, fighting back tears, a red palm print marring D’s perfect complexion.

“Christopher!” D glared at him, brandishing an armful of wet silk.

“Aw Count, live a little!” Leon joined Chris, swinging him around in an odd little jig.

“Detective! If you must dance, at least show him how to do it properly.”

Brushing droplets out of his hair, Chris gaped at a bewildered Leon, roped into waltzing in the rain.

Notes: #35 -Trick-or-treat. A new pairing for me. Let's see how it goes.

"Trick or Treat?"

Tetsu thrust hard into the pliant body beneath him. Finally the Count had seen the light. Sure, it was a bit sudden and completely out of the blue, but the toutetsu wasn’t about to protest. Not with the writhing body beneath him, the long nails digging into his back. He growled at the scent of his own blood, moving faster and deeper. As the Count arched up his back Tetsu leaned down and licked the sweat droplets off of one blushed nipple. The Count tasted of fresh peaches and cinnamon spice. At climax two cries echoed in the room – a loud howl and a shrill scream.

The toutetsu allowed his lower body to rest against that of his lover. Slowing his breath, he meet the Count’s mismatched eyes, only to stare in shock as black hair grew and shaded into red. A pair of sly golden eyes glittered up at him – a fox’s eyes.

Ten-chan leaned up and nipped the frozen man-eater’s nose. “Trick-or-treat T-chan.”

“Kindred”

Leon depends on his instincts while Jill prefers research. He’s hotheaded, she’s too trusting. Ted’s a joker, Marianne’s a cynic, Phil’s always late. But they’re all good cops. All the men and women who serve under him are. The chief won’t tolerate a dirty cop, or a lousy one. If that keeps him from the coveted promotion to commissioner, so be it.

As long as officers like Orcot and the others are on the force, he knows he’s not the only one kept up late at night by the dead’s silence, names slipping from his lips in a broken mantra.

Tumblr is probably going to make this post top secret for including external links but fuck it, this is not an official ad:

For a few years I’ve been maintaing the wiki of, and writing lore and plot (with others) for a Space Station 13 High RP server, Polaris.

It’s unique among SS13 servers in that it’s very much LGBT+ friendly (Most are kind of awful in that regard), but not an ERP server (There’s a few of those...) and I’d say 3/4 of the community are LGBT themselves and tends to be very left-leaning. We’re welcoming to everybody and have strict policy against racism, homophobia, transphobia and other bigotry, as well as the usual rules against griefing.

What’s SS13?

Space Station 13 is a free, open-source, community-developed futuristic space station simulator. Best known for clowns and hijinks and inspiring a torrent of retail games such as Barotrauma, it’s also deceptively deep (Atmospherics, construction, chemistry, medical, cooking, robotics, botany, slime breeding and many more are all fully fleshed out subsystems) which makes it ideal for hosting... Actual roleplaying on.

Typically, one or more players is assigned as an antagonist whose job it is to spice up the round with nefarious goings on.

It also runs on a server platform written in the mid 90s so it will run on a potato but it is also notoriously janky.

Alright what’s Polaris?

While most servers are based around goofing off and murdering one another, Polaris is among a handful of more serious communities focused on consistent setting and character-driven fun while still keeping in the spirit of... Occasionally being held hostage by the monster from The Thing.

While some of the terminology (mostly proper nouns) is shared with many other SS13 servers, Polaris has its own unique setting:

In very brief, it’s 2563 and you’re an employee on a corporate space station above a beautiful planet that uncannily resembles Iceland if all the trees were blue and covered in mushrooms.

There’s robots, cyborgs, cat people, lizard people, weird damp elves, robots who aren’t quite robots and are considered people, plant-like hiveminds, genetically fucked up bug-things, slime people and an assortment of birds, and they all live in relative harmony. Mostly.

Capitalism has run rampant and corporations essentially run the government - your typical cyberpunk-adjacent setting. Thankfully, social rights could be a lot worse.

We mostly sorted out the pressing social issues of the 21st century a long time ago (The universe could well be fully automated gay space communism, but the corporate sorts are miseryguts and want your money), and now the big argument is whether we should be allowed to use technology (cybernetic or genetic) to enhance ourselves beyond the “baseline” - a very nebulous term - and create fully self-improving AI systems. The government (Functionally the EU in space), based on experience, says “What the fuck? No.”, but mercurial scientists say “Why the fuck not?”

 1. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

Honestly, I don’t want to go far, California is a lovely state. But I would like to go more north. San Luis Obispo would be a goals city to live in.

2. Do you wear any jewelry? If yes, what?

I have so many necklaces but really only wear one or two. I don’t like rings and bracelets because they’re very distracting and they just get in the way. The necklace I wear most is a pendant of a silver deer head whose antlers branch into leaves- I usually keep my One Ring replica on that chain too. I did just get a cool silver raven’s skull with this Viking symbol on it so I’ve been wearing that too.

3. How do you spell this word: Colour or color?

Color, American English is not very fancy. We basic over here.

 4. What is one stereotype about where you live (country)?

That Americans are stupid? I’m inclined to believe that a lot of the time.

 5. Do you sleep with your closet door closed or open?

I haven’t had closet doors for MONTHS! I used to sleep with them closed and couldn’t even have them open a crack, but now I just have to stare into their dark void like depths every night. Perhaps there is some comfort to be gleaned by gazing into the abyss every night though because now it doesn’t bother me anymore. I’ve got my cat to protect me if any dark being slips through the gateway.

 6. What laptop/computer/phone do you use for tumblr?

I use my phone pretty much exclusively. It’s more convenient.

 7. What makes you bored?

I don’t get bored easily, one of the perks of having an overactive imagination, but when I do it’s usually because I just finished a show or a video game and I’m not ready to move on to something new yet so I just exist in limbo for a bit until I’ve fully processed and absorbed the story I just finished.

 8. What is your favorite four-legged creature and why?

Cats because they are wonderful beings of intrigue and mystery. Also, they’re huge adorable dorks.

 9. If you could live in one fictional universe, what would that universe be?

Now I love fantasy and fiction don’t get me wrong, but the universes they’re set in are usually highly dangerous. Also, most fantasy universes are fun because there’s the possibility to have extraordinary powers- so I would I be able to have those or would I just be a regular peasant? I’m most inclined to say Thedas because Alistair exists there, but I mean you gotta deal with Blights and Demons and stuff. Perhaps if I was a mage living outside the circle so that I could defend myself and have freedom. Otherwise maybe the Avatar the Last Airbender universe.

 10. Sweet or spicy?

Sweet, though spicy’s not bad either

 11. What do you order from McDonalds?

I’m not a McDonald’s fan, but they have good cookies and fries.

12. Favorite type of milkshake?

It used to be chocolate but now it’s none because I’m lactose intolerant

Curly fries! Fun shape, usually seasoned, win win!

 14. What was the weirdest text you have ever sent to someone?

Oh, I send a lot of strange things to my friends- usually stuff I find on tumblr. I can’t recall anything super weird though.

I do too many lazy things to quantify one as the laziest. Usually it involves procrastinating to the last minute to do an assignment because I wanted to chill instead and then suffering the consequences.

Nope, my anxiety and my stomach advise me not to touch them and I’m inclined to listen

 17. Last time you threw up?

I honestly don’t know? It was at least a year ago.

I suppose there are perks to looking like a newborn goblin because nah

Olive Garden’s Capellini Pomodoro was so good, my mom and I used to get it every New Year’s but now they don’t serve it anymore

I may be able to draw, but that artistic talent does not transfer to pancakes. I tried to make pancake art with my friends once and I failed miserably. I’ll stick to the vaguely circular abominations that I usually make lol

 21. If you were an animal, what animal would you be?

Is dragon and option? If so I’ll always pick dragon. You get to be a giant lizard, you get to fly and breathe fire and can easily crush your enemies underfoot! (not that I’ve ever really had enemies). If it has to be a real animal then I’ll pick a Harpy Eagle. Those things are big, bad ass as heck, and really pretty.

October Country: Goal Breakdown

So here I thought I’d break down more clearly my high-achieving goals for October, as in order for them to be achievable, they need to be broken down into major parts, and then further down into tiny, almost-daily habits and tasks.

So my goals for school/ career:

1. To mold my education into what I need it to be

-alter my relationship with the people surrounding my education, and confronting my own sense of authority

[Communicate with those who have disrespected me immediately, write down my own standards and goals and stick to that vision, set a priority list, assert my own expectations in what I need from people as a working adult, understand and be respectful of others faults but don’t budge on my standards, be okay to take self care and time away if needed]

-to take learning seriously and go above and beyond in what I allow myself to learn and study

[create that ‘goals’ scholarly schedule again and stick with it; get interested in documentaries, books, articles, TED talks, whatever will inspire you to learn about the world, the environment and culture; learn history; watch more movies and read more books you are interested in; go full deep overhead in novel research every single day and don’t be afraid to take time out of ‘homework’ schedule to do so]

-to take initiative in what is important to me to focus on, and what can be put lower down in the priority list

[create your own education and what is important this month, not what others want you to think is important, only you will know; remember that this is your education and you may choose to put your own things above their things; be congruent with your standards and really think them through, don’t just get pissy about others bossing you around, set your standards effectively and COMMUNICATE them]

-create distinct separations between my life life, and my school life, meaning doing things ‘other’ than school during my weeks

[schedule other things other than school like gym time, events, friends, coffee dates and beers, mini trips, movie nights, potlucks, pj day, backwards day where you watch tv shows all morning, going to a class, etc; separate large chunks of time effectively and make proper use out of entire days off, AKA don’t just work for three hours on one thing and that’s it]

-create a proper routine/ schedule/ system around getting stuff done effectively

[every single week and every single day you should be planning out effectively, October is way too busy to be just ‘winging it’. When we don’t plan, we can waste so much possibly effective time (such as a break at school or a night off) which in turn will take time away from your own stuff, hanging out with friends, or having an actual night off completely. It will also in turn make you more stressed because you will find you are ‘always’ working, but it is because there is so much time you will waste not working productively or effectively and instead moving at a snails pace]

2. To construct a full and proper rough draft of my novel

-make a proper outline/ storyboard

[that means immediately. And go analog]

-actively exchange my novel with professors/ editors and peers

[that means immediately. Get that story together, and don’t be afraid of being perfect, that ego needs to be let go if you are to be a real author]

-create my own standard routine/ process and not let anyone tell me how to manage myself

[ASAP you need to create that priority list, ask yourself: what is important to me right now? What am I working towards? What is my own vision and my own assignment list. Everyone else’s assignments should come after. Remember this. Your English class is your elective, that’s all!]

-create a home space where I actively work

[home bases are important so that you are not heavily relying on just the coffee shop, it also helps because at home you can actively spread out your process and keep returning to it, without cleaning it up]

-amp up my presence on social media/ wattpad/ tumblr/ etc. to become more involved

[if audience is important to you, then get back to your roots when you used to write fan fiction and be actively involved in that community, involve real people, share your knowledge and inspiration and writing in REAL time in order to disconnect from the university and connect with the actual world out there]

-to become more involved in the real world of storytelling, AKA meeting real authors, going to events, and researching about careers

[Like before, set your own importances, not what others set out for you. Get active in the world, that is how connections are made and don’t be afraid to step away from the university, you don’t work there 24 hours a day every day, they do not hold a domineering leash over you]

-I need to hold my vision in my arms and learn to hold my own authority

And my ‘life’ goals:

1. To become fit

-go on more walks/ hikes and get out into nature

-find a fun fitness activity to do in subset during the week of school

-find a particular training activity that I like, and do it

-get into a yoga routine for the things I need aid in: stress, meditation, flexibility, stretching, and breathing

-I need to plan before each week and stick to those plans

2. To eat and fuel myself properly

-plan my weekly meals and meal prep to the best I can, or purchase healthy meals out if necessary

-plan and equip myself with better snacks throughout the day

-switch off having so much coffee (limit 2) and switch with tea or mushroom coffee

-make sure I am setting out a day to buy proper groceries

-have fun and try autumn cooking and baking!

3. To experience more out of my free time

-subset particular times for watching youtube videos, watching a tv show, social media

-take advantage of the fact that it is AUTUMN, aka, your favourite month. This is the month of spookiness, autumn leaves, sweater weather, Halloween, horror and all things festive and romantic. Take advantage of it before it disappears.

-take advantage of night time work/ play and ‘wasted’ time during the day

-implement more ‘reading’ times

-section out ‘large’ days more effectively

Anyways, that’s all I’ve got. It’s intensive, yes, but I am trying to go after substantial change, but in little daily changes

Daily, what to focus on:

-make use of night time work/ play, don’t waste it

-plan out ahead of time (including work, play, food, fitness and clothes)

-make time for people and things not concerning school

-follow your own authority and your own path, be strong enough to not subside on your standards

-enjoy learning and growth, learn about everything

-take full advantage of autumn in everyway you can, say YES

-explore your field in all avenues

-go full steam ahead on your project, no turning back now, trust yourself and your vision

-SHOW people, it's time

-learn to find the little joys all around you, share them with friends :)

-learn to work for the audience, learn to be strong for those people and inspire them

-communicate your expectations, stop hiding

-if you need self care, do it, do not let others speak for you

-get active and moving

-give all you’ve got in class

-become a scholar this month, in whatever this means to you

-don’t focus on those who don’t value you, or invest in you

-love getting up early

-TAKE care of yourself

-remember, school is never more important than your life or your relationships

-learn to write for pure joy again, and to create

and most of all;

*turn this month around, this is October country now, and you are the director. That means no one tells you how to run your movie, you hold the vision and the story and you get to direct those in it. Don’t keep those who don’t share in your vision and value it, learn to understand others wishes without sacrificing your authority, keep your joy and love, treat others with respect, no matter how annoying, and keep trudging on through your work. Beware the autumn people, because they are more powerful than they believe. Quiet they may be, but loud in their dreams.

Insurance not paying a claim!?

Boy this is a good one & I don't know what to do Next! I went with the Lizard insurance even though they are Snakes and don't want to pay for any Claims! It started in 2010 with my truck, I took it to where they told me and they only paid for cosmetic damage even though there was a lot more including my steering was so bad I had to stop driving it. I wanted to take it to a shop that I had my truck lowered which because of we're I lived and the shop was I couldn't drive it, 65 miles. I had AAA tow it to my new house and from there after 2 years of not driving my truck they agreed to have it towed 7 miles to the shop. Well I told the claims adjuster what was wrong, he told me I needed to write a list and drop it off at the shop so I just got my Chopper back from the shop and went down to where my truck was a wrote a list of what I thought was wrong. Here is where the first of my troubles started, on the way home I am riding on the freeway and a truck to the right of me had a blow out and a Giant tire flew right in front of me, I couldn't do anything other than to run it over. It happened so fast, I hit it and made a brown spot in my shorts, jk. I then noticed smoke coming from my Chopper, it was Bad so I pulled over and noticed that my tail light was knocked off and caused some damage and the bold that holds my tail light on came off and rubbed on my new Avon 250 tire and Melted the side wall. I was able to ride home and once I saw all the damage I knew it was a problem. I called the Lizard and made a claim. The claims adjuster called me and said he will be out that Saturday, so saturday came and I never heard from him, I had his number and left a message, so this went on until Thursday and I called the lizard again and they transferred me to the AH boss and I left him a voicemail. Well I didn't hear from him as a few more days went by so Called back and got his boss's boss. The next day I got a nasty voicemail from the claims adjuster bitching at me. I called customer service and told them he went off on me and they can hear my voicemail too but no one listened to me. So I was told to call his boss, I said then I don't want this claims adjuster to come out, I don't want to speak to him or have anything to do with him. They were so sorry and said they totally understand and later that day the big boss called and I told him I hadn't heard from the adjuster other than a nasty voicemail and I want someone else to come out and not him. The boss said I understand and he will take care of it. So two days later the rude claims adjuster showed up at my house to take care of the claim, I was shocked it was the AHole I didn't want to come out but his bosses boss told him he better get out there and take care of this. Well once he was there, he wasn't as nice as he had been and couldn't be more rude than he was. I told him what had happened and the Damage, all he said was Prove it, Prove it, Over and over with everything I showed him. It caused major damage to my shocks and front forks, he laughed and said they are designed to roll over things and that it couldn't happen from hitting a tire in the road, well it can because that's exactly what happened. He was such a AHole I said, why did you even come out, did you just come here to be a @ss Hole or what!! He didn't say a word and just left. They paid out just a little for damages to the paint, tail light and the tire. The tired was new and cost 500 but they paid me 100 bucks for it. Mean while my truck is at the shop still to get looked over for the damage and they didn't pay a dime and the worst part was when I got the truck back from being towed, I started after the tow truck drive let it down and it sounded funny, then I smelt burning plastic so I opened the hood and my entire air intake system was gone!!! The burning was th vacuum hoses laying on the headers. I called the shop where my truck was and they said they are not sure what's going on but to call back. Well they are no longer in business and I lost all that so I called and opened a claim, now they are investigating me over this. So I have damage from 2010 that has never been fixed, my bike isn't right and someone had stolen my Volant cold air intake that's not being taken care of. What do I do? This is BS, I don't deserve this from my insurance Company and for them to treat me like they have, not pay out the claims. I needed my truck smoged Dec 31st so because all the parts to have it smogged weren't there I couldn't have it down and I have a ton of late fees with the DMV in California. My Volant is smog legal, I have the Ca numbers for it but it doesn't matter, I am getting the run around like no tomorrow. I will Drop GIECO and go with Farmers but not until my truck and bike are fixed. I have called everyone I could at Geico and no help!""

I have a 99' silverado LS 5.3 liter truck. It was hit in the parking lot by some fool at work and now all the body panels on the passenger side are dented. Everything that is wrong with “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” that shouldn’t be

This is cross posted from my LJ, so is a little “behind” on date - (and yes i forgot Tumblr is a blog - duh!) Anyway, context.. I went to see Valerian at teh cinema because it’s one of those films that my partner and I recognise as being a ‘Cinematic visual masterpiece’. Which should be seen on the big screen. Although we went for 3D rather than IMAX because it didn’t seem to need the IMAX touch – though maybe we should have gone to IMAX because the focus was totally off on the 3D and we have issues with “Ghosting” and the occasional tearing of the image.. which was just weird - but not enough to give me motion sickness. but I digress.

Beware here be spoiler and ranting

Basic Premise of the story – (note this is a very cursory overview), we have a brief overview of earth going into space and becoming a hub of space commerce, the international space station grows and grows to become a port of call for intergalactic travelers. Eventually it becomes too big, threatening the planet (I guess it’s because it could plummet to the earth and create a disaster on a level that would wipe out the planet) so it is pushed into space. And by the 28th century (earth time?) it has carried on traveling but has grown has been is re named “Alpha” and is the “The city of a thousand planets” a hub of knowledge and mostly co-operating cultures (it’s a little like Zootopia the city) . .

Cut to a planet Mul (pronounced Mewl) where we see a peaceful idyll enjoyed by a race of what look to be aquatic based life forms (that, strangely enough, look a lot like the Maasai of Africa if they lived on a beach) who are living their daily life, doing their thing, harvesting pearls (which contain huge amounts of energy), and then using these weird little lizard creatures (Mul converters) to create more pearls and return them back to the planet, in what seems to be a form of sacrificial offering (sacrifice as in offering dumped into a pool of water). When suddenly the skies darken and death starts to rain from above. Large pieces of space ship being to drop into the atmosphere and hit the ground. In panic and curiosity the people investigate one of the large pieces and find a spaceship, they climb inside and shut the door to protect themselves. In doing so the handle falls off so the door cannot be opened. Trapped inside they are unable to open the door for their princess who is trapped outside while a wall of fiery death is approaching. They watch their princess die as the wall of fire approaches… in her death the princess releases a flash of light (which is her soul) which flashes out into space and….

… Seems to hit our titular character (Major) Valerian (Dane DeHaan) who is R&Ring on a holo-beach simulation based on his ship. Which he shares with his subordinate (Sergeant) Laureline (Cara Delevingne). Valerian and Laureline are agents of a galactic wide military organisation, they appear to answer directly to a governmental office within the planetary government. Contacted by the Minister of Defense they are sent on a mission to retrieve a stolen “converter�� which is being sold in a black market deal in a universal market. Cue a heist movie? Where they grab back the stolen merchandise which is one of the little creatures from Mul which they take to the space station Alpha to return to the Galactic Federation via Commander Arun Filitt (Clive Owen) . Valerian and Laureline are then assigned as bodyguards to the Commander while he has possession of the “converter”.

During a meeting of the space station’s council, they are attacked by a previously “unknown” group of people who incapacitate the people and kidnap Commander Filitt. Valerian chases the perpetrators into an area of the space station that is currently registered as a dangerously radioactive area. And after “misc adventures” himself and Laureline discover that the survivors of Mul are living there and creating a way to re-create their now dead world. The Commander (who inadvertently destroyed their world by ordering a devastating attack on an enemy they were fighting in a war that ended up next to Mul) is seeking to cover his actions (as he was warned the planet had non-primitive lifeforms on it but chose to use devastating weaponry on the enemy and so triggering the rain of death that killed Mul) of effectively perpetrating war crimes. By wiping out the only witnesses – the Pearls. It turns out the pearl that Valerian picked up during the deal gone wrong for the converter and the Mul Converter are needed to create the power needed to create a facsimile of the planet Mul on a space craft that is going to be launched into space. Cue fighting and stalling and craziness culminating in the launch of the Mul Pearl ship, the reveal of the Commander’s complicity in the destruction of the planet Mul, the death of several security and command staff of Alpha and the capture of the Commander. Leaving Valerian and Laureline in space in an old International Space Station pod awaiting pick up by their organisation/or space ship Alex. With the two seemingly solidifying their relationship???

The only initial comment I have for this movie is that it is half a good movie. In the same way that the Live action movie of Avatar the last air bender (’The Last Airbender’) was half a good movie. Visually it is amazing, no expense has been spared to reproduce the universe created by the original comics. But unfortunately the same level of detail has not been spent on the script, which is sloppy and lacklustre, the editing which spends a long time lingering on the effects heavy scenes, and the acting.. Which lacks any form of charisma what so ever.

I realise that this might put you off watching this movie but visually it is amazing. And if you have a subscription or something it is worth seeing it on the large screen just for the “Space” alone. Unfortunately I suspect once it loses the enormity of the screen, and the depth of the 3D, like Avatar the Cameron movie, it will look a little like a collection of cut scenes from a computer game because unlike The 5th Element it lacks the charisma and pacing of story which makes the movie cohesive.

The main over all glaring complaint I have is the so called “love” story that takes place between Valerian and Laureline, because it has no love it in what so ever. There is no on stream chemistry between the two. Their interactions are on a level with two people who know each other but aren’t really attracted to each other. To be honest that could have been cut out and you would not miss it at all. Plus the ‘character’ of Valerian is totally un-empathic. He is 2dimensional, appears to be a serial womaniser, he makes no emotional connection to his paramours collects them as a “playlist” and the to make it more off, it appears that he they are his subordinates so he uses his position of privilege to “seduce” his female Professional Military Subordinates into a physical relationship……. So.. sexual coercion by a superior to a subordinate???

As a viewer of the movie I found it extremely hard to empathise and follow/side with this character He epitomised absolutely everything wrong with a white male privileged lead character. He is also a complete mystery as to his motivations he appears to be a reckless Maverick who gets the job done but forgets things like innocent bystanders and collateral damage, however he then starts to spout rhetoric about following the rules and being on point for the galactic federation?? On one hand he’s “I am unable to open up and let people in” but then proposes marriage to the Sergeant for no good reason than “I like you because I can’t have you”.. infact throughout the whole movie the only truly meaningful relationship he has is with Bubble, the exotic (truly exotic) dancer alien who he abducts?? To use in a dangerous mission to rescue?? Laureline.

Laureline is an equally schizophrenic character.. on one hand the epitome of the “strong female lead, functional practical and thinking, yet on the other hand she seems to somehow “fall in love” with this serial womanizer for no other reason than he keeps pestering her. Everything that I thought we have ditched in lead female characters over the last 10 years is revealed here.. She does a lot of the leg work but is overshadowed by the male lead. She is “strong” and “opinionated” but “falls in love??? with the shallow lead character” I assume because, al-la Disney princesses, he has pursued her to the end of the movie and not taken NO! As an answer (danger-danger Will Robinson….Danger! - in the real world this could be stalking???) she is the only character who actually knows what is going on, but is mostly ignored by the lead character except as an object of sexual pursuit (indeed, even the professional strike team at the market spend a lot of time giving her the puppy eyes rather than acting in a professional manner). Laureline’s sole purpose it appears, is to be artificially thrust into dangerous situations so the male lead will “rescue” her and be a “hero”. She is side-lined, ignored and backburnered until needed by the narrative to look “pretty” and be rescued. Indeed she spends a lot of her time in revealing, outfits that seem to only gain coverage when she needs to do stunts.. (I will note that while I can understand that she is, largely living in controlled environments which mean that clothing to keep warm is not necessarily a thing, she is a professional military agent on duty.. so I would have thought even a vaguely “professional” level of attire would be a thing, and possibly putting on even a uniform jacket when speaking to the Superior might be a thing.. - again there is the possibility that the organisation she works for has a hiring policy similar to that in ‘Barbarella’ but even so, it just felt off. )

I have to say that the level of Misogyny in this movie is spectacular. Indeed it was like watching a film from the 1980’s – 90’s but without the filter of “it is from a different time where this is acceptable”. All of the main important characters are male (although they are a diverse set of male characters) what females you see on screen appear to be there for the visual diversity alone – case and point. The team are on Alpha receiving orders from the Minster of Defense. The minister addresses the group as Gentleman an Lady (singular – referring to Laureline) however there is a female aide stood with the crowd …so it is “ladies” the aide is completely and utterly ignored (yes this could be an error on the part of the director setting up the scene after the dialogue had been created but still!).. in fact this same aide character is present in the command room throughout the film and has little to no reason to be there she is ignored, and never really acknowledged. All the real, meaty action stuff is done by the male characters. A wonderful example of the “token female presence- there to lend visual diversity but little more than set dressing” - when all the action kicks off and the robot shocktroops mow down the command centre, the female aide takes cover with the coms officer?? (he may have just been a lieutenant) the commander shouts across the room to get to a console in the centre of the room, the Commander (whose name i have forgotten) never once addresses the female officer, or even acknowledges her existence to find out if she is okay.. as far as the scene shows she could just be a piece of the office furniture.

Laureline “falling” for Valerian due to his faithful ‘pursuit’ is just painful to watch. She spends the whole film ignoring his come-ons, being sarcastic and rebuffing his advances then at the end.. falls into a clinch with him for no good reason than it’s the end of the movie and this is what should happen :o .. There is absolutely no chemistry between these two characters at all through out the movie, except for snark and rebuttal. The only level of relationship implied at early on is officer and subordinate, which no real attraction shown by the subordinate to the officer. The conversations are short and flat, with no outcome that would indicate a reason for them to be together at the end.

Indeed you could re-edit the movie and remove any and all references to this supposed romance and you would never know it was there..over all it is just completely distracting and superfluous to the main story..

Now I have to explain.. I don’t normally notice Mysogyny, i have always self-identified with the protagonists (usually Male) so i seriously do not notice female side-kicks and/or characters as anything other than story devices (literally ambulatory plot progressive device - Its a by product of growing up on a diet of action movies from the 80’s/90’s) but for even the idea of Mysogyny to trigger my stunted and tiny Mysogny radar then there has to be somethign wrogn with this plot..

I mean the fact that such a character as Laureline, could be created and placed on screen in today’s cinematic world, just flabbergasts me.. given the degrees of complaint put forward of 2 dimensional female characters, of sexual objectification, etc.. This woman, who is a professional, military level, security agent spends the whole movie being hit on by her superior officer, and pretty much any male character she meets. It is just astounding. Even the exotic dancer/prostitute character Bubble has an easier time of it than Laureline. It is writing like this that is fundamentally dangerous because it give impressionable males and females the idea that as a male if you have an object of your desire then you pursue them until they capitulate and say “yes” (which isn’t a proper yes, it’s a coerced yes) they they “will be yours”...

Simultaneously impressing upon females that if a guy pursues you for a long time, and does not take no for an answer, that even though you show no interest in them what so ever, then you should capitulate (presumably as a reward for persistence rather than any real emotional connection) this type of relationship advice is so very dangerous. And is very much on par with Mr Grey from 50 shades of grey… (you know creepy stalker dude who pursues an reluctant woman until she gives in etc).

Now you could say I am reading too much into what could be thought of as a shallow piece of fluff, but seriously if I am picking up on these vibes then there is something fundamentally wrong with the writing and characterisation. Because I do not identify with female characters and as such never truly see the whole White Male Privilege thing unless it is pointed out.

The film itself is bloated.. it reminds me of “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”, or even the cityscapes from the live action “Ghost in the Shell” (Funnily enough another movie that employs Weta for effects???), we spend so much time effects-wanking. Pouring over effects lovingly created with a multiplicitude of levels and detail… that we give up Story time so background that could have been used to flesh out the story as a whole is dumped for lovingly detailed fly-bys of the various places we are in.

A good example being ‘Alpha’, where we are treated to a visual extravagansa of all of the various habitats (which reminded me so much of Zootopia), along with an N’th degree description of the people and environments they live in which takes about 5 full minutes. which was largely pointless because we only see maybe 3 environs, which could have been introduced via various pieces of dialogue while characters transitioned the space station etc. I mean look at Disney’s Zootopia - they give you the gist very quickly as Judy travels into the city via a train ride, no messing and takes probably 30 seconds to a minute.. or better still, compare that with the Guardians of the Galaxy description of Knowhere which is a bare bones voice over by Gamora complimented with a little on screen text.. less than a minute possibly 2 if you take into account the “parking the ship fly-past” ..the description is clean perfunctory and combined with the visuals tells you the viewer everything you need to know for the scene. We don’t need to see all the habitats and living areas to know they are there and it actually does nothing for the scene, especially as later on Valerian goes on an exploratory crash through every layer and habitat to get to the people who kidnap the Commander. Visually informing us the viewer of the differing levels of the space station (crashing through things appears to be a thing Valerian does a lot) in a very direct and interactive way.

Over all the film suffers the same problem that the Live-action “Ghost in the shell” has, it has a bunch of iconic scenes lovingly reproduced from the source material. However this is at the expense of the story and characterisation. It could be that Luc Besson is so overly familiar with the source material that he has forgotten that you can’t take the character at face value because you have no baseline for his character. I as a person who has never read the source material come to Valerian as depicted on the screen and find him totally reprehensible. He is arrogant, womanising, shallow and wholly unattractive as a possible love interest. He doesn’t care and forms no attachment at a fundamental level, his former entanglements being “affectionately” known as his “play-list” this is not a character that I can get behind. Especially as the actors choice in depicting the character is cold, smug and arrogant, why would I care about that person. why should I want to follow this person through their adventure? - I will note that now I have taken some time to look into the character’s background and found that he is this way because of his training and past life experiences. But there is no signals to this on screen so why do I care about this character. I don’t. His singular pursuit of Laureline is reprehensible to me, not only because he is in creepy stalker mode, but because she’s his subordinate in a position of hierarchy. And no matter how “strong” she is, she is in a position where, because of the chain of command, she is psychologically placed in a position where you do not say no to a superior officer. (This is why this sort of thing is strictly and explicitly covered by regulation in the armed services) now if she had genuinely returned any sign of affection during the movie then I would get it, but she doesn’t. But he pursues her relentlessly throughout.

Compare this with Peter Quill in Guardian of the Galaxy – a comparable character, you are shown his mother’s death, his age at which this happened and when he was abducted, removed from his family and home environment and raised in a male centric bachelor environment this is imparted over the course of a pre-credit cold opening followed by his pre-theft of the orb from Morag and his complete dismissal of his current sexual conquest who he openly admits that he “forgot she was there”.. he makes no emotional attachments (especially to women) because he is scared they will leave him. He has grown up in an environment of bachelor hierarchy where emotions and feelings are not entertained and an aura of bravado and machismo must be maintained to keep one’s standing in the pecking order. So his background is given to us, over the course of two story advancing scenes which do not slow down the pacing.. but tell us exactly what and who Peter Quill is and why he is.. With Valerian all you get is a passing comment that sets up that he is a Major in an vaguely military level organisation, and that he has had a series of female companions (mostly his direct subordinates) who he uses and looses. You are also treated to scenes of him being a maverick and reckless in his performance of his duties, but - much later on contrary to everything that has happened in the story to date he suddenly becomes fanatically devoted to his organisation’s cause??? a little character quirk that is hinted at nowhere in the preceding movie and literally makes you go ...”Wait.. what now!”

The script could have done with passing through a few other people who may be aware of the source material but not enough to allow that to colour their view of the story.. they could then fill in these missing areas and create a story.. rather than a collection of errant scenes, and characters rather than meat puppets delivering lines to make the scenes look active. The film is unwieldy and top-heavy relying on visual over substance. It expositions when it should be quiet it is quiet when it should be expositioning. You could cut at least 45 minutes of the movie out of it and you would not even notice that stuff was missing.

Also.. the continual hat tipping to the 5th Element, really only needs to be done once... We know that you used the artist from Valerian to design the world of the 5th Element. and the continuous little tips just keep reminding you that out or the two, the 5th Element is the better movie, with it’s tight story line, snappy dialogue and effects that are used to inform advance the plot. Not just be there to look at (don’t get me wrong it was ground-breaking in the terms of effects at the time and still stands out as an amazing movie)

I find it amazing that you can create a movie where the main character could be removed from the movie and it would improve the movie. There is almost no reason for the main character to be there front and centre. They are written so flat they are at best a supporting character. The aliens are amazing.. the Pearls of Mul have a fascinating story which was covered in a perfunctory way as exposition but actually that could have been the story to concentrate on.. Following them trying to survive and get back some semblance of a society. Perhaps have Valerian and Laureline as background characters dropping into and out of the scenes??? Just having the film called “City of a Thousand Planets” would have been fine I think.

It does sound like I actively despise this movie. But actually I don’t I quite enjoyed it on a light entertainment level. I think it could do with a clean-up, and re-edit. Perhaps trim some of the lingering effects shots, streamline the dialogue and re-edit round the so-called relationship between the two main characters because that is a pointless side plot in this “adventure”. I am worried however that like Avatar, it won’t hold up to transfer to 2D format, that there is not enough story there to keep you interested without the spectacle that is 3D. It will be interesting to see if this movie gets anywhere.
