My artworks during 2023.

Until I find a template for a set of my drawings that I did in the course of a year, I will post like this, so it will be a long post and I apologize to everyone for that, but here's a little retrospective from last year. I also wish everyone a happy holiday!

Like every year, here I will make a retrospective of my drawings that I did during the previous year as well as my best drawings from last year. Unfortunately, unlike in 2022, I was not forced to post every month because of the jobs I was doing, and I was absent a lot until the end of the year. I still managed to somehow make a Mickey Mouse 100th anniversary jubilee as well as make my own new ideas as well as some gifts for my friends as well as some crossovers. Unbelievable, but I turned to Ducktales 2017 and drew them. However, I stuck to drawing related to Three Caballeros, Darkwing Duck, Duck comics, Duck Avenger, OG Ducktales, Quack Pack, classic shorts, some Looney Tunes stuff and more. Yes, I have changed my drawing style a bit as opposed to 2022 and yes, in addition to Donald Duck and Duckverse, I have also turned to Mickey Mouse and Mouseverse and his friends and I hope to do more in the future during the new year 2024. Also, today is Julian New Year, so once again I wish you a Happy New Year!

As for my main blog, I managed to get over 900 followers, while on this art blog of mine 75 and I hope that I will manage to get over 1000, i.e. over 100 and I hope that in addition to my beloved ducks, I will also turn to others to my favorite things from cartoons, comics, video games, literature, movies and more. All in all, thank you for your support and continue to support me in the future. Thank you all!

Selkie Lore

No one quite knows if selkies are merfolk, fae, or beastmen. Some classify them as a mixture of all three, scholars argue what clan they belong too. Whereas selkies just see themselves as selkies alone, not connected to the other clans. They are few in numbers though, some are more social, whereas others led solitary lives. 

Leopard seal selkies are the most solitary, and one of the largest of their clan. In their seal skins, the largest members reach upwards of 4 metres [12.6 feet] long and 500 kilograms [1,100 pounds]. While in human form, it is far more common for them to range between 190 cm to 205 cm tall. 

All selkies can morph between seal, human, and the in-between stage. Should someone pick up or touch their coat, they are bound to them until the person sets them free, a contract. For a selkie to willingly give someone their coat is a marriage proposal.

While in human form, selkies do keep features of their seal forms, such as their teeth, markings and speckles, and have large eyes and pupils. They also have extra webbing between their fingers and toes. Their hair being the same main colour as their pelt.

Ségdae Lore

Ségdae was raised by a crabeater selkie family after they were found on an ice sheet with no sign of their mother anywhere. Due to being raised by crabeater selkies, Ségdae is far more friendly and outgoing than other leopard seal selkies; they only met one other and she stayed away, swimming back to her mother.

They do feel a bit different and outcasted, as many other selkies, sea creatures, and mers often swim far away from them, afraid. This has led them to wear a cheerful persona around others, but in private they are much more quiet and introspective. They have a hard time making friends, and close relationships, and is only really close to their adoptive family. It doesn’t help that people often stare at them, as they are above the regular maximum height for a leopard seal selkie at 210 cm; making them stick out in a crowd.

But when they became an adult, they took all the things they were insecure about as a child and came to love them. Their height. All of their freckles. Even the scars that they got from getting caught in a net many years ago.

Career

They decided to become a teacher due to an art teacher they had during their teenage years that helped them through some difficult times. They also are very curious and encourage others to try something at least once.

Ségdae can be best described as… eccentric. The professor has a hobby of saying the outmost deepest, and life-altering tidbits of advice and knowledge and then proceeds to be a doofus and joke around.

During breaks, they can be seen in the teachers’ lounge chatting – or gossiping – with Trein and Crewel. They also have a habit on popping into classes when they have a free period, helping out with grading papers or starting an improv play in Trein's class to get the kids interested in that royal from the Queendom of Roses.

They cannot stand Crowley. Tries to avoid him whenever possible or make his life a living hell. They only refer to him as Dire, just to show that they have zero respect for him… They also put surströmming in his office and the entire wing of the school had to evacuate.

Unique Magic & Coat

Their Unique Magic is called Selkie Song, and it reveals their deepest desires; to both them and Ségdae. They can only use it if they’re wearing their coat though.

Not a part of their UM, but they also do have a selkie coat that they have on them on all times, or in a chest with several locks so that no one can steal it. It's the pelt of a leopard seal, fading from a creamy white on the belly and fading to a dark slate grey on top. It has lots of freckling and a few scars on it, corresponding with their own. Wears it under their regular clothes.

When they don’t think Crewel is looking, they do look at his coat; they think he looks very posh, a beautiful coat. Avoids touching his coat due to Selkie customs. They nearly had a stroke when they accidentally picked it up when it fell off his chair one time. Crewel just shrugged it off as a Ségdae thing.

Other Notes

Despite being very imposing, they are very kind. They often help out other sea life when in their seal form; penguins often still look terrified when this happens though.

Often blows raspberries, and makes their seal calls when excited. Also flaps their hands when they're happy and talking about their interests.

They go into their seal form when they feel overwhelmed, swimming in the depths away from the chaos on land.

Tends to say things very bluntly, and it has caused them to butt heads with others in the past.

Keeps a surfboard in their office, and would love to bring their class to the beach for some lessons.

Got the nickname Tony from Sam, and it soon caught on to Vargas and Crowley. Trein calls them Professor Tonyx, whereas Crewel calls them Ségdae. Their students usually call them Dae.

Their eyesight is meant for underwater, so they're nearsighted on land with some astigmatism. They have both glasses and prescription goggles for labs.

Unfortunately, like last year, I didn't have the exact template with my drawings this year either, so I'll post through this. Yes, I mostly drew related to Donald Duck and the Duckverse, but especially in November I also drew other franchises, mostly from Looney Tunes and Tiny Toons. Yes, this year I managed in all 12 months to draw at least one drawing in one month. Yes, there were ups and downs for me, but overall, the results were solid. Yes, although I mostly draw Quack Pack, I've certainly drawn related to Donald Duck comics, Darkwing Duck and the Three Caballeros. I hope to focus more on not only the Donald Duck franchise this year, but the others as well. I'm hoping to get over 100 followers on my side blog and hit 500 followers on this one. Craig McCracken - further research

His Career and Work

In 1993, Craig was recruited by Hanna-Barbera Cartoons (now Cartoon Network Studios) to work as an art director on the series 2 Stupid Dogs, but as his first job in the animation industry, he was never really happy with how that show worked.

While McCracken was working at Hanna-Barbera, studio president Fred Seibert started a brand new project: an animation incubator with 48 brand new cartoons that are each about seven minutes long. What a Cartoon!, as it was known, inspired McCracken to continue working on his Whoopass Girls! idea from his work at CalArts. He recalled that the network could not market a show with the word "ass" in it, so two of his friends came up with name ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ as a substitute for the original title.

As a backstory note how it all started, in June 1991, McCracken was in his first year in the character animation program of CalArts and drew three girls with large eyes, visually inspired by the paintings of Margaret Keane on a small sheet of orange construction paper as a birthday card design for his brother.

His new work with a refined plot, "The Powerpuff Girls in: Meat Fuzzy Lumkins", premiered on February 20, 1995, on Cartoon Network's World Premiere Toons, along with its follow-up, "Crime 101", which aired on January 28, 1996. The first short to be picked up by the network was Tartakovsky's Dexter's Laboratory, which McCracken contributed to in the early seasons.

The fourth cartoon to greenlit a full series was McCracken's Powerpuff Girls. It premiered as a short in 1995 and debuted on November 18, 1998 as full half-hour episodes that was aired until its final episode on March 25, 2005. The Powerpuff Girls aired on Cartoon Network for six seasons, three specials, and a feature film, with the final episode airing on March 25, 2005. A total of 78 episodes were aired in addition to two shorts, a Christmas special, the film, a tenth anniversary special, and a special episode using CGI technology. Various spin-off media include an anime, three CD soundtracks, a home video collection, comic books, a series of video games, a 2016 reboot series, and an upcoming second reboot, as well as various licensed merchandise.

The series has been nominated for six Emmy Awards, nine Annie Awards, and a Kids' Choice Award during its run.

In 2002, McCracken also directed The Powerpuff Girls Movie, a prequel to his series. Although the film received generally positive reviews, unfortunately it was a box office failure.

Leaving The Powerpuff Girls after four seasons, McCracken focused on his next project; Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. He created this series with his wife Lauren Faust and Mike Moon and it premiered on Cartoon Network with the 90-minute television special "House of Bloo's" on August 13, 2004. The show also won Emmy and Annie awards and ran for six seasons, all directed by McCracken, ending on May 3, 2009.

He became the executive producer of The Cartoonstitute; a brand-new Cartoon Network showcase project, in April 2008. He left Cartoon Network in 2009 after 17 years of employment when the network began to emphasize on live-action and reality shows. In August 2013, he created Wander Over Yonder for Disney Television Animation and Disney Channel. Following the cancellation of Wander Over Yonder, McCracken pitched Disney a new show based on his 2009 comic strip The Kid from Planet Earth. The concept was later dismissed by Disney, and in 2017 he finally departed the company. After presenting his idea to Netflix, Kid Cosmic was selected as the working title. On February 2, 2021, the show made its debut, and it aired till February 3, 2022.

It marks McCracken's return to the superhero genre after The Powerpuff Girls and the first of his original works to include a serialized style. He pitched Netflix with 10 proposals in August 2021, however due to Netflix Animation's huge layoffs, he eventually left in April 2022.

On July 18, 2022, it was revealed that McCracken will make two reboots at Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe of the Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

McCracken was also awarded the Winsor McCay Award in 2023 for his "unparalleled achievement and exceptional contributions to animation" at the Annie Awards ceremony.

Sonic the Oz-Hog Act 8/12: Journey's End!

Sonic Universe issue 16 AU Publication Date: 6th August 2010 Price: $6.50

(Alternate title: 'A Farewell to Khans!'.)

Sixteen. Six. Teen. Siiiiiiixteeeeen. A number by all rights like any other, yet harbors more than a few connotations in life. Songs written and movies made have abounded over the decades in dedication to this number. It can mark exciting new beginnings, a (at least theoretically) responsible coming of age, a formal debut ready to tackle the more "mature" world of driving cars and leaving school in favour of the local workforce. Or maybe not. The author of these posts can't remember their sixteenth birthday beyond being pretty sure it happened, it rained, and there was a new Transformers action figure involved.

But when it came to Aussies following their favourite hedgehog's monthly tri-coloured triumphs, sixteen marked a bitter end.

In comparison to the turmoil of 2010's political sphere, Sonic and his freedom fighting buddies' year-long battle against the Iron Dominion's wrath was a cakewalk. Having swept to power in November 2007 despite the best efforts of conservative media and racist fake pamphlets, the time had come for Kevin Rudd to resign. Labor's three year tenure of poll-topping high highs and scandalous low lows painted a divisive picture, and with the prospect of losing power on the back of a fatal home insulation program and increased taxes for mining non-renewables, Julia Gillard stepped up unopposed to succeed him on 24th June. Rudd agreed on 6th August to stay onboard for support, and within two weeks of this issue's publication, a federal election saw Gillard narrowly retain her mantle as Australia's first female Prime Minister.

Music lovers thrummed away to manufactured relationship angst of Eminem and Rihanna's collaboration Love the Way You Lie, which was halfway through its six week domination of the billboard charts. Christopher Nolan's brain-bender Inception had enjoyed its own three weeks leading the local box office, until Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg briefly blasted their way to the top in The Other Guys.

The glory days of analogue morning toon-tainment for kids were by this point faded memories. Having half an hour sliced off its slot beginning New Year's Day 2010, Toasted TV limped itself along offering viewers that day repeats of Huntik: Secrets & Seekers and Dinosaur King. The product of networks pushing for breakfast news programs and set top boxes becoming more prevalent (i.e. affordable) meant the future of children's television was well on its way to being all digital. Channel Seven's subsidiary 7TWO served up repeats of Avenger Penguins, Digimon Data Squad, Handy Manny and Power Rangers Jungle Fury. Not to be outclassed, Channel Nine's newly-minted 9GO! kicked off the day with new Out of Jimmy's Head before its own repeat cavalcade of Class of 3000, Chowder, Legion of Super Heroes, Ben 10, The Flintstones and The Jetsons.

Another far cry from the days of yore were fan reviews. Forums, groups and pages come and go. The regulars over at Sonic Stadium all but ignored the issue and instead focused on whether Mighty and Ray would get their own SegaSonic Arcade adaptation, while gushing over the impending Tails Adventure arc. Sonic HQ's once juggernaut now dustbowl Knothole Village had little to say beyond base pleasantries, as did PorpoiseMuffins' Saturday Morning Sonic message board.

For those hoping to dig deep into the comic proper, Ian Flynn's forum truly put the "King" in "BumbleKing". By that point in its life a thriving superpower, after 5 days and over 15 pages of speculation, residents of Archie Sonic's biggest watering hole considered it "without a doubt my favorite of the arc. It's mostly expostition with more or less no action but what exposition!" The good times rolled with "Good wrap-up to this arc in an arc. I enjoyed it. I liked Espio's backstory; thought it was handled well." and "I've said it before I'll say it again Ian gets Sonic's personality so right my favorite line has to be "'Careful'? So many foreign words today!" why cant SEGA write him like that.". Forum goers were excited to share their future speculations, notably the prospect of one character being the first in a series which, like Dimitri being the latest in a line of Enerjaks, began life as a fan theory shared on message boards during the late-90's.

Yet while fandom faces and places can change as time marches on, attitudes remain engrained. Even if they've never seen the character or read a comic, some people can (and will) criticize them, ranging from "not being accurate to other source material" or that incredibly tired buzzword of dismissing the series as "weird". When pressed to consider the extensive laundry list of Archie Sonic material going under the hammer of fickle fans, it's tough topping the decades of derision aimed at Mobius' own cybernetic simian, Monkey Khan.

The amalgamation of late writer/artist Frank Strom's admiration for Chinese literature hero Sun Wukong, Japanese actors in rubber monster suits, and 1970's Hong Kong martial art films, Khan found himself shackled among the swelling ranks of Geoffrey St. John, Nate Morgan and Mina Mongoose in the upper echelons of Archie Sonic's most reviled characters. Case in point, fans quickly booted up their modems as early as November 1997 to voice their displeasure online. Some remained optimistic, citing Khan "looks simply like a vessel for spouting chiche's and poor dialogue, but there's opportunity to make him more interesting (and more vital) to the story." Others took offence to the character's ancient roots, wondering if the coincidence "probably is, since this issue didn't seem very well thought out. If it was a reference, that would be the only excuse for the piece of Mass-Produced Crud".

As the years rolled on and Khan made a handful more cameos, this fan mentality never truly shook off. "I have come to NOT STAND Monkey Khan AND Frank Stroms writing and drawing skills…MK has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH SONIC THE HEDGEHOG AND IF THE EDITOR HAD ANY SENSE HE'D FIRE STROM. The guy has done NOTHING to show that he can even write a Sonic story." readers openly whined. "it really ticks me off that Frank Strom's version of the Monkey King was so poor… in fact, I bet he hasn't heard of MK in his life, but rather, Dragon Ball. smirk. Frank Strom is probably the worst Archie-Sonic writer I've ever seen, with the possible exception of 75% of Mike Gallagher's works.". They compared Khan to the worst type of wish-fulfilment self-insert, and Strom himself often written into fanfics as a target of obsessive mockery. Even the efforts of Ian Flynn to flesh out his character during 2009-10 (complete with hatred lampshade on the first page of issue 203) came across mixed, further fueled at a time when Archie Comics openly baited fans into a staggeringly pointless shipping war.

Hm. Seeing how Khan, Geoffrey, Mina and Nate were frequently criticized for stealing the spotlights of Sonic, Antoine, Sally and Rotor respectively, maybe there's an alternate universe where someone capitalized of this and united them to strike out in their own team. It would certainly make for quite the fanfic. But enough digressing.

There's a bittersweet irony here. Locals who loathed Monkey Khan's exploits and hoped to see the back of him once and for all were about to get their wish. A World Under Constant Vigil marked the last appearance Khan would make in a starring role, one which in a fantastical coincidence was published exactly on Frank Strom's 46th birthday. Further blurring the lines between a true case of "Sixteen Khandles" and the Monkey's Paw myth, Sonic Universe issue 16 would ultimately be the final comic released at Australian retail.

After 17 years of constantly easily accessible comics, time was up. Issue 211 and Universe 14 were the last to be sold at retail for $5.50, a price increase from $4.95 which began with issue 198. The move to fancy new glossy paper, an arguably remarked improvement which brought the comic's quality closer in line with the free Bionicle, HeroScape, The Batman and Teen Titans centerpiece of 2005-6 meant coughing up another dollar. Was it this move to $6.50 a copy that made the bean counters at Gordon and Gotch drop the title? Were they too frustrated by enduring the excessive length of Iron Queen's tenure? Was it the moonlit kiss and chest stroking between Sally and Khan in issue 212 that broke the camel's back? Guess fans will never know, for when the writer of these posts questioned said distributors at the time, they responded curtly that both Sonic titles "have now ceased and are no longer in production". So much for that.

As anyone who's kept up with these will know, the story of Archie Sonic in Australia was far from being all over. It's hard to keep a good high speed hero down, and one day he shall come back. Yes, he shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs, and prove to Sonic that he is not mistaken in his.

Yet it would be a long, pained fifteen months before Aussies saw the blue blur triumphantly return to newsagent shelves.

Having been raised to be a proper Victorian lady, Alice is polite, honest, intelligent, and articulate. Alice is generally very relaxed and carries a peaceful demeanor to the point where she tends to respond to others nonsense with grace and courtesy.

For the mirror allows Alice to travel to Wonderland, as it is no dream in this verse. And that's not all, it can also allow her to travel to other universes!
