notunprepared replied to your post “I am currently being PEER PRESSURED to add some vague lines about...”
I'm totally up for that. Most of the time when I go looking for fic I look for gen because I'm asexual as heck and there's so little! Friendship please!
UGH IT’D BE SO GOOD. I’m very much someone who believes friendships and family relationships (blood or otherwise) are JUST as important as romantic relationships. Plus if I want to flesh out canon details, like I’m doing with the aforementioned fic, it doesn’t need a relationship. But people like. Won’t read that. Outside the Animorphs fandom, which is the best fandom ever and doesn’t count, but even then ship fics still do better in terms of day by day attention vs legacy. Cav and I talk about how we’re similar writers with similar tastes and voices that tend to blend together, but their Ax/Marco post-war series is popular FAR beyond my gen post-war series. Haters.
I won’t actually run an event though. If there is one that exists already I would LOVE to be involved. Gen is awesome.

notunprepared replied to your post “you know that fic I accidentally deleted, damn, I can’t stop thinking...”
It's not in your trash folder? :(
unfortunately no. I deleted it from my phone. And it was the only copy. My bad
#notunprepared#reply#I'll have to follow this advice#that says you ''should'' rewrite your works#(obv not always and either way you do you)#because one time I did so it worked great#I just would have liked it to have version 1.0 as well#I remember there were a few lines that I liked#and the general mood of the fic as well#teasing and flirty and cute

(also lol I didn't change my name guess I'm a poser NHS I am a villain a cad a deceiver! who tricked all my doctors. you better call..... 110? 999? erm... the police, at any rate!)
dies of laughter aceadmiral replied to your post “aceadmiral replied to your post “[[MOI did some research on UK...”
Um. Isn't the point of this "trial period" to make sure you really want to do it???? So then *why* are you encouraged to do a NAME CHANGE at the very beginning before you "know" whether or not you're "really" comfortable???
well, no, as far as I can tell you’re supposed to have done your trial period before you even get to the clinic, you’re supposed to have definitely absolutely lived for at least a year in your Gender Role, the whole nine yards with name change and all, which is totally not made more problematic by having absolutely zero medical support, and is totally not going to affect your mental health as they note it on your referral form... aceadmiral replied to your post “aceadmiral replied to your post “[[MOI did some research on UK...”
I don't think you really need an elaborate story. Like @ahr42p said, you can just say you didn't like your old name. People are generally less interested than one might imagine, so I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you're nonchalant about it, they'll reflect it back at you
hm, that’s very fair! I shall consider it more. thank you. heartmarierose replied to your post “One of the most informative things when trying to ~recover~ or...”
Is this okay to reblog because holy smokes if this isn't me
sure! notunprepared replied to your post “[[MOR]I did some research on UK gender stuff. So far it looks like,...”
How much proof do they need that you've been living in the gender role? Could you just lie? With the weight thing maybe you could use your anorexia diagnosis, or get a psych letter to say it'd be too dangerous? Geez there's a lot of hoops to jump through though bloody hell
they ask for ‘some documentation to support how long you’ve been living in your gender role, such as payslips, work reference or name change documents [...] these do have to be official documents’. I don’t know whether there’s ever leeway on this - as you say, like, what if people do lie? what if your name is androgynous and you keep it? - so I shall investigate that more Later. also, and I’m mostly complaining about this because I hate everything about that time period and also doctors, guess who never got an anorexia dx, or even any kind of eating disorder dx. (this is partly because my BMI was never low enough, because BMI is shit, but largely because my mother insisted that I was in fact eating too much, even when actively restricting like hell. and ofc doctors listen to your mother instead of you.) anyway. this is a good tactic to keep in mind, thank you! I appreciate it! I’m just never not mad about that. @_@ ahr42p replied to your post “aceadmiral replied to your post “[[MOI did some research on UK...”
"I've always wanted to change my name, I didn't like it at alll, it sounds like cough medicine, and kids made fun of me for it, so it was just a really personal decision but I'm happy I finally got the courage to go through with it"
I appreciate that AHR always comes through with the social stories, but I want you all to know that I had not heard of Ricola and had to get her to explain this to me. aceadmiral replied to your post “epochryphal replied to your post “[[MOI did some research on UK...”

Are there any competitions on this weekend? Or is there nothing until the gpf?
Actually, no! There are no competitions this weekend. Next week, before the Final, there is the Santa Claus Cup, and the Golden Spin of Zagreb is at about the same time, but it seems as if this is a competition-free weekend!

notunprepared replied to your post “Wait, why do people have trans headcanons about Tobias? I love reading...”
I'm so down for queer animorphs. And I love your discussion of it here. There's a FANTASTIC fic where all the animorphs are trans, except Tobias who's intersex. Cassie and Marco are nonbinary, and Jake is a trans boy and Rachel is a trans girl. http://archiveofourown.org/works/1962147 o
I think I’ve read this fic? It’s good. For those of you who are interested in more queer Animorphs!
#notunprepared#replies#animorphs#queer animorphs#...listen guys for the record i don't tend to have elaborate sexuality/gender headcanons#and i've pretty much exhausted my commentary on the animorphs and queer stuff#so like...keep that in mind if you have a burning desire to ask further questions#you can go ahead and ask but they'll need to be specific enough to prompt a specific answer#there's only so much vague stuff i can come up with

notunprepared replied to your post: What my catatonic episodes feel like
It kind of seems like what my panic attacks feel like? Except without the physical symptoms (drenched with sweat etc) but how it feels like, the exhaustion afterwards, perception of time being distorted and lack of language and unresponsive limbs. But worse, and your catatonic episodes can last hours. That’s tough. You’re hard as nails for going through this shit regularly. Is there a similar root to panic and catatonia maybe? (Rhetorical question, I doubt anyone probably knows)
I mean, I’ve had panic attacks and something I can tell you is they feel nothing alike. When I’m catatonic, I’m not anxious or afraid. At least, not more than usual. Sometimes a sense of urgency is part of the cause (like needing to process a lot of information quickly for some valid reason), so sometimes anxiety is happening at the same time, but it’s not a requirement!

Will you get Saturn?
I’d really like to get them all, yeah. It’s less of an “OMG WHATEVER THE COST” thing for me like for the Inners, but if finances allow, for sure.

notunprepared replied to your post: It’s not that anyone asked, but I’ll say it anyway...
I always found the cultural stuff in that episode really interesting. Not one of their brightest writing moments though. I didn’t like her either.
it’s been a really long time since I watched it, so I can’t really say anything. Though I’m 90% sure they used 100 days mainly to set up Shades of Grey

notunprepared replied to your post “The problem with brainstuff is that - I can feel myself being paranoid...”
So that helps me, you might be able to adapt it to help you?
notunprepared replied to your post “The problem with brainstuff is that - I can feel myself being paranoid...”
It's not the same thing but when I have depression thoughts that I'm a bad person etc, I do like a pro/con list in my head. What's the evidence that that thought is correct? Evidence that it's wrong? And the evidence for 'wrong' normally outweighs. Because the evidence for is shit like "I said a mean thing in anger that time" which is something that Good fictional characters do, and it doesn't make them Bad, so therefore it's not evidence that I'm Bad either.
I like that! Thank you. (Not great for Social, because How Do People Even, but very useful for the like, Am A Bad Person thing. :) )

I watched 4 episodes or something and tbh it’s not as great as the hype says it is. I think Stargate is better (even with the military propagandy stuff)
I’ve only seen a few scattered episodes of stargate, but I liked what I saw. But hooo boy the military wank. I’ve read a number of Buffy/Stargate crossovers and good lord do the writers for those fandoms love the military.

Australian social services are, in my experience, really good about this sort of thing, unless there’s a reason your details have to match up with your passport or whatever.
When I got my SA teaching registration, I filled in Mx on my forms, and the well-meaning lady at the desk who didn’t know any better said my “Ms” was unclear and had me refill it. I was nervous and timid and just went along with it. A few days later, I had to come in to drop off some proof-or-qualification document, and the woman found me, apologised profusely over the misconception, and changed the paperwork mack to Mx then and there right in front of me. (I’m guessing someone in the office filled her in.) I’ve always been a not-advertising kind of person, so people don’t usually learn my gender unless they ask, and when I was still doing my degree and too timid to insist on NB pronouns I used to go by male ones if anyone did ask. I look unambiguously female, so I don’t get asked that often. In my teaching degree, one of my teachers knew I was trans from an incidental conversation, but I decided not to mention this on my teaching practicums (one of which was to a VERY religious Catholic school) because it obviously wasn’t worth it for a 5-week job; however, halfway through my first prac, I got a call from this teacher (who was my supervising teacher) explaining somewhat apologetically that she may have accidentally outed me to the staff at the school, unaware that I was pretending to be female, and explaining that if the principal wanted to take me out for an apology beer, that was why. The staff at the school were all very nice to me, didn’t do any big-deal apology confrontations, didn’t mention it at all; they merely changed their pronouns when students weren’t around and asked if they should continue to submit my reports under my (feminine) official name or instead use my (masculine) nickname.
I can’t speak for randos on the street, but when talking to people representing institutions, I’ve generally encountered very reasonable people who are as willing to respect my identity as they are for binary cis people. Which is a positive sign for our future, I think.

A question for intersex, nonbinary and trans people...
*cough* ...er, about genitals.
Is there a name for external genitals that are not clearly clitoris/vulva or penis/testicles?
“male” --> penis, testicles
“female” --> clitoris, vulva
none of the above --> ???
I guess I’m trying to find a frame of reference for processing some stuff, and having language helps me a lot!
I’m aware of some words that are portmanteaux that combine words like dick and clit. But it seems to me that they might be different enough from either of the binary options that it would make sense for there to be a unique, standalone word/term.
Is anyone aware of anything like that?
~
tiranasgoldfish replied:
"junk" or "bits" is all i know. like, thats my junk or those are my bits.
Those can be used for penises and clitorises too though, and they’re kinda euphemistic too. I’m hoping for something more specific in those ways!
~
notunprepared replied:
Phallus for the clit/penis?
Phallus has very penisy connotations though, doesn’t it? :S
~
shaedofblue replied:
Dr Cary Gabrielle Costello is an intersex activist who uses the term phalloclitoris to refer to the organ regardless of how it develops. That is probably a relatively useful more formal sounding term, though might lead people to mistakenly believe one is talking solely about parts that would be considered intermediate. http://intersexroadshow.blogspot.ca/2011/01/phalloclitoris-anatomy-and-ideology.html
That’s pretty cool. :) I’m looking for a term that refers specifically to genitals that are not clearly male or female, though. But I’m gonna take a look at that blog post!

How you going with your mass effect replay? Since you recommended it to everyone last year I think I've played 2 and 3 about 5 times and the first twice - thank you so much for recommending it! I fell massively in love with Garrus and Anderson and EDI and the rest of the crew.
Five months later, and I'm probably exactly where I was five months ago.
I'm somewhere in my replay of the second game. I can't remember specifically where, but I think somewhere in the long gooey centre doing loyalty quests and building up the Normandy and stuff. I've only played ME3 one time, and that was shortly after it came out. I haven't played any ME3 DLC (MUCH TO THE AGGRAVATION OF SOME FRIENDS), nor have I played the modified/extended ending. So that's going to be a whole great experience that I'm really looking forward to.
YOU'RE VERY WELCOME. I love the characters in Mass Effect so much. EVEN THE ROMANCE. You guys know I don't ship much as a general rule, but Shepard and her blue nerd wife forever.
#getting to relive the shadow broker dlc in me2 will be such a treat#jet wolf also talks about mass effect#notunprepared#ask a jet wolf#ASKSHARKNADO week

notunprepared replied to your post:Okay, but is ‘thinking more clearly and talking...
Sounds like less brain fog to me. I dunno when thinking more clearly could ever be considered a bad thing.
I should clarify that I was about half tongue-in-cheek about the whole policy of ‘well we really don’t want to give you effective medications that don’t have bad side effects, because then you might... continue taking them indefinitely for your chronic illness because they help you feel better, and that is ADDICTION and makes you a BAD PERSON’
(The other half is the worry inculcated thusly that surely all these authoritative people who went to school for this must be right, and feeling better must mean you are a horrible person who is now addicted to things, even though you know full well that addiction does not make people horrible and also does not really apply here.)
#notunprepared#what is consistent pronoun use?#physical health stuff#I do appreciate your input though!
