kakashi: rin… obito… he loved you… you were his only one… he gave his life to protect you. rin: then… kakashi! you should know how i feel about you… kakashi brought up confessing, rin was just staying on topic. btw obito “gave his life” to protect kakashi, not rin. just a reminder

(narration) the third great ninja war. with the sacrifice of many nameless shinobi, the protracted war finally came to a close. it its wake, it also left legends… the stories of great heroes, to be told and retold for generations to come. the battle of kannabi bridge. that day, two heroes were born in konohagakure, each with his own sharingan. one found his name engraved on the memorial stone… the other came to be known as kakashi of the sharingan. in time, the tales of his bravery spanned all borders, and beyond.

CINEMA SINS! obito wears goggles (on his forehead) after he awakens the sharingan. when they go to the cave where rin is held he doesn’t have them on. are they in kakashi’s bum bag?

i read a fic that changed my brain chemistry and now i can't stop thinking about a universe where amy works for eggman... and metamy ensues. naturally. you know the drill by now. also roboticized sonic theory because it makes it more deliciously potent.

DESERT ROSE: A prickly young girl with terrifying strength and a love for the finer things in life, like frilly dresses and deadly high-powered machinery. She thinks maintenance is a romantic couples activity. Not only is the "desert rose" highly poisonous, it can't really be considered a rose, can it…? However, its resilience means it could bloom even in a rusty scrapyard...

notes for the au under cut!

rose believes metal sonic when he says he is the original. he hasn't told her what happened. that he failed to save her. that he failed to save everyone. that there was a time when he was organic like she is. he just said "the other sonic is the copy" and she said "okay! let's kill him :)"

metal sonic is constantly torn between guilt and adoration at who rose has grown into. she became so much stronger. strong enough to protect herself - strong enough, even, to protect him (if he ever let her, that is. he might not be a hero any more but it's burned into his core forever that > KEEP AMY ROSE SAFE is a KEY goal.) on the other hand... he feels like he remembers someone different. a girl who loved animals and flowers and sunshine. who would give her life to protect everything she's now destroying. but his memories are so fuzzy...

i'm not so sure that amy would be big on programming and constructing machines herself, but she's always eager to "test" them... and it goes without saying she is frankly terrifying when she wants to be and is a beast on the battlefield

i have the feeling that metal sonic is a bit more... enthusiastic? i guess? about his mission in this universe. it's not "ME VS. EVERYONE WHO COULD HAVE LOVED ME HAD I NOT FAILED" its "ROSE AND I VS. THEM" don't get me wrong he's furious and undead and vengeful and jealous and still insane. but. i think rose helps jog the vaguest of memories of who he used to be? unfortunately the person he used to be is a hero so i also imagine he's ever so slightly more conflicted in this universe... ("the old amy wouldn't have liked this, would the old me feel the same?")

codependence is my favorite flavor so i imagine metal really, really, REALLY appreciates having rose around. someone who is kind to him. someone who believes that he used to be more than this, and treats him like maybe he isn't worth less after all... i imagine if sonic ever tried recruiting amy, metal would go BALLISTIC. "YOU ALREADY HAVE EVERYTHING ELSE. YOU CAN'T HAVE HER TOO." she's mine -> she's my (partner) she's my (memory) she's my (friend) she's my (tether) she's my (hope) she's my (rose)

metal sonic is. (gestures) metal. and he lives in a metal box on a metal ship surrounded by metal debris. but down the hall there is a single remaining rose. and in this state she is perfectly preserved. nothing can hurt her. eggman can't hurt her if she's on his payroll, huh...?

i can't put it into words properly (and ive tried) but the idea of "killer metal robot (whose objective is to destroy natural life) falls in love with a gentle girl named rose" makes me start frothing at the mouth. just shut up. why don't you hold his hand too. and he can't FEEL it like he should . and it hurts. and it's infuriating. but he Can tell that her pulse is higher than average and the temperature of her cheeks are strangely high. and he supposes that can comfort him for now.

i feel a little "if i had to choose between the world and sonic i would choose sonic" vibe.

this took me so incredibly long so if it flops im dropping out of college.

i wanna update these designs later, these are just the beginning concepts for the au :)

(or reversely, considering the 'admiration' he could view this tunnel visioning as... just "visioning". or, being like a genius visionary. Which, once again directed back into angbang. lol.)

I do like the idea the Mairon know the music better and is wiser than Melkor very much ;)).

Side note I'm not 100% set but it also seems they should be both very high on aspd chart for the sheer lack of emphathy. Not surprisingly, but ngl despising elves/men for being weak is kind of a nail in the coffin. Also "always" to "break will and subordinate them" is quite a strong statement.

Mairon does sincerely think Valar/istari are colonizer / imperialists per p397. And he thinks Gandalf acted differently because of weaker intelligence and lack of skills. basically. again, using power as the sole criterion.

Melkor is the only being Mairon ever admired / admitted to be superior other than himself. per p398.

Needless to say - it is wholly possible he does all that in Numenor for himself ofc.

And as per real life relationships - the talk about "priority". and Melkor's priority is clearly himself/Arda. And that has implications too. or like, just - baseline understanding.

p400 Mairon relied a lot on the melkor-elements in physical matters for his 'magic' practices.

I stopped here. again just kind of interesting that tolkien has this lengthy comparison of the two but has never once spectated about their personal relationship and implications. not at all.

Adding a side note on aspd: take it as a reference point for understanding their psychology but they should never be confined in / dictated by that little box of definitions.

As for Shuro/Toshiro... lemme see if I can put this coherently. The long and short of it is, this is Ryoko Kui doing the thing she does in which she uses the dungeon as a neutral background in which characters with different ideas can clash and come to terms with each other. We're not supposed to side with Toshiro, but we are not supposed to side with Laios, really, mostly because there is no "right" and "wrong" here.

A character who is heavily coded as autistic and comes from a northern europe coded culture (low-context - information is supposed to be conveyed in the most straightforward and clear way possible, even when said way is considered rude) meets another character who is extremely shy and comes from a japan coded culture (high context - info is supposed to be inferred by a mix of behaviour and conversational allusion, maintaining peaceful interpersonal relationships takes precedent over efficiency).

Neither of them are inherently wrong in the way they approach the other. Yes, Toshiro shouldve said something, but he doesn't know how. He was not taught how to handle someone like Laios. Conversely, Laios was not taught how to read between the lines and understand what a person is trying to convey if they are not speaking directly.

Since Laios is the main protagonist and we see most of the story from his POV, and also since most people on this website are American (low context culture), its easy for people to assume we are supposed to side with him. But I don't think that's the author's intention at all. Remember - Kui is Japanese writing for a primarily Japanese audience. From THEIR POV Toshiro's behaviour is perfectly understandable. It's also worth noting that there is a lot of extra material that gives further context to the Toshiro/Laios relationship.

One of the main points, for example, is how Laios gets Toshiro's name wrong. When they first met, Toshiro is immediately an object of curiosity to Laios BECAUSE he is a foreigner from a faraway land. Laios immediately invites himself to become his friend and starts asking question after question. When he finally remembers he's supposed to ask for Toshiro's name, he misunderstands it as Shuro, and Toshiro is too shy to correct him. "Renaming" the foreign side character for the benefit of the Western main character is an extremely loaded symbolic choice from Robinson Crusoe's Friday onward. I am not aware of the particular history of this trope in Japanese literature, but other elements of Toshiro's story suggest that renaming in his culture is something that is often done to slaves. Ryoko Kui is generally very deliberate about details like these. I highly doubt this is a random choice.

Of course Laios does not do it on purpose and Toshiro understands this and decides to let it slide, but its still something hurtful that Laios does to another person without even realising that hes doing it. This is a type of mistake he does often and he will do again across the story.

Again. Not saying Toshiro is perfectly right either, but there is a reason why they finish the meeting on relatively decent terms - because they BOTH recognise how they went wrong.

Toshiro realises that he needs to be more direct and determined about what he wants, but this is a reality check for Laios as well. He has been able to coast by so far in the dungeon without giving much thought to other people's wants and needs, thanks to the help of friends who care for him and are willing to follow him, but the story is changing pace and scale. Soon he might have to make some difficult decisions that involve the life and death of others. He needs to learn to listen.

This is why the Toshiro confrontation happens in the same span where we see Chimera!Falin going on a rampage, and Kabru trying to establish a friendship with Laios to assess what kind of person he is. Several narrative threads are coming to a head - the conflict with Toshiro is the tangible result of the tensions we saw around Laios' uncaring attitude from the beginning.

Something something dry firing a bow (pulling back the string and loosing without an arrow nocked) is bad for its structural integrity (as the energy that would go into propelling an arrow instead goes into the bow itself.) Link does this when out of arrows in botw/totk. Notably though, in botw/totk, dry firing doesn't cause damage to the bow, whereas irl it's something that absolutely would.

Maybe there's something here for fics? I feel like Wild would know better though 'xD but dry firing is something that could result in a bow exploding in your hands like what's seen in botw/totk when they break.

being personally environmentally conscious and aware of consumerist/industrial propaganda is absolutely a part of trying to help reduce the USA’s impact on pollution and global warming but i think people fail to remember that it only works if massive amounts of people including yourself also doing everything fucking possible to stop active billionaire polluters from doing that and refusing to stand down until national policy changes, and then also continuing to not stand down even after that. at risk of sounding like a “i believe in anarchism because it sounds cool and badass” tumblr user, i WOULD like to say i think the only solution at this point is blowing up a pipeline. also im not an anarchist
