Seems like Cupid came a bit fashionably late… but for good reason! It’s a valentine’s emergency! He needs your help to spread the love!!!

So, how can you help? With a color palette challenge of course…

But I do hope this can be fun for u, too: So, for my bouquet, I would love some peonies and daisies with the prompt "This is the best uniform a good lawyer could ask for" and HEAR ME OOUT: gn!reader is an artist that has been feeling down for a few months - mental health stuff, you can do whatever here - and stopped drawing, painting, doing pretty much anything for a while. so to get back in track they try out a new form of art - sewing, embroidery, and pretty much anything fashion related. What if they start by... Maybe embroidering small flowers and hearts inside the sleeves of Matt's suits or maybe a little sun in a hidden corner of his tie? Until they turn into more elaborate designs such as flowers with different sizes and shapes (Matt obviously being able to feel the patterns made with thread and needle and discern them) and he just realizes happily his partner is back to making art again... I know this is a VERY specific ask and I'm so sorry 😭 you don't have to write it if you don't want to 😭 but it would make me really happy too bc... It's sort of a self insert there to be honest... AHHH this was such an amazing idea to write! Thank you so much for your request, Sun! This ask was so incredibly detailed I was scared of doing it wrong, so it took me a few days to finish. But don't ever apologize for telling me exactly what you want because getting this request was honestly a joy. I know that feeling of not being able to, in my case write because of my mental health, sometimes for months on end, so this was personal. It makes me all giddy that you trusted me to bring this idea to life. In this house, we support self-indulgence! I tried my best to stay true to your request, so I hope you enjoy! It turned from a Drabble into a whole-ass One Shot, but honestly, you deserve it. You haven’t been yourself lately. Depression. Anxiety over being depressed. Work. It’s a toxic cocktail that poisons you from the inside out. When it happens, you retreat into your shell like a scared turtle to somehow survive the million thoughts rushing through your mind. 

Matt doesn’t need you to say the words to know. What hurts him most is sensing the light leave your body whenever the demons take over; they turn every brightly colored aspect of your character and paint them dark. 

The art you usually burn for lies discarded in a box in the closet. Brushes, pencils, empty canvases, and even the expensive collection of oil paint he got you for your birthday remain untouched. 

Matt is aware of how guilty you feel when you can’t create, but every time he asks you, “You want to do some pottery together?” Or anything else that would tickle the light out of you, you just smile and say, “I’m sorry, I’m busy. Maybe tomorrow.” But tomorrow is always the same. 

He knows you’re not fine. Your inspiration has died, and he doesn’t know what to do. He can hold you as you cry. He can try and put out those fires of doubt that consume every fiber of your being, and he can love you, but he doesn’t know how to bring the art back into your life. 

One morning though, when Matt adjusts his tie back at the office, he notices something different. He traces his fingers over the intricate design on the inside of the fabric. At first, he can’t make sense of it. It feels odd, almost, an amalgamation of thread in the shape of a sun. He can’t remember it being there when he first bought it, but he doesn’t question it further—until the strange sensation finds him again on the inside of his suit jacket a few days later. A flower, he’s sure of it. Most of his suits are as old as his law degree, so he’s sure it wasn’t there before. 

To study the sudden appearance of these designs further than the one thought in his mind telling him exactly what he wants them to be, he decides to pull Foggy into his office one day and ask him, “Can you look at something for me?”

His friend raises his eyebrows. “You know I don’t mind helping you, buddy,” he starts, “but I’m not a doctor.”

Matt sighs. “That’s not–” He opens his suit jacket to demonstrate. The thread is now carefully placed right where his left chest pocket lies, in the shape of what he assumes to be a bouquet of lavender, poppies, and daisies. “Here,” he points to it, “See that?” 

Foggy gasps, and he bends down a little to observe the design. “Oh, wow! That’s awesome. Where’d you get that?” 

Still not sure if his senses are betraying him, he runs his finger over it again. “That’s the thing. I don’t know.”

“What do you mean, you don’t know?”

“I don’t know how it got there. It wasn’t like that when I bought it.”

“Well, they’re flowers,” Foggy states. “Embroidered flowers. Poppies, lavender… and I think those are daisies.”

“Embroidered?” Matt asks.

“Yeah. If you ever find out who did this, tell them to send me the pattern. It’s amaze-balls. Marci would love it.” 

Huh. Embroidery. It doesn’t take him long to put two and two together, and his lips curl into a smile. A broad one, not a smirk. It’s like the sky has opened up and the sun is shining down on Hell’s Kitchen again. On him. On you. And the weight on his shoulders seems to fall off almost instantly.

When he comes home later that evening to find the air smelling of his favorite Indian takeout, he drops his bag by the door and makes his way toward the sound of your heartbeat. It’s getting steadier, he notices it. Your breaths weigh less heavily in the air. The one thing he wanted to be true seems to have actually become true: you’re creating again. 

“Hi,” you greet him with a smile, albeit a little exhausted.

“Hi,” he smiles back, not wasting a second to wrap his arms around your frame and press a chaste kiss to your head. “I missed you.”

“Missed you too. How was work?”

“Lots of paperwork. How was your day?” 

“Same,” you say, “but I picked up dinner on the way home.”

He hums. “I can smell that. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

You reach for the cutlery to set the table, but Matt catches your wrist mid-action. “Actually, I have something to ask you,” he says.

You swallow. Your pulse starts to race. You’ve been waiting for this moment, he can tell, trying to figure out how long you can get away with this, and once again the sun comes out. 

“Someone’s been tampering with my suits.” He reveals the embroidery on the inside of his suit jacket as if it were news to both of you. “They’re flowers, I asked Foggy, and somehow every item of clothing I own suddenly has one. You have any idea who could’ve done this?”

Blood rushes to your cheeks. “I am so sorry,” you ramble. “I got this new embroidery set, and I got really into it, so I wanted to try out how they’d look on different fabric, and… well, your tie was kinda just there, and then I moved on to your jackets because why not? You know, and–”

“Baby,” Matt laughs, cutting you off with his hands on your shoulders, “Baby, breathe! It’s okay. I’m not mad.” 

You shut your mouth. “Oh.”

“I just… you haven’t touched your arts and crafts in, what, weeks? Months?”

“I felt like trying something new.”

“And you have no idea how happy that makes me,” he says. “These flowers… They feel amazing. Beautiful.”

“They’re a bit crooked,” you try to argue.

He shushes you, his forehead now resting against yours. “You’re making art again. That’s a big deal. And crooked or not, they’re beautiful to me.”

You melt against him. How can you not when the thing you were most insecure about turned out to be a good thing?

“I missed you,” his voice is barely above a whisper, “and I am so proud of you.”

You take his hands off your shoulders and into your own. “Thank you.”

“I mean it, sweetheart.” He kisses your forehead, your eyes, your nose, and then finally, he reaches your lips. The kiss is soft, chaste, but it conveys those three little words he doesn’t even have to utter anymore. 

I love you. 

“You really don’t mind?” you ask then, uncertainty still gnawing away at you. 

“Mind?” he says, almost offended you would ever think that, and he places your hands on his jacket. “This is the best uniform a good lawyer could ask for.”

From that day on, Matt flaunts every little (or big) piece of embroidery on his clothing. Even long after you have crawled your way out of that slump, he keeps flaunting the fact his partner is such a talented artist in everything they do, and when you forward the pattern to Marci, Foggy soon enough joins in on the trend.

Im gonna be up front with you guys, im getting really annoyed at people saying that Amy Rose has gone through character development and that's why her characterisation is different and why she's very mellowed out, has no anger issues and her love of Sonic is virtually gone.

Is it, quite literally, insufferable and downright damaging in my eyes.

(Also btw i am gonna rant and be very rambley, I saw a fucking awful post on Reddit about Amy and I'm in a bad mood while writing this.)

Now, I'm gonna say this because I don't wanna make anyone upset, if you genuinely like Amy's new characterization then that's perfectly fine. THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK ON YOU!!!!! THIS IS JUST ME CRITICISING WRITING FROM A SUBJECTIVE POINT OF VIEW!! OKAY?!?!? WE GOOD?!?! Anyways!

A character arc or character development is something that happens IN a story. It is something that DOESN'T happen OUTSIDE of a story.

HOWEVER!!!! If a character does go through change outside of a story and comes back then it's up to the writers to properly explain WHY a character has changed.

The issue with Amy is that they DON'T EXPLAIN WHY SHES CHANGED SO MUCH BETWEEN LOST WORLD, FORCES AND FRONTIERS!!!! And no, a fucking character profile on a website doesn't count too. That's a cop out and you know it. And an Eggman memo that is completely optional is not enough either, Sonic Frontiers had MULTIPLE HOURS FOCUSED ON AMY AND THEY SPENT NO TIME EXPLAINING IT!

You cannot have a character act a certain way and then change it willy nilly without properly explaining why. It's like if let's say Callie in Splatoon 4 suddenly had Marie's personality and they didn't elaborate on it at all. And some random sunken scroll said "Callie has grown up quite a lot."

A lot of the explanations that I've seen online border down to headcanons not supported enough in the universe and like, here's the thing, you can have your own headcanons and stuff, its fine to have them of course, but to basically force them down and get upset at others for criticising Amy's modern characterisation is just unhealthy behaviour man. It's truly unhealthy.

And i think what's really made me fucking mad is that they are taking this modern version of Amy and retroactively applying to old stories like Generations. And that shit boils my blood, why rewrite history? Why try to hide what the character was like? IF YOU'RE TRYING TO SHOW THAT AMY HAS GONE THROUGH CHARACTER CHANGE THEN WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU REWRITE A PREVIOUS STORY?!?!?!?!?!?! WHY?!?!?!?! THAT'S IDIOTIC ON SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY LEVELS!!!!!

WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE AMY'S LOVE AND ADMIRATION FOR SONIC HIDDEN AND LIKE A HIDDEN CRUSH?!?!?! WHY IS AMY LIKE THIS NOW?!?!?! EXPLAIN!

"They are just trying to give her depth!! Instead of just making her an obsessed abusive stalker!" What depth? Explain to me what depth does Amy have? What hopes and wishes and fears does Amy have in Frontiers? What's her hobbies? Her interests? Her wants? Her needs? She wants to do what exactly? Share love with the world? How? Give flowers? Help the homeless? Like... WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!?!?!?!

At least with Sonic he's a flat character, he's allowed to have no strong goals or change because the whole point of Sonic is that he is the spark to change OTHERS! Shara, Merlina, the list goes on, he is the one who inspires change, he can get away with not changing. But Amy? If you said that they changed then WHY DID THEY CHANGE?!!? WHY DID AMY CHANGE THEN?! GO ON! EXPLAIN IT TO ME!!

I fucking hate the notion that Amy was this absolute monster who wanted to assault Sonic and force him into marriage. Have you fucking replayed Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 recently? Have you played through the games with the original Japanese dialogue? Or are you letting fan animations from 2009 cloud your judgement? Amy has a crush on Sonic, she's inspired by him, it's a fangirl sort of love towards him. Hell she says that Sonic and her are tied together by fate in a non romantic fashion in CD and Heroes.

Amy follows Sonic because not only does she have a simple childish crush for Sonic, but also because she thinks they are tied somehow by fate, Sonic inspires Amy, Amy loves Sonic on various levels. She wants to impress him and show just how capable she is.

Amy in Adventure 1 just wants excitement and thrill, she goes with Sonic in her story because she wants to protect a bird, not because she's lusting after him like some believe was the case. She was just really damn bored and saw an opportunity for adventure.

Amy in Adventure 2 tags along because again, she likes thrill and adventure, she wants excitement and Sonic is always in dangerous stuff, so she tags along.

Plus AMY'S MOST ICONIC MOMENTS IN THOSE TWO GAMES ARE HER BEING A VITAL PART IN INSPIRING CHANGE IN OTHERS!

JUST LIKE HER HERO SONIC!!!! IT GOES FULL CIRCLE FROM SONIC CD TO ADVENTURE!!!!!!

I really do want y'all to rewatch these cutscenes with retranslation mods, trust me, they are more emotional than you realize and it proves that Amy in the 2000s was more than you think she was. She was never an abusive or malicious person towards anyone. She never tried to force Sonic into anything fucked up and had a playful back and forth with him, especially in the Japanese versions where all mentions of marriage and shit is gone.

Unlike in Frontiers, where their banter was non-existent, and the most interesting it got is when Amy snapped at Sonic for not helping the Koco.

And if you fucking bring up the god damn "Sonic, this time there's no way out of marrying me!" line dude, listen, imma need you to shut the fuck up.

First, the line from the original Japanese release is less forceful sounding and more playful.

Second, if you genuinely count this as abuse or sexual assault then you need to get the fuck out. I've actually seen people say that Amy assaults Sonic and does all this bad shit to him. Buddy, my brother in Christ.

THEY ARE CARTOON CHARACTERS DESIGNED FOR ALL AUDIENCES! THEY ARE NOT MEANT TO REFLECT HOW ACTUAL PEOPLE ACT AND BEHAVE! THEY HAVE EXAGGERATED PERSONALITIES AND TRAITS! IT IS MEANT TO BE A FUNNY THING FOR KIDS TO GO "ewww" AT! DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TONE WORKS?!?!?! WHY ARE YOU TAKING THE WORDS OF A TEEN PINK HEDGEHOG SO SERIOUSLY?! SONIC HEROES TONE IS MEANT TO BE VERY LIGHTHEARTED!

Why the fuck would you look at Amy trying to beat up Sonic in Sonic Riders after he risked her life AS ACTUAL ASSUALT AND GO "omg Amy is so mean and abusive! They need to change her character!!" SHE ALMOST FUCKING DIED!!! SHE WOULD BE MAD AT SONIC AND WANNA HURT HIM OUT OF ANGER!!! HELLO?!?!

Name me a cool character moment that Amy had in Frontiers. Go on, do it. Because i can't think of any. Aside from her talking shit towards Sage.

Look, if you found Amy annoying in the older games, i get it, but i swear to god your mind will change immediately if you play through the older titles with retranslated dialogue. The old English translation for these games were hot garbage and created a huge amount of misconceptions about how the characters actually act. It's better nowadays thankfully but there's still issues like Frontiers having drastically different dialogue and Amy apparently maintaining the same old dialogue she had in Generations for the remaster. So the new dialogue made by Ian Flynn was not applied to the Japanese version, APPARENTLY! I'M NOT SURE ON THAT! I NEED SOMEONE TO DOUBLE CHECK THAT FOR ME!

And speaking of Ian Flynn, i don't know if it's his fault or not for Amy's new characterization. I think Amy changed due to Sega and Sonic Team receiving poor faithed criticism that "Amy is too annoying! She's so obsessive and angry!" and so now all media with Amy is trying to unify into this neutral and boring personality, and Ian Flynn was probably guided to make Amy act a certain way by them.

I do think that the hate Ian Flynn gets is a bit too much, like sure sometimes his dialogue and the way he handles themes is a bit.... shite. (Seriously what was the theme of Frontier's story? Cause even i don't know. "Without the time stones??" haunts my dreams every night...) But after Shadow Generations and with the right team, i know that man can cook, i don't put the blame on him. Writers don't have as much freedom as you guys think... People check the stuff they have written, that shit has to be approved and changes must be done if the higher ups don't like it.

I wanna conclude by saying this, if there was a story or sub-plot in a Sonic game where Amy learns to reflect on past actions and go "you know maybe i was a little crazy towards Sonic, i should try to just be a great friend towards him instead!" I wouldn't mind that. I would enjoy it probably.

But you gotta fucking SHOW the character change for me to care about the new characterisation, otherwise I'm gonna see it as forced and damaging towards Amy as a character. What is one of the biggest things in storytelling?

Im kinda fucking sick of the overly toxic positivity mindset that's been going on with the Sonic community. It feels like walking around eggshells and you can't voice ANY criticisms at all. Sure are there lots of bad takes and harsh shit towards the games and media that it doesn't really deserve? Absolutely! I can name you plenty of high and mighty pricks in the community that give off vague criticism and are cunts about it, but for the love of God, if someone doesn't like the current characterisation of a character, don't fucking bully them for God sake. Don't restrict their takes, don't belittle them and think they are dumb. I have said some harsh things but I'm just genuinely frustrated with the community as a whole.

Guys, communities should not be a hivemind okay? That shit is boring and doesn't create for interesting discussions on what the series can improve on. If someone doesn't like the current model of Sonic for example but you do? That's fine. It's okay.

They have their own take, you have your own take. I'm not gonna call another person a moron for liking the current Amy we have. I know plenty of people who like the current Amy and I've seen what Amy in Frontiers has done to people. I know of people who now like Amy thanks to her recent appearances, and you know what? That's a good thing!!!!

But... I kinda wish they fell in love with the rose with thorns, the woman who reflected the values of her hero she admired, the one who helped Gamma and Shadow. I want them to fall in love with her. You know?

but yesterday i went around looking at the developer socials, as one does. first the wrong organ twitter account, which isn’t that hard to scroll at the bottom

i was looking at their mouthwashing memes really hahah

but then i saw in one of their old posts that someone asked about what happened to a shooter that was being developed, to which the account replied that it was sadly cancelled, and i thought “huh, i didn’t know about that, i wonder how it looked…”

*sigh* thoughts on Nintendo's botw/totk timeline shenanigans and tomfoolery?

tbh. my maybe-unpopular opinion is that the timeline is only important when a game's place on the timeline seriously informs the way their narrative progresses. the problem is that before botw we almost NEVER got games where it didn't matter. it matters for skyward sword because it's the beginning, and it matters for tp/ww/alttp (and their respective sequels) because the choices the hero of time makes explicitly inform the narrative of those games in one way or another. it matters which timeline we're in for those games because these cycles we're seeing are close enough to oot's cycle that they're still feeling the effects of his choices. botw, however, takes place at minimum 10 thousand years after oot, so its place on the timeline actually functionally means nothing. botw is completely divorced from the hero of time & his story, so what he does is a nonissue in the context of botw link and zelda's story. thus, which timeline botw happens in is a nonissue. honestly I kind of liked the idea that it happened in all of them. i think there's a cool idea of inevitability that can be played with there. but the point is that the timeline exists to enhance and fill in the lore of games that need it, and botw/totk don't really need it because the devs finally realized they could make a game without the hero of time in it.
