Tumblr media
After a day which didn’t seem to have an end, you were laying on the ground of one of the practice rooms, your limbs sprawled out while the coldness of the floor relaxed your strained muscles. Only recently you were accepted as a YG trainee and it still felt like a dream to you: Before this, you hardly could have imagined the life as one but now, you were quite literally living the dream and it was complete bliss. Even on days like these, when practice went on for hours and your body was aching with every step you took, you still felt as if this was what you always wanted.
On days like these, when you had to stay here for more than only a few hours, you waited until everybody left. Most of them would leave you be, already knowing your excuse for staying longer, but those who asked got the reply that you simply wanted to practise some more. After that, they would compliment you for your hard work and bid you farewell before leaving the building and leaving you by yourself. After a few seconds of waiting, listening if there were any signs that people were still nearby, a small smirk rose to your lips.
As you were now positive that there was none but you left, your arms promptly extended towards your bag. With quick fingers, you had your phone in your hands within mere seconds. Now it was only a matter of rapid finger motions until your face would light up with glee, the studio instantly being filled with familiar tunes as soon as you pressed the play button of the video. The moment you saw the face of a certain blue haired male, you couldn’t help but let the joy escape your mouth in form of a squeal.
You now laid on your stomach while the parquet would cool off your heated body, the mobile device in front of you as it blasted the electronic beats of ‘Highlight’. Your head had been propped on one of your palms while your eyes followed the movements of the choreography as if you were in trance. Although you had probably watched the video a dozen times, you frankly couldn’t get enough of it, mainly because of a particular member that got your heart fluttering with only a mere appearance.
Absentmindedly, your fingers trailed over the flat surface that was the screen of your mobile. A mumble escaped your mouth, your mind still rested assured as you were sure that no one would hear it, anyways. “The hair looks so good on him. I wonder if he complained when he first got it dyed in such a crazy colour...”
                                                   “Dara sure did.“
Immediately, your whole body reacted to the feminine voice that suddenly disturbed your peaceful delight. With frantic and quite clumsy movements, you had finally hoisted your body up, eyes promptly meeting another pair which looked at them with pure amusement. However, you were put at ease, realising who had bothered you.
“Chaerin unnie? I thought everybody had left already.”
You said clearly confused while your curious eyes trailed between the mysterious plastic bags and its content and the eyes of the confident blonde. The female would only shrug at your indirect query as she took a few steps to enter the room. “I already left but then I heard that you were staying here to practise. So, being the awesome sunbae I am, I brought...” She stopped talking in the process of taking out the styrofoam boxes which were previously captivated within the bags. “Chinese takeout !”
A scream of jubilation passed your lips as you moved over to the elder, hugging her from the side like a child clinging to its mother. Chaerin would only let a chuckle out in response as she threw her head back in enjoyment. Soon, you would detach your body from hers, turning towards the boxes with a hungry glint in your eyes. Quickly, you had them opened and began to eat the food, stuffing various things into your mouth, your antics seeming hasty and as if you were in a hurry. However, it was only the hunger that tempted you into such behaviour. The other female had done the same, though, her demeanour seemed more collected than yours.
With a mouth that was stuffed to the brim, you began to talk to her, the words muffled by the hindrance which was the food: “If I gain weight, it’s your fault.” She would only quirk an eyebrow at that exclamation before confidently replying that you wouldn’t. “And by any means, you probably haven’t eaten something since breakfast. I have to take care of you reckless children because you don’t pay attention to your health.” Pleased with her own answer, she would avert the attention back from you towards the dish in front of her.
“Still!” You insisted, playfully bumping shoulder with her as a smile had spread itself over your face. “Though, you only do that for me.” “Don’t tell anybody but It’s probably because you’re my favourite, (Y/N).” Her voice was barely above a whisper, imitating the antics of a person that had just told somebody a secret. “Yah ! Don’t talk about us trainees as if we’re animals.” “But you are cute like a puppy !” The blonde would counter with a smirk on her pink lips, a hand extending towards you before she gently pulled at your cheek. With a defeated sigh leaving your mouth, you would give up at discussing this topic with the elder.
However, it was the truth; Ever since you were accepted as a trainee by YG Entertainment, Chaerin became like an older sister for you. She would take great care of you, even to the point where others would notice the favouritism as well. Though, it hadn’t stopped the elder from continuing to spoil you. Since you were almost always without money, the blonde would often offer to buy you things. Be it new clothes because yours were torn or food because you haven’t eaten all day, it would be no problem for the female. At first, you hadn’t noticed it due to it happening in small amounts but it gradually became more.
The reason for it, as stated by the rapper herself, was that you reminded her of herself when she was a trainee. She wanted to make your life less hard than it already was, so, she would shower you with gifts. Another thing that quite literally made her become your sister was that she saw you being reluctant when it came to bonding with other trainees. You almost always seemed to be somewhere else when the others were having fun or you simply didn’t talk when you all had to accomplish something together. Being quiet, that’s what you were known for.
If Chaerin hadn’t approached you herself, you probably would have never ended up in such a relationship with her. With her overflowing confidence and her facade that resembled a feline, she was far too intimidating for you to befriend. But now, you realised how goofy and how sweet she actually was. You two had truly something in common; The both of you were almost always judged by your appearance and first encounter which would often turn people away; Chaerin came off as too strong and people found you to be too quiet to talk to. However, within, you were actually very kind, society was just far too busy to get to know you properly.
                                                         “(Y/N).”
Her voice brought you back to reality as you found yourself getting lost in your thoughts once again, a habit of yours that would occur frequently. You craned your head to face her properly before nodding, signifying that you listened.
                                        “Why are you exactly here?”
You let a groan escape your lips as your pupils seemed to disappear behind your eye sockets as you rolled your eyes at that question. Not only did your fellow trainees ask you the same question, now Chaerin would as well? Wasn’t it obvious what you were doing? It should be.
“I was practising before you had interrupted me.” You replied with a cheeky smile on your lips, an expression that you would only show to your closest friends. Chaerin, however, did not seem fazed by your demeanour, it only increased her amusement as she raised a blonde eyebrow. “Oh? Really? Then why did I catch you swooning over a certain someone? Does that count as practice nowadays?” She asked, feigning innocence as she started to bat her eyelashes at you. You, on the other hand, almost choked on your food realising that she, indeed, knew the true reason of you staying late.
                                                 “I-I wasn’t !!”
                                           “Oh yes, you were.”
                                               “No, I wasn’t !”
She motioned with her hands to calm down, clearly still getting enjoyment out of this situation, more precisely, over you almost freaking out. “It’s okay, (Y/N). Though, If you weren’t, what’s with those pictures on your phone? I think his name is Jun, right? He’s from this boy group called ‘Seventeen’ if I remember it right.” Everything rolled off her tongue so effortlessly as if it wasn’t a big deal. Meanwhile, you were screaming on the inside from embarrassment.
“Is he something like your ultimate bi-”
Before she could utter the next sentence, your hand was already covering her mouth, restraining the blonde to torture you. “H-How do you know ?” Your query came out with a shaky voice, matching your condition: Your face seemed to glow, radiating with heat as it was completely consumed by a dark red colour. Apparently, Chaerin had taken notice of that, clearing her throat as she would remove your hand from her lips. “Couple days ago, you left your phone with me as you went to the toilet. I wanted to take some selfies with your camera and stumbled upon the dozens of pictures which you had kept in your gallery.” Her explanation had shredded the last piece of calmness within you into nothing as you shouted in agony.
You threw your body back, crossing your arms above your face while laying on the floor. “This is true pain...” You mumbled while a strained chuckle left your lips. The elder would soon accompany you on the parquet while her gaze was directed at your wailing form. “But why? With your position as a YG trainee, you could get to know him and..” The pause made you look at her, however, the eyebrow wriggling only earned a disapproving look from you. “Not funny.”
“But I’m not joking!” She said with an offended look plastered on top of her countenance, crossing her arms beneath her chest as she now sat up next to your laying body. “It’s not going to happen. I’m only a trainee. He will never acknowledge me...” You mumbled, a sad tone deeply carved into your words as you rolled to the side, your back now facing the blonde. Due to that, you hadn’t the chance to catch the scheming expression and the smirk that blossomed upon her face. “We will see about that ...”
“Calm down, (Y/N)!!” The blonde would retort with a chuckle accompanying her words while watching you run through the dorm. “How ?! Tell me ?! It’s my first award show !!” You almost screamed, scaring your roommates who had never seen you in such a frenzy. “I’m so jealous...” Yeonhee said as she watched you make the finishing touches for your outfit. Immediately, you felt guilty upon seeing the saddening expression of one of the people who would be debuting with you. It was a rare experience for trainees to attend award shows, to be precise, almost no one had the chance. Though, with Chaerin as your alleged ‘mentor’, she somehow got the okay for you to do so.
You gulped anxiously, not knowing what to say as you felt your cheeks flaming up with embarrassment. The elder could feel the rising tension between the two of you and tried to lighten the mood with a genuine smile. “Don’t worry, Yeonhee. As soon as you guys will debut, you will also attend one.” With those words, she had the girl overflowing with glee at the thought, jumping from her seat as she ran over to hug her senior. With amazement you watched the two: You aspired to be like her and someday, maybe you will.
With jittery hands and legs, you were seated next to the confident blonde whose eyes were focused on the stage. You didn’t undergo the professional styling like Chaerin did but still, you would dare to say that you looked quite good. It was like a dream, sitting here with other Idols which goal was just like yours. They, though, were already living it while you were still determined to train hard for it. Suddenly, you were ripped from your thoughts as you heard a familiar tune coming from where the stage was located.
A squeal had almost escaped your mouth before you reminded yourself that cameras were watching and you had to act composed. However, as soon as you saw a certain someone enter the stage with his group, you couldn’t handle the excitement and gripped your dress tightly, almost to the point where it would rip. The blonde could only snicker at your behaviour, leaning in as she spoke to you, the music being far too loud for a normal conversation. “Thank me later!”
You could only cast a bright smile at her words before your attention was back to the stage which was now glowing in red colours while ‘Chuck’ played. In the first few seconds of the song, you were greeted with the sight of Jun standing in the middle which only added to your joy. After that, Seventeen as a whole performed some more songs before it cut back to the award ceremony. The whole time you felt like a little girl which was exploring a candy shop for the first time.
It was late when the award show ended, leaving your body tired but still full of adrenaline. Due to that, your mind didn’t seem to acknowledge the fact that you were beginning to feel sleepy as you walked with Chaerin towards the exit. Still excited about the stages and completely lost in your own world, your mouth didn’t seem to stop talking. In response, the elder could only smile.
However, suddenly, the genuine smile faltered and left a smirk to rise to her red coloured lips. Her legs would stop and so did you, leaving you questioning her behaviour before she gripped your wrist tightly and walked back towards the backstage area. You didn’t understand her motives but since you wouldn’t get home without her, you obliged and followed the elder like an obedient kitten.
The bewilderment was still carved into your features, nevertheless, it would soon cease from your face as you were greeted with the sight of 13 men talking with each other, clad in coats with a grid pattern on it. As soon as the situation dawned on you, you tried to break free from her death grip which only earned an amused chuckle from the blonde. “You’re not getting out of this one, (Y/N)..” Her voice was barely above a whisper as she cast a quick little glance towards you before advancing forwards. She had approached them quietly, only gaining attention from a few, them bowing politely, acknowledging her to be a senior.
The horror in your eyes only grew when she headed directly towards a dark haired male who was conversing with another boy, his hair dyed in a bright red colour. You wanted to scream so badly but knowing that it would only draw more attention towards you, you had kept quiet while looking to the ground. However, from the corner of your eye, you could see how Chaerin tapped the male’s shoulder, gaining his attention immediately. Upon seeing her, both of their eyes widened, quickly bowing in order to be polite. The blonde would only chuckle before her grip ceased from your wrist and returned to your shoulders, yanking her from your position next to her, to in front of her and also in front of the man you dreaded to meet: Wen Junhui.
It wasn’t like you didn’t want to meet him but rather worried that your shyness would turn him away just like many other. You felt your blood rush through your body all the way up to your face, creating a crimson colour that spread over your cheeks. “My hoobae here.” She pointed at you while you still didn’t cast a single look to the male, feeling your body shake as you awaited the words of Chaerin, which would seal your fate. “Can’t stay alone because it’s her first time being here, and I need to go see someone. Can you please take care of her while I’m away ?” She ushered towards him, faking that she was in a hurry. While you clearly could see through her act, Jun seemed to take her worrying over your to be genuine.
“Sure. I will take care of her.” The male said before he bowed again, his voice making you almost melt as you had bitten your lip to suppress any sounds to escape your mouth. “See you soon.” With those words, the blonde would walk away, leaving you and the two Chinese males alone. It was silent after that. A silence that consumed the three of you and left you standing there, almost drowning in embarrassment. I’m going to kill her. Suddenly, a masculine voice shouted for the red haired male to come over which made the three of you look up to its source. Without a complaint, he bid his farewell to the both of you and left you alone.
With that, you tried to avert your gaze from the ground and attempted to finally look up to the male, standing in front of you. You could still feel your face radiating heat while your hands were drenched in sweat as they tightly gripped your dress. You were completely mesmerised by him, the second your gaze was drawn to his face. Even though he didn’t look back, just standing nearby the male made you swoon. In mere seconds, he had probably felt you staring, were his eyes on you as well. It had worsened your condition; the red on your cheeks darkening as you felt your lips starting to quiver. However, you didn’t really mind it the attention.
Apparently, he was getting frustrated with the awkwardness, biting his lower lip while thinking what to say to you. “So...” He had begun, his voice drawing you in as you attentively listened to him. “I’ve never seen you here before. Are you a new artist?” He had asked, it being clear that he somehow wanted a conversation to blossom. The effort was there and you could only appreciate it because, without that little question, you probably would have waited there in complete silence for Chaerin’s return.
“N-No..” You shook your head, your voice flat. “I-I’m still a trainee. Chaerin unnie took me here because I’ve always wanted to attend one.” Seemingly, your answer had left him in awe as his pupils dilated. “Woah..That’s amazing.” He had mumbled, much more to himself than to you. You felt the tension starting to rise again as the silence returned. So, with that, you took in a deep breath and started to take the conversation in your own hands. It was a one time chance, after all. “Y-Yeah..It’s crazy, right? I hope that I’ll get the chance to attend an award show with my group. It would be an honour to stand on the same stage as you.”
Quickly, you had realised what you just said and covered your mouth with both of your hands in order not to say more. You just said him. Jun. You didn’t say Seventeen. You just said you. You could feel yourself already dying as his widened eyes seemed to be only focusing on your panicking ones. He probably thinks that you’re weird now. Great, you’ve ruined it. That’s why you shouldn’t talk, (Y/N). Soon, you felt like crying, closing your eyes to suppress the tears from falling. Not now. Plea-
“I think you will do great.” He said, his voice calm and collected, making you open your eyes with wonder. You were sure that he would find you strange after that, but he didn’t seem to be in the least burdened. “I should feel honoured to be your inspiration.” He said, however, obviously regretting the cheesy line as he shut his eyes quickly. “Crap. That sounded weird, didn’t it ?” A groan now passed his lips, to which you could only respond with a chuckle.
“N-No !! It was really sweet of you. Mine was weirder. “ You would shake your head promptly with a smile on your lips that seemed to intoxicate him as well, making the corners of his lips to curve upwards. “I don’t think so.” He mumbled with a flat voice, in order for you not to understand. “I didn’t quite catch your name...”
“It’s (Y/N).” You would extend your hand towards him and bow slightly. Seconds after, he would take your smaller hand into his and shake it gently before letting go of you. “My name is Junhui but...you probably already know that, right ?” He said with a hint of teasing hiding in his words to which you could only look down and nod. You would soon feel the need to look up again as you heard footstep approaching the both of you. Soon, there was a hand on your shoulder which gripped it tightly. “You two had fun ?” A familiar voice spoke and made you nod your head, absentmindedly, not noticing that you were still in the presence of Jun. Nonetheless, he could only smile to your response and mimic your movement.
“Good. We have to go now, though. So, say goodbye because the driver’s not waiting, you know ?” Somehow that triggered something within the male as he called out to wait, even though, you both were still in front of him.Obviously embarrassed about his outburst, he cleared his throat and looked to somewhere else. “Would it be okay to exchange numbers? I mean, I would like to know when you debut and stuff..” He mumbled, not trying to be in the slightest demanding. Your eyes widened upon his request, the same exact heat that was there before, returning to your face. Chaerin, however, would only squeal which had taken the both of you aback. “Of course she will !!” She exclaimed and fished your phone out of your purse, without you agreeing to it.
Mere seconds after his number was saved into your contacts and yours was in his, you would bid farewell to him. Waving at each other shyly as you walked out of the area with a grinning blonde to your side, leaving an also joyful Jun behind.
As soon as the two of your were out of the hall and seated in the car, you would tackle the female and hug her with all the might you could muster, almost crushing her in that process. “I can't breathe !” She chuckled while you muffled your sounds of glee into her fur coat.
“I’ve decided not to kill you, unnie !!” You exclaimed as you finally looked up to her, being greeted with a confused expression from the blonde. “I was expecting something like ‘I love you’ but okay...” She said, feigning being hurt while looking to the side. “Nah..” You spoke in a gentle voice while the excitement had still not ceased from your system.
                                          “That would be too clichĂ©.”
