Balor and Yana in Andrey Vasin's style, my beloved <3
#bubble comics#balor and yana#бесобой#demonslayer#he just... draws them in a very specific way??? it's not horny/flirty like it is with kim or calm/balanced like with zaidova???#it's something else. like they're truly some divine entities that are both chained to humanity and were cut off from it.#not to mention that when he has to draw them it's chapters/arcs that show how their relationship is NOT easy at all.#his bayana chapters don't exactly hurt. they just make you question a lot about them. WHICH IS THE POINT. IT'S GOOD.#they remind us that balor and yana still have problems with communication due to having very different points of view#THE GREY MORALE BAYANA TERRITORY MY BELOVED-#these frames are actually from the chapter that shows mentor/student aspect of their relationship. which is always welcome.#he's supposed to be her teacher more than hound or koroleva since he's always with her.#it's even said that she got more knowledge from him than from school.

Chapter 17 foreshadowing/why I think Fushiguro Megumi might be in love with Itadori Yuuji
I've never understood the reason why Gege will add that line of Todo (i mean the special mention of the "it can be a guy")
The idea could've been perfectly understood even if the line wasn't added, but Gege purposefully sat on their desk and decided to draw this panel and add that specific line.
This means opening the possibility of Megumi liking guys, right?
I might be overthinking this, but text and dialogs are super important in mangas. Practically everything that it's said has (or should have) a purpose .
Dialogue scenes move the story forward, for instance, by giving important information about the characters, their relationships, the milieu, and the evolving events; they can also build suspense and reorientate the narrative.
So why then adding this?
We've seen several times that Fushiguro often thought of Itadori as a kind person—even since the beginning.
(It's literally Itadori being described)
If we go back some chapters, we can easily notice this is how Itadori is first introduced in the Manga: as a compassionate person, a good person with the intent of helping others.
In fact, Compassion its a highlighted feature Itadori has always showed through the entire series.
Even at Sukuna's final moment, he shows himself compassionate offering help to him.
Many had thought Itadori fits that description of Megumi, and now I'll explain why I think this is a possibility.
We know the relationship between them its centric in the story —it practically started because Megumi decided he wanted to save Yuuji.
We've see them caring for each other over and over again, many decisions they take are influenced by the thought of benefiting/trying to help the other.
And then we got Itadori really trying hard for an entire arc to save Fushiguro, and when the opportunity comes, he tells him it's okay if he doesn't want to live anymore, but at the same time addmiting he will miss him if he goes.
This scales to the point its practically the love they hold for each other that helps to completely defeat Sukuna
I would also like to add this panel and why I think Fushiguro was projecting himself with the desire of his sister being with someone like Itadori.
The line is Fushiguro stating he wanted his sister —a person we know he LOVES and thinks very highly of— to be with someone as good as Itadori.
He thinks very highly of the two of them.
Theyre both good persons so they deserve each other?
Therefore, he projects himself that way:
He might think it's Tsumiki who deserves to be with Yuuji because she was good, and Yuuji is good too, so logically they deserve each other, right?
He loves Yuuji, but he might not be worth his love because it was him who introduced Yuuji into the jujutsu world (a painful life full of lost and worries).
But maybe someone else might be worth, maybe his sister.
This is how he imagine a perfect peaceful life, he's trasmitng and projecting his desires.
It's not her who wants to be with Yuuji. It's you.
So gathering all the pieces together gives us the big picture, and Megumi's words might feel more like a foreshadowing of their relationship rather than simple words for introducing Todo in the Manga (tho it works in both ways). The response Megumi gives open the possibility for such feelings between the two of them.
So basically, everything we saw to this point that involves the two of them has been development and profundization in their relationship for this last punchline we got of Megumi realizing that he wants to keep trying because its worth living out of love
After all, love IS a centric theme in the story. It's mentioned several times along the series. Gojo describes it as the worst curse, Itadori thinks Sukuna acts that way because of the lack of it. And if we add this new layer, Megumi thinks its woth living out of it.
Ultimately, what's going on between them is inherently love— aside if it's or not romantic
I can't fully explain my ideas cause i can't put them in orden, sorry :/
This is just my opinion btw 🤷♀️ also there's only 3 chapters left so I might end up as a big fucking clown 🤡 literally anything could happen but we'll see
Anyway, tell me your thoughts on this 👇

While waiting for me to finally finish the next chapter..
DESIGN ANALYSIS FOR MY VIGILANTE AU >:D
As always, let's start in rainbow order! But first things first; all CG members have matching eyes, in one way or another! Red has yellow eyes, Orange has green eyes, Yellow has orange eyes, Green has blue eyes, and Blue has red eyes!! I might change things depending on how it looks, though.
Anyway, Red!!
I'll admit, I'm definitely giving him a design upgrade, but let's talk about this one.
Ah, the classic yellow bandanna. How could I leave it out? It's iconic!
His hair is definitely the wildest out of everyone's. A lot of black and grey in his design, too, which makes the yellow bits and the light-up shoes REALLY stand out.
The yellow matches his eyes and bandanna, and is reminiscent of that media trope with seeing yellow eyes peek from the darkness. The mask is, of course, to hide his face. Red didn't really seem like the guy to wear a visor like Green, or cover his entire face like Blue, so he gets that mask! Might change that, who knows.
His outfit looks thrown together with not that amount of effort. Very casual, as Green pointed out. Before Orange, he was the latest addition to the team, which can mean he can be a bit inexperienced. Wanted to convey that somehow!
Light-up shoes, oh, light-up shoes... who doesn't love them? Green certainly doesn't, but Red disagrees!
Next one!
Orange/Sketch
Now, I didn't draw their vigilante outfit yet, but I added the description of it to give an idea!
I wanted her hair to give a very anime-protagonist feel, if that made sense? Not sure if I got that right but it works for me! And hey! Freckles!
Working clothes: His pants are covered in paint to give an artist-like feel. (I should know. I paint a lot and some of my clothes did NOT survive the process.) As for the top and apron, I wanted it to feel like an actual café worker's uniform without it being a basic starbucks rip-off.
Vigilante outfit: VERY reminiscent of outfits animated characters would wear in scenes where they're doing some graffiti on the streets. That was my main inspiration behind the design.
Also in dark colors. They have to blend into the darkness and stuff!
The pouch mentioned was for practical sake; as is something I like to do when thinking of designs. And it helps with the artistic urge to draw at any time, regardless of what the situation is.
Not much to say about Orange's design, besides the fact that I wanted to give it a very protagonist-y vibe.
Yellow/Y
The second design is more or less his actual vigilante outfit, buuuut yeah!
Curly hair -despite my inability to draw it- and Yellow has been a favorite hc of mine!
His outfit is somewhat inspired by steampunk? Not exactly, but I DID have steampunk in mind while making it! The pilot's jacket was the best change yet.
Someone on a03 has told me that he looks like Alan, somehow! I'm not sure if I see it, so does anyone else see it? It would be a funny coincidence if so!
Green/Songbird
His hair is my favorite part of my Green design so I HAD to keep it! The classic headphones are there with a gamer-ish colour scheme.
VERY hip-hop and streetdance inspired! His visor is a reference to the sunglasses Orange gave him in the "More Faces" short, rather than his sunglasses in the Influencer Arc.
His clothes are a reference to the clothes I see my sister wear for her own dance training, and I love streetwear in general, so its a perfect fit! The necklace is just for show, though. Nothing practical about that, but it does look cool! Plus, it's a notion to his powers! His outfit is practical, but still shows off somehow, just like Green!
My vigilante!Green is the most experienced in the group, so I wanted him to look that way, somehow? And he definitely looks the most professional! I think!
Blue/The Witch
The second member to join the vigilante team!
I HAD to give her a hat. The witch's hat is a must. Practical? Not exactly. Cool? Yes, indeed.
The mask is my favorite part. A direct reference to the "Faces" short, AND a good way for Blue to, ahem, mask her identity (hehe a pun)
The sweater and coat combination seems strange, but it looks a little like a modern witch outfit? Trenchcoats definitely give a vigilante vibe in a way, and Yellow already had one, so Blue gets a belt and a sweater to go with it!
Blue definitely needed a bag for her potions. She can't just make them on the spot!- well, she can, but it would still be a hassle! She'd be the most practical when it comes to her clothing for vigilantism, after Yellow.
Purple/Aeolus!
Obviously, the cloak is a reference to elytra. The green hairtie, the bag and the cloak buckle is a reference to their mother, Orchid. You can see the vines on the bag strap, the flowers on the bag and buckle, and the leaf-shape on the hairtie.
There's also a lot of green on them, wink wink ;3
To hide their identity, they cover a majority of their face with the cloak hood!
It was hard to balance the colors, but I'm happy with the results! This one is simple compared to the others, but its still cool nonetheless!
Purple was meant to have ripped jeans but my drawing ability to low, so... sorry, Purple.
AAAAND THAT'S ALL! Sorry if this seemed boring or disappointing, or whatnot. I tried my best!

***This post contains heavy spoilers for the Ryugenzawa Arc and the Nodoka storyline through Chapter 384. English scans read left-to-right and Japanese scans right-to-left. Sorry!***
In chapter 275 of Ranma 1/2, Ranma tells a rival for Akane's affections to "take care of her" before leaping to almost certain death. Pretty standard stuff, a staple scene of action movies everywhere, right before the hero sacrifices himself to save the girl he loves. Except that the macho bravado of the moment is subverted by the fact that Rumiko Takahashi renders Ranma's physical form, in this scene, as a beautiful, sorrowing girl.
Sapphic overtones aside, this moment has stayed with me because it holds the series' ideas about gender conformity, and specifically masculinity, up for inspection. Throughout the series, Ranma is preoccupied with being a "real man" and is famously out of touch with his emotions. Most of the time this character trait is played for laughs, but the series does hold a fair number of moments when Ranma expresses genuine vulnerability, and oftentimes Takahashi draws Ranma going through these scenarios in his girl form.
Before I go further, it is worth mentioning that I am by no means claiming Ranma is in his girl form any time he displays emotion or moments of vulnerability, or that vulnerability is the only kind of emotion girl-Ranma displays. Rather, I am saying that Takahashi, as a storyteller, often makes use of the gender swap device to heighten the emotional impact of a scene and that, moreover, the emotions that Ranma bodily expresses as a boy often differ in their association with gendered attributes than the ones he expresses as a girl. As a boy, Ranma expresses anger, belligerence, confusion, comically rendered fear - all "active," masculine-coded feelings. On the other hand, during moments of sadness, uncertainty, acquiescence, or some sense of loss, when they are not played for laughs or as a setup to a gag, he is often drawn as a girl. Even though Ranma is constantly trying to return to being a "real" man, Takahashi repeatedly undercuts the idea that this is a good and worthwhile thing to aspire to.
I won't get into what makes a "real man" here, but it's pretty easy to pick up on; as it turns out, the rules of heteronormative Japanese masculinity are a lot like the American ones: boys don't show weakness, boys don't back down or admit when they're wrong, boys don't show sadness or fear, and above all they don't eat girly stuff like yogurt parfaits.
Takahashi gets around the rules of masculinity by having Ranma embody vulnerability in a female body. This is both a loophole and a subversion. As a girl, Ranma is now "allowed" to show certain emotions, just like he is "allowed" to eat parfaits without inviting social judgement when in his female body. But since his gender identity remains male, he is still a boy eating the parfait, having these emotions. What makes his female-bodied vulnerability interesting is how it later affects his ability or willingness to express "un-manly" emotions while in his male body.
So, to return to Chapter 275: The thing is, Takahashi could have easily drawn Ranma as a boy in this panel. It would have been easy to insert a shot of him turning back into a boy via a Magically Appearing Kettle. As I stated earlier, this scene could have played like a macho action movie, with one guy "handing over" his girlfriend to another guy before sacrificing himself. And if Ranma were in his boy form when saying this line, it would definitely strengthen that read. You can easily imagine him delivering the line with a kind of macho stoicism and fortitude. But he doesn't. He delivers the line in his girl form, and what’s more Takahashi ramps up the ante here and draws him as downright beautiful. His features are exaggerated to emphasize femininity, with a small, rounded face shape and a delicately pointed chin. Ranma's eyes are huge, and light reflections take up most of the pupils, giving them a luminous appearance. This panel directly follows two shots of Akane and Ranma gazing at each other without speaking, and because the line is delivered so quietly, paired with Ranma's hyper-feminine appearance and expression, it locks the reader into the emotional intensity of the moment. In this moment, we're not thinking about Orochi. We're looking at Ranma mourning the loss of his relationship with Akane.
Remember that Ranma is under the understandable, if mistaken, impression that Akane has effectively tossed him over and chosen Shinnosuke as her new beau. This scene is not subtle about reinforcing the misunderstanding. Shinnosuke kept pace with Ranma in rescuing Akane from Orochi, he's sitting right next to her as she wakes up. In this panel Ranma is accepting and respecting what he thinks is Akane's decision to be with someone else, and this setup makes Ranma and Akane's reunification in the next chapter all the more impactful and romantic.
Without this panel, would we have gotten that final scene – surely one of the loveliest in the whole series – of Ranma mentally rehearsing all the things he wants to say to Akane and reaching for her hand? I would argue no. While Ranma was plenty upset after Akane first slapped him and shedding his feelings all over the place, in his boy form he expressed himself angrily, petulantly, and childishly - and that was when he wasn't repressing his emotions altogether. That's not the behavior of someone who possesses great emotional maturity. It is only after this scene that he is able, as a boy, to speak sincerely. And I would argue that it's largely because of his vulnerability in this scene that he’s eventually able to at least try to connect emotionally with Akane without hiding behind a lot of bluster and insults.
The tug of war between machismo and vulnerability comes to the fore even more strongly in the long Nodoka subarc that runs through the second half of the series. In a nutshell, Ranma's long-lost mother reappears in his life and is eager to reunite with Ranma, but with a catch: if Ranma hasn't grown up to be a "completely manly," then both Ranma and Genma will be held to a promise to commit ritual suicide. By conventional definitions, Ranma, obviously, is not 100% male and, faced with the prospect of literal death, meets with his mother as Akane's made-up cousin "Ranko," all the while dreaming of the day he can reunite with Nodoka as his real self.
The chapters involving Nodoka are gag-based and comical, and largely turn on ever more preposterous scenarios in which Ranma must constantly switch between his male and female bodies. One of the more serious arcs in this subplot involves Kumon Ryuu, a boy who impersonates Ranma and moves into Nodoka's house after convincing her he is her son. Ranma, of course, fights Ryuu in order to reclaim his name and identity. This arc is poignant and, unlike most other Nodoka arcs, played mostly as a dramatic storyline, because Takahashi makes no bones about how much Ranma loves his mother. This is the one relationship that Ranma wants and pursues without any kind of bluster or contrariness. He doesn't pretend that he doesn't want to see Nodoka. He doesn't rebuff her with rudeness or insensitive remarks. Ranma makes it clear that his mother is important to him and that he will go to extraordinary lengths to be in her life and have a connection with her.
Although Ranma ultimately defeats Ryuu in combat, there are two panels show how much of a pyrrhic victory this is. After the battle, Ranma get punted into a water trough (as one does) and, in his girl form, hides behind a pile of rubble while Nodoka confronts Ryuu. We see clearly how dejected Ranma is in this scene. Even though he is drawn in the foreground, Takahashi makes him look small next to the mound of dirt, and the way he is positioned, hunching down, hugging his knees, makes him look even tinier. He just looks really lonely and really sad, listening to his mother speak so gently to a boy who is not himself.
In the second panel, Ranma, still sitting in the same position, now looks even tinier, as the panel is drawn from an aerial perspective with Ryuu in the foreground and Ranma in the middle ground. Ryuu advises him to tell Nodoka the truth before departing for good. This is such a heartbreaking conclusion to this arc: Despite the physical and inner ordeals he has endured for his mother's sake, in the end he is reduced to hiding himself away, unable to either reveal himself or speak the truth. Emotionally, this is one of Ranma's lowest points, and once again, because the rules of masculinity preclude Ranma from expressing sincere dejection in a male body, Takahashi makes use of his female body and emphasizes his smallness to visually convey his emotional state.
Unlike in the Ryugenzawa arc, Ranma's display of vulnerability in his girl form doesn't lead to an emotional breakthrough in his boy form, as he remains a girl for the rest of the arc, which concludes on the next page. But it is striking that Ryuu, an antagonist and total outsider to Ranma's long-running drama, should be so insightful into the whole situation. He doesn't tell Ranma to 'man up' or to find a cure. He sees what is outwardly a forlorn girl and says, simply, 'tell the truth.' Whatever beliefs Ranma has about the "right" way to present himself to his mother doesn't matter. The truth is what matters. For his part, Ranma absorbs Ryuu's advice without a word, and it is perhaps telling that although it will take another 85(!!) chapters before the Nodoka subplot is finally resolved, Nodoka only appears in three more storylines in between. This moment is really the beginning of the end for this whole rigamarole.
This scene also shows how exhausting it is to keep up the ruse. It is stressful to have to pretend to be someone else in order to keep a relationship with a loved one. It must also be so emotionally taxing to be thwarted every time you work up the nerve to tell the truth, just as it must be to have terror of the consequences of outing yourself almost involuntarily override your desire to connect.
And indeed, it all comes to a head in the subplot's concluding arc. Ranma, in his girl form, finds himself continuously confronting Genma, who as usual wants to prevent him from revealing the truth to Nodoka, and running away from Nodoka herself. Finally, Genma knocks him out, and when he regains consciousness he hazily sees Nodoka bending over him, holding a water kettle. Instinctively, Ranma splits the kettle open with a leg slash, only to discover it is empty. Ranma and Nodoka face each other for a moment before Ranma runs off.
The only way I can describe Ranma's expression in this panel is "devastated." The position of his eyebrows really makes this a unique expression. Whatever boy Ranma's mental state, be it confusion, smugness, or shock, his brows are usually furrowed downwards, suggesting dominance, control, and assertiveness. Here, however, they're arched much less sharply, opening up his whole face.
As he runs away, Ranma expresses fear that his mother has discovered the secret to his transformation. That's certainly a reason to be devastated. However, I also read this moment as being the horrible, worst-case culmination of all the stress Ranma has been under so far. He has become so panicked and worn down that he is lashing out, however inadvertently, at the one person he is desperate to please, and once again Takahashi uses his female form to visually communicate that Ranma is at his lowest emotional point.
But all is not lost! Somewhat beautifully, Takahashi shows that girl Ranma is also a conduit of positive vulnerability. In the next chapter, Ranma (still in his girl form) wakes up from a nightmare and immediately has to evade an attack from Genma. Genma reminds him that if he tells Nodoka the truth, both of them will have to commit seppuku. It's the same old go-around; we have seen this exchange before, and we know what's coming next: Ranma's going to declare that he's going to meet his mom anyway, and Nodoka will show up, and Ranma will reflexively chicken out and turn into his girl form.
This time, however, Ranma does something unexpected. He says, with a smile on his face, "Dad...I wanna stop lying already." He looks completely at peace, and it's clear that following the harrowing confrontation with his mother, Ranma's outlook has irrevocably shifted. His desire to reunite with Nodoka is finally more powerful than his fear of death, and he will accept whatever consequences may come, so long as he can meet with his mother honestly.
In contrast to how he is drawn in the Ryugenzawa arc, Ranma's face here is almost a blend of masculine and feminine features. His jawline is stronger and his eyes sit higher on the face, giving him a less exaggerated, delicate look. If his boy and girl forms were combined into one body, this is how he might appear, and his harmonized features reflect the resolution of his inner turmoil.
Once again, in a world where kettles of hot water can and do appear out of thin air, Takahashi could easily have had Ranma deliver this line in his male form. I think that she doesn't because it is important to show Ranma breaking the cycle of deception and evasion that Genma has trapped him in up until now. He's not responding with aggression this time, but rather with peace and acceptance and a new-found moral conviction. He dials down the energy; he's not doing this anymore. This is, as much as anything, an assertion of independence from his father's influence: Ranma has found his own way forward and is no longer going to let the terms of his relationship with Nodoka be dictated by fear and cowardice.
The payoff comes in the arc's climactic scene when Ranma, now in his male body, rescues Nodoka after she falls off a cliff. Mother and son are finally reunited face-to-face and, in a really touching detail, Ranma's long-awaited reunion plays out totally differently than how he has fantasized. Instead of being a cool and composed tower of manly virility, welcoming his mother into his manly arms, Ranma starts to cry and clings to Nodoka while burying his head in her shoulder. It is a pure, cathartic, completely unmanly display of emotion, and this time Ranma does it all while in a male body.
Amazingly, Ranma goes even further in trying to express himself. We see his inner monologue as he urges himself to tell Nodoka that he was Ranko, and even starts to say so out loud before he is stopped by - of course - Genma. This is a critical character development moment because, having just performed a heroic rescue, he quite honestly doesn't have to tell the truth. He could have hustled Nodoka back up to safety and just tried extra hard to remain male for the rest of the day. But he commits to his own words: He wants to stop lying. He wants to present his whole self to Nodoka, and that includes the non-masculine parts of his identity.
In the series, so much of the characters' time is preoccupied with policing gender conformity, which is not unsurprising for a gender-bender series. Ranma is inundated with comments about how a man should behave and he shouldn't behave, how he should think and how he shouldn't think, which emotions are appropriate and which ones are not. Ranma puts himself into a bind because for the most part he subscribes to this model of masculinity, and indeed until relatively recently he was nearly the perfect embodiment of it. But being "100% manly" just sends Ranma into a vicious cycle of misunderstandings and arguments and isolates him from the people he loves. The hard lesson he learns is that when he actually taps into "weaker," "unmanly" feelings, he's able to break out of this unproductive cycle and move forward to achieve his goals.
Although Ranma’s quest is to regain his manhood, we are not meant to cheer on Ranma's displays of machismo. The takeaway from Ranma's moments of vulnerability is not that it's ok to show emotions so long as you appear to be a girl. It is that heteronormative masculinity is so restrictive and so repressive that it cuts off outlets of healthy, human emotional expression. It is both futile and harmful to keep chasing after a type of masculinity that isn't really realistic to embody and still retain a sense of an emotionally whole self. Ranma isn't just a tough guy. He has deep reserves of sensitivity. He is sad sometimes. He feels heartbreak deeply. He is a boy who just wants his mother.

I'll Be Your Whatever - Story Hiatus
Description: Life is full of all sorts of characters - some who come and go, and others that stay. After propelling yourself into a lie you can't (won't) take back, a certain pirate captain may have a reason to come by more often. (Story tag)
Alrighty, I would very very much like to come back to this fic one day, but I truly do not know when that will happen. I think the outline I put together took away some of the drive to write the actual story, but I still want to SO BADLY.
So this story doesn't remain unfinished for however long, I'm going to share the outline I put together using beat sheets and story arcs.
Tag list: @rorywritesjunk @ane5e @venulus @misadventures0fdes You asked to be included in the tag list for the story, so I'm also tagging you here. I'm sorry for dropping the story and this hiatus, but I hope knowing that the ending exists brings some peace!
For reference: CB = Captain Buggy, MC = Main Character (aka, you, the reader!) WC: ~1.4k
As a recap of the story so far, MC tried to get 2 overly flirtatious guys off her back by saying a stranger passing by was her boyfriend. That stranger was Buggy, of course lol. Trying to stay low and play the part, MC and CB kiss. They joke about CB continuing to be a boyfriend and MC mentions having a treasure chest. A few days later, CB shows up at MCs place with flowers and saying he'll agree to be her boyfriend if she promises him the treasure map.
Chapter 4
They go on a mini date, as a way for them to talk about the agreement - they talk about the timeline and how long to "date." They decide to go get lunch.
Hot dog lunch. Hint at CBs favorite food.
CB blows kisses to MC while she’s in line.
Contract:
Don’t tell the truth - a deal’s a deal
MC pays for food
Compliments for Buggy
Hold hands
Kissing? We’ll figure it out if we need to
Buggy has to stop by whenever he’s in town
Buggy goes to the town festival - MC tries to convince CB to agree to go to a town festival in a few weeks or whatever, long enough for dudebros to lose interest. Offers a treasure map.
"If I’m being totally honest, that sounds like my worst nightmare."
MC stands up to someone who tries to insult Buggy’s nose. Fiery. They have to leave wherever they were. CB is impressed by her spunk.
B Story - CB inviting MC to visit the ship.
At some point CB invites her, a shadow passes over her face, he asks if she really dislikes the idea that much.
MC feels stuck to the small town and guilt about her dad missing those kinds of experiences. She looks at Buggy's eyes and sees the draw of the ocean in them. Whatever enticed Buggy and her dad to love the sea, is reflected in his eyes.
Chapter 5
Fun and Games - coming to the weekend market
Oh yeah, no he said he wasn’t able to make it. But! CB shows up unexpectedly. YN blows him a kiss and he catches it.
CB gets into a scuffle at the weekend market.
Rowdy customer, "how about I pay you in kisses, pretty thing? No? Whatever, this shit isn’t even that good."
“no one gets to treat you like that, you hear me? no one.”
They eat fresh donuts, “oh you have to try these, they’re my favorite,” MC dabs some powdered sugar off the corner of his mouth.
Test of love trope! Conducted by a new jewelry shop. Start easy - eye color, fave food, feed each other, draw each other, blindfold and guess their partners hands, winners get matching bracelets. This is their first kiss.
CB putting the bracelet on MC "This means you’re mine. That’s what you wanted, right?" She gets A LOT of butterflies.
Walking back, the pictures they drew of each other blow away and fall into a tide pool. MC wading through water to get the drawings.
He made the day so special and she doesn’t want this to ruin it.
The drawing / picture she made isn’t that bad, he actually kinda likes it himself. So MC gives it to him. He becomes more enamored with it when she goes to save it from the water.
Nearby sailors / pirates laugh at MC in the water (lighthearted), she calls back that it’s not like they don’t get dirty treasure hunting.
CB gets butterflies from her insistence and calling the papers treasure.
Piggy back ride home? Slightly spicy. It was like their skin was calling out for the other's gentle touch.
Chapter 6
Fun and Games cont - MC said she would see CB off the next day but she doesn’t show up because she’s sick from the previous night.
CB comes by, sees that she’s okay but sick.
He leaves for a moment and comes back with some stuff to help her feel better. He also postponed shipping off until the next day.
She bashfully asks if he’ll stay a little longer. He stays until she falls asleep.
MC calls him pretty boy and he hecking likes it.
She wakes up the next day to a note telling her that he won’t be in the area for a while.
Chapter 7
Mini scene, MC notices that the dudebros seem to have moved on. They asked for a double/triple date, but MC deflects bc who knows when CB will be in town.
MC mentions this to CB in passing.
Midpoint - Next time, MC visits CBs ship. It’s a good visit. Overall a positive experience. There is some real-ness to life aboard the ship.
Cabaji shows unicycling, meet Mohji and Richie, CB shows off knife throwing (maybe a contest between him and Cabaji, CB wins and Cabaji says at least he’s better at unicycling)
Buggy helps rig the new sails
Pirates swap stories. Talking about what it was like adjusting to life on the ship, but how amazing it is. All the sights and experiences. She has stars in her eyes while listening. Her mind sketching images of what’s being described. She’s even comfortable talking about her dad.
How do you tell your fake bf that you're nervous near him because you're starting to fall for him?
MC likes seeing CBs swagger and how his crew adores him. CB puts his hand on her shoulder and kneads.
She stays overnight (one bed), CB doesn’t sleep.
Chapter 8
Bad Guys Close In - As MC leaves, she’s accosted by pirate thugs, who notice she’s been hanging around CB.
Maybe they think she’s a sex worker? Sugar baby? She tries to say that’s not it, then they think she must be something more special. They could probably get a ransom.
Chop chop Buggy comes in to save the day. Or CB throws a knife, trapping them. CB walks her back home, tries to make it seem light hearted, doesn’t want MC to be too afraid.
MC is a bit unphased since pirates are always visiting.
MC kisses CB goodbye on the cheek. “Could you try that again?” “Better?” “Yeah…”
Chapter 9
All is Lost - Break up because CB is afraid MC will become a target. CB breaks up with YN, afraid of putting her in danger.
Even though CB dealt with those other pirates, that doesn’t mean there won’t be others
He doesn’t want to put her in danger any longer. Besides, the guys she was avoiding seem to have moved on.
MC asks if he found someone else, something more fun, feels cruel because they don't really think that's what's happening.
I guess my expectations were too high.
Dark of the Night - MC storms back and hands off the map. "A deal’s a deal and I don’t want to be in debt to a pirate."
Wrapped around the map is her bracelet.
Chapter 10
Dark of the Night - Why does CB change his mind? - He reads a letter on the back of the map and realizes he should give it back to MC.
Break into Three - CB's waiting for her at the party. A deal’s a deal. He also gives back the map and leaves.
MC probably talking with the art shop owner:"He likes you, I can tell by how he looks at you." "How does he look at me?"
"You think he's really waiting for me?"
Finale - MC reads the note on the map and runs to the dock for CB.
Note, from dad: “My dearest seashell, I thought being a pirate was how I could see the world, but then you came along and I saw the world through your eyes. Thank you for giving me the greatest gift anyone could ask for. I hope that one day, you find your key to the world.”
CBs not there? He’s by the wading pools, looking at the moon and drinking alone.
CB moping
How long do you think it’ll take for this to become a memory? Do you think you’ll forget about me?
They wanted to be touched, to be missed, to be loved. Was that too much to ask for?
He’s wearing both bracelets.
"Why did you come back?" "Because that belongs to you, it has your name on it."
"Bullshit, Buggy. You’re a pirate. A treasure hunter. Why did you really come back?"
"Why do you think?"
"You actually wanted to go to the festival?"
"That’s not what I want."
Anguished declaration of love - confessing love during a moment of angst
"I don’t want to stay here anymore. I want to leave. I want to draw the world you see."
MC is steadfast and waits for Buggy to respond. “I want that too.”
Big romantic kiss
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Do you want to?"
"Yes, you have no idea how much I've thought about this."

I loved the way you built the tension in the last chapter of the time war au, especially giving the lil hint that Crowley was in the kitchen when Aziraphale was at the tavern. The emotional stakes were high, and I could feel the lil want from Aziraphale. The temptation. Really good. I’m curious, did you draw from any specific experiences or influences to shape their relationship? Because this is quite different from canon. They just talk through letter. So the emotional connection should be harder to create
Honestly? It's a mix of the Good Omens canon and the relationship between Red and Blue from the original book this AU is based on ("This Is How You Lose the Time War", check it out, it's very good).
There's a lot of year jumps. We don't see all the letters they exchange. Most of the times, in between the letters that are revealed to us, there has been a shit ton of other letter we don't get to read that develope their connection.
Sure, sometimes they don't exchange letters for like half a century, but they are immortal beings. That's like a blink of an eye for them. The emotional connection doesn't vanishes like it would for a human if you only heard from your pen pal after 50 years
We are in 1650 at this point. Crowley has been smitten with Aziraphale for a while now. Since around Golgotha in 33 A.D when he saw the way Aziraphale held Mary after Jesus died.
Opposed to canon where - supposedly - Aziraphale understood his feelings for Crowley in 1941, here he has had the click in 1601, when Crowley makes Hamlet popular just because he mentioned in passing how much he liked it and was kinda disappointed that no one was showing up to watch it.
Crowley has been teasing him. Flirting with him, subtly, since 537 - King Arthur's arc - asking Aziraphale what he truly wants.
Aziraphale is Aziraphale, innit. He runs from questions when he doesn't want to answer. Just like in canon. But he has been hit now, so we will see if he breaks
Wait and see, I would say

I have absolutely no idea how the next chapter will unfold. I've tried looking and it doesn't seem like there are many theories either. Do you happen to have any idea what's going to happen?
There won't be much of it because honestly I'm not too sure and much is unknown. What's more, it's time. In such a world that plays with repairing the past to obtain a new future, it is impossible to predict what AR is going to do, there are many strange start-up events showing that this world is not as perfect as No. 1 wants it to be.
What I wonder is whether No.1 are really that stupid or are they just convinced of their good plan? I don't know what drives them, but it's clear that No. 1 took precautions. Akane only has to keep an eye on this, nothing more, no other information, so he won't interfere, it's his job. I called them stupid for leaving Akane on guard, as if they were sure he could handle it on his own. If Akane can't get them out the way he mentioned, then this world must be destroyed from the inside.
P.p arc is different from this arc because Hanako had the power over it and he decided what Mei draws, he knew the way out, fulfilling Mitsuba's wish by taking advantage of the fact that yashiro can live in this world, it was an advantage for him then. and here Amane is a teacher, he has no power. He can't do anything, so he has to destroy the world like I said above. Akane wants to make 100% sure that Tsukasa is gone once and for all.
The idea of this world was to get rid of Tsukasa and to do this they had to get rid of all the supernaturals and characters would only have memories of them, as Aoi said and show. Tsukasa may be the key to getting out of this world, it was him they wanted to get rid of, it was him they mainly wanted to annihilate and Tsukasa's may be key to destroy this 'perfect' world And also the past at the point that they changed No. 1 may be the time of the twins' past, where Tsukasa was never born, and Amane overcame the disease and became who he was supposed to become.
Considering how lazy the characters from the future are, it's no wonder that Amane had to take matters into his own hands again and make a mess of the ritual. That's why I think that the ritual of summoning Tsukasa by Amane is crucial and in my opinion Tsukasa will cause such things that the world will become unstable and the characters will spring into action.
I hope that Tsukasa will play with them very, very hard, so that there will be chaos. I hope that Tsukasa will take action, maybe Kou will get out of his hands, this will make Teru and maybe other characters take action if Kou is in danger.
I wonder if Tsukasa will just play with Mitsuba, it would make sense knowing how attached Mitsuba is to Tsukasa and doesn't mind how he is treated.
It seems to me that this school may also slowly turn into zombies that may attack studnets in school 'night of the living dead' which could also force Teru and the others to act
I find it funny that Hanako in the p.p. arc, to protect Yashiro's life, imprisoned her and didn't want them to get out, and now it's the other way around. It was No. 1 who imprisoned them all to get rid of Tsukasa and put Akane on guard, who in my mind is supposed to keep this world and watch over it, and when Tsukasa shows up, it's Akane's problem and she'll want to get rid of him as soon as he finds out, which at the same time means leaving this place.
It would be nice if it turned out to be true. Sorry, I can't think of anything better because it's the butterfly effect and AR can do anything, and it will be very turbulent after seeing how this world and time are really unstable.
Thanks for the ask.

Uhh I dunno if you still accepts asks atm, but I’ve been reading your fanfic for Kotetsu and I LOVE WHAT YOU DONE FOR HIM!!! Honestly thought S2 was gonna give him focus since I was sure from seeing the opening as he was seen closing his locker and that left me to believe (oh there’s gonna be a huge arc for Kotetsu?) but fast-forward to the end, THAT NEVER HAPPENED 😭
So I’m glad this fic exists so I pretend this was actually Season 2. Also, if you had to make a visual for Kotetsu’s Invisible Crusader costume (+ his and Barnaby’s stealth suit) what it would look like?
HOWDY! I do accept asks! Thank you so much for sending me one!!
I'M SO GLAD YOU LIKE IT!!! THANK YOU!! I'm also so nervous every time I post another chapter lol. My intention with No Good Deed was to give myself the series 2 that I wanted. I treat it like American comics where this is canon but it's just my universe. If I had the drawing talent, I would LOVE to make this into a comic book!
But DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON HOW BADLY THE WRITERS FUMBLED S2 OR I WILL RANT FOR PARAGRAPHS. I was also hoping that it would be focused on Kotetsu (expected it actually because the focus is always flipflopping between him and Barnaby). There's SO MUCH about Kotetsu and Ouroboros that we still don't know about!
I also wanted a specific focus where Barnaby was the support this time BUT could give crucial insight as someone who spent a good portion of his life doing investigations/getting obsessed with getting justice. Like WHY have that be a main part of his backstory and then be like "oh, well, he's done with that now, who cares?", especially when he STILL doesn't have answers about Ouroboros?
It just felt like if S2 decided to not add in three new random unlikeable characters, an entire Ryan backstory, all the casual friendship episodes in the first season, fiercely not letting Kotetsu and Barnaby stand no less than five feet away from each other 90% of the time, and making L.L. Audun a random adversary (and not even connect to ANY of the heroes by making him a past villain of Kotetsu's or SOMETHING), then the show would have made far more sense to be called TIGER & Bunny.
We also probably would have had less cringey and cooler fight scenes but I digress.
Suit Inspiration:
My vision for Wild Tiger's crusader suit was VERY much inspired by some of the early versions of Marvel and DC costume designs. Considering that Kotetsu would have been a crusader in the 60s very early 70s.
I was thinking something like Wildcat (DC) and Black Panther (Marvel) but with green tiger stripes, green claws, and a cape added like this:
BUT add the overall shape of Wild Tiger's cowl of his first suit so it comes across like more of a Tiger than a panther:
^^^Like this! I don't know WHY they got rid of the ears OR the cape!!! Not to mention I theorize the reason WHY Kotetsu is so clumsy in the Apollon suit is because it's BIG, HEAVY, CLUNKY ARMOR and he's used to lightweight, skin-tight, and having a full range of motion. AND I have the wildly unpopular opinion of preferring his first suit over Saito's.
NOW for the stealth suits for Wild Tiger and Barnaby:
SO I don't have the clearest vision here for them, but this is what they're supposed to be giving a mix of-
The Batman Beyond suit
and The Arkham Knight's suit:
BUT in their individual colours of course.
Kotetsu's helmet has the same ears that his first suit does and has claws, Barnaby's helmet has ears too but they look like the ones his regular Apollon armor has already.
Again, thanks SO much for the message and the ask! Please don't be shy to send asks my way as I very much welcome them!

okay
I for some reason have a very strong feeling that I am gonna poke the bear by asking this
and I am very scared to
but
considering you like xenofiction and manga
what are your opinions on Beastars
runs away
you know what that's fair because i had to do a little circle around my chair when you brought up beastars because of how many feelings i have on it.
tldr: beastars first half is an original and immaculate story that grounds its issues in its world before metaphor, but falls so flat on its face for the finale that it essentially doomed its own fate to die with a pitiful whimper
spoilers for beastars
I adore Beastars (the first half at least). It is such a strikingly original world that roots all of its problems IN ITS WORLD - which is my biggest problem with allegorical works of art. Beastars takes every step to show how these issues manifest within its world and how people would respond BEFORE it tries to lean on the metaphor and that's what I think separates it from Zootopia. Beastars is a world before it is a metaphor. I love her artwork and I love the character design, her expressions and the way she draws teeth and claws are my favorite. Paru Itagaki is an amazing artist, she has this very sketchy style reminiscent of Q Hayashida that I adore and much like Q, she knows how to make scenes weighty and bloody and PAINFUL. You will FEEL IT when these characters bit and claw at one another.
Beastars justifies its high school setting because it is specifically about how this world informs the development of its characters. Them being in high school is a great way to show their growth between young people trying to figure out their place, their self in their understanding of their school only for them to change as they grow. It's fantastic! The rich way the characters interact and perceive one another, interweaving both animal urge and emotions is fascinating to read. Paru Itagaki's strength is in her character writing and interactions, I adored the high school romance because I understood WHY these characters did things the way they did and I loved all the care that was put into making sure that every aspect of themselves informed their actions.
Legosi is such a kindly and endearing protagonist. I like that's he's a little weirdo and proud of it, I like that he's consistently making an effort to understand others. His relationship with Haru is my absolute favorite and, well, that's why the second half was such a let down.
In a stunning first half with enjoyable character arcs and fascinating character development, the sudden plummet into shounen battle arcs with the I'm InSaNe Melon was a huge let down. The second half, I firmly believe NEEDED to focus on Haru and Legosi's relationship. It is the ANCHOR of the story, it is the complete heart of both character's and it is so firmly enjoyable because of the dynamic that Itagaki has written. But instead, the finale stumbles on half-baked concepts (they made jojo stands?? and did NOTHING WITH THEM?????), unfinished plot lines (louis was in the mafia and didn't go to jail, his father is still cartoonishly evil and its never resolved), and antagonists so boring and unoriginal that i was begging for the manga to just put me down. Not to mention the whole predator and prey thing is just....resolved? all of a sudden?? not very well explained? Oh yeah! The great whale says we can eat fish now, glad that elaborate building up of the market and its cultural importance in the city can be resolved! What a way to go!
It is such a horrendous finale for such an intriguing and original series. I can only be at peace knowing the final chapter was the date we deserved WAY EARLIER. I loved Legosi working as a delivery guy, I could've had an entire slice of life series around that but nope! Boring pointless battle arc time. Sucks ass.
It sucks because the first half is so so good and I highly recommend it! I don't want this series to go out with such a whimper but goddamn....the ending is soooo bad. If you're interested in it, dip out as soon as Melon appears I mean it. You'll be happier, just go read Beast Complex it's so much better than the finale please just trust me on this.
#deer rambles#also unrelated: i remember when someone wrote a callout for this series (yes a callout)#AND GOT MULTIPLE FACTS WRONG BECAUSE THEY DIDNT BOTHER READING IT

(clearing out some drafts. condensing a couple of jnpr vs rwby into one post here)
August 1
i still haven't decided who wins rwby v jnpr
given me, there's an obvious answer. for plot reasons, i could convince glynda to skip it altogether. for canon reasons [post ends there, presumably i got distracted]
August 3rd
thinking about how i backed myself into a corner with rwby vs jnpr and how i don't really wanna write it so i might just skip it _(:3」∠)_
spoiler alert. processing rambles below.
if it does happen, rwby will probably lose because of weiss. unless rwby can convince me otherwise. they have the semblance advantage and canon on their side (food fight). however jnpr has non-canon on their side bc they're god's (my) favorite and also the way ive worked this volume favors them being more cohesive as a unit
i am thinking about ways to communicate even clearer when something from canon does or does not happen but i hope it's thus far clear that some things have yet to happen.
as Nora points out in her pre-jnpr vs crdl thoughts, she and jaune lost their duos demonstratory match. while it's yet to be mentioned, jaune still lost to cardin in his one-on-one as he does in canon.
i just rewatched jaunedice and forever fall before i decided to get tooooo far into JNdice planning. massively surprised that pyrrha becomes the target of cardin's ire simply because of being a know it all??? i knew i had my events mixed up but heavens that's hella extreme. makes dove's reasoning for going after Nora in ssvau seem... reasonable... good heavens. (hint: it's the jnpr vs crdl knockout)
for context's sake, and my own personal rambly timeline needs—
at the end of the rwby vs jnpr week (a week from current chapter), forever fall happens. which places jaundice taking place slightly to the left because i've adjusted cardin's asshole motivation in this au to crest with jaunedice, not quite originate there. giving a shorter time period of jaune torture. thankfully, because nora is our only pov that keeps track of jaune, i won't have to completely rehash canon-two-steps-to-the-left for this arc, only allude to what she notices. unfortunately for me, i do have to know everything that is happening. hence this ramble.
anyways i think the issue with jnpr vs rwby is several fold
i have a favorite team
nora is well rested
weiss is exhausted
jaune is not great at thinking on his feet
like they still prep and plan for rwby but they know damn well rwby has been more cautious about showing off than crdl ever was
pyrrha and nora and ren are gonna kick ass
blake and yang are gonna kick ass
ruby learns from earlier in the week after [spoilers] and can definitely kick ass if/when she stops pouting about weiss
the outcome has implications for the end-of-semester rankings which i am also still deciding
damn they might just have to fight until a draw due to time. because i think jaune and weiss would go down faaaaaaast.
----
bringing us to now....
okay SO since early august, i did some pretty intense problem solving and actually came up with the funniest solution possible. good news, i'm not going to skip it! bad news, im keeping the solution to myself until we get there.
it is my hope that my fight scenes are okay and fun to read, but i will be SO real with you they are one of my least favorite things to write. however, i think this one will be pretty fun

One Piece Chapter Discussion (Chapter 1124)
After having Oden with Denjiro and some rowdy kids, Yamato saves a person from being kidnapped on the way to Kuri. I’m not totally sure who the kidnapper could be. My first instinct is to say it’s Holdem, the lion SMILE user from the Wano arc. That’s because in the Volume 99, SBS, as translated here by Artur Library of Ohara, , Oda mentions how Holdem is his favourite SMILE user as his desire to draw Holdem was what led to the creation of SMILE users as a concept, with Holdem’s design being inspired by a childhood mech anime Oda used to watch. The other favourites of Speed and Hamlet could also be contenders or it could just be a inconsequential nobody but the blacked out silhouette makes it seem like it’s someone we know. It could be someone higher up the chain but I feel like a large portion of those people are still in the prisoner mines in Udon. Anyway, I wonder where Yamato’s cover story is leading to as Oda did mention that Wano still had a part to play near its end. Is it setting that up? Is it trying to give us closure on such a big arc? Or is it more like showing that the world continues to chug along? With that said, catch the discussion on the chapter itself under the cut!
Me and a friend are kinda obsessed with Big News Morgans to the point of making way out there theories about him. Like is he really selfish or is he actually some kind of secret double agent for the revolutionaries? And why does he have one of the few flying ships in the series? Also he’s not a mink so he just keeps his hybrid form up all the time? Safe to say, a lot of questions about him, and this appearance does paint him more as a sensationalist, kinda like a J. Jonah Jameson at his worst. But his empty threats towards Vivi are also pretty endearing. He has no idea how to deal with her and Vivi just steamrolls over him. It’s so great to see Vivi in this light again where she shows what she brought to the Strawhats. She can be diplomatic, sure, like when she made Luffy back down at Drum Island, but she also has a streak of hotheadedness that goes so well with the Strawhats streak of not accepting less than ideal status quo’s. Also speaking of Drum Island we see a Wapol that’s also kinda strangely grown on me. Oda’s got this extraordinary ability to make even the most hateable people incredibly well liked. Anyone remember Boa’s Heel-Face Turn? But getting back to Vivi, she’s just gone through the death of her father and like how the Strawhats were debating after going to her when they saw the headlines at the beginning of Egghead, she also has to consider what the truths are about the egghead situation.
Gosh, a crying Sentomaru rowing away from a broken Egghead just breaks my heart. I hope we see him again and that he gets a good ending. Kizaru here also reminds me of Garp at Marineford as we once again see people’s beliefs clashing with their duty in service of the institution of the World Government. I’m not sure if Kizaru will be redeemed or not but I can see this instance hardening his heart until he sees Lilith and whatever she has planned about the Vegapunk’s not being dead. I’ve also recently gotten into the Like a Dragon series with Yakuza 0 and Kizaru and Akainu’s relationship feels a lot like how the lieutenants there refer to each other as Kyodai and whatnot.
I really love this trio of Jinbei, Zoro and Franky interacting as it shows off all of their personalities. Franky’s always been about positivity so he tries to see the silver lining, highlighting how wild it is that they survived so much. Zoro’s always the one to voice the harsh truths as well as have high expectations for Luffy so he just comes out and says what he’s thinking. And Jinbei framed in the middle also shows off his role as the level-headed one, balancing different perspectives and keeping everyone on the right track.
It’s also really fun to see small moments like this with the crew. Them in a giant’s couch with a giant shield hanging over them and Ussop working away at some Vegapunk tech. A lot of the times Oda uses that diminishing three panel ending to show the passage of time to the next event but in some cases like Luffy telling Sabo and Ace his real dream, Oda uses it to hide what’s happening and being revealed, opting for a more organic reveal in the future.
I believe that’s what happening here too, with Lilith explaining how all the Vegapunk’s are actually alive. At the very least Luffy learns enough to be cheered up enough for that great double spread celebration. One Piece, Oda and many of us, myself included live for these moments in One Piece where they finally get to celebrate after an arc. And with Elbaf looking like the final arc this could be the last time we see such a celebration before the end. I also love the small panel of Zoro being told that Luffy’s back to his normal self. A small moment but it adds so much. Also who could that silhouetted figure be? I feel like there’s three candidates. Starting from the least likely but most obvious, it could be Shanks. The giants were with him before Egghead and it could be that they’re bringing Luffy back to him. It would be a wild start to Elbaf to have Shanks demand the hat back. Two, it could be the prince of the Giants, Loki. This ones a little out of left field but it would make sense for the setting and could be a cool introduction. Though, most likely, the mystery figure is probably Scopper Gaban, the third most important crew member on Roger’s ship after Roger himself and Rayleigh. There’s been a long running theory that points out that Roger’s crew basically divide up Luffy’s journey into equal quarters, with Shanks at the start, Crocus a quarter of the way there, Rayleigh halfway through and now possibly Scopper right before the ending quarter. But regardless of who it is, Elbaf awaits! I can’t wait for this final era of One Piece to begin. It’s kind of bittersweet finally making it this far after it got introduced in Little Garden all the way back. Here’s to a great final arc!

Shy anime review (up to ep 5) Spoilers up to most recent unofficial manga translation (around chap 100) and references to untranslated chapters (up to most recent)
I will say I love the anime. Its very cute, I like the style of editing because it keeps the feel of the manga. I will say the style is okay, what I was expecting, I just urge anime-only to at least check out the first volume because I love Bukimi's style of drawing (its so pretty and would be impossible to replicate for animation),
Since the anime is still early on, all I can really say is how much I can think back upon earlier stuff in relation to "reveals" in the later chapters.
For example, when Stardust tells Pepesha that she is too soft on Teru because Teru reminds her of someone. I completely forgot about it in the mange, but now that I remember, I realize he meant Shine/Mei. I don't think Stardust ever mentions anything regarding Mei every again until a possoble scene in the untranslated chapters, in which there is a flashback with him and Pepesha talking (i won't get into details for spoilers sake).
In episode 5, with the old lady (I already forgot her name I'm so sorry) and Teru. Teru mentions going in because she was reminded of the shop when she saw the mountain, and the lady mentions she used to come with Mei when she was younger. The lady also reveals her husband has since passed from them. The lady wishes she could climb the mountain again like she used to with her husband, which urges Teru to seek Lady Black's help. When I first encountered this scene I thought it was partly to show Teru's caring side despite her reserved and introverted nature. She wants to help people. But I feel this also goes Teru's loss of Mei. Essentially both of them lost someone important to them, Teru going into that shop also acted as a way to remind her of Mei, the mountain (while much more of a deeper connection) represents something similar for the lady. Which could possibly be why Teru was willing to go out of her way to get Lady Black's help. Or I am looking too deep into this lol.
(I also feel this could indicate something about Mei. People rarely went to this local stationary shop probably because it was easier to go to a bigger store. Even when Mei is not being a hero she is still helping those around her (supporting the shop).)
I believe maybe next episode has the fever scene, which I think is the first direct mention of Mei. More specifically the lost of Mei 3 years before canon. I don't think its that relevant until the Shinning Six, so not for a while in the anime. But I wonder if they are going to mention that she was the previous Japanese hero now. I mainly think they might because of all the little easter eggs of her (aka the figurines in Teru's room).
The anime is obviously bringing up some of the errors of the early volumes though. Such as the introduction of random side characters that seem they might have later importance, but generally do not. The calligraphy club being one that is essential not brought up again (spoilers) until the latest untranslated official chapters.
Another issues is kinda the rushing of certain character developments. Mainly Stardust and Lady Black. I've seen some say Pepesha too, but since the entire first arc is significant development for her, I would say no. Introducing her and Teru's relationship is a bit rushed, but as the manga later reveals (untranslated chapters/speculation), they've known each other since before Teru became a hero, which is around 6 months before canon if I remember correctly. As in Pepesha helped Teru "official" become Japan's hero after Shine.
Overall, wonderful anime. Beautiful manga. I just read the most recent unofficial translation chapters and I'm screaming. We are entering the Mei backstory sooooonnnn

for the dvd commentary thing - im not sure if it fits under 500 words or if u can even remember what u were thinking since u wrote it like last year , but the scene in arc 1 chapter 8 where draxum n donnie talk abt sun tzu n mythology n names ?
That is...yes, that's quite a bit longer, about 1300, but lucky for you I'm very narcissist and love talking about my shit. (and nobody else sent one in)
“You’ve read Sun Tzu.” Draxum is just looking at him, with a quirked eyebrow and a small smile on his face. For some reason, Donnie’s face flushes. “Well, yeah.” He looks down. “I’ve always loved reading, and it’s not that long. What, did you know him or something?” “He was a bit before my time.” Okay, he’s actually smiling now. It’s creepy. “But his work is quite illuminating.” “I’m surprised you’ve read it. He was a human, after all. A warring human. Aren’t you against that?” “Only fools believe they have nothing to learn from their opponents.” “So you’ll apply that to a two-thousand-year-old book, but not to modern humans?” Donnie tugs on his cuffs. “You know you missed, like, the entire point Sun Tzu was trying to make, right? His entire philosophy was that using violence is rarely the best way to get what you want and conflicts are better solved diplomatically.” “And he also said that when you do draw your bow, to draw your strongest arrow.” “Yes, but only if-” “Do you not think there have been attempts to address our conflict with the humans diplomatically?” Draxum says shortly. “You think you’ve seen the extent of this war. This has gone on much longer than you. Longer than me, even.”
So that took influence from a podcast I enjoy:
youtube
The whole thing is a fake talk show radio program from a fictional city with sort a sort of surreal-absurdist vibe going on. (one episode depicts a political debate that devolves into an argument over whether the crawdad people would vote for them and one candidate's treatment of the alligator king, for example) Also not the only reference to this podcast in this fic; this is where Tubby Dan's Barbecue and its various trials Bella mentions are from. He actually has a commercial later on in this episode.
I also have not been able to find the exact quote he uses. This guy might just be trolling me. But I figured, Donnie's fifteen, even if it is a fake quote that's the kind of mistake a fifteen-year-old would make.
“I’m just saying-” “No, you will listen to me on this occasion. Look around you, boy. Think of where we are, think of who we are.” “We’re a turtle and a goat-man in your lab. I can’t really look at much else.” The slap takes him by surprise. It doesn’t particularly hurt, but he feels quite confident by now in how far he can push Draxum before he uses physical force, and he hadn’t reached that point. “The Hidden City is under New York City,” Draxum says quietly. “You have more experience with the world above than I do, so let me ask. Does it feel like New York City?” Donnie shakes his head, his cheek still stinging. “Why do you think that is?” “I assumed it was because the Hidden City is a lot older? New York is only about three hundred years old, and almost everything up there was built in the last century,”
(noooo a typo)
(I literally just went back and edited a nearly year-old chapter right now, it's all fixed dw)
But for real, New York is an infant of a city. I know the Hidden City is under New York because the turtles live in New York, they've always lived in New York-but I wanted it to make sense why.
So my idea was that the Hidden City isn't so much under New York, but that New York was built on top of the Hidden City. They weren't even hidden at first-they just fucking lived there, cohabitating with the indigenous Lenape people, (or at the very least they left each other alone) and adapted when Europeans started their colonizing bullshit, gradually moving underground as more humans showed up and clashed with the Yokai, not understanding what they were. (The Lenape and the original colonizers didn't really know either, but there was an understanding of bro just don't ask questions that was gradually lost as more and more people settled there) Part of the reason it became 'gestures to all of New York' is because of the presence of the Yokai and all their nonsense. So basically-the chicken came before the egg, and the Hidden City is that chicken. Or one of them. You can decide whether they did the fucking or laid the egg.
“You are…correct in that observation, yes. The Hidden City is much older.” Draxum glances off to the side. “But think of what is here. Think of where it came from.” “Well, yes, the culture here is heavily East Asian. Even the name Yokai originated in Japan.” “Think about that. Why are so many Yokai from that area? New York is on the other side of this continent. It is not a simple journey.” “I assumed there was some portal.” “There was, but by design. Why did they come here?” “I’ve met Yokai that are definitely European.” “Very few. Think about why that is.” Donnie glances up. “Fewer Yokai in other parts of the world.” “We were actually more widespread in some areas. Why do you think you do not see our brothers and sisters from the Horn of Africa? The Maghreb? From the islands of the great Pacific? They existed, my boy. Ask me why they are not here.” Donnie is silent. Draxum looks over him, his eyes narrowed and cold. “The Hidden City is the last of its kind. There are no other communities like this elsewhere in the world, not anymore. So I will ask you again, boy. Why are there so many Yokai here from Asia? And why are the Yokai of the rest of the world not here?” Donnie remains silent. “Answer me, boy.” “I understand.” “I want you to say it.” “Humans killed them.” Donnie focuses on the ceiling.
Another one of those 'try to make the lore of the fucking ninja turtles show realistic' decisions. I know the reason they're called Yokai and why there's so much East Asian influence is because they are Ninja and this is a show about Ninjas and the writers wanted to harp on that, but it doesn't really make sense from a lore perspective.
I mean, think of where New York is. Pre flying, pre Panama Canal, the Far East and New York couldn't have really been more far apart. To get from Japan to New York by ship, you had to sail across the Pacific, down the west coast of both north and south America, around Cape Horn, back up the east coast all the way from Argentina to the fucking northeastern tip of the United States. Or land in Washington and cross the entire continent on foot. (I know they have portals but that's not the point, okay?) Like, unless there was a really big, heavy traffic natural portal from the Hidden City to Japan it just doesn't make sense for that to be the primarily culture. Especially considering the Crying Titan, canonical father of all Yokai, is under New York. If there was going to be a higher concentration of Yokai in any peoples, it would be the native people of North America. Because that's where the goddamn empyrean is flowing.
But we see pretty much no obvious First Nations influence. We get some East Asian and some European, all under a heavily Americanized umbrella. I mean, yes, they did this because this is a show marketed to American children and that's what's recognizable to them, but still. I needed it to make sense.
And it gave me the perfect frame to hang a blood-soaked backdrop.
“So you do understand.” Donnie presses his lips together. “I don’t think all humans deserve to die for it.” “I don’t think so either.” He must look surprised, because Draxum looks down at him, amused. “What? Deserve is a rather heavy word. I’m not speaking of deserving. I’m speaking of survival. Humans and Yokai cannot coexist. One of us will destroy the other. I do not intend to allow my people to languish in the dark while the humans choke us out.”
This is really the cornerstone of Draxum's beliefs. Yes, he's acting out of hatred and anger, but I didn't want that to be his whole thing. That's not as compelling, and Draxum's intelligent enough to need a concrete reason. And I mean...from his perspective, relations with humans have always gone sour eventually. And his people end up paying the price for that in blood.
“What makes you so sure?” “It has been foretold.” “What, like a prophecy?” “Exactly. There is a prophecy that predicts-” “You haven’t read much Greek literature, have you?” Donnie shifts in his binds. “Oedipus? Cronos? Or are those guys too old for you too? Let’s see, we have the Mahabharata. Macbeth. Sun, Moon, and Talia. Have you read Harry Potter?” “What-” Draxum closes his eyes. “Child, what in the world are you talking about?” “Those are all stories of self-fulfilling prophecies. In every one of those stories, the actions taken to avoid the prophecy cause it to come to fruition. Cronos eats his kids because he was told one of them would overthrow him, but that just makes his kid angry enough to do it. Talia is foretold to be killed by a splinter of flax, so her father bans flax from the house. The first time she sees someone spinning flax, she doesn’t know what it is and pricks her finger due to her curiosity and inexperience.” “...Why would a splinter of flax kill her?” “I always assumed there was some context lost in the translation, because that part never really made sense. Anyway, the point is that trying to prevent the prophecy just made things worse. It likely never would have come true, if people had simply done nothing.”
I'd like to call back to Draxum's speech to the Shredder in the finale. He does his big dramatic betrayal because he realizes that the prophecy foretelling the destruction of the Yokai was not the humans, but Shredder himself.
But he conveniently leaves out his own role in that. Draxum brought the Shredder back. Even before factoring in the orb he gave Big Mama, pulling Karai from her hell dimension, even without the work he did recovering the cursed metal-like, even if the Foot got every piece of armor the could get their hands on without him, they still wouldn't have finished it because Splinter had the last piece. And there's no way Splinter would have allowed it to be taken. Even Draxum couldn't defeat him in combat. The only reason Splinter gave it up was to save his sons-the sons that were shown kicking the Foot's ass all episode. If it was just them, they couldn't have captured the turtles. No Draxum, no Shredder.
Which makes the entirety of Rise a self-fulfilling prophecy in itself. In trying to destroy what he thought was the greatest threat to his people, Draxum created the very thing that could end them.
“No, it would have been a regular prophecy, like Cassandra predicting the fall of Troy.” “So you do know your Greek literature!” Donnie almost smiles at that. “Potentially. But far more likely that the prophecy simply doesn’t come to pass, like the thousands of other prophecies that are forgotten. We only hear about the ones that come true, after all. And from a simply mathematical standpoint, some of them must come true.” “I understand what you’re trying to do, and I understand your point. But you are a child playing at war.”
Yeah, he doesn't have a good answer here. So he just dismisses Donnie's point. Reminds me of my own dad!
“Well, maybe you need a child’s point of view,” Donnie huffs, rolling his eyes. “Have you ever thought maybe you’re too far into this to see what you’re doing?” He expects Draxum to call him names again, but he’s quiet for an uncharacteristic amount of time. Donnie turns his head, seeing Draxum leaning against his desk, a very far-away look in his eyes. “I know I was,” he finally says, so softly Donnie almost doesn’t hear him. “But I realized my mistake. I pulled out of it before it was too late.” He turns back to Donnie. “That’s why you’re here.”
A callback to Cass telling Draxum that the armor would kill him. Because really, Draxum's plan was stupid. He barely knew anything about this armor, the Foot, why they were so willing to give him this power. Yet he didn't ask questions. He didn't do any research. He trusted the Foot-humans, who had no love for his people and no reason to help him. Yet he plunged in. He was so enamored with the dark armor's power, so obsessed and blinded by bloodlust that he didn't stop to think about any of this. Not until Cass basically slapped him across the face and told him to snap out of.
And then he realized. He'd almost died-and died horribly, feeding a leashless monster. That was how lost he was in his bid for power. He had a whole-ass personal crisis before deciding to take up kidnapping as a hobby.
Donnie raises an eyebrow. “Kidnapping me was the less extreme option.” “Correct.” “I mean, yes, kidnapping one turtle isn’t as bad as unleashing a literal demon, but like…you couldn’t have found some middle ground?” “You’re my strongest arrow,” he replies simply. And it feels like someone’s dumped ice water over him. “Don’t be angry. I tried to compromise with you. I would have let you keep your name and your family, but you’re the one who refused to meet me in the middle.” Donnie just looks off to the side. “Think about it.” Draxum approaches his table, reaching out and grasping Donnie’s shackled hand, fingers curling around him like a claw. “You’re going to help me protect Yokai and mutants alike. We will do great work together, and when I lead my people into the sun with you by my side, your name will go down in history.” He does a little smile at that, like it’s a pleasant thought. “You just have to tell me what you want that name to be.”
I was kind of hoping someone would catch onto this. At this point, Draxum is still considering Donnie (or rather, his fantasy son who doesn't have a name yet) to be an accessory to his power. Like yeah, he wants him to be revered and rewarded after the fighting is done, but when the history books are written he'd be a chapter in Draxum's book. The next time he mentions the whole 'lead our people into the sun' thing, he says they'll do it 'side-by-side' because he now considers Galois an equal, and as time goes on he will eventually see himself as the person meant to help Galois on his path and set him up as the true savior of the Yokai.

Hi since Gojo's arc doesnt feel finished and underwhelming do you have any theories on Gojo bouncing back in a new way or in any form since he was smiling when Sukuna praised him even after he got bisected and also from that whole North South talk in the afterlife.Im kind of doubtful as Gojo said that he doesn't have any regrets but he should go in either direction and the plane is waiting to depart.
Hiii!
I actually have no idea what Gege could be thinking and that terrifies me to no end.
I love the idea of Gojo getting another enlightening just like with Toji, when he became "the strongest one alone" and that talk with North and South could very well be in his own mind, not afterlife. (Why I think that everything is happening in his mind is because you can see Tojo's silluete behing Riko in the "afterlife").
He reverted back to his teenage self? Why? Is this because that's when he lost everyone? Obviously Riko and Haibara died when they were teens, but he also lost Nanami after Haibara's death, and he lost Geto after Riko's death (people don't have to die for you to lose them), only one who seems to be the same is Yaga (and Toji's silluete (what's up with that, anyway?)). Is this because of his sentiment? Was this because he had to make a choice, got enlightened, to become a new human when he was teen?
I actually have no idea.
Also him "having fun" and feeling "sorry" for Sukuna is just bullshit, end of story. Who the fuck is this man, cuz I don't know him!
This selfishnes of his strangelly seems like exactly how he was when he was a teen, unlike Geto, he didn't give a fuck about protecting non-sorcerers at that time. It was only after Riko's death that he seemed to value people and their lives.
Gege wants to say that Sstoru doing that 0.2 second Unlimited Void in Shibuya Arc, specifically for non-sorcerers to not become vegitables and brain dead, meant absulutely nothing cuz in Haibara's words "you never cared about keeping sorcery going, or protecting people" <— what the fuck is this???
Satoru wanted his students to surpass him, he wanted to kill Higher Ups for killing Yuuji, for calling for Yuuta and Yuuji's executions and now he never gave a fuck about these children?? His almost son, Megumi? Who he raised for 10 years?
What is this whole chapter, a fever dream?
Also what is this Nanami's "Curses can bring people back to life. The way sorcery can". This two sentence seems out of contest, cuz what follows is exactly that south and north talk — Go north = become new person, go south =stay the same — which is directly followed by Satoru calling out of Yaga about how Yaga thought no sorcerer died without regrets, implying that he himself died with no regrets, so why show the plane then? Why is it departing if everything is decided, okay, sunshine and rainbows? Where is that plane departing, north or south? Why is Gojo hoping that this is not a dream?
(Also Gege drawing Toji in every possible panel is just ridiculous. Why would Toji even be near Satoru and his people?)
I kinda believe that he could awaken again, but would this awaking go? Cuz if he gets awaken he HAS to get even stronger!! Many people seem to hang up on Geto's question "Are you the strongest because you are Gojo Satoru or are you Gojo Satoru cuz you are the strongest?" Which basically means, does your strenght define who you are as a person? (people actually want him to be nerfed!)
To answer that question, yes! Gojo Satoru and the strongest are the same thing and this is why: he was born a Gojo, which means he got both Six Eyes and Infinity in like the last 400 years. There has been Gojos who got both powers at the same time but where they the strongest tho? If they were, someone would have mentioned that! The fact that he is SATORU is what makes him the strongest, his way to think, to adapt, to learn, to push himself to the point where he could use Red, Blue, Purple in the instant, where he could make out a difference between subjects for his infinity to react on instinctual level...
Why do people think that has even been a problem to Satoru? Just because he could never get a good fight because he was strongest? That's why he feels "sorry for Sukuna because he also knows what being strongest is?" — I don't know, does Sukuna seem to have existential crisis on how strong he is? Sukuna praised Jogo for his powers! Jogo, who Gojo dominated in every battle! That guy knows he is strong, the king of curses, and he went and got even stronger ON HIS OWN! HE SPECIFICALLY WENT AND GOT MEGUMI'S BODY AND HIS ABILITIES. Where does he seem to feel sorry for himself?
Why should Gojo Satoru lose his abilities to become Gojo Satoru, I seriously don't get it.
And at the end of the manga Kashimo is "dashing towards near-certain death". How lovely 🤷♀️
P.S. Madara cut Tsunade down in half and she attached her lower part body to her upper one (she couldn't regrow the lost limbs tho, unlike Gojo (she made Naruto the new arm from Hashirama's cells)) — is Gege telling me, Gojo "the prodigy who can master absulutely anything if he tries" Satoru can't heal himself???
If Hakari can have his RCT running outside of his body for like 5 minutes or whatever and is practically immortal, doesn't that imply that he CAN heal EVERY possible demage to himself, including getting cut in half?
P.P.S. I'm so sorry. I don't think I even answered your question at all and just used your question to rant again, I'm sorry 😭
#jujutsu kaisen spoilers#jujutsu kaisen#jjk spoilers#jjk#how can Gojo die when he is paying your bills Gege?#how can you hate your own character so much to simply just massacre his whole personality in few panels?#gojo satoru is alive!#i'm delusional#gojo satoru#we all dreamed gojo's death

Hi! So interesting question! Since luffy has gear 5 already, what will he look like if he had a gear 6? Don’t you think that’s awesome!?
And another question!
What’s your opinion of zoluffy, sanjzoro, or lulaw?
I don’t ship these btw but I respect your opinions!
Hiya @superson1cspeed!
Oda let Luffy unleash the Gear 5th in Wano and this revealed a bunch of stuff. I like this whole concept a lot and there are a few reasons:
In chapter 1044 is said: "The user is said to become the "Warrior of Liberation", bringing joy and freedom to those around them, and this fruit's power being described as "the most ridiculous power in the world". So, this form was literally made for Luffy because he is pretty much the definition of "seeking freedom" and he indeed brings joy for his close ones (except when his shenanigans are too much for his crew mates and they punch him *laughs*). It's a fact that Luffy has saved pretty much each of his crewmember from a bigger turmoil and made them see the good in bad so he truly deserve to become one of the strongest in OP universe.
Then the foreshadowing around this gear is amazing. Skypiea became even more important storywise since there are the first mentions of the Sun God (and other important stuff too such as Robin deciphering poneglyph). But on top of that it's that little silly panel where Luffy dances like there is no tomorrow like he always does and then his little silhouette drawing alongside the bonfire and not only that, also Usopp drumming next to him (just like his heart beats in Gear 5) that was perhaps the biggest hint of this new form which didn't seem to be big but became very crucial. Not only that bur already back in Arlong Park arc as well, we could also ponder whether Luffy rising from the dark and collapsed building while the sun shines on him was intentionally foreshadowing (probably yes because Oda-sensei is the master of hiding hints).
During the Gear 5 the animation/drawing style is nice in general. It seems that this was inspired from the old hand drawn cartoons (such as Tom&Jerry etc.), which is great since in general One Piece has become more and more serious. Of course not all the time, because there are still running gags but compared to the Pre-timeskip time much less. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it just tells that there is so much in the plot that Oda needs to pinch on some stuff. People 'been craving for pre-timeskip shenanigans and this brought back the glimpse of silliness this storywise heavy arc truly needed
What comes to the Gear 6 speculation, it is truly hard to say how Luffy will look like when he masters it but at least it is possible that this will be revealed in the final arc, perhaps in the final battle. My guess is that he'll face something incredibly strong (probably Blackbeard since they met in Jaya and Blackbeard has been active part of the plot but Oda-sensei can surprise us though). Perhaps the battle will push the whole crew to it physical and mental limits (just like Ace's death pushed Luffy to the edge) and therefore it awakens. Let's hope Oda keeps this drawing style in future too.
What comes to the second question, I'm not shipping Luffy with anyone currently. More thoughts written in following posts: Random ponders about Luffy and romance and Who do you ship Luffy with (ask) but although I do enjoy him interacting with his friends, I can't imagine him falling in love in canon.
I actually did ship Luffy and Vivi short time during Alabasta and still think they could have at least a little potential but in general, I think Luffy views his nakamaships very platonically and he seems to treat his crew mates pretty equally (showing physical affection such as hugging openly and driving them crazy at times with his randomness). No idea how much he has heard about birds and bees when he was a kid (well he spent time with grown up pirates so maybe some) but it seems he doesn't show much open interest to those stuff in general (in my opinion).
Well, there has been times such as in Alabasta when Nami tossed the Shiawase Punch and the guys reacted and then again he didn't turn into stone when Hancock used Mero Mero Mellow. Oda gave us the answer in SBS volume 54 and replied pretty simply: reacting alone and going nosebleed and stuff would be out of character for Luffy and earlier when he saw Nami's bare body, he was accompanied by Usopp and took probably influence from him (just like in anime Chopper also had a nosebleed or other reactions seeing it all despite him being the most innocent character in One Piece [x]).
So, it's pretty hard to say who would Luffy fall in love with since his potential crush could be also someone not inside the crew (such as Vivi, Hancock or after the Film Red Uta). What's even more ironical, that Luffy has pretty much gathered a "harem of princesses" although he hasn't even tried to charm her. They just like his charm and get well along with him. Oda even drew Reiju sucking poison out of him and that's probably most "intimate" and close he has ever been to opposite sex so far.
Like written previously, I think it's Luffy's carefree nature and hunger for adventure what makes me think of why he'd enjoy being "single and free", One Piece is after all all about chasing dreams and especially for Luffy, finding the ultimate freedom. Well relationship doesn't necessarily mean he'd have to give up on everything but it would sure mean to do some compromises. So in conclusion: Luffy might find the love of his life later or he will enjoy being single.
What comes comes to ZoSan/SanZo, I kinda see them as well more as good friends than lovers but this opinion might be heavily influenced on me being shipping Sanji x Nami and Zoro x Robin ever since the pre-timeskip-time. Since shipping is all about liking two character's chemistries and searching for clues in the story that could support it, I think we all readers can look for our preferences.
Although I don't ship Luffy with anyone (except meat, because MeatLoaf is life *laughs*) I don't honestly have anything against anyone shipping any character with someone as long as the shipping stays respectful (not bashing others and intentionally bullying others, that's toxic :s ). Also, even if the story didn't end up the way we wanted, there is always a possibility to imagine the ending one wants, that's why we fans are able to make stuff, for fellow fans to enjoy whatever they like ;)

Season of Mists Reread Ch. 6
So I'm currently rereading Season of Mists and blogging about the clues I'm seeing. You can see the previous posts here:
Prologue/Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5 Bonus: At Death's Door
But on with this latest analysis! At this point, the story is starting to wrap up, and we get the showdown between Morpheus and Azazel. I saw an excellent post on the showdown itself, so I won't go into all that here. But as I read through things looking for clues to the nature of Dream and also foreshadowing, I did spot a few.
On Dream
For one, it's confirmed that Morpheus/Dream doesn't sleep:
He's a bit of a hoarder who likes to store things in his personal pirate chest. The contents of this were also discussed on that Azazel-battle thread, so I won't go into it just yet.
And we see a bit more of how different folks' perceptions of his aspect works as he rescues Nada. In the panels right before this mouth opens, we see the Morpheus we're all familiar with. As soon as Nada can see him, he changes into Kai'kul. And then he's back to his "usual" appearance once she's safe and he's out of her line of sight. I think this is mostly for our benefit as we can only see one drawing of him at a time. But I would now hazard a guess that to all the dignitaries gathered in his throne room, they would each see him as they might have seen him when they are alone. (But who would Bast see?) I think we default to the Reader's perspective of his aspect unless only one other character is viewing him who might have a different perspective. (since we are a character in the story)
On Dream's relationship to his realm
We learn that aside from controlling the weather of the Dreaming, he has complete control over whether it's day or night. If you were wondering how he possibly met with everyone in such a short time, it's because he didn't let the sun rise.
This fancy ceiling room that has been discussed at length is apparently also his throne room?? Or did he move it here from where it was the night before for convenience? In any case, things shifted. The throne now seems simpler than the last we saw it with the Egyptian motifs, but the green drapes remain. His dais is still close to the ground as it was the night before, but much lower than in previous story arcs/issues.
And his castle sits at the Heart of the Dreaming. It is not only his home, but his place of power. He has complete control over reality: "It is what I wish it to be – no more, no less."
On the Plot
Now let's look at the clues to the over-arching plot of the whole Sandman run. I found a few of interest that I didn't notice before.
Aside from Loki seemingly distraught to be leaving at the end and trying to get away from Thor, we get this one small detail within the title page spread that I totally missed the first time:
Meanwhile, Nuala overhears Merlin commenting on the Greek gods not coming. I think this works as a story point on 2 levels: I suspect it ties into larger DC continuity knowing that Wonder Woman's comics regularly show them. But it also works in isolation since it seems they don't tend to get on well with Morpheus from what we've seen of the Calliope story. Or it might just be setting the stage for that relationship if I'm misremembering when we learn things from my first read-through.
And then finally we have that pirate trunk panel mentioned above. I'll add it here again for reference:
In it, we've got the Corinthian's skull, Ornament-Azazel, a ring, another ornament-like bulb (or is it a grenade?? hard to tell), a leather book that is buckled shut, a city in a glass bottle, a penny, and 2 canisters in the background. It'll be interesting to see which of these comes up again. Corinthian we know about. I already know now what the bottle represents, but am wondering if/when I've seen the others.
And that's that! I'd like to do another wrap-up post on the ceiling and once I get to the end of Season of Mists, I'm tempted to do a master post on all the changes Morpheus' castle goes through in just these issues alone. Lots to dissect here. :D
#season of mists reread#lord morpheus#sandman meta#sandman comic spoilers#I seriously love season of mists so much#I didn't comment on it above but one of my favorite pages is how Duma just slowly lowers himself to the ground in the background#but beautiful art and storytelling all around
