Surprise!!!

Ahoy, mateys! So, I know I said I was going on hiatus, but I just so happen to have finished something recently -- something that's been in the works for quite some time. 😁

For those who aren't aware, or who need a refresher, my original character "Sailor Girl" looks like this:

When she's drawn in pencil, that is. But now...feast yer eyes on the brand-spankin'-new Sailor Girl, in all her digital glory!!!

I figured it was about time I give one of my own brainchildren the digital treatment (one of the human ones, that is), and now here she finally is! I might be a little biased as her creator, but...ain't she lovely? 😊

I didn't really have any context in mind for this picture; it's basically meant to portray her passion for sailing and the joy of being surrounded by the beauty and wonder of the sea. I haven't had this experience myself, sad to say, but I can easily imagine that the sight, sound, and overall atmosphere (and perhaps even the smell) make it a very unique one. I may have to put that on my bucket list, in fact.

Come to think of it, I should probably make one. 😄

But in case it wasn't obvious, the bright, eager smile on Sailor Girl's face is meant to portray an excitement and an appreciation that say, "The sea is lookin' as fine as it ever has, and I'm here to see it for meself!" Or perhaps something like, "This is where I was meant to be, right here, right now!" In other words, she's in her element, and she couldn't be happier about it. Moments like that don't come every day, but when they do, I believe they're very picture-worthy, both in real life and in fiction. 😌

As you can see, I did some experimenting with some of Krita's fancy paintbrushes and drawing tools. The bright shading of the sky near the horizon, the different colors, shades, and patterns of the clouds, the ripples on the water, the patterns of the wood on the ship's hull, railing, and bowsprit, and the wrinkles of its sail were all modeled after an image created by the artist sauronlivez, entitled Trouble off the Port Bow:

Obviously, I still need some practice with those paintbrushes before I can create anything truly realistic with them, but I love how well they let me capture the beautiful colors and patterns of the cloudy sky, the darker clouds on the horizon, the shimmer of the sea, the blotchy dark patches on the ship, and the fancy wrinkles on the sail (again, not perfectly, but closely enough for now).

Then there's Sailor Girl herself. Her body position came from a screenshot of Ariel in The Little Mermaid:

You can practically hear the song she's singing just by looking at it, can't you? 😊

The joy and excitement of this scene is what I attempted to capture in Sailor Girl's facial expression, with the light of the sun reflected on her wide-open eyes and her huge grin. Some waves in the background might have added a little to that atmosphere, now that I think about it, but I think her expression and the wind in her hair (which I really enjoyed drawing, by the way) convey it well enough. I guess that's up to you as the viewer, though. 😉

Oh, and as with all with my OCs, I do have a story in mind for this spry, young lass (and a proper name, of course), but for now, I hope you enjoy this still image of a bright moment in her life.

Again....please let's all vote these clowns OUT come November 5th and I recommend MAIL IN BALLOTS! And if you do Mail In Ballots PLEASE distribute them at the USPS Mail Posting Office so NO MAGA will try any nonsense.
