the waves by virginia woolf finally a book that isnt gay JUST KIDDING it is in fact also a lil gay but mostly it's just fucking beautiful. possibly the most beautiful novel i've ever read idk, hard to say and its not a quick read but like. read it for the first time in high school and have returned to it a number of times since then and. her prose my GOD. its a novel but also a poem, just a very long love poem to .... everything ....

fun home by alison bechdel technically it's a gRapHiC nOvEL and i only read it for the first time about a year ago but. have reread it since and it continues to haunt me istg this memoir is STUNNING the most gorgeous graphic novel & most gorgeous memoir i have ever ever encountered. an actually brilliant piece of literature in every right. makes me sob. (also, yes, it is very gay.)

work (and also just. everything) sucked today wough. rlly rlly long vent under cut ig

tbh we shouldnt have even been open its a fucking holiday. it wasnt even that busy all things considered, but we were wildly understaffed (there was literally 5 of us in the entire arcade. which is the minimum we need to function. so already Not Good) and i was exhausted after staying up late last night. so i get there 20mins early, stop n chat with the person on dark ride (bc hes super nice and rlly good to talk to and i like working w him. he went home when i clocked in tho), and im having a decent day at that point. we had taken down the christmas stuff in the morning and toast had been extra vicious bc ig she wanted to play w all the ornaments n shit, but anyways. i kill time, then drop my shit under the golf shack counter and clock in. i havent even been in redemption for 2 minutes when one guy is like 'hey [person at laser tag] wants to know if youll head over to laser tag' and im like 'yeah okay' and i go over there and that person is going on her break. and the other person that was on laser tag swaps to dark ride. so im by myself, which isnt allowed, we have to have 2 people on laser tag at all times. so that... wasnt great. the other person thats supposed to be at laser tag was a few minutes late, but they were there in time for me to run the game that needed to start. so we're doing fine, we're alternating games, and then im like 'hey, im gonna take over dark ride when their shift over there is up' and the person with me just looks at me. and now im getting nervous like i fucked up. and they say to me 'well whos gonna be on laser tag then' and IM CONFUSED bc they were scheduled for laser tag and i dont understand what they mean. so i responded 'arent u scheduled over here' and they say 'yeah but i was gonna go to redemption with [person who had asked for me to come to laser tag] after her break'

and at that moment. im like. oh. we're gonna play musical shifts bc you two wanna work together. got it. so i dont argue it anymore bc i have a game to run and we cant discuss it anymore at that time. after i came out of that game, the guy who was on dark ride swapped with the person who was on break, and he went to redemption. so im still at laser tag with the same person. and we go back to our alternating games and talking shit abt the schedule bc HOLY FUCK. we cant be doing this with only 5 people. anyways, we do that for a while and then the person on dark ride asks if i can close it tonight. and im like yeah okay, i hate doing it but i can if i need to. and then instead of waiting until closer to 8 so im only there an hour, the guy that had started at laser tag comes back and asks me to head to dark ride at 630. so the person at dark ride goes to redemption, that guy goes back to laser tag, and everyone is technically where they were scheduled to begin with (dark ride is a 'you sign up for a shift during whatever ur scheduled for' so with me being technically scheduled for redemption i was also kinda supposed to swap out for dark ride at some point). and i hatehatehate dark ride. its loud. i need my earplugs in order to be near it. thankfully i usually have them, so i was okay, but i was running it for 2 and a half hours. 630 to 9, and we close at 9. it didnt go awfully, everyone that came thru was rlly nice and it was fairly chill. but then closing happened. now, one of the 5 people that were in arcade was one of the leads. i love her dearly, shes awesome, but she was scheduled to get off at 9, so she didnt help w closing stuff.

so the 4 of us remaining closed the whole arcade. i did all of dark ride's stuff, and gathered all of the arcade trash. and therein lies the biggest source of holy fuck i cried. because. not only is that like, 10 trashcans, but i kept running out of trashbags. so the first trashcan, it had soda in the bottom. no big deal, i just have to go dump it out and clean it (running a bit of water w soap into it and swooshing it around, and then drying it with a rag). okay, great. i get that, get thru a few more cans, and have to wash out another. the second one, i accidentally get some of the icky cleaner-water on my jeans and one of my shoes (my favorite sunflower slip-on vans). so that rlly just. put me right on the edge of my breaking point. i get thru the rest of arcade's trash EXCEPT for laser tag, and i run out of trashbags. all of them. and im like well what the fuck do i do now. so i ask the manager thats supposed to be closing us out (i like him, hes nice), and hes like 'go see if [place over by bowling area] has some'. so i go take 3 of their 4 remaining trashbags (had to grab one for the person who was cleaning the bowling area, she needed one), and take my 2 to laser tag to get their trash. lo and behold, a third trashcan i have to clean. im fucking DONE at this point. i cant do it anymore. my eyes start watering, im stomping into the kitchen to go clean it, the manager comes in and is grabbing something and i just. id started ranting out loud and tbh i dont think he minded i think he understood why but i was just like 'im done im quitting i cant do this anymore. i cant do it. today fucking sucked im done i cant do this' and then i started crying. the first time, anyway. hes nice abt it and he just gently asks me to turn the lights off when i leave the kitchen and its FINE its GREAT i take the now-clean trashcan back to the laser tag area and go to take the trash to the compacter. and man. there is a bigass pile of bags and boxes in front of the garage door where the compacter is. so i open the door to dump the trash in, and wow. the compacter is full. and not working. so i cant do anything. i go back, ask the manager, he says to just leave the trashbags on the pile and bring the big trashcan back to where it goes. so i do. and im upset and im done and im holding it in and he comes over to dark ride while im grabbing my bag and the walkie and he asks 'are you okay ?' and i just. snapped. i wish i hadnt said it the way i did but i just went 'no !' and the tears started up again. i was full-on fucking SOBBING at work. the person id been at laser tag with, one of my favorite people, she comes up to me bc im heading into redemption to put the walkie away, and she asks whats up and walks with me and lets me vent at her for a minute, and on the way out she stopped me and told me to breathe and talked me thru most of the tears and hyperventilating enough for me to talk clearly again. she hugged me and just let me cry for a sec and then made double sure i was okay to drive, and then we parted ways at the door. i headed to walmart cos i had to get stuff for my car (gotta change my oil this weekend), and walking around helped. i got a snack and things were alright for a while.

yeah. something else had to go wrong. abt 15 mins out i got a fucking flat tire. i live an hour from work. i was 45 minutes from home. and i stop, i look at the tire, yep its flat, and get back in the car to call dad. no answer. call mom, she answers. i apologized for waking her up, told her i had a flat, and she woke dad up to come take a look. she talked to me for the whole 45 minutes it took him to get to me. i ate my snack, told her abt work, and finally dad showed up. i let mom go back to sleep, and he looked at my tire, and yeah. it was unfixable, at least in the dark. hes gonna have to go rescue my car and take it to get new tires tomorrow (technically, today. all the car shit went down at 11pm. its currently about 130am). we just got all my important stuff out and locked it, and left it where it was bc we couldnt fix my tire. he drove me home, and here we are. im exhausted, im gonna sleep in tomorrow, and im gonna try to have a chill day. i cannot take another thing going wrong right now.

you know the episode where annabelle tells martin about the hole in hilltop road and before that she does this funny thing of telling him that the og plan was to fill him w/ spiders? their roles in the au is kinda like that... by which i mean: you have two options, the supposed "first option" being so terrible it makes the second, the only real, "option", seem much better in contrast

in this case its a little more abstract. you have the two, contrasting figures of Annabelle, the so called spider lady, this menacing presence at the edge of everybody's consciousness for two seasons... and then you have Martin, the sad friend who lost nearly everything and almost drowned in the lonely. The more intimidating the concept of Annabelle is, the more she's in the spotlight as a villain, the less they notice the occasional incongruity in Martin's story. the more dissimilar they seem, the more illogical it would be for them to be in cahoots... you catch my drift

in this au martin is the one who brings the idea of hilltop road, omitting a few key details, and bc its him they dont have any reason to distrust it

at least at first, but thats a story for another post, bc boy it gets ugly

Anyway... i touched some of their characterization here but basically this dual narrative serves for their peace of mind as well. Martin can forget that he's manipulating the people he loves (and that he helped end the world) if Annabelle is The Villain, while Annabelle can sidestep her own tragedy if Martin is the most miserable fucking guy around

(But some of their roles are exchangeable baby! dont you ever forget it!!!)

also this doesnt stop annabelle from egging him to be baddies together from time to time for funzies or for martin (who still has some minor traces of the lonely) to say some hurtful things bc really, her story is pretty sad, but they quickly shake the other off

FIHJDBFIDHFBF OH MY GOF DUDE IHDSF im losing my BIUND RIHEBFSF AHB FH the thMETHEM THEM osjfnsd this is so much angsiter than what i would have expected for a cover but also it SUTIS THE FIC PERFECTLY AHAHHA oh ym god i love the dichotmy here hdir the way her mask splits across her face as her identities bleed into each other, the way she intentionally covers her eyes, purposefully shrouding chat’s identity in myster because no matter what, she CANT EVER KNWO omg,,, and the way that choice casts him in such a stark light, completely covering the context for everything he does and obscuring so much... the like, imposing silhouette looming over mari is totally not what i would have guessed but it honestly feels like we’re seeing him from his own perspevtive?? like the guilt of all his selfish acts as he desperately yearns to be near her,  craves her presence but forces himself to keep some distance... and the way he feels knowing hes just confusing her and making things worse by getting closer to her as chat noir,, but being unable to help it because he misses her and wants to be there for her in impossible ways sdlhif buit no matter how much it hurts, no matter how frustrating the situation is, hell always be there to offer what comfort and protection he can,,,, god thje UMBRELLA RUAIBNFHIBFBDHF DS AAHHH also like??? i havent even touched on the technical aspect of this bc i was so blown away by like, the symbolism at work here but HELLO dude i love your shading technique so much, it looks sort of simple at a glance but then you look closer and you see how many layers of color youre using to imply depth and highlights and it honestly looks sick as hell. i always sort of struggle with that sort of painterly style of coloring, i always accidentally make things look way to blendy and gross but each one of your brushstrokes adds to the depth of the peice so much its really cool to see! also sijhfbs i love the choice of texture brushes you used for each material, the smaller dots of the shirt really imply a sort of softness that contrasts with the larger grain of the cardigan, like its still soft, but a little bulkier fabric maybe? (oh! just noticed this but thats on the scarf too! nice) and then the blocky shape of the pattern you used on the suit totally calls to mind the mesh of their costumes and just riaisdhbfsdhfb RUSABHF im sorry gfor like saying all the random quiet bits of tech you used im sure that feels some sort of way but seriously this looks so cool i wanna pick apart your process with like pliers or somethgins;ijfhbsfd /pos/pos/pos/pos okay sorry that got way longer and more rabid than i meant it to genuinely i just wanted to gush a lil about some sick art but i sort of went insane for a second shrug hsdfhjsdf

buttttttt- i am here to combat the chaos with some wholesomeness

so post recall- i like to think the heroes who do return end up developing different rituals with each other

like i always adore the idea of hana investing her time in the older heroes to try and learn as much as she can. like doing target training with hanzo and respectively talking in their own native tongues. she still teases him for whatever social mess he has gotten himself into that week of course, she is mischievous by nature but holds a huge deal of respect for him too!!! she would invest a lot of time earning his respect and company and i think she would be very interested in the dragons themselves!!

i could imagine her comparing the dragons to her meka, (because she would carry that level fondness and admiration for it!!!) shes like oh theyre just like tokki!! and hanzo just deadpans like respectfully your technological contraption is not way comparable to the divinity and history held by the dragons

whilst the dragons themselves i think they would simply be amused, like hanzo desperately trying to defend their honour and they r like no no, technically she has a point, they would totally have a soft spot for her

i also think hanzo would eventually carry a similar fondness for her too!!! like the different perspective that hana can give! he knows the life they live can be tough and unforgiving and yet she still takes the next day in her stride. some part of it probably worries him as it’s an uncomfortable reminder to how playful kiriko and genji were when they were all younger and how he couldnt of stopped what had happened to them but he never /ever/ would doubt her capability. he’s not that kinda person!

it would totally help loosen him up too, like i could see him only taking part in like self enjoyment very briefly thinking it’s frivolous and time could be spent elsewhere but one night when they had originally scheduled training but maybe something comes up (honestly with all the trans headcannons the idea of hana dealing with menstrual stuff and hanzo being like oh shit yeah lets change plans is a big slay actually.)

so they sneak off of base, this is how hana learns how sneaky he can truly be and he teaches her a thing or too, and head into more central gibratlar and they go find a late night food place/arcade (hana would obviously know the best spots) and they eat the like best worst takeaway food and play games in a quiet arcade and its our favourite causal intimacy (who cheered!!! and all platonic ofc if that was not clear)

but it’s a very fond memory and hanzo is like okay maybe sometimes he does need enrichment outside of his enclosure u know haha

BUT YEAHHH!!!! I wholly agree and enjoy the idea of all the characters interacting on day to day basis. Makes me happy. They all do their part and take turns with the grocery runs, kitchen duty, and tending to the community garden. One big misfit family :>

Hana does contribute when she’s not in her room streaming. As for the older heroes, she definitively respects a certain few like Ana and Rein haha.

With Hanzo, I think their relationship was actually pretty rocky at the start. They def butted heads a lot bc both are such leader types. Hana thought he was way too old-fashioned and overbearing while he thought she was too naive and reckless. I do love the voiceline of her putting Hanzo in his place the most.

But over time, seeing the other sides of the other helped their assumptions change. Hana begins to appreciate Hanzo’s tactical plans because it always gives her an easy escape route whenever she gets overwhelmed by enemies. He admires her vital spirit and always willing to sacrifice her mech for the team. Eventually it turns into Hanzo giving her shooting tips at the training range and Hana challenging him to spicy noodle eating competitions. I hc Hanzo is a polygot and knows Korean and Mandarin (learned it for business). Hanzo whips it out whenever he wants to motivate her or when she’s feeling homesick and can’t call her dad. Hana on the other hand can sense when he is about to ruminate and drags him to one of her streams. He backseats game the whole time, but he is just so deadpan funny, the chat adores him so she lets it slide. She even has a Hanzo unimpressed emote.

Oh yes, Hana absolutely is interested in the dragons. While she thinks the kitsune is Cute, the dragons are just way Cooler. Imagine Hanzo trying to explain all the grueling hours of training he did in order to harness the dragon’s power and control them at will, while they are just nuzzling up to a giggly Hana. He sighs. I can definitely see the dragons sunbathing on top of Tokki on a nice day 😂😂😂

Once there is that mutual respect, Hanzo wouldn’t dare to think she is in incapable at anything. Like you said, he would often be reminded of Genji’s and Kiriko’s youthfulness, so the Older Brother comes out occasionally. But she is different to them because she is so headstrong and knows who she is fighting for. And Hana always comes to him when she wants a serious, no bullshit answer because others tend to walk on eggshells with her due to her celebrity status. She counts on him to be the realist to her idealism.

YEAHHHHH, Hanzo knows what’s up and they sneak off on a hovercycle that he hotwires. Hana comments saying she didn’t know he knew how to ride one of these. While Hanzo just smirks, he has many secrets that only few are worthy of being privy to.

They eat and play at the arcade, casual platonic friendship at it’s best!!! Hana beats his ass at all the games, but he is a worthy opponent. Hanzo def is an expert at those crane games tho, and gets her the pinkest plush they have. Hana gets him those tacky orange sunglasses. It’s a warm pleasant memory for the both of them.

Firstly, not weird at all, nice to know I’m not *entirely* screaming into the void.

Honetly the Spider Rider’s ages have always baffled the heck out of me. When I watched it the first time I just sort of, assumed ages for all the character cause it’s not like they ever actually *gave* ages to them in the show. It’s all just vague ‘these are teens’ and ‘these characters are adults of some age’ So me being, about 15 when it aired, I was around their ages so I just, came up with my own ages for everyone that made sense to me.

I always did assume everyone (Sparkle aside) was within the range of “teenager”; the ages I had, assumed everyone to be was, Igneous and Magama being the oldest, probably around 17/18, then Corona and Aqune being about 15, Hunter 14, Lumen like, 12-13 and Sparkle bringing up the rear at like, idk, under 10? Probably?

And then I remember at some point coming across their actual ages, I think it was on like, an official website or something(maybe it was a thing on Teletoon’s website??)?? and being so confused cause they were, way off what I assumed they were(or at least some of them were)? 

So when I found the thing that listed some of the “actual” ages (like Hunter being 11 as well as Corona) and mine were off I was, so baffled. Like, ain’t no way they’re 11. (also this is doubly confusing b/c in the BOOKS the series was based off of, Hunter is 13. Which makes more sense imo.

I got way off track I think but, idk, maybe sub!Igneous just had his voice drop sooner and it got really deep. It happens, probably. It’s still really funny tho cause I forgot who his va was so I was NOT expecting it haha.

In Supersons we see a couple of kids that are implied to be Damian and Jon's children and the boy has laser eyes and can fly, so I asume he's not adopted. The girl, who calls Bruce grandpa, can also fly, btw. So it's canon (probably by accident) that Jon can have kids and he must have married one of Bruce's kids.
