E6 Scene 5 - Lost Day 2: Cooperation

Oh shit this one got long.

Having solved the water problem, the boys need food. Also, Kinn needs to fucking unbend a little, but on that note I need to take a moment to admire what is literally a single second of screen time here because Mile is such a gift.

You're in love, you sap, just get used to it.

One theme I keep coming back to in these notes is the need to get on a similar level. They start out from wildly different places. They're attracted to each other, they want a relationship, but outside of that night at Hum Bar, they haven't gotten to see much of each other as their real selves. They need this set-apart time to negotiate an equitable way to relate.

Kinn has spent his entire life in what is essentially a prison, but it's a prison that comes with a lot of money, status, and guns. The purpose of Hum Bar and the purpose of this forest interlude is to remove those weights from the balance, so the two of them are on an equal footing for connection-building moments. Once the connection is in place, it can withstand life in the Panopticon (where the plot happens), but it has to be created outside of it.

Given the damage done to that connection in the previous episode, they need to do some work before they can move forward. They have to be free to bicker, shove, and call each other a moron without risk of consequences, to trust each other when it's just the two of them before they can do it surrounded by enemies.

They manage to catch some fish.

"Why do you keep your smiles to yourself?" (Oh no, my heart.) He's right, though; up to this point we've hardly ever seen Kinn smile. It's a largely teasing exchange, but it acknowledges how deeply unhappy Kinn is with his life, how much of a facade he maintains. Porsche is finally getting to see more of the real Kinn here, and he's clearly liking that.

(Porsche is a much less guarded character than Kinn; to the extent that he maintains a facade of his own, he uses humor. That doesn't mean that he doesn't have things he keeps back, though.)

A bracing stream bath is in order, which rapidly turns into stream cuddling and then stream kissing. They might not have actually invented onscreen chemistry but they do a damn fine job of it. Very interesting how Kinn breaks off then; they've made progress, but there's still a lot that needs to be said.

Really with the dick size thing, you two literally had sex, were you not paying attention? Back to connection-building with personal information.

This exchange is so, so interesting to me. Porsche's dream is all about personal freedom--to do what he wants, when he wants. This makes sense given both his character themes and his actual history, a life spent in the dual constraints of poverty and responsibility. (Plus one of his frequent minor themes, food. You will never convince me that he hasn't skipped a lot of meals so that Chay wouldn't lack something.)

Porsche's dream has sad implications about the material circumstances of his life; Kinn's side of the conversation does the same for his emotional circumstances.

(This scene is where my love-to-hate-him of Korn achieved self-sustaining fusion for the degree of calculation involved. We see this from him long before we see Gun's more obvious kind of abuse. Given the sliding scale of morality employed by the show, I find it interesting that this is underlined as the worst type of evil.)

Love Porsche here, by the way, for not letting Kinn dodge the question. "If you don't tell me yours, it's not fair"; we are back to the need for equity, for balance.

(They have a pattern of doing things wrong, figuring that out and trying over again. Probably why I find them a compelling ship; they're so stubborn about not giving each other up.)

After the lightening musical interlude, the conversation takes a turn for the truly serious, with Kinn talking about Khun, and then Porsche the accident. We are deep in the connection-building zone now, a layer below dreams and into things that neither of them shares with... maybe anyone, ever.

And then:

"If I could, I would want to erase the things I did you wrong."

(Now that I think about it, Kinn does this more than once. They'll have an exchange that's 50/50 teasing/serious, there's a pause, and then he takes it up a level. Kind of astonishing, given his lack of healthy communication models.)

It's not a complete apology, but it's the first essential step, the acknowledgement of harm. Porsche is so not prepared for this; his body language is all over the place, barely any eye contact, wants to just skate past the whole thing for the moment.

Still; a big step forward.

What we learned:

Porsche is marginally better equipped for this situation than Kinn. Marginally.

Porsche is afraid of ghosts.

Sometimes Kinn wonders if Khun is faking his mental instability

Porsche has a period of amnesia around the car accident that killed his parents, and spent months in the hospital (since there was no car accident, we are left to speculate as to what actually caused his memory loss and also who was taking care of baby Chay? Thee? Ugh.)

New obsession: Godly Travelers

Okay so the Genshin rabbit hole is deep and I know I'm not the first to explore this but OH, I LOVE IT. I've been devouring genshin fics and everytime I see these things I go a lil feral

Immortal traveler who's seen millions of worlds, who's role is to witness stories and remember - it's why they were created. To travel, to witness, to tell those stories

Celestial body metaphors ARE THE SHIT: Tell me how Aether is a comet and Lumine is a star or how Lumine is the night and Aether is the sun, how they're never one without the other until they are - so the only constant universe they know is disrupted. How they've orbited each other for so long, and now they're wild and lost in a world they cannot leave.

unhealthy sibling codependence? Yep.

A traveler who cannot stay in one place. Yes, they're looking for their sibling but also, staying in one place makes the scars where their wings once were ache. Familiarity scares them. Attachment scares them. How can they be impartial witnesses once they care (but they do. They care. They don't have their sibling who they shower all their affections on, but they do have these people - these kind, wild, heartfelt people).

Tell me about this character who's eyes burn straight through the archon's soul. Who's skills and prowess impress but also terrify all who meet them. Because they may look like they belong but the world screams otherwise. Who else can carry the power of the gods but one who seeks to burn the heavens.

I want dangerous traveler - a part of them lives to fight. There is no innocence here, there's a chosen kindness.

And then give me a traveler torn in two. They want to find their twin and leave this world. They want all their friends to meet their other half. They never want to leave. They need to leave immediately. They've learned love from these people and that terrifies them. They want to attend every birthday party and festival. They know they will watch these people age and die.

They cannot fall in love, they cannot get attached, they will outlive all of these beings. That is the fate of the traveler: it doesn't matter if they choose to stay, they have to move on eventually. They have to.

But maybe for a moment that doesn't matter. Maybe they allow themselves to pretend otherwise, just for a little while... maybe they can pretend just for a little bit...

But they cannot hide the scars where their wings were or the call of the sky. They cannot fight the itch to run or explore. They cannot stop yearning for a fight - a good fight. A challenge. They cannot stop remembering.

They're both hurt by each other's actions, they're both suffering and dealing with their grief in their own way. Clara lashes out in response to being hurt, meanwhile Phil just stays silent and keeps to himself, not uttering a single word as he lets himself register what has been done.

They're both good, but also both in the wrong. Just unfortunate events, and unfortunate timing. And to clear and add things up:

Clara has no relation to Phil (Springtrap), they've only known each other for a short period amount of time (which means they aren't married or any of that)

That also doesn't mean they weren't friends during this though, but unfortunate things happen. A lot more than people would want, so their relationship is very rocky and bad, as for now.

Clara and Phil have a potential of getting together, but it isn't guaranteed. Nonetheless they care a lot about each other and act like a sweet old couple, with occasional teasing the other here and there, but it's all in good fun

Both have lost someone during this.

They'll still remain friends later in the story, their relationship isn't tainted forever

Both fought each other during this, the only sign of it happening is Clara's subtle bruises on her face in the panel. Phil can manage himself just fine, however Clara is just human. (?)

a lil scenario occured while i was putting the family together, learning their quirks and how they interact with each other - an entire mess XD

If Damien was JUST as codependent on Danny as Danny is about Damien.

That sort of sweet toxic family dynamic where Damien sees Danny as the — obviously physically young — child he is and thus being incapable of many things, or of anything, because he’s a child. So he’s often taking control of Danny’s actions and where he should go and be.

I’m thinking an unintentional Mother Gothel.

Danny for his part has been damaged so much for so long. From one breaking point to another. So to have someone obviously care for him? After everything he had to endure? He’s not going to care how toxic it is because he can’t even see how toxic it is.

So here they are, feeding into one another’s toxicity.

And if someone tries to stop them from doing that? Damien will revert to his earlier days, all sharp points and bitter sneers and crushing swift violence, because he will not have his little brother taken from him. Never again.

Danny on the other hand just falls apart, because he has someone who cares for him, who treats him so gentle and as if he were a fragile thing. He is loved and someone is trying to take that security from him. He spirals back to the emptiness, to the days where he was not allowed to feel and be human. Just a doll on display, to give and never to take.

And being that Danny is just a kid, just a baby practically, and a damaged one at that, maybe the wariness others feel will fall more onto Damien seeing as he’s older and should know better. They see parts of him they are not comfortable with, parts of himself he had tucked and hid away because even if he wasn’t really conscious about it, Damien was adapting and playing the role that the Wayne’s and others wanted him to play. Now they are seeing that his teachings never really faded, he was just better at hiding it.

He is marred in black, and he only washed it with dirty whites to make them feel better.

And for Damien who sees that wariness, he’ll become even further dependent on Danny, his little brother who reaches for him for affection and safety, who knows and doesn’t ever mind the amount of lives that he had taken and what he does even still to this day.

Here's a little double the trauma for the price of one story for you folks.

So basically Danny got captured by the GIW and was experimented on / tortured until he died and was reincarnated as Danyal Al Ghul. He attempts to adapt to his grandfather's teachings but just can't get behind them unlike his older brother. This culminates in Danny getting caught trying to help an injured animal.

When he refuses to kill it, Ra's decides he's had enough and strikes Danny down then and there. Damian, who was watching all of this go down, disobeys his grandfather for the first time and attempts to resurrect Danny using the Lazarus pits. But Danny's body sinks to the bottom and doesn't return. This devastates Damian and Talia when she gets back.

Meanwhile Danny opens his eyes to find himself in the one place he never wanted to be again, the GIW research facility. The Lazarus pits had responded to the traces of ectoplasm within his body and opened up a portal back to his home dimension. All across the spider verse style you could say. Anyways Danny spends the next decade being experimented on while Damian spends it pretty close to canon albeit with a little more resentment towards Ra's and a little more grief towards the batfam (he feels like he's somehow replacing his little brother by hanging out with them).

Eventually a prison break happens within the GIW facility. Whether because they captured a powerful ghost like Pandora or something or because Clockwork did something, it doesn't matter. What matters is that Danny takes advantage of the chaos to go back through the very portal he got spit out of all those years ago.

Imagine the league's surprise when their youngest heir suddenly comes crawling out of the pits without looking even a day older than when he was first thrown in. The reason for this is because the scientists at the facility thought that Danny was growing in order to simulate being human and gain sympathy. He was always severely punished for this until the remaining ghost part of him eventually adapted to stop his human half from growing. He's now pretty much stuck at the age of 5 or so. Don't worry as he eventually heals from his trauma, he'll start growing again.

Anyways the league, especially Talia is trying to keep it on the downlow that Danny is back. She knows that if Damian finds out, he'll immediately come and try to take back his little brother. Unfortunately for them, they were a little too quiet and Damian gets hella suspicious. So he goes on a solo mission to see what they're up to. He sneaks into Nanda Parbat in the middle of the night and finds a sleeping boy in his baby brother's old room. At first Damian thinks that the league cloned his brother. But when Danny wakes up and stares at him with those big blue eyes he just knows.

So Damian takes Danny with him back home where the batfam is absolutely baffled about where he got this kid from. They're also flabbergasted when Damian speaks to the boy in soft Arabic and has the most gentle and loving expression on his face. This can't be the same demon brat right?

you’re standing at the entrance of the estate, along with some other concubines. four of them. uraume is there with you as well. you’re all awaiting the one person you’re serving; ryomen sukuna.

it’s silent. the women don’t dare to speak up nor do they dare address you in a menacing manner because of uraume’s presence. you’re thankful for them. you really don’t want to have another petty fight with the concubines. not before your little trip to the village nearby.

you’re all accompanying sukuna to meet up with an infamous clan leader. it’s official business, but you’re needed as a sign of your lord’s high status. you’re basically his trophies that he likes to show off.

“interesting choice of clothing,” sukuna finally shows up. you all bow, showing respect. you look up and only then realise that he’s addressing you. his eyes wander over your figure, “who’s chosen that for you?”

you glance down at your kimono. it’s a beautiful red—suiting the color of sukuna’s eyes. your hair is put up in a neat bun, with a matching crimson hairpin that represented who you belong to.

“my lady-in-waiting, my lord,” you say quietly. you cannot see it, yet can easily feel it; the jealous glares from the four women. they’re dressed in the exact same color red, yet their lord hasn’t paid them any mind. not even a glance.

sukuna just hums in response and makes a mental note of your answer. at least his human servants are good for something. he continues to shamelessly check you out.

“lord sukuna,” uraume interrupts carefully. they bow their head once the king of curses looks their way with a stoic expression, “we’ll have to leave now if we wish to make it there at dawn.”

it’s a gentle reminder, but there’s some urgency in their voice. sukuna rolls his eyes—he may have some official business, but he’s not attending that. not before taking care of other more important stuff first. “silence,” he comments to uraume, heavy steps heading your way afterwards.

your eyes meet his. you blink in confusion, eyelashes fluttering. the sight makes sukuna’s hands twitch at his sides. the way you stare up at him with such naïveté is making him want to destroy it.

you’re unsure what sukuna wants from you. as he orders, everyone stays quiet. you watch as his big hands wrap around your body—your waist engulfed by his warm palms. your eyes widen, but before you can question his actions, your lips are sealed by his.

it’s rare that he does this. kissing sukuna is a privilege. one that no one has ever gotten the honour of having, except for you.

you’ve tasted him. you’ve felt his tongue slither against yours. you’ve had his saliva mix with yours. you’ve had him grunting in your mouth.

you’ve had it all.

no one says a thing. even as your feet are lifted from the ground by the sheer strength of sukuna’s grip on your small body. to reach his lips properly, he has to pick you up and hold you against his chest. it’s his favorite thing to do.

“pretty thing,” sukuna coos with a grin. you can feel his lips curling up menacingly against your mouth. it makes you whine. you instantly shut up once you realise that you’re still outside and surrounded by others—who are basically waiting on you two to be done.

you’re embarrassed to the point that you want nothing more than to hide your face against sukuna’s chest. but he will not let you until he’s had his fill. your tongues swirl around each other passionately, followed by him sucking on your bottom lip and biting it with his sharp fangs.

“my lord,” you whine quietly. you know this’ll end up like that one time in the garden. where he shamelessly took you in front of his servants. you’re unsure if it’s a smart thing to do right now. sukuna has an appointment to go to after all.

his mouth doesn’t stop interlocking with yours. his thick fingers tug at the hairs on the back of your neck, causing you to part your lips in surprise. the king of curses takes his chance and explores your warm little mouth. the one that he’s claimed as his the moment you became his concubine.

you tug at his sleeve as a reminder. sukuna grumbles in annoyance, but he knows you’re right; he should let go. his bottom set of eyes dart over to uraume for a second and upon seeing their expressionless yet determined face, he sighs.

all that official business can suck his dick.

sukuna finally detaches his lips from your now wet and swollen ones. you’re breathing hard, trying to catch your breath. you’re flustered to the point you actually bury your face into sukuna’s chiseled chest. you’re sure this’ll be the only talk around the estate for the upcoming week. you’ll become the victim of some more. . . bullying.

the king of curses notices that you don’t let go of him at all. he grins at the sight of you so desperately clinging onto him. he tries to undo the little mess he made of your once neat hair in the meantime.

“what? want me to carry you all the way there, doll?” sukuna raises an eyebrow, teasing you as per usual. you don’t let go of him since you’re still cooling off. you’ve never really kissed outside of the bedroom. it always happens behind closed doors, so this one time took you by surprise.

you shake your head and plop down on your feet again. “no, my apologies, my lord,” you straighten the material of your kimono and don’t even dare to look at the others. uraume would understand, since they’re used to their lord’s antics, but the concubines will cause big trouble once you’re back home.

sukuna nods in acknowledgment. he still got that evil smirk on his face. his thumb brushes the smudged lipstick from the corner of your mouth, cleaning up his mess once again. he’s nice enough to do so today.

“heh.” sukuna lets out an amused chuckle before walking away and ahead of you—the others silently following, as do you. you’re right behind him, on his right side, as he turns his head to yours, “just so y’know, i’m not done with you.”

you know sukuna isn’t. you can easily tell by the way that he didn’t even bother to wipe the lipstick from his own lips. he’s wearing that stain like it’s a medal of sorts. evidence that you’re the only one he’s ever going to show such affection to.

either way; you’re in for one hell of a ride once you’re back from your little business trip.
